With the expansion of user scale in LEO satellite networks, unbalanced regional load and bursty network traffic lead to the problem of load disequilibrium. A distributed hops-based back-pressure (DHBP) routing is proposed. DHBP theoretically derives a fast solution for the minimum end-to-end propagation hops between satellite nodes in inclined-orbit LEO satellite networks; hence, link weights are determined based on remaining hops between the next hop and destination satellites. In order to control the number of available retransmission paths, the permitted propagation region is restricted to a rectangular region consisting of source-destination nodes to reduce the propagation cost. Finally, DHBP is designed distributedly, to realize a dynamic selection of the shortest link with low congestion and balanced traffic distribution without obtaining the whole network topology. Network simulation results demonstrate that DHBP has higher throughput and lower delay under high load conditions compared with state-of-the-art routing protocols. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A novel non-centralised dispatch strategy is presented for wake redirection to optimise large-scale offshore wind farms operation, creating a balanced control between power production and fatigue thrust loads evenly among the wind turbines. This approach is founded on a graph sparsification partitioning strategy that takes into account the impact of wake propagation. More specifically, the breadth-first search algorithm is employed to identify the subgraph based on the connectivity of the wake direction graph, while the PageRank centrality computation algorithm is utilised to determine and rank scores for the shared turbines' affiliation with the subgraphs. By doing so, the wind farm is divided into smaller subsets of partitioned turbines, resulting in decoupling. The objective function is then formulated by incorporating penalty terms, specifically the standard deviation of fatigue thrust loads, into the maximum power equation. Meanwhile, the non-centralisation sequential quadratic programming optimisation algorithm is subsequently employed within each partition to determine the control actions while considering the objectives of the respective controllers. Finally, the simulation results of case studies prove to reduce computational costs and improve wind farm power production by balancing accumulated fatigue thrust loads over the operational lifetime as much as possible. Cloud-based services are growing more rapidly than ever, and so does the management challenge on their providers' side. Cloud-based datacenter networks are built with nodes of huge processing power, connected by high bandwidth capacities to carry their interior traffic requirements. However, such cloud networks still have limits that are imposed not necessarily by their physical components, but by the schemes of resource management being deployed. Traditionally, for an institute to provide services, it needs to have its own datacenter facility that interconnects its servers through a topology that matches its desired administrative policies and scaling objectives. With the theme of cloud-based IaaS, such datacenter topologies can be created virtually over the cloud. Nowadays, a significant part of those institutes who provide us with our daily services have their infrastructures hosted over cloud ones. Therefore, resources of such cloud networks need to be efficiently utilized, in order to keep their performance and hosting prices competitive. A typical datacenter network mainly consists of server nodes and network links. Besides the resources of the server nodes, the network bandwidth resources are considered a crucial key determinant for the whole datacenter performance. Indeed, a server without sufficient bandwidth capacities is almost useless. Proposals in the literature present schemes for resource utilization on either side of the problem at a time: the nodes or the links. Working in isolation can never deliver efficient mapping solutions. ABLA is an Application-Based, and Load balancing Approach for adaptive mapping proposal. ABLA's methodology tackles both sides of the datacenter, the nodes and links. It starts by (1) breaking down the node's resource requirement for the requested applications to be hosted over the virtual server machines besides (2) reading the topological connectivity and bandwidth requirements for each virtual node to all other nodes in the virtual datacenter topology. Compared to other models in the literature, the simulation results show that our proposed ABLA model provides for complete mapping services via load-balanced hosting networks. This study investigated the problem of controlling a three-phase three-wire photovoltaic (PV)-type distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM). In order to model, simulate, and control the system, the MATLAB/SIMULINK tool was used. Different controllers were applied to create switching pulses for the IGBT-based voltage source converter (VSC) for the mitigation of various power quality issues in the PV-DSTATCOM. Traditional control algorithms guarantee faultless execution or outcomes only for a restricted range of operating situations due to their present design. Alternative regulators depend on more resilient neural network and fuzzy logic algorithms that may be programmed to operate in a variety of settings. In this study, an adaptive linear neural network (ADALINE) was proposed to solve the control problem more efficiently than the existing methods. The ADALINE method was simulated and the results were compared with the results of the synchronous reference frame theory (SRFT), improved linear sinusoidal tracer (ILST), and backpropagation (BP) algorithms. The simulation results showed that the proposed ADALINE method outperformed the compared algorithms. Kubernetes (K8s) is expected to be a key container orchestration tool for edge computing infrastructures owing to its various features for supporting container deployment and dynamic resource management. For example, its horizontal pod autoscaling feature provides service availability and scalability by increasing the number of replicas. kube-proxy provides traffic load-balancing between replicas by distributing client requests equally to all pods (replicas) of an application in a K8s cluster. However, this approach can result in long delays when requests are forwarded to remote workers, especially in edge computing environments where worker nodes are geographically dispersed. Moreover, if the receiving worker is overloaded, the request-processing delay can increase significantly. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes an enhanced load balancer called resource adaptive proxy (RAP). RAP periodically monitors the resource status of each pod and the network status among worker nodes to aid in load-balancing decisions. Furthermore, it preferentially handles requests locally to the maximum extent possible. If the local worker node is overloaded, RAP forwards its requests to the best node in the cluster while considering resource availability. In this research, we investigate the influence of a load-balancing strategy and parametrization on the speed-up of discrete element method simulations using Lethe-DEM. Lethe-DEM is an open-source DEM code which uses a cell-based load-balancing strategy. We compare the computational performance of different cell-weighing strategies based on the number of particles per cell (linear and quadratic). We observe two minimums for particle to cell weights (at 3, 40 for quadratic, and 15, 50 for linear) in both linear and quadratic strategies. The first and second minimums are attributed to the suitable distribution of cell-based and particle-based functions, respectively. We use four benchmark simulations (packing, rotating drum, silo, and V blender) to investigate the computational performances of different load-balancing schemes (namely, single-step, frequent and dynamic). These benchmarks are chosen to demonstrate different scenarios that may occur in a DEM simulation. In a large-scale rotating drum simulation, which shows the systems in which particles occupy a constant region after reaching steady-state, single-step load-balancing shows the best performance. In a silo and V blender, where particles move in one direction or have a reciprocating motion, frequent and dynamic schemes are preferred. We propose an automatic load-balancing scheme (dynamic) that finds the best load-balancing steps according to the imbalance of computational load between the processes. Furthermore, we show the high computational performance of Lethe-DEM in the simulation of the packing of 10 8 particles on 4800 processes. In a cellular communication system, deploying a relay station (RS) is an effective alternative to installing a new base station (BS). A dual-hop network enhances the throughput of mobile stations (MSs) located in shadow areas or at cell edges by installing RSs between BSs and MSs. Because additional radio resources should be allocated to the wireless link between BS and RS, a frame to be transmitted from BS is divided into an access zone (AZ) and a relay zone (RZ). BS and RS communicate with each other through the RZ, and they communicate with their registered MSs through an AZ. However, if too many MSs are registered with a certain BS or RS, MS overloading may cause performance degradation. To prevent such performance degradation, it is very important to find the proper positions for RSs to be deployed. In this paper, we propose a method for finding the sub-optimal RS deployment location for the purpose of load-balancing and throughput enhancement. The advantage of the proposed method is the efficiency in find the sub-optimal location of RSs and its reliable tradeoff between load-balancing throughput enhancement. Since the proposed scheme finds the proper position by adjusting the distance and angle of RSs, its computational complexity lower than other global optimization approach or learning-based approach. In addition, the proposed scheme is constituted with the two stages of load-balancing and throughput enhancement. These procedures result in the appropriate tradeoff between load-balancing and throughput enhancement. The simulation results support these advancements of the proposed scheme. The participating nodes in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are usually resource-constrained in terms of energy consumption, storage capacity, computational capability, and communication range. Energy is one of the major constraints which requires an efficient mechanism that takes into account the energy consumption of nodes to prolong the network lifetime. Particularly in the large scale heterogeneous WSNs, this challenge becomes more critical due to high data collection rate and increased number of transmissions. To this end, clustering is one of the most popular mechanisms which is being used to minimize the energy consumption of nodes and prolong the lifetime of the network. In this paper, therefore, we propose a robust clustering mechanism for energy optimization in heterogeneous WSNs. In the proposed scheme, nodes declare themselves as cluster head (CH) based on available resources such as residual energy, available storage and computational capability. The proposed scheme employs the multi criteria decision making technique named as Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) which allows the child nodes to select the optimal CH among several potential CH candidates. Moreover, we also propose mechanisms such as CH-acquaintanceship and CH-friendship in order to prolong the network lifetime. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme minimizes the control overhead, reduces the power consumption and enhances overall lifetime of the network by comparing with the most recent and relevant proposed protocol for WSNs. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been used for environmental monitoring and reporting for many decades. Energy consumption is a significant research topic because wireless sensor nodes are battery-operated to be highly energy-constrained. Several strategies have been introduced in routing and MAC (Medium Access Control) layer protocols to facilitate energy saving. At the routing layer, an energy-efficient routing protocol, known as opportunistic routing (OR), has been designed to improve efficiency. OR achieves energy efficiency via load-balancing, which forwards packets along multiple routes over WSNs. At the MAC layer, an energy-efficient MAC protocol known as the asynchronous duty-cycled MAC (ADCM) protocol achieves energy saving by turning on and off a sensor node's transmitter and receiver to eliminate unnecessary energy wastage. These protocols each have their own advantages and disadvantages. OR achieves energy efficiency at the routing layer but it raises an issue at the MAC layer. ADCM achieves energy efficiency at the MAC layer, but it hinders the packet forwarding efficiency of the OR. To attain better energy efficiency, a combination of these two ideas led to the development of OR with asynchronous duty-cycled MAC (OR-ADCM). However, even with better energy efficiency, limitations still exist in combining load-balancing and duty-cycling due to conflicts in the inherent properties of OR and ADCM. In this paper, we present a survey of the evolution of OR-ADCM over WSNs to help the reader better understand and appreciate the details of this tradeoff, which we hope will lead to the development of better protocol designs.
