Knowing the spatial structure of traditional villages is required to promote and preserve these villages. These traditional villages are an essential part of China's farming legacy and hold substantial historical and cultural significance. Therefore, this article analyzed 30 nationally recognized traditional villages in Liaoning Province, selected from the 6819 traditional villages in the province, as samples. These were divided into three types based on elevation: plain-type (below 200 m above sea level), hilly-type (200–500 m), and mountain-type (above 500 m) villages. Two villages of each type were selected for a total of six villages as the study objects; for these, quantitative comparative research on the spatial structure of these villages was carried out. The results of the study show that: (1) plain-type traditional villages are little affected by the terrain, the overall presentation of the surface space, the village traffic is well developed, able to form a commercial street as the core of the road interruptions in the head of the road more; (2) hilly-type traditional villages are influenced by mountains and water systems, forming a linear space with main roads as the core and crossroads, their core areas are more remote and lack space for public activities, and the villages rely on religious venues or the former residences of celebrities to attract tourists; (3) mountain-type villages are greatly influenced by the mountains, making it difficult to form a commercial area, the distribution of each natural town is relatively scattered and forms a point-like space, each point is developed with public space as the core, and there is a lack of characteristics within the village. The above quantitative characteristics are compared and three targeted conservation strategies for national-level traditional villages in Liaoning are proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The transition analysis and type division of landscape heritage are the effective management methods to achieve the overall conservation and targeted utilization of modern urban parks. In this study, Shenyang Zhongshan Park, the first modern urban park in Shenyang, was taken as the research object to explore the historical and cultural value of modern urban parks in Northeast China. The current status and transition characteristics of landscape heritage were analyzed, and the landscape heritage types were divided by their conservation and utilization evaluations. A total of 44 landscape heritages existed in Shenyang Zhongshan Park, including three categories, i.e., 15 historic sites, 20 cultural comprehensive sites, and 9 natural sites. Based on the IPA model, the landscape heritage was further divided into three subcategories, i.e., already designated for conservation (ADC), should be designated for conservation (SDC), and should be restricted scale (SRS). ADC was composed of one historic (Chiyoda water tower), two cultural comprehensive (water sources), and three natural (ancient trees) landscape heritages. SDC was a landscape heritage with long construction age, high importance, poor conservation, and high utilization, which can represent the cultural characteristics of the park and the need to speed up the improvement of its protection system. SRS weakened the cultural characteristics of the park. Its construction intensity should be reduced to highlight the core themes of the park (i.e., historical and cultural themes). In the future, modern urban parks should be conserved and utilized based on identifying different landscape heritage types. Oxygen lances are key equipment for copper converters. The effect of the lance arrangement on the mixing of a gas–slag two–phase is discussed using numerical simulation and experimental verification with a water model, and the stirring characteristics enhanced by variable–velocity blowing are explored. The results showed that the single–row lance arrangement (SA) increased the average velocity in the slag phase by 17.93% and reduced the disturbance to the metal phase by 27.78% compared to the double–row lance arrangement (DA). Compared to the constant–velocity blowing system (CSB), the sine–wave blowing system (SWB) and rectangular–wave blowing system (RWB) increased the average velocity in the slag phase by 24.03% and 13.96%, respectively, and reduced the proportion of the low–velocity area by more than 46.2%. The velocity imbalance in the SA local area enhances the mixing of the gas–slag two–phase. The variable–speed blowing improves the mass transfer and mixing effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aiming at the melt splashing behavior in the smelting process of an oxygen-enriched side-blowing furnace, the volume of fluid model and the realizable k − ε turbulence model are coupled and simulated. The effects of different operating parameters (injection velocity, immersion depth, liquid level) on splash height are explored, and the simulation results are verified by water model experiments. The results show that the bubbles with residual kinetic energy escape to the slag surface and cause slag splashing. The slag splashing height gradually increases with the increase in injection velocity, and the time-averaged splashing height reaches 1.01 m when the injection speed is 160 m/s. Increasing the immersion depth of the lance, and the slag splashing height gradually decreases. When the immersion depth is 0.12 m, the time-averaged splashing height is 0.85 m. Increasing the liquid level is beneficial to reduce the splash height, when the liquid level is 2.7 m, the splash height reduces to 0.77 m. With the increase in the liquid level, the slag splashing height gradually decreases, and the time-averaged splashing height is 0.77 m when the initial liquid level is 2.7 m. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study aimed to better understand the possibility of utilizing all-trans retinoic acids (ATRA) in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We found that ATRA significantly suppressed global translation and protein synthesis in AML cells. The efficacy of ATRA in treating AML required its translational regulatory functions, as shown by the fact that the decrease in the universal eukaryotic initiation factor 4E (eIF4E) was essential to maintain the induction of cell growth arrest and differentiation by ATRA. By establishing a specific translational landscape, we suggested that transcripts with simple 5′UTR gained a translational advantage in AML cells during ATRA stress. Based on that, the genes translationally regulated by ATRA were mainly enriched in phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/Akt (PI3K/AKT) signaling; we subsequently revealed that PI3K/AKT activation was required for ATRA to effectively induce AML cell differentiation. However, PI3K/AKT has been reported to promote the stemness of AML cells. As such, we further suggested that sequential treatment including ATRA and PI3K/AKT inhibitor induced robust apoptosis, extremely inhibited the clonality of AML cells, and suppressed the FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3-internal tandem duplication (FLT3-ITD)-driven transformation of CD34+ hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells. Future clinical studies are warranted to further support the clinical application of the sequential strategy for the effective treatment of AML. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
