The marine–continental transitional shale of the Upper Permian Longtan Formation in northern Guizhou is an important source rock in the upper Yangtze region of China, and it holds significant potential for the exploration of shale gas. To investigate the correlation between sedimentary conditions and the accumulation of organic matters in marine–continental transitional shale, this paper performed an extensive analysis using organic geochemical testing, organic petrology examination, a cross-section polisher–scanning electron microscope (CP-SEM), and geochemical analysis. The Jinsha and Dafang drilling cores were selected as the research subjects. The results showed that the TOC of the Longtan Formation in the study area was relatively high, and the TOC content of the tidal flat–lagoon environment (average of 8.37%) was significantly higher than that of the delta samples (average of 2.77%). The high content of Al2O3 (average of 17.41% in DC-1, average of 16.53% in JC-1) indicated strong terrigenous detrital input. The proxies indicated that the Longtan Formation shale in northern Guizhou was deposited in a climate that was both warm and humid, with oxic–dysoxic sedimentary water characterized by high biological productivity and a rapid sedimentation rate. The organic-rich shales during the marine and continental transitional phases were affected by various factors, including the paleo-climate, water redox properties, paleo-productivity, sedimentation rate, and other variables, which directly or indirectly impacted the availability, burial, and preservation of organic matter. The study focuses on the four-strand tundish as the research object, aiming at the phenomenon of fewer strand casting (stable blockage) and sudden blockage of the tundish in industrial production. Numerical simulation methods are employed to compare the velocity vectors, flow fields, residence time distribution (RTD) curves, and outflow percentage curves under stable blockage and sudden blockage of the tundishes with a double-weir structure, U-shaped weir structure, and U-shaped weir structure with holes in the front. The results indicate that, after sudden blockage of the tundish strands, the flow field transitions from an unstable four-strand flow field to a stable three-strand flow field. Both the double-weir tundish and the U-shaped weir tundish reach a stable state after 200 s, while the U-shaped weir tundish with holes in the front reaches stability after 150 s. Additionally, compared to other structures, the tundish strands of the U-shaped weir with holes in the front are less affected by blockage, showing better consistency among strands and better adaptability under non-standard casting conditions. Simple Summary: The gut microbiota plays an active role in gut development and host growth in juvenile ruminants and contributes to their productive performance in adulthood. However, the gut microbiota composition and metabolic profile patterns of succession from birth to weaning of juvenile sika deer remain unclear. Feces are a highly efficient and convenient biological sample that can be used to reflect gut microbiology and metabolomics studies. Based on fecal samples, we demonstrated that the gut bacterial community and metabolic profile of juvenile sika deer were significantly altered at birth compared to the transition and rumination periods, suggesting functional changes in amino acid metabolism and carbohydrate metabolism. Our results revealed the key role of the birth–transition period in the regulation of gut bacterial communities and metabolic functions during juvenile sika deer development. The gut microbiota establishment in young ruminants has a profound impact on their adult production performance. However, the critical phase for the succession of the gut microbial composition and metabolic profiles of juvenile sika deer still needs to be further investigated. Here, we analyzed the fecal microbiota and metabolites of juvenile sika deer during the birth (D1), transition (D42), and rumination (D70) periods based on 16S rRNA sequencing and gas chromatography–time–of–flight mass spectrometry (GC–TOF–MS). The results showed that the fecal bacteria and metabolites composition were significantly different in D1 compared to D42 and D70, and the number of OTUs and the Shannon index were significantly higher in D70 than in D1 (p < 0.05). The relative abundances of Lactobacillus, Lactococcus, and Lachnoclostridium showed a significant increase in D1 compared to D42 and D70, whereas the relative abundances of Ruminococcaceae UCG-005, Ruminococcaceae UCG-010, Ruminococcaceae UCG-014, Christensenellaceae R-7, and Eubacterium coprostanoligenes group were significantly decreased in D1 compared to D42 and D70 (p < 0.05). The amounts of serine, phenylalanine, aspartic acid, ornithine, citrulline, creatine, isoleucine, galactose, and ribose in the feces were significantly higher in D1 compared to D42 and D70. In contrast, the concentrations of cortexolone, resveratrol, piceatannol, fumaric acid, alpha-ketoglutarate, glycerol, uracil-5-carboxylic acid, and maleic acid were significantly decreased in D1. The enrichment analysis showed that amino acid metabolism and carbohydrate metabolism were significantly changed in D1 compared to D42 and D70. The glycine, serine and threonine metabolism; alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism; arginine biosynthesis; glyoxylate and dicarboxylate metabolism; citrate cycle; and pyruvate metabolism were significantly enriched across the three periods (p < 0.05). Background: This study aimed to investigate the geographical distribution of dietary patterns and their association with T2DM among Chinese adults aged 45 years and above. Methods: Data was from the China Adults Chronic Diseases and Nutrition Surveillance (2015). Dietary intake for each participant was determined through a combination of 3-day 24-h dietary recall interviews and food frequency questionnaires. Principal component analysis was used to extract dietary patterns and spatial analysis was employed to investigate the geographic distribution of them. T2DM was diagnosed using criteria of ADA 2018, and binary logistic regression was employed to examine the relationship between dietary patterns and T2DM. Results: A total of 36,648 participants were included in the study; 10.9% of them were diagnosed as T2DM. Three dietary patterns were identified with the name of plant-based pattern, animal-based pattern, and oriental traditional pattern, which were represented located in northern, northwest, and southern regions, respectively. After adjusting for potential confounders, participants in the highest quartile of the plant-based pattern were associated with lower T2DM odds (OR = 0.82, 95% CI: 0.74, 0.90) when comparing with the lowest quartile. However, participants inclined to higher quartiles of animal-based pattern had a higher risk of T2DM (OR = 1.15, 95% CI: 1.04, 1.27) compared with those in the lower quartiles. No significant association was found between the oriental traditional pattern and T2DM (OR = 1.03, 95% CI: 0.93, 1.14). Conclusion: Dietary patterns of Chinese population revealed geographical disparities, with plant-based dietary pattern showing protective effects and animal-based pattern carrying high risks for T2DM. Simple Summary: High density (HD) rearing seriously hinders the healthy development of broilers. Chlorogenic acid, a natural antioxidant food and drug source, may relieve the HD oxidative stress. Therefore, the present study was to investigate the effects of CGA supplementation on growth performance, antioxidant index in serum, relative mRNA expression of jejunum, and cecum microflora of broilers expose to HD stress. A total of 476 7-day-old AA+ broilers were divided into normal density (ND group, 14 broilers/m2) and high density (HD group, 22 broilers/m2), and CGA supplementation (ND or HD + CGA) group. The results showed that HD stress decreased the serum antioxidant capacity, inhibited the development of intestinal villi and the expression of tight junction genes, and thus affected the intestinal permeability during the rapid growth period from 21 to 35 days. Meanwhile, with the progression of HD oxidative stress, adverse changes occurred in intestinal microorganisms, leading to intestinal inflammation, and finally affected the growth performance on day 42. Additionally, dietary CGA can inhibit the oxidative stress from serum to intestinal tract, improve intestinal integrity, and enhance beneficial flora of HD broilers. Thus, dietary supplementations of an antioxidant such as CGA can effectively prevent oxidative stress in HD broilers. Chlorogenic acids (CGA) are widely used as feed additives for their ability to improve growth performance and intestinal health in poultry. However, whether dietary CGAs could reverse the impaired intestinal condition caused by high stocking density (HD) in broiler chickens is unknown. We determined the effect of dietary CGA on growth, serum antioxidant levels, jejunum barrier function, and the microbial community in the cecum of broilers raised under normal (ND) or HD conditions. HD stress significantly decreased growth and body weight, which was restored by CGA. The HD group showed increased serum malondialdehyde, an oxidative byproduct, and decreased SOD and GSH-Px activity. CGA reduced malondialdehyde and restored antioxidant enzyme activity. HD stress also significantly decreased jejunal villus length and increased crypt depth. Compared with ND, the expression of tight-junction genes was significantly decreased in the HD group, but this decrease was reversed by CGA. HD also significantly upregulated TNF-α. Compared with ND, the cecal microbiota in the HD group showed lower alpha diversity with increases in the harmful bacteria Turicibacter and Shigella. This change was altered in the HD + CGA group, with enrichment of Blautia, Akkermansia, and other beneficial bacteria. These results demonstrated that HD stress decreased serum antioxidant capacity, inhibited the development of jejunal villi, and downregulated expression of tight-junction genes, which increased intestinal permeability during the rapid growth period (21 to 35 days). The present study was conducted to investigate the nutrition status of dietary patterns and the association between dietary patterns and the risk of poor glycemic control in Chinese diabetics. The relevant data was collected from the China Nutrition and Health Surveillance 2015–2017 survey, which is a national cross-sectional surveillance program. A total of 2031 participants were included in the present statistical analysis. Food consumption was assessed through a validated and standard food frequency questionnaire. Dietary patterns were derived with reduced rank regression using hemoglobin A1c. Diabetes was diagnosed by medical institutions, glycemic control was defined as hemoglobin A1c less than 7%, poor glycemic control was defined as hemoglobin A1c greater than 7%. A multiple-variable-adjusted logistic regression, including age, living area, income level, educational attainment, body mass index, occupational physical activity, energy intake, current smoking status, current drinking status, diabetic medication use, insulin use, following diabetic diets, increased exercise, and glucose monitoring, was adjusted to explore the association between dietary patterns and the risk of poor glycemic control in diabetes. Two gender-specific dietary patterns have an increased risk of poor glycemic control and are characterized by a low intake of freshwater fish, poultry, and fruits. For male participants, the dietary pattern was characterized by a high intake of wheat and its products, a low intake of vegetables, corn and its products, shrimp and crab, and beans (Q4 vs. Q1, OR = 2.69, 95% CI: 1.76 to 4.10). The prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) increased dramatically over the past years among adults in a separate province in China; little is known about newly diagnosed MetS in middle-aged and above residents nationwide. We investigated the prevalence of MetS and its components, the dietary patterns, and their relationship among the middle-aged and above population of China by using data from a national cross-sectional survey. General information involving lifestyles and health stations was collected, and dietary intake using a 3-day 24 h dietary recall and weighing method for edible oil and condiments was conducted. Height, weight, waist circumference, and blood pressure were measured, and fasting serum lipids and glucose were tested by trained clinical staff. Dietary patterns were derived from 23 food categories by using cluster analysis, and a multivariate logistic regression model was used to evaluate the odd ratio of MetS and its component across obtained dietary patterns. The estimated prevalence of MetS was 37.1% among 40,909 middle-aged and older participants in the study. Participants were classified into diversity pattern, northern pattern, and southern pattern that, respectively, accounted for 9.8%, 47.2%, and 43.0% of the total. Compared with those inclined to the northern pattern, participants prone to the southern pattern decreased the risk of MetS (OR = 0.81, 95%CI: 0.75- 0.87; p < 0.001), central obesity (OR = 0.70, 95%CI: 0.65–0.76; p < 0.001), and HDL-C (OR = 0.82, 95%CI: 0.76–0.89; p < 0.001), and elevated BP (OR = 0.86, 95%CI: 0.79–0.93; p < 0.001) respectively. However, participants of the southern pattern tended to have a higher risk of elevated glucose; the OR (95%CI) was 1.13 (1.05, 1.22; p = 0.002) after adjusting for potential confounding factors. Greater adherence to diverse dietary patterns was negatively related to the risk of central obesity and elevated blood pressure with an OR (95%CI) of 0.82 (0.71, 0.94; p = 0.005) and 0.77 (0.67, 0.88; p < 0.001), respectively. We concluded that dietary improvement and health promotion for MetS should be based on the district-specific nutritional status of the Chinese middle-aged and elderly population. In recent years, China has initiated cooperation between schools and enterprises in practical education. Accordingly, scholars have explored how universities and students benefit from this program. This article aims to investigate how students' engagement in industry-education integration internships will influence their attitudes and behaviors in their daily lives. To examine our hypotheses, we distributed our questionnaires to 201 university students in China. Correlation analysis, regression analysis, and bootstrap method were adopted to analyze the data. The results show that students' engagement in the internship of environmental protection enterprises will influence their purchase intention of energy-efficient products via their environmental concerns. Moreover, students' social value moderates the relationship between environmental concern and purchase intention of energy-efficient products and the indirect relationship. The industry–education integration platform itself is an ecosystem composed of multiple subjects, and its effective governance cannot be separated from contract management. Platform operation requires efforts to overcome institutional transaction costs and clarify the distribution of benefits among cooperative subjects. Each cooperative subject displays cooperative behavior with consistent organizational goals, which contributes to effective platform regulation reaching a steady state. Therefore, the industry–education integration platform ecosystem involves key elements such as contracts, transaction costs, property rights definition, cooperative behavior, and stability within the ecosystem. Thus, this paper takes the context of the integration of industry and education in China and innovatively proposes an evaluation index system for the governance of the ecosystem of the industry–education integration platform. Then, this paper takes the 14 industry–education integration platforms in China as an example. The grey correlation method was applied to the obtained sample data, which overcame the deficiency of sample evaluation with little data and poor information. Subjective and objective index weight assignment methods are used to improve the scientific and rational nature of the model evaluation. Finally, to improve the governance level of the ecosystem of the industry–education integration platform, new references are provided in four aspects: establishing a flawless mechanism of the platform contract, protecting the rights and interests of platform-related subjects, improving the protection and development mechanism of resources, and exploring the outsourcing of educational services. Simple Summary: Immune stress and high stocking density stress are two major concerns in poultry production, as they can greatly impair the productive and reproductive performance of chickens with serious economic consequences. Chlorogenic acid has been widely used as a feed additive in poultry production due to its potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral activities. This study aimed to investigate the effects of dietary chlorogenic acid supplementation on growth performance, antioxidant function, and immune response in broiler breeders exposed to immune stress and high stocking density stress. Our study highlights that chlorogenic acid increased feed intake, downregulated serum corticosterone levels, and altered the immune and antioxidant functions of broiler breeders exposed to immune stress or high stocking density stress. Dietary inclusion of 1 g/kg chlorogenic acid could be used to increase feed intake of broiler breeders and alleviate the effects of immune stress and exposure to high stocking density in poultry. The study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary chlorogenic acid supplementation on the growth performance, antioxidant function, and immune response of broiler breeders exposed to immune stress or high stocking density stress. The test was divided into two stress models. For the immune stress test, 198 birds were distributed into three experimental treatments with six replicates per treatment. The treatments were: (1) saline control (birds injected with saline and fed basal diet), (2) LPS group (birds injected with 0.5 mg LPS/kg body weight and fed basal diet), and (3) CGA + LPS group (birds injected with LPS and fed basal diet supplemented with 1 g/kg CGA. LPS was intraperitoneally injected from day 14, and then daily for 10 days. For the high stocking density stress model, 174 birds were distributed into three experimental treatments with six replicates per treatment. The treatments were: (1) controls (birds fed basal diet and raised at a stocking density of 14 broilers per m2), (2) high-density group (birds fed with basal diet and raised at a stocking density of 22 broilers per m2), and (3) high density + CGA group (birds fed with 1 g/kg CGA and raised at a stocking density of 22 broilers per m2). Results showed that LPS injection and high stocking density significantly decreased the body weight and feed intake of broiler breeders, while CGA supplementation increased feed intake of broiler breeders under LPS injection and high stocking density stress. Moreover, LPS injection and high stocking density increased the concentration of corticosterone in serum, and CGA addition remarkably downregulated serum corticosterone levels. The GSH level decreased with LPS injection and CGA increased the GSH concentration in the intestines of immune-stressed broiler breeders. LPS injection promoted the production of circulating proinflammatory cytokines (serum IL-1β and TNF-α) by 72 h after LPS injection. Dietary supplementation with CGA prevented the increase in serum TNF-α caused by LPS. These results suggest that dietary inclusion of 1 g/kg CGA could increase the feed intake of broiler breeders and alleviate the effects of inflammatory mediator stress and exposure to high stocking density. This study was conducted to evaluate the potential causality association of SOCS3 methylation with abdominal obesity using Mendelian randomization. A case–control study, including 1064 participants, was carried out on Chinese subjects aged 18 to 79. MethylTargetTM was used to detect the methylation level for each CpG site of SOCS3, and SNPscan® was applied to measure the single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping. The logistic regression was used to assess the relationship of SOCS3 methylation level and SNP genotyping with abdominal obesity. Three types of Mendelian randomization methods were implemented to examine the potential causality between SOCS3 methylation and obesity based on the SNP of SOCS3 as instrumental variables. SOCS3 methylation levels were inversely associated with abdominal obesity in five CpG sites (effect estimates ranged from 0.786 (Chr17:76356054) to 0.851 (Chr17:76356084)), and demonstrated positively association in 18 CpG sites (effect estimates ranged from 1.243 (Chr17:76354990) to 1.325 (Chr17:76355061)). The causal relationship between SOCS3 methylation and abdominal obesity was found using the maximum-likelihood method and Mendelian randomization method of penalized inverse variance weighted (MR-IVW), and the β values (95% CI) were 5.342 (0.215, 10.469) and 4.911 (0.259, 9.564), respectively. The flow field, tracer dispersion and uniformity of strands in two designs of four-strand tun-dishes under normal conditions and single-strand blockage conditions are studied by numerical simulation. The casting speed (flow rate) of strands are increasing uniformly or non-uniformly to improve the strand blockage condition. The uniformity of strands of the cases are evaluated by a novel outflow percentage analysis method. The results show that the flow field in the tundish does not change significantly when the single-strand is blocked or the casting flow rate is increased. After blockage of one strand, the consistency of each strand of u-shaped weir tundish is better than that of double-weir tundish. With the uniform increasing of the casting flow rate, the response time of each strand decreases and the outflow percentage increases. However, the uniformity of strands improved slightly in double-weir tundish but decreased in u-shaped tundish. For the double-weir tundish, significantly increasing the casting flow rate of the strand located in the blocked part by a factor of 1.5 and slightly increasing the casting flow rate of the other strands by a factor of 1.25, the consistency of each strand is the best. For the u-shaped weir tundish, the consistency of each strand is improved by non-uniform increasing of the casting flow rate of the strands. The flow rate of the strand located in the blocked part and the other strands is increased by a factor of 1.25, and 1.375 or 1.2 and 1.4 are the optimized cases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to explore the association between dietary BCAAs, blood lipid levels and risk of dyslipidemia. In this case–control study, a total of 9541 subjects with normal blood lipids were included as a control group, and 9792 patients with dyslipidemia were included as a case group. Dietary BCAA intake data were measured using 3-day 24 h meal recalls and household condiment weighing. All samples were from China Nutrition and Health Surveillance (2015). Generalized linear model, logistic regression, and restricted cubic spline (RCS) were used to evaluate the relationship between dietary BCAAs, blood lipids and dyslipidemia. After adjusting for confounding factors, dietary BCAAs were positively correlated with TC and LDL-C (p < 0.05). Higher dietary BCAAs were associated with higher OR for Hypercholesteremia (Q4 vs. Q1, OR = 1.29, 95% CI: 1.05–1.58, p-trend = 0.034). The ORs of Hyper-LDL-cholesterolemia showed inverted U-shaped with increasing dietary BCAAs (Q3 vs. Q1, OR = 1.20, 95% CI: 1.03–1.39; Q2 vs. Q1, OR = 1.05, 95% CI: 1.01–1.31). The relationship between dietary BCAAs and the risk of Hypercholesteremia and Hyper-LDL-cholesterolemia were both nonlinear (p nonlinearity = 0.0059, 0.0198). This study aimed to assess the association of dietary fiber intake with serum uric acid (SUA) levels and risk of hyperuricemia (HUA) among Chinese adults using the latest nationally representative data. A total of 66,427 Chinese adults aged 18 years and over from the China Adult Chronic Disease and Nutrition Surveillance in 2015 were included in this study. Dietary intakes were measured with a 3-day 24 h dietary recall and the household condiment weighing method. Mixed-effect linear and logistic regression models were used to evaluate the associations of dietary fiber intake with SUA levels and risk of HUA, respectively. Compared to the lowest intake group, the coefficient and 95% confidence in the highest intake group of total fiber were −0.06 (−0.08, −0.04) (p-trend < 0.001), −0.18 (−0.2, −0.16) (p-trend < 0.001) for cereal fiber, 0.03 (0.01, 0.04) (p-trend = 0.051) for legume fiber, 0 (−0.01, 0.02) (p-trend = 0.869) for vegetable fiber and 0.01 (−0.001, 0.04) (p-trend = 0.296) for fruit fiber. The odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of HUA for the highest vs. lowest intake group of total fiber were 0.88 (0.84, 0.91) (p-trend = 0.001), 0.67 (0.63, 0.71) (p-trend < 0.001) for cereal fiber, 1.05 (1, 1.09) (p-trend = 0.248) for legume fiber, 1.01 (0.97, 1.05) (p-trend = 0.982) for vegetable fiber and 1.06 (1, 1.12) (p-trend = 0.264) for fruit fiber. Our findings suggest that consumption of total fiber and cereal fiber were significantly inversely associated with SUA levels and HUA risk among the Chinese adult population. Magnesium is an essential element and participates in many metabolic pathways. Inadequate magnesium levels may lead to various health problems such as type 2 diabetes (T2DM), hypertension, and cancer. But the role of Mg in childbearing women of China is still a relatively narrow researched field. We aimed to assess the Mg nutritional status, explore the risk factors of Mg deficiency, and the associations between Mg and glucose parameters among childbearing women in a nationally representative sample. A total of 1895 18–44 years childbearing women were recruited from the China Adult Chronic Disease and Nutrition Surveillance (2015). Multivariate logistic regression was used to explore the risk factors for Mg deficiency and estimate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) for the risk of hyperglycemia. The mean value of Mg was 0.87 mmol/L and the prevalence of deficiency was 4.69%. The risk factors of Mg deficiency (Mg < 0.75 mmol/L) was city-type of rural (p = 0.045), while calcium (p = 0.001), LDL-C (p = 0.024), age group of 26–35 years (p = 0.016), 36–44 years (p = 0.006), and CNNM2 rs3740393 genotypes of GC (p = 0.027) were protective factors. It was also found that magnesium deficiency induces an increase in plasma glucose (p = 0.001). Compared with the reference range, Mg < 0.75 mmol/L would have a 6.53 fold risk for T2DM, a 5.31 fold risk for glucose-hyperglycemia, and a 9.60 fold risk for HbA1c-hyperglycemia. Consistently, there was a negative association between plasma Mg and blood glucose parameters in the dose–response study. We aimed to investigate the association between dietary patterns and low HDL-C among the elderly population living in North China. The data were from a national cross-sectional survey conducted in 2015. General information in terms of living habits, health status, and food intake using 24 h dietary recall for three consecutive days was procured, and the weight of edible oil and condiments recorded. Anthropometric index, blood pressure, and fasting serum lipids were measured using standard methods. Dietary patterns were derived from food categories by exploratory factor analysis, and multivariate logistic regression was used to estimate the odds ratios of low HDL-C across quartiles of dietary patterns. Among 3387 elderly participants, 21.9% had low HDL-C levels. After adjusting for potential confounding factors, participants with highest score versus lowest score in the balanced dietary pattern had a decreased risk of low HDL-C (OR = 0.38, 95% CI: 0.16–0.88, p for trend = 0.013) in the group with a BMI of 27.1 kg/m2 and above. Compared to the lowest quartile, there was a statistically significant negative association between the highest scores of the Western dietary pattern and low HDL-C (OR = 0.37, 95% CI: 0.17–0.82, p for trend = 0.018) in the group with a BMI of 21.6–24.8 kg/m2. However, greater adherence to a thrifty dietary pattern (highest quartiles vs. lowest quartiles) was associated with increased risk of low HDL-C (OR = 3.31, 95% CI: 1.05–10.40, p for trend = 0.044), especially in the subgroup with a BMI of 21.6 kg/m2 and below. The study revealed that it is urgent to develop district-specific dietary improvement plans for dyslipidemia based on the nutritional status of the elderly population in North China. Background: Copper and zinc are both essential elements in humans, that play various biological roles in body functions. Population-based reference values have not yet been established in China especially in childbearing women. The aim of this study is to establish a reference value of Zn, Cu and Cu/Zn ratios in childbearing women aged 18–44 from a representative population in China. Method: A total of 191 healthy childbearing women aged 18–44 years old were enrolled from the China Adult Chronic Disease and Nutrition Surveillance (2015) in this study with a series strict inclusion criteria. Basic biological indicators (weight, height, waist, blood pressure, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, total cholesterol, triglyceride, fast glycose, HbA1c, blood pressure, uric acid) and elements levels in plasma and whole blood were collected. The 2.5th to 97.5th was used to represent the reference range of Cu, Zn and Cu/Zn ratio. Results: The reference range of Zn, Cu and Cu/Zn ratio in plasma were 70.46–177.53 µg/dL, 74.30–170.68 µg/dL and 0.54–1.68, respectively. The reference range of Zn, Cu and Cu/Zn ratios in whole blood were 402.49–738.05, 74.63–124.52 and 0.13–0.25 µg/dL, respectively. Conclusion: The reference range of Zn, Cu and Cu/Zn ratios in plasma and whole blood of healthy Chinese childbearing women could be used as an indicator to evaluate the status of element deficiency and overload. Recent studies on whether dairy consumption is associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have yielded inconsistent results, so we explored the relationship between dairy consumption and T2DM through a large-sample, cross-sectional study and a meta-analysis. In the meta-analysis, summary relative risks (RRs) of 23 articles were compiled with a random effects model, and a restricted cubic spline regression model was used to explore whether there is a nonlinear relationship between dairy intake and T2DM risk. This cross-sectional study used baseline data from 38,735 participants of the Henan Rural Cohort study and the association between dairy consumption and T2DM was analyzed by a logistic regression model. The meta-analysis revealed a borderline negative significant association between total dairy intake and risk of T2DM, the RR and 95% confidence interval (CI) was 0.94; (0.89, 1.00), and the risk was lowest at 270 g daily dairy intake. In the cross-sectional study, there were 3654 T2DM patients and 68.3 percent of the respondents had no dairy intake. The average intake of dairy in the total population was 12 g per day. Fully adjusted analyses suggested positive associations, with an odds ratio (OR) comparing the highest with the zero intake of 1.34 (95% CI: 1.22, 1.48) for all participants, which was unaffected by sex. Dairy intake in rural areas of Henan province is low, and we found, in the context of overall low dairy intake, that a high intake was positively associated with T2DM, which is inconsistent with the meta-analysis results suggesting that dairy has marginal protective effects against T2DM. Background: Elevated ferritin, which is often used to represent iron storage, is known to increase the risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS) or its components, but its increase is affected by many factors. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the relationship between other indicators of iron storage, and MetS and its components in order to fully understand the role of iron in the occurrence and development of these diseases. Although there are many studies to analyze the relationship involved in adults and adolescents, in children there is limited research. In this study, we aim to estimate the association of whole blood iron, ferritin, and total body iron with metabolic syndrome, and especially its components in Chinese rural children aged 6–12 years old. Method: A total of 1333 children aged 6–12 years old were enrolled from the 2010–2012 China National Nutrition and Health Survey in this study. Markers of iron storage (whole blood iron, ferritin, and total body iron (TBI)) and MetS component parameters (waist, blood pressure, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), triglyceride (TG), and fast glycose) were collected. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to confirm the independent relationship between iron storage markers, and the incident of metabolic syndrome and its components. Results: After adjusting for age, gender, C-reactive protein (CRP), and body mass index (BMI), a negative association was found between whole blood iron, ferritin, and TBI and incidence of reduced HDL-C (odds ratio (OR) = 0.63, 0.49, and 0.57, respectively). The highest tertile of whole blood iron increased the risk of the incidence of hyperglycemia (OR = 1.74), while TBI decreased the risk by 61%. No significant association was found between ferritin tertiles and the incidence of hyperglycemia. Conclusion: An iron storage level within the normal range in children is associated with a risk of MetS components, especially in hyperglycemia and reduced HDL-C. The relationship between the three iron indexes and metabolic syndrome and its components is not completely consistent, which suggests that the underlying mechanism is complex and needs to be further explored. The relationship between dietary protein consumption and the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D) has been inconsistent. The aim of this meta-analysis was to explore the relations between dietary protein consumption and the risk of T2D. We conducted systematic retrieval of prospective studies in PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science. Summary relative risks were compiled with a fixed effects model or a random effects model, and a restricted cubic spline regression model and generalized least squares analysis were used to evaluate the diet–T2D incidence relationship. T2D risk increased with increasing consumption of total protein and animal protein, red meat, processed meat, milk, and eggs, respectively, while plant protein and yogurt had an inverse relationship. A non-linear association with the risk for T2D was found for the consumption of plant protein, processed meat, milk, yogurt, and soy. This meta-analysis suggests that substitution of plant protein and yogurt for animal protein, especially red meat and processed meat, can reduce the risk for T2D. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Forests have potential economic value and play a significant role in maintaining ecological balance. Considering its outdated and incomplete forest statistics, the Kyrgyzstan Republic urgently needs a forest cover map for assessing its current forest resources and assisting national policies on improving rural livelihood and sustainability. This study adopted a hybrid fusion strategy to develop a forest cover map for the Kyrgyzstan Republic with improved accuracy. The fusion strategy uses the merits of the GlobeLand30 in 2010 and the USGS TreeCover2010, the benefits of auxiliary geographic information, and the advantages of the stacking learning method in classification. Additionally, we explored the influence of different forest definitions, based on the tree cover percentage value in the USGS TreeCover2010, on the accuracy of forest cover. Results suggested that the accuracy of our model can be improved significantly by including auxiliary geographic features and feeding the optimal size of training samples. Thereafter, using our model, forest cover maps were derived at different tree cover threshold values in the USGS TreeCover2010. Importantly, the forest cover map at the tree cover threshold value of 40% was determined as the most accurate one with the kappa value of 0.89, whose spatial extent constitutes about 2.4% of the entire territory. This estimated forest cover percentage suggests a low estimation of forest resources based on rigorous definition, which can be valuable for reviewing and amending the current national forest policies.
