Simple Summary: Live fish transport often induces stress, while gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is considered to exhibit anti-stress effects. This study aims to explore the effects of GABA on alleviating the transport stress of tawny puffer (Takifugu flavidus) by detecting water quality parameters, plasma biochemical indices, energy metabolism indicators, and antioxidant indexes. The results indicated that 50 and 150 mg/L GABA treatments exert anti-stress effects significantly on the tawny puffer, which provides a scientific basis for the development of GABA as an effective additive for aquatic animals' live transport. This study aims to investigate the effects of GABA on the transport water quality, plasma biochemical indices, energy metabolism, and antioxidant capacity of tawny puffer (Takifugu flavidus) under transport stress. Tawny puffer were pretreated by immersing in aquariums containing GABA (final concentrations at 0, 5, 50, and 150 mg/L) seawater for 3 days; then, simulated transport was conducted using oxygen-filled polyethylene bags containing the same concentration of GABA seawater as the pretreatment period. Water samples, plasma, and liver were collected after 0, 6, and 12 h of transport. The results revealed that with the prolongation of transportation time, the control group's water quality deteriorated, stress-related plasma biochemical indices increased, glycolytic substrate contents decreased, glycolytic enzyme activities and product contents increased, and aerobic metabolic enzyme activities exhibited initial increases followed by declines, ATPase activities decreased, antioxidant enzyme activities decreased, and the lipid peroxidation marker contents increased. It is noteworthy that GABA treatment could avoid water quality deterioration during transportation, inhibit an elevation in stress-related biochemical indicators, regulate energy metabolism, and reduce oxidative damage in tawny puffer, especially at 50 and 150 mg/L concentrations. Accurate estimation of crop evapotranspiration (ETc) is crucial for effective irrigation and water management. To achieve this, support vector regression (SVR) was applied to estimate the daily ETc of spring maize. Random forest (RF) as a data pre-processing technique was utilized to determine the optimal input variables for the SVR model. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) was employed to optimize the SVR model. This study used data obtained from field experiments conducted between 2017 and 2019, including crop coefficient and daily meteorological data. The performance of the innovative hybrid RF–SVR–PSO model was evaluated against a standalone SVR model, a back-propagation neural network (BPNN) model and a RF model, using different input meteorological variables. The ETc values were calculated using the Penman–Monteith equation, which is recommended by the FAO, and used as a reference for the models' estimated values. The results showed that the hybrid RF–SVR–PSO model performed better than all three standalone models for ETc estimation of spring maize. The Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient (NSE), root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE) and coefficient of determination (R2) ranges were 0.956–0.958, 0.275–0.282 mm d−1, 0.221–0.231 mm d−1 and 0.957–0.961, respectively. It is proved that the hybrid RF–SVR–PSO model is appropriate for estimation of daily spring maize ETc in semi-arid regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A two-dimensional graphene-like carbon nitride (g-CN) monolayer decorated with the superatomic cluster NLi4 was studied for reversible hydrogen storage by first-principles calculations. Molecular dynamics simulations show that the g-CN monolayer has good thermal stability at room temperature. The NLi4 is firmly anchored on the g-CN monolayer with a binding energy of −6.35 eV. Electronic charges are transferred from the Li atoms of NLi4 to the g-CN monolayer, mainly due to the hybridization of Li(2s), C(2p), and N(2p) orbitals. Consequently, a spatial local electrostatic field is formed around NLi4, leading to polarization of the adsorbed hydrogen molecules and further enhancing the electrostatic interactions between the Li atoms and hydrogen. Each NLi4 can adsorb nine hydrogen molecules with average adsorption energies between −0.152 eV/H2 and −0.237 eV/H2. This range is within the reversible hydrogen storage energy window. Moreover, the highest achieved gravimetric capacity is up to 9.2 wt%, which is superior to the 5.5 wt% target set by the U.S. Department of Energy. The induction of supramolecular chirality from achiral polymers has been widely investigated in composite systems consisting of a chiral guest, achiral host, and solvents. To further study and understand the process of chirality transfer from a chiral solvent or chiral molecules to an achiral polymer backbone or side-chain units, an alternative is to reduce the components in the supramolecular assembled systems. Herein, achiral side-chain azobenzene (Azo)-containing polymers, poly(6-[4-(4-methoxyphenylazo) phenoxy] hexyl methacrylate) (PAzoMA), with different Mns, were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Preferred chirality from supramolecular assembled trans-Azo units of PAzoMAs is successfully induced solely by the neat limonene. These aggregates of the polymers in limonene solution were characterized by circular dichroism (CD), UV-vis spectra, and dynamic light scattering (DLS) under different temperatures. The temperature plays an important role in the course of chiral induction. Meanwhile, supramolecular chirality can be constructed in the solid films of the achiral side-chain Azo-containing polymers that were triggered by limonene vapors. Also, it can be erased after heated above the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the polymer, and recovered after cooling down in the limonene vapors. A chiroptical switch can be built by alternately changing the temperature. The solid films show good chiral memory behaviors. The current results will facilitate studying the mechanism of chirality transfer induced by chiral solvent and improve potential application possibilities in chiral film materials. Macrocyclic lactones such as abamectin and ivermectin constitute an important class of broad-spectrum insecticides. Widespread resistance to synthetic insecticides, including abamectin and ivermectin, poses a serious threat to the management of diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae), a major pest of cruciferous plants worldwide. P-glycoprotein (Pgp), a member of the ABC transporter superfamily, plays a crucial role in the removal of amphiphilic xenobiotics, suggesting a mechanism for drug resistance in target organisms. In this study, PxPgp1, a putative Pgp gene from P. xylostella, was cloned and characterized. The open reading frame (ORF) of PxPgp1 consists of 3774 nucleotides, which encodes a 1257-amino acid peptide. The deduced PxPgp1 protein possesses structural characteristics of a typical Pgp, and clusters within the insect ABCB1. PxPgp1 was expressed throughout all developmental stages, and showed the highest expression level in adult males. PxPgp1 was highly expressed in midgut, malpighian tubules and testes. Elevated expression of PxPgp1 was observed in P. xylostella strains after they were exposed to the abamectin treatment. In addition, the constitutive expressions of PxPgp1 were significantly higher in laboratory-selected and field-collected resistant strains in comparison to their susceptible counterpart.
