This report presents the case of an ice hockey player diagnosed with a tear in the anterior horn of the lateral meniscus at 19 years of age. In addition, we suggest a rehabilitation exercise program that enabled an early return to play for an ice hockey athlete in a university sports league. The patient underwent arthroscopic meniscal repair and was discharged one day after surgery. A three-stage rehabilitation program was developed, as follows: Phase I, the protective phase (reduce inflammation symptoms and restore range of motion to enable weight-bearing); Phase II, the restorative phase (improve the strength of the quadriceps muscle and recover cardiovascular endurance); Phase III, the return to full functional activity (familiarize the patient with sport-specific skills and recover a symmetric functional level on both sides). After completing the 10-week rehabilitation program, the patient returned to play and took part in games 71 and 84 days after surgery. The patient had no meniscus reinjury in the 10 years after surgery while playing in university and professional ice hockey leagues. The functional performance-focused rehabilitation program presented in this case report resulted in an early return to sport and good long-term outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This review aimed to investigate the effects of exercise and exercise with joint mobilization on shoulder range of motion (ROM) and subjective symptom recovery in patients with adhesive capsulitis (AC). Related Studies published from 2000 to 2021 that were peer-reviewed and for which pre-and post-values could be calculated were extracted from PubMed, CINAHL, SPORTDiscus, and Web of Science. Nine studies met our inclusion criteria. As a result of calculating the standard mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CI), both exercise and exercise with joint mobilization showed a large effect on shoulder ROM and subjective outcomes. The combination showed a more significant effect than exercise alone on shoulder flexion (SMD = −1.59 [−2.34, −0.65]), extension (SMD = −1.47 [−2.05, −0.89]), internal rotation (SMD = −1.77 [−2.17, −1.36], external rotation (SMD = −2.18 [−2.92, −1.44]), and abduction ROM (SMD = −1.99 [CI −3.86, −0.12]). Patients who performed exercise alone showed a higher effect of improvement in subjective function (SMD = 3.15 [2.06, 4.24]) and pain (SMD = 4.13 [1.86, 6.41]). Based on these results, an AC rehabilitation exercise program should be developed by adjusting the amount of exercise and joint mobilization by identifying the patient's needs, subjective symptoms, and ROM. The evaporation of chemicals in applied chemical products such as cleaning products and paint has been evaluated using the evaporation mode of the ConsExpo model. However, it remains controversial whether the ConsExpo model can be used for non-applied chemical products such as air fresheners, because the ConsExpo model assumes that the mass of the non-applied chemical products does not change during the time of use. If most of the materials in the product are volatile, the product mass can decrease. To explain the effect of a change in product mass, the 'Chemical Product Evaporation Model (CPEM)' was developed. This study demonstrated that the product mass decreases linearly when the surface area of the product is invariant, theoretically and experimentally. It was found that the ConsExpo evaporation model can be applied to products in which the other materials do not evaporate, and the CPEM can be applied to products in which the other materials are volatile. If the target substance in a product evaporates completely before the exhaustion time, the average concentration of a target substance in the air can be estimated simply from its initial concentration in the product and the product mass reduction rate. Featured Application: In the field of exposure science, an approach for exposure evaluation using CFD was found that complements the shortcomings of the conventional methodology, the zero-dimensional spray model and measurement method. Consumer products contain chemical substances that threaten human health. The zero-dimensional modeling methods and experimental methods have been used to estimate the inhalation exposure concentration of consumer products. The model and measurement methods have a spatial property problem and time/cost-consuming problem, respectively. For solving the problems due to the conventional methodology, this study investigated the feasibility of applying computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for the evaluation of inhalation exposure by comparing the experiment results and the zero-dimensional results with CFD results. To calculate the aerosol concentration, the CFD was performed by combined the 3D Reynolds averaged Navier–Stokes equations and a discrete phased model using ANSYS FLUENT. As a result of comparing the three methodologies performed under the same simulation/experimental conditions, we found that the zero-dimensional spray model shows an approximately five times underestimated inhalation exposure concentration when compared with the CFD results and measurement results in near field. Additionally, the results of the measured concentration of aerosols at five locations and the CFD results at the same location were compared to show the possibility of evaluating inhalation exposure at various locations using CFD instead of the experimental method. The CFD results according to measurement positions can rationally predict the measurement results with low error. In conclusion, in the field of exposure science, a guideline for exposure evaluation using CFD, was found that complements the shortcomings of the conventional methodology, the zero-dimensional spray model and measurement method. Commercially available low-cost air quality sensors have low accuracy. The improved accuracy of low-cost PM2.5 sensors allows the use of low-cost sensor systems to reasonably investigate PM2.5 emissions from industrial activities or to accurately estimate individual exposure to PM2.5. In this work, we developed a new PM2.5 calibration model (HybridLSTM) by combining a deep neural network (DNN) optimized in calibration problems and a long short-term memory (LSTM) neural network optimized in time-dependent characteristics to improve the performance of conventional calibration algorithms of low-cost PM sensors. The PM2.5 concentrations, temperature and humidity by low-cost sensors and gravimetric-based PM2.5 measuring instrument were sampled for a sufficiently long time. The proposed model was compared with benchmarks (multiple linear regression model (MLR), DNN model) and low-cost sensor results. The gravimetric measurements were used as reference data to evaluate sensor accuracy. For root-mean-square error (RMSE) for PM2.5 concentrations, the proposed model reduced 41–60% of error when compared with the raw data of low-cost sensors, reduced 30–51% of error when compared with the MLR model and reduced 8–40% of error when compared with the MLR model. R2 of HybridLSTM, DNN, MLR and raw data were 93, 90, 80 and 59%, respectively. HybridLSTM showed the state-of-the-art calibration performance for a low-cost PM sensor. The purpose of this work is to quantify the effects of dissolved zinc cations on corrosion and release rates from a pre-filmed Alloy 690 steam generator tubing material that was subsequently exposed to water containing zinc. The corrosion tests were performed in circulating 2 ppm Li and 1000 ppm B water without and with 60 ppb zinc at 330 °C. Gravimetric analyses and oxide characterization revealed that the corrosion rates, release rates, and oxide thicknesses decreased by subsequent exposure of the pre-filmed Alloy 690 to zinc. Ethanolamine (ETA) is widely used to control the pH value in the secondary water of pressurized water reactors. However, it is necessary to consider other advanced amines which can replace ETA due to its serious human hazards and environmental treatment problems. The purpose of this study is to contemplate the effects of three advanced amines (ETA, 3-methoxypropylamine (MPA), and dimethylamine (DMA)) on the magnetite deposition behavior of a thermally treated (TT) Alloy 690 tubes by using a steam generator (SG) tube fouling loop in simulated secondary water. All particles were identified as a magnetite and were polyhedral or spherical in shape. When using ETA, MPA, and DMA, the average porosity of the deposits was about 34.7%, 33.0%, and 24.6%, respectively. The amount of deposits was largest when ETA was added, and it decreased by 41% when adding MPA and 55% when adding DMA. The mechanism of magnetite deposition was discussed in terms of zeta potentials of both the magnetite particles and the Alloy 690TT surface and magnetite solubility depending on the amines. To compare the potential for replacing ETA with other advanced amines, the various factors such as SG integrity, human hazards, and environmental treatment problems were discussed. The electrolytic reduction of a spent oxide fuel involves the liberation of oxygen in a molten salt LiCl–Li2O electrolyte, which creates a corrosive environment for typical structural materials. In this study, the corrosion behaviors of Al–Y-coated specimens in a Li molten salt kept under an oxidizing atmosphere at 650 °C for 72 and 168 h were investigated. The weight loss fraction of the coated specimen to bare specimen was approximately 60% for 3% Li2O and 54% for 8% Li2O at 72 h, and approximately 38% for 3% Li2O and 30% for 8% Li2O at 168 h. Corrosion was induced in the LiCl–Li2O molten salt by the basic oxide ion O2− via the basic flux mechanism, and the corrosion product was found to be dependent on the activity of the O2− ion. The increase in weight loss may have been caused by the increase in the O2− concentration due to the increase in the Li2O concentration rather than being because of the increased reaction time. The Al–Y coating was found to be beneficial for hot corrosion resistance, which can be useful for handling high-temperature lithium molten salt under an oxidizing atmosphere. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The effects of magnetite on the corrosion behavior of SA508 were studied in 10% and 20% EDTA-based chemical cleaning solutions at 93 °C and 121 °C using electrochemical and immersion tests. SA508 was the anode of the galvanic pair between SA508 and magnetite. The galvanic coupling shifted the mixed corrosion potential of SA508 in the positive direction and thus increased its corrosion rate. The increase of the EDTA concentration and solution temperature led to an increase in the extent of the galvanic effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Methylmercury is well known for causing adverse health effects in the brain and nervous system. Estimating the elimination constant derived from the biological half-life of methylmercury in the blood or hair is an important part of calculating guidelines for methylmercury intake. Thus, this study was conducted to estimate the biological half-life of methylmercury in Korean adults. We used a one-compartment model with a direct relationship between methylmercury concentrations in the blood and daily dietary intake of methylmercury. We quantified the between-person variability of the methylmercury half-life in the population, and informative priors were used to estimate the parameters in the model. The population half-life of methylmercury was estimated to be 80.2 ± 8.6 days. The population mean of the methylmercury half-life was 81.6 ± 8.4 days for men and 78.9 ± 8.6 days for women. The standard deviation of the half-life was estimated at 25.0 ± 8.6 days. Using the direct relationship between methylmercury concentrations in blood and methylmercury intake, the biological half-life in this study was estimated to be longer than indicated by the earlier studies that have been used to set guideline values.
