This study compared two virtual reality (VR) interaction modes and assessed differences in characteristics, namely usability, emotional responses, flow experience, technology acceptance, activity effectiveness, preference, and satisfaction, aiming to gain insights for proposing design suggestions. The two types of VR interaction examined were freeform creativity, which enabled users to autonomously explore and create using the Gravity Sketch drawing program, and goal-directed training, which involved structured task completion by using a VR dumbbell exercise program developed with Unity. This study involved 33 participants and revealed three key findings. First, both VR modes exhibited excellent results in terms of flow experience, technology acceptance, preference, and satisfaction and evoked strong positive emotions. They also demonstrated shared VR advantages, including overcoming screen constraints and facilitating three-dimensional spatial activities. Second, compared with goal-directed training, freeform creativity elicited greater levels of pleasure, evoked more intense emotional responses, and demonstrated superior performance across related indicators. Third, in terms of usability, goal-directed training surpassed freeform creativity, particularly in overall responsiveness, simplicity, and clarity of information presentation, and learnability, underscoring the importance of enhancing usability for complex tasks in VR application design. Background and Objectives: Frailty in older adults is associated with adverse health outcomes. This study aimed to analyze the frailty status of community-dwelling older adults in Taiwan using the Kihon Checklist (KCL) and explore associations with demographic, physiological, and functional factors. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 278 community-dwelling older adults were classified as robust, prefrail, or frail based on their KCL scores. Participants underwent physical fitness assessments including muscle strength and endurance tests, walking speed tests, and flexibility tests. One-way ANOVA and logistic regression analyses were used to examine differences and associations between frailty status and physical fitness indicators. Results: 36% of participants were robust, 47.1% prefrail, and 16.9% frail. The robust group significantly outperformed the prefrail and frail groups in the 30 s sit-to-stand test, 2.44 m sit-to-walk test, and walking speed (p < 0.001). The 2.44 m sit-to-walk test was a significant predictor of prefrailty (OR = 1.18, 95% CI = 1.02–1.36) after adjusting for other physical fitness indicators. Conclusions: Lower limb functional capacity, particularly in the 2.44 m sit-to-walk test, was significantly associated with pre-frailty among community-dwelling older adults in Taiwan. Early screening, the classification of frailty by the Kihon Checklist, and targeted interventions focusing on lower limb strength, endurance, and mobility are crucial for preventing and delaying frailty progression in older populations. This study aimed to develop a novel fluorescent aptasensor for the quantitative detection of zearalenone (ZEN), addressing the limitations of conventional detection techniques in terms of speed, sensitivity, and ease of use. Nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs) were synthesized via the hydrothermal method, resulting in spherical particles with a diameter of 3.25 nm. These N-CDs demonstrated high water solubility and emitted a bright blue light at 440 nm when excited at 355 nm. The fluorescence of N-CDs was quenched by dispersed gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) through the inner filter effect, while aggregated AuNPs induced by NaCl did not affect the fluorescence of N-CDs. The aptamer could protect AuNPs from NaCl-induced aggregation, but the presence of ZEN weakened this protective effect. Based on this principle, optimal conditions for ZEN detection included 57 mM NaCl, 12.5 nM aptamer concentration, incubation of AuNPs with NaCl for 15 min in Tris-EDTA(TE) buffer, and incubation of aptamer with ZEN and NaCl for 30 min. Under these optimized conditions, the "signal-on" fluorescent aptasensor for ZEN detection showed a linear range of 0.25 to 200 ng/mL with a low detection limit of 0.0875 ng/mL. Furthermore, the developed aptasensor exhibited excellent specificity and could rapidly detect ZEN in corn flour samples or corn oil, achieving satisfactory recovery rates ranging from 84.7% to 108.6%. Background: Myocardial bridging (MB) is a congenital coronary anomaly and an important cause of chest pain. The long-term effects of MB on cardiovascular events remain elusive. Methods: We used the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan to conduct an analysis. All patients who had undergone coronary angiography were considered for inclusion. The primary endpoint was a composite of nonfatal myocardial infarction, nonfatal ischemic stroke, and cardiovascular death. Results: We identified 10,749 patients from 2008 to 2018 and matched them with an equal number of controls by propensity-score matching. The mean follow-up period was 5.78 years. In patients without coronary artery disease, MB increased the risk of the composite endpoint (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.57, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.44–1.72, p < 0.001), which was driven by increased risks of nonfatal myocardial infarction and cardiovascular death. In patients with significant coronary artery disease, MB did not increase the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events. MB was identical to insignificant coronary artery disease from the viewpoint of clinical outcomes. Conclusions: The presence of MB significantly increases cardiovascular risks in patients with normal coronary vessels. The phosphoenol pyruvate–oxaloacetate–pyruvate-derived amino acids (POP-AAs) comprise native intermediates in cellular metabolism, within which the phosphoenol pyruvate–oxaloacetate–pyruvate (POP) node is the switch point among the major metabolic pathways existing in most living organisms. POP-AAs have widespread applications in the nutrition, food, and pharmaceutical industries. These amino acids have been predominantly produced in Escherichia coli and Corynebacterium glutamicum through microbial fermentation. With the rapid increase in market requirements, along with the global food shortage situation, the industrial production capacity of these two bacteria has encountered two bottlenecks: low product conversion efficiency and high cost of raw materials. Aiming to push forward the update and upgrade of engineered strains with higher yield and productivity, this paper presents a comprehensive summarization of the fundamental strategy of metabolic engineering techniques around phosphoenol pyruvate–oxaloacetate–pyruvate node for POP-AA production, including L-tryptophan, L-tyrosine, L-phenylalanine, L-valine, L-lysine, L-threonine, and L-isoleucine. Novel heterologous routes and regulation methods regarding the carbon flux redistribution in the POP node and the formation of amino acids should be taken into consideration to improve POP-AA production to approach maximum theoretical values. High-temperature fasteners are metal parts of gas turbines and steam turbines, which work at high temperatures and under stress for a long time. However, the frequent seizures of fasteners bring great trouble to the normal maintenance of power plants. In this paper, three kinds of dense and controllable CrAlN-based gradient multilayer coatings were prepared on the samples and screws by arc ion plating (AIP) technology. The morphology, composition, structure, nano hardness, adhesion, residual stress, and room temperature tribological performance of the coating were investigated. To evaluate the high-temperature, anti-seizing performance, coated screws were heated to 700 °C for 140 h with a torque of 20 N·m. The results indicate that the CrN/CrAlN multilayer coating shows better comprehensive properties. The characterization of coated screws proved that the coating structures obtained on the screws were similar to the flat samples. However, the as-prepared coating on the screws showed different thickness variation rules, which was related to the clamping method, deposition distance, and screw shape. After a simulation service, the thread of the screw remained intact with similar structure and thinner thickness. The above results indicate that the high-temperature seize prevention of fasteners can be successfully achieved by preparing a CrAlN-based multilayer coating, which is suitable for fasteners with service temperatures below 700 °C. Background: Spheroids generated by tumor cells collected from malignant pleural effusion (MPE) were shown to retain the characteristics of the original tumors. This ex vivo model might be used to predict the response of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) to anticancer treatments. Methods: The characteristics, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation status, and clinical response to EGFR-TKIs treatment of enrolled patients were recorded. The viability of the spheroids generated from MPE of enrolled patients were evaluated by visualization of the formazan product of the MTT assay. Results: Spheroids were generated from 14 patients with NSCLC-related MPE. Patients with EGFR L861Q, L858R, or Exon 19 deletion all received EGFR-TKIs, and five of these seven patients responded to treatment. The viability of the spheroids generated from MPE of these five patients who responded to EGFR-TKIs treatment was significantly reduced after gefitinib treatment. On the other hand, gefitinib treatment did not reduce the viability of the spheroids generated from MPE of patients with EGFR wild type, Exon 20 insertion, or patients with sensitive EGFR mutation but did not respond to EGFR-TKIs treatment. Hyperspectral image classification (HSIC) has garnered increasing attention among researchers. While classical networks like convolution neural networks (CNNs) have achieved satisfactory results with the advent of deep learning, they are confined to processing local information. Vision transformers, despite being effective at establishing long-distance dependencies, face challenges in extracting high-representation features for high-dimensional images. In this paper, we present the multiscale efficient attention with enhanced feature transformer (MEA-EFFormer), which is designed for the efficient extraction of spectral–spatial features, leading to effective classification. MEA-EFFormer employs a multiscale efficient attention feature extraction module to initially extract 3D convolution features and applies effective channel attention to refine spectral information. Following this, 2D convolution features are extracted and integrated with local binary pattern (LBP) spatial information to augment their representation. Then, the processed features are fed into a spectral–spatial enhancement attention (SSEA) module that facilitates interactive enhancement of spectral–spatial information across the three dimensions. Finally, these features undergo classification through a transformer encoder. In this paper, we use the geometric optics and discuss the path of laser beam in a simple laser (concave-plano) cavity with the birefringence crystal. In specific lengths of the laser cavity, we can observe various types of Lissajous-like structural laser modes that can be simulated using our ray tracing model. At the end of this paper, we provide an adjusted ABCD matrix. With the adjusted ABCD matrix and iterative calculation, we can obtain the 3D trajectories which are similar to the experimental results. These structural laser modes can be realized by a Nd:YVO 4 solid-state laser with off-axis pumping. From the comparison between the experimental data and the numerical data, we clarify the relationship between the 3D Lissajous-like structural laser modes and ray trajectory in the laser cavity. Amidst the burgeoning expanse of the poultry sector, the escalation of chicken manure production has ensued, potentially exacerbating ecological contamination. However, the application of chicken manure is bound to transmute the habitat of edaphic microorganisms, precipitating an alteration in the soil's microbial consortium. The composting of biochar-amended chicken manure and wood chips (biochar composting products, BCPs) was used to improve Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris L.) production and regulate soil properties and bacterial community structure. On the 40th day of Chinese cabbage growth, soil and Chinese cabbage were collected for laboratory analysis. The effects of different proportions of BCPs (0, 1%, 3%, 5% and 7% biochar) on soil fertility, enzyme activity, the microbial community and the growth of Chinese cabbage were studied under facility conditions. The results showed that the growth performance and quality of Chinese cabbage were significantly increased with increasing BCP ratios. Soil fertility indicators including pH, AN, AP, AK and SOM were significantly increased, except for the pH value in the 1% BCP group. The activities of phosphatase, catalase and urease were increased for all groups of BCP treatment. The soil microbial community response was significantly different, and the application of 5% and 7% BCPs reduced the abundance, diversity and evenness of soil bacteria. Chinese cabbage growth performance was positively correlated with an increase in BCP supplemental levels in the range of 3–5%. Also, the abundance, diversity and uniformity of the soil microbial community were improved in the 3% BCP treatment group. Therefore, the dominant bacterial phyla were Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteriota, Gemmatimonadota, Myxococcota, Bdellovibrionota and Firmicutes, especially the Bradyrhizobium of Proteobacteria. BCP treatment reduced the degradation of soil organic matter. In addition, it also improved the relative abundance of sequences associated with improving soil fertility. Compared to SnTe and PbTe base materials, the GeTe matrix exhibits a relatively high Seebeck coefficient and power factor but has garnered significant attention due to its poor thermal transport performance and environmental characteristics. As a typical p-type IV–VI group thermoelectric material, W-doped GeTe material can bring additional enhancement to thermoelectric performance. In this study, the introduction of W, Ge1−xWxTe (x = 0, 0.002, 0.005, 0.007, 0.01, 0.03) resulted in the presence of high-valence state atoms, providing additional charge carriers, thereby elevating the material's power factor to a maximum PFpeak of approximately 43 μW cm−1 K−2, while slightly optimizing the Seebeck coefficient of the solid solution. Moreover, W doping can induce defects and promote slight rhombohedral distortion in the crystal structure of GeTe, further reducing the lattice thermal conductivity κlat to as low as approximately 0.14 W m−1 K−1 (x = 0.002 at 673 K), optimizing it to approximately 85% compared to the GeTe matrix. This led to the formation of a p-type multicomponent composite thermoelectric material with ultra-low thermal conductivity. Ultimately, W doping achieves the comprehensive enhancement of the thermoelectric performance of GeTe base materials, with the peak ZT value of sample Ge0.995W0.005Te reaching approximately 0.99 at 673 K, and the average ZT optimized to 0.76 in the high-temperature range of 573–723 K, representing an increase of approximately 17% compared to pristine GeTe within the same temperature range. Background: Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is one type of renal replacement therapy. If patients have problems during the dialysis process, healthcare providers may not be able assist the patients immediately. mHealth can provide patients with information and help them to solve problems in real-time, potentially increasing their willingness to choose PD. Objective: The objectives of this study were to conduct a comprehensive review of free mobile applications for patients with PD on the Internet and to recommend suitable mobile applications to facilitate patient self-management and health. Methods: We conducted a systematic search for PD mobile applications on Google Play and the Apple iTunes Store from 3 to 16 June 2023. Results: A total of 828 identifiable mobile applications were initially identified, and ultimately, 21 met the inclusion criteria. The Mobile App Rating Scale (MARS) assessment of the applications revealed the highest score in the functionality domain, followed by the aesthetics, information, app-specific, subjective quality, and engagement domains, respectively. In the comprehensive self-management of PD, the highest percentage was related to disease-related information. Eutectic high-entropy alloy (EHEA) has an outstanding combination of high strength and excellent ductility due to its dual-phase structure. In this study, AlCoCrFeNi2.1 coatings on stainless steel substrates and bulk AlCoCrFeNi2.1 alloys were prepared by mechanical alloying (MA). The results show that EHEA coatings with a dual-phase microstructure of BCC-AlNi/FCC-CoCrFe were obtained. A long milling duration promotes a uniform microstructure and homogeneous distribution of composition in the EHEA coatings, increasing hardness. Furthermore, annealing treatment encourages the formation of Cr-rich phases and Al-rich oxides, which affect the mechanical properties of coatings and bulk materials. Additionally, the presence of oxide dispersoids can cause the embrittlement of materials due to the formation of Al-Y-O oxide pores, resulting in the degradation of the mechanical properties of materials. mHealth has been utilized in the care of patients with chronic kidney disease, allowing the collection of patient health-related data, offering disease-related information, enabling the tracking and recording of biochemical parameters, and enabling communication with healthcare providers in real time through applications. mHealth may improve the health outcomes in patients with peritoneal dialysis. This systematic review aimed to summarize evidence regarding the functionality and usability of mHealth apps in patients with peritoneal dialysis. We conducted a comprehensive literature review, searching in five databases, including CINAHL, Cochrane, PsycINFO, PubMed, and Web of Science, to retrieve titles and abstracts related to peritoneal dialysis and mHealth applications for PRISMA recommendations from January 2013 to December 2023. Overall, 11 studies met all the inclusion criteria. The functionality of mHealth apps included inform, instruct, record, display, guide, remind/alert, and communicate. Most of the apps have multifunctionality. The usability was categorized into three aspects: efficiency (self-efficacy and usability), satisfaction, and effectiveness (underwent kidney transplantation and switched to hemodialysis, rehospitalization, peritonitis rate, infection rates at exit sites, mortality, fluid overload, inadequate solute clearance, biochemical values, quality of life, consumer quality index, and technology readiness). Generally, outcomes in the intervention group had better effects compared to those in the control group. Multifunctional mHealth apps show a good potential in improving the efficiency, satisfaction, and effectiveness for patients compared to traditional care. Simple Summary: Esophageal carcinoma (EC) is a major cause of cancer deaths since it is first undetectable in its early stages. Narrow-band imaging (NBI) detects EC more accurately, sensitively, and specifically than white light imaging (WLI), according to many studies. This work uses a color space connected to décor to change WLIs into NBIs, improving early EC identification. The YOLOv5 algorithm was utilized to train WLI and NBI images separately, demonstrating the versatility of sophisticated object identification approaches in medical image analysis. Based on the confusion matrix and the trained model's precision, recall, specificity, accuracy, and F1-score, the model's performance was assessed. The model was trained to reliably identify dysplasia, squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and polyps, demonstrating a detailed and focused examination of EC pathology for a better understanding. Dysplasia cancer, a pre-cancerous stage that may increase five-year survival, was detected with higher recall and accuracy by the NBI model. Although the NBI and WLI models recognized the polyp identically, the SCC category lowered its accuracy and recall rate. The NBI model had an accuracy of 0.60, 0.81, and 0.66 in dysplasia, SCC, and polyp categories, and recall rates of 0.40, 0.73, and 0.76. In dysplasia, SCC, and polyp categories, the WLI model was 0.56, 0.99, and 0.65 accurate. Additionally, it had recall rates of 0.39, 0.86, and 0.78 in the same categories. The NBI model performs poorly due to a small collection of training pictures. Increasing the dataset can improve performance. Multiple studies have shown that narrow-band imaging (NBI) has superior accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity in detecting EC compared to white light imaging (WLI). Thus, this study innovatively employs a color space linked to décor to transform WLIs into NBIs, offering a novel approach to enhance the detection capabilities of EC in its early stages. In this study a total of 3415 WLI along with the corresponding 3415 simulated NBI images were used for analysis combined with the YOLOv5 algorithm to train the WLI images and the NBI images individually showcasing the adaptability of advanced object detection techniques in the context of medical image analysis. The evaluation of the model's performance was based on the produced confusion matrix and five key metrics: precision, recall, specificity, accuracy, and F1-score of the trained model. The model underwent training to accurately identify three specific manifestations of EC, namely dysplasia, squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and polyps demonstrates a nuanced and targeted analysis, addressing diverse aspects of EC pathology for a more comprehensive understanding. The NBI model effectively enhanced both its recall and accuracy rates in detecting dysplasia cancer, a pre-cancerous stage that might improve the overall five-year survival rate. Conversely, the SCC category decreased its accuracy and recall rate, although the NBI and WLI models performed similarly in recognizing the polyp. The NBI model demonstrated an accuracy of 0.60, 0.81, and 0.66 in the dysplasia, SCC, and polyp categories, respectively. Additionally, it attained a recall rate of 0.40, 0.73, and 0.76 in the same categories. The WLI model demonstrated an accuracy of 0.56, 0.99, and 0.65 in the dysplasia, SCC, and polyp categories, respectively. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of two circulation modes of a plasma deodorization unit on the air environment of pig-fattening houses in winter. Two pig-fattening houses were selected, one of which was installed with a plasma deodorizing device with two modes of operation, alternating internal and external circulation on a day-by-day basis. The other house did not have any form of treatment and was used as the control house. Upon installing the system, this study revealed that in the internal circulation mode, indoor temperature and humidity were sustained at elevated levels, with the NH3 and H2S concentrations decreasing by 63.87% and 100%, respectively, in comparison to the control house. Conversely, in the external circulation mode, the indoor temperature and humidity remained subdued, accompanied by a 16.43% reduction in CO2 concentration. The adept interchange between these two operational modes facilitates the regulation of indoor air quality within a secure environment. This not only effectively diminishes deleterious gases in the pig-fattening house but also achieves the remote automation of environmental monitoring and hazardous gas management; thereby, it mitigates the likelihood of diseases and minimizes breeding risks. Fiber lasers are commonly used in many industrial applications, such as cutting, welding, marking, and additive manufacturing. In a fiber laser system, the driver of a pumping source using a laser diode (LD) module and its dynamic control capability directly affect the performance of the fiber laser system. The commercial design of pumping source drivers for high-power fiber lasers is mainly based on a linear-type DC power supply, which has two major drawbacks, i.e., lower efficiency and bulk. In this regard, this paper proposes for the first time a new design approach with a programmable switching mode laser diode driver using a power semiconductor device (PSD)-based full-bridge phase-shifted (FB-PS) DC-DC converter for driving a 200 W optical power laser diode module. In this paper, the characteristics of a laser diode module and the system configuration of the proposed laser diode driver are first introduced. Then, a current control scheme using the concept of phase angle shifting to achieve a fast dynamic current tracking feature is explained. The proposed current control technique with a fully digital control scheme is then addressed. Next, dynamic mathematical models of the laser diode driver system and controllers are derived, and the quantitative design detail of the controller is presented. To confirm the correctness of the proposed control scheme, a simulation study on a typical control case is performed in PSIM 9.1 software environment. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed LD driver, a digital signal processor is then used as the control core to construct a hardware prototype implementation for performing experimental tests. 89Zr-iPET has been widely used for preclinical and clinical immunotherapy studies to predict patient stratification or evaluate therapeutic efficacy. In this study, we prepared and evaluated 89Zr-DFO-anti-PD-L1-mAb tracers with varying chelator-to-antibody ratios (CARs), including 89Zr-DFO-anti-PD-L1-mAb_3X (tracer_3X), 89Zr-DFO-anti-PD-L1-mAb_10X (tracer_10X), and 89Zr-DFO-anti-PD-L1-mAb_20X (tracer_20X). The DFO-anti-PD-L1-mAb conjugates with varying CARs were prepared using a random conjugation method and then subjected to quality control. The conjugates were radiolabeled with 89Zr and evaluated in a PD-L1-expressing CT26 tumor-bearing mouse model. Next, iPET imaging, biodistribution, pharmacokinetics, and ex vivo pathological and immunohistochemical examinations were conducted. LC–MS analysis revealed that DFO-anti-PD-L1-mAb conjugates were prepared with CARs ranging from 0.4 to 2.0. Radiochemical purity for all tracer groups was >99% after purification. The specific activity levels of tracer_3X, tracer_10X, and tracer_20X were 2.2 ± 0.6, 8.2 ± 0.6, and 10.5 ± 1.6 μCi/μg, respectively. 89Zr-iPET imaging showed evident tumor uptake in all tracer groups and reached the maximum uptake value at 24 h postinjection (p.i.). Biodistribution data at 168 h p.i. revealed that the tumor-to-liver, tumor-to-muscle, and tumor-to-blood uptake ratios for tracer_3X, tracer_10X, and tracer_20X were 0.46 ± 0.14, 0.58 ± 0.33, and 1.54 ± 0.51; 4.7 ± 1.3, 7.1 ± 3.9, and 14.7 ± 1.1; and 13.1 ± 5.8, 19.4 ± 13.8, and 41.3 ± 10.6, respectively. Significant differences were observed between tracer_3X and tracer_20X in the aforementioned uptake ratios at 168 h p.i. The mean residence time and elimination half-life for tracer_3X, tracer_10X, and tracer_20X were 25.4 ± 4.9, 24.2 ± 6.1, and 25.8 ± 3.3 h and 11.8 ± 0.5, 11.1 ± 0.7, and 11.7 ± 0.6 h, respectively. No statistical differences were found between-tracer in the aforementioned pharmacokinetic parameters. With the increasing prevalence of sleep deprivation (SD)-related disorders, the effective treatment of sleep disorders has become a critical health research topic. Thus, we hypothesized and investigated the effectiveness of a 3-week melatonin intervention on neuropsychiatric behavioral responses mediated throughout melatonin receptors, gut microbiota, and lipid metabolites in rats with chronic SD. Eighteen 6-week-old Wistar rats were used and divided into the control grup (C, n = 6), SD group (n = 6), and melatonin-supplemented group (SDM, n = 6). During weeks 0 to 6, animals were provided with the AIN-93M diet and free access to water. Four-week chronic SD was conducted from weeks 7 to 10. Exogenous melatonin administration (10 mg/kg BW) was injected intraperitoneally 1 h before the daily administration of SD for 3 weeks in the SDM group. SD rats exhibited anxiety-like behavior, depression-like behavior, and cognitive impairment. Exogenous melatonin administration ameliorated neuropsychiatric behaviors induced by chronic SD. Analysis of fecal metabolites indicated that melatonin may influence brain messaging through the microbiota–gut–brain axis by increasing the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) and decreasing the production of secondary bile acids (SBA). Four-week SD reduced the cerebral cortex expression of MT1, but not in the colon. Chronic SD led to anxiety and depression-like behaviors and cognitive decline, as well as the reduced intestinal level of SCFAs and the enhanced intestinal level of SBAs in rats. Carrier phase measurements currently play a crucial role in achieving rapid and highly accurate positioning of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). Resolving the integer ambiguity correctly is one of the key steps in this process. To address the inefficiency and slow search problem during ambiguity solving, we propose a single-frequency GNSS integer ambiguity solving based on an adaptive genetic particle swarm optimization (AGPSO) algorithm. Initially, we solve for the floating-point solution and its corresponding covariance matrix using the carrier-phase double difference equation. Subsequently, we decorrelate it using the inverse integer Cholesky algorithm. Furthermore, we introduce an improved fitness function to enhance convergence and search performance. Finally, we combine a particle swarm optimization algorithm with adaptive weights to conduct an integer ambiguity search, where each generation selectively undergoes half-random crossover and mutation operations to facilitate escaping local optima. Comparative studies against traditional algorithms and other intelligent algorithms demonstrate that the AGPSO algorithm exhibits faster convergence rates, improved stability in integer ambiguity search results, and in practical experiments the baseline accuracy of the solution is within 0.02 m, which has some application value in the practical situation of short baselines. The high prevalence of kidney diseases and the low identification rate of drug nephrotoxicity in preclinical studies reinforce the need for representative yet feasible renal models. Although in vitro cell-based models utilizing renal proximal tubules are widely used for kidney research, many proximal tubule cell (PTC) lines have been indicated to be less sensitive to nephrotoxins, mainly due to altered expression of transporters under a two-dimensional culture (2D) environment. Here, we selected HK-2 cells to establish a simplified three-dimensional (3D) model using gelatin sponges as scaffolds. In addition to cell viability and morphology, we conducted a comprehensive transcriptome comparison and correlation analysis of 2D and 3D cultured HK-2 cells to native human PTCs. Our 3D model displayed stable and long-term growth with a tubule-like morphology and demonstrated a more comparable gene expression profile to native human PTCs compared to the 2D model. Many missing or low expressions of major genes involved in PTC transport and metabolic processes were restored, which is crucial for successful nephrotoxicity prediction. Consequently, we established a cost-effective yet more representative model for in vivo PTC studies and presented a comprehensive transcriptome analysis for the systematic characterization of PTC lines. Simple Summary: Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) is a small, patient-friendly tool used for medical imaging, but it lacks narrow band imaging (NBI), which is crucial for detecting various cancers like esophageal cancer (EC). EC is hard to detect early since it often shows no symptoms, leading to a low 5-year survival rate. NBI enhances mucosal features for early cancer identification, but adding it to VCE isn't feasible due to size constraints. This study successfully developed a method to convert traditional white light images (WLI) from VCE into NBI-like images for esophageal examination. The method performed well, with high similarity scores and improved image quality, offering a promising solution for better cancer detection. Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) is increasingly used to decrease discomfort among patients owing to its small size. However, VCE has a major drawback of not having narrow band imaging (NBI) functionality. The current VCE has the traditional white light imaging (WLI) only, which has poor performance in the computer-aided detection (CAD) of different types of cancer compared to NBI. Specific cancers, such as esophageal cancer (EC), do not exhibit any early biomarkers, making their early detection difficult. In most cases, the symptoms are unnoticeable, and EC is diagnosed only in later stages, making its 5-year survival rate below 20% on average. NBI filters provide particular wavelengths that increase the contrast and enhance certain features of the mucosa, thereby enabling early identification of EC. However, VCE does not have a slot for NBI functionality because its size cannot be increased. Hence, NBI image conversion from WLI can presently only be achieved in post-processing. In this study, a complete arithmetic assessment of the decorrelated color space was conducted to generate NBI images from WLI images for VCE of the esophagus. Three parameters, structural similarity index metric (SSIM), entropy, and peak-signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), were used to assess the simulated NBI images. Simple Summary: In this study, we used Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database to investigate the potential association between sleep disorder (SD) and colorectal cancer (CRC) after matching 177,707 patients with SD and without a history of CRC with 177,707 non-SD and non-CRC Taiwanese citizens without SD and without CRC based on age and gender. The results demonstrated a significantly higher likelihood of developing CRC in SD patients compared to the control group. Subgroup analysis revealed that among the four different types of SD, the insomnia group exhibited a significantly elevated risk of CRC. It should be noted that individuals simultaneously affected with sleep apnea and insomnia had a significantly higher risk of developing CRC than those with either condition alone. However, the potential contribution of other SDs to the incidence of CRC remains unexplored. The objective of this study was to examine the effects of SDs on the risk of developing CRC. This study assessed CRC risk among individuals diagnosed with SDs compared with age- and sex-matched unaffected individuals. A longitudinal, nationwide, population-based cohort study was conducted using data from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) encompassing 177,707 individuals diagnosed with SDs and 177,707 matched controls. Cox proportional hazard regression analysis was used to determine the relative increased risk of CRC in individuals with SDs and specific subgroups of SDs. The CRC incidences were 1.32-fold higher (95% CI 1.23–1.42) in the overall SD cohort, 1.17-fold higher (95% CI 0.82–1.68) in the SA cohort, 1.42-fold higher (95% CI 1.31–1.55) in the insomnia cohort, 1.27-fold higher (95% CI 1.17–1.38) in the sleep disturbance cohort, and 1.00-fold higher (95% CI 0.77–1.29) in the other SD cohort, after adjusting for age, sex, and comorbidities. Obstructive Sleep Apnea–Hypopnea Syndrome (OSAHS), a severe respiratory sleep disorder, presents a significant threat to human health and even endangers life. As snoring is the most noticeable symptom of OSAHS, identifying OSAHS via snoring sound analysis is vital. This study aims to analyze the time-domain and frequency-domain characteristics of snoring sounds to detect OSAHS and its severity. The snoring sounds are extracted and scrutinized from nighttime acoustic signals, with spectral energy ratio features being applied, calculated via the snore detection frequency division method. A variety of time and frequency-domain features are derived from the snoring sounds. A novel Snore Detection Cepstral Coefficient (SDCC) is proposed, based on Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs) and snore detection frequency division. Relief-F feature screening is then applied to SDCC and MFCC. Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA) is utilized on the fusion features obtained as a result, and the results indicate the highest accuracy (97.8%) with Subspace KNN. The optimal classifier with feature combination is used for the snore model of OSASH early warnings all night, effectively recognizing and assessing OSAHS and reflecting the severity of its disease. This result, achieving high accuracy and low computational complexity, shows that the proposed method holds significant promise for developing portable sleep health detection devices. The basic physical and chemical qualities, nutrition, aroma components, and sensory evaluation of 17 varieties of table grapes were studied. The quality evaluation system of different table grape varieties was preliminarily determined. Our results show that the soluble solid content in Ruby Seedless was 21.17%, which was higher than that of other varieties. The black varieties Aishenmeigui and Sweet Sapphire had the highest total phenol content. Aishenmeigui had high levels of tannin and vitamin C. In addition, the aroma contents in Meixiangbao, Ruby Seedless, and Shine-Muscat were higher than those in other varieties. Manicure Finger and Ruby Seedless had higher levels of C6 compounds. Moreover, the "Kyoho" series of grape Meixiangbao, Sunmmer Black, Jumeigui, Hutai 8 hao, and Black Beet were high in ester content, while Muscat varieties, including Zaoheibao, Aishenmeigui, Jumeigui, and Shine-Muscat were rich in terpene substances. Ruby Seedless, Shine-Muscat, and Heibaladuo had higher comprehensive scores in sensory evaluation. Hence, the comprehensive quality of Shine-Muscat, Ruby Seedless, and Aishenmeigui was better. Glucose homeostasis in the body is determined by four diabetes factors (DFs): insulin resistance (IR), glucose effectiveness (GE), and the two phases of insulin secretion—first phase (FPIS) and second phase (SPIS). Previous research points to a correlation between elevated levels of gamma-glutamyl transferase (γGT) and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes. This study investigates the relationship between γGT and the four DFs in older Chinese individuals. This study involved 2644 men and 2598 women, all of whom were relatively healthy Chinese individuals aged 60 years or more. The DFs were calculated using formulas developed by our research, based on demographic data and factors related to metabolic syndrome. Pearson's correlation was utilized to assess the relationship between γGT and the four DFs. The findings suggested a positive correlation between γGT and IR, FPIS, and SPIS, but a negative correlation with GE in men. Among women, only SPIS and GE were significantly correlated with γGT. The factors showed varying degrees of correlation, listed in descending order as follows: GE, SPIS, FPIS, and IR. Three-dimensional (3D) in vitro spheroid/organoid culture increasingly appears to better mimic physiological states than standard 2D systems. The biological consequence of 3D spheroids, however, differs for different cell types: for pluripotent embryonic stem cells (ESCs), differentiation and loss of stemness occur, while the converse is true for somatic and cancer cells. Despite such diverse consequences, there are likely conserved mechanisms governing 3D spheroid formation across cell types that are unknown but could be efficiently targeted for translational application. To elucidate such processes, we performed transcriptome analysis with functional validation on 2D- and 3D-cultured mouse ESCs, mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MSCs), and cancer cells. At both the transcriptomic and functional levels, 3D spheroid formation resulted in commitment towards known cell-specific functional outcomes. Surprisingly in all cell types, downregulation of the cholesterol synthesis pathway was found during 3D spheroid formation, with modulation concomitantly affecting 3D spheroid formation and cell-specific consequences; similar results were seen with human cell types. Furthermore, improved antioxidant capacity after 3D spheroid formation across cell types was further enhanced with modulation of the pathway. These findings demonstrate the profound cell-specific consequences and the translational value of understanding conserved mechanisms across diverse cell types after 3D spheroid formation. The automobile is an important part of transportation systems. Accurate prediction of sales prospects of different power vehicles can provide an important reference for national scientific decision making, flexible operation of enterprises and rational purchases of consumers. Considering that China has achieved the goal of 20% sales of new energy vehicles ahead of schedule in 2025, in order to accurately judge the competition pattern of new and old kinetic energy vehicles in the future, the automobile market is divided into three types according to power types: traditional fuel vehicles, new energy vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Based on the monthly sales data of automobiles from March 2016 to March 2023, the prediction effects of multiple models are compared from the perspective of univariate prediction. Secondly, based on the perspective of multivariate prediction, combined with the data of economic, social and technical factors, a multivariate prediction model with high prediction accuracy is selected. On this basis, the sales volume of various power vehicles from April 2023 to December 2025 is predicted. Univariate prediction results show that in 2025, the penetration rates of three types of vehicles will reach 43.8%, 44.4% and 11.8%, respectively, and multivariate prediction results show that the penetration rates will reach 51.0%, 37.9% and 11.1%, respectively. A concise, efficient continuous-wave eye-safe Nd:GdVO4/KGW Raman laser at 1525 nm is here demonstrated. A Nd:GdVO4 crystal was used to produce the fundamental field at 1341 nm and a KGW crystal generated the intracavity Stokes field at 1525 nm via wavelength conversion of stimulated Raman scattering. The output power of the Stokes field at 1525 nm could achieve 2.1 W under the pump power of 30 W. Furthermore, two different lithium triborate (LBO) crystals with critical phase matching were exploited to obtain deep-red emission at 714 nm via the intracavity sum frequency generation of 1341 and 1525 nm waves. One cutting angle was in the XY plane and the other was in the XZ plane. The empirical thermo-optical coefficients for the LBO crystal were exploited to systematically analyze the critical phase matching conditions. Numerical results revealed that the type-I phase matching angle in the XY plane was near θ = 90° and ϕ = 3.3° at room temperature, whereas the type-I phase matching angle in the XZ plane was near θ = 86.3° and ϕ = 0° at a temperature around 47 °C. The numerical values for the optimal temperatures for the two different cutting angles were found to be in good agreement with experimental results. At the pump power of 30 W, the output power at 714 nm was approximately 2.9 W by using the LBO crystal with the cutting angle in the XY plane. On the other hand, the maximum output power at 714 nm could be up to 3.2 W under the pump power of 30 W by using the cutting angle in the XZ plane. Furthermore, the linewidth of the SFG emission was confirmed to be nearly the same for the two different cutting angles. The overall linewidth could be narrower than 0.2 nm. Background: The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has resulted in significant changes in nursing education. Maintaining social distance could slow down the spread of COVID-19, and it was necessary, but it significantly reduced students' hands-on clinical practice experience in healthcare settings. Traditional classroom teaching in schools has transitioned to distance or online learning methods, which significantly reduced students' hands-on clinical practice experience in healthcare settings. Although distance education had been implemented for a long time, there are many problems and challenges to be resolved. The experiences and needs of nursing students in remote clinical training urgently require further understanding. Purpose: To understand the stress and coping strategies of online nursing practicum courses for Taiwanese nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A qualitative research approach with purposive sampling was supplemented by snowball sampling. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, and the data were collected following the eight-step process outlined by Waltz, Strickland, and Lenz (2010). The participants were 12 nursing students on a two-year nursing RN-to-BSN program at a university in Eastern Taiwan, consisting of 11 females and 1 male student. Findings: The stress and coping behaviors of nursing students consist of four main themes, each with three subthemes, including "urgent changes", "the gaps between online courses and practical operations", "mixed feelings of joy and anxiety" and "unexpected gains". Conclusions: The pandemic has impacted nursing students' learning and living. Engaging in online nursing practicum brought about significant stress; nevertheless, students employed various coping strategies to navigate through this challenging period. Aim: Several studies have demonstrated that factors including diabetes, including insulin resistance (IR), glucose effectiveness (GE), and the first and second phase of insulin secretion (FPIS, SPIS) could easily be calculated using basic characteristics and biochemistry profiles. Aging is accompanied by deteriorations of insulin resistance (IR) and insulin secretion. However, little is known about the roles of aging in the different phases of insulin secretion (ISEC), i.e., the first and second phase of insulin secretion (FPIS, SPIS), and glucose effectiveness (GE). Methods: In total, 169 individuals (43 men and 126 women) recruited from the data bank of the Meei-Jaw (MJ) Health Screening Center and Cardinal Tien Hospital Data Access Center between 1999 and 2008, with a similar fasting plasma glucose (FPG: 90 mg/dL) and BMI (men: 23 kg/m2, women 22 kg/m2) were enrolled. The IR, FPIS, SPIS, and GE were estimated using our previously developed equations shown below. Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to assess the correlations between age and four diabetes factors (DFs: IR, FPIS, SPIS, and GE). The equations that are used to calculate the DF in the present study were built and published by our group. Results: The age of the participants ranged from 18 to 78 years. Men had higher FPIS but lower HDL-C levels than women (2.067 ± 0.159, 1.950 ± 0.186 μU/min and 1.130 ± 0.306, 1.348 ± 0.357 mmol/dl, accordingly). The results of the Pearson correlation revealed that age was negatively related to the IR and GE in both genders (IR: r = −0.39, p < 0.001 for men, r = −0.24, p < 0.003 for women; GE: r = 0.66, p < 0.001 for men, r = 0.78, p < 0.001 for women). At the same time, the FPIS was also only found to be negatively correlated with age in females (r = −0.238, p = 0.003), but there was no difference in the SPIS and age among both genders. Conclusions: We have found that in Chinese subjects with a normal FPG level (90 mg/dL) and body mass index (men: 23 kg/m2, women: 22: kg/m2), age is negatively related to the IR and GE among both genders. Only the FPIS was found to be negatively related to age in women. The tightness of their relationships, from the highest to the lowest, are GE, FPIS, and IR. This study investigates the effects of incorporating MgO into magnesium–calcium (Mg-Ca) alloy composites and subjecting them to the equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) process on the resulting mechanical and corrosive properties, as well as biocompatibility. Initially, the incorporation of MgO into the Mg-Ca alloy composites did not yield significant improvements in grain refinement, tensile strength, or corrosion rate reduction, despite exhibiting improved biocompatibility. However, upon subjecting the Mg-Ca-MgO alloy composites to the ECAP process, noteworthy outcomes were observed. The ECAP process resulted in substantial grain refinement, leading to significant improvements in tensile strength. Furthermore, a marked decrease in corrosion rate was observed, indicating enhanced corrosion resistance. Additionally, the biocompatibility of the Mg-Ca-MgO alloy composites improved after undergoing the ECAP process. These findings highlight the synergistic effect of incorporating MgO and employing the ECAP process, providing valuable insights into the development of advanced magnesium-based materials with superior mechanical properties, reduced corrosion rates, and improved biocompatibility. This study aimed to provide up-to-date information regarding the estimated prevalence of developmental coordination disorder (DCD) in Taiwanese children. Their unhealthy weight status was also examined, as well as the roles of sex and age. This cross-sectional study recruited 825 children aged between 4 and 12 years and categorized them into either typically developing children (TD, >16th percentile) or children at risk for DCD (rDCD, ≤16th percentile) based on the result of the Movement Assessment Battery for Children—2nd edition. Body mass index was calculated to determine weight status (i.e., normal weight, underweight, overweight, and obesity). The estimated prevalence of rDCD was 9.7%. There were significantly more boys in the rDCD groups (p < 0.001). Additionally, preschool children with rDCD were at greater risk for being underweight. However, there was no significant group difference which was found for overweight/obesity. A lower prevalence of rDCD was found in this study. Ketamine has been abused as a psychedelic agent and causes diverse neurobehavioral changes. Adolescence is a critical developmental stage but vulnerable to substances and environmental stimuli. Growing evidence shows that ketamine affects glutamatergic neurotransmission, which is important for memory storage, addiction, and psychosis. To explore diverse biological responses, this study was designed to assess ketamine sensitivity in mice of different ages and strains. Male C57BL/6J and BALB/c mice were studied in adolescence and adulthood separately. An open field test assessed motor behavioral changes. After a 30-min baseline habituation, mice were injected with ketamine (0, 25, and 50 mg/kg), and their locomotion was measured for 60 min. Following ketamine injection, the travelled distance and speed significantly increased in C57BL/6J mice between both age groups (p < 0.01), but not in BALB/c mice. The pattern of hyperlocomotion showed that mice were delayed at the higher dose (50 mg/kg) compared to the lower dose (25 mg/kg) of ketamine treatment. Ketamine accentuated locomotor activation in adolescent C57BL/6J mice compared to adults, but not in the BALB/c strain. Here, we show that ketamine-induced locomotor behavior is modulated by dose and age. The discrepancy of neurobehaviors in the two strains of mice indicates that sensitivity to ketamine is biologically determined. Based on a difference-in-differences model, this study examines the effect of environmental regulation on the market competitiveness of heavily polluting enterprises, their mechanisms, and the space for effective implementation. Which all listed heavily polluting enterprises between 2010 and 2019 are included as the experimental group, and all other firms in the same industries listed on the Chinese stock market as the control group. The results indicate that environmental regulations have significantly increased the market competitiveness of heavily polluting enterprises in China. Furthermore, China's New Environmental Protection Law (NEPL) has improved the market competitiveness of heavily polluting enterprises through strategic, flexible mitigation effects. Finally, the NEPL in regions with eastern or non-state enterprises has a significant impact on market competitiveness. This paper presents an RGB-NIR (Near Infrared) dual-modality technique to analyze the remote photoplethysmogram (rPPG) signal and hence estimate the heart rate (in beats per minute), from a facial image sequence. Our main innovative contribution is the introduction of several denoising techniques such as Modified Amplitude Selective Filtering (MASF), Wavelet Decomposition (WD), and Robust Principal Component Analysis (RPCA), which take advantage of RGB and NIR band characteristics to uncover the rPPG signals effectively through this Independent Component Analysis (ICA)-based algorithm. Two datasets, of which one is the public PURE dataset and the other is the CCUHR dataset built with a popular Intel RealSense D435 RGB-D camera, are adopted in our experiments. Facial video sequences in the two datasets are diverse in nature with normal brightness, under-illumination (i.e., dark), and facial motion. Experimental results show that the proposed method has reached competitive accuracies among the state-of-the-art methods even at a shorter video length. For example, our method achieves MAE = 4.45 bpm (beats per minute) and RMSE = 6.18 bpm for RGB-NIR videos of 10 and 20 s in the CCUHR dataset and MAE = 3.24 bpm and RMSE = 4.1 bpm for RGB videos of 60-s in the PURE dataset. Broadband reverse saturable absorption is systematically investigated via Z-scan, transient absorption spectrum (TAS). The excited state absorption and negative refraction of Orange IV are observed in the Z-scan experiment at 532 nm. Meanwhile, two-photon-induced excited state absorption and pure two-photon absorption are observed at 600 nm and 700 nm with the pulse width of 190 fs, respectively. An ultrafast broadband absorption in the visible wavelength region is observed via TAS. The different nonlinear absorption mechanisms at multiple wavelengths are discussed and interpreted from the results of TAS. In addition, the ultrafast dynamics of negative refraction in the excited state of Orange IV are investigated via a degenerate phase object pump-probe, from which the weak long-lived excited state is extracted. All studies indicate that Orange IV has the potential to be further optimized into a superior broadband reverse saturable absorption material and also has certain reference significance for the study of optical nonlinearity in organic molecules containing azobenzene groups. IL52 is a valuable introgression line obtained from interspecific hybridization between cultivated cucumber (Cucumis sativus L., 2n = 14) and the wild relative species C. hystrix Chakr. (2n = 24). IL52 exhibits high resistance to a number of diseases, including downy mildew, powdery mildew, and angular leaf spot. However, the ovary- and fruit-related traits of IL52 have not been thoroughly investigated. Here, we conducted quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping for 11 traits related to ovary size, fruit size, and flowering time using a previously developed 155 F7:8 RIL population derived from a cross between CCMC and IL52. In total, 27 QTL associated with the 11 traits were detected, distributed on seven chromosomes. These QTL explained 3.61% to 43.98% of the phenotypic variance. Notably, we identified a major-effect QTL (qOHN4.1) on chromosome 4 associated with the ovary hypanthium neck width and further delimited it into a 114-kb candidate region harboring 13 candidate genes. Furthermore, the QTL qOHN4.1 is co-localized with the QTL detected for ovary length, mature fruit length, and fruit neck length, all residing within the consensus QTL FS4.1, suggesting a plausible pleiotropic effect. Carotid intima-media thickness (c-IMT) is a reliable risk factor for cardiovascular disease risk in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients. The present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of different machine learning methods and traditional multiple logistic regression in predicting c-IMT using baseline features and to establish the most significant risk factors in a T2D cohort. We followed up with 924 patients with T2D for four years, with 75% of the participants used for model development. Machine learning methods, including classification and regression tree, random forest, eXtreme gradient boosting, and Naïve Bayes classifier, were used to predict c-IMT. The results showed that all machine learning methods, except for classification and regression tree, were not inferior to multiple logistic regression in predicting c-IMT in terms of higher area under receiver operation curve. The most significant risk factors for c-IMT were age, sex, creatinine, body mass index, diastolic blood pressure, and duration of diabetes, sequentially. Conclusively, machine learning methods could improve the prediction of c-IMT in T2D patients compared to conventional logistic regression models. Three-dimensional (3D) computer-aided design (CAD) is a vital tool for visualizing design ideas. While conventional parametric CAD modeling is commonly used, emerging virtual reality (VR) applications in 3D CAD modeling require further exploration. This study contrasts the emotional response, flow experience, and operational performance of design novices using VR free-form modeling (Gravity Sketch 3D) and conventional parametric CAD modeling (SolidWorks). We arranged two representative tasks for 30 participants: modeling an exact geometric shape (a cube) and a creative shape (a mug). We measured emotional response and flow experience through scales, and gathered operational performance, and further insights through semistructured interviews. The findings reveal more positive and intense emotional responses to VR free-form modeling, but its overall flow experience did not exceed expectations. No significant differences were found in concentration, time distortion sense, or control between the two techniques. Comparing modeling tasks, VR free-form modeling showed promising operational performance for early ideation, whereas conventional parametric CAD modeling proved to be more effective in 3D digitization of known shapes. Simple Summary: Heart failure is a major public health challenge with similar risk factors to those of cancer. HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, also known as statins, are widely prescribed lipid-lowering agents. Chemoprevention has been reported as a pleiotropic effect of statins. We aimed to evaluate the chemoprotective effect of statins on liver cancer in patients with heart failure and to further identify the differences in effectiveness among statin doses and types. The results demonstrated that statins potentially decreased the risk of liver cancer in patients with heart failure in the entire cohort as well as in sex-, age-, and dose-stratified subgroup analyses as compared with the control group. Moreover, both hydrophilic and lipophilic statins showed significant risk reductions. The findings of the present study demonstrate a potential benefit in terms of liver cancer risk for patients with heart failure using statins. Heart failure (HF) and cancer have similar risk factors. HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, also known as statins, are chemoprotective agents against carcinogenesis. We aimed to evaluate the chemoprotective effects of statins against liver cancer in patients with HF. This cohort study enrolled patients with HF aged ≥20 years between 1 January 2001 and 31 December 2012 from the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan. Each patient was followed to assess liver cancer risk. A total of 25,853 patients with HF were followed for a 12-year period; 7364 patients used statins and 18,489 did not. The liver cancer risk decreased in statin users versus non-users (adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) = 0.26, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.20–0.33) in the entire cohort in the multivariate regression analysis. In addition, both lipophilic and hydrophilic statins reduced the liver cancer risk in patients with HF (aHR 0.34, 95% CI: 0.26–0.44 and aHR 0.42, 95% CI: 0.28–0.54, respectively). In the sensitivity analysis, statin users in all dose-stratified subgroups had a reduced liver cancer risk regardless of age, sex, comorbidity, or other concomitant drug use. Backgrounds: Influenza vaccination could decrease the risk of major cardiac events in patients with hypertension. However, the vaccine's effects on decreasing the risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) development in such patients remain unclear. Methods: We retrospectively analysed the data of 37,117 patients with hypertension (≥55 years old) from the National Health Insurance Research Database during 1 January 2001 to 31 December 2012. After a 1:1 propensity score matching by the year of diagnosis, we divided the patients into vaccinated (n = 15,961) and unvaccinated groups (n = 21,156). Results: In vaccinated group, significantly higher prevalence of comorbidities such as diabetes, cerebrovascular disease, dyslipidemia, heart and liver disease were observed compared with unvaccinated group. After adjusting age, sex, comorbidities, medications (anti-hypertensive agents, metformin, aspirin and statin), level of urbanization and monthly incomes, significantly lower risk of CKD occurrence was observed among vaccinated patients in influenza season, non-influenza season and all season (Adjusted hazard ratio [aHR]: 0.39, 95% confidence level [C.I.]: 0.33–0.46; 0.38, 95% C.I.: 0.31–0.45; 0.38, 95% C.I.: 0.34–0.44, respectively). The risk of hemodialysis significantly decreased after vaccination (aHR: 0.40, 95% C.I.: 0.30–0.53; 0.42, 95% C.I.: 0.31–0.57; 0.41, 95% C.I.: 0.33–0.51, during influenza season, non-influenza season and all season). In sensitivity analysis, patients with different sex, elder and non-elder age, with or without comorbidities and with or without medications had significant decreased risk of CKD occurrence and underwent hemodialysis after vaccination. Moreover, the potential protective effect appeared to be dose-dependent. Conclusions: Influenza vaccination decreases the risk of CKD among patients with hypertension and also decrease the risk of receiving renal replacement therapy. (1) Background: A premature termination codon (PTC) can be induced by a type of point mutation known as a nonsense mutation, which occurs within the coding region. Approximately 3.8% of human cancer patients have nonsense mutations of p53. However, the non-aminoglycoside drug PTC124 has shown potential to promote PTC readthrough and rescue full-length proteins. The COSMIC database contains 201 types of p53 nonsense mutations in cancers. We built a simple and affordable method to create different nonsense mutation clones of p53 for the study of the PTC readthrough activity of PTC124. (2) Methods: A modified inverse PCR-based site-directed mutagenesis method was used to clone the four nonsense mutations of p53, including W91X, S94X, R306X, and R342X. Each clone was transfected into p53 null H1299 cells and then treated with 50 μM of PTC124. (3) Results: PTC124 induced p53 re-expression in H1299-R306X and H1299-R342X clones but not in H1299-W91X and H1299-S94X clones. (4) Conclusions: Our data showed that PTC124 more effectively rescued the C-terminal of p53 nonsense mutations than the N-terminal of p53 nonsense mutations. We report a side-coupled resonator-cavity configuration with a tunable Fano-type interference effect for a novel subwavelength switch. A defective microstrip photonic crystal (PC) structure is designed to provide a continuum state, while a split ring resonator (SRR) is introduced to offer a narrow discrete resonance. The SRR is conductively side-coupled with the microstrip PC cavity in a subwavelength volume. Interactions between them result in Fano-type transmitting spectra with a sharp and asymmetric spectral line profile. A varactor diode serving as the nonlinear medium inclusion is integrated into the slit of the SRR for active control of the sharp Fano resonance. The strongly localized field produced by Fano resonance plays a role in improving the nonlinear properties of the microstrip PC cavity. It is found that a significant blue shift of 94 MHz on the Fano resonance frequency can be achieved by increasing the input power levels from −25 dBm to 8 dBm. We also found that the maximum transmission contrast exceeding 15.9 dB can take place between two bistable states existing at 3.05 dBm and 4.32 dBm for a bidirectional sweep of input power under a monochromatic signal frequency of 1.27 GHz. Simple Summary: Colorectal cancer, chronic kidney disease, and influenza infection were corelated through the chronic inflammation pathway and dysbiosis in the gut. Influenza infections aggravate the chronic inflammation status and dysbiosis in the gut, which may result in tumorigenesis and cause colorectal cancer. Seasonal influenza vaccination is a health policy in Taiwan. The aim of our study was to investigate whether influenza vaccination had a protective effect against colorectal cancer. A total of 12,985 patients with chronic kidney disease are listed in Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database. The present study demonstrated that the influenza vaccine provides a potential protective effect against colorectal cancer in a population with chronic kidney disease. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with malignancy, including colorectal cancer, via the potential mechanism of chronic inflammation status. This study aimed to determine whether influenza vaccines can reduce the risk of colorectal cancer in patients with CKD. Our cohort study enrolled 12,985 patients older than 55 years with a diagnosis of CKD in Taiwan from the National Health Insurance Research Database at any time from 1 January 2001 to 31 December 2012. Patients enrolled in the study were divided into a vaccinated and an unvaccinated group. In this study, 7490 and 5495 patients were unvaccinated and vaccinated, respectively. A propensity score was utilized to reduce bias and adjust the results. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to estimate the correlation between the influenza vaccine and colorectal cancer in patients with CKD. The results showed that the influenza vaccine exerted a protective effect against colorectal cancer in populations with CKD. The incidence rate of colon cancer in the vaccinated group was significantly lower than in the unvaccinated group, with an adjusted hazard rate (HR) of 0.38 (95% CI: 0.30–0.48, p < 0.05). After the propensity score was adjusted for Charlson comorbidity index, age, sex, dyslipidemia, hypertension, diabetes, monthly income, and level of urbanization, the dose-dependent effect was found, and it revealed adjusted HRs of 0.74 (95% CI: 0.54–1.00, p < 0.05), 0.41 (95% CI: 0.30–0.57, p < 0.001), 0.16 (95% CI: 0.11–0.25, p < 0.001) for one, two to three, and four or more vaccinations, respectively. In summary, the influenza vaccine was found to be associated with a reduced risk of colorectal cancer in CKD patients. This study highlights the potential chemopreventive effect of influenza vaccination among patients with CKD. Simple Summary: Pholcus is the most diverse spider genus in Pholcidae, and is widely distributed in the Palaearctic, Indo-Malayan, Afrotropical, and Australasian Regions. Previously, the Pholcus spiders have not been recorded from the Lüliang Mountains of North China. We undertook an expedition there for the first time. Phylogenetic analyses of DNA sequence data from four gene fragments (COI, H3, wnt, 28S) suggested that Pholcus from the Lüliang Mountains were grouped into nine well-supported clades. We adopted an integrative approach, including morphology and four methods of molecular species delimitation (ABGD, GMYC, bPTP, and BPP), to investigate species boundaries. Such analyses identified the nine clades as nine separate species, of which eight are new to science. All of them belong to the P. phungiformes species group. Spiders of the genus Pholcus were collected for the first time during an expedition to the Lüliang Mountains in Shanxi Province, North China. Phylogenetic analyses of DNA sequence data from COI, H3, wnt, and 28S genes allowed us to group them into nine well-supported clades. We used morphology and four methods of molecular species delimitation, namely Automatic Barcode Gap Discovery (ABGD), the Generalized Mixed Yule Coalescent (GMYC), Bayesian Poisson Tree Processes (bPTP), and Bayesian Phylogenetics and Phylogeography (BPP), to investigate species boundaries. These integrative taxonomic analyses identified the nine clades as nine distinct species, comprising Pholcus luya Peng & Zhang, 2013 and eight other species new to science: Pholcus jiaocheng sp. nov., Pholcus linfen sp. nov., Pholcus lishi sp. nov., Pholcus luliang sp. nov., Pholcus wenshui sp. nov., Pholcus xiangfen sp. nov., Pholcus xuanzhong sp. nov., and Pholcus zhongyang sp. nov. The species occur in geographic proximity and show many morphological similarities. All of them belong to the P. phungiformes species group. Secretion of melatonin, a natural hormone whose receptors are present in the ciliary epithelium, displays diurnal variation in the aqueous humor (AH), potentially contributing to the regulation of intraocular pressure. This study aimed to determine the effects of melatonin on AH secretion in porcine ciliary epithelium. The addition of 100 µM melatonin to both sides of the epithelium significantly increased the short-circuit current (Isc) by ~40%. Stromal administration alone had no effect on the Isc, but aqueous application triggered a 40% increase in Isc, similar to that of bilateral application without additive effect. Pre-treatment with niflumic acid abolished melatonin-induced Isc stimulation. More importantly, melatonin stimulated the fluid secretion across the intact ciliary epithelium by ~80% and elicited a sustained increase (~50–60%) in gap junctional permeability between pigmented ciliary epithelial (PE) cells and non-pigmented ciliary epithelial (NPE) cells. The expression of MT3 receptor was found to be >10-fold higher than that of MT1 and MT2 in porcine ciliary epithelium. Aqueous pre-treatment with MT1/MT2 antagonist luzindole failed to inhibit the melatonin-induced Isc response, while MT3 antagonist prazosin pre-treatment abolished the Isc stimulation. The clinical utility of the splenic arterial pulsatility index (SAPI), a duplex Doppler ultrasonographic index, to predict the stage of hepatic fibrosis in hemodialysis patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection remains elusive. We conducted a retrospective, cross-sectional study to include 296 hemodialysis patients with HCV who underwent SAPI assessment and liver stiffness measurements (LSMs). The levels of SAPI were significantly associated with LSMs (Pearson correlation coefficient: 0.413, p < 0.001) and different stages of hepatic fibrosis as determined using LSMs (Spearman's rank correlation coefficient: 0.529, p < 0.001). The areas under receiver operating characteristics (AUROCs) of SAPI to predict the severity of hepatic fibrosis were 0.730 (95% CI: 0.671–0.789) for ≥F1, 0.782 (95% CI: 0.730–0.834) for ≥F2, 0.838 (95% CI: 0.781–0.894) for ≥F3, and 0.851 (95% CI: 0.771–0.931) for F4. Furthermore, the AUROCs of SAPI were comparable to those of the fibrosis index based on four parameters (FIB-4) and superior to those of the aspartate transaminase (AST)-to-platelet ratio index (APRI). The positive predictive value (PPV) for ≥F1 was 79.5% when the Youden index was set at 1.04, and the negative predictive values (NPVs) for ≥F2, ≥F3, and F4 were 79.8%, 92,6%, and 96.9%, respectively, when the maximal Youden indices were set at 1.06, 1.19, and 1.30. The diagnostic accuracies of SAPI with the maximal Youden index for a fibrosis stage of ≥F1, ≥F2, ≥F3, and F4 were 69.6%, 67.2%, 75.0%, and 85.1%, respectively.
