The objective of 3D hand pose estimation (HPE) based on depth images is to accurately locate and predict keypoints of the hand. However, this task remains challenging because of the variations in hand appearance from different viewpoints and severe occlusions. To effectively address these challenges, this study introduces a novel approach, called the multi-perspective cue-aware joint relationship representation for 3D HPE via the Swin Transformer (MPCTrans, for short). This approach is designed to learn multi-perspective cues and essential information from hand depth images. To achieve this goal, three novel modules are proposed to utilize features from multiple virtual views of the hand, namely, the adaptive virtual multi-viewpoint (AVM), hierarchy feature estimation (HFE), and virtual viewpoint evaluation (VVE) modules. The AVM module adaptively adjusts the angles of the virtual viewpoint and learns the ideal virtual viewpoint to generate informative multiple virtual views. The HFE module estimates hand keypoints through hierarchical feature extraction. The VVE module evaluates virtual viewpoints by using chained high-level functions from the HFE module. Transformer is used as a backbone to extract the long-range semantic joint relationships in hand depth images. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the MPCTrans model achieves state-of-the-art performance on four challenging benchmark datasets.

The trithorax group (TrxG) complex is an important protein in the regulation of plant histone methylation. The ABSENT, SMALL, OR HOMEOTIC DISCS 1 (ASH1) gene family, as important family members of the TrxG complex, has been shown to regulate tolerance to abiotic stress and growth and development in many plants. In this study, we identified nine GhASH1s in upland cotton. Bioinformatics analysis revealed that GhASH1s contain a variety of cis-acting elements related to stress resistance and growth and development. The transcriptome expression profiles revealed that GhASHH1.A and GhASHH2.A genes expression were upregulated in flower organs and in response to external temperature stress. The results of virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) indicated that GhASHH1.A and GhASHH2.A genes silencing reduced the ability of cotton to adapt to temperature stress and delayed the development of the flowering phenotype. We also showed that the silencing of these two target genes did not induce early flowering at high temperature (32 °C), suggesting that GhASHH1.A and GhASHH2.A might regulate cotton flowering in response to temperature. These findings provide genetic resources for future breeding of early-maturing and temperature-stress-tolerant cotton varieties.

Classical frequency-stabilized lasers have achieved high-frequency stability and reproducibility; however, their extensive wavelength spacing limits their utility in various scenarios. This study introduces a novel frequency-stabilized laser scheme that integrates a Fabry-Perot etalon (FPE) with digital control technology and wavelength modulation techniques. The FPE, characterized by multiple transmission peaks at minimal frequency intervals, provides stable frequency references for different lasers, thereby enhancing the system's flexibility and adaptability. An error signal is derived from the first-order differentiation of the FPE's transmission curve. A 180° phase difference was observed in the feedback output signal when the laser's central frequency diverged from the reference, determining that the direction of the frequency control was accordingly determined.Employing feedback control, the laser's output frequency is stabilized at the transmission peak frequency of the FPE. Experimental results demonstrate that this stabilization scheme effectively locks the laser's output wavelength to different transmission peak frequencies of the FPE, achieving 25 GHz wavelength spacing. The frequency stability is improved by two orders of magnitude on a second-level timescale, maintained within hundreds of kHz, equating to a frequency stability level of 10 -10 .

Carbon fiber reinforced polypropylene (CF/PP) thermoplastics integrate the superior formability of fabrics with the recoverable characteristics of polypropylene, making them a pivotal solution for achieving lightweight designs in new energy vehicles. However, the prevailing methodologies for designing the structural performance of CF/PP vehicular components often omit the constraints imposed by the manufacturing process, thereby compromising product quality and reliability. This research presents a novel approach for developing a stamping-bending coupled finite element model (FEM) utilizing ABAQUS/Explicit. Initially, the hot stamping simulation is implemented, followed by the transmission of stamping information, including fiber yarn orientation and fiber yarn angle, to the follow-up step for updating the material properties of the cured specimen. Then, the structural performance analysis is conducted, accounting for the stamping effects. Furthermore, the parametric study reveals that the shape and length of the blank holding ring exerted minimal influence on the maximum fiber angle characteristic. However, it is noted that the energy absorption and crushing force efficiency metrics of the CF/PP specimens can be enhanced by increasing the length of the blank holding ring. Finally, a discrete optimization design is implemented to enhance the bending performance of the CF/PP specimen, accounting for the constraint of the maximum shear angle resulting from the stamping process. The optimized design resulted in a mass reduction of 14.3% and an improvement in specific energy absorption ( SEA ) by 17.5% compared to the baseline sample.

In this study, sodium alginate (SA) aerogel cross-linked with Ca 2+ was selected as the basic skeleton to construct a lightweight, flame retardant, and thermal insulating composite aerogel via modification with melamine and phytic acid. The resulting aerogel, SA-1.0 MP, achieved a thermal conductivity as low as 0.0379 W/(m·K). Compared to pristine SA aerogel, SA-1.0 MP demonstrated improved fire resistance, evidenced by a substantial increase in the limiting oxygen index (LOI) from 21.5% to 48.8% and a V-0 rating in the UL-94 test. Furthermore, a synergistic mechanism was proposed to explain its remarkable flame-retardant capability.

Robotic grasping is a common operation scenario in industry and agriculture, in which the force sensing function is a significant factor to achieve reliable grasping. Existing force sensing methods of flexible grippers require intelligent materials or force sensors embedded in the flexible gripper, which causes such problems of higher manufacturing requirements and contact surface properties changing. In this paper, a novel rope-driven force sensing flexible gripper is designed based on the fin-shaped gripper structure, which can realize the grasping sensing functions of contact nodes and contact forces without the need for force sensors. Firstly, the rope-driven force sensing flexible gripper is designed, including the driving unit, the transmission part, the gripper unit, and the force sensing unit. The force sensing unit and the gripper unit are connected by rope, and the prototype of the rope-driven force sensing flexible gripper is completed. Secondly, a force sensing algorithm and control system based on finite element method and grasping geometric relationship are designed to realize the rope-driven force sensing flexible gripper grasping control and sensor data acquisition and processing. Finally, the experimental system of the rope-driven force sensing flexible gripper is built, and the grasping experimental tests of objects with different diameters and different contact nodes are carried out to verify the force sensing function of the rope-driven force sensing flexible gripper. The force sensing flexible gripper designed in this paper can provide a new idea for the design and force sensing method of intelligent robotic grasping system in robotic teaching, scientific research, and industrial applications.

This study demonstrates the existence of an evanescent electron wave outside both finite and infinite quantum wells by solving the Dirac equation and ensuring the continuity of the spinor wavefunction at the boundaries. We show that this evanescent wave shares the spin characteristics of the wave confined within the well, as indicated by analytical expressions for the current density across all regions. Our findings suggest that the electron cannot be confined to a mathematical singularity and that quantum information, or quantum entropy, can leak through any quantum confinement. These results emphasize that the electron wave, fully characterized by Lorentz-invariant charge and current densities, should be considered the true and sole entity of the electron.

Most current methods use spatial-temporal graph neural networks (STGNNs) to analyze complex spatial-temporal information from traffic data collected from hundreds of sensors. STGNNs combine graph neural networks (GNNs) and sequence models to create hybrid structures that allow for the two networks to collaborate. However, this collaboration has made the model increasingly complex. This study proposes a framework that relies solely on original Transformer architecture and carefully designs embeddings to efficiently extract spatial-temporal dependencies in traffic flow. Additionally, we used pre-trained language models to enhance forecasting performance. We compared our new framework with current state-of-the-art STGNNs and Transformer-based models using four real-world traffic datasets: PEMS04, PEMS08, METR-LA, and PEMS-BAY. The experimental results demonstrate that our framework outperforms the other models in most metrics.

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are considered the most promising photovoltaic devices to replace silicon-based solar cells because of their low preparation cost and high photoelectric conversion efficiency (PCE). Reducing defects in perovskite films is an effective means to improve the efficiency of PSCs. In this paper, a lead chelator was selected and mixed into hole transport layers (HTLs) to design and prepare mesoporous PSCs with the structure of ITO/PTAA(BCP)/Al 2 O 3 /PVK/PCBM/BCP/Ag, and its modification effect on the buried interface at the bottom of the perovskite layer in the mesoporous structure was explored. The experimental results show that in the presence of mesoporous alumina, the lead chelator can still play a role in modifying the bottom of the perovskite film. The use of lead chelator as passivation material added to the HTL can effectively reduce the residue of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and decrease the defects at the bottom of the perovskite film, which dramatically improves the device performance. The PCE of the device is increased from 18.03% to 20.78%, which is an increase of 15%. The work in this paper provides an effective method to enhance the performance of PSCs.

Plants regulate the biosynthesis and emission of metabolic compounds to manage herbivorous stresses. In this study, as a destructive pest, the pre-infestation of rice striped stem borer (SSB, Chilo suppressalis ) larvae on rice ( Oryza sativa ) reduced the subsequent SSB female adult oviposition preference. Widely targeted volatilomics and transcriptome sequencing were used to identify released volatile metabolic profiles and differentially expressed genes in SSB-infested and uninfested rice plants. SSB infestation significantly altered the accumulation of 71 volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including 13 terpenoids. A total of 7897 significantly differentially expressed genes were identified, and genes involved in the terpenoid and phenylpropanoid metabolic pathways were highly enriched. Correlation analysis revealed that DEGs in terpenoid metabolism-related pathways were likely involved in the regulation of VOC biosynthesis in SSB-infested rice plants. Furthermore, two terpenoids, (-)-carvone and cedrol, were selected to analyse the behaviour of SSB and predators. Y-tube olfactometer tests demonstrated that both (-)-carvone and cedrol could repel SSB adults at higher concentrations; (-)-carvone could simultaneously attract the natural enemies of SSB, Cotesia chilonis and Trichogramma japonicum , and cedrol could only attract T. japonicum at lower concentrations. These findings provide a better understanding of the response of rice plants to SSB and contribute to the development of new strategies to control herbivorous pests.

Small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutics, characterized by high specificity, potency, and durability, hold great promise in the treatment of cancer and other diseases. However, the clinic implementation of siRNA therapeutics critically depends on the safe and on-demand delivery of siRNA to the target cells. Here, we reported a family of ferrocenyl amphiphilic dendrimers ( Fc-AmDs ) for on-demand delivery of siRNA in response to the high ROS content in cancer cells. These dendrimers bear ROS-sensitive ferrocene moieties in the hydrophobic components and positively chargeable poly(amidoamine) dendrons as the hydrophilic entities, possessing favorable safety profiles and ROS responsive properties. One of these ferrocenyl amphiphilic dendrimers, Fc-C 8 -AmD 8A , outperforms in siRNA delivery, benefiting from its optimal balance of hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity. Its ROS feature facilitates specific and efficient disassembly of its complex with siRNA in ROS-rich cancer cells for effective siRNA delivery and gene silencing. Moreover, Fc-C 8 -AmD 8A also integrates the features and beneficial properties of both lipid and dendrimer vectors. Therefore, it represents a novel on-demand delivery system for cancer cell-specific siRNA delivery. This work opens new perspectives for designing self-assembly nanosystems for on-demand drug delivery.

Self-powered photoelectrochemical (PEC) ultraviolet photodetectors (UVPDs) are promising for next-generation energy-saving and highly integrated optoelectronic systems. Constructing a heterojunction is an effective strategy to increase the photodetection performance of PEC UVPDs because it can promote the separation and transfer of photogenerated carriers. However, both crystal defects and lattice mismatch lead to deteriorated device performance. Here, we introduce a structural regulation strategy to prepare TiO 2 anatase-rutile heterophase homojunctions (A-R HHs) with oxygen vacancies (OVs) photoanodes through an in situ topological transformation of titanium metal-organic framework (Ti-MOF) by pyrolysis treatment. The cooperative interaction between A-R HHs and OVs suppresses carrier recombination and accelerates carrier transport, thereby significantly enhancing the photodetection performance of PEC UVPDs. The obtained device realizes a high on/off ratio of 10,752, a remarkable responsivity of 24.15 mA W -1 , an impressive detectivity of 3.28 × 10 11 Jones, and excellent cycling stability. More importantly, under 365 nm light illumination, a high-resolution image of "HUST" (the abbreviation of Harbin University of Science and Technology) was obtained perfectly, confirming the excellent optical imaging capability of the device. This research not only presents an advanced methodology for constructing TiO 2 -based PEC UVPDs, but also provides strategic guidance for enhancing their performance and practical applications.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a chronic aortic disease that lacks effective pharmacological therapies. This study was performed to determine the influence of treatment with the gasdermin D inhibitor necrosulfonamide on experimental AAAs. AAAs were induced in male apolipoprotein E-deficient mice by subcutaneous angiotensin II infusion (1000 ng/kg body weight/min), with daily administration of necrosulfonamide (5 mg/kg body weight) or vehicle starting 3 days prior to angiotensin II infusion for 30 days. Necrosulfonamide treatment remarkably suppressed AAA enlargement, as indicated by reduced suprarenal maximal external diameter and surface area, and lowered the incidence and reduced the severity of experimental AAAs. Histologically, necrosulfonamide treatment attenuated medial elastin breaks, smooth muscle cell depletion, and aortic wall collagen deposition. Macrophages, CD4 + T cells, CD8 + T cells, and neovessels were reduced in the aneurysmal aortas of necrosulfonamide- as compared to vehicle-treated angiotensin II-infused mice. Atherosclerosis and intimal macrophages were also substantially reduced in suprarenal aortas from angiotensin II-infused mice following necrosulfonamide treatment. Additionally, the levels of serum interleukin-1β and interleukin-18 were significantly lower in necrosulfonamide- than in vehicle-treated mice without affecting body weight gain, lipid levels, or blood pressure. Our findings indicate that necrosulfonamide reduced experimental AAAs by preserving aortic structural integrity as well as reducing mural leukocyte accumulation, neovessel formation, and systemic levels of interleukin-1β and interleukin-18. Thus, pharmacologically inhibiting gasdermin D activity may lead to the establishment of nonsurgical therapies for clinical AAA disease.

The micro-sintering method was used to determine the sintering basic characteristics of iron ore with Zn contents from 0 to 4%, the influence mechanism of Zn on sintering basic characteristics of iron ore was clarified by means of thermodynamic analysis and first-principles calculations. The results showed that (1) increasing the ZnO and ZnFe 2 O 4 content increased the lowest assimilation temperature (LAT) but decreased the index of liquid phase fluidity (ILF) of iron ore. The addition of ZnS had no obvious effect on LAT but increased the LIF of iron ore. (2) ZnO and ZnFe 2 O 4 reacted with Fe 2 O 3 and CaO, respectively, during sintering, which inhibited the formation of silico-ferrite of calcium and aluminum (SFCA). The addition of ZnS accelerated the decomposition of Fe 2 O 3 in the N 2 atmosphere; however, the high decomposition temperature limited the oxidation of ZnS, so the presence of ZnS had a slight inhibitory effect on the formation of SFCA. (3) The Zn concentrated in hematite or silicate and less distributed in SFCA and magnetite in the form of solid solution; meanwhile, the microhardness of the mineral phase decreased with the increase in Zn-containing solid solution content. As the adsorption of Zn on the SFCA crystal surface was more stable, the microhardness of SFCA decreased more. The decrease in microhardness and content of the SFCA bonding phase resulted in a decrease in the compressive strength of the sinter.

Polarization imaging has achieved a wide range of applications in military and civilian fields such as camouflage detection and autonomous driving. However, when the imaging environment involves a low-light condition, the number of photons is low and the photon transmittance of the conventional Division-of-Focal-Plane (DoFP) structure is small. Therefore, the traditional demosaicing methods are often used to deal with the serious noise and distortion generated by polarization demosaicing in low-light environment. Based on the aforementioned issues, this paper proposes a model called Low-Light Sparse Polarization Demosaicing Network (LLSPD-Net) for simulating a sparse polarization sensor acquisition of polarization images in low-light environments. The model consists of two parts: an intensity image enhancement network and a Stokes vector complementation network. In this work, the intensity image enhancement network is used to enhance low-light images and obtain high-quality RGB images, while the Stokes vector is used to complement the network. We discard the traditional idea of polarization intensity image interpolation and instead design a polarization demosaicing method with Stokes vector complementation. By using the enhanced intensity image as a guide, the completion of the Stokes vector is achieved. In addition, to train our network, we collected a dataset of paired color polarization images that includes both low-light and regular-light conditions. A comparison with state-of-the-art methods on both self-constructed and publicly available datasets reveals that our model outperforms traditional low-light image enhancement demosaicing methods in both qualitative and quantitative experiments.

Chromium slag is a solid waste of chromium salt production, which contains highly toxic Cr(VI) and significant amounts of valuable metals, such as Fe and Cr. Recycling chromium slag as a raw sintering material in sintering-ironmaking processes can simultaneously reduce toxic Cr(VI) and recover valuable metals. A micro-sintering experiment, compressive strength test, microhardness test, and first-principles calculation are performed to investigate the influence of Cr 2 O 3 on the sintering microstructure and mechanical properties of the silico-ferrite of calcium and aluminum (SFCA) in order to understand the basis of the sintering process with chromium slag addition. The results show that the microstructure of SFCA changes from blocky to interwoven, with further increasing Cr 2 O 3 content from 0 wt% to 3 wt%, and transforms to blocky with Cr 2 O 3 content increasing to 5 wt%. Cr 2 O 3 reacts with Fe 2 O 3 to form (Fe 1- x Cr x ) 2 O 3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1), which participates in forming SFCA. With the increase in Cr doping concentrations, the hardness of SFCA first decreases and then increases, and the toughness increases. When Cr 2 O 3 content increases from 0 wt% to 3 wt%, the SFCA microhardness decreases and the compressive strength of the sintered sample increases. Further increasing Cr 2 O 3 contents to 5 wt%, the SFCA microhardness increases, and the compressive strength of sintered sample decreases.

In order to increase the utilization rate of stainless steel slag, reduce storage needs, and mitigate environmental impacts, this study replaces a portion of limestone with varying amounts of stainless steel slag in the calcination of Portland cement clinker. The study primarily examines the influence of stainless steel slag on the phase composition, microstructure, compressive strength, and free calcium oxide (ƒ-CaO) content of Portland cement clinker. The results show the following: (1) Using stainless steel slag to calcine Portland cement clinker can lower the calcination temperature, reducing industrial production costs and energy consumption. (2) With an increase in the amount of stainless steel slag, the dicalcium silicate (C 2 S) and tricalcium silicate (C 3 S) phases in Portland cement clinker initially increase and then decrease; the C 3 S crystals gradually transform into continuous hexagonal plate-shaped distributions, while the tricalcium aluminate (C 3 A) and tetracalcium aluminoferrite (C 4 AF) crystal structures become denser. When the stainless steel slag content is 15%, the dicalcium silicate and tricalcium silicate phases are at their peak; the C 3 S crystals are continuously distributed with a relatively dense structure, and C 3 A and C 4 AF crystals melt and sinter together, becoming distributed around C 3 S. (3) As stainless steel slag content increases, the compressive strength of Portland cement clinker at 3 days, 7 days, and 28 days increases and then decreases, while ƒ-CaO content decreases and then increases. When the stainless steel slag content is 15%, the compressive strength at 28 days is at its highest, 64.4 MPa, with the lowest ƒ-CaO content, 0.78%. The test results provide a basis for the utilization of stainless steel slag in the calcination of Portland cement clinker.

In brain imaging segmentation, precise tumor delineation is crucial for diagnosis and treatment planning. Traditional approaches include convolutional neural networks (CNNs), which struggle with processing sequential data, and transformer models that face limitations in maintaining computational efficiency with large-scale data. This study introduces MambaBTS: a model that synergizes the strengths of CNNs and transformers, is inspired by the Mamba architecture, and integrates cascade residual multi-scale convolutional kernels. The model employs a mixed loss function that blends dice loss with cross-entropy to refine segmentation accuracy effectively. This novel approach reduces computational complexity, enhances the receptive field, and demonstrates superior performance for accurately segmenting brain tumors in MRI images. Experiments on the MICCAI BraTS 2019 dataset show that MambaBTS achieves dice coefficients of 0.8450 for the whole tumor (WT), 0.8606 for the tumor core (TC), and 0.7796 for the enhancing tumor (ET) and outperforms existing models in terms of accuracy, computational efficiency, and parameter efficiency. These results underscore the model's potential to offer a balanced, efficient, and effective segmentation method, overcoming the constraints of existing models and promising significant improvements in clinical diagnostics and planning.

Two unreported heteropolysaccharides, denoted as YCJP-1 and YCJP-2, were isolated from the herbs of Chloranthus japonicus . YCJP-1 was a heteropolysaccharide composed of glucose, galactose, arabinose, mannose, rhamnose, and a minor proportion of uronic acids, with the molecular weight mainly distributed in the 74,475-228,443 Da range. YCJP-2 was mainly composed of glucose, mannose, and galactose, with the molecular weights ranging from 848 to 5810 Da. To further evaluate the anti-gastric cancer effects of C. japonicus , the inhibitory effects of the crude polysaccharide (YCJP) and the purified polysaccharides (YCJP-1 and YCJP-2) were determined using a CCK-8 assay and colon-forming assay on MGC-803 and AGS gastric cancer cell lines. Our results showed that YCJP, YCJP-1, and YCJP-2 possess prominent inhibitory effects on the proliferation of MGC-803 and AGS cells, and the AGS cell was more sensitive to YCJP, YCJP-1, and YCJP-2. Moreover, YCJP-2 demonstrated superior anti-gastric cancer effects compared to YCJP-1. This could potentially be attributed to YCJP-2's higher glucose content and narrower molecular weight distribution.

Using the aldehyde amine condensation procedure and the triphenylamine group as the skeleton structure, the new triphenylamine-aromatic aldehyde-succinylhydrazone probe molecule DHBYMH was created. A newly created acylhydrazone probe was structurally characterized by mass spectrometry (MS), NMR, and infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Fluorescence and UV spectroscopy were used to examine DHBYMH's sensing capabilities for metal ions. Notably, DHBYMH achieved a detection limit of 1.62 × 10 -7 M by demonstrating exceptional selectivity and sensitivity towards Cu 2+ ions in an optimum sample solvent system (DMSO/H 2 O, ( v / v = 7/3); pH = 7.0; cysteine (Cys) concentration: 1 × 10 -4 M). NMR titration, high-resolution mass spectrometry analysis, and DFT computation were used to clarify the response mechanism. Ultimately, predicated on DHBYMH's reversible identification of Cu 2+ ions in the presence of EDTA, a molecular logic gate was successfully designed.

Marine symbiotic and epiphyte microorganisms are sources of bioactive or structurally novel natural products. Metabolic blockade-based genome mining has been proven to be an effective strategy to accelerate the discovery of natural products from both terrestrial and marine microorganisms. Here, the metabolic blockade-based genome mining strategy was applied to the discovery of other metabolites in a sea anemone-associated Streptomyces sp. S1502. We constructed a mutant Streptomyces sp. S1502/Δ stp1 that switched to producing the atypical angucyclines WS-5995 A-E, among which WS-5995 E is a new compound. A biosynthetic gene cluster ( wsm ) of the angucyclines was identified through gene knock-out and heterologous expression studies. The biosynthetic pathways of WS-5995 A-E were proposed, the roles of some tailoring and regulatory genes were investigated, and the biological activities of WS-5995 A-E were evaluated. WS-5995 A has significant anti- Eimeria tenell activity with an IC 50 value of 2.21 μM. The production of antibacterial streptopyrroles and anticoccidial WS-5995 A-E may play a protective role in the mutual relationship between Streptomyces sp. S1502 and its host.

H19 is an essential imprinted gene that is expressed to govern normal embryonic development. During reprogramming, the parental pronuclei have asymmetric reprogramming capacities and the critical reprogramming factors predominantly reside in the male pronucleus. After inhibiting the expression of H19 and Gtl2, androgenetic haploid ESCs (AG-haESCs) can efficiently and stably support the generation of healthy SC pups at a rate of ~20%, and double-knockout parthenogenetic haESCs can also produce efficiently. Induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell reprogramming is thought to have a characteristic epigenetic pattern that is the reverse of its developmental potential; however, it is unclear how H19 participates in iPS cell reprogramming. Here, we showed that the expression of H19 was transiently increased during iPSC reprogramming. H19 knockdown resulted in greater reprogramming efficiency. The genes associated with pluripotency showed enhanced expression during the early reprogramming process, and the Oct4 promoter was demethylated by bisulfite genomic sequencing analysis. Moreover, expression analysis revealed that the mesenchymal master regulators associated with epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) were downregulated during reprogramming in H19 knockdown. These findings provide functional insight into the role of H19 as a barrier to the early reprogramming process.

Estrogen plays a multifaceted function in humans via interacting with the estrogen receptors ERα, ERβ, and G protein-coupled estrogen receptor 1 (GPER1). Previous research has predominantly concentrated on elucidating the signaling route of estrogen. However, the comprehensive understanding of the expression profile and control of these estrogen receptors in various human tissues is not well known. In the present study, the RNA levels of estrogen receptors in various normal and malignant human tissues were retrieved from the human protein atlas, the cancer genome atlas (TCGA), and the genotype-tissue expression (GTEx) databases for analyzing the expression profile of estrogen receptors through gene expression profiling interactive analysis (GEPIA). The status of DNA methylation of estrogen receptor genes from TCGA were analyzed through the software Wanderer and cBioPortal. The MethSurv tool was utilized to estimate the relevance between specific cytosine-guanine (CG) methylation and tumor survival. The expression profile analysis revealed that ERα, ERβ, and GPER1 have unique expression patterns in diverse tissues and malignancies. The interesting results were the higher expression of ERβ RNA in the male testis than in females and the positive association between the RNA level of ERα and the androgen receptor in different human normal tissues. Especially, the significant changes in GPER1 expression in multiple malignancies showed a consistent decrease with no exception, which indicates the role of GPER1 in common tumor inhibition. The finding on the expression profile provides clues for exploring novel potential physiological and pathophysiological functions of estrogen. The DNA methylation analysis manifested that the expression of GPER1 and ERα showed a substantial correlation with the methylation of specific CG sites in the cis-regulating region of the gene. However, no such association was observed for ERβ. When comparing tumor tissues to normal tissues, the DNA methylation of certain CG sites of estrogen receptors showed a correlation with tumor survival but did not always correlate with the expression of that gene or with the expression of DNA methyltransferases. We proposed that the variation in DNA methylation at different CG sites in estrogen receptor genes had other functions beyond its regulatory role in its gene expression, and this might be associated with the progression and therapy efficiency of the tumor based on the modulation of the chromatin configuration.

Flower color is an important ornamental feature that is often modulated by the contents of flavonoids. Chalcone synthase is the first key enzyme in the biosynthesis of flavonoids, but little is known about the role of R. delavayi CHS in flavonoid biosynthesis. In this paper, three CHS genes ( RdCHS1-3 ) were successfully cloned from R. delavayi flowers. According to multiple sequence alignment and a phylogenetic analysis, only RdCHS1 contained all the highly conserved and important residues, which was classified into the cluster of bona fide CHSs. RdCHS1 was then subjected to further functional analysis. Real-time PCR analysis revealed that the transcripts of RdCHS1 were the highest in the leaves and lowest in the roots; this did not match the anthocyanin accumulation patterns during flower development. Biochemical characterization displayed that RdCHS1 could catalyze p -coumaroyl-CoA and malonyl-CoA molecules to produce naringenin chalcone. The physiological function of RdCHS1 was checked in Arabidopsis mutants and tobacco, and the results showed that RdCHS1 transgenes could recover the color phenotypes of the tt4 mutant and caused the tobacco flower color to change from pink to dark pink through modulating the expressions of endogenous structural and regulatory genes in the tobacco. All these results demonstrate that RdCHS1 fulfills the function of a bona fide CHS and contributes to flavonoid biosynthesis in R. delavayi .

Pyroptosis, an innate immune response, plays a crucial role in the pathological process of inflammatory diseases. Although pyroptosis blockade is considered a potential therapeutic strategy, no ideal candidate drug has been identified. The natural product Chojaponilactone B (CJB) has demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects, but its role in macrophage pyroptosis has not been studied. This study aimed to investigate the effect and mechanism of CJB in inhibiting macrophage pyroptosis. Using an LPS/ATP-induced THP-1 macrophage pyroptosis model, we found that CJB significantly inhibited pyroptosis and reduced the levels of NLRP3, caspase 1, N-GSDMD, and inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL-18. RNA sequencing analysis revealed that CJB interfered with LPS/ATP-induced THP-1 macrophage gene expression, suggesting involvement in anti-inflammatory and anti-pyroptotic signaling pathways. Additionally, CJB suppressed LPS/ATP-induced elevations in TLRs, MyD88, pro-IL-1β, and NF-κB and blocked NF-κB p65 nuclear translocation. In summary, CJB inhibits NLRP3 activation and macrophage pyroptosis through the TLR/MyD88/NF-κB pathway, providing important evidence for its development as a potential drug for treating pyroptosis-related inflammatory diseases.

A key part of any effort to ensure informed health care decision-making among the public is access to reliable and relevant health-related information. We conducted focus groups with women from three generations across the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area to explore their information-seeking motivations, perceptions, challenges, and preferences regarding three FDA-regulated products: drugs, vaccines, and medical devices. The youngest generation discussed seeking health information for their children; the other two sought information for their own needs. All participants noted that finding health information appropriate to their reading level was a challenge, as was identifying reliable sources of information. All generations identified in-person and live interactions as their preferred method of communication and health care providers as their preferred source for information. All three generations recognized the usefulness of websites, and the two older generations acknowledged the advantages of brochures. Our findings suggest approaches the FDA could consider to improve communications: (a) supporting in-person and live health information interactions; (b) leveraging the agency's standing with the public to highlight it as a leading source of validated health information; (c) increasing the FDA website's visibility in internet searches and making its navigation easier; and (d) using multi-pronged approaches and media for various audiences.

The frequent occurrence of extreme climate events has a significant impact on people's lives. Heavy rainfall can lead to an increase of regional Terrestrial Water Storage (TWS), which will cause land subsidence due to the influence of hydrological load. At present, regional TWS is mostly obtained from Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) data, but the method has limitations for small areas. This paper used water level and flow data as hydrological signals to study the land subsidence caused by heavy rainfall in the Chaohu Lake area of East China (June 2016-August 2016). Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to study the interconnection between water resource changes and Global Navigation Satellites System (GNSS) vertical displacement. Meanwhile, to address the reliability of the research results, combined with the Coefficient of determination method, the research findings were validated by using different institutional models. The results showed that: (1) During heavy rainfall, the vertical displacement caused by atmospheric load was larger than non-tidal oceanic load, and the influence trends of the two were opposite. (2) The rapidly increasing hydrologic load in the Chaohu Lake area resulted in greater subsidence displacement at the closer CORS station (CHCH station) than the more distant CORS station (LALA station). The Pearson correlation coefficients between the vertical displacement and water level were as high as -0.80 and -0.64, respectively. The phenomenon confirmed the elastic deformation principle of disc load. (3) Although there was a systematic bias between the different environmental load deformation models, the deformation trends were generally consistent with the GNSS monitoring results. The average Coefficients of determination between the different models and the GNSS results were 0.63 and 0.77, respectively. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of GNSS in monitoring short-term hydrological load. This study reveals the spatial-temporal evolution of land deformation during heavy rainfall around Chaohu Lake, which is of reference significance for water resource management and infrastructure maintenance in this area.

Annexins (ANNs) are a structurally conserved protein family present in almost all plants. In the present study, 27 GhANNs were identified in cotton and were unevenly distributed across 14 chromosomes. Transcriptome data and RT-qPCR results revealed that multiple GhANNs respond to at least two abiotic stresses. Similarly, the expression levels of GhANN4 and GhANN11 were significantly upregulated under heat, cold, and drought stress. Using virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS), functional characterization of GhANN4 and GhANN11 revealed that, compared with those of the controls, the leaf wilting of GhANN4 -silenced plants was more obvious, and the activities of catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were lower under NaCl and PEG stress. Moreover, the expression of stress marker genes ( GhCBL3 , GhDREB2A , GhDREB2C , GhPP2C , GhRD20-2 , GhCIPK6 , GhNHX1 , GhRD20-1 , GhSOS1 , GhSOS2 and GhSnRK2.6 ) was significantly downregulated in GhANN4 -silenced plants after stress. Under cold stress, the growth of the GHANN11 -silenced plants was significantly weaker than that of the control plants, and the activities of POD, SOD, and CAT were also lower. However, compared with those of the control, the elasticity and orthostatic activity of the GhANN11 -silenced plants were greater; the POD, SOD, and CAT activities were higher; and the GhDREB2C , GhHSP , and GhSOS2 expression levels were greater under heat stress. These results suggest that different GhANN family members respond differently to different types of abiotic stress.

Phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate 5-kinases (PIP5Ks), essential enzymes in the phosphatidylinositol signaling pathway, are crucial for the abiotic stress responses and the overall growth and development of plants. However, the GhPIP5Ks had not been systematically studied, and their function in upland cotton was unknown. This study identified a total of 28 GhPIP5Ks , and determined their chromosomal locations, gene structures, protein motifs and cis-acting elements via bioinformatics analysis. A quantitative real-time PCR (qRT‒PCR) analysis showed that most GhPIP5Ks were upregulated under different stresses. A virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) assay indicated that the superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT) activities were significantly decreased, while malondialdehyde (MDA) content were significantly increased in GhPIP5K2 - and GhPIP5K22 -silenced upland cotton plants under abiotic stress. Furthermore, the expression of the stress marker genes GhHSFB2A , GhHSFB2B , GhDREB2A , GhDREB2C , GhRD20-1 , GhRD29A , GhBIN2 , GhCBL3 , GhNHX1 , GhPP2C , GhCBF1 , GhSnRK2.6 and GhCIPK6 was significantly decreased in the silenced plants after exposure to stress. These results revealed that the silencing of GhPIP5K2 and GhPIP5K22 weakened the tolerance to abiotic stresses. These discoveries provide a foundation for further inquiry into the actions of the GhPIP5K gene family in regulating the response and resistance mechanisms of cotton to abiotic stresses.

As technology advances in almost all areas of life, many companies and researchers are working to develop fully autonomous vehicles. Such level 5 autonomous driving, unlike levels 0 to 4, is a driverless vehicle stage and so the leap from level 4 to level 5 autonomous driving requires much more research and experimentation. For autonomous vehicles to safely drive in complex environments, autonomous cars should ensure end-to-end delay deadlines of sensor systems and car-controlling algorithms including machine learning modules, which are known to be very computationally intensive. To address this issue, we propose a new framework, i.e., an environment-driven approach for autonomous cars. Specifically, we identify environmental factors that we cannot control at all, and controllable internal factors such as sensing frequency, image resolution, prediction rate, car speed, and so on. Then, we design an admission control module that allows us to control internal factors such as image resolution and detection period to determine whether given parameters are acceptable or not for supporting end-to-end deadlines in the current environmental scenario while maintaining the accuracy of autonomous driving. The proposed framework has been verified with an RC car and a simulator.

Recently, we re-isolated the glycosylated angucycline antibiotics P-1894B ( 1 ) and grincamycin ( 1' ) from the marine-derived Streptomyces lusitanus SCSIO LR32 as potent antitumor agents and identified their biosynthesis gene cluster gcn . Both P-1894B ( 1 ) and grincamycin ( 1' ) possess a trisaccharide and a disaccharide moiety comprised of five deoxysugars. In this work, three genes encoding glycosyltransferases (GcnG1, GcnG2, and GcnG3) responsible for the assembly of deoxysugars into angucycline aglycone were identified from the biosynthesis gene cluster gcn . Gene inactivations of gcnG1 , gcnG2 , gcnG3 , and gcnG1G2 by lambda-RED-mediated gene replacements led to the construction of four mutants, in which the glycosyltransferase genes were disrupted, respectively. The metabolites from the mutants were purified and identified, including two new analogues designated as grincamycin U ( 3a ) and V ( 3' ). The sequential glycosylation steps in the biosynthesis of P-1894B ( 1 ) and grincamycin ( 1' ) catalyzed by GcnG3, GcnG1, and GcnG2 were elucidated.

The one strain many compounds (OSMAC) strategy is an effective method for activating silent gene clusters by cultivating microorganisms under various conditions. The whole genome sequence of the marine-derived strain Streptomyces globisporus SCSIO LCY30 revealed that it contains 30 biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs). By using the OSMAC strategy, three types of secondary metabolites were activated and identified, including three angucyclines, mayamycin A ( 1 ), mayamycin B ( 2 ), and rabolemycin ( 3 ); two streptophenazines (streptophenazin O ( 4 ) and M ( 5 )); and a macrolide dimeric dinactin ( 6 ), respectively. The biosynthetic pathways of the secondary metabolites in these three families were proposed based on the gene function prediction and structural information. The bioactivity assays showed that angucycline compounds 1 - 3 exhibited potent antitumor activities against 11 human cancer cell lines and antibacterial activities against a series of Gram-positive bacteria. Mayamycin ( 1 ) selectively exhibited potent cytotoxicity activity against triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cell lines such as MDA-MB-231, MDA-MB-468, and Bt-549, with IC 50 values of 0.60-2.22 μM.

Chemoresistance and inefficient therapeutic efficacies in triple-negative breast cancers (TNBCs) are among the major clinical problems in breast cancers. A potential new method to sensitize these tumors to current treatment options is, therefore, urgent and necessary. Our previous studies demonstrated that miR-489 serves as one of the top tumor-suppressing miRs and features downregulated expression in metastatic TNBCs and that the restoration of miR-489 expression in TNBCs effectively inhibits the metastatic potentials of TNBCs both in vitro and in vivo. The chemical modification of miR-489 (CMM489) through the replacement of uracil with 5-FU further enhances the therapeutic potential of miR-489. In the present study, we tested the effects of CMM489 in synergizing DNA damage response (DDR) inhibitors such as PARP inhibitors. CMM489 is particularly effective in sensitizing TNBC cell lines with inherent resistance to PARP inhibitors regardless of BRCA mutation status. One of the anti-cancer mechanisms through which CMM489 synergizes with PARP inhibitors is the blockade of homologous recombination (HR) in TNBC cells upon DNA damage. The results of this study highlight the potential use of CMM489 in combination treatments with PARP inhibitors in TNBCs.

The alarmingly low five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer presents a global health challenge, contributing to about 7% of all cancer-related deaths. Late-stage diagnosis and high heterogeneity are the biggest hurdles in treating pancreatic cancer. Thus, there is a pressing need to discover novel biomarkers that could help in early detection as well as improve therapeutic strategies. MicroRNAs (miRNAs), a class of short non-coding RNA, have emerged as promising candidates with regard to both diagnostics and therapeutics. Dysregulated miRNAs play pivotal roles in accelerating tumor growth and metastasis, orchestrating tumor microenvironment, and conferring chemoresistance in pancreatic cancer. The differential expression profiles of miRNAs in pancreatic cancer could be utilized to explore novel therapeutic strategies. In this review, we also covered studies on recent advancements in various miRNA-based therapeutics such as restoring miRNAs with a tumor-suppressive function, suppressing miRNA with an oncogenic function, and combination with chemotherapeutic drugs. Despite several challenges in terms of specificity and targeted delivery, miRNA-based therapies hold the potential to revolutionize the treatment of pancreatic cancer by simultaneously targeting multiple signaling pathways.

Small intestinal stromal tumor (SIST) is a common gastrointestinal tumor. Currently, SIST diagnosis relies on clinical radiologists reviewing CT images from medical imaging sensors. However, this method is inefficient and greatly affected by subjective factors. The automatic detection method for stromal tumors based on computer vision technology can better solve these problems. However, in CT images, SIST have different shapes and sizes, blurred edge texture, and little difference from surrounding normal tissues, which to a large extent challenges the use of computer vision technology for the automatic detection of stromal tumors. Furthermore, there are the following issues in the research on the detection and recognition of SIST. After analyzing mainstream target detection models on SIST data, it was discovered that there is an imbalance in the features at different levels during the feature fusion stage of the network model. Therefore, this paper proposes an algorithm, based on the attention balance feature pyramid (ABFP), for detecting SIST with unbalanced feature fusion in the target detection model. By combining weighted multi-level feature maps from the backbone network, the algorithm creates a balanced semantic feature map. Spatial attention and channel attention modules are then introduced to enhance this map. In the feature fusion stage, the algorithm scales the enhanced balanced semantic feature map to the size of each level feature map and enhances the original feature information with the original feature map, effectively addressing the imbalance between deep and shallow features. Consequently, the SIST detection model's detection performance is significantly improved, and the method is highly versatile. Experimental results show that the ABFP method can enhance traditional target detection methods, and is compatible with various models and feature fusion strategies.

Inhibition of the Embryonic Ectoderm Development (EED) subunit in Polycomb Repressive Complex 2 (PRC2) can inhibit tumor growth. In this paper, we selected six experimentally designed EED competitive Inhibitors of the triazolopyrimidine derivatives class. We investigated the difference in the binding mode of the natural substrate to the Inhibitors and the effects of differences in the parent nuclei, heads, and tails of the Inhibitors on the inhibitory capacity. The results showed that the binding free energy of this class of Inhibitors was close to or lower compared to the natural substrate, providing an energetic basis for competitive inhibition. For the Inhibitors, the presence of a strong negatively charged group at the 6-position of the parent nucleus or the 8'-position of the head would make the hydrogen atom on the head imino group prone to flip, resulting in the vertical movement of the parent nucleus, which significantly decreased the inhibitory ability. When the 6-position of the parent nucleus was a nonpolar group, the parent nucleus would move horizontally, slightly decreasing the inhibitory ability. When the 8'-position of the head was methylene, it formed an intramolecular hydrophobic interaction with the benzene ring on the tail, resulting in a significant increase in inhibition ability.

Polygalacturonase (PG) is one of the largest families of hydrolytic enzymes in plants. It is involved in the breakdown of pectin in the plant cell wall and even contributes to peel cracks. Here, we characterize PGs and outline their expression profiles using the available reference genome and transcriptome of Akebia trifoliata . The average length and exon number of the 47 identified AktPGs, unevenly assigned on 14 chromosomes and two unassembled contigs, were 5399 bp and 7, respectively. The phylogenetic tree of 191 PGs , including 47, 57, 51, and 36 from A. trifoliata , Durio zibethinus , Actinidia chinensis, and Vitis vinifera , respectively, showed that AktPGs were distributed in all groups except group G and that 10 AktPGs in group E were older, while the remaining 37 AktPGs were younger. Evolutionarily, all AktPGs generally experienced whole-genome duplication (WGD)/segmental repeats and purifying selection. Additionally, the origin of conserved domain III was possibly associated with a histidine residue (H) substitute in motif 8. The results of both the phylogenetic tree and expression profiling indicated that five AktPGs , especially AktPG25, could be associated with the cracking process. Detailed information and data on the PG family are beneficial for further study of the postharvest biology of A. trifoliata .

Severe COVID-19 patients exhibit impaired IFN-I response due to decreased IFN-β production, allowing persistent viral load and exacerbated inflammation. While the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid (N) protein has been implicated in inhibiting innate immunity by interfering with IFN-β signaling, the specific underlying mechanism still needs further investigation for a comprehensive understanding. This study reveals that the SARS-CoV-2 N protein enhances interaction between the human SUMO-conjugating enzyme UBC9 and MAVS. Increased MAVS-UBC9 interaction leads to enhanced SUMOylation of MAVS, inhibiting its ubiquitination, resulting in the inhibition of phosphorylation events involving IKKα, TBK1, and IRF3, thus disrupting IFN-β signaling. This study highlights the role of the N protein of SARS-CoV-2 in modulating the innate immune response by affecting the MAVS SUMOylation and ubiquitination processes, leading to inhibition of the IFN-β signaling pathway. These findings shed light on the complex mechanisms utilized by SARS-CoV-2 to manipulate the host's antiviral defenses and provide potential insights for developing targeted therapeutic strategies against severe COVID-19.

Fish primary cell culture has emerged as a valuable tool for investigating the physiological roles and responses of various cell types found in fish species. This review aims to provide an overview of the advancements and applications of fish primary cell culture techniques, focusing on the profiling of physiological roles exhibited by fish cells in vitro. Fish primary cell culture involves the isolation and cultivation of cells directly derived from fish tissues, maintaining their functional characteristics and enabling researchers to study their behavior and responses under controlled conditions. Over the years, significant progress has been made in optimizing the culture conditions, establishing standardized protocols, and improving the characterization techniques for fish primary cell cultures. The review highlights the diverse cell types that have been successfully cultured from different fish species, including gonad cells, pituitary cells, muscle cells, hepatocytes, kidney and immune cells, adipocyte cells and myeloid cells, brain cells, primary fin cells, gill cells, and other cells. Each cell type exhibits distinct physiological functions, contributing to vital processes such as metabolism, tissue regeneration, immune response, and toxin metabolism. Furthermore, this paper explores the pivotal role of fish primary cell culture in elucidating the mechanisms underlying various physiological processes. Researchers have utilized fish primary cell cultures to study the effects of environmental factors, toxins, pathogens, and pharmaceutical compounds on cellular functions, providing valuable insights into fish health, disease pathogenesis, and drug development. The paper also discusses the application of fish primary cell cultures in aquaculture research, particularly in investigating fish growth, nutrition, reproduction, and stress responses. By mimicking the in vivo conditions in vitro, primary cell culture has proven instrumental in identifying key factors influencing fish health and performance, thereby contributing to the development of sustainable aquaculture practices.

Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 (HSV-1) infects humans and causes a variety of clinical manifestations. Many HSV-1 genomes have been sequenced with high-throughput sequencing technologies and the annotation of these genome sequences heavily relies on the known genes in reference strains. Consequently, the accuracy of reference strain annotation is critical for future research and treatment of HSV-1 infection. In this study, we analyzed RNA-Seq data of HSV-1 from NCBI databases and discovered a novel intron in the overlapping coding sequence (CDS) of US10 and US11 , and the 3' UTR of US12 in strain 17, a commonly used HSV-1 reference strain. To comprehensively understand the shared US10 / US11 / US12 intron structure, we used US11 as a representative and surveyed all US11 gene sequences from the NCBI nt/nr database. A total of 193 high-quality US11 sequences were obtained, of which 186 sequences have a domain of uninterrupted tandemly repeated RXP (Arg-X-Pro) in the C-terminus half of the protein. In total, 97 of the 186 sequences encode US11 protein with the same length of the mature US11 in strain 17:26 of them have the same structure of US11 and can be spliced as in strain 17; 71 of them have transcripts that are the same as mature US11 mRNA in strain 17. In total, 76 US11 gene sequences have either canonical or known noncanonical intron border sequences and may be spliced like strain 17 and obtain mature US11 CDS with the same length. If not spliced, they will have extra RXP repeats. A tandemly repeated RXP domain was proposed to be essential for US11 to bind with RNA and other host factors. US10 protein sequences from the same strains have also been studied. The results of this study show that even a frequently used reference organism may have errors in widely used databases. This study provides accurate annotation of the US10 , US11 , and US12 gene structure, which will build a more solid foundation to study expression regulation of the function of these genes.

Nanocarriers have been extensively developed in the biomedical field to enhance the treatment of various diseases. However, to effectively deliver therapeutic agents to desired target tissues and enhance their pharmacological activity, these nanocarriers must overcome biological barriers, such as mucus gel, skin, cornea, and blood-brain barriers. Polysaccharides possess qualities such as excellent biocompatibility, biodegradability, unique biological properties, and good accessibility, making them ideal materials for constructing drug delivery carriers. Nanogels, as a novel drug delivery platform, consist of three-dimensional polymer networks at the nanoscale, offering a promising strategy for encapsulating different pharmaceutical agents, prolonging retention time, and enhancing penetration. These attractive properties offer great potential for the utilization of polysaccharide-based nanogels as drug delivery systems to overcome biological barriers. Hence, this review discusses the properties of various barriers and the associated constraints, followed by summarizing the most recent development of polysaccharide-based nanogels in drug delivery to overcome biological barriers. It is expected to provide inspiration and motivation for better design and development of polysaccharide-based drug delivery systems to enhance bioavailability and efficacy while minimizing side effects.

Using Meyerozyma guilliermondii YB4, which was isolated and screened from southern Sichuan pickles in the laboratory, as the experimental group, we investigated the changes in growth, total ester content, and volatile flavor substances of M. guilliermondii YB4 under different NaCl concentrations. The growth of M. guilliermondii YB4 was found to be inhibited by NaCl, and the degree of inhibition increased at higher NaCl concentrations. Additionally, the total ester content of the control group (CK) was significantly lower compared to the other groups ( p < 0.05). The application of NaCl also resulted in distinct changes in the volatile profile of YB4, as evidenced by E-nose results. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS) were employed to analyze the volatile compounds. A total of 148 and 86 volatiles were detected and identified using GC-MS and GC-IMS, respectively. Differential volatiles among the various NaCl concentrations in YB4 were determined by a variable importance in projection (VIP) analysis in partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA). These differentially expressed volatiles were further confirmed by their relative odor activity value (ROAV) and odor description. Ten key contributing volatiles were identified, including ethanol, 1-pentanol, nonanal, octanal, isoamyl acetate, palmitic acid ethyl ester, acrolein, ethyl isobutanoate, prop-1-ene-3,3'-thiobis, and 2-acetylpyrazine. This study provides insights into the specificities and contributions of volatiles in YB4 under different NaCl concentrations. These findings offer valuable information for the development of aroma-producing yeast agents and the subsequent enhancement in the flavor of southern Sichuan pickles.

Herein, pyridinium and 4-vinylpyridinium groups are introduced into the VIE-active N , N '-disubstituted-dihydrodibenzo[ a , c ]phenazines (DPAC) framework to afford a series of D-π-A-structured dihydrodibenzo[ a , c ]phenazines in consideration of the aggregation-benefited performance of the DPAC module and the potential mitochondria-targeting capability of the resultant pyridinium-decorated DPACs (DPAC-PyPF 6 and DPAC-D-PyPF 6 ). To modulate the properties and elucidate the structure-property relationship, the corresponding pyridinyl/4-vinylpyridinyl-substituted DPACs, i.e., DPAC-Py and DPAC-D-Py, are designed and studied as controls. It is found that the strong intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) effect enables the effective separation of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of DPAC-PyPF 6 and DPAC-D-PyPF 6 , which is conducive to the generation of ROS. By adjusting the electron-accepting group and the π-bridge, the excitation, absorption, luminescence, photosensitizing properties as well as the mitochondria-targeting ability can be finely tuned. Both DPAC-PyPF 6 and DPAC-D-PyPF 6 display large Stokes shifts (70-222 nm), solvent-dependent absorptions and emissions, aggregation-induced emission (AIE), red fluorescence in the aggregated state ( λ em = 600-650 nm), aggregation-promoted photosensitizing ability with the relative singlet-oxygen quantum yields higher than 1.10, and a mitochondria-targeting ability with the Pearson coefficients larger than 0.85. DPAC-D-PyPF 6 shows absorption maximum at a longer wavelength, slightly redder fluorescence and better photosensitivity as compared to DPAC-PyPF 6 , which consequently leads to the higher photocytotoxicity under the irradiation of white light as a result of the larger π-conjugation.

In the hydrometallurgical process of zinc production, the residue from the leaching stage is an important intermediate product and is treated in a Waelz kiln to recover valuable metals. To ensure optimal results during the Waelz kiln process, it is necessary to pre-treat the residues by drying them first due to their higher water content. This work studies the residue's drying process using microwave technology. The study results indicate that microwave technology better removes the residue's oxygen functional groups and moisture. The dehydration process's effective diffusion coefficient increases as the microwave's heating power, the initial moisture content, and the initial mass increase. The Page model is appropriate for imitating the drying process, and the activation energy of the drying process for the residues is -13.11217 g/W. These results indicate that microwave technology efficiently dries the residues from the leaching stage. Furthermore, this study provides a theoretical basis and experimental data for the industrial application of microwave drying.

In real world industrial applications, the working environment of a bearing varies with time, and some unexpected vibration noises from other equipment are inevitable. In order to improve the anti-noise performance of neural networks, a new prediction model and a multi-channel sample generation method are proposed to address the above problem. First, we proposed a multi-channel sample representation method based on the envelope time-frequency spectrum of a different channel and subsequent three-dimensional filtering to extract the fault features of samples. Second, we proposed a multi-channel data fusion neural network (MCFNN) for bearing fault discrimination, where the dropout technique is used in the training process based on a dataset with a wide rotation speed and various loads. In a noise-free environment, our experimental results demonstrated that the proposed method can reach a higher fault classification of 99.00%. In a noisy environment, the experimental results show that for the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 0 dB, the fault classification averaged 11.80% higher than other methods and 32.89% higher under a SNR of -4 dB.

In the field of non-destructive testing (NDT) for concrete structures, the traditional air-coupled impact-echo technology often has the problems of complex operation and low efficiency. In order to solve these problems, this study uses Comsol software to establish a finite element model (FEM) of the concrete structure with different void sizes and obtains the variation rule of peak frequency. The recognition property of the concrete void based on peak frequency is proposed, which is explained and validated by relevant theory and experiments. The results show that compared with the depth of the void, the influence of the void width on the peak frequency increases significantly. When the void width is greater than 0.3 m, the peak frequency of the sound wave decreases with the increase in the width, and the change is obvious. This paper describes the applicability of concrete void depth less than 0.4 m for the air-coupled method and, when the concrete void depth is less than 0.4 m, the peak frequency can be used to effectively identify void widths greater than 0.3 m. The research results will be beneficial to void detection of concrete structures such as tunnel lining and pavements.

Soil heavy metal pollution has become one of the major environmental issues of global concern and solving this problem is a major scientific and technological need for today's socio-economic development. Environmentally friendly bioremediation methods are currently the most commonly used for soil heavy metal pollution remediation. Via controlled experiments, the removal characteristics of chromium from contaminated soil were studied using earthworms ( Eisenia fetida and Pheretima guillelmi ) and plants (ryegrass and maize) at different chromium concentrations (15 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg) in acidic and alkaline soils. The effects of chromium contamination on biomass, chromium bioaccumulation, and earthworm gut microbial communities were also analyzed. The results showed that E. fetida had a relatively stronger ability to remove chromium from acidic and alkaline soil than P. guillelmi , and ryegrass had a significantly better ability to remove chromium from acidic and alkaline soil than maize. The combined use of E. fetida and ryegrass showed the best effect of removing chromium from contaminated soils, wih the highest removal rate (63.23%) in acidic soil at low Cr concentrations. After soil ingestion by earthworms, the content of stable chromium (residual and oxidizable forms) in the soil decreased significantly, while the content of active chromium (acid-extractable and reducible forms) increased significantly, thus promoting the enrichment of chromium in plants. The diversity in gut bacterial communities in earthworms decreased significantly following the ingestion of chromium-polluted soil, and their composition differences were significantly correlated with soil acidity and alkalinity. Bacillales , Chryseobacterium , and Citrobacter may have strong abilities to resist chromium and enhance chromium activity in acidic and alkaline soils. There was also a significant correlation between changes in enzyme activity in earthworms and their gut bacterial communities. The bacterial communities, including Pseudomonas and Verminephrobacter , were closely related to the bioavailability of chromium in soil and the degree of chromium stress in earthworms. This study provides insights into the differences in bioremediation for chromium-contaminated soils with different properties and its biological responses.

Yellow seeds are desirable in rapeseed breeding because of their higher oil content and better nutritional quality than black seeds. However, the underlying genes and formation mechanism of yellow seeds remain unclear. Here, a novel yellow-seeded rapeseed line (Huangaizao, HAZ) was crossed with a black-seeded rapeseed line (Zhongshuang11, ZS11) to construct a mapping population of 196 F 2 individuals, based on which, a high-density genetic linkage map was constructed. This map, comprising 4174 bin markers, was 1618.33 cM in length and had an average distance of 0.39 cM between its adjacent markers. To assess the seed color of the F 2 population, three methods (imaging, spectrophotometry, and visual scoring) were used and a common major quantitative trait locus (QTL) on chromosome A09, explaining 10.91-21.83% of the phenotypic variance, was detected. Another minor QTL, accounting for 6.19-6.69% of the phenotypic variance, was detected on chromosome C03, only by means of imaging and spectrophotometry. Furthermore, a dynamic analysis of the differential expressions between the parental lines showed that flavonoid biosynthesis-related genes were down-regulated in the yellow seed coats at 25 and 35 days after flowering. A coexpression network between the differentially expressed genes identified 17 candidate genes for the QTL intervals, including a flavonoid structure gene, novel4557 ( BnaC03.TT4 ), and two transcription factor genes, namely, BnaA09G0616800ZS ( BnaA09.NFYA8 ) and BnaC03G0060200ZS ( BnaC03.NAC083 ), that may regulate flavonoid biosynthesis. Our study lays a foundation for further identifying the genes responsible for and understanding the regulatory mechanism of yellow seed formation in Brassica napus .

The most accepted approach to sealing in high-level radioactive waste repositories (HLRWs) is to develop a low-pH grouting material with a pH of the pore solution of less than 11. Currently, the most widely used binary low-pH grouting material is MCSF64, which comprises 60% microfine cement (MC) and 40% silica fume (SF). In this study, a high-performance MCSF64-based grouting material was developed by incorporating naphthalene superplasticizer (NSP), aluminum sulfate (AS), and united expansion agent (UEA) to enhance the slurry's shear strength, compressive strength, and hydration process. Orthogonal experiments were conducted to measure the flow time, yield stress, plastic viscosity, initial setting time, shear strength, and compressive strength of the MCSF64-based slurry, and the optimal mix proportion was determined using the Taguchi-Grey relational analysis method. The pH variation of the pore solution, shrinkage/expansion, and hydration products of the optimal hardened slurry were evaluated using simplified ex-situ leaching (S-ESL), a length comparometer, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. The results demonstrate that the Bingham model effectively predicted the rheological properties of the MCSF64-based slurry. The optimum ratio for the MCSF64-based slurry was water/binder (W/B) ratio of 1.4, and the contents of NSP, AS and UEA by mass of binder were 1.9%, 3.6% and 4.8%, respectively. The optimal mix exhibited a pH value below 11 after curing for 120 days. The addition of AS and UEA facilitated hydration, shortened the initial setting time, improved early shear strength, and enhanced the expansion ability of the optimal mix under water curing conditions.
