To cope with harsh working conditions, new corrosion-resistant coated steel wires with higher tensile strength have been developed. This study investigates the corrosion characteristics of a new zinc–aluminum alloy-coated steel wire under stress conditions. The particulate corrosion products generated by the oxidation of the coating in the initial stage of corrosion are converted into layer-structured corrosion products at the early stage of corrosion. Moreover, high-stress conditions have a significant influence on the critical conversion time from the coating corrosion stage to the iron matrix corrosion stage. Thus, the uniform corrosion depth (i.e., the mass loss rate) could be fitted with a continuous power function model rather than the previously used two-stage model owing to an ambiguous moment of conversion under stress conditions. The pitting corrosion depth could be fitted with a lognormal distribution in this study. The probability distributions for the aspect ratios of corrosion pits under different stress conditions tended to be consistent. Finally, the block's maximum pitting factor followed a Gumbel distribution with a scale parameter that changed linearly with the stress level and a location parameter related to the square of the stress level. The effect of tempering temperature on the microstructure and intergranular corrosion property of 2205 duplex stainless steel (DSS2205) was determined using a boiling acid intergranular corrosion test (boiling 65% nitric acid and 50% sulfuric acid–ferric sulfate), an optical microscope, a transmission electron microscope, and a double-loop electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation (DL-EPR) test. The results show that the ferrite content of the DSS2205 is about 50% in a specimen close to a solid solution state (1050 °C for 1 h, then water-quenched) when tempered at 675 °C–725 °C for 1 h. As the tempering temperature rises to 750 °C–800 °C for 1 h, the ferrite content drops gradually from 49% to 35%. M23C6, FeCr (σ phase), and Cr2N phases are precipitated when the specimen is tempered at 675°C–800 °C for 1 h. When the tempering temperature rises to 750 °C–800 °C for 1 h, the content and size of σ phase increase significantly. In the boiling acid intergranular corrosion test, when the specimen is tempered at 675 °C–725 °C for 1 h, the corrosion rate is higher than when it is tempered at 750 °C–800 °C for 1 h. In the DL-EPR test, when the specimen is tempered at 675 °C–800 °C for 1 h, the intergranular corrosion sensitivity rises gradually. External polarization is added during the DL-EPR test, and the test principle is different from that of the boiling acid intergranular corrosion test, resulting in a different sensitivity to intergranular corrosion compared to boiling acid intergranular corrosion. Aquaculture farms cultivating Saccharina japonica are highly active in Wando, Korea, and Rongcheng, China. However, the yield of S. japonica significantly declined in the Rongcheng region in 2022 compared to previous records, whereas that in Wando remained at a normal level, presumably due to the presence of a pathogenic microbiome. We used environmental DNA (eDNA) metagenomic analysis to compare the microbial compositions of seawater from aquaculture farms in Wando and Rongcheng. Seawater samples were collected from one Korean site in Wando (WA) and two Chinese sites in Ailian Bay (AB) and Lidao Bay (LB). Metagenomic analysis focusing on the microbial 16S rRNA identified 38 phyla and 58 families of microbiomes in all regions. Potentially pathogenic bacterial groups associated with S. japonica in AB and LB were more abundant than in WA, suggesting their potential influence on mortality and the decline in the harvest yield of S. japonica. The microbial composition of WA was distinguished from those of the other two sites, which clustered together with higher similarity. Since the S. japonica aquaculture industry is important for both countries, this comparative eDNA monitoring is a valuable initiation towards the next step of problem-solving practices in coastal management in these two aquaculture systems. The role of Pleckstrin homology-like domain family B member 2 (PHLDB2) in the regulation of cell migration has been extensively studied. However, the exploration of PHLDB2 in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is still limited in terms of expression, function, and therapeutic potential. In this study, we discovered an upregulation of PHLDB2 expression in HNSCC tissues which was correlated with a negative prognosis in patients with HNSCC. Additionally, we determined that a high level of expression of PHLDB2 is crucial for maintaining cell migration through the regulation of the epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT). Furthermore, we demonstrated that the ablation of PHLDB2 in tumor cells inhibited tumorigenicity in a C3H syngeneic tumor-bearing mouse model. Mechanistically, PHLDB2 was found to be involved in the regulation of T cell anti-tumor immunity, primarily by enhancing the activation and infiltration of CD8+ T cells. Urbanization in China has led to a significant increase in surface water pollution, posing a threat to the health and safety of residents and hindering sustainable economic development. Individual traditional methods have been used to purify polluted water, including the use of bamboo-derived activated charcoal, microbial material, and zero-valent iron. However, these methods have been found to have certain limitations. This study investigates the effects of an activated charcoal material combined with beneficial microbes and chelated nano-iron in removing nitrates. The experiments were conducted at various scales, including a bench-scale study, and studies of a small river, sewage plant tailwater, and artificially constructed wetlands. The microbes used included Bacillus spp., Lactobacillus spp., and yeasts. During the fermentation process, nano-scale iron powder was added, resulting in the formation of bivalent iron ions under anaerobic conditions. These ions were subsequently chelated by organic acids. Bamboo-derived activated charcoal was then soaked in the fermented liquid, allowing the microbes, chelated iron ions, and organic acids to infiltrate the pores of the activated charcoal. This activated charcoal material, containing microbes and chelated iron ions, demonstrated effective nitrate removal in laboratory experiments and sewage plant tailwater treatment, and water purification in wetlands and rivers. It is important to note that this research solely focused on the removal of nitrates, and further studies are required to confirm its effectiveness in other aspects of water purification. During an investigation of the macrofungal flora in the Huanglong Mountains of the Loess Plateau, northwest China, a unique gomphoid fungus was discovered and collected. After morphological identification and molecular phylogenetic analyses, a new genus named Luteodorsum and its type species, L. huanglongense, were proposed. Phylogenetic analyses were conducted using datasets of nuclear ribosomal DNA 28S large subunit (LSU), mitochondrial (mt) adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) subunit 6 (atp6), and mt small-subunit rDNA (mtSSU). The results confirmed that L. huanglongense forms an independent clade within Gomphales, with full maximum likelihood bootstrap support (MLBS), maximum parsimony bootstrap support (MPBS), and Bayesian posterior probability (BPP). L. huanglongense is characterized by its sandy-brown, orange-brown, or coffee-brown color; clavate to infundibuliform shape; wrinkled and ridged hymenophore; ellipsoid to obovoid warted basidiospores; cylindrical to clavate flexuous pleurocystidia; and crystal basal mycelium. Overall, this study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the diversity and evolution of Gomphales and provides valuable insights into the unique fungal flora found in the Huanglong Mountains. Deep network models rely on sufficient training samples to perform reasonably well, which has inevitably constrained their application in classification of hyperspectral images (HSIs) due to the limited availability of labeled data. To tackle this particular challenge, we propose a hybrid relation network, H-RNet, by combining three-dimensional (3-D) convolution neural networks (CNN) and two-dimensional (2-D) CNN to extract the spectral–spatial features whilst reducing the complexity of the network. In an end-to-end relation learning module, the sample pairing approach can effectively alleviate the problem of few labeled samples and learn correlations between samples more accurately for more effective classification. Experimental results on three publicly available datasets have fully demonstrated the superior performance of the proposed model in comparison to a few state-of-the-art methods. Species of Pseudoplagiostomataceae were mainly introduced as endophytes, plant pathogens, or saprobes from various hosts. Based on multi-locus phylogenies from the internal transcribed spacers (ITS), the large subunit of nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (LSU), partial DNA-directed RNA polymerase II subunit two gene (rpb2), the partial translation elongation factor 1-alpha gene (tef1α), and the partial beta-tubulin gene (tub2), in conjunction with morphological characteristics, we describe three new species, viz. Pseudoplagiostoma alsophilae sp. nov., P. bambusae sp. nov., and P. machili sp. nov. Molecular clock analyses on the divergence times of Pseudoplagiostomataceae indicated that the conjoint ancestor of Pseudoplagiostomataceae and Apoharknessiaceae occurred in the Cretaceous period. and had a mean stem age of 104.1 Mya (95% HPD of 86.0–129.0 Mya, 1.0 PP), and most species emerged in the Paleogene and Neogene period. Historical biogeography was reconstructed for Pseudoplagiostomataceae by the RASP software with a S–DEC model, and suggested that Asia, specifically Southeast Asia, was probably the ancestral area. Alginate lyases (ALyases) have been widely applied in enzymatically degrading alginate for the preparation of alginate oligosaccharides (AOS), which possess a range of excellent physiological benefits including immunoregulatory, antivirus, and antidiabetic properties. Among the characterized ALyases, the number of ALyases with strict substrate specificity which possess potential in directed preparation of AOS is quite small. ALyases of polysaccharides lyase (PL) 5 family have been reported to perform poly-β-D-mannuronic acid (Poly-M) substrate specificity. However, there have been fewer studies with a comprehensive characterization and comparison of PL 5 family ALyases. In this study, a putative PL 5 family ALyase PMD was cloned from Pseudomonas mendocina and expressed in Escherichia coli. The novel ALyase presented maximum activity at 30 °C and pH 7.0. PMD displayed pH stability properties under the range of pH 5 to pH 9, which retained more than 80% relative activity, even when incubated for 48 h. Product analysis indicated that PMD might be an endolytic ALyase with strict Poly M substrate specificity and yield disaccharide and trisaccharide as main products. In addition, residues K58, R66, Y248, and R344 were proposed to be the potential key residues for catalysis via site-directed mutation. Detailed characterization of PMD and comprehensive comparisons could supply some different information about properties of PL 5 ALyases which might be helpful for its application in the directed production of AOS. With the rapid development of the Internet and information technology (in particular, generative adversarial networks and deep learning), network data are exploding. Due to the misuse of technology and inadequate supervision, deep-network-generated face images flood the network, and the forged image is called a deepfake. Those realistic faked images launched a serious challenge to the human eye and the automatic identification system, resulting in many legal, ethical, and social issues. For the needs of network information security, deep-network-generated face image identification based on different color spaces is proposed. Due to the extremely realistic effect of deepfake images, it is difficult to achieve high accuracy with ordinary methods for neural networks, so we used the image processing method here. First, by analyzing the differences in different color space components in the deep learning network model for face sensitivity, a combination of color space components that can effectively improve the discrimination rate of the deep learning network model is given. Second, to further improve the discriminative performance of the model, a channel attention mechanism was added at the shallow level of the model to further focus on the features contributing to the model. The experimental results show that this scheme achieved better accuracy in the same face generation model and in different face generation models than the two compared methods, and its accuracy reached up to 99.10% in the same face generation model. Meanwhile, the accuracy of this model only decreased to 98.71% when coping with a JPEG compression factor of 100, which shows that this model is robust. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To investigate the spatiotemporal patterns of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) under years of control measures in China, a comprehensive analysis including statistical analysis, geographical analysis, and health impact assessment was conducted on millions of hourly PM2.5 concentrations data during the period of 2017–2020 in six typical major urban agglomerations. During the period of 2017–2020, PM2.5 concentrations in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei urban agglomeration (BTH-UA), Central Plains urban agglomeration (CP-UA), Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration (YRD-UA), Triangle of Central China urban agglomeration (TC-UA), Chengdu–Chongqing urban agglomeration (CY-UA), and Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration (PRD-UA) decreased at a rate of 6.69, 5.57, 5.45, 3.85, 4.66, and 4.1 µg/m3/year, respectively. PM2.5 concentration in BTH-UA decreased by 30.5% over four years, with an annual average of 44.6 µg/m3 in 2020. CP-UA showed the lowest reduction ratio (22.1%) among the six regions, making it the most polluted urban agglomeration. In southern BTH-UA, northeastern CP-UA, and northwestern TC-UA, PM2.5 concentrations with high levels formed a high–high agglomeration, indicating pollution caused by source emission in these areas was high and hard to control. Atmospheric temperature, pressure, and wind speed have important influences on PM2.5 concentrations. RH has a positive correlation with PM2.5 concentration in north China but a negative correlation in south China. We estimated that meteorological conditions can explain 16.7–63.9% of the PM2.5 changes in 129 cities, with an average of 33.4%, indicating other factors including anthropogenic emissions dominated the PM2.5 changes. Among the six urban agglomerations, PM2.5 concentrations in the CP-UA were most influenced by the meteorological change. Benefiting from the reduction in PM2.5 concentration, the total respiratory premature mortalities in six regions decreased by 73.1%, from 2017 to 2020. The CP-UA had the highest respiratory premature mortality in six urban agglomerations. We suggested that the CP-UA needs more attention and stricter pollution control measures. The activation and degranulation of immune cells play a pivotal role in allergic inflammation, a pathological condition that includes anaphylaxis, pruritus, and allergic march-related diseases. In this study, trifuhalol A, a phlorotannin isolated from Agarum cribrosum, inhibited the degranulation of immune cells and the biosynthesis of IL-33 and IgE in differentiated B cells and keratinocytes, respectively. Additionally, trifuhalol A suppressed the IL-33 and IgE-mediated activation of RBL-2H3 cells through the regulation of the TAK1 and MK2 pathways. Hence, the effect of trifuhalol A on allergic inflammation was evaluated using a Compound 48/80-induced systemic anaphylaxis mouse model and a house dust mite (HDM)-induced atopic dermatitis (AD) mouse model. Trifuhalol A alleviated anaphylactic death and pruritus, which appeared as an early-phase reaction to allergic inflammation in the Compound 48/80-induced systemic anaphylaxis model. In addition, trifuhalol A improved symptoms such as itching, edema, erythema, and hyperkeratinization in HDM-induced AD mice as a late-phase reaction. Moreover, the expression of IL-33 and thymic stromal lymphopoietin, inflammatory cytokines secreted from activated keratinocytes, was significantly reduced by trifuhalol A administration, resulting in the reduced infiltration of immune cells into the skin and a reduction in the blood levels of IgE and IL-4. The Gtr1 protein was a member of the RagA subfamily of the Ras-like small GTPase superfamily and involved in phosphate acquisition, ribosome biogenesis and epigenetic control of gene expression in yeast. However, Gtr1 regulation sexual or asexual development in filamentous fungi is barely accepted. In the study, SeGtr1, identified from Stemphylium eturmiunum, could manipulate mycelial growth, nuclear distribution of mycelium and the morphology of conidia in Segtr1 silenced strains compared with its overexpression transformants, while the sexual activity of Segtr1 silenced strains were unchanged. SeASF1, a H3/H4 chaperone, participated in nucleosome assembly/disassembly, DNA replication and transcriptional regulation. Our experiments showed that deletion Seasf1 mutants produced the hyphal fusion and abnormal conidia. Notably, we characterized that Segtr1 was down-regulated in Se∆asf1 mutants and Seasf1 was also down-regulated in SiSegtr1 strains. We further confirmed that SeGtr1 interacted with SeASF1 or SeH4 in vivo and vitro, respectively. Thus, SeGtr1 can cooperate with SeASF1 to modulate asexual development in Stemphylium eturmiunum. During our ongoing survey of dematiaceous hyphomycetes associated with dead branches in tropical forests, eight Acrodictys isolates were collected from Hainan, China. Morphology from the cultures and phylogeny based on partial small subunit (SSU), entire internal transcribed spacer regions with intervening 5.8S (ITS), partial large subunit (LSU) of rRNA gene, partial beta-tubulin (tub2), and partial RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (rpb2) genes were employed to identify these isolates. As a result, four new species, namely Acrodictys bawanglingensis sp. nov., A. diaoluoshanensis sp. nov., A. ellisii sp. nov., and A. pigmentosa sp. nov., are introduced. Illustrations and descriptions of the four taxa are provided, along with comparisons with closely related taxa in the genus. The fungal genus Gnomoniopsis (Gnomoniaceae, Diaporthales) has been reported all around the world and isolated from multiple plant hosts. Based on multilocus phylogenies from a combined dataset of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, the ribosomal RNA gene cluster, and partial regions of translation elongation factor 1 alpha (tef1) and partial beta-tubulin (tub2), in conjunction with morphological characteristics, we describe and illustrate herein four new species, including Gnomoniopsisdiaoluoshanensis sp. Nov., G. lithocarpi sp. Nov., G. mengyinensis sp. Nov. and G.yunnanensis sp. Nov. Alongside this, their similarity and dissimilarity to morphologically-allied and phylogenetically-related species are annotated and discussed. Species in Microdochium, potential agents of biocontrol, have often been reported as plant pathogens, occasionally as endophytes and fungicolous fungi. Combining multiple molecular markers (ITS rDNA, LSU rDNA, TUB2 and RPB2) with morphological characteristics, this study proposes three new species in the genus Microdochium represented by seven strains from the plant hosts Miscanthus sinensis and Phragmites australis in Hainan Island, China. These three species, Microdochium miscanthi sp. Nov., M. sinense sp. Nov. and M. hainanense sp. Nov., are described with MycoBank number, etymology, typification, morphological features and illustrations, as well as placement on molecular phylogenetic trees. Their affinity with morphologically allied and molecularly closely related species are also analyzed. Ground-level ozone (O3) pollution has become a serious environmental issue in major urban agglomerations in China. To investigate the spatiotemporal patterns and regional transports of O3 in Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei (BTH-UA), the Yangtze River Delta (YRD-UA), the Triangle of Central China (TC-UA), Chengdu–Chongqing (CY-UA), and the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration (PRD-UA), multiple transdisciplinary methods were employed to analyze the O3-concentration data that were collected from national air quality monitoring networks operated by the China National Environmental Monitoring Center (CNEMC). It was found that although ozone concentrations have decreased in recent years, ozone pollution is still a serious issue in China. O3 exhibited different spatiotemporal patterns in the five urban agglomerations. In terms of monthly variations, O3 had a unimodal structure in BTH-UA but a bimodal structure in the other urban agglomerations. The maximum O3 concentration was in autumn in PRD-UA, but in summer in the other urban agglomerations. In spatial distribution, the main distribution of O3 concentration was aligned in northeast–southwest direction for BTH-UA and CY-UA, but in northwest–southeast direction for YRD-UA, TC-UA, and PRD-UA. O3 concentrations exhibited positive spatial autocorrelations in BTH-UA, YRD-UA, and TC-UA, but negative spatial autocorrelations in CY-UA and PRD-UA. Variations in O3 concentration were more affected by weather fluctuations in coastal cities while the variations were more affected by seasonal changes in inland cities. O3 transport in the center cities of the five urban agglomerations was examined by backward trajectory and potential source analyses. Local areas mainly contributed to the O3 concentrations in the five cities, but regional transport also played a significant role. Species of Absidia are distributed widely in the environment, while their diversity is insufficiently studied. Three new species, A. frigida, A. gemella and A. longissima, are proposed herein from Xinjiang and Yunnan in China based on phylogenetic, morphological and physiological evidence. According to maximum likelihood (ML), maximum parsimony (MP) and Bayesian inference (BI) analyses, the phylogenetical results suggest that A. frigida, A. gemella and A. longissima are closely related to A. psychrophilia, A. turgida and A. zonata and A. koreana, respectively, based on ITS and LSU rDNA sequences. Absidia frigida is characterized by a lower growth temperature, which does not grow above 24 °C. It differs from A. psychrophilia by sporangiophores, sporangia, columellae, collars and projections. Absidia gemella is distinguished from A. turgida by hypha, sporangiospores, sporangia, projections and sporangiophores. Absidia longissima is discriminated from A. zonata and A. koreana by sporangiophores, columellae and collars. The three new species are described and illustrated in this article. To meet the requirements of low frequency, high power, small size and light weight, a type of Class I barrel-stave flextensional transducer employing improved concave stave is presented. As the key component of flextensional transducer, concave stave plays an important role in vibrating efficiently to radiate acoustic energy. The structure of concave stave has a great effect on its behavior. In this paper, the main parameters of concave stave are discussed, especially the effect of radius on flextensional transducer. Both concave stave and transducer are analyzed through finite element method, including mechanical transformation behavior of concave stave and performances of flextensional transducer. On the basis of finite element design, five prototypes employing concave staves with different radii are manufactured and measured. The simulations and tests reveal that concave stave can affect performances of flextensional transducer. A larger radius of concave stave will result in a greater amplification of vibration and a lower resonance frequency of transducer. This can be a feasible way to optimize the resonance frequency or source level of flextensional transducer through adjusting the radius of concave stave in a small range. According to the electrical and acoustical tests, our Class I barrel-stave flextensional transducer is capable of being used as underwater low-frequency small-size projector. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease involving structural changes to the respiratory system and severe immune responses mediated by allergic cytokines and pro-inflammatory mediators. Agarum cribrosum (AC) is a kind of seaweed which contains a phlorotannin, trifuhalol A. To evaluate its anti-allergic inflammatory effect against asthma, an ovalbumin inhalation-induced mouse asthma model was used. Histologic observations proved that trifuhalol A is minimizing the lung and tracheal structure changes as well as the infiltration of eosinophils and mast cells against ovalbumin inhalation challenge. From the serum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, ovalbumin-specific IgE and Th2-specific cytokines, IL-4, -5, and -13, were reduced with trifuhalol A treatment. In addition, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α concentrations in lung homogenate were also significantly reduced via trifuhalol A treatment. Taken together, trifuhalol A, isolated from AC, was able to protect lung and airways from Th2-specific cytokine release, and IgE mediated allergic inflammation as well as the attenuation of IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α in lung, which results in the suppression of eosinophils and the mast cells involved asthmatic pathology.

Phlorotannins are a group of complex polymers of phloroglucinol (1,3,5-trihydroxybenzene), which are unique compounds from marine brown algae. In our present study, a procedure for extraction and enrichment of phlorotannins from S. fusiforme with highly antioxidant potentials was established. After comparison of different extraction methods, the optimal extraction conditions were established as follows. The freeze-dried seaweed powder was extracted with 30% ethanol-water solvent with a solid/liquid ratio of 1:5 at temperature of 25 °C for 30 min. After extraction, the phlorotannins were fractioned by different solvents, among which the ethyl acetate fraction exhibited both the highest total phlorotannin content (88.48 ± 0.30 mg PGE/100 mg extract) and the highest antioxidant activities. The extracts obtained from these locations were further purified and characterized using a modified UHPLC-QQQ-MS method. Compounds with 42 different molecular weights were detected and tentatively identified, among which the fuhalol-type phlorotannins were the dominant compounds, followed by phlorethols and fucophlorethols with diverse degree of polymerization. Eckol-type phlorotannins including some newly discovered carmalol derivatives were detected in Sargassum species for the first time. Our study not only described the complex phlorotannins composition in S. fusiforme , but also highlighted the challenges involved in structural elucidation of these compounds.
