This study explores the impact of corporate governance on firms' environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance, with a focus on board characteristics and ownership structures. Using a panel dataset of 6 financial and 16 non-financial firms listed on the Borsa Istanbul (BIST) from 2013 to 2021, the study investigates how ownership (blockholder, foreign, or institutional) and board composition (size, gender diversity, and foreign directors) influence ESG disclosures. The analysis distinguishes between financial and non-financial firms, revealing that corporate governance mechanisms affect ESG performance differently across sectors. Foreign ownership and the presence of foreign and female board members are positively associated with higher ESG disclosures, while ownership concentration is negatively correlated with ESG performance. These findings suggest caution when comparing firms across sectors based solely on ESG disclosures, as governance factors influence outcomes differently in financial and non-financial contexts. This study provides a detailed analysis of effective corporate governance mechanisms in Türkiye, emphasizing the crucial roles of ownership structure and board composition in enhancing ESG transparency. Nuclear energy, renewable energy, and alternative energy sources are all crucial for sustainable green energy. However, the existing literature often needs to pay more attention to the role of nuclear energy in achieving sustainable development goals. This study analyzes the impact of green technological innovation, nuclear energy consumption, and trade openness on environmental quality in the US. The authors used the ARDL bounds to identify cointegration relationships, which is appropriate for this study's dataset as it works well with smaller samples. They also used the Toda–Yamamoto causality test to examine causal links. The ARDL cointegration results indicate a significant long-term relationship between CO 2 emissions, green technological innovation, nuclear energy consumption, and trade openness. Green technological innovation has a negative impact on CO 2 emissions. Higher nuclear energy consumption is associated with lower CO 2 emissions, while greater trade openness is associated with higher CO 2 emissions, although these effects are less certain. The results suggest promoting green technological innovation and nuclear energy can be effective strategies for reducing CO 2 emissions, while the impact of trade openness requires careful consideration due to its potential to increase emissions. This research aims to reassess the impact of nuclear energy consumption and financial development on environmental quality using annual data from 1993 to 2019 for 11 countries with the highest nuclear energy consumption. Additionally, the study seeks to test the validity of the N-shaped EKC hypothesis. The findings of this study indicate a long-term cointegration relationship between the variables. According to the PCSE model results, increased nuclear energy consumption among the top 11 countries leads to decreased carbon emissions. Furthermore, the study reveals an N-shaped relationship between economic growth and environmental degradation. There is a strong recommendation for enhancing investments and grants directed towards research and development endeavours to identify and implement innovative solutions to reduce carbon emissions and improve environmental quality, particularly in less technologically advanced countries. Such efforts could include allocating more substantial funding to new technologies and encouraging collaborations between academic institutions and industry. Furthermore, considering regulatory adjustments like the liberalization of the energy market with the pro-ecological initiatives mainly carried out by public utilities is crucial as part of a comprehensive strategy to address environmental challenges. Green initiatives and digital transitions in Central European countries are catalyzing significant transformations within the region's socio-economic landscape, embedding contemporary technologies into daily life and commercial activities. Consequently, this fosters improved environmental quality through sustainable practices. This research unravels the complex interplay between renewable energy consumption, digitalization, and financial development in various national contexts, providing key insights into their respective and collective impacts on environmental quality. This study investigates the relationship among environmental quality, digitalization, renewable energy consumption, financial development, and economic growth in Central European countries, analyzing data from 1995 to 2019. An analysis of the panel data reveals a statistically significant positive relationship between economic growth and carbon emissions, and a negative relationship among digitalization, renewable energy consumption, and carbon emissions. In Central European nations, including the Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, and Slovakia, digitalization serves a mediating role in the relationship between renewable energy consumption and environmental quality. However, the role of financial development as a mediator between renewable energy consumption and environmental quality manifests varied impacts across different countries. This study investigated the impact of natural resources, urbanization, biological capacity, and economic growth (EG) on the ecological footprint (EFP) in Turkey between 1970 and 2018. The Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) method was used to investigate the short- and long-term effects. The findings indicate that EG and biological capacity increase the EFP in both the short and long term. In addition to these results, the long-term results show that the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis is valid for Turkey and that urbanization has a negative impact on the EFP. The Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) applied to determine the relationship between the variables reveals that, in the short term, unilateral causalities exist from EG to the EFP, from urbanization to economic growth, and from biological capacity to EG. The long-term causality results show a bidirectional causality relationship between the EFP, urbanization and biological capacity. In light of these findings, important policy recommendations are provided for policymakers in Turkey to achieve sustainable growth and improve environmental quality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Understanding and examining energy markets correctly is crucial for stakeholders to attain maximum benefit and avoid risks. As a matter of fact, the volatility that occurred in energy markets and recent crises had major impacts on national economies. Dynamic connectedness relationships (DCRs) can make quite powerful predictions for both low-frequency data and limited time-series data. The objective of this study is to explicate the dynamic connectedness relationships among the BIST sustainability index, BIST 100 index, S&P Global Clean Energy index (S&P GCEI), and S&P GSCI carbon emission allowances (EUA). The daily data obtained over the period 11 April 2014–11 November 2022 were used for the research study. The DCRs among the variables used in the study were investigated by employing the time-varying parameter vector autoregressive (TVP-VAR) model. As a result of the study, the volatility from carbon emission allowances was determined to spill over to S&P GCEI, BIST 100, and BIST sustainability indexes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, significant reductions were detected in the volatility spillover (VS) from carbon emission allowances to S&P GCEI, BIST 100, and BIST sustainability indexes. Moreover, it was revealed that a weak VS existed from S&P GCEI to BIST sustainability and BIST 100 indexes. The findings reveal the importance of policymakers taking some incentive measures in EUA prices and also its role in portfolio diversification. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
