Many bacteria swim in liquids and move over solid surfaces by rotating flagella. The bacterial flagellum is a supramolecular protein complex that is composed of about 30 different flagellar proteins ranging from a few to tens of thousands. Despite structural and functional diversities of the flagella among motile bacteria, the flagellum commonly consists of a membrane-embedded rotary motor fueled by an ion motive force across the cytoplasmic membrane, a universal joint, and a helical propeller that extends several micrometers beyond the cell surface. The flagellar motor consists of a rotor and several stator units, each of which acts as a transmembrane ion channel complex that converts the ion flux through the channel into the mechanical work required for force generation. The rotor ring complex is equipped with a reversible gear that is regulated by chemotactic signal transduction pathways. As a result, bacteria can move to more desirable locations in response to environmental changes. Recent high-resolution structural analyses of flagella using cryo-electron microscopy have provided deep insights into the assembly, rotation, and directional switching mechanisms of the flagellar motor complex. In this review article, we describe the current understanding of the structure and dynamics of the bacterial flagellum.

In this study, we developed a lightweight shoe sensor system equipped with four high-capacity, compact triaxial force sensors and an inertial measurement unit. Remarkably, this system enabled measurements of localized three-directional ground reaction forces (GRFs) at each sensor position (heel, first and fifth metatarsal heads, and toe) and estimations of stride length and toe clearance during walking. Compared to conventional optical motion analysis systems, the developed sensor system provided relatively accurate results for stride length and minimum toe clearance. To test the performance of the system, 15 older and 8 young adults were instructed to walk along a straight line while wearing the system. The results reveal that compared to the young adults, older adults exhibited lower localized GRF contributions from the heel and greater localized GRF contribution from the toe and fifth metatarsal locations. Furthermore, the older adults exhibited greater variability in their stride length and smaller toe clearance with greater variability compared to the young adults. These results underscore the effectiveness of the proposed gait analysis system in distinguishing the gait characteristics of young and older adults, potentially replacing traditional motion capture systems and force plates in gait analysis.

Three-dimensional (3D) Scene Understanding achieves environmental perception by extracting and analyzing point cloud data with wide applications including virtual reality, robotics, etc. Previous methods align the 2D image feature from a pre-trained CLIP model and the 3D point cloud feature for the open vocabulary scene understanding ability. We believe that existing methods have the following two deficiencies: (1) the 3D feature extraction process ignores the challenges of real scenarios, i.e., point cloud data are very sparse and even incomplete; (2) the training stage lacks direct text supervision, leading to inconsistency with the inference stage. To address the first issue, we employ a Masked Consistency training policy. Specifically, during the alignment of 3D and 2D features, we mask some 3D features to force the model to understand the entire scene using only partial 3D features. For the second issue, we generate pseudo-text labels and align them with the 3D features during the training process. In particular, we first generate a description for each 2D image belonging to the same 3D scene and then use a summarization model to fuse these descriptions into a single description of the scene. Subsequently, we align 2D-3D features and 3D-text features simultaneously during training. Massive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, outperforming state-of-the-art approaches.

Two-layer microfluidic devices with porous membranes have been widely used in bioapplications such as microphysiological systems (MPS). Porous electrodes, instead of membranes, have recently been incorporated into devices for electrochemical cell analysis. Generally, microfluidic channels are prepared using soft lithography and assembled into two-layer microfluidic devices. In addition to soft lithography, three-dimensional (3D) printing has been widely used for the direct fabrication of microfluidic devices because of its high flexibility. However, this technique has not yet been applied to the fabrication of two-layer microfluidic devices with porous electrodes. This paper proposes a novel fabrication process for this type of device. In brief, Pluronic F-127 ink was three-dimensionally printed in the form of sacrificial layers. A porous Au electrode, fabricated by sputtering Au on track-etched polyethylene terephthalate membranes, was placed between the top and bottom sacrificial layers. After covering with polydimethylsiloxane, the sacrificial layers were removed by flushing with a cold solution. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the sacrificial approach-based fabrication of two-layer microfluidic devices with a porous electrode. Furthermore, the device was used for electrochemical assays of serotonin and could successfully measure concentrations up to 5 µM. In the future, this device can be used for MPS applications.

In this study, a pH-responsive polycaprolactone (PCL)-copper peroxide (CuO 2 ) composite antibacterial coating was developed by suspension flame spraying. The successful synthesis of CuO 2 nanoparticles and fabrication of the PCL-CuO 2 composite coatings were confirmed by microstructural and chemical analysis. The composite coatings were structurally homogeneous, with the chemical properties of PCL well maintained. The acidic environment was found to effectively accelerate the dissociation of CuO 2 , allowing the simultaneous release of Cu 2+ and H 2 O 2 . Antimicrobial tests clearly revealed the enhanced antibacterial properties of the PCL-CuO 2 composite coating against both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus under acidic conditions, with a bactericidal effect of over 99.99%. This study presents a promising approach for constructing pH-responsive antimicrobial coatings for biomedical applications.

This paper proposes a novel tour guide robot, "ASAHI ReBorn", which can lead a guest by hand one-on-one while maintaining a proper distance from the guest. The robot uses a stretchable arm interface to hold the guest's hand and adjusts its speed according to the guest's pace. The robot also follows a given guide path accurately using the Robot Side method, a robot navigation method that follows a pre-defined path quickly and accurately. In addition, a control method is introduced that limits the angular velocity of the robot to avoid the robot's quick turn while guiding the guest. We evaluated the performance and usability of the proposed robot through experiments and user studies. The tour-guiding experiment revealed that the proposed method that keeps distance between the robot and the guest using the stretchable arm enables the guests to look around the exhibits compared with the condition where the robot moved at a constant velocity.

Toxoplasma gondii is an intracellular parasitic protozoan with a high infection rate in mammals, including humans, and birds. There is no effective vaccine, and treatment relies on antiparasitic drugs. However, existing antiprotozoal drugs have strong side effects and other problems; therefore, new treatment approaches are needed. Metal nanoparticles have attracted increased interest in the biomedical community in recent years because of their extremely high surface area to volume ratio and their unique reactivity that could be exploited for medicinal purposes. Previously, we confirmed the anti-Toxoplasma effects of gold, silver, and platinum nanoparticles, in a growth inhibition test. Here, we asked whether the anti-Toxoplasma effect could be confirmed with less expensive metal nanoparticles, specifically iron oxide nanoparticles (goethite and hematite). To improve the selective action of the nanoparticles, we modified the surface with l-tryptophan as our previous findings showed that the bio-modification of nanoparticles enhances their selectivity against T. gondii . Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis confirmed the successful coating of the iron oxide nanoparticles with l-tryptophan. Subsequently, cytotoxicity and growth inhibition assays were performed. L-tryptophan-modified nanoparticles showed superior anti-Toxoplasma action compared to their naked nanoparticle counterparts. L-tryptophan enhanced the selective toxicity of the iron oxide nanoparticles toward T. gondii . The bio-modified nanoparticles did not exhibit detectable host cell toxicity in the effective anti-Toxoplasma doses. To elucidate whether reactive oxygen species contribute to the anti-Toxoplasma action of the bio-modified nanoparticles, we added Trolox antioxidant to the assay medium and found that Trolox appreciably reduced the nanoparticle-induced growth inhibition.

A new nondestructive inspection method, the magnetic hammer test (MHT), which uses a compact and highly sensitive tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) sensor, is proposed. This method complements the magnetic flux leakage method and eliminates the issues of the hammer test. It can therefore detect weak magnetic fields generated by the natural vibration of a pipe with a high signal-to-noise ratio. In this study, several steel pipes with different wall thicknesses were measured using a TMR sensor to demonstrate the superiority of MHT. The results of the measurement show that wall thickness can be evaluated with the accuracy of several tens of microns from the change in the natural vibration frequency of the specimen pipe. The pipes were also inspected underwater using a waterproofed TMR sensor, which demonstrated an accuracy of less than 100 μm. The validity of these results was by simulating the shielding of magnetic fields and vibration of the pipes with the finite element method (FEM) analysis. The proposed noncontact, fast, and accurate method for thickness testing of long-distance pipes will contribute to unmanned, manpower-saving nondestructive testing (NDT) in the future.

We developed a shoe sole sensor system with four high-capacity, compact triaxial force sensors using a nitrogen added chromium strain-sensitive thin film mounted on the sole of a shoe. Walking experiments were performed, including straight walking and turning (side-step and cross-step turning), in six healthy young male participants and two healthy young female participants wearing the sole sensor system. A regression model to predict three-directional ground reaction forces (GRFs) from force sensor outputs was created using multiple linear regression and Gaussian process regression (GPR). The predicted GRF values were compared with the GRF values measured with a force plate. In the model trained on data from the straight walking and turning trials, the percent root-mean-square error (%RMSE) for predicting the GRFs in the anteroposterior and vertical directions was less than 15%, except for the GRF in the mediolateral direction. The model trained separately for straight walking, side-step turning, and cross-step turning showed a %RMSE of less than 15% in all directions in the GPR model, which is considered accurate for practical use.

JPEG is the international standard for still image encoding and is the most widely used compression algorithm because of its simple encoding process and low computational complexity. Recently, many methods have been developed to improve the quality of JPEG images by using deep learning. However, these methods require the use of high-performance devices since they need to perform neural network computation for decoding images. In this paper, we propose a method to generate high-quality images using deep learning without changing the decoding algorithm. The key idea is to reduce and smooth colors and gradient regions in the original images before JPEG compression. The reduction and smoothing can suppress red block noise and pseudo-contour in the compressed images. Furthermore, high-performance devices are unnecessary for decoding. The proposed method consists of two components: a color transformation network using deep learning and a pseudo-contour suppression model using signal processing. The experimental results showed that the proposed method outperforms standard JPEG in quality measurements correlated with human perception.

In this paper, the light intensity and charge holding time dependence of pinned photodiode (PD) full well capacity (FWC) are studied for our pixel structure with a buried overflow path under the transfer gate. The formulae for PDFWC derived from a simple analytical model show that the relation between light intensity and PDFWC is logarithmic because PDFWC is determined by the balance between the photo-generated current and overflow current under the bright condition. Furthermore, with using pulsed light before a charge holding operation in PD, the accumulated charges in PD decrease with the holding time due to the overflow current, and finally, it reaches equilibrium PDFWC. The analytical model has been successfully validated by the technology computer-aided design (TCAD) device simulation and actual device measurement.

We investigated the improvement of mechanical properties of biograde Co-28Cr-6Mo-0.11N alloy prepared by electron beam melting through grain refinement via multiple reverse transformations. While the effects of single and double reverse transformation treatments on the microstructure have been investigated in previous studies, we investigated the effects of multiple reverse transformation heat treatments. The particle size was refined to 1/4, and the yield strength, tensile silence strength, and elongation were enhanced to 655 MPa, 1234 MPa, and 45%, respectively, satisfying ASTM F75 standards. Moreover, a mixed phase of ε and γ was observed to provide higher yield strength than a single γ structure. The dominant behavior in the γ → ε phase transformation at 1073 K was obvious. Grain growth was suppressed by the grain-boundary pinning effect of the Cr 2 N phase during reverse transformation to the γ phase. Because no fracture was caused by precipitates such as σ, η, and Cr 2 N phases, the influence of the precipitates on the tensile properties was small.

Temporal interference (TI) stimulation, which utilizes multiple external electric fields with amplitude modulation for neural modulation, has emerged as a potential noninvasive brain stimulation methodology. However, the clinical application of TI stimulation is inhibited by its uncertain fundamental mechanisms, and research has previously been restricted to numerical simulations and immunohistology without considering the acute in vivo response of the neural circuit. To address the characterization and understanding of the mechanisms underlying the approach, we investigated instantaneous brainwide activation patterns in response to invasive interferential current (IFC) stimulation compared with low-frequency alternative current stimulation (ACS). Results demonstrated that IFC stimulation is capable of inducing regional neural responses and modulating brain networks; however, the activation threshold for significantly recruiting a neural response using IFC was higher (at least twofold) than stimulation via alternating current, and the spatial distribution of the activation signal was restricted. A distinct blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) response pattern was observed, which could be accounted for by the activation of distinct types of cells, such as inhibitory cells, by IFC. These results suggest that IFC stimulation might not be as efficient as conventional brain modulation methods, especially when considering TI stimulation as a potential alternative for stimulating subcortical brain areas. Therefore, we argue that a future transcranial application of TI on human subjects should take these implications into account and consider other stimulation effects using this technique.

We demonstrate an S-shaped double-spiral microresonator (DSR) for detecting small volumes of analytes, such as liquids or gases, penetrating a microfluidic channel. Optical-ring resonators have been applied as label-free and high-sensitivity biosensors by using an evanescent field for sensing the refractive index of analytes. Enlarging the ring resonator size is a solution for amplifying the interactions between the evanescent field and biomolecules to obtain a higher refractive index sensitivity of the attached analytes. However, it requires a large platform of a hundred square millimeters, and 99% of the cavity area would not involve evanescent field sensing. In this report, we demonstrate the novel design of a Si-based S-shaped double-spiral resonator on a silicon-on-insulator substrate for which the cavity size was 41.6 µm × 88.4 µm. The proposed resonator footprint was reduced by 680 times compared to a microring resonator with the same cavity area. The fabricated resonator exposed more sensitive optical characteristics for refractive index biosensing thanks to the enhanced contact interface by a long cavity length of DSR structures. High quality factors of 1.8 × 10 4 were demonstrated for 1.2 mm length DSR structures, which were more than two times higher than the quality factors of microring resonators. A bulk sensitivity of 1410 nm/RIU was calculated for detecting 1 µL IPA solutions inside a 200 µm wide microchannel by using the DSR cavity, which had more than a 10-fold higher sensitivity than the sensitivity of the microring resonators. A DSR device was also used for the detection of 100 ppm acetone gas inside a closed bottle.

The integration of liquid exchange and microfluidic chips plays a critical role in the biomedical and biophysical fields as it enables the control of the extracellular environment and allows for the simultaneous stimulation and detection of single cells. In this study, we present a novel approach for measuring the transient response of single cells using a system integrated with a microfluidic chip and a probe with a dual pump. The system was composed of a probe with a dual pump system, a microfluidic chip, optical tweezers, an external manipulator, an external piezo actuator, etc. Particularly, we incorporated the probe with the dual pump to allow for high-speed liquid change, and the localized flow control enabled a low disturbance contact force detection of single cells on the chip. Using this system, we measured the transient response of the cell swelling against the osmotic shock with a very fine time resolution. To demonstrate the concept, we first designed the double-barreled pipette, which was assembled with two piezo pumps to achieve a probe with the dual pump system, allowing for simultaneous liquid injection and suction. The microfluidic chip with on-chip probes was fabricated, and the integrated force sensor was calibrated. Second, we characterized the performance of the probe with the dual pump system, and the effect of the analysis position and area of the liquid exchange time was investigated. In addition, we optimized the applied injection voltage to achieve a complete concentration change, and the average liquid exchange time was achieved at approximately 3.33 ms. Finally, we demonstrated that the force sensor was only subjected to minor disturbances during the liquid exchange. This system was utilized to measure the deformation and the reactive force of Synechocystis sp. strain PCC 6803 in osmotic shock, with an average response time of approximately 16.33 ms. This system reveals the transient response of compressed single cells under millisecond osmotic shock which has the potential to characterize the accurate physiological function of ion channels.

Transhumeral amputees experience considerable difficulties with controlling a multifunctional prosthesis (powered hand, wrist, and elbow) due to the lack of available muscles to provide electromyographic (EMG) signals. The residual limb motion strategy has become a popular alternative for transhumeral prosthesis control. It provides an intuitive way to estimate the motion of the prosthesis based on the residual shoulder motion, especially for target reaching tasks. Conventionally, a predictive model, typically an artificial neural network (ANN), is directly trained and relied upon to map the shoulder-elbow kinematics using the data from able-bodied subjects without extracting any prior synergistic information. However, it is essential to explicitly identify effective synergies and make them transferable across amputee users for higher accuracy and robustness. To overcome this limitation of the conventional ANN learning approach, this study explicitly combines the kinematic synergies with a recurrent neural network (RNN) to propose a synergy-space neural network for estimating forearm motions (i.e., elbow joint flexion-extension and pronation-supination angles) based on residual shoulder motions. We tested 36 training strategies for each of the 14 subjects, comparing the proposed synergy-space and conventional neural network learning approaches, and we statistically evaluated the results using Pearson's correlation method and the analysis of variance (ANOVA) test. The offline cross-subject analysis indicates that the synergy-space neural network exhibits superior robustness to inter-individual variability, demonstrating the potential of this approach as a transferable and generalized control strategy for transhumeral prosthesis control.

One of the fundamental limitations in human biomechanics is that we cannot directly obtain joint moments during natural movements without affecting the motion. However, estimating these values is feasible with inverse dynamics computation by employing external force plates, which can cover only a small area of the plate. This work investigated the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network for the kinetics and kinematics prediction of human lower limbs when performing different activities without using force plates after the learning. We measured surface electromyography (sEMG) signals from 14 lower extremities muscles to generate a 112-dimensional input vector from three sets of features: root mean square, mean absolute value, and sixth-order autoregressive model coefficient parameters for each muscle in the LSTM network. With the recorded experimental data from the motion capture system and the force plates, human motions were reconstructed in a biomechanical simulation created using OpenSim v4.1, from which the joint kinematics and kinetics from left and right knees and ankles were retrieved to serve as output for training the LSTM. The estimation results using the LSTM model deviated from labels with average R scores (knee angle: 97.25%, knee moment: 94.9%, ankle angle: 91.44%, and ankle moment: 85.44%). These results demonstrate the feasibility of the joint angle and moment estimation based solely on sEMG signals for multiple daily activities without requiring force plates and a motion capture system once the LSTM model is trained.2 scores (knee angle: 97.25%, knee moment: 94.9%, ankle angle: 91.44%, and ankle moment: 85.44%). Replacing fossil-based polymers with renewable bio-based polymers is one of the most promising ways to solve the environmental issues and climate change we human beings are facing. The production of new lignocellulose-based polymers involves five steps, including (1) fractionation of lignocellulose into cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin; (2) depolymerization of the fractionated cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin into carbohydrates and aromatic compounds; (3) catalytic or thermal conversion of the depolymerized carbohydrates and aromatic compounds to platform chemicals; (4) further conversion of the platform chemicals to the desired bio-based monomers; (5) polymerization of the above monomers to bio-based polymers by suitable polymerization methods. This review article will focus on the progress of bio-based monomers derived from lignocellulose, in particular the preparation of bio-based monomers from 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) and vanillin, and their polymerization methods. The latest research progress and application scenarios of related bio-based polymeric materials will be also discussed, as well as future trends in bio-based polymers.

The Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) reaction-based assay, the most commonly used endotoxin detection method, requires a skilled technician. In this study, to develop an easy-to-use and highly sensitive endotoxin sensor, we created an electrochemical endotoxin sensor by using an interdigitated array electrode (IDAE) device with advantages of amplifiable signals via redox cycling and portability. We added Boc-Leu-Gly-Arg- p -aminophenol (LGR-pAP) as an electrochemical substrate for an LAL reaction and detected p -aminophenol (pAP) released from LGR-pAP as a product of an endotoxin-induced LAL reaction via an IDAE device. The IDAE device showed a great redox cycling efficiency of 79.8%, and a 4.79-fold signal amplification rate. Then, we confirmed that pAP was detectable in the presence of LGR-pAP through chronoamperometry with the potential of the anode stepped from -0.3 to 0.5 V vs. Ag/AgCl while the cathode was biased at -0.3 V vs. Ag/AgCl. Then, we performed an endotoxin assay by using the IDAE device. Our endotoxin sensor detected as low as 0.7 and 1.0 endotoxin unit/L after the LAL reaction for 1 h and 45 min, respectively, and these data were within the cut-off value for ultrapure dialysis fluid. Therefore, our highly sensitive endotoxin sensor is useful for ensuring medical safety.

A magnetocardiograph that enables the clear observation of heart magnetic field mappings without magnetically shielded rooms at room temperatures has been successfully manufactured. Compared to widespread electrocardiographs, magnetocardiographs commonly have a higher spatial resolution, which is expected to lead to early diagnoses of ischemic heart disease and high diagnostic accuracy of ventricular arrhythmia, which involves the risk of sudden death. However, as the conventional superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetocardiographs require large magnetically shielded rooms and huge running costs to cool the SQUID sensors, magnetocardiography is still unfamiliar technology. Here, in order to achieve the heart field detectivity of 1.0 pT without magnetically shielded rooms and enough magnetocardiography accuracy, we aimed to improve the detectivity of tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) sensors and to decrease the environmental and sensor noises with a mathematical algorithm. The magnetic detectivity of the TMR sensors was confirmed to be 14.1 pT rms on average in the frequency band between 0.2 and 100 Hz in uncooled states, thanks to the original multilayer structure and the innovative pattern of free layers. By constructing a sensor array using 288 TMR sensors and applying the mathematical magnetic shield technology of signal space separation (SSS), we confirmed that SSS reduces the environmental magnetic noise by -73 dB, which overtakes the general triple magnetically shielded rooms. Moreover, applying digital processing that combined the signal average of heart magnetic fields for one minute and the projection operation, we succeeded in reducing the sensor noise by about -23 dB. The heart magnetic field resolution measured on a subject in a laboratory in an office building was 0.99 pT rms and obtained magnetocardiograms and current arrow maps as clear as the SQUID magnetocardiograph does in the QRS and ST segments. Upon utilizing its superior spatial resolution, this magnetocardiograph has the potential to be an important tool for the early diagnosis of ischemic heart disease and the risk management of sudden death triggered by ventricular arrhythmia.

Antioxidants were applied to a dual-luminophore pressure-sensitive paint (PSP), and the effects on photodegradation caused by exposure to excitation light were studied. Three types of antioxidants that are commonly used for the photostability enhancement of polymers were added to a dual-luminophore PSP, and degradation rates and pressure/temperature sensitivities were investigated by coupon-based tests. One-hour-long aging tests were performed in a pressure chamber with a continuous excitation light source under dry air and argon atmospheres at 100 kPa and 20 °C. As a result of the aging tests, a singlet oxygen quencher type antioxidant was found to reduce the degradation rate by 91% when compared with the dual-luminophore PSP without antioxidants. This implies that singlet oxygen has a dominant role in the photodegradation mechanism of the dual-luminophore PSP.

Recently, global climate change has led to a high incidence of extreme weather and natural disasters. How to reduce its impact has become an important topic. However, the studies that both consider the disaster's real-time geographic information and environmental factors in severe rainstorms are still not enough. Volunteered geographic information (VGI) data that was generated during disasters offered possibilities for improving the emergency management abilities of decision-makers and the disaster self-rescue abilities of citizens. Through the case study of the extreme rainstorm disaster in Zhengzhou, China, in July 2021, this paper used machine learning to study VGI issued by residents. The vulnerable people and their demands were identified based on the SOS messages. The importance of various indicators was analyzed by combining open data from socio-economic and built-up environment elements. Potential safe areas with shelter resources in five administrative districts in the disaster-prone central area of Zhengzhou were identified based on these data. This study found that VGI can be a reliable data source for future disaster research. The characteristics of rainstorm hazards were concluded from the perspective of affected people and environmental indicators. The policy recommendations for disaster prevention in the context of public participation were also proposed.

Aluminum contaminations, particularly iron, present a serious challenge to aluminum recycling technology. This is why many studies have focused on the reduction of detrimental effects of iron-containing contaminations through addition of elements such as manganese and chromium. However, the desirable modifying effect is often difficult to achieve because it would require concentrations of added elements greater than the allowable limits for many aluminum alloys. Thus, an alternative way to obtain the modifying effect, by using a much smaller amount of the modifying elements which are added to the aluminum melt as solid particles, was proposed in this study. The main goal of the present study was to investigate the possibilities of fabricating an aluminum master alloy by adding CrSi 2 particles onto the surface of the vortex formed during mechanical agitation of molten aluminum. Two kinds of CrSi 2 powder were used: one was commercial powder, and the other was self-synthesized CrSi 2 via mechanical alloying by planetary ball milling. The results revealed that CrSi 2 particles with a larger size penetrate the melt better. Particles of three kinds were found to exist in the Al melt after the addition of CrSi 2 powder: (1) inclusions of eutectic origin formed at the last stage of crystallization, (2) mixtures of Al-Cr compounds and original CrSi 2 particles and (3) original CrSi 2 particles. Low melt temperatures and short treatment times were found to favor the fabrication of master alloys because they impeded the dissolution of CrSi 2 particles into the Al melt and, thus, allowed one to fabricate the master alloy containing the particles of the second and third types.

Rural areas are vulnerable to natural disasters and tend to suffer severe losses. An EF4 tornado occurred in Funing on 23 June 2016, killing 99 people, injuring at least 846 people, and destroying more than 2000 houses. Using a multinomial logistic regression model, this study explored the influencing factors between housing damage and variables of building conditions, tornado intensity, and village environmental factors. The results show that 2-story houses and masonry houses were more likely to be slightly damaged or be in a dangerous state. Furthermore, the building area was positively related to houses in two categories: slight damage (SD) and dangerous and requiring immediate repair (DR), indicating that the larger or taller the house, the more severe the damage. In terms of tornado intensity, houses classified as SD were more likely to be hit by EF4 tornados than by EF3 tornados, and houses were damaged more by EF1 or EF2 tornados. This finding demonstrates that the level of housing damage was not strongly correlated with the tornado intensity. Slightly damaged houses exhibited the highest correlation with environmental factors. The proportion of slightly damaged houses was positively correlated with the water area in the village, unlike the proportion of houses in the DR and unable to be repaired (UR) categories. Moreover, the larger the water area of a village, the less housing damage it suffered. These findings provide new insights into minimizing housing damage in wind disasters to improve disaster prevention planning in rural areas.

In the present work, the phase equilibria of the Ni-Ga-Cr ternary system at 850, 1000 and 1150 °C were experimentally investigated to provide the essential data for developing the high-entropy shape memory alloys (HESMAs) containing Ni, Ga and Cr. At 850 °C, in the Ni-rich portion, the B2 phase shows equilibrium with the L12 phase when the Cr content is less than 10.49 at. %, while displaying the equilibrium with L12 and BCC phases when the Cr content increases. The B2 + L12 + BCC changes into B2 + FCC + BCC three-phase equilibria from 850 to 1150 °C, as the L12 phase region becomes narrow with rising temperature. The two-phase equilibrium, B2 + BCC, was found at all the isothermal sections investigated. Other three-phase equilibria were also discovered: B2 + α-Cr3Ga + BCC and Ni2Ga3 + α-Cr3Ga + L at 850 °C, and B2 + α-Cr3Ga + L at 1000 °C. Significantly, an athermal ω intermetallic compound with the space group of P3¯m1 was observed distributing at the B2 phase in the quenched Ni45.98-Ga25.50-Cr28.52, Ni42.23-Ga15.70-Cr42.07 and Ni16.54-Ga13.63-Cr69.83 (at. %) alloys after being annealed at 1150 °C for 10 days. The high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) results reveal that the ω shows a crystallographic orientation of [11¯0]B2//[112¯0]ω; (111)B2//(0001)ω with the B2 parent phase.

The achievement of China's low-carbon development and carbon neutrality depends heavily on the decrease of manufacturing carbon emissions. From coagglomeration's dynamic evolution perspective, by using panel-threshold-STIRPAT and mediation-STIRPAT models, this study examines the relationships among industrial coagglomeration, green innovation, and manufacturing carbon emissions and explores the direct and indirect function mechanisms. Panel data of China's 30 provinces from 2010 to 2019 are employed. The results imply that, first, the impact of industrial coagglomeration on manufacturing carbon emissions is nonlinear and has significant threshold effects. Industrial coagglomeration negatively affects manufacturing carbon emissions, and as the coagglomeration level deepens, the negative effect has a diminishing trend in marginal utility. Once the coagglomeration degree exceeds a certain threshold, the negative impact becomes insignificant. At present, for 90% of China's regions, an increase in industrial coagglomeration level can help reduce manufacturing carbon emissions. Second, green innovation is a vital intermediary between industrial coagglomeration and manufacturing carbon emissions. It is a partial intermediary when industrial coagglomeration is at a relatively lower-level stage and a complete intermediary when industrial coagglomeration is at a relatively higher-level stage. These findings reveal the significance of optimizing industrial coagglomeration and the level and efficiency of green innovation to decrease carbon emissions.

This study demonstrates room-temperature bonding using a getter layer for the vacuum packaging of microsystems. A thick Ti layer covered with an Au layer is utilized as a getter layer because it can absorb gas molecules in the package. Additionally, smooth Au surfaces can form direct bonds for hermetic sealing at room temperature. Direct bonding using a getter layer can simplify the vacuum packaging process; however, typical getter layers are rough in bonding formation. This study demonstrates two fabrication techniques for smooth getter layers. In the first approach, the Au/Ti layer is bonded to an Au layer on a smooth SiO 2 template, and the Au/SiO 2 interface is mechanically exfoliated. Although the root-mean-square roughness was reduced from 2.00 to 0.98 nm, the surface was still extremely rough for direct bonding. In the second approach, an Au/Ti/Au multilayer on a smooth SiO 2 template is bonded with a packaging substrate, and the Au/SiO 2 interface is exfoliated. The transferred Au/Ti/Au getter layer has a smooth surface with the root-mean-square roughness of 0.54 nm and could form wafer-scale direct bonding at room temperature. We believe that the second approach would allow a simple packaging process using direct bonding of the getter layer.

We developed and evaluated an anodized-aluminum pressure-sensitive paint (AA-PSP) with new formulations of free-base porphyrin, H2TCPP, as an optical unsteady pressure sensor. The luminophore H2TCPP has quite a short fluorescent lifetime (2.4 ns on the condition of the AA-PSP). The fluorescence spectroscopy result shows that the excitation wavelength of H2TCPP corresponds to violet-colored (425 nm) and green-colored (longer than 520 nm) lights. The pressure sensitivity is sufficiently high for the pressure sensor (0.33-0.51%/kPa) and the temperature sensitivity is very low (0.07-1.46%/K). The photodegradation of the AA-PSPs is not severe in both excitation light sources of the green LED and the Nd:YAG laser. The resonance tube experiment result shows the cut-off frequency of the AA-PSPs is over 9.0 kHz, and the results of the shock tube experiment show the 10 µs order time constant of the normal shock wave.

This study presents an experimental demonstration of the motion characteristics of a comb-drive actuator fabricated from heterogeneous structure and applied for cryogenic environments. Here, a silicon wafer is anodically bonded onto a glass substrate, which is considered to be a conventional heterogeneous structure and is commonly adopted for fabricating comb-drive actuators owing to the low-cost fabrication. The displacement sensor, also with comb-finger configuration, is utilized to monitor the motion characteristics in real time at low temperatures. The irregular motions, including displacement fluctuation and lateral sticking, are observed at specific low temperatures. This can be attributed to the different thermal expansion coefficients of two materials in the heterogeneous structure, further leading to structural deformation at low temperatures. The support spring in a comb-drive actuator is apt to be deformed because of suspended flexible structures, which affect the stiffness of the support spring and generate irregular yield behavior. The irregular yield behavior at low temperatures can be constrained by enhancing the stiffness of the support spring. Finally, we reveal that there are limited applications of the heterogeneous-structure-based comb-drive actuator in cryogenic environments, and simultaneously point out that the material substrate of silicon on the insulator is replaceable based on the homogeneous structure with a thin SiO 2 layer.

Heterogeneous integration of micro-electro mechanical systems (MEMS) and complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) integrated circuits (ICs) by 3D stacking or wafer bonding is an emerging approach to advance the functionality of microdevices. Aluminum (Al) has been of interest as one of the wafer bonding materials due to its low cost and compatibility with CMOS processes. However, Al wafer bonding typically requires a high temperature of 450 °C or more due to the stable native oxide which presents on the Al surface. In this study, a wafer bonding technique for heterogeneous integration using electroplated Al bonding frame is demonstrated. The bonding mechanism relies on the mechanical deformation of the electroplated Al bonding frame through a localized bonding pressure by the groove structures on the counter wafer, i.e., press marking. The native oxide on the surface was removed and a fresh Al surface at the bonding interface was released through such a large mechanical deformation. The wafer bonding was demonstrated at the bonding temperatures of 250-450 °C. The influence of the bonding temperature to the quality of the bonded substrates was investigated. The bonding shear strength of 8-100 MPa was obtained, which is comparable with the other Al bonding techniques requiring high bonding temperature.

The diagnosis of the dynamics, accumulation, and engraftment of transplanted stem cells in vivo is essential for ensuring the safety and the maximum therapeutic effect of regenerative medicine. However, in vivo imaging technologies for detecting transplanted stem cells are not sufficient at present. We developed nanohybrid particles composed of dendron-baring lipids having two unsaturated bonds (DLU2) molecules, quantum dots (QDs), and magnetic nanoparticles in order to diagnose the dynamics, accumulation, and engraftment of transplanted stem cells, and then addressed the labeling and in vivo fluorescence and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of stem cells using the nanohybrid particles (DLU2-NPs). Five kinds of DLU2-NPs (DLU2-NPs-1-5) composed of different concentrations of DLU2 molecules, QDs525, QDs605, QDs705, and ATDM were prepared. Adipose tissue-derived stem cells (ASCs) were labeled with DLU2-NPs for 4 h incubation, no cytotoxicity or marked effect on the proliferation ability was observed in ASCs labeled with DLU2-NPs (640- or 320-fold diluted). ASCs labeled with DLU2-NPs (640-fold diluted) were transplanted subcutaneously onto the backs of mice, and the labeled ASCs could be imaged with good contrast using in vivo fluorescence and an MR imaging system. DLU2-NPs may be useful for in vivo multimodal imaging of transplanted stem cells.

In this paper, we propose that thermally induced Knudsen forces in a rarefied gas can be exploited to achieve a tweezer-like mechanism that can be used to trap and grasp a micro-object without physical contact. Using the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method, we showed that the proposed mechanism is achieved when a heated thin plate, mounted perpendicularly on a flat substrate, is placed close to a colder object; in this case, a beam. This mechanism is mainly due to the pressure differences induced by the thermal edge flows at the corners of the beam and the thermal edge flow at the tip of the thin plate. Specifically, the pressure on the top surface of the beam is smaller than that on its bottom surface when the thin plate is above the beam, while the pressure on the right side of the beam is smaller than that on its left side when the thin plate is located near the right side of the beam. These differences in pressure generate a force, which attracts the beam to the plate horizontally and vertically. Furthermore, this phenomenon is enhanced when the height of the beam is shorter, such that the horizontal and vertical net forces, which attract the beam to the plate, become stronger. The mechanism proposed here was also found to depend significantly on the height of the beam, the temperature difference between the thin plate and the beam, and the Knudsen number.

In micro/nano-scale systems where the characteristic length is in the order of or less than the mean free path for gas molecules, an object placed close to a heated substrate with a surface microstructure receives a propulsive force. In addition to the induced forces on the boundaries, thermally driven flows can also be induced in such conditions. As the force exerted on the object is caused by momentum brought by gas molecules impinging on and reflected at the surface of the object, reproducing molecular gas flows around the object is required to investigate the force on it. Using the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method to resolve the flow, we found that by modifying the conventional ratchet-shaped microstructure into different configurations, a stronger propulsive force can be achieved. Specifically, the tip angle of the microstructure is an important parameter in optimizing the induced force. The increase in the propulsive force induced by the different microstructures was also found to depend on the Knudsen number, i.e., the ratio of the mean free path to the characteristic length and the temperature difference between the heated microstructure and the colder object. Furthermore, we explained how this force is formed and why this force is enhanced by the decreasing tip angle, considering the momentum brought onto the bottom surface of the object by incident molecules.

This paper presents newly developed two high-precision CMOS proximity capacitance image sensors: Chip A with 12 μm pitch pixels with a large detection area of 1.68 cm 2 ; Chip B with 2.8 μm pitch 1.8 M pixels for a higher resolution. Both fabricated chips achieved a capacitance detection precision of less than 100 zF (10 -19 F) at an input voltage of 20 V and less than 10 zF (10 -20 F) at 300 V due to the noise cancelling technique. Furthermore, by using multiple input pulse amplitudes, a capacitance detection dynamic range of up to 123 dB was achieved. The spatial resolution improvement was confirmed by the experimentally obtained modulation transfer function for Chip B with various line and space pattens. The examples of capacitance imaging using the fabricated chips were also demonstrated.

This exploratory study compared doses of ferucarbotran, a superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticle, in sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) and quantified the SLN iron load by dose and localization. Eighteen females aged ≥20 years scheduled for an SLN biopsy with node-negative breast cancer were divided into two equal groups and administered either 1 mL or 0.5 mL ferucarbotran. Iron content was evaluated with a handheld magnetometer and quantification device. The average iron content was 42.8 µg (range, 1.3-95.0; 0.15% of the injected dose) and 21.9 µg (1.1-71.0; 0.16%) in the 1-mL and 0.5-mL groups, respectively ( p = 0.131). The iron content of the closest SLN compared to the second SLN was 53.0 vs. 10.0 µg (19% of the injected dose) and 34.8 vs. 4.1 µg (11.1%) for the 1-mL and 0.5-mL groups, respectively ( p = 0.001 for both). The magnetic field was high in both groups (average 7.30 µT and 6.00 µT in the 1-mL and 0.5-mL groups, respectively) but was not statistically significant ( p = 0.918). The magnetic field and iron content were correlated (overall SLNs, p = 0.02; 1-mL, p = 0.014; 0.5-mL, p = 0.010). A 0.5-mL dose was sufficient for SLN identification. Primary and secondary SLNs could be differentiated based on iron content. Handheld magnetometers could be used to assess the SLN iron content.

A distinct set of channels and transporters regulates the ion fluxes across the lysosomal membrane. Malfunctioning of these transport proteins and the resulting ionic imbalance is involved in various human diseases, such as lysosomal storage disorders, cancer, as well as metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases. As a consequence, these proteins have stimulated strong interest for their suitability as possible drug targets. A detailed functional characterization of many lysosomal channels and transporters is lacking, mainly due to technical difficulties in applying the standard patch-clamp technique to these small intracellular compartments. In this review, we focus on current methods used to unravel the functional properties of lysosomal ion channels and transporters, stressing their advantages and disadvantages and evaluating their fields of applicability.

Three-dimensional organs and tissues can be constructed using hydrogels as support matrices for cells. For the assembly of these gels, chemical and physical reactions that induce gluing should be induced locally in target areas without causing cell damage. Herein, we present a novel electrochemical strategy for gluing hydrogel fibers. In this strategy, a microelectrode electrochemically generated HClO or Ca 2+ , and these chemicals were used to crosslink chitosan-alginate fibers fabricated using interfacial polyelectrolyte complexation. Further, human umbilical vein endothelial cells were incorporated into the fibers, and two such fibers were glued together to construct "+"-shaped hydrogels. After gluing, the hydrogels were embedded in Matrigel and cultured for several days. The cells spread and proliferated along the fibers, indicating that the electrochemical glue was not toxic toward the cells. This is the first report on the use of electrochemical glue for the assembly of hydrogel pieces containing cells. Based on our results, the electrochemical gluing method has promising applications in tissue engineering and the development of organs on a chip.

For biomedical applications, smart materials that are used as sensors or actuators have to match some criteria, especially bio-compatibility and softness. Smart polymers are candidates that fulfill these two criteria. A sensitivity to compression is created by adding magnetic particles to a compressible foam polymer. A foam-based composite is fabricated for its small Poisson's ratio, which enables significant compression, up to 50%. This large compression induces a change in its magnetic properties, which can be detected using coils. By setting the sensing coils as a compact array of 3 × 3, the sensor successfully detected and localized an applied deformation.

If a bacterium has motility, it will use the ability to survive and thrive. For many pathogenic species, their motilities are a crucial virulence factor. The form of motility varies among the species. Some use flagella for swimming in liquid, and others use the cell-surface machinery to move over solid surfaces. Spirochetes are distinguished from other bacterial species by their helical or flat wave morphology and periplasmic flagella (PFs). It is believed that the rotation of PFs beneath the outer membrane causes transformation or rolling of the cell body, propelling the spirochetes. Interestingly, some spirochetal species exhibit motility both in liquid and over surfaces, but it is not fully unveiled how the spirochete pathogenicity involves such amphibious motility. This review focuses on the causative agent of zoonosis leptospirosis and discusses the significance of their motility in liquid and on surfaces, called crawling, as a virulence factor.

Fe-Co alloys are attracting attention as magnetostrictive materials for energy harvesting and sensor applications. This work investigated the magnetostriction characteristics and crystal structure of additive-manufactured Fe-Co alloys using directed energy deposition. The additive-manufactured Fe-Co parts tended to exhibit better magnetostrictive performance than the hot-rolled Fe-Co alloy. The anisotropy energy Δ K for the Fe-Co bulk, prepared under a power of 300 W (referred to as bulk-300 W), was larger than for the rolled sample. For the bulk-300 W sample in a particular plane, the piezomagnetic constant 1 was large, irrespective of the direction of the magnetic field. Elongated voids that formed during additive manufacturing changed the magnetostrictive behavior in a direction perpendicular to these voids. Magnetic property measurements showed that the coercivity decreased. Since sensors should be highly responsive, Fe-Co three-dimensional parts produced via additive manufacturing can be applied as force sensors.d was large, irrespective of the direction of the magnetic field. Screening, monitoring, and diagnosis are critical in oncology treatment. However, there are limitations with the current clinical methods, notably the time, cost, and special facilities required for radioisotope-based methods. An alternative approach, which uses magnetic beads, offers faster analyses with safer materials over a wide range of oncological applications. Magnetic beads have been used to detect extracellular vesicles (EVs) in the serum of pancreatic cancer patients with statistically different EV levels in preoperative, postoperative, and negative control samples. By incorporating fluorescence, magnetic beads have been used to quantitatively measure prostate-specific antigen (PSA), a prostate cancer biomarker, which is sensitive enough even at levels found in healthy patients. Immunostaining has also been incorporated with magnetic beads and compared with conventional immunohistochemical methods to detect lesions; the results suggest that immunostained magnetic beads could be used for pathological diagnosis during surgery. Furthermore, magnetic nanoparticles, such as superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs), can detect sentinel lymph nodes in breast cancer in a clinical setting, as well as those in gallbladder cancer in animal models, in a surgery-applicable timeframe. Ultimately, recent research into the applications of magnetic beads in oncology suggests that the screening, monitoring, and diagnosis of cancers could be improved and made more accessible through the adoption of this technology.

Service satisfaction with public policies is an important component of public service quality management, which is of great significance to the improvement of public service quality. Based on an online questionnaire survey and in combination with the characteristics of public policies and services, in this study the influencing factors of residents' satisfaction with COVID-19 pandemic prevention services were analyzed with structural equation modeling. The results reveal that the data fit the model well, and all the hypotheses formulated in this study were supported. Among the factors that were found to directly affect residents' satisfaction with pandemic prevention services, perceived quality (PQ) has the greatest impact on satisfaction, followed by the disaster situation (DS) and policy expectation (PE). The observed variables that have significant impacts on the latent variables were also explored. Regarding the main findings, the residents who were seriously affected by the pandemic tended to have lower satisfaction with the policies and services provided by the government. Moreover, the improvement of PQ was found to significantly increase pandemic prevention service satisfaction (SS). Finally, the residents with a good psychological status during the pandemic were found to have higher satisfaction. According to the results, implications for the prevention and control practices of similar public health emergencies are proposed.

Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) for collaborative robots has become an active research topic recently. Collaborative robots assist human workers in their tasks and improve their efficiency. However, the worker should also feel safe and comfortable while interacting with the robot. In this paper, we propose a human-following motion planning and control scheme for a collaborative robot which supplies the necessary parts and tools to a worker in an assembly process in a factory. In our proposed scheme, a 3-D sensing system is employed to measure the skeletal data of the worker. At each sampling time of the sensing system, an optimal delivery position is estimated using the real-time worker data. At the same time, the future positions of the worker are predicted as probabilistic distributions. A Model Predictive Control (MPC)-based trajectory planner is used to calculate a robot trajectory that supplies the required parts and tools to the worker and follows the predicted future positions of the worker. We have installed our proposed scheme in a collaborative robot system with a 2-DOF planar manipulator. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme enables the robot to provide anytime assistance to a worker who is moving around in the workspace while ensuring the safety and comfort of the worker.

We present a novel methodology based on ion conductance to evaluate the perfusability of vascular vessels in microfluidic devices without microscopic imaging. The devices consisted of five channels, with the center channel filled with fibrin/collagen gel containing human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Fibroblasts were cultured in the other channels to improve the vascular network formation. To form vessel structures bridging the center channel, HUVEC monolayers were prepared on both side walls of the gel. During the culture, the HUVECs migrated from the monolayer and connected to the HUVECs in the gel, and vascular vessels formed, resulting in successful perfusion between the channels after culturing for 3-5 d. To evaluate perfusion without microscopic imaging, Ag/AgCl wires were inserted into the channels, and ion currents were obtained to measure the ion conductance between the channels separated by the HUVEC monolayers. As the HUVEC monolayers blocked the ion current flow, the ion currents were low before vessel formation. In contrast, ion currents increased after vessel formation because of creation of ion current paths. Thus, the observed ion currents were correlated with the perfusability of the vessels, indicating that they can be used as indicators of perfusion during vessel formation in microfluidic devices. The developed methodology will be used for drug screening using organs-on-a-chip containing vascular vessels.

Cellulose acetate (CA) is widely used as an alternative to conventional plastics because of the minor environmental impact of its decomposition cycle. This study synthesized five-layer environmentally friendly composites from CA bioplastic and basalt fibers (BFs) to produce a high-strength marine-biodegradable polymer. Maleic anhydride-grafted polypropylene (PP-g-MAH) was mixed with CA as a surface-active agent (SAA) to understand the effect of surface treatment on the mechanical properties of the composite. Tensile tests and scanning electron microscopy were conducted to observe the fracture surfaces. The ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of the BF/CA composite increased by approximately a factor of 4 after adding 11 vol.% unidirectional BF. When the SAA was added, the UTS of the composite with 11 vol.% BF was multiplied by a factor of about 7, which indicates that the surface treatment has a significant positive effect on the mechanical properties. However, the improvement is not apparent when the added BFs are in a plain weave with a vertical orientation. A photodecomposition experiment was then conducted by adding TiO 2 . Observing the UTS changes of the CA and BF/CA composites, the effect of the photocatalyst on the decomposition of the materials was explored.

By using the stress-impedance (SI) effect of a soft magnetic amorphous FeCuNbSiB alloy, a micromachined force sensor was fabricated and characterized. The alloy was used as a sputtered thin film of 500 nm thickness. To clarify the SI effect in the used material as a thin film, its magnetic and mechanical properties were first investigated. The stress dependence of the magnetic permeability was shown to be caused by the used transducer effect. The sputtered thin film also exhibited a large yield strength of 983 GPa. Even though the fabrication technology for the device is very simple, characterization revealed a gauge factor (GF) of 756, which is several times larger than that achieved with conventional transducer effects, such as the piezoresistive effect. The fabricated device shows great application potential as a tactile sensor.

Categorization based on quasi-joint stiffness (QJS) may help clinicians select appropriate ankle foot orthoses (AFOs). The objectives of the present study were to classify the gait pattern based on ankle joint stiffness, also called QJS, of the gait in patients after stroke and to clarify differences in the type of AFO among 72 patients after stroke. Hierarchical cluster analysis was used to classify gait patterns based on QJS at least one month before the study, which revealed three distinct subgroups (SGs 1, 2, and 3). The proportion of use of AFOs, articulated AFOs, and non-articulated AFOs were significantly different among SGs 1-3. In SG1, with a higher QJS in the early and middle stance, the proportion of the patients using articulated AFOs was higher, whereas in SG3, with a lower QJS in both stances, the proportion of patients using non-articulated AFOs was higher. In SG2, with a lower QJS in the early stance and higher QJS in the middle stance, the proportion of patients using AFOs was lower. These findings indicate that classification of gait patterns based on QJS in patients after stroke may be helpful in selecting AFO. However, large sample sizes are required to confirm these results.

Walking rehabilitation is challenging in stroke patients with sensory impairments. In this study, we examined the two-week effect of an auditory biofeedback prosthesis, Auditory Foot (AF), on the change in the frontal whole body angular momentum (WBAM) range, before and after a two-week walking rehabilitation. We conducted a pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT). We employed statistical Bayesian modeling to understand the mechanism of the rehabilitation effect and predict the expected effect in new patients. The best-performing model indicated that the frontal WBAM range was reduced in the AF group by 12.9-28.7%. This suggests that the use of kinesthetic biofeedback in gait rehabilitation contributes to the suppression of frontal WBAM, resulting in an improved walking balance function in stroke patients.
