Injured or atrophied adult skeletal muscles are regenerated through terminal differentiation of satellite cells to form multinucleated muscle fibers. Transplantation of satellite cells or cultured myoblasts has been used to improve skeletal muscle regeneration. Some of the limitations observed result from the limited number of available satellite cells that can be harvested and the efficiency of fusion of cultured myoblasts with mature muscle fibers (i.e., terminal differentiation) upon transplantation. However, the possible use of immature myotubes in the middle of the terminal differentiation process instead of satellite cells or cultured myoblasts has not been thoroughly investigated. Herein, myoblasts (Mb) or immature myotubes on differentiation day 2 (D2 immature myotubes) or 3 (D3 immature myotubes) were transferred to plates containing D2 or D3 immature myotubes as host cells. The transferred Mb/immature myotubes on the plates were further co-differentiated with host immature myotubes into mature myotubes in six conditions: Mb-to-D2, D2-to-D2, D3-to-D2, Mb-to-D3, D2-to-D3, and D3-to-D3. Among these six co-differentiation conditions, the D2-to-D3 co-differentiation condition exhibited the most characteristic myotube appearance and the greatest availability of Ca2+ for skeletal muscle contraction. Compared with non-co-differentiated control myotubes, D2-to-D3 co-differentiated myotubes presented increased MyoD and myosin heavy chain II (MyHC II) expression and increased myotube width, accompanied by parallel and swirling alignment. These increases correlated with functional increases in both electrically induced intracellular Ca2+ release and extracellular Ca2+ entry due to the increased expression of ryanodine receptor 1 (RyR1), sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase 1a (SERCA1a), and stromal interaction molecule 1 (STIM1). These increases were not detected in any of the other co-differentiation conditions. These results suggest that in vitro-cultured D2-to-D3 co-differentiated mature myotubes could be a good alternative source of satellite cells or cultured myoblasts for skeletal muscle regeneration. Sialic acid is a diverse group of monosaccharides often found on the termini of N- and O-linked glycans as well as being components of glycoconjugates. Hypersialylation has been associated with the progression of chronic inflammation-mediated diseases such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. Given its role in infection and disease-related processes, sialic acid is a promising target for therapeutic approaches that utilize carbohydrate-binding molecules. In this study, we screened for sialic acid-recognizing variable lymphocyte receptors (VLRBs) or ccombodies from inshore hagfish (Eptatretus burgeri) using a synthetic Neu5Ac-glycoconjugate as an antigen in immunoassay. Resulting ccombodies, 2D8, 5G11, 4A1, and 5F8 were further characterized in terms of their binding activity and specificity. A competitive ELISA using free haptens showed strong inhibition using either N-acetylneuraminic acid (Neu5Ac) and N-glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc). The half-maximal inhibitory concentrations (IC50) for Neu5Ac ranged from 7.02 to 17.06 mM, with candidates 4A1 and 5G11 requiring the least and highest amounts, respectively. IC50 values for Neu5Gc ranged from 8.12 to 13.91 mM, for 4A1 and 5G11, respectively. Candidate ccombodies also detected naturally occurring sialic acid from known sialoglycoproteins using a dot blot assay. Neu5Gc-5G11 and Neu5Ac-2D8 yielded the strongest and weakest docking interactions with affinity values of −5.9 kcal/mol and −4.9 kcal/mol, respectively. Hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions were predicted to be the predominant noncovalent forces observed between the ccombodies and sialic acid. This study demonstrates that glycan-binding VLRBs from hagfish hold promise in augmenting the glycobiologists' toolkit in investigating the roles of glycans in human and animal health and disease. Despite major breakthroughs in facial recognition technology, problems with bias and a lack of diversity still plague face recognition systems today. To address these issues, we created synthetic face data using a diffusion-based generative model and fine-tuned already-high-performing models. To achieve a more balanced overall performance across various races, the synthetic dataset was created by following the dual-condition face generator (DCFace) resolution and using race-varied data from BUPT-BalancedFace as well as FairFace. To verify the proposed method, we fine-tuned a pre-trained improved residual networks (IResnet)-100 model with additive angular margin (ArcFace) loss using the synthetic dataset. The results show that the racial gap in performance is reduced from 0.0107 to 0.0098 in standard deviation terms, while the overall accuracy increases from 96.125% to 96.1625%. The improved racial balance and diversity in the synthetic dataset led to an improvement in model fairness, demonstrating that this resource could facilitate more equitable face recognition systems. This method provides a low-cost way to address data diversity challenges and help make face recognition more accurate across different demographic groups. The results of the study highlighted that more advanced synthesized datasets, created through diffusion-based models, can also result in increased facial recognition accuracy with greater fairness, emphasizing that these should not be ignored by developers aiming to create artificial intelligence (AI) systems. Patients suffering from Parkinson's disease suffer from voice impairment. In this study, we introduce models to classify normal and Parkinson's patients using their speech. We used an AST (audio spectrogram transformer), a transformer-based speech classification model that has recently outperformed CNN-based models in many fields, and a CNN-based PSLA (pretraining, sampling, labeling, and aggregation), a high-performance model in the existing speech classification field, for the study. This study compares and analyzes the models from both quantitative and qualitative perspectives. First, qualitatively, PSLA outperformed AST by more than 4% in accuracy, and the AUC was also higher, with 94.16% for AST and 97.43% for PSLA. Furthermore, we qualitatively evaluated the ability of the models to capture the acoustic features of Parkinson's through various CAM (class activation map)-based XAI (eXplainable AI) models such as GradCAM and EigenCAM. Based on PSLA, we found that the model focuses well on the muffled frequency band of Parkinson's speech, and the heatmap analysis of false positives and false negatives shows that the speech features are also visually represented when the model actually makes incorrect predictions. The contribution of this paper is that we not only found a suitable model for diagnosing Parkinson's through speech using two different types of models but also validated the predictions of the model in practice. The efficient dispersion of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) has been the subject of extensive research over the past decade. Despite these efforts, achieving individually dispersed SWCNTs at high concentrations remains challenging. In this study, we address the limitations associated with conventional methods, such as defect formation, excessive surfactant use, and the use of corrosive solvents. Our novel dispersion method utilizes the spontaneous charging of SWCNTs in a solvated electron system created by dissolving potassium in hexamethyl phosphoramide (HMPA). The resulting charged SWCNTs (c-SWCNTs) can be directly dispersed in the charging medium using only magnetic stirring, leading to defect-free c-SWCNT dispersions with high concentrations of up to 20 mg/mL. The successful dispersion of individual c-SWCNT strands is confirmed by their liquid-crystalline behavior. Importantly, the dispersion medium for c-SWCNTs exhibits no reactivity with metals, polymers, or other organic solvents. This versatility enables a wide range of applications, including electrically conductive free-standing films produced via conventional blade coating, wet-spun fibers, membrane electrodes, thermal composites, and core-shell hybrid microparticles. Recently, several clinical studies have been conducted using microneedles (MNs), and various devices have been developed. This study aimed to propose and confirm the feasibility of a placebo control for activating MN clinical research. A 0.5 mm MN stamp with 42 needles was used as a treatment intervention, and a placebo stamp with four acupressure-type needles that did not penetrate was proposed and designed as a control for comparison. First, to check whether the placebo stamp did not invade the skin and to set an appropriate level of pressure to be provided during skin stimulation, two participants were stimulated with five different forces on the forearm, and then the skin was dyed. Secondly, to evaluate the validity of the placebo control group, a blinded study between the MN and placebo stamps was performed on 15 participants. We confirmed that the placebo stamp did not penetrate the skin at any intensity or location. Both types of stamps reported relatively low pain levels, but the MN stamp induced higher pain compared to the placebo stamp. Based on the speculation regarding the type of intervention received, the MN stamp was successfully blinded (random guess), whereas the placebo stamp was unblinded. However, according to a subgroup analysis, it was confirmed that the group with low skin sensitivity was completely blind. Blinding the placebo MN stamp had limited success in participants with low skin sensitivity. This study introduces a data-driven and machine-learning approach to design a personalized tourist recommendation system for Nepal. It examines key tourist attributes, such as demographics, behaviors, preferences, and satisfaction, to develop four sub-models for data collection and machine learning. A structured survey is conducted with 2400 international and domestic tourists, featuring 28 major questions and 125 variables. The data are preprocessed, and significant features are extracted to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the machine-learning models. These models are evaluated using metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, F-score, ROC, and lift curves. A comprehensive database for Pokhara City, Nepal, is developed from various sources that includes attributes such as location, cost, popularity, rating, ranking, and trend. The machine-learning models provide intermediate categorical recommendations, which are further mapped using a personalized recommender algorithm. This algorithm makes decisions based on weights assigned to each decision attribute to make the final recommendations. The system's performance is compared with other popular recommender systems implemented by TripAdvisor, Google Maps, the Nepal tourism website, and others. It is found that the proposed system surpasses existing ones, offering more accurate and optimized recommendations to visitors in Pokhara. A spectral image analysis has the potential to replace traditional approaches for assessing plant responses to different types of stresses, including herbicides, through non-destructive and high-throughput screening (HTS). Therefore, this study was conducted to develop a rapid bioassay method using a multi-well plate and spectral image analysis for the diagnosis of herbicide activity and modes of action. Crabgrass (Digitaria ciliaris), as a model weed, was cultivated in multi-well plates and subsequently treated with six herbicides (paraquat, tiafenacil, penoxsulam, isoxaflutole, glufosinate, and glyphosate) with different modes of action when the crabgrass reached the 1-leaf stage, using only a quarter of the recommended dose. To detect the plant's response to herbicides, plant spectral images were acquired after herbicide treatment using RGB, infrared (IR) thermal, and chlorophyll fluorescence (CF) sensors and analyzed for diagnosing herbicide efficacy and modes of action. A principal component analysis (PCA), using all spectral data, successfully distinguished herbicides and clustered depending on their modes of action. The performed experiments showed that the multi-well plate assay combined with a spectral image analysis can be successfully applied for herbicide bioassays. In addition, the use of spectral image sensors, especially CF images, would facilitate HTS by enabling the rapid observation of herbicide responses at as early as 3 h after herbicide treatment. Levodropropizine is a non-narcotic, non-centrally acting antitussive that inhibits the cough reflex triggered by neuropeptides. Despite the active clinical application of levodropropizine, the exploration of its inter-individual pharmacokinetic diversity and of factors that can interpret it is lacking. The purpose of this study was to explore effective covariates associated with variation in the pharmacokinetics of levodropropizine within the population and to perform an interpretation of covariate correlations from a therapeutic perspective. The results of a levodropropizine clinical trial conducted on 40 healthy Korean men were used in this pharmacokinetic analysis, and the calculated pharmacokinetic and physiochemical parameters were screened for effective correlations between factors through heatmap and linear regression analysis. Along with basic compartmental modeling, a correlation analysis was performed between the model-estimated parameter values and the discovered effective candidate covariates for levodropropizine, and the degree of toxicity and safety during the clinical trial of levodropropizine was quantitatively monitored, targeting the hepatotoxicity screening panel. As a result, eosinophil level and body surface area (BSA) were explored as significant (p-value < 0.05) physiochemical parameters associated with the pharmacokinetic diversity of levodropropizine. Specifically, it was confirmed that as eosinophil level and BSA increased, levodropropizine plasma exposure increased and decreased, respectively. Interestingly, changes in an individual's plasma exposure to levodropropizine depending on eosinophil levels could be interpreted as a therapeutic advantage based on pharmacokinetic benefits linked to the clinical indications for levodropropizine. This study presents effective candidate covariates that can explain the inter-individual pharmacokinetic variability of levodropropizine and provides a useful perspective on the first-line choice of levodropropizine in the treatment of inflammatory respiratory diseases. Currently, there is insufficient information on the variability in levocetirizine pharmacometrics among individuals, a crucial aspect for establishing its clinical use. The gender differences in pharmacokinetics and the extent of variation in pharmacodynamics have not been definitively identified. The primary goal of this study was to investigate gender differences in levocetirizine pharmacokinetics and quantitatively predict and compare how these gender-related pharmacokinetic differences impact pharmacodynamics, using population pharmacokinetic–pharmacodynamic modeling. Bioequivalence results for levocetirizine (only from the control formulation) were obtained from both healthy Korean men and women. Physiological and biochemical parameters for each individual were utilized as pharmacokinetic comparison and modeling data between genders. Pharmacodynamic modeling was performed using reported data on antihistamine responses following levocetirizine exposure. Gender, weight, body surface area, peripheral distribution volume, albumin, central–peripheral inter-compartmental clearance, and the fifth sequential absorption rate constant were explored as effective covariates. A comparison of the model simulation results showed a higher maximum concentration and faster plasma loss in females than in males, resulting in a faster recovery to baseline of the antihistamine effect; however, the absolute differences between genders in the mean values were not large within 10 ng/mL (for plasma concentrations) or % (wheal and flare size changes). Regarding the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of levocetirizine, the gender effect may not be significant when applying the usual dosage (5 mg/day). This study will be useful for bridging the knowledge gap in scientific precision medicine by introducing previously unconfirmed information regarding gender differences in levocetirizine pharmacometrics. The present study investigated the effects of sprouted barley (SB) with different cultivation stages on fermentation characteristics and degradation kinetics in the rumen. The SB was cultivated in three different stages as follows: 0, 4, and 8 days. Dried samples from each cultivation stage of SB were incubated in the rumen buffer at 39 °C for 48 h in quadruplicate with three blanks. Dry matter (DM) and neutral detergent soluble carbohydrate concentrations of SB decreased linearly (p = 0.001) by increasing the cultivation stage, while crude protein, neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber, and hemicellulose concentrations increased linearly (p ≤ 0.001). Total volatile fatty acid and butyrate in the rumen decreased linearly (p ≤ 0.020) by increasing the cultivation stage, while pH and propionate increased linearly (p < 0.001). The total degradation fraction of DM and NDF increased quadratically (p ≤ 0.003). The fraction degradation rate of DM and NDF decreased linearly (p ≤ 0.001) by increasing the cultivation stage, while the lag phase increased linearly (p ≤ 0.010). The present study concluded that cultivated SB at 4 days was recommended for animal feed due to the highest nutrient degradation in the rumen without any adverse effects on fermentation characteristics. This study numerically investigated the combustion instability and characteristics of a laboratory-scale gaseous hydrogen-fueled scramjet combustor. For this purpose, a numerical simulation with an improved detached eddy simulation and a detailed hydrogen/oxygen reaction mechanism was performed. The numerical framework used high-resolution schemes with high-order accuracy to ensure high resolution and fidelity. A total of five fuel injection pressures were considered to characterize the combustion instability as a function of the equivalence ratio. A sampling time of up to 100 ms was considered to sufficiently accumulate several cycles of low-frequency combustion instability dynamics with a period in the order of 100 Hz. Numerical results revealed the repetitive formation/dissipation dynamics of the upstream-traveling shock wave, and it acts as a key factor of combustion instability. The period and derived principal frequency of these upstream-traveling shock waves is several ms. The frequency analysis showed that the instability frequency increased in the low-frequency range as the combustion mode transitioned from the cavity shear-layer to the jet-wake type. This characteristic was derived from the transition in combustion mode at the same equivalence ratio. Therefore, it suggests that the instability frequency shifting is governed by the combustion mode rather than the equivalence ratio. These comprehensive numerical results demonstrated not only the effect of the equivalence ratio but also the important role of the combustion mode on the low-frequency combustion instability. Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that inhibits gastric acid production and increases gastric pH; it is widely used clinically as a treatment option for gastritis and gastric ulcers. However, information on the inter-individual variability of rabeprazole pharmacometrics, which is a key element in establishing its scientific clinical use, is still lacking. Particularly, the differences in pharmacokinetics between genders and the degree of variation in pharmacodynamics have not been clearly identified. Thus, the main purpose of this study was to explore any differences in rabeprazole pharmacokinetics between genders and to quantitatively predict and compare the effects of any differences in pharmacokinetics between genders on known pharmacodynamics using population pharmacokinetic–pharmacodynamic modeling. To compare pharmacokinetics and modeling data between genders, bioequivalence results were used simultaneously on healthy Korean men and women using the physiological and biochemical parameters derived from each individual. Pharmacodynamic modeling was performed based on the data of previously reported gastric pH changes in response to rabeprazole plasma concentrations, which was co-linked to the central compartmental bioavailable concentration in the population pharmacokinetic model. There was no significant difference in the level of rabeprazole exposure and elimination of plasma between genders following oral administration of 10 mg enteric-coated rabeprazole tablets; however, there was a clear delay in absorption in women compared to men. Additionally, a comparison of pharmacokinetic parameters normalized to body weight between genders showed that the maximum plasma concentrations were significantly higher in women than in men, again suggesting gender differences in rabeprazole absorption. The population pharmacokinetic profiles for rabeprazole were described using a three-sequential multi-absorption with lag time (Tlag) two-compartment model, whereas body surface area and gender were explored as effective covariates for absorption rate constant and Tlag, respectively. The effect of increased gastric pH due to plasma exposure to rabeprazole was explained using the Sigmoid Emax model, with the baseline as a direct response. The significantly longer rabeprazole Tlag in females delayed the onset of an effect by an average of 1.58 times (2.02–3.20 h), yet the overall and maximum effects did not cause a significant difference within 15%. In the relative comparison of the overall efficacy of rabeprazole enteric-coated tablet administration between genders, it was predicted based on the model that males would have higher efficacy. This study will be very useful in broadening the perspective of interpreting drug diversity between individuals and narrowing the gap in knowledge related to scientific precision medicine by presenting new information on gender differences in rabeprazole pharmacometrics that had not been previously identified. Although 3D printing technology has been applied worldwide, the problem of connecting a printed structure and a foundation has rarely been examined. In particular, loads in the horizontal direction, such as wind loads and earthquake loads, can significantly affect the stability of a printed structure. Therefore, in this study, the effect of lateral loads on printed columns that were connected to a foundation by two types of connectors was investigated. A steel angle with bolts and couplers was used to connect the printed column to a concrete footing. In addition, two types of lateral reinforcement were applied to the printed column to enhance its bonding strength and shear resistance. The lateral reinforcements were attached to the interface of the printed layers at distances of 100 and 200 mm to investigate the effect of lateral reinforcement distance on the lateral behavior of the printed column. The results showed that the use of couplers as connections between the columns and foundation significantly improved the load capacity. Tripartite motif-containing protein 32 (TRIM32) is a member of the tripartite motif family and is highly conserved from flies to humans. Via its E3 ubiquitin ligase activity, TRIM32 mediates and regulates many physiological and pathophysiological processes, such as growth, differentiation, muscle regeneration, immunity, and carcinogenesis. TRIM32 plays multifunctional roles in the maintenance of skeletal muscle. Genetic variations in the TRIM32 gene are associated with skeletal muscular dystrophies in humans, including limb–girdle muscular dystrophy type 2H (LGMD2H). LGMD2H-causing genetic variations of TRIM32 occur most frequently in the C-terminal NHL (ncl-1, HT2A, and lin-41) repeats of TRIM32. LGMD2H is characterized by skeletal muscle dystrophy, myopathy, and atrophy. Surprisingly, most patients with LGMD2H show minimal or no dysfunction in other tissues or organs, despite the broad expression of TRIM32 in various tissues. This suggests more prominent roles for TRIM32 in skeletal muscle than in other tissues or organs. This review is focused on understanding the physiological roles of TRIM32 in skeletal muscle, the pathophysiological mechanisms mediated by TRIM32 genetic variants in LGMD2H patients, and the correlations between TRIM32 and Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). This experimental investigation focused on the ignition and combustion characteristics of a tandem cavity-based scramjet combustor with side-by-side identical cavities. This study utilized the Pusan National University-direct connect scramjet combustor (PNU-DCSC), which was capable of simulating flight conditions at Mach number 4.0–5.0 and altitudes of 20–25 km using the vitiated air heater (VAH). The combustion tests were conducted under off-design point conditions corresponding to low inlet enthalpy. It is a condition in which self-ignition does not occur, and a micro pulse detonation engine (μPDE) ignitor is used. The results revealed that as the injection pressure of the gaseous hydrogen fuel (GH2) and the corresponding equivalence ratio increased, the combustion mode transitioned from the cavity-shear layer flame to the jet-wake flame. Furthermore, the measured wall static pressure profiles along the isolator and scramjet combustor indicated that the region of elevated pressure distribution caused by the shock train expanded upstream with higher equivalence ratios. When ignited from the secondary cavity, the combustion area did not extend to the primary cavity at lower equivalence ratios, while it expanded upstream faster with higher equivalence ratios. The number of corn cultivars that have been improved using genetically modified technology continues to increase. However, concerns about the unintentional release of living-modified organisms (LMOs) into the environment still exist. Specifically, there are cases where LMO crops grown as fodder are released into the environment and form a volunteer plant community, which raises concerns about their safety. In this study, we analyzed the possibility of weediness and volunteer plants' occurrence when GMO fodder corn grains distributed in Korea are unintentionally released into the environment. Volunteer plants' occurrence was investigated by directly sowing grains in an untreated field. The results showed that the germination rate was extremely low, and even if a corn seed germinated, it could not grow into an adult plant and would die due to weed competition. In addition, the germination rate of edible and fodder grains was affected by temperature (it was high at 20 °C and 30 °C but low at 40 °C and extremely low at 10 °C), and it was higher in the former than in the latter. And the germination rate was higher in Daehakchal (edible corn grains) than in Gwangpyeongok (fodder corn grains). The environmental risk assessment data obtained in this study can be used for future evaluations of the weediness potential of crops and the development of volunteer plant suppression technology in response to unintentional GMO release. In terms of sustainable power semiconductors, the embedding of an electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection circuit in an integrated circuit (IC) is an important aspect. In order for the semiconductor circuit to operate continuously or stably, a sufficient protection circuit against external surges must be configured. The purpose of this thesis is not only to effectively operate the low-dropout (LDO) regulator according to the load current, but to also secure high reliability against ESD situations by embedding an ESD protection circuit at the IC level. Moreover, the existence and nonexistence of an ESD protection circuit at the IC level is directly related to reliability. The proposed LDO regulator has high reliability against ESD situations using an embedded silicon controlled rectifier (SCR)-based ESD protection circuit in the I/O clamp and power clamp. The results revealed that the LDO regulator can not only effectively control the output voltage according to the load current, but it can also stably maintain the output voltage against the ESD surge. Moreover, the proposed LDO regulator with an embedded ESD protection circuit implemented in a 0.13 μm BCD process maintained an undershoot voltage of 21 mV and overshoot voltage of 19 mV for a load current of 300 mA. Simple Summary: The detection of specific genomic alterations is growing in importance for therapeutic decision-making in advanced prostate cancer. Traditional methods using tumor tissue samples can be challenging for prostate cancer, as the disease is often characterized by an extended disease history and a propensity for metastasis to the bone. Given the circumstances, liquid biopsy can be an attractive alternative. In this study, we evaluated the clinical usefulness of a liquid biopsy using blood samples instead of tumor tissues. The results showed that the liquid biopsy was able to evaluate cancer-related genomic changes in most patients, and it successfully detected clinically important mutations, exhibiting the high sensitivity of liquid biopsy compared to the tissue sequencing results. The liquid biopsy also enabled a genomic evaluation in cases where it would have been not possible using only archived tumor tissue samples. This study suggests that a liquid biopsy can be a good option for checking gene changes in advanced prostate cancer patients. Traditional tissue-based assessments of genomic alterations in castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) can be challenging. To evaluate the real-world clinical utility of liquid biopsies for the evaluation of genomic alterations in CRPC, we preemptively collected available plasma samples and archival tissue samples from patients that were being treated for clinically confirmed CRPC. The cell-free DNA (cfDNA) and tumor tissue DNA were analyzed using the AlphaLiquid®100-HRR panel. Plasma samples from a total of 87 patients were included in this study. Somatic mutations from cfDNA were detected in 78 (89.7%) patients, regardless of the presence of overt metastasis or concomitant treatment given at the time of plasma sample collection. Twenty-three patients were found to have known deleterious somatic or germline mutations in HRR genes from their cfDNA. Archival tissue samples from 33 (37.9%) patients were available for comparative analysis. Tissue sequencing was able to yield an NGS result in only 51.5% of the tissue samples. The general sensitivity of cfDNA for detecting somatic mutations in tissues was 71.8%, but important somatic/germline mutations in HRR genes were found to have a higher concordance (100%). In colonoscopy, computer vision and artificial intelligence technology have enabled the automatic detection of the location of polyps and their visualization. These advancements have facilitated considerable research in the field. However, deep learning models used in the segmentation problem for capturing various patterns of polyps are becoming increasingly complex, which has rendered their operation in real time difficult. To identify and overcome this problem, a study was conducted on a model capable of precise polyp segmentation while increasing its processing speed. First, an efficient, high-performance, and lightweight model suitable for the segmentation of polyps was sought; the performance of existing segmentation models was compared and combined to obtain a learning model that exhibited good accuracy and speed. Next, hyperparameters were found for the MobileNetV3-encoder-based DeepLabV3+ model and, after tuning the hyperparameters, quantitative and qualitative results were compared, and the final model was selected. The experimental results showed that this model achieved high accuracy, with a Dice coefficient of 93.79%, while using a limited number of parameters and computational resources. Specifically, the model used 6.18 million parameters and 1.623 giga floating point operations for the CVC-ClinicDB dataset. This study revealed that increasing the amount of computation and parameters of the model did not guarantee unconditional performance. Furthermore, for the search and removal of polyps in cases in which morphological information is critical, an efficient model with low model complexity and high accuracy was proposed for real-time segmentation. In this paper, we propose a platform for an insect-like flapping winged micro aerial vehicle with a resonant wing-driving system using extension springs (FMAVRES). The resonant wing-driving system is constructed using an extension spring instead of the conventional helical or torsion spring. The extension spring can be mounted more easily, compared with a torsion spring. Furthermore, the proposed resonant driving system has better endurance compared with systems with torsion springs. Using a prototype FMAVRES, it was found that torques generated for roll, pitch, and yaw control are linear to control input signals. Considering transient responses, each torque response as an actuator is modelled as a simple first-order system. Roll, pitch, and yaw control commands affect each other. They should be compensated in a closed loop controller design. Total weight of the prototype FMAVRES is 17.92 g while the lift force of it is 21.3 gf with 80% throttle input. Zaltoprofen is a drug used for various pain and inflammatory diseases. Scientific and quantitative dosage regimen studies regarding its clinical application are scarce. This study aimed to discover effective covariates related to interindividual pharmacokinetic variability through population pharmacokinetic modeling for zaltoprofen and to explore dosage regimens. The bioequivalence results of healthy Korean males, biochemical analysis, and CYP2C9 genotyping information were utilized in modeling. The established model has been sufficiently verified through a bootstrap, goodness-of-fit, visual predictive check, and normalized prediction distribution error. External data sets derived from the literature were used for further model validation. The final model could be used to verify the dosage regimen through multiple exposure simulations according to the numerical change of the selected covariates. Zaltoprofen pharmacokinetics could be explained by a two-compartment with a first-order absorption model. Creatinine clearance (CrCL) and albumin were identified as effective covariates related to interindividual zaltoprofen pharmacokinetic variability, and they had positive and negative correlations with clearance (CL/F), respectively. The differences in pharmacokinetics between individuals according to CYP2C9 genetic polymorphisms (*1/*1 and *1/*3) were not significant or valid covariates. The model simulation confirmed that zaltoprofen pharmacokinetics could significantly differ as the CrCL and albumin levels changed within the normal range. Steady-state plasma exposure to zaltoprofen was significantly reduced in the group with CrCL and albumin levels of 130 mL/min and 3.5 g/dL, respectively, suggesting that dose adjustment may be necessary. Torsemide is a widely used diuretic in clinical practice. In this study, pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) simulations of torsemide for various population groups and exposure scenarios were performed through human-scale physiologically-based PK-PD (PBPK-PD) modeling of torsemide. For PBPK-PD modeling of torsemide, invitro and clinical data of torsemide reported previously were used. After exposure to clinical doses of torsemide, observed plasma (or serum) concentration and urine torsemide excretion profiles were used as PK-data, and observed urinary sodium excretion rate was used as PD-data. The model was then extended to take into account physiological and biochemical factors according to different CYP2C9 phenotypes or patient populations. The established model captured various torsemide clinical results well. Differences in torsemide PKs and PDs between patient groups or CYP2C9 genetic polymorphisms were modelologically identified. It was confirmed that degrees of differences in torsemide PKs and PDs by disease groups were greater than those according to different CYP2C9 phenotypes. According to torsemide administration frequency or dose change, it was confirmed that although the difference in plasma PKs between groups (healthy adult and patient groups) could increase to 14.80 times, the difference in PDs was reduced to 1.01 times. Results of this study suggested that it is very important to consider disease groups in the setting of torsemide clinical therapy and that it is difficult to predict PD proportionally with only differences in PKs of torsemide between population groups. This paper proposes an algorithm that improves ship detection accuracy using preprocessing and post-processing. To achieve this, high-resolution electro-optical satellite images with a wide range of shape and texture information were considered. The developed algorithms display the problem of unreliable detection of ships owing to clouds, large waves, weather influences, and shadows from large terrains. False detections in land areas with image information similar to that of ships are observed frequently. Therefore, this study involves three algorithms: global feature enhancement pre-processing (GFEP), multiclass ship detector (MSD), and false detected ship exclusion by sea land segmentation image (FDSESI). First, GFEP enhances the image contrast of high-resolution electro-optical satellite images. Second, the MSD extracts many primary ship candidates. Third, falsely detected ships in the land region are excluded using the mask image that divides the sea and land. A series of experiments was performed using the proposed method on a database of 1984 images. The database includes five ship classes. Therefore, a method focused on improving the accuracy of various ships is proposed. Recent advancements in the Internet of Things and Machine Learning techniques have allowed the deployment of sensors on a large scale to monitor the environment and model and predict individual thermal comfort. The existing techniques have a greater focus on occupancy detection, estimations, and localization to balance energy usage and thermal comfort satisfaction. Different sensors, actuators, and analytic data methods are often non-invasively utilized to analyze data from occupant surroundings, identify occupant existence, estimate their numbers, and trigger the necessary action to complete a task. The efficiency of the non-invasive strategies documented in the literature, on the other hand, is rather poor due to the low quality of the datasets utilized in model training and the selection of machine learning technology. This study combines data from camera and environmental sensing using interactive learning and a rule-based classifier to improve the collection and quality of the datasets and data pre-processing. The study compiles a new comprehensive public set of training datasets for building occupancy profile prediction with over 40,000 records. To the best of our knowledge, it is the largest dataset to date, with the most realistic and challenging setting in building occupancy prediction. Furthermore, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that attained a robust occupancy count by considering a multimodal input to a single output regression model through the mining and mapping of feature importance, which has advantages over statistical approaches. The proposed solution is tested in a living room with a prototype system integrated with various sensors to obtain occupant-surrounding environmental datasets. The model's prediction results indicate that the proposed solution can obtain data, and process and predict the occupants' presence and their number with high accuracy values of 99.7% and 99.35%, respectively, using random forest. This study investigates the strength and permeability properties of pervious concrete-containing coal bottom ash (CBA) aggregates. Two pervious concrete mixtures were fabricated with different aggregate size distributions. One mixture contained CBA aggregates with a single-type distribution and the other mixture contained CBA aggregates with a hybrid-type distribution. The test parameters of the CBA pervious concrete included the water/cement (W/C) ratio and compaction level to investigate their effects on the properties. W/C ratios of 0.25, 0.30, and 0.35 were considered for the mixture, and compaction levels of 0.5, 1.5, and 3.0 MPa were applied to fabricate the pervious specimen. The increase in the W/C ratio reduced the strength by approximately 20% to 30% of the CBA pervious concrete. The increase in the compaction level reduced the permeability by approximately four to five times but significantly increased the strength of the CBA pervious concrete. The test results indicate that the use of single-type CBA or hybrid CBA aggregates with different size distributions affected the properties of the pervious concrete. The strength of specimens, including hybrid CBA aggregates, was 30% to 45% greater than that of the specimens containing single-type CBA aggregates. Meanwhile, the use of hybrid CBA aggregates reduced the permeability of the CBA pervious concrete by approximately 20% to 35%. Finally, relationships between the strength properties, permeability characteristics and total void ratios of the CBA pervious concrete specimens are suggested based on the test results. In an aging global society, a few complex problems have been occurring due to falls among the increasing elderly population. Therefore, falls are detected using a pendant-type sensor that can be worn comfortably for fall detection. The sensed data are processed by the embedded environment and classified by a long-term memory (LSTM). A fall detection system that combines a simple threshold method (STM) and LSTM, the STM-LSTM-based fall detection system, is introduced. In terms of training data accuracy, the proposed STM-LSTM-based fall detection system is compared with the previously reported STM-hidden Markov model (HMM)-based fall detection system. The training accuracy of the STM-LSTM fall detection system is 100%, while the highest training accuracy by the STM-HMM-based one is 99.5%, which is 0.5% less than the best of the STM-LSTM-based system. In addition, in the optimized LSTM fall detection system, this may be overfitted because all data are trained without separating any validation data. In order to resolve the possible overfitting issue, training and validation data are evaluated separately in 4:1, and then in terms of validation data accuracy of the STM-LSTM-based fall detection system, optimal values of the parameters in LSTM and normalization method are found as follows: best accuracy of 98.21% at no-normalization, no-sampling, 128hidden layer nodes, and regularization rate of 0.015. It is also observed that as the number of hidden layer nodes or sampling interval increases, the regularization rate at the highest value of accuracy increases. This means that overfitting can be suppressed by increasing the regularization, and thus an appropriate number of hidden layer nodes and a regularization rate must be selected to improve the fall detection efficiency. Simple Summary: Around 248,530 newly diagnosed in 2021, prostate cancer has been the most frequently diagnosed cancer in the USA. Rapid decellularization preserving acellular tissues is essential for accurate treatment and regeneration in affected areas. Our study aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of high-frequency pulsed electric field (HF-PEF) in a beagle model for the treatment of prostate cancer. We confirmed that HF-PEF of 1800 V/cm, 100 μs width, 2 ms interval successfully decellularized the prostate tissue after 4 hours, and the tissues were almost regenerated in 28 days. IRE with HF-PEF has therapeutic potential to treat prostate cancer while minimizing damage to the surrounding tissues. Conventional irreversible electroporation (IRE) with low-frequency pulsed electric field (LF-PEF) is used to induce cell death; however, it has several disadvantages including a long procedure time and severe muscle contraction due to high-voltage electric field. This study investigates a novel IRE protocol with high-frequency pulsed electric field (HF-PEF) of 500 Hz repetition to ablate the prostate tissue in beagles for treatment of prostate cancer. A finite element analysis was performed to validate optimal electrical field strength for the procedure. In total, 12 beagles received HF-PEF of 500 Hz and were sacrificed at 4 h, 4 days, and 28 days (3 each). The remaining three beagles underwent sham procedure. The outcomes of HF-PEF were assessed by histological responses. HF-PEF successfully decellularized the prostate tissues 4 h after the treatment. The prostate glands, duct, and urethra were well preserved after IRE with HF-PEF. The ablated prostatic tissues were gradually regenerated and appeared similar to the original tissues 28 d after IRE with HF-PEF. Moreover, electrocardiography and hematology demonstrated that IRE with HF-PEF did not seriously affect the cardiac tissue. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology has attracted increasing attention as global climate change accelerates. Carbon dioxide removal processes under development include pressure swing adsorption (PSA) and chemical absorption using amine solvents. In this paper, an ammonia solvent, which is relatively inexpensive and has good material properties, was used instead of amines in the carbon dioxide removal process simulation as a chemical absorption method. This simulation used the eNRTL thermodynamics model which has the advantage of predicting ions in the liquid phase in Aspen Plus. A case study (Case Study 1) was conducted to verify the validity of the thermodynamic model. The purpose of this research was to find the operating conditions to eliminate more than 90% of the carbon dioxide contained in the flue gas from coal-fired power stations, and to lower heat duty and operating cost conditions. A second case study (Case Study 2) was conducted to find the operating conditions by comparing various process operating conditions. Additionally, this paper determined lower operating cost conditions by manipulating the amount of steam and cooling water. The results showed that the heater's outlet temperature should be set at under 80 ℃ to lower the operating costs. As a result of changing the flow rate of the side stream of the split flow process, energy consumption was reduced when compared to the conventional flow process. It was shown that the split flow is a superior process with 10.24% less energy use than the conventional flow. In this study, the split flow process achieved an energy saving advantage when compared to the conventional flow process, and a carbon dioxide removal rate of 95% was achieved. Porous concrete has recently gained increasing attention in the construction industry. To improve the properties of porous concrete, coal bottom ash (CBA) was used as the aggregate in the concrete mixtures studied herein. Hybrid CBA aggregates, including a 20% proportion of particles with sizes of 1.2~2.5 mm and an 80% proportion of particles with sizes of 2.5~5.0 mm, were used in the mixtures. Various water/cement ratios ranging from 0.25 to 0.35 were used in the mixtures. The effects of compaction at 0.5, 1.5, and 3.0 MPa on the properties of the porous concrete were also examined. The increase in the water/cement ratio reduced the unit weight and thermal conductivity while increasing the porosity of the porous concrete. Although the compaction had a significant impact on the other properties of the porous concrete, the thermal property was not significantly influenced. By using CBA in porous concrete, the mechanical and thermal properties of the concrete were significantly improved. To date, for the diagnosis of dentofacial dysmorphosis, we have relied almost entirely on reference points, planes, and angles. This is time consuming, and it is also greatly influenced by the skill level of the practitioner. To solve this problem, we wanted to know if deep neural networks could predict postoperative results of orthognathic surgery without relying on reference points, planes, and angles. We use three-dimensional point cloud data of the skull of 269 patients. The proposed method has two main stages for prediction. In step 1, the skull is divided into six parts through the segmentation network. In step 2, three-dimensional transformation parameters are predicted through the alignment network. The ground truth values of transformation parameters are calculated through the iterative closest points (ICP), which align the preoperative part of skull to the corresponding postoperative part of skull. We compare pointnet, pointnet++ and pointconv for the feature extractor of the alignment network. Moreover, we design a new loss function, which considers the distance error of transformed points for a better accuracy. The accuracy, mean intersection over union (mIoU), and dice coefficient (DC) of the first segmentation network, which divides the upper and lower part of skull, are 0.9998, 0.9994, and 0.9998, respectively. For the second segmentation network, which divides the lower part of skull into 5 parts, they were 0.9949, 0.9900, 0.9949, respectively. The mean absolute error of transverse, anterior–posterior, and vertical distance of part 2 (maxilla) are 0.765 mm, 1.455 mm, and 1.392 mm, respectively. For part 3 (mandible), they were 1.069 mm, 1.831 mm, and 1.375 mm, respectively, and for part 4 (chin), they were 1.913 mm, 2.340 mm, and 1.257 mm, respectively. Photoacoustic imaging using energy conversion from light to ultrasound waves has been developed as a powerful tool to investigate in vivo phenomena due to their complex characteristics. In photoacoustic imaging, endogenous chromophores such as oxygenated hemoglobin, deoxygenated hemoglobin, melanin, and lipid provide useful biomedical information at the molecular level. However, these intrinsic absorbers show strong absorbance only in visible or infrared optical windows and have limited light transmission, making them difficult to apply for clinical translation. Therefore, the development of novel exogenous contrast agents capable of increasing imaging depth while ensuring strong light absorption is required. We report here the application of carbon nanomaterials that exhibit unique physical, mechanical, and electrochemical properties as imaging probes in photoacoustic imaging. Classified into specific structures, carbon nanomaterials are synthesized with different substances according to the imaging purposes to modulate the absorption spectra and highly enhance photoacoustic signals. In addition, functional drugs can be loaded into the carbon nanomaterials composite, and effective in vivo monitoring and photothermal therapy can be performed with cell-specific targeting. This study estimated the effects of oil sources on fermentation characteristics, greenhouse gas, microbial diversity, and biohydrogenation of fatty acids in the rumen. In vitro ruminal incubation was performed with 7 mg of oil source, 15 mL rumen buffer, and 150 mg of synthetic diet at 39 °C for 0, 3, 6, 12, and 24 h. Oil sources consisted of corn oil (CO; linoleic acid (C18:2n-6)), linseed oil (LSO; linolenic acid (C18:3n-3)), or Ca-salts (protected C18:2n-6). The ruminal gas was collected for CH4 and CO2 analysis. Incubated rumen buffer was sub-sampled for the analysis of microbial quantification, fermentation characteristics, and fatty acid profiles. The results showed that Ca-salt increased acetate (p = 0.013), while CO increased propionate (p = 0.007). Fibrobacter succinogenes, Ruminococcus flavefaciens, and R. albus increased (p < 0.05) with Ca-salt after 12 h of incubation, while Streptococcus bovis increased (p < 0.05) by LSO. The CO and Ca-salt resulted in the highest C18:2n-6 (p = 0.002), while LSO resulted in the highest C18:3n-3 (p = 0.001). The Ca-salt had the lowest C18:0 (p = 0.002), but the highest C18:1cis-9 (p = 0.004). In conclusion, Ca-salt supplementation resisted biohydrogenation to some extent, decreased methanogenic archaea and protozoa, and exerted less toxic effects on fibrolytic bacteria. Expanded hemodialysis (HD) equipped with a medium cut-off (MCO) membrane provides superior removal of larger middle molecules. However, there is still little research on the long-term benefits of expanded HD. Over a three-year period, this observational study evaluated the efficacy and safety profile of expanded HD for inflammatory cytokines, including IL-6. We conducted a prospective cohort study to investigate the inflammatory cytokine changes and a retrospective observational cohort study to investigate long-term clinical efficacy and safety over a three-year period. We categorized the patients according to dialyzer used: MCO and high-flux (HF) dialyzer. The inflammatory cytokines, including IFN-γ, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α, were measured annually. The concentrations and changes of the four cytokines over time did not differ between the HF group (n = 15) and MCO group (n = 27). In both prospective and retrospective (HF group, n = 38; MCO group, n = 76) cohorts, there were no significant differences in either death, cardiovascular events, infections, or hospitalizations. Furthermore, the temporal changes in laboratory values, including serum albumin and erythropoietin prescriptions, did not differ significantly between the two groups in either the prospective or retrospective cohorts. In conclusion, clinical efficacy and safety outcomes, as well as inflammatory cytokines, did not differ with expanded HD compared with HF dialysis during a three-year treatment course, although the level of inflammatory cytokine was stable. Torsemide is a diuretic drug used for several cardiovascular and chronic diseases. With regard to the clinical application of torsemide, studies on individualized pharmacotherapy and modeling that take variability in pharmacokinetics (PKs) within a population into account have been rarely reported. Thus, the objective of this study was to perform population pharmacokinetic (Pop-PK) modeling and to identify effective covariates that could explain the inter-individual variability (IIV) of torsemide PK. Pop-PK modeling for torsemide was performed based on serum concentration data obtained from 112 healthy Korean males and analysis of various genetic and physicochemical parameters. Modeling was performed with nonlinear mixed-effects (NLME) using Phoenix NLME. The finally developed model was fully verified. The model was also reconfirmed using NONMEM software. As a basic model, the PKs of torsemide within the population were well described by a two-compartment model reflecting the lag-time on oral absorption. According to the genetic polymorphisms of OATP1B1 and CYP2C9, significant associations were found in the V/F, CL/F, and CL2/F of torsemide. These were reflected as effective covariates in the final Pop-PK model of torsemide, resulting in an approximately 5–10% improvement in the model parameter IIV values. Considering that torsemide is a substrate for CYP2C9 and OATP1B1, it was important to search for genetic polymorphisms in CYP2C9 and OATP1B1 as covariates to explain the PK diversity of torsemide between individuals. The differences in CL/F and CL2/F between the phenotypes of CYP2C9 were approximately 36.5–51%. The difference in V/F between the phenotypes of OATP1B1 was approximately 41–64.6%. These results suggested that the phenotypes of CYP2C9 and OATP1B1 produced significant differences in torsemide PKs. Considering that CYP2C9 and OATP1B1 phenotypes as covariates affected different PK parameters of torsemide, it could be inferred that torsemide's cell membrane permeation process by OATP1B1 and the metabolic process by CYP2C9 could independently affect each other in vivo without interplay. There was no significant difference in the parameter estimates between modeling software (Phoenix NLME vs. NONMEM). In this study, the torsemide PK variability between individuals was largely explained. Swine farming facilities have increased the production of malodorous gases, which negatively affects people. Hence, we developed a new feasible bio-foam technology wherein long-lasting surfactant foam, including bacteria, were sprayed on swine manure. The surfactant foam acted as a physical barrier, suppressing NH3 release, and the aqueous-phase bacteria formed after foam breaking infiltrated in manure and degraded NH3. In this study, we first isolated NH3-degrading bacteria from swine manure. A bacterial consortium was prepared using the effective NH3-degrading strains Saccharomyces cerevisiae NRRL Y-12632 (99.88%) (TP1), Lactococcus lactis subsp. hordniae NBRC100931T (99.93%) (TP3), and Lactobacillus argentoratensis DSM 16365T (100%) (TP5). The surfactant foam used in this study was a dry foam (foam quality 98.5–99.0% and foam density 0.025–0.026 g/cm3), with a foam expansion of 110–112 and high foamability. Large bubbles were generated with a bubble density of 1 bubble/cm2 and a foam lamella thickness of 0.12 mm. In a lab-scale study, foam was sprayed onto NH3-contaminated soil or real swine manure, which reduced the NH3 emission from the source (soil/manure) almost completely (97–100%), but NH3 was re-emitted after foam breaking (5 h: open reactor, 7 h: closed reactor). After loading the bacteria on the foam, the initial NH3 odor suppression was similar to that of the foam alone. However, NH3 was effectively reduced by microbial degradation even after foam breaking. Complete odor degradation was observed after 3 days (72 h; 90–100% reduction) for the NH3-contaminated soil, and 97.7% NH3 in the swine manure was reduced in 24 h. Abalone (Haliotis discus hannai) is a widely consumed seafood in Asian countries. Rich in protein, abalone is consumed for refreshment, pregnancy care, and vitality. Although many studies have found that abalone protein has beneficial effects, the efficiency of the protein extraction method for abalone has rarely been studied. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the effects of various factors of abalone protein extraction, including extraction buffer, sonication, salt (NaCl) concentration, surfactant, and heating. Phosphate buffer showed higher protein yield compared with Tris-HCl buffer. In addition, the highest protein yield for each factor was observed at 60 s of sonication (84.44 µg/mg dw), 0.6 M NaCl (141.9 µg/mg dw), and 16 mM sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) (253.15 µg/mg dw). However, a combined effect was not observed. Lower protein extraction efficiency was observed for sous vide-cooked abalone. The electrophoresis assay revealed myofibrillar proteins, including paramyosin, actin, and tropomyosin. Web systems evolve by adding new functionalities or modifying them to meet users' requirements. Web systems require retesting to ensure that existing functionalities are according to users' expectations. Retesting a web system is challenging due to high cost and time consumption. Existing 'systematic literature review' (SLR) studies do not comprehensively present the ontology-based regression testing approaches. Therefore, this study focuses on ontology-based regression testing approaches because ontologies have been a growing research solution in regression testing. Following this, a systematic search of studies was performed using the "Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses" (PRISMA) guidelines. A total of 24 peer-reviewed studies covering ontologies (semantic and inference rules) and regression testing, published between 2007 and 2019, were selected. The results showed that mainly ontology-based regression testing approaches were published in 2011–2012 and 2019 because ontology got momentum in research in other fields of study during these years. Furthermore, seven challenges to ontology-driven regression testing approaches are reported in the selected studies. Cost and validation are the main challenges examined in the research studies. The scalability of regression testing approaches has been identified as a common problem for ontology-based and other benchmark regression testing approaches. Irreversible electroporation (IRE) has gained attention for ablation owing to fewer side effects and fast recovery. However, a high current from the applied high voltage can cause muscle contraction. Adding cationic molecules has been introduced to lower electric field strengths and enhance IRE outcomes by inducing hyperpolarization across the cell plasma membrane. Near-infrared light (NIR) has recently been reported to induce hyperpolarization across membranes in a mode-dependent manner. In this study, we performed IRE in HeLa cells after exposure to 810 nm NIR irradiation. Preconditioning with NIR of 3 J/cm2 induced changes in membrane potential, resulting in approximately two times enhancement of apoptosis by IRE. The apoptotic signals were governed by the presence of BAX and p53 and were not related to excess oxidative stress. NIR has better spatial and temporal distribution control than chemicals and, therefore, can enhance the spatial selectivity and reduce the side effects of IRE treatment. The purpose of this article was to describe the benefits of a fully digital workflow and fabrication procedure of complete dentures based on digital impressions of edentulous jaws. The digital data for the workflow were acquired using an intraoral scanner and were then used to design the denture base and teeth. Arsenic in the soil can leach into groundwater and contaminate drinking water, posing a serious risk to human health. The stabilization of arsenic in contaminated soil is one of the immobilization technologies used to remediate contaminated lands. However, few studies have evaluated the long-term release of As and pH changes in stabilized soils. We compared different stabilization techniques in the field by mixing contaminated soil with 5% of either acid mine drainage sludge (AMDS), coal mine drainage sludge (CMDS), steel slag, or cement. We evaluated the results using an up-flow percolation column test to observe any pH changes and As releases from the stabilized soils up to a liquid–solid (L/S) ratio of 50 (approximately representing a 50 year period). At the initial stage of percolation (at an L/S ratio of 0.2 or 0.2 of a year of exposure), some alkaline components and any incompletely bound As in the soils washed out with the eluent. The pH of the cement-stabilized soil was approximately 12 throughout the experiment (up to 50 L/S). Adding stabilizers to the soil reduced As leaching by 54–81% (overall efficiency) compared to the control (contaminated soil only). The order of stabilization efficiency was: steel slag (55.0%) < AMDS (74.3%) < cement (78.1%) < CMDS (81.5%). This study suggests that the groundwater of the stabilized soil should be carefully monitored for the initial five years because the soluble ionic species can leach over this period. Purpose: In this study, we aimed to compare the marginal fit of fixed dental restorations fabricated with the provisional prosthesis scanning technique versus a conventional impression technique and to determine the effect of both variables on the accuracy outcome. Materials and Methods: Twelve identical polyurethane edentulous maxillary models were equally divided into two groups: control (conventional impression group) and test (provisional prosthesis scanning group). After obtaining the impression using the above-mentioned methods and further preparing the final prosthesis, the passivity of the metal framework prosthesis was checked using a single screw test, i.e., only one screw was fixed on the terminal right abutment, and all others were empty. The marginal fit of the final prosthetic frameworks screwed onto the implants on the terminal left abutment was measured at the terminal right sight by periapical radiographs obtained immediately after metal framework placements in both groups. The medians derived from the two groups were compared using the Mann–Whitney test. In all tests, a p-value < 0.05 indicated statistical significance. Results: In the provisional prosthesis scanning group, the median marginal fit discrepancy was 170 µm (range 120–190). In the conventional impression group, the median marginal fit discrepancy was 1080 µm (range 1040–1100). There was a significant difference in the implant-framework marginal gap fit discrepancy between these two groups. Conclusion: Prostheses fabricated with the provisional prosthesis scanning technique are significantly more accurate than those fabricated with conventional impression techniques. This study was designed to establish safe guidelines for pediatric dental practice regarding temporomandibular joint (TMJ) range of motion (ROM) and mouth area (MA). A total of 438 children aged 3–15 years old of homogenous ethnicity participated in the study; the distribution of participants was approximately equal (sex; n = 15; age, n = 30). Maximum mouth opening (MMO), body height, weight, and age of each participant were recorded, and the TMJ ROM including anterior and lateral movements, MA, and mouth width were documented. Males showed higher mouth width, MMO, and MA values than females. MMO and MA increased with age, height, and weight in a statistically significant manner. MMO of 40 mm is reached by the age of 5.2 years, at a height of 105.9 cm and a weight of 18.6 kg. MMO showed a moderate correlation with age, height, weight, and mouth width, and MA moderately correlated with mouth width. Anterior and lateral movements did not show any close relation to these aforementioned factors. The findings of this study suggest that forcible mouth opening over 40 mm should be more cautiously considered, especially in children shorter than 105 cm, lighter than 18 kg and in children under 5 years old. For site-specific soil ecological risk assessments (SERAs), an integrated chemical, ecotoxicological, and ecological analysis needs to be performed. The SERA guidelines of international institutions and countries recommend that a SERA be initiated at the screening level to save time and social economic cost; however, they provide no unified test species for this screening level. This study performed SERAs for field soils and confirmed the importance of selecting bioassay test species that reflect the ecotoxicity of field soils at the screening level. To confirm test species that reflect the ecological risk of field soils, correlation analysis was performed on the results of each bioassay with the integrated ecotoxicological risk index (EtoxRI). Our results showed that soil algae, nematodes, and plants were the most representative species in soil assays, with high correlation coefficients with EtoxRI. The results imply the importance of selecting test species that represent ecological risk for the screening level of SERAs. Based on these findings, when using SERAs, species sensitivity, ecological relevance, and economic aspects should be considered when selecting the bioassay test species. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The use of granule activated carbon (GAC) and rubber particles as the bio-fouling reducer in a membrane bioreactor (MBR) was evaluated in this study. The addition of GAC tends to temporarily reduce Transmembrane Pressure (TMP). Then, after the initial reduction, TMP gradually increased back up to 0.7 bar, indicating significant fouling on the membrane. Low TMP values were observed after adding 0.5% (V/V) rubber particles to the same MBR. The organic compound and nitrogen removal efficiencies of the MBR under intermittent aeration were over 94% and 93.3%, respectively. The results showed that Dysgonomonas, Acidobacteria, and Pantoea sp. contributed to the nitrification process while Lactobacillus, Erythrobacter, Phytobacter, and Mycobacterium contributed to the denitrification process. Dimorphic Candida exist as commensal yeast carriages or infiltrate hyphae in the oral cavity. Here, we investigated the clinical relevance of Candida hyphae in non-pseudomembranous oral candidiasis (OC) by smears of tongue biofilms. We conducted a retrospective study of 2829 patients who had had tongue smears regardless of OC suspicion. Clinical characteristics were evaluated using a novel method of assessing hyphae. Clinical factors (moderate/severe stimulated pain, pain aggravated by stimulation, tongue dorsum appearance and initial topical antifungal use) were highly significant in the high-grade hyphae group but were statistically similar in the low-grade hyphae and non-observed hyphae group, suggesting low-grade hyphae infection as a subclinical OC state. In addition to erythematous candidiasis (EC), a new subtype named “morphologically normal symptomatic candidiasis” (MNSC) with specific pain patterns and normal tongue morphology was identified. MNSC had a significantly higher proportion of moderate and severe stimulated pain cases than EC. Low unstimulated salivary flow rate (<0.1 mL/min) was found to be a common risk factor in MNSC and EC. In non-pseudomembranous OC, pain patterns were dependent on Candida hyphae degree regardless of tongue dorsum morphology. Surface foam spraying technologies, employing natural infiltration processes, have recently been suggested to not disturb or mix contaminated soils. However, effective delivery of reactive remedial agents to the bottom area of a contaminated region using only natural infiltration processes can be a challenge. This study aimed to improve the delivery of remedial agents such as oxidants, microorganisms, and nutrients to all depths of 30 cm thick unsaturated diesel-contaminated soil using small vertical soil holes. Three vertical holes, occupying 0.8% of the total soil volume and 3% of the soil surface area, were made inside the 17.3 kg soil column. Persulfate oxidation foam and subsequent bioaugmentation foam spraying were applied for remediation of contaminated soil. Foam spraying with vertical soil holes improved the uniformity of distribution of remedial agents throughout the soil, as evidenced by the uniform pH, higher volumetric soil water content, and a microbial population of >107 CFU/g. Therefore, the total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) removal efficiency (88–90%) from bottom soils was enhanced compared to soil columns without holes (72–73%) and the control test (5–9%). Recent studies have focused on achieving sound osseointegration applying methods of surface reprocessing of dental implants using ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. However, there have been few reports on the effect of UV irradiation on osseointegration in both the short and long term, and experimental studies using the canine model do not exist. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the short- and long-term degree of osseointegration of dental implants according to UV irradiation using a histometric analysis in canine models. Four beagles were used for this study and 24 dental implants were placed. Six implants were inserted with flapless protocols in each mandible. Half of the implants were UV-irradiated prior to implantation. UV-treated and untreated implants were placed one after the other; implant stability was recorded using the implant stability test (IST) immediately after implantation and every seven days thereafter. Two of the beagles were sacrificed after four weeks and the other two after 12 weeks. The implants were removed in block sections and were evaluated histomorphologically and statistically. As a result, we found no statistically significant differences in the mean IST values and in bone-to-implant contact (BIC) in all groups at 4 and 12 weeks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, graphene and its derivatives have attracted much interest in various fields, including biomedical applications. In particular, increasing attention has been paid to the effects of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) on cellular behaviors. On the other hand, dicalcium phosphate (DCP) has been widely used in dental and pharmaceutical fields. In this study, DCP composites coated with rGO (DCP-rGO composites) were prepared at various concentration ratios (DCP to rGO concentration ratios of 5:2.5, 5:5, and 5:10 μg/mL, respectively), and their physicochemical properties were characterized. In addition, the effects of DCP-rGO hybrid composites on MC3T3-E1 preosteoblasts were investigated. It was found that the DCP-rGO composites had an irregular granule-like structure with a diameter in the range order of the micrometer, and were found to be partially covered and interconnected with a network of rGO. The zeta potential analysis showed that although both DCP microparticles and rGO sheets had negative surface charge, the DCP-rGO composites could be successfully formed by the unique structural properties of rGO. In addition, it was demonstrated that the DCP-rGO composites significantly increased alkaline phosphatase activity and extracellular calcium deposition, indicating that the DCP-rGO hybrid composites can accelerate the osteogenic differentiation by the synergistic effects of rGO and DCP.
