The active wave absorption method has been widely employed in numerical wave tanks. The wave absorption performance of active wave absorption methods is investigated within a numerical wave tank based on a lattice Boltzmann method. Specifically, two active wave absorption methods—the classical shallow water method and the extended range method—are compared. By analyzing the contributions of free and bound components in the harmonics of the reflected wave to the reflection coefficient, we found that the extended-range method is more effective than the shallow-water method in absorbing the reflection of the primary harmonic. Moreover, a wave absorption performance index is proposed to carry out rapid evaluation of active wave absorption method performance without resorting to numerical simulations. Our findings indicate that the performance index ratio of two active wave absorption methods closely mirrored their reflection coefficient ratio. Notably, the extended-range method significantly reduces the performance index in both shallow and deep waters, exhibiting superior active absorption performance within the lattice Boltzmann method-based numerical wave tank context compared to the shallow-water method. In this study, Setaria viridis was selected as the research object, the soil reinforcement mode of roots was analyzed, and the general mechanical model of soil reinforcement was proposed. The direct shear tests of root–soil composite and root tensile tests were carried out, and the relationship between the root additional cohesion and root depth was studied. Furthermore, numerical simulations were established to explore the variation law of shallow displacement and slope stability as a function of the root ratio. The results show that the effect of herbaceous plant roots on the soil was composed of material modification and root binding force on the soil. The shear strength improvement of the root–soil composite was mainly reflected by the increase in cohesion. Furthermore, the composite cohesion was positively correlated with the root content but negatively correlated with the water content. With the increase in root diameter, the tensile strength of the Setaria viridis root increased linearly, but its tensile strength decreased and showed a power relation. The greater the total cohesion of the root–soil composite layer, the smaller the total displacement and the higher the slope stability. Thus, the slope's herbaceous vegetation could effectively control the deformation and slip of the shallow soil, which has good application value for reducing soil erosion in mining areas. The accuracy of point cloud processing results is greatly dependent on the determination of the voxel size and shape during the point cloud voxelization process. Previous studies predominantly set voxel sizes based on point cloud density or the size of ground objects. Voxels are mostly considered square in shape by default. However, conventional square voxels are not applicable to all surfaces. This study proposes a method of using cuboid voxels to extract urban road boundary points using curb points as road boundary points. In comparison with conventional cubic voxels, cuboid voxels reduce the probability of mixed voxels at the road curb, highlight two geometric features of road curb voxels (i.e., normal vector and distribution dimension), and improve the accuracy of road curb point extraction. In this study, ground points were obtained using cloth simulation filtering. First, the cuboid-based voxelization of ground points was performed. Then, taking the voxel as a unit, two geometric features, namely, the normal vector of the voxel and the linear dimension of the point distribution in the voxel, were calculated. According to these geometric features, the voxels that met the conditions were regarded as candidate road curb voxels, and the points in them as candidate road curb points. Afterward, filtering was applied using the intensity value to eliminate the bottom points of fences, street trees, and other ground objects in the candidate road curb points. Finally, noise points were eliminated according to the clustering results of the density based spatial clustering of applications with noise (DBSCAN) algorithm. In this study, point cloud data obtained by the SSW vehicle-mounted mobile mapping system and three-point cloud datasets in the IQmulus & TerraMobilita competition dataset were used to experimentally extract road curbs. Results showed that this method could effectively extract road curb points as the precision of the four groups of data results was over 90% and the quality coefficient reached over 75%. As one of the most important components of the innate immune system, neutrophils are always at the forefront of the response to diseases. The immune functions of neutrophils include phagocytosis, degranulation, production of reactive oxygen species, and the production of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). NETs are composed of deconcentrated chromatin DNA, histones, myeloperoxidase (MPO) and neutrophil elastase (NE), playing an important role in the resistance to some pathogenic microbial invasions. Until recent years, when NETs were found to play a critical role in cancer. NETs play bidirectional regulation both positive and negative roles in the development and progression of cancer. Targeted NETs may provide new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of cancer. However, the molecular and cellular regulatory mechanisms underlying the formation and role of NET in cancer remain unclear. Piezo1 was originally identified as a mechanically activated, nonselective cation ion channel, with significant permeability to calcium ions, is evolutionally conserved, and is involved in the proliferation and development of various types of cells, in the context of various types of mechanical or innate stimuli. Recently, our study and work by others have reported that Piezo1 from all kinds of immune cells is involved in regulating many diseases, including infectious inflammation and cancer. This review summarizes the recent progress made in understanding the immunoregulatory role and mechanisms of the mechanical receptor Piezo1 in inflammation and cancer and provides new insight into the biological significance of Piezo1 in regulating immunity and tumors. In this study, the tsunami-induced bottom boundary layer was investigated based on actual waveforms obtained by the GPS buoys along the coast of the Tohoku region during the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake tsunami. The k-ω model was utilized for the numerical analysis in this study. As a result, the tsunami boundary layer thickness was found to be extremely thin compared to the water depth. The velocity distribution was similar to that of the bottom boundary layer under wind-generated waves. The flow regime is located in the transition from smooth turbulence to rough turbulence. Because of this, the gradient of the flow across the layer is much greater than the gradients in the steady flow direction. Therefore, the bottom friction is underestimated if the steady friction factor, such as in the Manning formula, is used. This study proposes a new simple method for calculating the bottom shear stress due to an irregular tsunami based on the wave friction law, and the k-ω model results are used to validate the proposed methods. A theoretical and numerical study is carried out to investigate the transformation of the wave boundary layer from non-depth-limited (wave-like boundary layer) to depth-limited one (current-like boundary layer) over a smooth bottom. A long period of wave motion is not sufficient to induce depth-limited properties, although it has simply been assumed in various situations under long waves, such as tsunami and tidal currents. Four criteria are obtained theoretically for recognizing the inception of the depth-limited condition under waves. To validate the theoretical criteria, numerical simulation results using a turbulence model as well as laboratory experiment data are employed. Simple Summary: Myeloid-Derived Suppressor Cells (MDSCs) have been regarded as the main promoters of cancer development in recent years. They can protect tumor cells from being eliminated by neutralizing the anti-tumor response mediated by T cells, macrophages and dendritic cells (DCs). Therefore, different treatment methods targeting MDSCs, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy, have been developed and proven to effectively inhibit tumor expansion. Herein, we summarize the immunosuppressive role of MDSCs in the tumor microenvironment and some effective treatments targeting MDSCs, and discuss the differences between different therapies. Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), which are activated under pathological conditions, are a group of heterogeneous immature myeloid cells. MDSCs have potent capacities to support tumor growth via inhibition of the antitumoral immune response and/or the induction of immunosuppressive cells. In addition, multiple studies have demonstrated that MDSCs provide potential therapeutic targets for the elimination of immunosuppressive functions and the inhibition of tumor growth. The combination of targeting MDSCs and other therapeutic approaches has also demonstrated powerful antitumor effects. The therapeutic effects of glucocorticoids on colitis and colitis-associated cancer are unclear. In this study, we investigated the therapeutic roles of glucocorticoids in acute experimental ulcerative colitis and colitis-associated cancer in mice and their immunoregulatory mechanisms. Murine acute ulcerative colitis was induced by dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) and treated with dexamethasone (Dex) at different doses. Dex significantly exacerbated the onset and severity of DSS-induced colitis and potentiated mucosal inflammatory macrophage and neutrophil infiltration, as well as cytokine production. Furthermore, under inflammatory conditions, the expression of the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) did not change significantly, while mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling was higher in colonic epithelial cells than in colonic immune cells. The deletion of mTOR in intestinal epithelial cells, but not that in myeloid immune cells, in mice significantly ameliorated the severe course of colitis caused by Dex, including weight loss, clinical score, colon length, pathological damage, inflammatory cell infiltration and pro-inflammatory cytokine production. These data suggest that mTOR signaling in intestinal epithelial cells, mainly mTORC1, plays a critical role in the Dex-induced exacerbation of acute colitis and colitis-associated cancer. Thus, these pieces of evidence indicate that glucocorticoid-induced mTOR signaling in epithelial cells is required in the early stages of acute ulcerative colitis by modulating the dynamics of innate immune cell recruitment and activation. Follicular helper T (TFH) cells are critical for germinal center (GC) formation and are responsible for effective B cell-mediated immunity; metabolic signaling is an important regulatory mechanism for the differentiation of TFH cells. However, the precise roles of hypoxia inducible factor (HIF) 1α-dependent glycolysis and oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) metabolic signaling remain unclear in TFH cell differentiation. Herein, we investigated the effects of glycolysis and OXPHOS on TFH cell differentiation and GC responses using a pharmacological approach in mice under a steady immune status or an activated immune status, which can be caused by foreign antigen stimulation and viral infection. GC and TFH cell responses are related to signals from glycolytic metabolism in mice of different ages. Foreign, specific antigen-induced GC, and TFH cell responses and metabolic signals are essential upon PR8 infection. Glycolysis and succinate-mediated OXPHOS are required for the GC response and TFH cell differentiation. Furthermore, HIF1α is responsible for glycolysis- and OXPHOS-induced alterations in the GC response and TFH cell differentiation under steady or activated conditions in vivo. Blocking glycolysis and upregulating OXPHOS signaling significantly recovered TFH cell differentiation upon PR8 infection and ameliorated inflammatory damage in mice. Thus, our data provide a comprehensive experimental basis for fully understanding the precise roles of HIF1α-mediated glycolysis and OXPHOS metabolic signaling in regulating the GC response and TFH cell differentiation during stable physiological conditions or an antiviral immune response. This paper presents the use of radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology for the real-time remote monitoring of body temperature, while an associated program can determine the location of the body carrying the respective sensor. The RFID chip's internal integrated temperature sensor is used for both the human-body temperature detection and as a measurement device, while using radio-frequency communication to broadcast the temperature information. The adopted RFID location technology makes use of reference tags together with a nearest neighbor localization algorithm and a multiple-antenna time-division multiplexing location system. A graphical user interface (GUI) was developed for collecting temperature and location data for the data fusion by using RFID protocols. With a puppy as test object, temperature detection and localization experiments were carried out. The measured results show that the applied method, when using a mercury thermometer for comparison in terms of measuring the temperature of the dog, has a good consistency, with an average temperature error of 0.283 °C. When using the associated program over the area of 12.25 m2, the average location error is of 0.461 m, which verifies the feasibility of the sensor-carrier location by using the proposed program.
