The main idea of this investigation is to introduce an integrated intelligence approach that investigates the chemically reacting flow of non-Newtonian fluid with a backpropagation neural network (LMS-BPNN). The AI-based LMS-BPNN approach is utilized to obtain the optimal solution of an MHD flow of Eyring–Powell over a porous shrinking wedge with a heat source and nonlinear thermal radiation ( R d ). The partial differential equations (PDEs) that define flow problems are transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) through efficient similarity variables. The reference solution is obtained with the bvp4c function by changing parameters as displayed in Scenarios 1–7. The label data are divided into three portions, i.e., 80% for training, 10% for testing, and 10% for validation. The label data are used to obtain the approximate solution using the activation function in LMS-BPNN within the MATLAB built-in command 'nftool'. The consistency and uniformity of LMS-BPNN are supported by fitness curves based on the MSE, correlation index ( R ), regression analysis, and function fit. The best validation performance of LMS-BPNN is obtained at 462, 369, 642, 542, 215, 209, and 286 epochs with MSE values of 8.67 × 10−10, 1.64 × 10−9, 1.03 × 10−9, 302 9.35 × 10−10, 8.56 × 10−10, 1.08 × 10−9, and 6.97 × 10−10, respectively. It is noted that f ′ (η) , θ (η) , and ϕ (η) satisfy the boundary conditions asymptotically for Scenarios 1–7 with LMS-BPNN. The dual solutions for flow performance outcomes ( C f x , N u x , and S h x ) are investigated with LMS-BPNN. It is concluded that when the magnetohydrodynamics increase ( M = 0.01 ,   0.05 ,   0.1 ), then the solution bifurcates at different critical values, i.e., λ c = − 1.06329 , − 1.097 , − 1.17694 . The stability analysis is conducted using an LMS-BPNN approximation, involving the computation of eigenvalues for the flow problem. The deduction drawn is that the upper (first) branch solution remains stable, while the lower branch solution causes a disturbance in the flow and leads to instability. It is observed that the boundary layer thickness for the lower branch (second) solution is greater than the first solution. We have generalized, in the current study, the results of research presented earlier with the aim of obtaining an approximate solution for the creeping, plane-parallel flow of viscoplastic non-Newtonian fluid where the focus is on the study of rivulet fluid flows on an inclined surface. Namely, profiles of velocity of flow have been considered to be given in the same form as previously (i.e., Gaussian-like, non-stationary solutions) but with a novel type of pressure field p. The latter has been chosen for solutions correlated explicitly with the critical maximal non-zero level of stress τs in the shared plane layer of rivulet flow, when it begins to move as viscous flow (therefore, we have considered here the purely non-Newtonian case of viscoplastic flow). Correlating phenomena such as the above stem from the equations of motion of viscoplastic non-Newtonian fluid considered along with the continuity equation. We have obtained a governing sub-system of two partial differential equations of the first order for two functions, p and τs. Background: Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) present a formidable public health concern due to their propensity for localized, anomalous expansion of the abdominal aorta. These insidious dilations, often in their early stages, mask the life-threatening potential for rupture, which carries a grave prognosis. Understanding the hemodynamic intricacies governing AAAs is paramount for predicting aneurysmal growth and the imminent risk of rupture. Objective: Our extensive investigation delves into this complex hemodynamic environment intrinsic to AAAs, utilizing comprehensive numerical analyses of the physiological pulsatile blood flow and realistic boundary conditions to explore the multifaceted dynamics influencing aneurysm rupture risk. Our study introduces novel elements by integrating these parameters into the overall context of aneurysm pathophysiology, thus advancing our understanding of the intricate mechanics governing their evolution and rupture. Methods: Conservation of mass and momentum equations are used to model the blood flow in an AAAs, and these equations are solved using a finite volume-based ANSYS Fluent solver. Resistance pressure outlets following a three-element Windkessel model were imposed at each outlet to accurately model the blood flow and the AAAs' shear stress. Results: Our results uncover elevated blood flow velocities within an aneurysm, suggesting an augmented risk of future rupture due to increased stress in the aneurysm wall. During the systole phase, high wall shear stress (WSS) was observed, typically associated with a lower risk of rupture, while a low oscillatory shear index (OSI) was noted, correlating with a decreased risk of aneurysm expansion. Conversely, during the diastole phase, low WSS and a high OSI were identified, potentially weakening the aneurysm wall, thereby promoting expansion and rupture. Conclusion: Our study underscores the indispensable role of computational fluid dynamic (CFD) techniques in the diagnostic, therapeutic, and monitoring realms of AAAs. In the current landscape of natural gas hydrate extraction, the lifting pump assumes a pivotal role as the essential equipment for conveying subsea fluidized hydrate slurry to the wellhead. The inherent shear-thinning characteristics of natural gas hydrate slurry, compounded by the complex multiphase flow conditions of the "gas-liquid-solid" system, present significant challenges to the operational efficiency and stability of the lifting pump. Consequently, this study adopts a hybrid approach, combining experimental and numerical simulations, to comparatively investigate the impact of non-Newtonian and viscous Newtonian fluids on the hydraulic performance, vortex structure evolution, and induced pressure fluctuations in a multiphase pump. Concurrently, a comparative analysis is conducted on the influence of these two fluid types on the distribution patterns of the "gas-solid" two-phase system. The research findings indicate that the apparent viscosity variations are more pronounced in the diffuser region compared to the impeller region. Under non-Newtonian fluid conditions, two separation vortices emerge at the trailing edge of the diffuser, as opposed to a single separation vortex in the viscous Newtonian fluid, with the latter exhibiting a smaller vortex structure scale. Moreover, the shear-thinning characteristics intensify the interaction between the separated vortex and the mainstream, resulting in an exacerbation of pressure fluctuations. In contrast to the viscous Newtonian fluid, the rotor–stator interaction and shear-thinning characteristics play a predominant role in pressure fluctuations, with shear-thinning attributes giving rise to low-frequency pressure fluctuations. This article is devoted to the study of the existence of trajectory and global attractors in the Kelvin–Voigt fluid model, taking into account memory along the trajectories of fluid motion. For the model under study, the concept of a weak solution on a finite segment and semi-axis is introduced and the existence of their solutions is proved. The necessary exponential estimates for the solutions are established. Then, based on these estimates, the existence of trajectory and global attractors in the problem under study is proved. Drilled shafts are cylindrical, cast-in-place concrete deep foundation elements. During construction, anomalies in drilled shafts can occur due to the kinematics of concrete, flowing radially from the center of the shaft to the concrete cover region at the peripheral edge. This radial component of concrete flow develops veins or creases of poorly cemented or high water-cement ratio material, as the concrete flows around the reinforcement cage of rebars and ties, jeopardizing the shaft integrity. This manuscript presents a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model of the non-Newtonian concrete flow in drilled shaft construction developed using the finite volume method with interface tracking based on the volume of fluid (VOF) method. The non-Newtonian behavior of the concrete is represented via the Carreau constitutive model. The model results are encouraging as the flow obtained from the simulations shows patterns of both horizontal and vertical creases in the concrete cover region, consistent with previously reported field and laboratory experiments. Moreover, the flow exhibits the concrete head differential developed between the inside and the outside of the reinforcement cage, as exhibited in the physical experiments. This head differential induces the radial component of the concrete flow responsible for the creases that develop in the concrete cover region. Results show that the head differential depends on the flowability of the concrete, consistent with field observations. Less viscous concrete tends to reduce the head differential and the formation of creases of poorly cemented material. Due to friction vibration dampers' inability to effectively dampen low loads during high-frequency dewatering, drum washing machines vibrated intensively. In order to address this problem, in this paper, a novel type of low-cost non-Newtonian fluid damper is proposed and investigated based on the non-Newtonian fluid shear thinning properties' effect on vibration suppression during the high-frequency dewatering process of the washing machine. In contrast to other commonly used dampers, the homemade non-Newtonian fluid damper significantly suppresses the growth trend of the apparent elastic coefficient at high frequencies. A systematic investigation of damper structural parameters reveals that smaller gap height, higher piston head number, and more viscous fluid viscosity are adequate for vibration suppression and noise reduction. These results demonstrate that the non-Newtonian fluid damper can produce an excellent vibration-damping effect for the entire washing process of the washing machine, especially for the high-frequency dewatering process. The use of coat-hanger dies is prevalent in the plastic film and sheet extrusion industry. The product quality and the power of the extrusion machine depend on the uniformities of the fluid velocity at the exit and the pressure drop. Die manufacturers face the challenge of producing coat-hanger dies that can extrude materials uniformly and with a minimal pressure drop. Previous studies have analyzed the die outlet's flow homogeneity and pressure drop using various numerical simulations. However, the combination of the scheme programming language together with the Adjoint Method of Optimization has yet to be attempted. The adjoint optimization method has been demonstrated to be beneficial in addressing issues related to shape optimization problems and it may also be beneficial in optimizing the design of dies used in polymer melt extrusion. In this study, the proposed innovations involve incorporating both the Scheme programming language and Adjoint solver to examine and optimize the coat hanger's flow homogeneity and pressure drop. Before optimization, the outlet velocity was almost 10 times higher at the die center than at the edges but after optimization, it became more uniform. The proposed optimized coat-hanger die geometry results in more uniform melt flow as demonstrated by the velocity contour plot and the outlet velocity graph in the die slit area, reducing the deviation value from 0.097 to 0.015. Additionally, the mass flux variance across the die outlet decreased by 71.6% from 0.015069 kg m−2 s−1 to 0.004281 kg m−2 s−1. Electroosmotic flow (EOF) is of utmost significance due to its numerous practical uses in controlling flow at micro/nanoscales. In the present study, the time–periodic EOF of a viscoelastic fluid is statistically analyzed using a short 10:1 constriction microfluidic channel joining two reservoirs on either side. The flow is modeled using the Oldroyd-B (OB) model and the Poisson–Boltzmann model. The EOF of a highly concentrated polyacrylamide (PAA) aqueous solution is investigated under the combined effects of an alternating current (AC) electric field and a direct current (DC) electric field. Power-law degradation is visible in the energy spectra of the velocity fluctuations over a wide frequency range, pointing to the presence of elastic instabilities in the EOF. The energy-spectra curves of the velocity fluctuations under a DC electric field exhibit peaks primarily beneath 20 Hz, with the greatest peak being observed close to 6 Hz. When under both DC and AC electric fields, the energy spectra of the velocity fluctuations exhibit a peak at the same frequency as the AC electric field, and the highest peak is obtained when the frequency of the AC electric field is near 6 Hz. Additionally, the frequency of the AC electric field affects how quickly the viscoelastic EOF flows. Higher flow rates are obtained at relatively low frequencies compared to under the DC electric field, and the greatest flow rate is found close to 6 Hz. The variation of the classical viscous fingering instability is studied numerically in this work. An investigation of the viscous fingering phenomenon of immiscible displacement in the Hele–Shaw cell (HSC), where the displaced fluid is a shear-thinning fluid, was carried out numerically using the volume of fluid (VOF) method by adding a minor depth gradient or altering the geometry of the top plate in the HSC. The findings demonstrate how the presence of depth gradients can change the stability of the interface and offer a chance to regulate and adapt the fingering instability in response to the viscous fingering properties of air driving non-Newtonian fluids under various depth gradients. The relative breadth will shrink under the influence of the depth gradient, and the negative consequences of the gradient will be increasingly noticeable. Specifically, under different power-law indices, we found that with the enhancement of shear-thinning characteristics (lower power-law exponent n) in both positive and negative depth gradients, the fingers that protrude from the viscous fingers become shorter and thicker, resulting in higher displacement efficiency. Additionally, several modifications were performed to the upper plate's design, and the findings revealed that the shape had no effect on the viscous fingering and only had an impact on the longitudinal amplitude. Because of the ease with which oxide films form on its surfaces, stainless steel has strong corrosion resistance and excellent processing performance. Electrochemical machining (ECM) is a flexible process that can create microstructures on stainless steel (SS304); however, with traditional masked ECM, the efficiency and accuracy of microstructure machining are low. Proposed here is the use of a non-Newtonian fluid [polyacrylamide (PAM)] as the electrolyte. To date, there have been few papers on the electrochemical dissolution behavior of stainless-steel micromachining with a non-Newtonian fluid as the electrolyte. The aims of the study reported here were to investigate the electrochemical properties of SS304 with PAM and PAM–NaOH as electrolytes, and to explain their electrochemical corrosion mechanisms. The effects of different electrolytes were compared, and the polarization curves of SS304 in PAM and PAM–NaOH electrolyte solutions with different components were analyzed and compared with that in NaNO3 electrolyte. Then, the effects of the main processing parameters (pulse voltage, frequency, and duty ratio) on the machining performance were investigated in detail. A microhole array was obtained with a good quality comprising an average diameter of 330.11 µm, an average depth of 16.13 µm, and a depth-to-diameter ratio of 0.048. Using PAM to process microstructures on stainless-steel surfaces was shown to be feasible, and experiments indicated that the mixed electrolyte (PAM–NaOH) had not only the physical characteristics of a non-Newtonian fluid but also the advantages of a traditional electrolyte to dissolve processing products, and it effectively improved the processing accuracy of masked ECM for SS304. Due to the significant increase in heavy feedstocks being transported to refineries and the hydrocracking process, the significance of adopting an ebullated bed reactor has been reemphasized in recent years. The predictive modelling of gas hold-up in an ebullated two-phase reactor was performed using 10 machine learning methods based on support vector machine (SVM) and Gaussian process regression (GPR) in this study. In an ebullated bed reactor, the impacts of three features, namely liquid velocity, gas velocity, and recycling ratio, on the gas hold-up were examined. The liquid velocity has the most impact on the predicted gas hold-up, according to the feature significance analysis. The rotational-quadratic, squared-exponential, Matern 5/2, and exponential kernel functions integrated with the GPR models and the linear, quadratic, cubic, fine, medium, and coarse kernel functions integrated with the SVM model performed well during training and testing, with the exception of the fine SVM model, whose R2 is very low. According to the R2 > 0.9 and low RMSE and MAE values, the rotational-quadratic, squared-exponential, and Matern 5/2 GPR models performed the best. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Blood is a shear-thinning non-Newtonian fluid in which the viscosity reduces with the shear rate. When simulating arterial flow, it is well established that the non-Newtonian nature is important in the smallest vessels; however, there is no consistent view as to whether it is required in larger arteries, such as the carotid. Here, we investigate the importance of incorporating a non-Newtonian model when applying a plaque deposition model which is based on near-wall local haemodynamic markers: the time-averaged near wall velocity and the ratio of the oscillatory shear index to the wall shear stress. In both cases the plaque deposition was similar between the Newtonian and non-Newtonian simulations, with the observed differences being no more significant than the differences between the selected markers. More significant differences were observed in the haemodynamic properties in the stenosed region, the most significant being that lower levels of near-wall reverse flow were observed for a non-Newtonian fluid. Multi-layer fabrics are commonly used in ballistics shields with a lower bulletproof class to protect against pistol and revolver bullets. In order to additionally limit the dynamic deflection of the samples, layers reinforced with additional materials, including non-Newtonian fluids compacted by shear, are additionally used. Performing a wide range of tests in each case can be very problematic; therefore, there are many calculation methods that allow, with better or worse results, mapping of the behavior of the material in the case of impact loads. The search for simplified methods is very important in order to simplify the complexity of numerical fabric models while maintaining the accuracy of the results obtained. In this article, multi-layer composites were tested. Two samples were included in the elements subjected to shelling. In the first sample, the outer layers consisted of aramid fabrics in a laminate with a thermoplastic polymer matrix. The middle layer contained a non-Newtonian shear-thickening fluid enclosed in hexagonal (honeycomb) cells. The fluid was produced using polypropylene glycol and colloidal silica powder with a diameter of 14 µm in the proportions of 60/40. The backing plate was made using a 12-layer composite made of Twaron® para-aramid fabrics with a DCPD matrix—not yet used in a wide range of ballistics. Then, numerical simulations were carried out in the Abaqus/Explicit dynamic analysis. The Johnson–Cook constitutive strength model was used to describe the behavior of elastic–plastic materials constituting the elements of the projectiles. For the non-Newtonian fluid, a Up-Us EOS was used. The inner layers of the fabric were treated as an orthotropic material. Complete homogenization of the sample layers was carried out, thanks to which each layer was treated as a homogeneous continuum. As a parameter of fracture mechanics for shield components, the strain criterion was used with the smooth particles hydrodynamics method (SPH). Then, the results of simulations were compared with the results of the ballistic test for both samples placed next to each other, which resulted in the formation of a multi-layer composite in one ballistic test subjected to impact loads during firing with a 9 × 19 mm Parabellum FMJ projectile with an initial velocity of 370 ± 10 m/s. The results of numerical tests are very similar to the ballistic tests, which indicates the correct mapping of the process and the correct conduct of layer homogenization. The applied proportions of the components in the non-Newtonian fluid allowed a reduction in the deflection compared to previous studies. Additionally, the proposal to use a DCPD matrix allowed to obtain a much lower deflection value compared to other materials, which is a novelty in the field of production of ballistic shields. The present work aims to explore the ability to simulate flow patterns and the velocity field in the powder injection molding (PIM) process using the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method. Numerical simulations were performed using the DualSPHysics platform. A feedstock formulated from 17-4 PH stainless steel powder (60 vol. % of powder) and a wax-based binder system was prepared to experimentally obtain its rheological properties that were implemented in DualSPHysics using two different viscosity models. The numerical simulations were calibrated, and then validated with real-scale injections using a laboratory injection press. During the calibration step, the feedstock flow momentum equation in the DualSPHysics code was modified and boundary friction coefficients at different injection rates were adjusted to create a frictional effect. During the validation step, these calibrated conditions were used to simulate the flow behavior into a more complex shape, which was compared with experimental measurements. Using an appropriate boundary friction factor, both the frictional effect of the boundaries and the stability of the numerical solution were taken into account to successfully demonstrate the ability of this meshless SPH method. The difficulty in determining the rheological characteristics of tailings inside reservoirs as well as their intrinsic variability adds uncertainty to tailings dam failures in flood studies. Uncertainty propagation in non-Newtonian hydrodynamic models stands as a great scientific challenge. This article explores the sensibility of tailings dam breach flood mapping to rheological parameters in Bingham and Herschel-Bulkley (H-B) models. The developed approach was based on the probabilistic Latin Hypercube Sampling of rheological parameters. It was automated to propagate uncertainty throughout multiple hydrodynamic simulations using the HEC-RAS v.6.1 software. Rheological parameter ranges and distributions were based on a broad bibliographic review. Bingham models were revealed to be more sensitive than H-B in terms of simulated min-max area values: for Bingham, flood areas, maximum depths, and arrival times varied by 17.9%, 9.3%, and 8.2%, respectively; for H-B, variations were 25.7%, 5.1%, and 3.9%. However, Bingham was less sensitive in terms of hydrodynamically associated probability: high probability ratios were related to a small range of simulated areas in Bingham, while H-B presented great variability. Finally, for each model, the parameters that affect uncertainty the most were identified, reinforcing the importance of determining them properly. Furthermore, the identified parameter ranges for both models should be valuable for defining variable value boundaries for flood sensitivity tests on specific tailings materials for other case studies. This study's aim was to examine the effect of non-Newtonian fluid (NN) shoe and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) shoe on human lower limb biomechanics and muscle activation during running in hot temperatures. Thirty-five men utilizing a rearfoot strike ran 5 km at a self-selected tempo at an average summer temperature of 41.7 ± 1.0 °C and relative humidity of 80.7 ± 3.5%. The kinematics, kinetics, and muscle activation of the right leg were monitored from landing until the pedal was off the ground. A two-way repeated-measures ANOVA was conducted to investigate the main effects of the shoe condition, temperature, and interaction effect. Wearing NN at high temperature resulted in increased hip range of motion (ROM) (p = 0.001). The knee torque increased significantly when wearing EVA and NN shoes after the temperature increased (p = 0.006). When wearing EVA and NN, the ground reaction force (GRF) and loading rate (LR) increased significantly after the temperature increased (p = 0.001; p = 0.009). When wearing NN after running for 5 km at a high temperature, the displacement range of center of pressure (COP) was significantly reduced (p < 0.001), while the EVA was significantly increased (p < 0.001). Neither pair of shoes substantially altered muscle activity. After excluding the factor of fatigue, the increase in temperature not only changed the properties of the material inside the shoe, but also changed the parameters of the biomechanics of the human lower limbs. After the temperature increases, the shoes made of non-Newtonian fluid materials can quickly stabilize under the condition of increased shear stress and reduce the displacement of the human body. This study employs OpenFOAM to analyze the behavior of a single laser-produced cavitation bubble in a Newtonian/non-Newtonian fluid inside a rigid cylinder. This research aimed to numerically calculate the impact of liquid disc microjet resulting from the growth and collapse of the laser-produced bubble to the cylinder wall to take advantage of the cavitation phenomenon in various industrial and medical applications, such as modeling how to remove calcification lesions in coronary arteries. In addition, by introducing the main study cases in which a single bubble with different initial conditions is produced by a laser in the center/off-center of a cylinder with different orientations relative to the horizon, filled with a stationary or moving Newtonian/Non-Newtonian liquid, the general behavior of the bubble in the stages of growth and collapse and the formation of liquid disk microjet and its impact is examined. The study demonstrates that the presence of initial velocity in water affects the amount of microjet impact proportional to the direction of gravity. The gas–liquid mixing phenomenon that occurs in a mixing tank containing a non-Newtonian fluid is an important process in many industrial applications, such as chemical and biochemical processing. The design and optimization of an aerated mixing tank with such characteristics is a challenging task. Most of these challenges are due to the non-Newtonian behavior of the fluid, which can lead to compartmentalization of the mixing tank and the formation of oxygen-segregated zones. These issues become more pronounced at larger scales. Therefore, the primary objective of this study was to identify the mixing dead zones and determine their impact on the overall mixing process in a coaxial mixing system at two different scales. This research focused on the evaluation of the hydrodynamics attained by a coaxial gas–liquid mixing tank through numerical and experimental methods. This study investigates the motion characteristics of soft alginate microrobots in complex fluidic environments utilizing wireless magnetic fields for actuation. The aim is to explore the diverse motion modes that arise due to shear forces in viscoelastic fluids by employing snowman-shaped microrobots. Polyacrylamide (PAA), a water-soluble polymer, is used to create a dynamic environment with non-Newtonian fluid properties. Microrobots are fabricated via an extrusion-based microcentrifugal droplet method, successfully demonstrating the feasibility of both wiggling and tumbling motions. Specifically, the wiggling motion primarily results from the interplay between the viscoelastic fluid environment and the microrobots' non-uniform magnetization. Furthermore, it is discovered that the viscoelasticity properties of the fluid influence the motion behavior of the microrobots, leading to non-uniform behavior in complex environments for microrobot swarms. Through velocity analysis, valuable insights into the relationship between applied magnetic fields and motion characteristics are obtained, facilitating a more realistic understanding of surface locomotion for targeted drug delivery purposes while accounting for swarm dynamics and non-uniform behavior. The rheological behavior of aqueous solutions of polyvinyl alcohol at 4, 6, 8 and 10% by weight has been studied and evaluated at temperatures of 20, 25, 30 and 35 °C, using five non-Newtonian fluid models independent of time: Ferrys, Robertson-Stiff, Williamson, Sisko, and Ellis de Haven. The classical method consists in carrying out regression analysis. Using a comparative procedure of determination coefficients and variances, the model that most appropriately adjusts the experimental data to said model is selected. From the statistical point of view, the Sisko and Robertson-Stiff models present better regression parameters; to better specify the choice of the respective rheological model, a new factor has been proposed in the literature, the viscosity factor (VF), which expresses the relationship between apparent and dynamic viscosity. The analysis of this factor for the five models confirms the greater stability of the Ellis de Haven model in terms of the coefficient of variation of the VF. The value of VF fluctuates between 1 and 2 for all ranges of temperature and concentration experienced for vinyl alcohol solutions. As a consequence of the above, for the choice of the non-Newtonian fluid model associated with the rheology of the aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol, it is necessary to analyze the statistical parameters and the VF factor simultaneously. One of the challenges to the analysis of interactions between soil and piles in lateral spreading is the modeling of the progress generated by excess pore pressure and soil strength and stiffness degradation. In this paper, a pile–soil interaction analysis method that introduces the thixotropic-induced excess pore pressure model (TEPP) to describe the progressive development of the stress–strain rate connection of liquefying soil is proposed. The reliability of the method was verified by comparing the calculated results with that of the shake table test. Then, the parametric analyses of soil–pile interactions were carried out. The results show that the bending moment and horizontal displacement of pile foundations increase with the increase in superficial viscosity and inclination angle of the site. The horizontal dislocation and bending moment of the pile foundation increase with the decrease in loading frequency as a result of the property of amplifying low-frequency loads and filtering high-frequency loads of liquefied soil. Stochastic simulations enable researchers to incorporate uncertainties beyond numerical discretization errors in computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Here, the authors provide examples of stochastic simulations of incompressible flows and numerical solutions for validating these newly emerging stochastic modeling methods. A numerical scheme is constructed for finding solutions to stochastic parabolic equations. The scheme is second-order accurate in time for the constant coefficient of the Wiener process term. The stability analysis of the scheme is also provided. The scheme is applied to the dimensionless heat and mass transfer model of mixed convective non-Newtonian nanofluid flow over oscillatory sheets. Both the deterministic and stochastic energy equations use temperature-dependent thermal conductivity. The stochastic model is more general than the deterministic model. The results are calculated for both flat and oscillatory plates. Casson parameter, mixed convective parameter, thermophoresis, Brownian motion parameter, Prandtl number, Schmidt number, and reaction rate parameter all impact the velocities, temperatures, and concentrations shown in the graphs. Under the influence of the oscillating plate, the results reveal that the concentration profile decreases with increasing Brownian motion parameters and increases with increasing thermophoresis parameters. The behavior of the velocity profile for the deterministic and stochastic models is provided, and contour plots for the stochastic model are also displayed. This article reports on the emission of H2S (hydrogen sulfide) during the excavation of disturbed material covering a former ocean shoreline. Operators of the excavators expressed concerns about the strong odors of H2S, the insensitivity of workplace instruments, and the safety of the work. This situation demanded an immediate and appropriate response. The literature contains no information concerning worker exposure to H2S in these situations. Levels detected by the Jerome 631-X ranged from 1 ppb (part per billion) to 25 ppb in 1-min samples during various activities. Levels decreased to zero when activity ceased. Unpredicted excursions peaking at 2500 ppb superimposed onto background levels immediately followed exposure to material containing H2S. Excursion levels rose abruptly, peaked, and decreased rapidly to the background. Excursions occurred once per day and lasted about 10 min. These emissions share characteristics of shear-thinning, pseudoplastic non-Newtonian fluids. A very conservative estimation of exposure during this work compared to the Threshold Limit Value-Time-Weighted Average of 1 part per million (ppm = 1000 ppb) suggested that this was considerably less than the lowest level of regulatory concern and that work under these conditions can proceed without overexposure to H2S. The 3D cementitious material printing method is an extrusion-based additive manufacturing strategy in which cementitious materials are extruded through a dynamic nozzle system to form filaments. Despite its ability to fabricate structures with high complexity and efficiency, the uneven material distribution during the extrusion and deposition process is often encountered when a radial toolpath is introduced. This limits the design freedom and printing parameters that can be utilized during radial toolpath printing. Here, we report a facile strategy to overcome the existing challenges of cementitious material non-homogeneity by rationally developing new nozzle geometries that passively compensate the differential deposition rate encountered in conventional rectangular nozzles. Using two-phase numerical study, we showed that our strategy has the potential of achieving a homogeneous mass distribution even when the nozzle travel speed is unfavorably high, while filament from a rectangular nozzle remains highly non-homogenous. The material distribution unevenness can be reduced from 1.35 to 1.23 and to 0.98 after adopting trapezoid and gaussian nozzles, indicating improvements of 34.3% and 94.2%, respectively. This work not only outlines the methodology for improving the quality of corner/curved features in 3DCMP, but also introduces a new strategy which can be adopted for other extrusion-based fabrication techniques with high material inertia. This work examined the thermodynamics of the MHD rotating dusty Maxwell water-based nanofluid with suspended dust particles. This study examines the importance of increasing the volume fraction of tiny particles of TiO2 and dust on fluid dynamics. With appropriate similarity transformations, the governing PDEs for both fluid and dusty-phase models are transformed into non-linear linked non-dimensional ODEs. To acquire graphical consequences, the bvp4c technique is implemented in MATLAB scripts. The primary and secondary velocities' magnitude in both phases decreases with an increase in the dust particle volume concentration, Lorentz force, rotating, and Maxwell fluid parameters. We have examined the magnetized stagnation point flow of non-Newtonian fluid towards an inclined cylindrical surface. The mixed convection, thermal radiation, viscous dissipation, heat generation, first-order chemical reaction, and temperature-dependent thermal conductivity are the physical effects being carried for better novelty. Mathematical equations are constructed for four different flow regimes. The shooting method is used to evaluate the heat transfer coefficient at the cylindrical surface with and without heat generation/thermal radiation effects. For better examination, we have constructed artificial neural networking models with the aid of the Levenberg–Marquardt training technique and Purelin and Tan-Sig transfer functions. The Nusselt number strength is greater for fluctuations in the Casson fluid parameter, Prandtl number, heat generation, curvature, and Eckert number when thermal radiations are present. A model of two-phase flow involving non-Newtonian fluid is described to be more reliable to present the fluid that involves industrial applications due to the special characteristics in its behavior. Many models of non-Newtonian fluid were discovered in the last few decades but the model that captured the most attention is the Williamson model. The consideration of the existing particles in the Williamson flow (two-phase Williamson fluid) will make the model more interesting to investigate. Hence, this paper is aimed to explore the flow of two-phase Williamson fluid model in the presence of MHD and thermal radiation circumstances. The obtained ordinary differential equations after the transformations are solved using the Runge-Kutta Fehlberg (RKF45) method. The flow is considered asymmetric since it moves over a vertical stretching sheet with external stimuli. The result displays variation in dust phases compared to the fluid phase under distribution of velocity and temperature. It can be concluded that the fluid–particle interaction (FPI) parameter lessening the motion of fluid and heating characteristics. In addition, the upsurges on skin friction and heat transfer are resulting from the rising FPI. In the study of polymer flooding, researchers usually ignore the genetic stress properties of viscoelastic fluids. In this paper, we investigate the process of viscoelastic fluid flooding the remaining oil in the dead end. This work uses the fractional-order Maxwell in the traditional momentum equation. Furthermore, a semi-analytic solution of the flow control equation for fractional-order viscoelastic fluids is derived, and the oil-repelling process of viscoelastic fluids is simulated by a secondary development of OpenFOAM. The results show that velocity fractional-order derivative α significantly affects polymer solution characteristics, and increasing the elasticity of the fluid can significantly improve the oil repelling efficiency. Compared to the Newtonian fluid flow model, the fractional order derivative a and relaxation time b in the two-parameter instanton equation can accurately characterize the degree of elasticity of the fluid. The smaller the a, the more elastic the fluid is and the higher the oil-repelling efficiency. The larger the b, the less elastic the fluid is and the lower the cancellation efficiency. Moreover, the disturbance of the polymer solution to the dead end is divided into two elastic perturbation areas. Nanoparticles play an essential role in biomedical applications. A most promising area in nanomedicine is drug targeting which is done with the aid of magnetized nanoparticles. In this study, the hemodynamics of hybrid nanofluid flow with gold and copper nanoparticles suspended in it is investigated. This research primarily focuses on magnetic drug delivery which is propagated through a tapered stenosed artery under three situations, including converging, diverging, and non-tapering arteries. To explore the rheological characteristics of blood, a Sutterby fluid, which is a non-Newtonian fluid, is postulated. The energy equation also incorporates the effects of the magnetic field and joule heating, as well as the viscous dissipation function. Lubrication theory provides a mathematical framework for model formulation. The hypothesized modeling is simplified to a set of nonlinear differential equations that are then solved using a perturbation method up to the second order of approximation. Graphs are used to describe the outcomes of different evolving parameters. The Sutterby fluid parameter opposes the flow negligibly, whereas the Hartmann number and thermal Grashof number strengthen the flow field. Copper nanoparticles (in the absence of gold nanoparticles) are observed to deplete the thermal profile substantially more than gold nanoparticles. Nevertheless, the thermal profile is enhanced by the presence of both nanoparticles (hybrid nanofluids). For greater values of the Sutterby fluid parameter, the wall shear stress has been observed to rise considerably, whereas the inverse is true for the Hartmann number and the thermal Grashof number. For propulsion systems using gel fuels, reducing the gel fuel viscosity is essential for achieving better atomization and combustion. In this paper, we investigate the flow and heat transfer in a water-gel with a temperature and shear dependent viscosity. We consider several different channels, mimicking the transport of gelled fuels in propulsion systems, and we also look at corrugation, which is a way of enhancing fluid mixing and thus improving the heat transfer characteristics. The rheological parameters in the constitutive model of the gel are fitted with experimental data. The influence of different corrugation profiles, corrugation configuration parameters and the Reynolds number on the mean apparent viscosity and the pressure drop are investigated. It was found that the flow recirculation formed in the valley of the corrugations enhances the heat transfer and thus the temperature of the main flow. We also noticed an increase in the pressure drop due to the stronger viscous dissipation. Furthermore, it was observed that the sinusoidal corrugation can achieve lower viscosity with a lower pressure drop compared with triangular and trapezoidal corrugations. A shorter wavelength and a deeper wave amplitude of the corrugation seemed to be better for reducing the gel fuel viscosity, while we must consider the adverse consequence of increased pressure drop. A larger Reynolds number was helpful for both lowering the pressure drop and for reducing the viscosity. In addition, compared with a smooth straight pipe, a Y-shape corrugated channel with a constant inlet velocity reduced the mean apparent viscosity by 70.8%, and this value increased to 72.6% by further applying a pulsed inlet velocity, which can greatly enhance the gel fuel atomization and thus improve the combustion efficiency. In this paper, the study of the fully developed flow of a self-similar (fractal) power-law fluid is presented. The rheological way of behaving of the fluid is modeled utilizing the Ostwald–de Waele relationship (covering shear-thinning, Newtonian and shear-thickening fluids). A self-similar (fractal) fluid is depicted as a continuum in a noninteger dimensional space. Involving vector calculus for the instance of a noninteger dimensional space, we determine an analytical solution of the Cauchy equation for the instance of a non-Newtonian self-similar fluid flow in a cylindrical pipe. The plot of the velocity profile obtained shows that the rheological behavior of a non-Newtonian power-law fluid is essentially impacted by its self-similar structure. A self-similar shear thinning fluid and a self-similar Newtonian fluid take on a shear-thickening way of behaving, and a self-similar shear-thickening fluid becomes more shear thickening. The settlement drag coefficient of non-spherical particles (SDCNPs) is a crucial parameter in the field of petroleum engineering. Accurately predicting the SDCNPs in the fluid is essential to the selection and design of proppant and hydraulic design in the fracturing scheme. Although many models for anticipating the SDCNPs have been proposed, none of them can be adopted for non-Newtonian fluid (NNF) and Newtonian fluid (NF). In the investigation, the SDCNPs in NF and NNF are studied experimentally, and the anticipation mode of the settlement drag coefficient of spherical particles (SDCSPs) in different fluids (including Newton, Herschel-Bulkley and power law) is proposed. On this basis, the shape depiction parameter circularity is introduced to develop the SDCNPs. The results exhibit that the predicted values of the SDCNPs model perfectly align with the experimental values, and the average relative errors are 5.70%, 6.24% and 6.72%, respectively. The main aim of this paper is to investigate the solvability of the steady-state flow model for low-concentrated aqueous polymer solutions with a damping term in a bounded domain under the no-slip boundary condition. Mathematically, the model under consideration is a boundary value problem for the system of strongly nonlinear partial differential equations of third order with the zero Dirichlet boundary condition. We propose the concept of a full weak solution (velocity–pressure pair) in the distributions sense. Using the method of introduction of auxiliary viscosity, the acute angle theorem for generalized monotone nonlinear operators, and the Krasnoselskii theorem on the continuity of the superposition operator in Lebesgue spaces, we obtain sufficient conditions for the existence of a full weak solution satisfying some energy inequality. Moreover, it is shown that the obtained solutions of the original problem converge to a solution of the steady-state damped Navier–Stokes system as the relaxation viscosity tends to zero. The main objective of this investigation to examine the momentum and thermal transportation of rotating dusty micropolar fluid flux with suspension of conducting dust particles across the stretched sheet. The novelty of the flow model is the exploration of the significance of boosting the volume concentration of dust particles in fluid dynamics. The governing PDEs of the problem for both phase models are transmuted into nonlinear coupled non-dimensional ODEs by utilizing suitable similarity modifications. The bvp4c technique was utilized in MATLAB script to acquire a graphical representation of the experimental results. To investigate the unsteady flow field generated by magnetorheological (MR) fluid of a high-speed unsteady laminar boundary layer flow in a narrow-long gap of the magnetorheological absorber (MRA), a new unsteady numerical model is proposed. The gap has magnetic-field-activated and inactivated regions, with MR fluid flowing as bi-viscous (non-Newtonian) and Newtonian fluid. The unsteady flow field is described by the unsteady incompressible governing partial differential equation (PDE) and initial-boundary conditions with the moving boundary. The space-time solution domain is discretized using the finite difference method, and the governing PDE is transformed into implicit partial difference equations. The volume flow rate function is constructed to solve numerical solutions of pressure gradient and fluid velocity based on mass conservation, the continuity equation, and the bisection method. The accuracy of unsteady numerical model is validated by the experiment data. The results show that the fluid acceleration profiles along the gap's height are non-uniform distribution. Further, the volume flow rate and excitation current has a significant impact on the dynamic distribution of fluid velocity profiles, and the moving boundary makes the flow field asymmetric about the central plane. Furthermore, as the transition stress increases, the thickness of the pre-yield region in the activated region increases. The recent study was concerned with employing the finite element method for heat and mass transfer of MHD Maxwell nanofluid flow over the stretching sheet under the effects of radiations and chemical reactions. Moreover, the effects of viscous dissipation and porous plate were considered. The mathematical model of the flow was described in the form of a set of partial differential equations (PDEs). Further, these PDEs were transformed into a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) using similarity transformations. Rather than analytical integrations, numerical integration was used to compute integrals obtained by applying the finite element method. The mesh-free analysis and comparison of the finite element method with the finite difference method are also provided to justify the calculated results. The effect of different parameters on velocity, temperature and concentration profile is shown in graphs, and numerical values for physical quantities of interest are also given in a tabular form. In addition, simulations were carried out by employing software that applies the finite element method for solving PDEs. The calculated results are also portrayed in graphs with varying sheet velocities. The results show that the second-order finite difference method is more accurate than the finite element method with linear interpolation polynomial. However, the finite element method requires less number of iterations than the finite difference method in a considered particular case. We had high hopes that this work would act as a roadmap for future researchers entrusted with resolving outstanding challenges in the realm of enclosures utilized in industry and engineering. This paper studied the evolution of NaAlg solution micro-droplet in a coaxial microchannel. The Bird–Carreau model was used to characterize the flow properties of NaAlg solution. As the mass fraction decreased, the flow behavior index n also decreased, indicating that the NaAlg solution was increasingly shear-thinning. There were three stages during the micro-droplet evolution, which were the growth stage, the squeezing stage, and the pinch-off stage. This paper led the flow behavior index n to estimate the effects of rheological property on the breakup dynamics of micro-droplet. We proposed two new prediction models of the minimum neck width wm which were affected by |n| in the squeezing and pinch-off stages for the non-Newtonian fluids. In addition, this paper indicated the rate ratio Qd/Qc was another factor on the wm model in the squeezing stage and the H(λ) of Stokes mechanism was a function governed by |n|2 in the pinch-off stage. This paper investigates the mobility of cilia in a non-uniform tapered channel in the presence of an induced magnetic field and heat transfer. Thermal radiation effects are included in the heat transfer analysis. The Jeffrey model is a simpler linear model that uses time derivatives rather than convected derivatives as the Oldroyd-B model does; it depicts rheology other than Newtonian. The Jeffrey fluid model is used to investigate the rheology of a fluid with cilia motion. The proposed model examines the behavior of physiological fluids passing through non-uniform channels, which is responsible for symmetrical wave propagation and is commonly perceived between the contraction and expansion of concentric muscles. To formulate the mathematical modeling, the lubrication approach is used for momentum, energy, and magnetic field equations. The formulated linear but coupled differential equations have been solved analytically. Graphs for velocity profile, magnetic force function, induced magnetic field, current density, pressure rise, and heat profile are presented to describe the physical mechanisms of significant parameters. It is found that the eccentricity parameter of the cilia equations opposes the velocity and the magnetic force functions. The thermal radiation decreases the temperature profile while it increases for Prandtl and Eckert numbers. In this work, a numerical study of polymer flow behaviors in a lid-driven cavity, which is inspired by the coating process, at a broad range of Oldroyd numbers ( 0 ≤ Od ≤ 50 ), is carried out. The Reynolds number is height-based and kept at Re = 0.001 . The fluid investigated is of Carbopol gel possessing yield stress and shear-thinning properties. To express rheological characteristics, the Herschel–Bulkley model cooperated with Papanastasiou's regularization scheme is utilized. Results show that the polymer flow characteristics, i.e., velocity, viscosity, and vortex distributions, are considerably influenced by viscoplastic behaviors. Additionally, there exist solid-like regions which can be of either moving rigid or static dead types in the flow patterns; they become greater and tend to merge together to construct larger ones when Od increases. Furthermore, various polymer flow aspects in different cavity configurations are discussed and analyzed; the cavity width/aspect ratio and skewed angle are found to have significant impacts on the vortex structures and the formation of solid-like regions. A multiphase extension of the δ-plus-SPH (smoothed particle hydrodynamics) model is developed for modeling non-Newtonian multiphase flow. A modified numerical diffusive term and special shifting treatment near the phase interface are introduced to the original δ-plus-SPH model to improve the accuracy and numerical stability of the weakly incompressible SPH model. The Herschel–Bulkley model is used to describe non-Newtonian fluids. A sub-particle term is added in the momentum equation based on a large eddy simulation. The graphic processing unit (GPU) acceleration technique is applied to increase the computational efficiency. Three test cases including, a static tank, Poiseuille flow, and submarine debris flow, are presented to assess the performance of the new multiphase SPH model. Comparisons with analytical solutions, experimental data, and previous numerical results indicate that the proposed SPH model can capture highly transient incompressible two-phase flows with consistent pressure across the interface. We consider non-Newtonian boundary-layer fluid flow, governed by a power-law Ostwald-de Waele rheology. Boundary-layer flows of non-Newtonian fluids have far-reaching applications, and are very frequently encountered in physical, as well as, engineering and industrial processes. A similarity transformation results in a BVP consisting of an ODE and some boundary conditions. Our aim is to derive highly accurate analytical relationships between the physical and mathematical parameters associated with the BVP and boundary-layer flow problem. Mathematical analyses are employed, where the results are verified at the numerical computational level, illustrating the accuracy of the derived relations. A set of "Crocco variables" is used to transform the problem, and, where appropriate, techniques are used to deal with the resulting singularities in order to establish an efficient computational setting. This paper deals with the MHD peristaltic flow of Williamson fluids through a porous medium between two joint cylinders. The fluid flow was considered to be that of a non-Newtonian fluid, i.e., a Williamson fluid. The inner tube was uniform, while the flexible outer tube had a Sine wave moving down its wall. The analytical solutions for velocity and temperature were obtained as functions (Bessell functions of the first and second types). The solution for velocity profile, temperature, and concentration distribution were obtained as functions of the physical parameters of the problem (Darcy number, magnetic parameter, Grasoff thermal number, Reynolds number, Prantl number, and Schmidt number) along with other physical parameters. The effect of the physical parameters was discussed graphically. A comparison with previously published graphical results was also carried out. The ambition of the present paper is to contribute to practical applications in geographical and physiological fluid dynamics, such as on sandstone, in the human lungs, on beach sand, on limestone, and in the bile duct. Debris-flow modeling is a great challenge due to its complex physical mechanism that remains poorly understood. The present research incorporates the effect of rheological features of the non-Newtonian fluid into the complete quasi-single-phase mixture model, which explicitly accommodates the interactions between flow, non-uniform sediment transport, and bed evolution. The effect of rheological features is estimated by Hersch–Bulkley–Papanastasiou model that can be simplified to Bingham or Newtonian models with specific coefficients. The governing equations are solved by a fully conservative numerical algorithm, using an explicit finite volume discretization with well-balanced slope-limited centered scheme combined with an implicit discretization method. One set of large-scaled U.S. Geological Survey debris-flow experiments is applied to investigate the influence of the non-Newtonian fluid on debris-flow modeling. It is found that the present model closed by Hersch–Bulkley–Papanastasiou model performs better than the models without considering effect of rheological features, which may facilitate the development of quasi-single-phase mixture modeling for debris flows. This study deals with the influence of a wavy interface separating two layers filled with power law fluid and porous media, respectively. The governing equations are solved using the Finite Element Method (FEM) and the numerical model is validated by comparing with experimental findings. The parameters governing the studied configuration are varied as: Rayleigh number (103 ≤ Ra ≤ 106), power law index (0.6 ≤ n ≤ 1.4), Darcy number (10−2 ≤ Da ≤ 10−6), buoyancy ratio (0.1 ≤ N ≤ 10) and Lewis number (1 ≤ Le ≤ 10). It is inferred that the temperature gradient increases by augmenting the Rayleigh number, as the flow is observed from the vertical to horizontal direction in both layers. Constant enhancement in the heat and mass transfer is also observed by enriching the buoyancy effect. In this work, an effective thermal conductivity (ETC) for living tissues, which directly affects the energy transport process, is determined. The fractal scaling and Monte Carlo methods are used to describe the tissue as a porous medium, and blood is considered a Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid for comparative and analytical purposes. The effect of the principal variables—such as fractal dimensions D T and D f , porosity, and the power-law index, n—on the temperature profiles as a function of time and tissue depth, for one- and three-layer tissues, besides temperature distribution, are presented. ETC was improved by considering high tissue porosity, low tortuosity, and shear-thinning fluids. In three-layer tissues with different porosities, perfusion with a non-Newtonian fluid contributes to the understanding of the heat transfer process in some parts of the human body. Widely used for modeling biological fluids flows--in particular, blood vessel flows--a Casson flow is studied in a symmetric channel for which the aspect ratio enables one to use the lubrication approximation. Two flow driving conditions are prescribed: inlet-outlet pressure difference and peristaltic oscillations of the vessel walls. In both cases, starting from mass and momentum balance and using lubrication approximation, we investigate the conditions to be imposed on the driving mechanisms so that the inner plug does not come in touch with the walls. Featured Application: Manufacturing Polyurethane Foams, Chemical Engineering. In the manufacturing process of hard-board poly-urethane foams, the uniformity is a very important issue for the raw compound of the liquid poly-urethane system flow for the quality control of such products. One of the universal methods to generate more uniform flow is that some obstacles are located inside the diffuser at the end of injector. For the regime of non-Newtonian laminar flow, better flow uniformity can be achieved with the enhancement of mixing in the wake after the resistive obstacles. In this research, the parametric study is made for the gap interval between adjacent obstacle components as well as the cross-sectional shape with a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique. The flow fields around circular and elliptic cylinders are visualized for flow velocity and vorticity with the comparison of root-mean-square (RMS) error for the deviation of velocity at the outlet as a lumped parameter to estimate flow uniformity and mixing. When the blockage ratio is fixed 0.3 for the pipe of Reynolds number 58.5 based on its diameter, eliminating the effect of wall boundary ratio with the classical Blasius velocity profile, the RMS error is reduced 77% to 92% from the baseline case in the case of 60%-diameter gaps for the figure of circles and 2:1 longitudinal ellipse, respectively. The flow is visualized around obstacle components with vorticity as well as flow velocity where the three-dimensional components of vorticity vector are also elucidated in physics for the evolution of complex multi-dimensional flow wake. Enhancing heat transfer rates in heat exchangers is essential in many applications, such as in the food industry. Most fluids used in the food industry are non-Newtonian, whose viscosity is not uniform, and depends on the shear rate and temperature gradient. This is important in the selection of equipment and type of processing. The aim of this work was to numerically simulate, with a non-Newtonian fluid in laminar regime, the heat transfer process in a tube with a curved elbow. The numerical model was validated with published correlations using water as heat transfer fluid. A commercially available fruit juice was used as a non-Newtonian fluid. Its rheological properties were measured using a Modular Compact Rheometer, as well as the activation energy. The difference between outlet temperature and inlet temperature was higher for the laminar simulation (approximately 4 °C) than for the turbulent one (approximately 0.7 °C). The highest dynamic viscosity values were found at the centre of the pipe (between 0.05 and 0.09 Pa·s), with the lowest values at the wall (0.0076 Pa·s). This behaviour is explained by the pseudoplastic condition of the fruit juice. The activation energy did not yield high values, showing a moderate viscosity variation with the temperature change.
