Chemotherapy is one of the most effective treatments for cancer, but the efficacy of standard chemotherapy regimens is often limited by toxicities and the individual heterogeneity of cancers. Precise dosing is an important tool to improve efficacy and reduce significant differences in toxicity. However, most of the existing studies on chemotherapy optimization fail to fully consider the toxic side effects, drug resistance, and drug combinations, and thus the chemotherapy regimens obtained may face difficulty in achieving the expected efficacy and also affect the subsequent treatment. Therefore, this paper establishes a tumor growth model for the combination chemotherapy of cell cycle-specific and non-cycle-specific drugs and includes the factors of acquired drug resistance and toxic side effects, proposing an improved multi-objective Squirrel Search Algorithm, the TA-MOSSA, to solve the problem of accurate chemotherapy drug optimization. In this paper, experiments were conducted to analyze the efficacy of chemotherapy dosing regimens obtained by the TA-MOSSA based on the tumor growth model, and the results show that the TA-MOSSA can provide effective chemotherapy regimens for patients who take different treatment approaches. Creating lightweight and impact-resistant box structures has been an enduring pursuit among researchers. A new energy-absorbing structure consisting of a bionic gradient lattice-enhanced thin-walled tube is presented in this article. The gradient lattice and thin-walled tube were prepared using selective laser melting (SLM) and wire-cutting techniques, respectively. To analyze the effects of gradient pattern, mass ratio, diameter range and impact speed on structural crashworthiness, low-speed impact at 4 m/s and finite element simulation experiments were conducted. The study demonstrates that the design of inward radial gradient lattice-reinforced thin-walled tubes can effectively enhance structure's energy-absorption efficiency and provide a more stable mode of deformation. It also shows a 17.44% specific energy-absorption advantage over the uniformly lattice-reinforced thin-walled tubes, with no significant overall gain in peak crushing force. A complex scale evaluation method was used to determine the optimum structure and the structure type with the best crashworthiness was found to be a gradient lattice-filled tube with a thickness of 0.9 mm and a slope index of 10. The aim of topology optimisation is to determine the optimal distribution of material phases within the periodic cells of a microstructure. In this paper, the density of grid points under element volume fraction is constructed to replace the finite elements in the traditional SIMP framework, avoiding jagged and blurry boundaries in the computational process due to grid dependence. This is then combined with homogenisation theory, a microstructure topology optimisation algorithm with maximum bulk modulus under prescribed volume constraints is proposed, which can obtain 2D and 3D topologies with smooth boundaries. In addition, a closed form expression for the two-dimensional topological concave edge structure (taking the most typical topology as an example) was derived, and a compression experiment was conducted on the topological microstructure based on 3D metal printing technology. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the powder bonded on the surface of the printed structure was not completely melted and the step effect caused the finite element analysis results to be higher than the experimental results. Overall, the finite element simulation and experimental results of the concave surface structure have good consistency, with high strength and energy absorption effects. Topologies based on grid point density obtain microstructures with smooth boundaries, and the introduction of the Heaviside smoothing function and multiple filtering steps within this algorithm leads to more robust optimisation, facilitating 3D or 4D printing of microstructures that meet specific design requirements and confirming the feasibility of the proposed topology for lightweighting studies. Lattice structures are characterized by a light weight, high strength, and high stiffness, and have a wide range of applications in the aerospace field. Node stress concentration is a key factor affecting the mechanical performance of lattice structures. In this paper, a new equal-strength body-centered cubic (ES-BCC) lattice structure was additively manufactured using 316L stainless steel via selective laser melting (SLM). The results of a mechanical compression test and finite element analysis revealed that the failure location of the ES-BCC structure changed from the nodes to the center of the struts. At the same density, the energy absorption, elastic modulus, and yield strength of the ES-BCC structure increased by 11.89%, 61.80%, and 53.72% compared to the BCC structure, respectively. Furthermore, the change in angle of the ES-BCC structure achieves significant changes in strength, stiffness, and energy absorption to meet different design requirements and engineering applications. Maternal dietary patterns during pregnancy have been demonstrated to impact the structure of the gut microbiota in offspring, altering their susceptibility to diseases. This study is designed to elucidate whether the impact of folic acid supplementation during pregnancy on hepatic steatosis in male offspring of rat dams exposed to a high-fat diet (HFD) is related to gut–liver axis homeostasis. In this study, female rats were administered a HFD and simultaneously supplemented with 5 mg/kg folic acid throughout their pregnancy. Histopathological examination showed that folic acid supplementation effectively ameliorated hepatic lipid accumulation and inflammatory infiltrate in male offspring subjected to a maternal HFD. Maternal folic acid supplementation reduced the abundance of Desulfobacterota and the Firmicutes/Bacteroidota (F/B) ratio in male offspring. The expression of tight junction proteins in the colon was significantly upregulated, and the serum LPS level was significantly reduced. Furthermore, there was a notable reduction in the hepatic expression of the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway and subsequent inflammatory mediators. Spearman's correlation analysis revealed significant associations between hepatic inflammation-related indices and several gut microbiota, particularly Desulfobacterota and Lactobacillus. With a reduction in hepatic inflammation, the expression of PPAR-α was upregulated, and the expression of SREBP-1c and its downstream lipid metabolism-related genes was downregulated. In summary, folic acid supplementation during pregnancy modulates gut microbiota and enhances intestinal barrier integrity in male offspring of HFD dams. This helps reduce the LPS leakage and suppress the expression of TLR4/NF-κB pathway in the liver, thereby improving lipid metabolism disorders, and alleviating hepatic steatosis. In this paper, a new hybrid structure of body-centered cubic lattice-filled thin-walled tube is designed, and the hybrid structure specimens of one-piece printing and split-printing are prepared by laser melting technique. The deformation mode and energy absorption characteristics of the new hybrid structure are investigated by experiments and numerical simulations. Under axial compression, the one-piece printed hybrid structure forms more wrinkles with smaller wavelengths, and the specific energy absorption increases by 12.14% compared with the split-printed structure; under transverse compression, the one-piece printed structure does not show the separation of the thin-walled tube from the lattice, and the specific energy absorption increases by 134.83% compared with the split-printed structure. It is worth noting that the designed hybrid structure has a 112.60% (580.15%) increase in specific energy absorption under axial compression (under transverse compression) compared to the empty tube. The effects of wall thickness, lattice density, and loading rate on the crashworthiness of the hybrid structure were investigated using a validated finite element model. Based on the advantages of thin-walled tubes and lattice structures in energy absorption and improved crashworthiness, a hybrid structure of lattice-reinforced thin-walled tubes with different cross-sectional cell numbers and gradient densities was constructed, and a high crashworthiness absorber with adjustable energy absorption was proposed. The experimental and finite element characterization of the impact resistance of uniform density and gradient density hybrid tubes with different lattice arrangements to withstand axial compression was carried out to investigate the interaction mechanism between the lattice packing and the metal shell, and the energy absorption of the hybrid structure was increased by 43.40% relative to the sum of its individual components. The effect of transverse cell number configuration and gradient configuration on the impact resistance of the hybrid structure was investigated, and the results showed that the hybrid structure showed higher energy absorption than the empty tube, and the best specific energy absorption was increased by 83.02%; the transverse cell number configuration had a greater effect on the specific energy absorption of the hybrid structure with uniform density, and the maximum specific energy absorption of the hybrid structure with different configurations was increased by 48.21%. The gradient density configuration had a significant effect on the peak crushing force of the gradient structure. In addition, the effects of wall thickness, density and gradient configuration on energy absorption were quantitatively analyzed. Long-term intensive use of mineral fertilizers in double rice-cropping systems has led to soil acidification and soil degradation. Manure fertilization was suggested as an alternative strategy to mitigate soil degradation. However, the effects of long-term mineral and manure fertilization on rice grain yield, yield stability, soil organic carbon (SOC) content, soil total nitrogen (TN) content, and the underlying mechanisms are unclear. Based on a long-term experiment established in 1981 in southern China, we compared four treatments: no fertilizer application (Control); application of nitrogen–phosphorus–potassium (NPK); NPK plus green manure in early rice (M1); and M1 plus farmyard manure in late rice and rice straw return in winter (M2). Our results showed that 37 years of NPK, M1, and M2 significantly increased rice grain yield by 54%, 46%, and 72%, and yield stability by 22%, 17%, and 9%, respectively. M1 and M2 significantly increased SOC content by 39% and 23% compared to Control, respectively, whereas there was no difference between Control and NPK. Regarding soil TN content, it was significantly increased by 8%, 46%, and 20% by NPK, M1, and M2, respectively. In addition, M2 significantly increased bacterial OTU richness by 68%, Chao1 index by 79%, and altered the bacterial community composition. Changes in soil nutrient availability and bacterial Simpson index were positively correlated with the changes in grain yield, while shifts in bacterial community were closely related to yield stability. This study provides pioneer comprehensive assessments of the simultaneous responses of grain yield, yield stability, SOC and TN content, nutrient availability, and bacterial community composition to long-term mineral and manure fertilization in a double rice-cropping system. A category of metamaterials consisting of chiral cytosolic elements assembled periodically, in which the introduction of a rotatable annular structure gives metamaterials the ability to deform in compression–shear, has been a focus of research in recent years. In this paper, a compression–shear coupling model is developed to predict the compressive deformation behaviour of chiral metamaterials. This behaviour will be analysed by coupling the rotation of the annular node and the bending characteristics of ligament beam, which are obtained as a function of the length of ligament beam and the angle of rotation at the end of the beam. The shape function of the ligament beam under large deformation is obtained based on the elliptic integral theory; the function characterises the potential relationship between key parameters such as displacement and rotation angle at any point on the ligament beam. By simulating the deformation of cells under uniaxial compression, the reasonableness of the large deformation model of the ligament beam is verified. On this basis, a chiral cell-compression mechanical model considering the ductile deformation of the annular node is established. The compression–shear deformation of two-dimensional planar chiral metamaterials and three-dimensional cylindrical-shell chiral metamaterials was predicted; the offset displacements and torsion angles agreed with the experimental and finite element simulation results with an error of less than 10%. The developed compression–shear coupling model provides a theoretical basis for the design of chiral metamaterials, which meet the need for the precise control of shapes and properties. To decrease the transfer of cadmium (Cd) to the food chain, it is essential to select wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) germplasm that accumulates the least amount of Cd and to develop management practices that promote a reduction in Cd uptake. This requires knowledge of factors controlling Cd accumulation in wheat plants, which are not fully understood. The aim of this study was thus to investigate variations in Cd accumulation, translocation, and subcellular distribution in response to Cd stress and supplemental Si in two wheat cultivars that have high vs. low Cd accumulation capacities. Cd uptake and distribution in two common wheat cultivars, high-Cd 'LCS Star' and low-Cd 'UI Platinum' were evaluated at two levels of Cd (0 and 50 µM) and Si (0 and 1.5 mM) in a hydroponic experiment. LCS Star and UI Platinum were not different in root Cd accumulation but differed in Cd concentration in the shoot, which agreed with the variation between the two cultivars in their subcellular Cd distributions in organelle and soluble fractions as well as induced glutathione synthesis in response to Cd addition. Supplemental Si reduced Cd uptake and accumulation and suppressed Cd-induced glutathione synthesis. The differences between the wheat cultivars in Cd accumulation in shoots mainly derive from root-to-shoot translocation, which is related to subcellular Cd distribution and Cd-induced glutathione synthesis. Hyperspectral images are one of the most important fundamental and strategic information resources, imaging the same ground object with hundreds of spectral bands varying from the ultraviolet to the microwave. With the emergence of huge volumes of high-resolution hyperspectral images produced by all sorts of imaging sensors, processing and analysis of these images requires effective retrieval techniques. How to ensure retrieval accuracy and efficiency is a challenging task in the field of hyperspectral image retrieval. In this paper, an efficient hyperspectral image retrieval method is proposed. In principle, our method includes the following steps: (1) in order to make powerful representations for hyperspectral images, deep spectral-spatial features are extracted with the Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks (DCGAN) model; (2) considering the higher dimensionality of deep spectral-spatial features, t-Distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding-based Nonlinear Manifold (t-SNE-based NM) hashing is utilized to make dimensionality reduction by learning compact binary codes embedded on the intrinsic manifolds of deep spectral-spatial features for balancing between learning efficiency and retrieval accuracy; and (3) multi-index hashing in Hamming space is measured to find similar hyperspectral images. Five comparative experiments are conducted to verify the effectiveness of deep spectral-spatial features, dimensionality reduction of t-SNE-based NM hashing, and similarity measurement of multi-index hashing. In this study, we retrieve an Arctic sea ice lead fraction from AMSR2 passive microwave data in winter from 2012 to 2020 based on an algorithm developed for AMSR-E data. The derived AMSR2 sea ice lead fraction is validated against MODIS images. The results show that the derived AMSR2 sea ice lead detects approximately 50% of the ice leads shown in the MODIS images, which is close to the amount of sea ice lead detected from the AMSR-E data from 2002 to 2011. Utilizing the retrievals from both the AMSR-E and AMSR2, our analysis shows no significant trend, but moderate interannual variation exists for the ice lead fraction in the Arctic basin scale over the past two decades. The maximum width and total length of sea ice lead show a significant decreasing trend for the whole Arctic, but the mean width does not exhibit a significant change over the studied period. In the Beaufort Sea the lead fraction varies from 2.06% to 12.35%, with a mean value of 5.72%. In the Greenland Sea the mean lead fraction over the studied period is 5.77%, and there is a significant increase in the lead fraction, with a rate of 0.13% per year. There has been an increasing number of studies on the interaction between active substances and probiotics to improve disease. Both krill oil (KO) and probiotics have the effect of improving atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, but the combined effect has not been explored. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore the improvement effect of KO combined with probiotics on atherosclerosis. The atherosclerotic plaque area of ApoE−/− mice was detected after the intervention of KO, Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis F1-7 (Bif. animalis F1-7), and KO combined with Bif. animalis F1-7. The results showed that Bif. animalis F1-7, KO, and KO combined with Bif. animalis F1-7 could significantly reduce the area of atherosclerotic plaque and improve the levels of serum lipids and inflammatory factors. They could regulate the farnesoid X receptor (FXR)/cholesterol 7-alpha hydroxylase (CYP7A1) pathway to reduce lipid accumulation. The intervention groups could also improve the inflammatory response by downregulating the Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88) pathway. The anti-inflammatory effect of the interaction group was significantly better than that of KO. It proved that Bif. animalis F1-7 might play a synergistic effect in the improvement of inflammation by KO to the alleviation of atherosclerosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a relapsing and remitting inflammatory disease. Probiotics have a potential beneficial effect on the prevention of UC onset and relapse in clinical trials. Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (L. rhamnosus GG) have shown clinical benefits on UC patients, however, the precise mechanisms are unknown. The aim of this study is to explore the effect of extracellular vesicles released from L. rhamnosus GG (LGG-EVs) on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis and propose the underlying mechanism of LGG-EVs for protecting against colitis. The results showed that LGG-EVs could prevent colonic tissue damage and shortening of the colon (p < 0.01), and ameliorate intestinal inflammation by inhibiting TLR4-NF-κB-NLRP3 axis activation. Consistently, the pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-2) were suppressed effectively upon LGG-EVs treatment (p < 0.05). The 16S rRNA sequencing showed that LGG-EVs administration could reshape the gut microbiota in DSS-induced colitis mice, which further alters the metabolism pathways of gut microbiota. These findings propose a novel perspective of L. rhamnosus GG in attenuating inflammation mediated by extracellular vesicles and offer consideration for developing oral gavage of LGG-EVs for colitis therapies. A phenazine-1-carboxylic acid intermediate was synthesized from the reaction of aniline and 2-bromo-3-nitro-benzoic acid. It was then esterified and reacted with hydrazine hydrate to afford phenazine-1-carboxylic hydrazine. Finally, 10 new hydrazone compounds 3a–3j were obtained by the condensation reaction of phenazine-1-carboxylic acid hydrazide and the respective aldehyde-containing compound. The structures were characterized by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, MS and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The antitumor activity of the target compounds in vitro (HeLa and A549) was determined by thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide. The results showed that compound (E)-N′-(2-hydroxy-4-(2-(piperidine-1-yl) ethoxy) benzyl) phenazine-1-carbonyl hydrazide 3d exhibited good cytotoxic activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cemented particulate composite is a kind of composite material with high strength, high energy absorption, and multifunctional characteristics, which is widely used in engineering practice. The calculation of the mechanical properties of granular composites based on theoretical methods has always been a topic of discussion. A micromechanical model with a three-dimensional rigid beam-spring network (3D-RBSN) is proposed here. The stiffness matrix of the model was calculated theoretically. The model was applied to the analysis of the mechanical properties of composites material with glass beads and epoxy resin. The results indicate that the 3D-RBSN model can effectively predict the mechanical properties of composite materials, such as Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio. Transportation infrastructure promotes the regional flow of production. The construction and use of transportation infrastructure have a crucial effect on climate change, the sustainable development of the economy, and Green Total Factor Productivity (GTFP). Based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2005 to 2017, this study empirically analyses the spatial spillover effect of transportation infrastructure on the GTFP using the Malmquist–Luenberger (ML) index and the dynamic spatial Durbin model. We found that transportation infrastructure has direct and spatial spillover effects on the growth of GTFP; highway density and railway density have significant positive spatial spillover effects, and especially-obvious immediate and lagging spatial spillover effects in the short-term. We also note that the passenger density and freight density of transportation infrastructure account for a relatively small contribution to the regional GTFP. Considering environmental pollution, energy consumption, and the enriching of the traffic infrastructure index system, we used the dynamic spatial Durbin model to study the spatial spillover effects of transportation infrastructure on GTFP. Lodging in cereal crops can result in yield loss and harvesting difficulties for growers. Application of plant growth regulator (PGR) has been an indispensable management practice to reduce lodging problems that are often exacerbated during high wind growing conditions and/or high nitrogen (N)/water environments, but the data is limited in the Columbia Basin of Oregon. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of two PGR products (chlormequat chloride-CC, trinexapac-ethyl-TE) at different rates and application timings on two soft white winter wheat varieties (ORCH-102 and SY Ovation). Crop growth (stem height and thickness), yield-related (spike density as ears m−2, seeds per spike, grain weight) and quality parameters (test weight, protein) were measured for two cropping seasons from October 2017 to July 2019 following the application of the two PGR products at tillering (GS21-26), stem elongation (GS30-32), and/or flag leaf (GS37-39) stages under a high-N fertilizer scenario. In both growing seasons, no lodging problems were recorded for any treatments. The plant height was reduced after PGR application, but the impact on stem thickness was limited. PGR application slightly affected wheat yield, yield components, testing weight, and protein level in both growing seasons. In this paper, the immiscible water-alternating-CO2 flooding process at the LH11-1 oilfield, offshore Guangdong Province, was firstly evaluated using full-field reservoir simulation models. Based on a 3D geological model and oil production history, 16 scenarios of water-alternating-CO2 injection operations with different water alternating gas (WAG) ratios and slug sizes, as well as continuous CO2 injection (Con-CO2) and primary depletion production (No-CO2) scenarios, have been simulated spanning 20 years. The results represent a significant improvement in oil recovery by CO2 WAG over both Con-CO2 and No-CO2 scenarios. The WAG ratio and slug size of water affect the efficiency of oil recovery and CO2 injection. The optimum operations are those with WAG ratios lower than 1:2, which have the higher ultimate oil recovery factor of 24%. Although WAG reduced the CO2 injection volume, the CO2 storage efficiency is still high, more than 84% of the injected CO2 was sequestered in the reservoir. Results indicate that the immiscible water-alternating-CO2 processes can be optimized to improve significantly the performance of pressure maintenance and oil recovery in offshore reef heavy-oil reservoirs significantly. The simulation results suggest that the LH11-1 field is a good candidate site for immiscible CO2 enhanced oil recovery and storage for the Guangdong carbon capture, utilization and storage (GDCCUS) project. Carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) is a combination of technologies capable of achieving large-scale reductions in carbon dioxide emissions across a variety of industries. Its application to date has however been mostly limited to the power sector, despite emissions from other industrial sectors accounting for around 30% of global anthropogenic CO2 emissions. This paper explores the challenges of and requirements for implementing CCUS in non-power industrial sectors in general, and in the steel sector in particular, to identify drivers for the technology's commercialization. To do so we first conducted a comprehensive literature review of business models of existing large-scale CCUS projects. We then collected primary qualitative data through a survey questionnaire and semi-structured interviews with global CCUS experts from industry, academia, government, and consultancies. Our results reveal that the revenue model is the most critical element to building successful CCUS business models, around which the following elements are structured: funding sources, capital & ownership structure, and risk management/allocation. One promising mechanism to subsidize the additional costs associated with the introduction of CCUS to industry is the creation of a 'low-carbon product market', while the creation of clear risk-allocation systems along the full CCUS chain is particularly highlighted. The application of CCUS as an enabling emission reduction technology is further shown to be a factor of consumer and shareholder pressures, pressing environmental standards, ethical resourcing, resource efficiency, and first-mover advantages in an emerging market. This paper addresses the knowledge gap which exists in identifying viable CCUS business models in the industrial sector which, with the exception of a few industry reports, remains poorly explored in the academic literature. Three new thiodiketopiperazines, geospallins A–C (1–3), together with nine known analogues (4–12), were isolated from the culture of the deep-sea sediment-derived fungus Geosmithia pallida FS140. Among them, geospallins A and B (1 and 2) represent rare examples of thiodiketopiperazines featuring an S-methyl group at C-10 and a tertiary hydroxyl group at C-11. Their structures were determined by high-resolution electrospray mass spectrometry (HRESIMS), spectroscopic analyses, and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations. Among them, geospallins A and B ( 1 and 2 ) represent rare examples of thiodiketopiperazines featuring an S-methyl group at C-10 and a tertiary hydroxyl group at C-11. Their structures were determined by high-resolution electrospray mass spectrometry (HRESIMS), spectroscopic analyses, and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations. Their angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity was reported, and geospallins A⁻C ( 1 ⁻ 3 ) showed inhibitory activity with IC 50 values of 29⁻35 µM.
