Rural gentrification is a significant issue in rural sustainable development that can impact many aspects of rural areas, such as the transformation of the rural class structure and changes in the rural housing structure. This study is based on the concept of rural gentrification and uses Yuanshan Township in Yilan, Taiwan, to examine whether the study area faces rural gentrification. This research conducts questionnaire surveys and social network analysis to understand the characteristics and implications of rural gentrification. The results identify age, education, and residence duration as differentiating factors between original residents and gentrifiers. Additionally, factors influencing rural gentrification encompass distinct living environments, natural landscapes, diversity, historical aspects, prices, and recreational facilities, contributing to the choice of purchasing farmhouses in Yuanshan Township. Fibromyalgia is a chronic illness usually accompanied by long-lasting, general pain throughout the body, often accompanied by anxiety, depression, fatigue, and sleep disruption. Meanwhile, doctors and scientists have not entirely discovered detailed mechanisms; patients always have an exaggerated sensation to pervasive pain without satisfied medical service. Given the lack of knowledge on its underlying mechanism, current treatments aim to provide pain and/or symptom relief. The present study aimed to clarify the role of cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) signaling in a mouse fibromyalgia pain model. To develop the mouse fibromyalgia model, mice were subjected to intermittent cold stress (ICS). Our results indicated that mechanical (2.09 ± 0.09 g) and thermal hyperalgesia (4.77 ± 0.29 s), which were evaluated by von Frey and Hargraves' tests, were induced by ICS, suggesting successful modeling. The hurting replies were then provoked by electroacupuncture (EA) but not for sham EA mice. Further, in a Western blot analysis, we found significantly decreased CB1 protein levels in the thalamus, somatosensory cortex, and anterior cingulate cortex. In addition, the levels of pain-related protein kinases and transcription factor were increased. Treatment with EA reliably increased CB1 expression in various brain regions sequentially alleviated by nociceptive mediators. Furthermore, the administration of a CB1 agonist significantly attenuated fibromyalgia pain, reversed EA analgesia by the CB1 antagonist, and further reversed the chemogenetic inhibition of SSC. Background/Objectives: Positive symptoms, negative symptoms, and emotional disturbances are core features of schizophrenia. Although horticultural therapy (HT) has shown promise as an adjunctive treatment, evidence supporting its effectiveness remains limited. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the impact of HT on total symptoms, positive symptoms, negative symptoms, and emotional disturbances in individuals with schizophrenia. Methods: We conducted a search for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published up to March 2024 across multiple databases, including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, CEPS, CNKI, Wanfang, and Yiigle. A random-effects model was employed to calculate the standardized mean difference (SMD). Results: A total of 35 studies enrolling 2899 participants were included. Our results indicated that, in the short term (≦3 months), HT has moderate to large effect sizes on total symptoms (SMD = 0.690, 95% CI 0.463 to 0.916), positive symptoms (SMD = 0.695, 95% CI 0.038 to 1.351), negative symptoms (SMD = 0.681, 95% CI 0.395 to 0.967), depression (SMD = 0.646, 95% CI 0.334 to 0.959), and anxiety (SMD = 0.627, 95% CI 0.364 to 0.890), with more pronounced benefits for anxiety symptoms in patients with a shorter duration of illness. In the long term (>3 months), HT shows large effect sizes for total symptoms (SMD = 1.393, 95% CI 0.858 to 1.928), negative symptoms (SMD = 1.389, 95% CI 0.935 to 1.842), anxiety (SMD = 1.541, 95% CI 1.042 to 2.040), and moderate to large effect sizes for positive symptoms (SMD = 0.667, 95% CI 0.077 to 1.258) and depression (SMD = 0.707, 95% CI 0.198 to 1.217). Additionally, longer weekly treatment durations are associated with better outcomes for total symptoms and negative symptoms. Schizophrenia patients with more severe initial symptoms may be potential responders to HT. Conclusions: These findings support the efficacy of HT in improving symptoms and emotional well-being in schizophrenia patients. Photon-number-resolving detectors are in high demand for applications in photonic quantum technology. In this study, we demonstrate the photon-number-resolving capabilities of our self-developed, highly efficient InGaAs/InAlAs single-photon avalanche diode. We achieved intrinsic photon number resolving by harnessing the high multiplication gain generated through an avalanche process in the InAlAs multiplication layer. With a maximum single-photon detection efficiency of 46%, we were able to distinguish photon number states up to 5 from the signal probability distribution without encountering avalanche saturation that could otherwise limit the capability of photon number resolving. We reasonably anticipate that the photon-number-resolving accuracy and capability can be further improved once the noise issue in such InGaAs/InAlAs SPADs is carefully managed. Background: Volatile organic compounds (VOC) are major indoor air pollutants. Previous studies reported an association between VOC exposure and allergic diseases. Here, we aimed to explore the relationship between VOC exposure and atopic dermatitis (AD) in adults. Methods: We prospectively enrolled 31 adult AD patients and 11 healthy subjects as controls. Urine metabolite levels of VOCs, including 1.3-butadiene, acrylamide, benzene, toluene, and xylene, were all determined with liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry. The relationship between AD and log-transformed urine levels of VOC metabolites were examined using a multivariate linear regression model adjusted for age and sex. We also treated mouse bone marrow-derived cells (BMMCs) with 1,3-butadiene and toluene and measured the release of β-hexosaminidase. Results: Our results demonstrated that creatinine-corrected urine levels of N-Acetyl-S- (3,4-dihydroxybutyl)-L-cysteine (DHBMA), N-Acetyl-S-(2-carbamoyl-2-hydroxyethyl)-L-cysteine (GAMA), and N-Acetyl-S-(benzyl)-L-cysteine (BMA) were all elevated in AD patients compared with controls. In a multivariate linear regression model, creatinine-corrected urine levels of BMA (a toluene metabolite) and DHBMA (a 1,3-butadiene metabolite) appeared elevated in AD patients, although statistical significance was not reached after correction for multiple comparisons. In addition, 1,3-butadiene and toluene could stimulate BMMCs to degranulate as much as compound 48/80. Schizophrenia is characterized by psychiatric symptoms and emotional issues. While pharmacological treatments have limitations, non-pharmacological interventions are essential. Art therapy has the potential to enhance emotional expression, communication, and health; however, the effectiveness of visual art therapy remains uncertain. This systematic review and meta-analysis synthesizes the findings of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of visual art therapy on positive symptoms, negative symptoms, and emotions in patients with schizophrenia. This study reviews RCTs published prior to February, 2024. The PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, CEPS, CNKI, Wanfang, and Yiigle databases were searched, and three independent researchers screened the studies. In this meta-analysis, standardized mean difference (SMD) was employed as a measure to calculate effect sizes for continuous variables using a random effects model, while the meta-regression and subgroup analyses were performed with patient and intervention characteristics. A total of 31 studies revealed visual art therapy had a significant small-to-moderate effect on positive symptoms (SMD = 0.407, 95% CI 0.233 to 0.581), a moderate effect on negative symptoms (SMD = 0.697, 95% CI 0.514 to 0.880), a moderate effect on depression (SMD = 0.610, 95% CI 0.398 to 0.821), and a large effect on anxiety (SMD = 0.909, 95% CI 0.386 to 1.433). The subgroup analysis revealed painting and handcrafts had significant effects on positive symptoms, negative symptoms, and emotions. Combined Chinese calligraphy and painting had significant effects on positive symptoms, depression, and anxiety. Better improvement was noted among the Asian population, and a longer weekly treatment duration was associated with better improvement in positive symptoms. Female participants tended to have more improvements in negative symptoms and anxiety through visual art therapy. The results indicate that visual art therapy has positive effects on the psychiatric symptoms and emotions of individuals with schizophrenia. Bladder cancer (BC) is a malignant tumor of the urinary system with high mortality and recurrence rates. Proteasome subunit type 4 (PSMB4) is highly expressed and has been identified as having oncogenic properties in a variety of cancer types. This study aimed to explore the effect of PSMB4 knockdown on the survival, migration, and angiogenesis of human bladder cancer cells with different degrees of malignancy. We analyzed the effects of PSMB4 knockdown in bladder cancer cells and endothelial cells in the tumor microenvironment. PSMB4 was highly expressed in patients with low- and high-grade urothelial carcinoma. Inhibition of PSMB4 reduced protein expression of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) and myosin light chain (MLC), leading to reduced migration. Furthermore, the suppression of PSMB4 decreased the levels of vascular endothelial factor B (VEGF-B), resulting in lower angiogenic abilities in human bladder cancer cells. PSMB4 inhibition affected the migratory ability of HUVECs and reduced VEGFR2 expression, consequently downregulating angiogenesis. In the metastatic animal model, PSMB4 knockdown reduced the relative volumes of lung tumors. Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterized, at least in part, by autoimmunity through amplified T helper 1 and 17 (Th1 and Th17) immune responses. The loss of immune tolerance controlled by programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) may contribute to this. Objectives: We studied the tolerogenic role of PD-L1+ dendritic cells (DCs) and their subtypes in relation to specific T cell immunity and the clinical phenotypes of COPD. Methods: We used flow cytometry to analyze PD-L1 expression by the DCs and their subtypes in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from normal participants and those with COPD. T cell proliferation and the signature cytokines of T cell subtypes stimulated with elastin as autoantigens were measured using flow cytometry and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), respectively. Measurement and main results: A total of 83 participants were enrolled (normal, n = 29; COPD, n = 54). A reduced PD-L1+ conventional dendritic cell 1 (cDC1) ratio in the PBMCs of the patients with COPD was shown (13.7 ± 13.7%, p = 0.03). The decrease in the PD-L1+ cDC1 ratio was associated with a rapid decline in COPD (p = 0.02) and correlated with the CD4+ T cells (r = −0.33, p = 0.02). This is supported by the NCBI GEO database accession number GSE56766, the researchers of which found that the gene expressions of PD-L1 and CD4, but not CD8 were negatively correlated from PBMC in COPD patients (r = −0.43, p = 0.002). Functionally, the PD-L1 blockade enhanced CD4+ T cell proliferation stimulated by CD3/elastin (31.2 ± 22.3%, p = 0.04) and interleukin (IL)-17A production stimulated by both CD3 (156.3 ± 54.7, p = 0.03) and CD3/elastin (148 ± 64.9, p = 0.03) from the normal PBMCs. The PD-L1 blockade failed to increase IL-17A production in the cDC1-depleted PBMCs. By contrast, there was no significant change in interferon (IFN)-γ, IL-4, or IL-10 after the PD-L1 blockade. Again, these findings were supported by the NCBI GEO database accession number GSE56766, the researchers of which found that only the expression of RORC, a master transcription factor driving the Th17 cells, was significantly negatively correlated to PD-L1 (r = −0.33, p = 0.02). Conclusions: Circulating PD-L1+ cDC1 was reduced in the patients with COPD, and the tolerogenic role was suppressed with susceptibility to self-antigens and linked to rapid decline caused by Th17-skewed chronic inflammation. Previous studies showed that NaIO3 can induce oxidative stress-mediated retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) damage to simulate age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Lemon peel is rich in antioxidants and components that can penetrate the blood–retinal barrier, but their role in retinal oxidative damage remains unexplored. Here, we explore the protection of lemon peel ultrasonic-assisted water extract (LUWE), containing large amounts of flavonoids and polyphenols, against NaIO3-induced retinal degeneration. We initially demonstrated that LUWE, orally administered, prevented retinal distortion and thinning on the inner and outer nuclei layers, downregulating cleaved caspase-3 protein expression in RPE cells in NaIO3-induced mice. The effect of LUWE was achieved through the suppression of apoptosis and the associated proteins, such as cleaved PARP and cleaved caspase-3, as suggested by NaIO3-induced ARPE-19 cell models. This is because LUWE reduced reactive oxygen species-mediated mitochondrial fission via regulating p-Drp-1 and Fis1 expression. We further confirmed that LUWE suppresses the expression of p-MEK-1/2 and p-ERK-1/2 in NaIO3-induced ARPE-19 cells, thereby providing the protection described above, which was confirmed using PD98059 and U0126. These results indicated that LUWE prevents mitochondrial oxidative stress-mediated RPE damage via the MEK/ERK pathway. Simple Summary: The study explores a promising treatment avenue for acute myeloid leukemia (AML), emphasizing the drug combination venetoclax and azacitidine (VEN plus AZA) to improve patient survival and enable stem cell transplantation in those unsuitable for intensive chemotherapy. Comparative analysis with conventional treatment shows comparable survival rates, influenced by genetic factors. In conclusion, for older AML patients unable to endure intensive chemotherapy, the VEN plus AZA regimen emerges as a viable, less taxing option, offering the potential for curative stem cell transplantation. Background: Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is rarely recommended for unfit patients with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Patient survival can improve with venetoclax plus azacitidine (VEN plus AZA). However, the long-term outcome of this treatment strategy is still unsatisfactory. The high response and low treatment toxicity rates of patients receiving VEN plus AZA can provide an opportunity for HSCT among unfit patients. Nevertheless, the outcomes and complications of VEN plus AZA, followed by HSCT, remain unclear. Methods: This single-center retrospective study aimed to compare patients with newly diagnosed AML receiving VEN plus AZA as induction therapy (n = 27) to those receiving the conventional I3A7 regimen as induction therapy (n = 34). Result: The 1-year overall survival, relapse, and non-relapse mortality rates in the two groups were similar. The cytogenetic risks and the hematopoietic cell transplantation-specific comorbidity index are the most significant predictive factors of overall survival. Conclusion: In older patients unfit for intensive chemotherapy, a low-intensity regimen with VEN plus AZA is a suitable bridge therapy. Conventional deep neural networks face challenges in handling the increasing amount of information in real-world scenarios where it is impractical to gather all the training data at once. Incremental learning, also known as continual learning, provides a solution for lightweight and sustainable learning with neural networks. However, incremental learning encounters issues such as "catastrophic forgetting" and the "stability–plasticity dilemma". To address these challenges, this study proposes a two-stage training method. In the first stage, dual knowledge distillation is introduced, including feature map-based and response-based knowledge distillation. This approach prevents the model from excessively favoring new tasks during training, thus addressing catastrophic forgetting. In the second stage, an out-of-distribution dataset is incorporated to calculate the discrepancy loss between multiple classifiers. By maximizing the discrepancy loss and minimizing the cross-entropy loss, the model improves the classification accuracy of new tasks. The proposed method is evaluated using the CIFAR100 and RESISC45 benchmark datasets, comparing it to existing approaches. Experimental results demonstrate an overall accuracy improvement of 6.9% and a reduction of 5.1% in the forgetting rate after adding nine consecutive tasks. These findings indicate that the proposed method effectively mitigates catastrophic forgetting and provides a viable solution for image classification in natural and remote sensing images. The features or actuation behaviors of nature's creatures provide concepts for the development of biomimetic soft bioactuators/robots with stimuli-responsive capabilities, design convenience, and environmental adaptivity in various fields. Mimosa pudica is a mechanically responsive plant that can convert pressure to the motion of leaves. When the leaves receive pressure, the occurrence of asymmetric turgor in the extensor and flexor sides of the pulvinus from redistributing the water in the pulvinus causes the bending of the pulvinus. Inspired by the actuation of Mimosa pudica, designing soft bioactuators can convert external stimulations to driving forces for the actuation of constructs which has been receiving increased attention and has potential applications in many fields. 4D printing technology has emerged as a new strategy for creating versatile soft bioactuators/robots by integrating printing technologies with stimuli-responsive materials. In this study, we developed a hybrid ink by combining gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) polymers with iron oxide nanoparticles (IONs). This hybrid ION-GelMA ink exhibits tunable rheology, controllable mechanical properties, magnetic-responsive behaviors, and printability by integrating the internal metal ion-polymeric chain interactions and photo-crosslinking chemistries. This design offers the inks a dual crosslink mechanism combining the advantages of photocrosslinking and ionic crosslinking to rapidly form the construct within 60 s of UV exposure time. In addition, the magnetic-responsive actuation of ION-GelMA constructs can be regulated by different ION concentrations (0–10%). Furthermore, we used the ION-GelMA inks to fabricate a Mimosa pudica-like soft bioactuator through a mold casting method and a direct-ink-writing (DIW) printing technology. Obviously, the pinnule leaf structure of printed constructs presents a continuous reversible shape transformation in an air phase without any liquid as a medium, which can mimic the motion characteristics of natural creatures. At the same time, compared to the model casting process, the DIW printed bioactuators show a more refined and biomimetic transformation shape that closely resembles the movement of the pinnule leaf of Mimosa pudica in response to stimulation. Overall, this study indicates the proof of concept and the potential prospect of magnetic-responsive ION-GelMA inks for the rapid prototyping of biomimetic soft bioactuators/robots with untethered non-contact magneto-actuations. Aging and obesity make humans more prone to cardiovascular and metabolic syndrome diseases, leading to several serious health conditions, including hyperlipidemia, high blood pressure, and sleep disturbance. This study aimed to explore the hypolipidemic effect of fermented citrus lemon juice using a hyperlipidemic hamster model. The sugar-free lemon juice's fermentation was optimized, and the characteristics of fresh and fermented lemon juice (FLJ) were evaluated and compared, which contained polyphenols and superoxide dismutase-like activity. Results showed that the absorption and utilization efficiency of FLJ was higher compared with the unfermented lemon juice. This study's prefermentation efficiency evaluation found that 21–30 days of bacterial DMS32004 and DMS32005 fermentation of fresh lemon juice provided the best fermentation benefits, and 21-day FLJ was applied as a remedy after the efficiency compassion. After six weeks of feeding, the total cholesterol (TC) and triglyceride (TG) values in the blood and liver of the FLJ treatment groups were decreased compared with the high-fat diet (HFD) group. In addition, the blood low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels were significantly reduced in the FLJ treatment groups compared with the HFD group. In contrast, the blood high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C) to LDL-C ratio increased considerably in the FLJ treatment groups, and the total to HDL ratio was significantly lower than in the HFD group. Compared with the HFD group, the TC content in the FLJ treatment groups' feces increased significantly. This study demonstrated that the sugar-free fermentation method and fermentation cycle management provided FLJ with the potential to regulate blood lipids. An enterprise must have good operating performance to operate continuously. A good company itself must have a good management team and a large enough market to operate. Taiwan is located in East Asia, and has neighboring countries, such as Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines. Taiwan's machine tools industry cannot be developed on a large scale due to the geographical environment and land area restrictions. Enterprises are constrained by the external environment, which includes economic cycles, raw materials supply, user demand, and other factors that influence their performance. This is the primary challenge currently faced by Taiwan's CNC industry. According to relevant research, companies can utilize various strategic models to identify operational shortcomings from the perspective of their employees, in order to enhance business performance. Therefore, Taiwan's machine tool industry has to be extended to a larger scale. In the international market, only by exporting products and, then, taking full advantage of higher-quality capabilities, can we create good corporate performance. Therefore, internationalization is an important factor for Taiwan's companies to improve their operating performance. This article uses Taiwan's machine tools industry to explore the impact of factors, such as international perspectives and competitive advantages, on operating performance; this study selects 62 companies as a sample, the period is 2022. and analyzes the data type using class regression. The empirical results show that in the initial stage of internationalization, internationalization and competitive advantages help companies improve their operating performance. The industrial environment has a positive regulatory effect on internationalization and enterprise performance. However, when the company reaches the stage of internationalization, its operating performance begins to decline. Therefore, companies must recognize their own operating capabilities and create a more favorable operating performance under internationalized strategies. The important factor is that only through continuous innovation can companies gain an advantage in their long-term operations. With the advent of the era of Industry 4.0, industry knowledge is highly intensive and competition within the international environment is fierce. Extracellular vesicles (EVs)—including apoptotic bodies, microvesicles, and exosomes—are released by almost all cell types and contain molecular footprints from their cell of origin, including lipids, proteins, metabolites, RNA, and DNA. They have been successfully isolated from blood, urine, semen, and other body fluids. In this review, we discuss the current understanding of the predictive value of EVs in prostate and renal cancer. We also describe the findings supporting the use of EVs from liquid biopsies in stratifying high-risk prostate/kidney cancer and advanced disease, such as castration-resistant (CRPC) and neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC) as well as metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Assays based on EVs isolated from urine and blood have the potential to serve as highly sensitive diagnostic studies as well as predictive measures of tumor recurrence in patients with prostate and renal cancers. The risk of fractures is higher in patients with autoimmune diseases, but it is not clear whether the use of immunosuppressive agents can further increase this risk. To investigate this issue, a retrospective study was conducted using data from Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database. Patients diagnosed with autoimmune diseases between 2000 and 2014, including psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and systemic lupus erythematosus, were included in the study. A control group of patients without autoimmune diseases was selected from the same database during the same period. Patients with autoimmune diseases were divided into two sub-cohorts based on their use of immunosuppressive agents. This study found the risk of fractures was 1.14 times higher in patients with autoimmune diseases than in those without. Moreover, we found that patients in the immunosuppressant sub-cohort had a higher risk of fractures compared to those in the non-immunosuppressant sub-cohort. The adjusted sub-distribution hazard ratio for shoulder fractures was 1.27 (95% CI = 1.01–1.58), for spine fractures was 1.43 (95% CI = 1.26–1.62), for wrist fractures was 0.95 (95% CI = 0.75–1.22), and for hip fractures was 1.67 (95% CI = 1.38–2.03). Patients with hematologic malignancies are reported to have a more severe course of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and be less responsive to vaccination. In this prospective study, we aimed to evaluate the serological responses to booster COVID-19 vaccines of Taiwanese patients with hematologic malignancies and identify potential predictive markers for effective neutralizing immunity. This study enrolled 68 patients with hematologic malignancies and 68 age- and gender-matched healthy control subjects who received three doses of vaccination against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) from 1 January 2022 to 31 October 2022. The SARS-CoV-2 immunoglobulin G (IgG) spike antibody level was measured with the Abbott assay. The effective neutralization capacity was defined as an anti-spike IgG level of ≥4160 AU/mL. Among the 68 patients with hematologic malignancies, 89.7% achieved seroconversion after booster doses. Seven patients with actively treated lymphoma remained seronegative and had the lowest humoral responses among patients with different types of hematologic malignancies. Despite comparable antibody titers between patients and healthy individuals, rates of effective neutralization (66.2% vs. 86.8%, respectively; p = 0.005) were significantly reduced in patients with hematologic malignancies. In a multivariate analysis, the independent predictors for effective neutralization were a lack of B-cell-targeted agents within six months of vaccination (odds ratio, 15.2; 95% confidence interval, 2.7–84.2; p = 0.002) and higher immunoglobulin levels (odds ratio, 4.4; 95% confidence interval, 1.3–14.7; p = 0.017). The study aimed to determine whether using body composition data acquired through bio-electrical impedance analysis (BIA) to adjust diet formulas could improve outcomes in septic patients. There were 132 septic patients in medical intensive care units enrolled in the prospective, randomized, double-blind, interventional study. For the intervention group, dietitians had access to BIA data for adjusting diet formulas according to body composition variables on days 1, 3, and 8. The patients were also stratified based on nutritional risk using the modified Nutrition Risk in Critically ill (mNUTRIC) score. Patients with intervention were more likely to achieve caloric and protein intake goals compared to the control group, especially in the low-risk group. The intervention did not significantly affect mortality, but the survival curves suggested potential benefits. The high-risk group had longer ICU stays and mechanical ventilation duration, which were mitigated by the intervention. Certain body composition variables (e.g., extracellular water to total body water ratio and phase angle) showed differences between high-risk and low-risk groups and may be related to patient outcomes. Non-invasive body composition assessment using BIA can help dietitians adjust diet formulas for critically ill septic patients. Background: Patients with sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (AKI) are at risk of kidney damage, potentially necessitating acute temporary or chronic dialysis. Our study aims to estimate the odds ratio (OR) of preceding sepsis among patients requiring their first dialysis. Methods: A nationwide population-based case-only study was conducted using claims records from the National Health insurance database of Taiwan. All patients over 20 years of age who underwent their first dialysis between 2004 and 2016 were included in the study. The six months prior to their first dialysis served as a self-control period. Results: The study included 147,201 patients who required acute temporary and 75,031 patients who required chronic dialysis. The odds ratios for patients needing acute temporary dialysis after 1, 2, 3, and 4 weeks of exposure periods were 15.8, 10.7, 9.2, and 8.4, respectively. The ORs for patients requiring chronic dialysis were 7.0, 4.1, 4.2, and 3.7, respectively. Conclusions: Our findings indicate that sepsis was substantially associated with an increased risk of renal failure. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the clinical use and side effects of fosfomycin in critically ill patients in Taiwan. Forty-two patients (mean age, 69.9 years; female, 69%) who received fosfomycin were included from a teaching hospital in Taiwan from January 2021 to December 2021. We analyzed the prescription pattern of intravenous fosfomycin and evaluated patient safety profiles, clinical successes, and microbiological cure rates. The main indication was urinary tract infections (35.6%), and the most frequently identified pathogen was Escherichia coli (18.2%). The overall clinical success was 83.4%, with one multidrug-resistant pathogen isolated from eight patients (19.0%). The average dose of fosfomycin given was 11.1 ± 5.2 g/day. The average duration of therapy was 8.7 ± 5.9 days, with a median duration of 8 days, where fosfomycin was mostly (83.3%) given in combination. Fosfomycin was given 12 hourly to a maximum number (47.6%) of cases. The incidence rates of adverse drug reactions (hypernatremia and hypokalemia) were 33.33% (14/42) and 28.57% (12/42), respectively. The overall survival rate was 73.8%. Intravenous fosfomycin may be an effective and safe antibiotic to use in combination with other drugs for empirical broad-spectrum or highly suspected multidrug-resistant infections in critically ill patients. Electrical energy and gas fuel are two types of energy needed that increase environmental pollution by burning fossil fuels in power plants to produce electrical energy and direct combustion of gas fuel. In this research, an attempt has been made to model the electrical energy network in the presence of renewable energy sources and gas production systems. The advantage of this model compared to other models of similar studies can be found in providing a mixed integer linear optimization model of distributed generation sources with gas fuel, energy storage systems, and gas power systems, along with electric vehicles in an integrated electricity and gas system. In addition to the energy consumption of buildings, an electric vehicle is also considered a base load, which is one of the limitations in optimizing the maximum charging of an electric vehicle. Among the important results of this research, it can be mentioned that the investment cost of USD 879,340 in the first scenario, in which 37,374 kW of electric energy was purchased from the network to supply the electric load, and 556,233 m3 was purchased from the gas network to supply the required gas. Total dissolved solid prediction is an important factor which can support the early warning of water pollution, especially in the areas exposed to a mixture of pollutants. In this study, a new fuzzy-based intelligent system was developed, due to the uncertainty of the TDS time series data, by integrating optimization algorithms. Monthly-timescale water quality parameters data from nearly four decades (1974–2016), recorded over two gaging stations in coastal Iran, were used for the analysis. For model implementation, the current research aims to model the TDS parameter in a river system by using relevant biochemical parameters such as Ca, Mg, Na, and HCO3. To produce more compact networks along with the model's generalization, a hybrid model which integrates a fuzzy-based intelligent system with the grasshopper optimization algorithm, NF-GMDH-GOA, is proposed for the prediction of the monthly TDS, and the prediction results are compared with five standalone and hybrid machine learning techniques. Results show that the proposed integrated NF-GMDH-GOA was able to provide an algorithmically informed simulation (NSE = 0.970 for Rig-Cheshmeh and NSE = 0.94 Soleyman Tangeh) of the dynamics of TDS records comparable to the artificial neural network, extreme learning machine, adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system, GMDH, and NF-GMDH-PSO models. According to the results of sensitivity analysis, Sodium in natural bodies of water with maximum value of error (RMSE = 56.4) had the highest influence on the TDS prediction for both stations, and Mg with RMSE = 43.251 stood second. The results of the Wilcoxon signed rank tests also indicated that the model's prediction means were different, as the p value calculated for the models was less than the standard significance level ( α = 0.05 ). Community-based screening for the hepatitis C virus (HCV) decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic. We developed a collaborative referral model between a primary clinic (Liouguei District Public Health Center, LDPHC) and a tertiary referral center to increase HCV screening and treatment uptake in a mountainous region of Taiwan. Once-in-a-lifetime hepatitis B and C screening services established by the Taiwan National Health Insurance were performed at LDPHC. Antibody-to-HCV (anti-HCV)-seropositive patients received scheduled referrals and took a shuttle bus to E-Da hospital for HCV RNA testing on their first visit. Direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) were prescribed for HCV-viremic patients on their second visit. From October 2020 to September 2022, of 3835 residents eligible for HCV screening in Liouguei District, 1879 (49%) received anti-HCV testing at LDPHC. The overall HCV screening coverage rate increased from 40% before referral to 69.4% after referral. Of the 79 anti-HCV-seropositive patients, 70 (88.6%) were successfully referred. Of the 38 HCV-viremic patients, 35 (92.1%) received DAA therapy, and 32 (91.4%) achieved sustained virological response. The collaborative referral model demonstrates a good model for HCV screening and access to care and treatment in a Taiwan mountainous region, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study, the thermodynamic performance of a combined gas turbine system equipped with a tubular solid oxide fuel cell and hydrogen fuel was investigated. All components of the system were separately modeled using thermodynamic relations. The simulation results showed that the efficiency of the combined system decreased with an increase in the turbine inlet temperature, whereas the power of the system increased. In addition, increasing the temperature entering the turbine and increasing the pressure ratio increased the production entropy and, as a result, increased the irreversibility of the system. The results of the research at the design point showed that 65% of the irreversibility of the system was caused by the combustion chamber and fuel cell (35% of the amount of entropy produced, the contribution of the combustion chamber, and 30% of the contribution of the solid oxide fuel cell) and 19% was due to the contribution of the heat exchanger. In addition, the combined system has an efficiency of 9.81%, while the system without a fuel cell has an efficiency of 33.4%, which shows the extraordinary performance of the combined system. Measuring the void fraction of different multiphase flows in various fields such as gas, oil, chemical, and petrochemical industries is very important. Various methods exist for this purpose. Among these methods, the capacitive sensor has been widely used. The thing that affects the performance of capacitance sensors is fluid properties. For instance, density, pressure, and temperature can cause vast errors in the measurement of the void fraction. A routine calibration, which is very grueling, is one approach to tackling this issue. In the present investigation, an artificial neural network (ANN) was modeled to measure the gas percentage of a two-phase flow regardless of the liquid phase type and changes, without having to recalibrate. For this goal, a new combined capacitance-based sensor was designed. This combined sensor was simulated with COMSOL Multiphysics software. Five different liquids were simulated: oil, gasoil, gasoline, crude oil, and water. To estimate the gas percentage of a homogeneous two-phase fluid with a distinct type of liquid, data obtained from COMSOL Multiphysics were used as input to train a multilayer perceptron network (MLP). The proposed neural network was modeled in MATLAB software. Simple Summary: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was the sixth most common cancer and the third leading cause of cancer death worldwide in 2020. Several studies have demonstrated that both chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are important risk factors for HCC. Treatment with antiglycemic agents in patients with various chronic liver diseases has been well studied, but there are relatively few related studies on dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4 inhibitors), especially in patients with coexisting T2DM and chronic HBV infection. This long-term retrospective population-based cohort study aimed to investigate whether the use of DPP-4 inhibitors decreases the risk of developing HCC in patients with coexisting T2DM and chronic HBV infection. Our study presents a preliminary confirmation that DPP-4 inhibitors have a beneficial effect in decreasing the risk of HCC in the treatment of T2DM patients with chronic HBV infection. Previous studies have indicated that HBV infection and T2DM are the factors that increase the risk of developing HCC. The experimental evidence has shown that antiglycemic agents may reduce the risk of HCC. However, the effect of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4 inhibitors) on the risk of HCC in T2DM patients with chronic HBV infection remains unclear. In this retrospective cohort study, we extracted patients with T2DM and chronic HBV infection from the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) in Taiwan. The cases were divided into DPP-4 inhibitors use and non-use groups, according to whether they received DPP-4 inhibitors treatment, and the risk of HCC was compared between the two groups. At the end of the follow-up, approximately 2.33% of DPP-4 inhibitors users had received an HCC diagnosis compared with 3.33% of non-DPP-4 inhibitors users (p < 0.0001). After multivariate adjustment, DPP-4 inhibitors users showed a significant reduction in HCC risk (adjusted hazard ratios (aHRs): 0.53; 95% confidence intervals (CIs): 0.44–0.65). What is presented in this research is an intelligent system for detecting the volume percentage of three-phase fluids passing through oil pipes. The structure of the detection system consists of an X-ray tube, a Pyrex galss pipe, and two sodium iodide detectors. A three-phase fluid of water, gas, and oil has been simulated inside the pipe in two flow regimes, annular and stratified. Different volume percentages from 10 to 80% are considered for each phase. After producing and emitting X-rays from the source and passing through the pipe containing a three-phase fluid, the intensity of photons is recorded by two detectors. The simulation is introduced by a Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP) code. After the implementation of all flow regimes in different volume percentages, the signals recorded by the detectors were recorded and labeled. Three frequency characteristics and five wavelet transform characteristics were extracted from the received signals of each detector, which were collected in a total of 16 characteristics from each test. The feature selection system based on the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm was applied to determine the best combination of extracted features. The result was the introduction of seven features as the best features to determine volume percentages. The introduced characteristics were considered as the input of a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) neural network, whose structure had seven input neurons (selected characteristics) and two output neurons (volume percentage of gas and water). The highest error obtained in determining volume percentages was equal to 0.13 as MSE, a low error compared with previous works. Tumour metabolomics and transcriptomics co-expression network as related to biological folate alteration and cancer malignancy remains unexplored in human non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC). To probe the diagnostic biomarkers, tumour and pair lung tissue samples (n = 56) from 97 NSCLC patients were profiled for ultra-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC/MS/MS)-analysed metabolomics, targeted transcriptionomics, and clinical folate traits. Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Analysis (WGCNA) was performed. Tumour lactate was identified as the top VIP marker to predict advance NSCLC (AUC = 0.765, Sig = 0.017, CI 0.58–0.95). Low folate (LF)-tumours vs. adjacent lungs displayed higher glycolytic index of lactate and glutamine-associated amino acids in enriched biological pathways of amino sugar and glutathione metabolism specific to advance NSCLCs. WGCNA classified the green module for hub serine-navigated glutamine metabolites inversely associated with tumour and RBC folate, which module metabolites co-expressed with a predominant up-regulation of LF-responsive metabolic genes in glucose transport (GLUT1), de no serine synthesis (PHGDH, PSPH, and PSAT1), folate cycle (SHMT1/2 and PCFR), and down-regulation in glutaminolysis (SLC1A5, SLC7A5, GLS, and GLUD1). The LF-responsive WGCNA markers predicted poor survival rates in lung cancer patients, which could aid in optimizing folate intervention for better prognosis of NSCLCs susceptible to folate malnutrition. Primary liver cancer is the fifth leading death of cancers in men, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) accounts for approximately 90% of all primary liver cancer cases. Sorafenib is a first-line drug for advanced-stage HCC patients. Sorafenib is a multi-target kinase inhibitor that blocks tumor cell proliferation and angiogenesis. Despite sorafenib treatment extending survival, some patients experience side effects, and sorafenib resistance does occur. 3-Hydroxymethyl glutaryl-CoA synthase 2 (HMGCS2) is the rate-limiting enzyme for ketogenesis, which synthesizes the ketone bodies, β-hydroxybutyrate (β-HB) and acetoacetate (AcAc). β-HB is the most abundant ketone body which is present in a 4:1 ratio compared to AcAc. Recently, ketone body treatment was found to have therapeutic effects against many cancers by causing metabolic alternations and cancer cell apoptosis. Our previous publication showed that HMGCS2 downregulation-mediated ketone body reduction promoted HCC clinicopathological progression through regulating c-Myc/cyclin D1 and caspase-dependent signaling. However, whether HMGCS2-regulated ketone body production alters the sensitivity of human HCC to sorafenib treatment remains unclear. In this study, we showed that HMGCS2 downregulation enhanced the proliferative ability and attenuated the cytotoxic effects of sorafenib by activating expressions of phosphorylated (p)-extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), p-P38, and p-AKT. In contrast, HMGCS2 overexpression decreased cell proliferation and enhanced the cytotoxic effects of sorafenib in HCC cells by inhibiting ERK activation. Furthermore, we showed that knockdown HMGCS2 exhibited the potential migratory ability, as well as decreasing zonula occludens protein (ZO)-1 and increasing c-Myc expression in both sorafenib-treated Huh7 and HepG2 cells. Although HMGCS2 overexpression did not alter the migratory effect, expressions of ZO-1, c-Myc, and N-cadherin decreased in sorafenib-treated HMGCS2-overexpressing HCC cells. Finally, we investigated whether ketone treatment influences sorafenib sensitivity. We showed that β-HB pretreatment decreased cell proliferation and enhanced antiproliferative effect of sorafenib in both Huh7 and HepG2 cells. Previous studies have shown that inhibiting PSMB8 expression in a glioblastoma reduces tumor progression and angiogenesis. This study shows that ONX-0914 inhibits glioblastoma cell proliferation and induces cell death through apoptosis and autophagy via p53. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether ONX-0914 has antitumor effects on human glioblastoma. The results indicated that ONX-0914 treatment inhibited survival in LN229, GBM8401, and U87MG glioblastoma cells. Cell cycle analysis showed that ONX-0914 treatment caused cell cycle arrest at the G1 phase and apoptosis in glioblastoma cells. The protein expression of BCL-2 was reduced and PARP was cleaved after ONX-0914 treatment. Furthermore, the levels of p53 and phosphorylated p53 were increased by ONX-0914 treatment in glioblastoma cells. ONX-0914 also induced autophagy in glioblastoma cells. Furthermore, the p53 inhibitor pifithrin attenuated apoptosis but enhanced autophagy caused by ONX-0914. In an orthotopic mouse model, TMZ plus ONX-0914 reduced tumor progression better than the control or TMZ alone. These data suggest that ONX-0914 is a novel therapeutic drug for glioblastoma. Bacterial cellulose (BC) is a microbial cellulose that presents various characteristics such as high mechanical strength, high water content, and great biocompatibility and biodegradability. Therefore, it provides great potential to be applied in functional packaging applications. In this study, formic acid (80 µg/mL) was found to promote BC production (a 23% increase in yield from 5.18 to 6.38 g/L) utilizing quorum sensing-related gene (ginI) induction within 5 days of cultivation. The enhancement in BC relied on the addition of FA in static culture, and there was no need to shift to another production system, thus providing an economical approach for industrial production. The characteristic analysis showed that the induced BC still retained its high water-holding capacity (98.4%) with no other structure, morphology, or property changes including chemical groups, crystallinity (80.4%), and thermostability (with Tmax at 360 °C). One of the main problems in oil fields is the deposition of scale inside oil pipelines, which causes problems such as the reduction of the internal diameter of oil pipes, the need for more energy to transport oil products, and the waste of energy. For this purpose, the use of an accurate and reliable system for determining the amount of scale inside the pipes has always been one of the needs of the oil industry. In this research, a non-invasive, accurate, and reliable system is presented, which works based on the attenuation of gamma rays. A dual-energy gamma source (241Am and 133Ba radioisotopes), a sodium iodide detector, and a steel pipe are used in the structure of the detection system. The configuration of the detection structure is such that the dual-energy source and the detector are directly opposite each other and on both sides of the steel pipe. In the steel pipe, a stratified flow regime consisting of gas, water, and oil in different volume percentages was simulated using Monte Carlo N Particle (MCNP) code. Seven scale thicknesses between 0 and 3 cm were simulated inside the tube. After the end of the simulation process, the received signals were labeled and transferred to the frequency domain usage of fast Fourier transform (FFT). Frequency domain signals were processed, and four frequency characteristics were extracted from them. The multilayer perceptron (MLP) neural network was used to obtain the relationship between the extracted frequency characteristics and the scale thickness. Frequency characteristics were defined as inputs and scale thickness in cm as the output of the neural network. Loss of energy, decrement of efficiency, and decrement of the effective diameter of the oil pipe are among the consequences of scale inside oil condensate transfer pipes. To prevent these incidents and their consequences and take timely action, it is important to detect the amount of scale. One of the accurate diagnosis methods is the use of non-invasive systems based on gamma-ray attenuation. The detection method proposed in this research consists of a detector that receives the radiation sent by the gamma source with dual energy (radioisotopes 241Am and 133Ba) after passing through the test pipe with inner scale (in different thicknesses). This structure was simulated by Monte Carlo N Particle code. The simulation performed in the test pipe included a three-phase flow consisting of water, gas, and oil in a stratified flow regime in different volume percentages. The signals received by the detector were processed by wavelet transform, which provided sufficient inputs to design the radial basis function (RBF) neural network. The scale thickness value deposited in the pipe can be predicted with an MSE of 0.02. Over time, oil pipes are scaled, which causes problems such as a reduction in the effective diameter of the oil pipe, an efficiency reduction, waste of energy, etc. Determining the exact value of the scale inside the pipe is very important in order to take timely action and to prevent the mentioned problems. One accurate detection methodology is the use of non-invasive systems based on gamma-ray attenuation. For this purpose, in this research, a scale thickness detection system consisting of a test pipe, a dual-energy gamma source (241Am and 133Ba radioisotopes), and two sodium iodide detectors were simulated using the Monte Carlo N Particle (MCNP) code. In the test pipe, three-phase flow consisting of water, gas, and oil was simulated in a stratified flow regime in volume percentages in the range from 10% to 80%. In addition, a scale with different thicknesses from 0 to 3 cm was placed inside the pipe, and gamma rays were irradiated onto the pipe; on the other side of the pipe, the photon intensity was recorded by the detectors. A total of 252 simulations were performed. From the signal received by the detectors, four characteristics were extracted, named the Photopeaks of 241Am and 133Ba for the first and second detectors. After training many different Multi-Layer Perceptron(MLP) neural networks with various architectures, it was found that a structure with two hidden layers could predict the connection between the input, extracted features, and the output, scale thickness, with a Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of less than 0.06. As time passes, scale builds up inside the pipelines that deliver the oil or gas product from the source to processing plants or storage tanks, reducing the inside diameter and ultimately wasting energy and reducing efficiency. A non-invasive system based on gamma-ray attenuation is one of the most accurate diagnostic methods to detect volumetric percentages in different conditions. A system including two NaI detectors and dual-energy gamma sources (241Am and 133Ba radioisotopes) is the recommended requirement for modeling a volume-percentage detection system using Monte Carlo N particle (MCNP) simulations. Oil, water, and gas form a three-phase flow in a stratified-flow regime in different volume percentages, which flows inside a scaled pipe with different thicknesses. Gamma rays are emitted from one side, and photons are absorbed from the other side of the pipe by two scintillator detectors, and finally, three features with the names of the count under Photopeaks 241Am and 133Ba of the first detector and the total count of the second detector were obtained. By designing two MLP neural networks with said inputs, the volumetric percentages can be predicted with an RMSE of less than 1.48 independent of scale thickness. Timely detection of the scale inside the pipes and taking action to solve it prevents problems such as a decrease in the efficiency of oil equipment, the wastage of energy, and the increase in repair costs. In this research, an accurate detection system of the scale thickness has been introduced, which its performance is based on the attenuation of gamma rays. The detection system consists of a dual-energy gamma source (241 Am and 133 Ba radioisotopes) and a sodium iodide detector. This detection system is placed on both sides of a test pipe, which is used to simulate a three-phase flow in the stratified regime. The three-phase flow includes water, gas, and oil, which have been investigated in different volume percentages. An asymmetrical scale inside the pipe, made of barium sulfate, is simulated in different thicknesses. After irradiating the gamma-ray to the test pipe and receiving the intensity of the photons by the detector, time characteristics with the names of sample SSR, sample mean, sample skewness, and sample kurtosis were extracted from the received signal, and they were introduced as the inputs of a GMDH neural network. The neural network was able to predict the scale thickness value with an RMSE of less than 0.2, which is a very low error compared to previous research. Inappropriate dietary intake during pregnancy is a key factor in low birth weight (LBW). This study compares LBW between healthy and processed dietary patterns by focusing on women of advanced maternal age. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 327 postpartum women in Taiwan. The participants were assigned to two groups according to their age (≥35 years, n = 151; and 20–34 years, n = 176). An online questionnaire asked women how often they consumed 27 food items during their pregnancy. The prevalence of LBW was higher in the processed dietary pattern (79.3%) than in the healthy pattern (13.78%, p < 0.001). LBW was positively correlated with advanced maternal age (≥35 ages), low pre-pregnancy weight (BMI less than 18.5 kg/m2), insufficient gestational weight gain (GWG), and processed dietary patterns. Older mothers were 5.8 times more likely to have infants with LBW (odds ratio = 5.8; 95% confidence interval 2.0–16.6). A processed dietary pattern was 9.4 times more likely to result in LBW. Insufficient GWG was significantly positively associated with LBW (OR = 4.0; 95%CI 1.4–11.6). Maternal diet during pregnancy is an important modifiable factor for LBW. Although hepatitis C virus (HCV) prevails in patients receiving methadone maintenance treatment (MMT), most do not receive anti-HCV therapy. This single-center observational study aimed to achieve HCV micro-elimination at an MMT center during the COVID-19 pandemic using a collaborative referral model, which comprised a referral-for-diagnosis stage (January 2020 to August 2020) and an on-site-diagnosis stage (September 2020 to January 2021). A multidisciplinary team was established and all MMT center patients were enrolled. HCV micro-elimination was defined as >90% of HCV-infected patients diagnosed and >80% of HCV-viremic patients treated. A total of 305 MMT patients, including 275 (90.2%) anti-HCV seropositive patients, were enrolled. Among 189 HCV-infected patients needing referral, the accumulative percentage receiving HCV RNA testing increased from 93 (49.2%) at referral-for-diagnosis stage to 168 (88.9%) at on-site-diagnosis stage. Among 138 HCV-viremic patients, the accumulative percentage receiving direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy increased from 77 (55.8%) at referral-for-diagnosis stage to 129 (93.5%) at on-site-diagnosis stage. We achieved an HCV RNA testing rate of 92.4% (254/275), an HCV treatment rate of 95.8% (203/212) and a sustained virological response rate of 94.1% (191/203). Simple Summary: In this study, the gene expression profile of a honey bee microsporidium, Nosemaceranae, was investigated at 5, 10, and 20 days post-infection. Based on transcriptome data, the common DEGs and stage-specific genes were identified and validated. Our data reveal that the gene expression of N. ceranae during infection is highly related to the mechanisms of gene transcription, protein synthesis, and structural proteins. This information could be a reference for the control of nosemosis at the genetic level in apiculture. Nosema ceranae is one of the fungal parasites of Apis mellifera. It causes physical and behavioral effects in honey bees. However, only a few studies have reported on gene expression profiling during A. mellifera infection. In this study, the transcriptome profile of mature spores at each time point of infection (5, 10, and 20 days post-infection, d.p.i.) were investigated. Based on the transcriptome and expression profile analysis, a total of 878, 952, and 981 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) (fold change ≥ 2 or ≤ −2) were identified in N. ceranae spores (NcSp) at 5 d.p.i., 10 d.p.i., and 20 d.p.i., respectively. Moreover, 70 upregulated genes and 340 downregulated genes among common DEGs (so-called common DEGs) and 166 stage-specific genes at each stage of infection were identified. The Gene Ontology (GO) analysis indicated that the DEGs and corresponding common DEGs are involved in the functions of cytosol (GO:0005829), cytoplasm (GO:0005737), and ATP binding (GO:0005524). Furthermore, the pathway analysis found that the DEGs and common DEGs are involved in metabolism, environmental information processing, and organismal systems. Four upregulated common DEGs with higher fold-change values, highly associated with spore proteins and transcription factors, were selected for validation. In addition, the stage-specific genes are highly involved in the mechanism of pre-mRNA splicing according to GO enrichment analysis; thus, three of them showed high expression at each d.p.i. and were also subjected to validation. The relative gene expression levels showed a similar tendency as the transcriptome predictions at different d.p.i., revealing that the gene expression of N. ceranae during infection may be related to the mechanism of gene transcription, protein synthesis, and structural proteins. The Taiwan Lantern Festival (TLF) is a specific cultural tradition that has evolved over many years. It is a large-scale festival as determined by the large number of installations and visitors—that is, 20 million visitors in a period of two weeks. The aim of this study is to combine the TLF-related physical dynamics of land use and lantern installations with the augmented dynamics of lantern installations at reallocated sites. We compared five cities in Taiwan with regard to land alterations between 2016 and 2020. The TLF land assessment identified 34 cross-referred types of land use between aerial imagery and GIS surveys in a small area of 2 km × 2 km, in total. The change in land use by year varied between 2% and 499%, up to three times. The complexity of physical dynamics was re-experienced by a more sustainable dynamic of augmented reality (AR) using a scan-to-AR approach to reactivate the installations and fabrics at redeployed sites. The installations of the 2016 TLF were applied. We found that the land use, 3D scan, and AR reshaped the spatio-temporal festivalscape by both types of dynamics. The simulation demonstrated that the fabric retrieved by heterogeneous technologies had equal importance in assessing the host city and in enabling a reactivation for more diversified scales and characters, even with a smartphone AR. Previous studies have demonstrated that Siegesbeckia orientalis (SO) has a suppressive effect on the growth and migration of endometrial and cervical cancer cells. The present study examined the effect of SO ethanolic extract (SOE) on the proliferation and migration of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and examined the effects of SOE on non-cancerous cells using HaCaT keratinocytes as a model. The SOE effectively inhibited the proliferation of Hepa1-6 (IC50 = 282.4 μg/mL) and HepG2 (IC50 = 344.3 μg/mL) hepatoma cells, whereas it has less cytotoxic effect on HaCaT cells (IC50 = 892.4 μg/mL). The SOE treatment increased the generation of ROS in HCC, but decreased the expression of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase and catalase. In contrast, it reduced intracellular ROS formation and upregulated the expression of the related antioxidant enzymes in the H2O2-stimulated HaCaT cells. The SOE intervention also down-regulated the anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 and the migration-related proteins including matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and β-catenin in the HCC, suggesting that SOE could promote HCC apoptosis and inhibit HCC migration. On the contrary, it reduced apoptosis and promoted the migration of the keratinocytes. Additionally, the SOE treatment significantly up-regulated the pro-inflammatory cytokines, including TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β, in Hepa1-6 and HepG2 cells. Conversely, it significantly decreased the expression of these cytokines in the H2O2-induced HaCaT cells. These findings indicated that SOE treatment can delay the progression of HCC by increasing oxidative stress, promoting inflammatory response, inducing cancer cell apoptosis and inhibiting their migration. Hyperuricemia is a disease caused by a high level of uric acid in the blood. It is an important factor for gout and may be linked to renal and hepatic failure. The objective of this study was to investigate the hypouricemic effects of submerged culture of Ganoderma lucidum. The lyophilized powder of mycelium (GM) and extracellular polysaccharides (GP) of the G. lucidum submerged culture were prepared. The contents of hypouricemic components, including phenolics and flavonoids, in GM (34.33 ± 0.41 mg/g and 0.32 ± 0.01 mg/g) were higher than that in GP (20.52 ± 1.49 mg/g and not detected). The hypouricemic effect of GM and GP was evaluated in potassium oxonate (PO)-injected rats. The average food intake (23.3 ± 1.2 g/day) and body weight (355.7 ± 28.0 g) were decreased, and the serum level of uric acid (5.56 ± 0.41 mg/dL) was increased in PO-injected rats. However, allopurinol (10 mg/kg b.w.) or GM treatment (200 or 400 mg/kg b.w) improved food intake (26.3 ± 2.7 g/day) and reduced the level of uric acid (4.45 ± 0.46 mg/dL). In parallel, the activity of hepatic xanthine oxidase (XOD) was downregulated from 841.29 ± 299.58 μU/mg protein to 540.80 ± 199.20 μU/mg protein. Moreover, GM and GP (200 or 400 mg/kg b.w) alleviated the level of blood urea nitrogen (BUN) from 30.49 ± 4.71 to 21.16 ± 4.25 mg/dL. GP treatment also diminished the level of alanine transaminase (ALT) from 52.63 ± 18.82 to 27.35 ±6.82 U/L. These results clearly demonstrated the hypouricemic effect of submerged G. lucidum culture and their potential against hyperuricemia-associated renal and hepatic damage. Simple Summary: Our previous works showed that pleural fluid from lung cancer significantly induced endothelial proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis. Since endothelial metabolism was a key step in angiogenesis, we investigated the role of bile acid signaling and FXR expression in pleural angiogenesis. Elevated bile acid levels in lung-cancer-associated pleural fluid (LCPF) were characterized with positive FXR staining in pleural microvessels. We then confirmed the inhibitory effect of an FXR antagonist on LCPF-induced endothelial migration and angiogenesis. Due to the elevated protein expression in the cholesterol metabolism caused by LCPF, lipid-lowering agents with the efficacy needed to counteract LCPF-regulated angiogenesis were evaluated. Statin showed the potent efficacy needed to suppress LCPF-induced endothelial proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis through FXR inhibition. Following that, Kaplan–Meier analysis showed the survival benefit of statin exposure in patients with lung adenocarcinoma with LCPF. Our results suggest that targeting endothelial FXR signaling with statin treatment could ameliorate the angiogenesis activity of LCPF. Lung cancer-related pleural fluid (LCPF) presents as a common complication with limited treatment. Beyond its function in lipid digestion, bile acid was identified as a potent carcinogen to stimulate tumor proliferation. Previous research indicated a correlation between serum bile acid levels and the risk of developing several gastrointestinal cancers. Our study identified elevated bile acid levels in LCPF and increased farnesoid X receptor (FXR) expression as bile acid nuclear receptors in pleural microvessels of lung adenocarcinoma. Additionally, LCPF stimulated the expression of proteins involved in bile acid synthesis and cholesterol metabolism in HUVECs including CYP7A1, StAR, HMGCR, and SREBP2. LCPF-induced endothelial motility and angiogenesis were counteracted by using β-muricholic acid as an FXR antagonist. Moreover, we investigated the efficacy of cholesterol-lowering medications, such as cholestyramine, fenofibrate, and atorvastatin, in regulating LCPF-regulated angiogenesis. Along with suppressing endothelial proliferation and angiogenesis, atorvastatin treatment reversed cholesterol accumulation and endothelial junction disruption caused by LCPF. Statin treatment inhibited LCPF-induced endothelial FXR expression as well as the downstream proteins RXR and SHP. Based on the positive findings of suppressing endothelial angiogenesis, our group further incorporated the effect of statin on clinical patients complicated with LCPF. A Kaplan–Meier analysis revealed the clinical benefit of statin exposure in patients with lung adenocarcinoma with LCPF. Keloids are a fibrotic skin disorder caused by abnormal wound healing and featuring the activation and expansion of fibroblasts beyond the original wound margin. Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) has been found to mediate the biological functions of keloid fibroblasts (KFs). Therefore, we aimed to demonstrate whether ASC-J9, an inhibitor of STAT3 phosphorylation, can suppress the activation of KFs. Western blotting results showed that ASC-J9 inhibited the levels of COL1A1 and FN1 proteins, which were upregulated in KFs, by decreasing the expression of pSTAT3 and STAT3. RNA sequencing and in vitro studies further demonstrated that ASC-J9 treatment of KFs reduced cell division, inflammation, and ROS generation, as well as extracellular matrix (ECM) synthesis. ELISA assays verified that ASC-J9 treatment significantly mitigated IL-6 protein secretion in KFs. Transmission electron microscopy images revealed that ASC-J9 induced the formation of multilamellar bodies in KFs, which is associated with autophagy-related signaling. These results suggested that inhibiting a vicious cycle of the ROS/STAT3/IL-6 axis by ASC-J9 may represent a potential therapeutic approach to suppress cell proliferation and ECM production in KFs. With the advancement of human science and technology, the continuous increase in the construction and functional improvement of campus buildings and school teaching infrastructure cannot avoid adverse impacts on the overall environment. Therefore, sustainability assessments of buildings are indispensable for the sustainable development of the surrounding region. The main goal of the sustainable design of campus buildings is to reduce the depletion of key resources, such as water and energy, as well as to lower carbon emissions; this, in turn, creates a safe and effective campus environment. Comprehensive assessments of campus buildings have become critical to achieving national and regional sustainability. Therefore, this study compiles a set of building construction indicators suitable for a framework for high school campus architecture and ecological development in Taiwan, conforms these indicators to climatic characteristics, and considers an evaluation model for sustainable building concepts. This research uses the Fuzzy Delphi Method (FDM) and the Fuzzy Analysis Hierarchical Procedure Method (FAHP) to gather data using expert questionnaires. We examine three relevant factors: (1) the main factor, campus space architecture, is the most important measure of sustainable buildings; (2) the second factor is the campus ecological environment; (3) the third measure of the sustainable campus buildings is a healthy environment. The top 20 elements of the sustainable campus building evaluation index were obtained through FAHP analysis, with an overall cumulative weight value of 81.06%.
