This paper presents the findings from the initial phases of the SIF BLADE project, focused on demonstrating the capabilities of an offshore wind power plant (OWPP) for power system restoration (PSR). It provides an overview of PSR, highlighting its challenges and operational requirements, alongside the various scenarios considered in the project. The study includes a steady-state analysis to assess whether the OWPP can meet local network demands for both active and reactive power. Results indicate that the OWPP can operate within an envelope that covers all local power requirements. Additionally, electromagnetic transient (EMT) analysis was conducted to evaluate different percentages of grid-forming (GFM) converter penetration during the energisation process. These analyses aimed to determine compliance with transmission system operator (TSO) requirements. Findings demonstrate that all GFM penetration levels met the necessary TSO standards. Furthermore, a novel small-signal analysis was performed to identify the optimal percentage of GFM converters for enhancing system stability during block loading. The analysis suggests that for top-up scenarios, a GFM penetration between 20% and 40% is optimal, while for anchor scenarios, 40% to 60% GFM penetration enhances stability and robustness. A growing interest in offshore wind energy in the Mediterranean Sea has been recently observed thanks to the potential for scale-up and recent advances in floating technologies and dynamic cables: in the Italian panorama, the offshore wind connection requests to the National Transmission Grid (NTG) reached almost 84 GW at the end of September 2024. Starting from a realistic estimate of the offshore wind power plants (OWPPs) to be realized off the southern coasts in a very long-term scenario, this paper presents a novel optimization procedure for meshed AC offshore network configuration, aiming at minimizing the offshore wind generation curtailment based on the DC optimal power flow approximation, assessing the security condition of the whole onshore and offshore networks. The reactive power compensation aspects are also considered in the optimization procedure: the optimal compensation sizing for export cables and collecting stations is evaluated via the AC optimal power flow (OPF) approach, considering a combined voltage profile and minimum short circuit power constraint for the onshore extra-high voltage (EHV) nodes. The simulation results demonstrate that the obtained meshed network configuration and attendant re-active compensation allow most of the offshore wind generation to be evacuated even in the worst-case scenario, i.e., the N1 network, full offshore wind generation output, and summer line rating, testifying to the relevance of the proposed methodology for real applications. Shadow flicker caused by wind turbine blades passing through sunlight can significantly affect nearby residential buildings, raising environmental and regulatory concerns in wind farm development. The accurate assessment of shadow flicker exposure is critical for compliance and minimizing community impacts. We present a novel method for accurately determining the exposure of shadow flicker from wind turbines on residential buildings, addressing a key regulatory concern in wind farm planning. Current simulation techniques rely on discrete sampling of solar positions, resulting in potential inaccuracies tied to sampling resolution. Our proposed approach models shadow flicker as a continuous function and applies numerical minimization and numerical root finding to compute the duration of exposure. Single-channel seismic (SCS) methods play a crucial role in offshore wind farm assessments, offering rapid and continuous imaging of the subsurface. Conventional SCS methods often fall short in resolution and signal completeness, leading to potential misinterpretations of geological structures. In this study, we propose the application of seismic interferometry as a powerful tool to address these challenges by utilizing multiple reflections that are usually considered as noise. First, we demonstrate the feasibility of using seismic interferometry to approximate the primary wavefield. Then, we evaluate a series of seismic interferometry applied in SCS data, including cross-correlation, deconvolution, and cross-coherence, and determine the most appropriate one for our purpose. Finally, by comparing and analyzing the differences in amplitude, continuity, time–frequency properties, etc., between conventional primary wavefield information and reconstructed primary wavefield information by seismic interferometry, it is proved that incorporating multiples as supplementary information through seismic interferometry significantly enhances data reliability and resolution. The optimization of the symmetry of MTDC systems after a contingency is crucial for the stable and economic operation of the MTDC systems. In this paper, a multi-objective optimal control method for the power flow symmetry of MTDC systems for the large-scale integration of offshore wind farms is proposed. A mirror relationship between the available headroom of DC lines and VSCs and their actual power flow distribution performance is established. A corresponding symmetry index is established for the MTDC network, and the multi-objective optimization problem is converted into a series of single-objective problems by the normal boundary intersection method, and solved by the original dyadic interior point method, so as to obtain the Pareto optimal solution with uniform distribution. The compromise optimal solution is decided according to the entropy weight double-basis point method, which provides decision-making guidance for the operators. The simulation results show that the normal boundary intersection method can solve the multi-objective dynamic optimal control problem of the VSC-HVDC system quickly and efficiently, and improve the symmetry of the power flow in an MTDC network. Offshore wind power construction has seen significant development due to the high density of offshore wind energy and the minimal terrain restrictions for offshore wind farms. However, integrating this energy into the grid remains a challenge. The scientific community is increasingly focusing on hydrogen as a means to enhance the integration of these fluctuating renewable energy sources. This paper reviews the research on renewable energy power generation, water electrolysis for hydrogen production, and large-scale hydrogen storage. By integrating the latest advancements, we propose a system that couples offshore wind power generation, seawater electrolysis (SWE) for hydrogen production, and salt cavern hydrogen storage. This coupling system aims to address practical issues such as the grid integration of offshore wind power and large-scale hydrogen storage. Regarding the application potential of this coupling system, this paper details the advantages of developing renewable energy and hydrogen energy in Jiangsu using this system. While there are still some challenges in the application of this system, it undeniably offers a new pathway for coastal cities to advance renewable energy development and sets a new direction for hydrogen energy progress. In recent decades, wind turbine installations have become a popular option to meet the world's growing demand for energy. Both onshore and offshore wind turbines form pivotal components of the electricity sector. Onshore wind energy is now a mature technology, with significant experience gained by wind farm developers and operators over the last couple of decades. However, as a more recent enterprise, the offshore wind industry still requires significantly more development before the technologies and operations reach maturity. To date, floating platforms at sea have been utilised extensively for the oil and gas industry. While a lot of the expertise and technology is transferable to the floating offshore wind industry, significant development work remains; for example, there is significant work required due to the different device types. Compared to floating oil and gas platforms, floating wind turbine platforms have a higher centre of gravity, which influences their performance and complexity. The successful large-scale development of floating offshore wind farms will require significant expertise and learning from the onshore wind, oil, and gas sectors. There are a wide range of software packages available to predict the operational behaviour of floating offshore wind turbines. In spite of this, it is still extremely difficult to create a fully coupled model of a floating wind turbine that can accurately and comprehensively model the turbine aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, servodynamics, structural dynamics, and mooring dynamics. This paper presents details on various fully coupled and uncoupled software packages and methodologies utilised to simulate floating offshore wind turbine performances. Various kinds of mooring systems, floating wind turbines, analysis methods, and experimental validation methods are comprehensively described. This study investigates the effects of velocity deficits on the performance of wind turbines in multi-row wind farms, focusing on two types of turbines: Gamesa G132 and Gamesa SG8. The analysis examines the impact of turbine spacing on key performance metrics, including Annual Energy Production, energy production losses, and the capacity factor. Two models are used: the classical Jensen model, assuming a constant thrust coefficient ( C T ), and an updated model that incorporates the actual turbine-specific C T (U) characteristics. The results demonstrate that as turbine spacing decreases, the velocity deficit behind the turbines increases, leading to significant reductions in AEP and higher energy losses. These effects are particularly pronounced for spacings of 5D and 3D, raising concerns about the economic feasibility of such wind farms. This study also highlights that the proposed updated Jensen model, which accounts for the specific turbine characteristics, provides results that are closer to real-world observations. This study showed that for a Baltic Sea wind farm location, the capacity factor for the wind farm is in the range of 0.366 to 0.476, depending on the turbine spacing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Freezing of wind turbines causes loss of wind-generated power. Forecasting or prediction of icing on wind turbine blades based on SCADA sensor data allows taking appropriate actions before icing occurs. This paper presents a newly developed deep learning network model named PCTG (Parallel CNN-TCN GRU) for the purpose of high-accuracy and long-term prediction of icing on wind turbine blades. This model combines three networks, the CNN, TCN, and GRU, in order to incorporate both the temporal aspect of SCADA time-series data as well as the dependencies of SCADA variables. The experimentations conducted by using this model and SCADA data from three wind turbines in a wind farm have generated average prediction accuracies of about 97% for prediction horizons of up to 2 days ahead. The developed model is shown to maintain at least 95% prediction accuracy for long prediction horizons of up to 22 days ahead. Long-duration energy storage systems are becoming a vital means for decarbonizing the global economy. However, with floating wind farms being commissioned farther offshore, the need to co-locate energy storage with the energy harnessing units is becoming more essential. This paper presents a transient thermal analysis of the charging process of a subsea open-cycle hydro-pneumatic energy storage system. The proposed system is designed for integration with floating wind turbines in deep water sites. Situating the system subsea presents unique opportunities for integration with offshore wind plants through the exploitation of well-known subsea pipeline technology and the surrounding seawater environment, which acts as a natural heat sink/source. The results obtained from numerical modeling in Python© Version 3.7.4 present the variation in various operating parameters with time. The outcomes reveal that the proposed system is able to achieve a work ratio and an energy storage capacity ratio of up to 0.80 and 0.95, respectively. Furthermore, the proposed open-cycle system is predicted to boost the energy storage density by a factor ranging between 2.00 and 8.10 when compared to the energy storage density of conventional closed-cycle units. The optimization of the efficiency of wind turbine systems is a fundamental task, from the perspective of a growing share of electricity produced from wind. Despite this, and given the complex multivariate dependence of the power of wind turbines on environmental conditions and working parameters, the literature is lacking studies specifically devoted to a careful characterization of wind farm performance. In particular, in the literature, it is overlooked that there are several types of faults which have similar manifestations and that can be defined as static errors. This kind of error manifests as a static bias occurring from a certain time onward, which can affect the anemometer, the absolute or relative pitch of the blades, or the yaw system. Static or systematic errors typically do not cause the functional failure of the wind turbine system, but they deserve attention due to the fact that they cause power production loss throughout the operation time. Based on this, the first objective of the present study is a critical review of the recent papers devoted to three types of wind turbine static errors: anemometer bias, static yaw error, and pitch misalignment. As a result, a comprehensive viewpoint, enhancing the state of the art in the literature, is developed in this study. Given that the use of data collected by Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems has, up to now, been prevailing for the diagnosis of systematic errors compared to the use of further specific sensors, particular attention in the present study is thus devoted to the discussion of the phenomena which can be observable through SCADA data analysis. Based on this, finally, a rigorous work flow is formulated for detecting static errors and discriminating among them through SCADA data analysis. Nevertheless, methods based on additional information sources (like further sensors or meteorological data) are also discussed. An important aspect of this study is that, for each considered type of systematic error, some previously unpublished results based on real-world SCADA data are reported in order to corroborate the proposed framework. Summarizing, then, the present is the first paper which considers and discusses several types of wind turbine static errors in a unified viewpoint, correctly interprets apparently controversial results collected in the literature, and finally provides guidelines for the diagnosis of this kind of error and for the quantification of the performance drop associated with their presence. An enhanced understanding of the mechanisms responsible for wind turbine blade leading-edge erosion (LEE) and advancing technology readiness level (TRL) solutions for monitoring its environmental drivers, reducing LEE, detecting LEE evolution, and mitigating its impact on power production are a high priority for all wind farm owners/operators and wind turbine manufacturers. Identifying and implementing solutions has the potential to continue historical trends toward lower Levelized Cost of Energy (LCoE) from wind turbines by reducing both energy yield losses and operations and maintenance costs associated with LEE. Here, we present results from the first Phenomena Identification and Ranking Tables (PIRT) assessment for wind turbine blade LEE. We document the LEE-relevant phenomena/processes that are deemed by this expert judgment assessment tool to be the highest priorities for research investment within four themes: atmospheric drivers, damage detection and quantification, material response, and aerodynamic implications. The highest priority issues, in terms of importance to LEE but where expert judgment indicates that there is a lack of fundamental knowledge, and/or implementation in measurement, and modeling is incomplete include the accurate quantification of hydrometeor size distribution (HSD) and phase, the translation of water impingement to material loss/stress, the representation of operating conditions within rain erosion testers, the quantification of damage and surface roughness progression through time, and the aerodynamic losses as a function of damage morphology. We discuss and summarize examples of research endeavors that are currently being undertaken and/or could be initiated to reduce uncertainty in the identified high-priority research areas and thus enhance the TRLs of solutions to mitigate/reduce LEE. Early fault detection plays a crucial role in the field of predictive maintenance for wind turbines, yet the comparison of different algorithms poses a difficult task because domain-specific public datasets are scarce. Many comparisons of different approaches either use benchmarks composed of data from many different domains, inaccessible data, or one of the few publicly available datasets that lack detailed information about the faults. Moreover, many publications highlight a couple of case studies where fault detection was successful. With this paper, we publish a high quality dataset that contains data from 36 wind turbines across 3 different wind farms as well as the most detailed fault information of any public wind turbine dataset as far as we know. The new dataset contains 89 years worth of real-world operating data of wind turbines, distributed across 44 labeled time frames for anomalies that led up to faults, as well as 51 time series representing normal behavior. Additionally, the quality of training data is ensured by turbine-status-based labels for each data point. Furthermore, we propose a new scoring method, called CARE (Coverage, Accuracy, Reliability and Earliness), which takes advantage of the information depth that is present in the dataset to identify good early fault detection models for wind turbines. This score considers the anomaly detection performance, the ability to recognize normal behavior properly, and the capability to raise as few false alarms as possible while simultaneously detecting anomalies early. Offshore wind energy plays a crucial role in achieving renewable energy targets, with OWFs facing unique environmental challenges that impact turbine performance and structural demands. This study develops an advanced optimization methodology to identify the most effective layout configurations for offshore wind farms (OWFs) with monopile foundations, focusing on enhancing structural integrity and energy generation efficiency. Using a multi-criteria optimization approach, the effects of wind turbine spacing, angular orientation, and height on energy yield and monopile loading were evaluated. Based on a seven-year dataset from the Ouido site in South Korea, where the mean wind speed is 6.95 m/s at a 150 m hub height, optimized configurations were determined. For average wind conditions, a turbine spacing of 250 m, a hub height of 148 m, and an orientation angle of 36.87° minimized wake losses and distributed structural loads effectively. Under rated wind speeds of 10.59 m/s, a spacing of 282 m, a hub height of 155 m, and an orientation angle of 45° further enhanced performance. These designs reduced wake interference by 25%, decreased monopile fatigue loads by 18%, and lowered the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) by up to 15%. The rapid growth of offshore wind farms (OWFs) as renewable energy sources has heightened concerns about maritime traffic safety and management in high-density traffic zones. These areas, characterized by complex interactions among diverse ship types and spatial constraints, require advanced situational awareness to prevent collisions and ensure efficient operations. Traditional maritime traffic systems often lack the granularity to assess the multifaceted risks around OWFs. Existing research has explored local traffic patterns and collision risks but lacks comprehensive frameworks for evaluating traffic complexity at both micro and macro levels. This study proposes a new complexity assessment model tailored to OWF areas, integrating micro-level ship interactions and macro-level traffic flow conditions to capture a holistic view of traffic dynamics. Using extensive historical AIS data from the Yangtze River Estuary, the model evaluates the impact of the proposed OWF on existing traffic complexity. The results demonstrate that OWFs increase navigational complexity, particularly in route congestion, course adjustments, and encounter rates between ships. Different ship types and sizes were also found to experience varying levels of impact, with larger ships and tankers facing greater challenges. By providing a quantitative framework for assessing traffic complexity, this research advances the field's ability to understand and manage the risks associated with OWFs. Offshore wind is a promising renewable energy generation technology and is arousing great attention in regards to pursuing carbon neutrality targets. Accurately simulating offshore wind generation can help to better optimize its operation and planning. It is also a concern that mechanical resonance is a threat to the wind turbines' lifespan. In this paper, the time-series simulation of offshore wind generation with consideration of resonance zone (RZ) control is investigated. The output model for multiple wind farms with different spatial correlations is proposed. Additionally, the capacity value (CV) of the joint wind farms is also evaluated through a reliability-based model. The case study illustrates the offshore wind power output simulation and CV results under different farm correlation scenarios and RZ control strategies. It is shown that strong spatial correlation brings great synchronicity in wind farms' output and results in a lower CV. The RZ control in wind simulation is validated and proven to have a marginal impact on the total output when multiple wind farms are evaluated together. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Wind farm layout optimization is essential to maximize the energy production of renewable energy systems. A new layout optimization method for offshore wind farms is proposed to minimize power deficits due to the wake effect without limitation on the number of turbines, the shape, or the extension of the concession area. The main engine of the algorithm is a gradient-descent method in which throughout the optimization process, new turbines are progressively and randomly included within the concession area and quickly expand outward, looking for areas with less perturbation, in turn, pushing the previous ones. When the optimization process ends, to avoid local maxima, it enters into a process of suppression of the set of locations that cause the greatest potential (power deficit). Then, a map of potential for the entire area is created, and a greedy algorithm places new turbines to complete the layout with the final number of turbines. The overall process is completed in 25 s. To drastically speed up the search process and the creation of the potential map, a simplification has been validated and added: for turbines affected by multiple wakes, the resulting power has been calculated by using a linear aggregation of power deficits, instead of the usual linear (or quadratic) aggregation of speed deficits. Owing to this type of aggregation, an analogy is established between power deficit and repulsive non-isotropic electrostatic potential energy, which allows using the properties of conservative fields. Thanks to this, the process is 20 times faster than any other layout optimization algorithm found in the revised literature. Simulating wind turbine blade icing quickly is important for wind farms to issue early warnings and effectively deal with the adverse effects of cold weather. However, current numerical simulation methods suffer from high computational costs and lack straightforward acceleration techniques for practical ice prediction. Here, we developed a fast and simple blade icing simulation method via an integrated physical simulation and statistical analysis method. This method consists of two steps: firstly, numerical simulation with CFD, and secondly, table look-up calculations. Over 10,000 sets of wind turbine blade icing simulations based on FENSAP-ICE and an NACA64-A17 wing were conducted to develop this method and analyze the influences of environmental factors on blade icing. The results show that ice thickness generally increases with an increase in wind speed, a decrease in temperature, and an increase in liquid water content (LWC), but there is a nonlinear relationship between them. For example, ice thickness has a linear relationship with the LWC within a certain range but hardly changes with a LWC beyond that range. The validation results show that the fast simulation method established in this paper has good consistency with the original numerical simulation method. It can greatly improve the computational efficiency of icing simulations while retaining the accuracy of numerical simulations. It takes less than 1 s to complete over 1000 sets of icing simulations, which offers potential for the fast prediction of wind turbine blade icing in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this paper is to study the Wind Farm Layout Optimization/expansion problem. This problem is formulated here as a Multi-Objective Optimization Problem considering the total power output and net efficiency of Wind Farms as objectives along with specific constraints. Once formulated, this problem needs to be solved efficiently. For that, a new approach based on a combination of five Multi-Objective Optimization algorithms, which is named the Parallel Collaborative Multi-Objective Optimization Algorithm, is developed and implemented. This technique is checked on seven test cases; for each case, the goal is to find a set of optimal solutions called the Pareto Front, which can be exploited later. The acquired solutions were compared with other approaches and the proposed approach was found to be the better one. Finally, this work concludes that the proposed approach gives, in a single run, a set of optimal solutions from which a designer/planner can select the best layout of a designed Wind Farm using expertise and applying technical and economic constraints. In this study, we investigate a yaw control strategy in a two-turbine wind farm with 3.5 MW turbines, aiming to optimize power management. The wind farm is equipped with a nacelle-mounted multi-plane LiDAR system for wind speed measurements. Using an analytical model and integrating LiDAR and SCADA data, we estimate wake effects and power output. Our results show a 2% power gain achieved through optimal yaw control over a year-long assessment. The wind predominantly blows from the southwest, perpendicular to the turbine alignment. The optimal yaw and power gain depend on wind conditions, with higher turbulence intensity and wind speed leading to reduced gains. The power gain follows a bell curve across the range of wind inflow angles, peaking at 1.7% with a corresponding optimal yaw of 17 degrees at an inflow angle of 12 degrees. Further experiments are recommended to refine the estimates and enhance the performance of wind farms through optimized yaw control strategies, ultimately contributing to the advancement of sustainable energy generation. Siting an offshore wind project is considered a complex planning problem with multiple interrelated objectives and constraints. Hence, compactness and contiguity are indispensable properties in spatial modeling for Renewable Energy Sources (RES) planning processes. The proposed methodology demonstrates the development of a raster-based spatial optimization model for future Offshore Wind Farm (OWF) multi-objective site-prospecting in terms of the simulated Annual Energy Production (AEP), Wind Power Variability (WPV) and the Depth Profile (DP) towards an integer mathematical programming approach. Geographic Information Systems (GIS), statistical modeling, and spatial optimization techniques are fused as a unified framework that allows exploring rigorously and systematically multiple alternatives for OWF planning. The stochastic generation scheme uses a Generalized Hurst-Kolmogorov (GHK) process embedded in a Symmetric-Moving-Average (SMA) model, which is used for the simulation of a wind process, as extracted from the UERRA (MESCAN-SURFEX) reanalysis data. The generated AEP and WPV, along with the bathymetry raster surfaces, are then transferred into the multi-objective spatial optimization algorithm via the Gurobi optimizer. Using a weighted spatial optimization approach, considering and guaranteeing compactness and continuity of the optimal solutions, the final optimal areas (clusters) are extracted for the North and Central Aegean Sea. The optimal OWF clusters, show increased AEP and minimum WPV, particularly across offshore areas from the North-East Aegean (around Lemnos Island) to the Central Aegean Sea (Cyclades Islands). All areas have a Hurst parameter in the range of 0.55–0.63, indicating greater long-term positive autocorrelation in specific areas of the North Aegean Sea. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A comparison and evaluation of the AEP(Annual Energy Production) of a wind farm were conducted in this study with a feasibility study and using the actual operation data from the S wind farm on Jeju Island from January 2020 to December 2022. The free wind speed data were selected from the data measured from a nacelle anemometer, the correlation equation between wind speed and AEP was obtained, and the annual average wind speed for the past 20 years was predicted using the MCP method. As a result, comparing the AEP from the operation data with that estimated in the feasibility study, we found that the AEP was reduced by approximately 2.40% in 2020 and 12.14% in 2021, and increased by 6.76% in 2022. The wind speeds over the 20-year lifetimes of the wind turbines were obtained, and the AEP that could be generated at the S wind farm indicated that it could be used for operation. In the future, the S wind farm will operate at between 25% and 30% availability for the remaining 17 years of operation. If the availability falls below 25%, there will be a need to check the reasons for the deterioration of wind turbine performance and the frequency of failures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Over the past few decades, wind energy has expanded to become a widespread, clean, and sustainable energy source. However, integrating offshore wind energy with the onshore AC grids presents many stability and control challenges that hinder the reliability and resilience of AC grids, particularly during faults. To address this issue, current grid codes require offshore wind farms (OWFs) to remain connected during and after faults. This requirement is challenging because, depending on the fault location and power flow direction, DC link over- or under-voltage can occur, potentially leading to the shutdown of converter stations. Therefore, this necessitates the proper understanding of key technical concepts associated with the integration of OWFs. To help fill the gap, this article performs an in-depth investigation of existing alternating current fault ride through (ACFRT) techniques of modular multilevel converter-based high-voltage direct current (MMC-HVDC) for OWFs. These techniques include the use of AC/DC choppers, flywheel energy storage devices (FESDs), power reduction strategies for OWFs, and energy optimization of the MMC. This article covers both scenarios of onshore and offshore AC faults. Given the importance of wind turbines (WTs) in transforming wind energy into mechanical energy, this article also presents an overview of four WT topologies. In addition, this article explores the advanced converter topologies employed in HVDC systems to transform three-phase AC voltages to DC voltages and vice versa at each terminal of the DC link. Finally, this article explores the key stability and control concepts, such as small signal stability and large disturbance stability, followed by future research trends in the development of converter topologies for HVDC transmission such as hybrid HVDC systems, which combine current source converters (CSCs) and voltage source converters (VSCs) and diode rectifier-based HVDC (DR-HVDC) systems. Offshore wind turbine (WT) wake interference will reduce power generation and increase the fatigue loads of downstream WTs. Wake interference detection based on aeroacoustic noise is believed to solve these challenges in offshore wind farms. However, aeroacoustic noise is closely related to the aerodynamics around WT blades, and the acoustic detection method requires the mastery of noise emission characteristics. In this paper, FAST.Farm, combined with the acoustic model in OpenFAST, is utilized to investigate the acoustic noise emission characteristics from two 3.4 MW-130 WTs with wake interference. Multi-microphone positions were investigated for the optimal reception selection under 8 m/s and 12 m/s wind speeds with a typical offshore atmospheric turbulence intensity of 6%. The numerical simulation results indicate that wake deficit reduces the total noise emission by about 6 dBA in the overall sound pressure level (OASPL) at 8 m/s, while wake turbulence marginally increases it and its fluctuation. There is a mutual influence between these effects, and the wake deficit effect can be 100% compensated for in the OASPL at 12 m/s. Wind farms with type IV wind turbines from various manufacturers are being massively put into operation. These wind turbines comply with the requirements of the grid codes of the countries where they are designed and/or manufactured, but do not factor in the specific features of the distribution networks of other countries to which they are connected. The study at issue involves a comparative analysis of the requirements of grid codes of different countries for the stable operation of wind turbines under standard disturbances. The low voltage ride through (LVRT) characteristic makes it possible to prevent wind turbine shutdowns in case of short-term voltage dips of a given depth and duration. The calculations of transient processes indicate that wind turbines may not meet the requirements of the grid code of a particular country for their stable operation. As a result, standard disturbances will block the reactive current injection and the wind turbine will be switched off. This is often caused by the relay protection devices with a time delay of 1–2 s, which are used in distribution networks and implement the functions of long-range redundancy. Excessive shutdowns of wind turbines lead to emergency rises in the loads for the generating units of conventional power plants, aggravating the post-accident conditions and disconnecting consumers of electricity. This article presents a method for checking the LVRT characteristic settings for compliance with the technical requirements for wind turbines. To prevent wind turbine outages, one should either change the configuration of the LVRT characteristic, upgrade the relay protection devices in the distribution network adjacent to the wind farm, or implement group or individual technical solutions at the wind farm. Accurate ultra-short-term power prediction for wind farms is challenging under rapid wind speed fluctuations, complicating production planning and power balancing. This paper proposes a new method considering spatial and temporal correlations of wind fluctuations among adjacent wind farms. The method first calculates the time difference between power fluctuations based on wind speed, direction, and relative positions, determining the prior information period. The variational Bayesian model is then used to extract implicit relationships between power fluctuations of adjacent wind farms, enabling power prediction during the prior information period. Finally, the non-prior information period is predicted to complete the ultra-short-term power prediction. Using measured data from three wind farms in Fujian Province, compared to other models, the method demonstrates improved accuracy by effectively leveraging the power fluctuation characteristics of adjacent wind farms, and it has a certain amount of generalizability. This study offers a modular isolated grid-connected DC/DC medium-voltage DC aggregation converter to support offshore full DC wind farms' need for lightweight and highly efficient power aggregation and transmission. The converter can simultaneously have a smaller transformer size and lower switching frequency during operation through the dual-voltage stabilization three-loop control strategy and phase-shift modulation strategy, which greatly reduces the space occupied by the converter and lowers the switching loss, Additionally, the use of a two-level structure at a lower switching frequency has lower loss, which effectively reduces the cost of the power device compared with the commonly used three-level converter. The input series output series connection between the converter sub-modules effectively lowers the voltage stress on each power switching device and facilitates expansion into a multi-module structure, expanding its application in high-voltage and large-capacity environments. Assessing market power in the presence of different production technologies such as renewable energies, including wind and solar power, is crucial for electric market analysis and operation. This paper investigates structural market power by incorporating wind farms and solar generation over a short-term period. The study examines the issue of market concentration boundaries to assess structural market power by calculating the minimum and maximum market concentration index values in the day-ahead market. It models the technical specifications of power plants, such as the maximum and minimum production limits, ramp-up and ramp-down rates, and minimum required up and down times. By extracting the spatiotemporal correlation of wind power generation from real data, the uncertainty of renewable power generation is represented through a set of scenarios. The analysis explores the correlation effects of wind farms, solar generation, and wind penetration levels under different ownership structures. Simulation results using a modified PJM five-bus system illustrate the effectiveness of the developed method. Our results indicate that integrating renewable energy can reduce the Herfindahl–Hirschman Index (HHI) by up to 30% as wind penetration levels rise from 0% to 40%, fostering a more competitive market structure. However, the correlation between wind farms also increases market volatility, with the standard deviation of the HHI rising by about 25% during peak load periods. The diode-rectifier unit (DRU)-based high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system offers an economical solution for offshore wind power transmission. However, this approach requires offshore wind farms to establish a strong grid voltage. To meet this requirement while fulfilling the dynamic characteristics of the DRU, this paper proposes an advanced grid-forming (GFM) control strategy for offshore wind turbines connected to DRU-HVDC. The strategy incorporates a P-U controller and a Q- ω controller based on reactive power synchronization. Furthermore, a novel virtual power-based pre-synchronization method and an adaptive virtual impedance technique are integrated into the proposed GFM control to improve system performance during wind turbine (WT) integration and low-voltage ride-through (LVRT) scenarios. The virtual power-based pre-synchronization method reduces voltage spikes during the integration of new wind turbines, while the adaptive virtual impedance technique effectively suppresses fault currents during low-voltage faults, enabling faster recovery. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed GFM control strategy, demonstrating improved start-up and LVRT performance through the pre-synchronization and adaptive virtual impedance methods. Connection parameters are the key factors influencing the responses of modular floating structures; due to the complexity of structural response properties, the assessment and optimization of connection parameters are still vital issues in designing modular floating structures. In the present work, for a novel structural configuration of self-adaptive modular floating wind farms based on existing works from the case of a mobile offshore base, a quantified approach for the assessment of connection parameters is established based on frequency domain numerical analysis taking into account both the economic effects and generalized performance. Based on the quantified assessment, an optimization process is carried out, to obtain a connection parameter combination. From the optimized connection parameters, it can be found that the most appropriate tri-axial stiffness according to present studies is in the magnitude from 1 × 106 to 7 × 107 N/m, and the damping ratio is close to 1.0 for most connection structures. By contrast with feasible uniform connection parameters, the optimization methodology is confirmed to be able to reduce both connection parameters and responses. Then, a time domain approach for the calculation of motions of interconnected modular floating structures taking into account geometry nonlinearity is proposed and obtained in good accordance with the frequency domain results, and the effectiveness of both the frequency domain and time domain is validated. Shallow-water mooring chains of floating offshore wind turbines pose challenges such as nonlinear tension characteristics, high cost and prominent fatigue issues, which seriously hinder the large-scale use of floating wind power. Based on the hydrological and meteorological data of an offshore wind farm in the South China Sea, a sensitivity analysis of the mooring chain fatigue of a semi-submersible floating offshore wind turbine in shallow water was conducted with different environmental loads and mooring chain design parameters. It was found that mooring fatigue is mainly caused by the wave condition within diagonal distribution of the wave dispersion diagram. The mooring chain fatigue calculated using the main monochromatic wave was more conservative than that calculated using the wave scatter diagram with a difference of about 28%. The mooring fatigue calculated using turbulent wind spectrum was greater than that calculated using steady wind. In contrast, waves are the main source of mooring fatigue, and the second-order wave force has an undeniable impact on the mooring fatigue of a semi-submersible floating offshore wind turbine, which accounts for approximately 26% of wave-induced mooring fatigue. In addition, the current-induced mooring fatigue should not be neglected, although its effect is not as large as that caused by the wave or wind loads. An increase in the cross-sectional diameter and the length of a mooring chain, as well as a reasonable clump weight arranged, all contribute to improving the fatigue life of mooring chains in shallow water, which provide useful technical references for the optimization of mooring lines fatigue in shallow-water areas. The southeastern rock base sea area is the most abundant wind resource area, and it is also the mainstream construction site of offshore wind farms (OWFs) in China. The weathered residual soil is the main seabed component in the rock base area, which is the important bearing stratum of the offshore wind turbine foundation. Previous studies on the mechanical properties of seabed materials and bearing characteristics of the pile foundations in OWFs have mainly focused on the submarine soil-based seabed, resulting in a lack of direct reference for the construction of offshore wind power in the rocky seabed. Therefore, the mechanical properties of weathered residual soil and the bearing behaviors of monopile foundations are mainly investigated in this study. Firstly, dynamic triaxial tests are conducted on the weathered residual soil, and experiments analyze insight into the evolution law of the hysteresis curve, cumulative strain, and stiffness attenuation. Then, the horizontal loading behaviors of monopile foundations in residual soil are analyzed by numerical simulations; more critically, the service performances under wind and wave coupling loads are evaluated, which provide a direct theoretical basis for the construction and design of offshore wind turbine foundations in rock base seabeds. A common retrofitting method for wind farms is the replacement of low-power turbines with high-power ones. The determination of the optimal replacement sequence for the purpose of maximizing revenue is a significant challenge. This paper employs a combination of FLORIS and a sequencing algorithm to simulate the power output resulting from the replacement of 1.5 MW small turbines with 5 MW large turbines. This study demonstrates that the optimal strategy for maximizing the overall power output is to replace the turbines in the first column. When the turbines situated in the first column have already undergone replacement or are unable to be replaced due to the characteristics of the terrain, it would be prudent to prioritize those in the final column. In the case of staggered arrangements, priority should be given to diagonal points that do not have turbines situated behind them. In the case of replacing the same number of large wind turbines, the preferred replacement option has a minimal impact on the power output of the existing small wind turbines, with an estimated reduction of 0.67%. In Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG)-based wind farms with Static Var Generators (SVGs), high-frequency resonance will be more like to occur when an unloaded cable is put into operation, which will threaten the stable operation of the wind farm. To address this issue, the influence of power outer loops on the impedance of grid-connected inverters is considered. Based on harmonic linearization, theoretical models for the sequence impedances of DFIGs, Grid-following (GFL) SVGs, and Grid-forming (GFM) SVGs are established. The correctness of the three models is verified by impedance scanning using the frequency sweep method. Through a comparative analysis of these sequence impedances, it is found that unlike the GFM SVG (which exhibits inductive impedance), the GFL SVG exhibits capacitive impedance in the high-frequency band, which leads to negative damping characteristics in the high-frequency band for the wind farm system with the grid-following SVG; thereby, the risk of high-frequency resonance also increases accordingly. On the contrary, GFM control adopted by SVGs can effectively eliminate the negative damping region in the high-frequency band for wind farms to suppress high-frequency resonance. Meanwhile, for grid-forming SVGs, the parameter variations in power synchronous loops have no significant impact on the suppressing effect of high-frequency resonance for wind farms. Finally, an electromagnetic simulation model for a DFIG-based wind farm system with an SVG is established using the StarSim-HIL (hardware-in-the-loop) experiment platform, and the simulation results validate the correctness of the theoretical analysis. Offshore wind farms connected in series, with each wind turbine connected in series with one another, enhance the coupling between them. Significant differences in wind speeds between neighboring DC wind turbines (DCWTs) might result in a substantial disparity in the output voltage, hence posing a risk of overvoltage. Nevertheless, implementing voltage-limiting configurations for DCWTs might lead to the dissipation of wind energy, thereby diminishing the wind farm's capacity to deliver electricity. This work introduces a half-bridge voltage balancing circuit (HVBC) topology as a solution to the issue of DCWT output voltage changes affecting the stable operation of wind farms. The proposed HVBC topology is designed specifically for large-capacity series-connected all-DC wind farms where wind speed variations occur. This design achieves power decoupling for series-connected all-DC wind farms by providing current compensation to the series-connected DCWTs. A control strategy is devised by examining the decoupling principle and operational characteristics of the HVBC. A 60 kV/48 MW tandem-type all-DC wind farm model consisting of six DCWTs in series is built in Matlab/Simulink. The model is then simulated to evaluate its performance under conditions of unequal wind speed, rapid changes in wind speed, and wind turbine failure shutdown. Floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs) are still in the pre-commercial stage and, although different concepts of FOWTs are being developed, cost is a main barrier to commercializing the FOWT system. This article aims to use a shape parameterization technique within a multidisciplinary design analysis and optimization framework to alter the shape of the FOWT platform with the objective of reducing cost. This cost reduction is then implemented in 30 MW and 60 MW floating offshore wind farms (FOWFs) designed based on the static pitch angle constraints (5 degrees, 7 degrees and 10 degrees) used within the optimization framework to estimate the reduction in the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) in comparison to a FOWT platform without any shape alteration–OC3 spar platform design. Key findings in this work show that an optimal shape alteration of the platform design that satisfies the design requirements, objectives and constraints set within the optimization framework contributes to significantly reducing the CAPEX cost and the LCOE in the floating wind farms considered. This is due to the reduction in the required platform mass for hydrostatic stability when the static pitch angle is increased. The FOWF designed with a 10 degree static pitch angle constraint provided the lowest LCOE value, while the FOWF designed with a 5 degree static pitch angle constraint provided the largest LCOE value, barring the FOWT designed with the OC3 dimension, which is considered to have no inclination. To meet growing energy demands, offshore wind turbines (OWTs) with higher energy outputs are being developed, presenting increased challenges for their foundation design. Over the past decade, extensive research on the design optimization of OWT support structures has significantly reduced the anticipated costs of offshore wind farm development. Various design methods have been developed and applied in practice, each with its own advantages and limitations. In this study, 3D finite element (FE) modeling, validated against the measured response of a large-scale test monopile, is used to investigate the lateral load response of monopiles with different geometries and slenderness ratios in smaall and large displacements. The results are compared to the standard p–y method, and specific behavioral and design aspects of large-diameter monopiles, such as the moment contribution ratio from different resisting components and the minimum embedment length criteria, are evaluated and discussed. The results showed that the maximum and minimum differences between the 3D FE modeling and one-dimensional (1D) DNV p–y method are 41% and 11% for large displacements, and 32.5% and 13.3% for small displacements, respectively. As the slenderness ratio increases, the discrepancy between the finite element (FE) modeling results and the 1D DNV p–y method decreases, with an average difference of about 13% across all monopile diameters at an L/D ratio of 10, in both small and large displacements, indicating the reasonable accuracy of the 1D method for slenderness ratios of 10 and above. Among the three minimum embedment length criteria examined, the DNV recommended and vertical-tangent criteria offered shorter embedment lengths. The primary resisting moment across all slenderness ratios comes from the distributed lateral load along the monopile shaft ( M C R p − y ), which increases as the L/D ratio increases. Flywheel energy storage systems (FESSs) are widely used for power regulation in wind farms as they can balance the wind farms' output power and improve the wind power grid connection rate. Due to the complex environment of wind farms, it is costly and time-consuming to repeatedly debug the system on-site. To save research costs and shorten research cycles, a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing system was built to provide a convenient testing environment for the research of FESSs on wind farms. The focus of this study is the construction of mathematical models in the HIL testing system. Firstly, a mathematical model of the FESS main circuit is established using a hierarchical method. Secondly, the principle of the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is analyzed, and a nonlinear dq mathematical model of the PMSM is established by referring to the relationship among d-axis inductance, q-axis inductance, and permanent magnet flux change with respect to the motor's current. Then, the power grid and wind farm test models are established. Finally, the established mathematical models are applied to the HIL testing system. As the capacity of individual offshore wind turbines increases, prolonged downtime (due to maintenance or faults) will result in significant economic losses. This necessitates enhancing the efficiency of vessel operation and maintenance (O&M) to reduce O&M costs. Existing research mostly focuses on planning O&M schemes for individual vessels. However, there exists a research gap in the scientific scheduling for state-of-the-art O&M vessels. To bridge this gap, this paper considers the use of an advanced O&M vessel in the O&M process, taking into account the downtime costs associated with wind turbine maintenance and repair incidents. A mathematical model is constructed with the objective of minimizing overall O&M expenditure. Building upon this formulation, this paper introduces a novel restructuring particle swarm optimization which is tailed with a bespoke encoding and decoding strategy, designed to yield an optimized solution that aligns with the intricate demands of the problem at hand. The simulation results indicate that the proposed method can achieve significant savings of 28.85% in O&M costs. In recent years, offshore wind farms have frequently encountered engineering geological disasters such as seabed liquefaction and scouring. Consequently, in situ monitoring has become essential for the safe siting, construction, and operation of these installations. Current technologies are hampered by limitations in single-parameter monitoring and insufficient probe-penetration depth, hindering comprehensive multi-parameter dynamic monitoring of seabed sediments. To address these challenges, we propose a foldable multi-sensor probe and establish an underwater adaptive continuous penetration system capable of concurrently measuring seabed elevation changes and sediment pore water pressure profiles. The reliability of the equipment design is confirmed through static analysis of the frame structure and sealed cabin. Furthermore, laboratory tests validate the stability and accuracy of the electrical and mechanical sensor measurements. This study investigates the influence of atmospheric stability and ground effects on wind turbine wake recovery, challenging the conventional linear relationship between turbulence intensity and wake expansion coefficient. Through comprehensive field measurements and numerical simulations, we demonstrate that the linear wake expansion assumption is invalid at far-wake locations under high turbulence conditions, primarily due to ground effects. We propose a novel nonlinear wake expansion model that incorporates both atmospheric stability and ground effects by introducing a logarithmic relationship between the wake expansion coefficient and turbulence intensity. Validation results reveal the superior prediction accuracy of the proposed model compared to typical engineering wake models, with root mean square errors of wake wind speed predictions ranging from 0.04 to 0.063. This paper proposes an automated approach to the technology selection of High-Voltage Alternating Current (HVAC) Offshore Substations (OHVS) for the integration of Oil & Gas (O&G) production and Offshore Wind Farms (OWF) based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques. Due to the complex regulatory landscape and project diversity, this is enacted via a cost decision-model which was developed based on Knowledge-Based Systems (KBS) and incorporated into an optioneering software named Transmission Optioneering Model (TOM). Equipped with an interactive dashboard, it uses detailed transmission and cost models, as well as a technological and commercial benchmarking of offshore projects to provide a standardized selection approach to OHVS design. By automating this process, the deployment of a technically sound and cost-effective connection in an interactive sandbox environment is streamlined. The decision-model takes as primary inputs the power rating requirements and the distance of the offshore target site and tests multiple voltage/rating configurations and associated costs. To achieve net zero emissions from ships by 2050 and align with the IMO 2023 GHG strategy, the maritime industry must significantly increase zero-emission vessels by 2030. Transitioning to fully electric ferry lines requires enhanced energy supply through renewable energy sources (RES) for complete GHG mitigation and net-zero emissions. This study presents a GIS-based framework for optimally selecting offshore wind farm locations to meet the energy demands of electric ferry operations along coastal routes. The framework involves two stages: designing feasible zero-emission ferry routes between islands or to the mainland and identifying optimal offshore wind farm sites by evaluating technical, spatial, economic, social, and environmental criteria based on national legislation and the academic literature. The aim is to create a flexible framework to support decision making for establishing sustainable electric ferry operations at a regional level, backed by strategically located offshore wind farms. In the shift toward sustainable energy production, offshore wind power has experienced notable expansion. Several projects to install floating offshore wind farms in European waters, ranging from a few to hundreds of turbines, are currently in the planning stage. The underwater operational sound generated by these floating turbines has the potential to affect marine ecosystems, although the extent of this impact remains underexplored. This study models the sound radiated by three planned floating wind farms in the Strait of Sicily (Italy), an area of significant interest for such developments. These wind farms vary in size (from 250 MW to 2800 MW) and environmental characteristics, including bathymetry and seabed substrates. Propagation losses were modeled in one-third-octave bands using JASCO Applied Sciences' Marine Operations Noise Model, which is based on the parabolic equation method, combined with the BELLHOP beam-tracing model. Two sound speed profiles, corresponding to winter and summer, were applied to simulate seasonal variations in sound propagation. Additionally, sound from an offshore supply ship was incorporated with one of these wind farms to simulate maintenance operations. Results indicate that sound from operating wind farms could reach a broadband sound pressure level (Lp) of 100 dB re 1 µPa as far as 67 km from the wind farm. Nevertheless, this sound level is generally lower than the ambient sound in areas with intense shipping traffic. The findings are discussed in relation to local background sound levels and current guidelines and regulations. The implications for environmental management include the need for comprehensive monitoring and mitigation strategies to protect marine ecosystems from potential acoustic disturbances. Because the aerodynamic efficiency of the downstream turbines is affected by the wake characteristics, the power output will consequently vary depending on the different types of floating wind turbines and floating wind farms used. In this study, the rotor movement, wake characteristics, and corresponding wind farm power output are analyzed using a numerical method for three typical floating wind turbines: the semisubmersible type, spar buoy type, and tension leg platform type with a 5 MW configuration. A fixed-bottom monopile wind turbine is adopted as a benchmark. The simulation results show that of the three floating wind turbines, the rotor position and wake center are most dispersed in the case of the spar buoy type, and its wake also has the lowest impact on downstream wind turbines. Additionally, the power output of the corresponding spar buoy type wind farm is also the highest at different wind speeds, followed by the semisubmersible type, tension leg platform type, and then the fixed-bottom type. This study introduces a novel multi-channel predictive deconvolution method enhanced by Shearlet-based sparse regularization, aimed at improving the accuracy and stability of subsurface seismic imaging, particularly in offshore wind farm site assessments. Traditional multi-channel predictive deconvolution techniques often struggle with noise interference, limiting their effectiveness. By integrating Shearlet transform into the multi-channel predictive framework, our approach leverages its directional and multiscale properties to enhance sparsity and directionality in seismic data representation. Tests on both synthetic and field data demonstrate that our method not only provides more accurate seismic images but also shows significant resilience to noise, compared to conventional methods. These findings suggest that the proposed technique can substantially improve geological feature identification and has great potential for enhancing the efficiency of seabed surveys in marine renewable energy development. Based on field hydro-meteorological observations and sediment sampling data, this study analyzes sediment transport under normal conditions in the Fanshi offshore wind farm project area in Yangjiang, China. It was found that sediment transport in the engineering sea area is relatively stable, and seabed sediments are not easily mobilized. By building a tidal current–sediment mathematical model, the impact of wind farm construction on the erosion and deposition environment in the surrounding sea areas was studied. It was found that areas with significant accumulation are mainly located near the pile foundations of wind turbines. Furthermore, considering ocean dynamics, geological conditions, and wave–current interactions, different local erosion empirical formulas were used to calculate local erosion depth and range. The results show that Han Haiqian's formula and the HEC-18 formula, which consider wave velocity, are very close and more suitable for the actual conditions of this project. As turbine pile diameters increase, local scour depths and ranges also increase. This study preliminarily analyzes the basic scour characteristics of deep-sea wind turbines off the western coast of Guangdong Province, offering important design parameters for the construction of this project, and also providing a systematic and scientific method for studying local scour at turbine pile foundations. Wind turbine components' failure prognosis allows wind farm owners to apply predictive maintenance techniques to their fleets. Determining the health status of a turbine's component typically requires verifying many variables that should be monitored simultaneously. The scope of this study is the selection of the more relevant variables and the generation of a health status indicator (Failure Index) to be considered as a decision criterion in Operation and Maintenance activities. The proposed methodology is based on Gaussian Mixture Copula Models (GMCMs) combined with a smoothing method (Cubic spline smoothing) to define a component's health index based on the previous behavior and relationships between the considered variables. The GMCM allows for determining the component's status in a multivariate environment, providing the selected variables' joint probability and obtaining an easy-to-track univariate health status indicator. When the health of a component is degrading, anomalous behavior becomes apparent in certain Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) signals. By monitoring these SCADA signals using this indicator, the proposed anomaly detection method could capture the deviations from the healthy working state. In recent years, jacket foundations have been increasingly employed in offshore wind farms. Their complex design comprising piles and trusses poses challenges for conducting comprehensive flow field measurements using physical experiments. Consequently, the influence of the flow field on local scour around these foundations remains unclear. Therefore, numerical simulation methods are essential to depict the surrounding flow characteristics. This study utilizes large eddy simulation (LES) turbulence models within OpenFOAM to simulate the flow field around jacket foundations on flat-bed and equilibrium scour bathymetry. A flume experiment was conducted for numerical model establishment and validation. The close agreement between experimental and numerical results indicates that the LES model accurately reflects the flow patterns around the jacket foundation. Time-averaged and instantaneous flow characteristics, average kinetic energy (AKE), turbulence structure, and bed shear stress were analyzed. The results indicate that flow intensity is reduced due to the shielding effect and energy dissipation by the truss structure of the jacket foundation. Furthermore, the AKE of the flow upstream of the rear piles decreases by 18.9% in the flat-bed state and 28.0% in the equilibrium state, indicating more energy dissipation and less scour at the rear piles in the equilibrium state. Constructing offshore wind turbines on artificial islands is considered a viable option, but negative skin friction (NSF) is a significant adverse factor that cannot be ignored. The NSF adversely affects the bearing capacity of pile foundations. Currently, design methods for studying the impact of NSF group effects mainly rely on empirical approaches. Moreover, existing experimental studies do not simulate the NSF experienced by offshore wind turbine pile groups on artificial islands. In order to further explore the impact of pile group effects on NSF experienced by offshore wind turbine pile foundations on artificial islands, this study conducted indoor model tests on single piles and 3 × 3 rectangular pile groups in sandy soil under uniformly distributed loading on surrounding soil. The experiment measured the settlement of piles at various positions within single piles and rectangular pile groups, as well as the settlement of the soil surrounding the piles and the NSF. Through calculations, the experiment determined the neutral points and NSF group effect coefficients for each pile. The results indicate that densely spaced pile groups are advantageous in reducing settlement of the surrounding soil, thereby mitigating the adverse effects of NSF. Due to the influence of pile group effects, different positions within the group experience varying degrees of NSF. Consequently, in practical engineering applications, settlement of both the pile groups and the surrounding soil should be calculated separately. Furthermore, design considerations for the uplift forces and neutral points of piles at different positions within the pile group should adhere to distinct standards. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
