Dendrobium officinale Kimura & Migo is a perennial herbaceous plant of the genus Dendrobium in the family of Orchidaceae with high medicinal value. Melatonin (MT) is an indole-like tryptamine with functions such as regulating plant growth and development. This experiment investigated the effects of different concentrations of MT on the growth and development of protocorms of D. officinale protocorm-like bodies (PLBs). The results showed that the changes in morphological indicators such as color, cluster size, and surface changes were more significant under 75 µM MT than those of 0 µM (CK), and the appearance of white on the PLB surface was expedited, which was more conducive to the proliferation of PLBs. MT treatment of 100 µM inhibited the differentiation of adventitious buds, and the contents of photosynthetic pigments, polysaccharides, and flavonoids were significantly increased. Moreover, as compared with CK, the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT) in PLBs increased significantly, while the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) decreased gradually with 75 µM or less. In conclusion, a concentration of 75 µM melatonin can enhance the rapid propagation rate of D. officinale in vitro, providing insights into the effects of melatonin on the growth of tissue-cultured D. officinale seedlings. Simple Summary: This study investigated the crosstalk between the Wnt/β-catenin and Notch signaling pathways and the roles of these pathways in apoptosis, cell cycle progression, proliferation, and steroid hormone secretion in bovine follicular granulosa cells (GCs). Our results showed that Wnt/β-catenin and Notch pathway components regulated the development of bovine follicular GCs by modulating the expression of apoptotic, cell cycle, and steroidogenesis-related genes and proteins. Moreover, the Notch2 protein interacted with the β-catenin protein. Ovarian follicular GCs are strongly implicated in the growth, development, and atresia of ovarian follicles. The Wnt/β-catenin and Notch signaling pathways participate in GC proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and steroid hormone production during follicular development. However, the crosstalk between Wnt and Notch signaling in GCs remains unclear. This study investigated this crosstalk and the roles of these pathways in apoptosis, cell cycle progression, cell proliferation, and steroid hormone secretion in bovine follicular GCs. The interaction between β-catenin and Notch2 in GCs was assessed by overexpressing CTNNB1, which encodes β-catenin. The results showed that inhibiting the Notch pathway by Notch2 silencing in GCs arrested the cell cycle, promoted apoptosis, reduced progesterone (P4) production, and inhibited the Wnt2-mediated Wnt/β-catenin pathway in GCs. IWR-1 inhibited Wnt2/β-catenin and Notch signaling, reduced GC proliferation, stimulated apoptosis, induced G1 cell cycle arrest, and reduced P4 production. CTNNB1 overexpression had the opposite effect and increased 17β-estradiol (E2) production and Notch2 protein expression. Co-immunoprecipitation assays revealed that Notch2 interacted with β-catenin. The production performance of dairy cattle is closely related to their metabolic state. This study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the production performance and metabolic features of Sanhe dairy cattle across different parities, with a specific focus on evaluating variations in milk traits and metabolites in both milk and serum. Sanhe dairy cattle from parities 1 to 4 (S1, n = 10; S2, n = 9; S3, n = 10; and S4, n = 10) at mid-lactation were maintained under the same feeding and management conditions. The milk traits, hydrolyzed milk amino acid levels, serum biochemical parameters, and serum free amino acid levels of the Sanhe dairy cattle were determined. Multiparous Sanhe dairy cattle (S2, S3, and S4) had a greater milk protein content, lower milk lactose content, and lower solids-not-fat content than primiparous Sanhe dairy cattle (S1). Moreover, S1 had a higher ratio of essential to total amino acids (EAAs/TAAs) in both the serum and milk. The serum biochemical results showed the lower glucose and total protein levels in S1 cattle were associated with milk quality. Furthermore, ultra-high-resolution high-performance liquid chromatography with tandem MS analysis (UPLC-MS/MS) identified 86 and 105 differential metabolites in the serum and milk, respectively, and these were mainly involved in amino acid, carbohydrate, and lipid metabolism. S1 and S2/S3/S4 had significantly different metabolic patterns in the serum and milk, and more vitamin B-related metabolites were significantly higher identified in S1 than in multiparous cattle. Among 36 shared differential metabolites in the serum and milk, 10 and 7 metabolites were significantly and strongly correlated with differential physiological indices, respectively. The differential metabolites identified were enriched in key metabolic pathways, illustrating the metabolic characteristics of the serum and milk from Sanhe dairy cattle of different parities. L-phenylalanine, dehydroepiandrosterone, and linoleic acid in the milk and N-acetylornithine in the serum could be used as potential marker metabolites to distinguish between Sanhe dairy cattle with parities of 1–4. In addition, a metabolic map of the serum and milk from the three aspects of carbohydrates, amino acids, and lipids was created for the further analysis and exploration of their relationships. These results reveal significant variations in milk traits and metabolites across different parities of Sanhe dairy cattle, highlighting the influence of parity on the metabolic profiles and production performance. Dendrobium officinale Kimura et Migo (D. officinale) is one of the most important traditional Chinese medicinal herbs, celebrated for its abundant bioactive ingredients. This study demonstrated that the diurnal temperature difference (DIF) (T1: 13/13 °C, T2: 25/13 °C, and T3: 25/25 °C) was more favorable for high chlorophyll, increased polysaccharide, and total flavonoid contents compared to constant temperature treatments in D. officinale PLBs. The transcriptome analysis revealed 4251, 4404, and 4536 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in three different comparisons (A: 25/13 °C vs. 13/13 °C, B: 13/13 °C vs. 25/25 °C, and C: 25/13 °C vs. 25/25 °C, respectively). The corresponding up-/down-regulated DEGs were 1562/2689, 2825/1579, and 2310/2226, respectively. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses of DEGs showed that the pathways of biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, carotenoid biosynthesis, and flavonoid biosynthesis were enriched in the top 20; further analysis of the sugar- and flavonol-metabolism pathways in D. officinale PLBs revealed that the DIF led to a differential gene expression in the enzymes linked to sugar metabolism, as well as to flavonol metabolism. Certain key metabolic genes related to ingredient accumulation were identified, including those involved in polysaccharide metabolism (SUS, SUT, HKL1, HGL, AMY1, and SS3) and flavonol (UGT73C and UGT73D) metabolism. Therefore, these findings indicated that these genes may play an important role in the regulatory network of the DIF in the functional metabolites of D. officinale PLBs. In a MapMan annotation of abiotic stress pathways, the DEGs with significant changes in their expression levels were mainly concentrated in the heat-stress pathways, including heat-shock proteins (HSPs) and heat-shock transcription factors (HSFs). In particular, the expression levels of HSP18.2, HSP70, and HSF1 were significantly increased under DIF treatment, which suggested that HSF1, HSP70 and HSP18.2 may respond to the DIF. In addition, they can be used as candidate genes to study the effect of the DIF on the PLBs of D. officinale. The results of our qPCR analysis are consistent with those of the transcriptome-expression analysis, indicating the reliability of the sequencing. The results of this study revealed the transcriptome mechanism of the DIF on the accumulation of the functional metabolic components of D. officinale. In large-scale water conservancy and hydropower projects, complex rock structures are considered to be the main factor controlling the stability of hydraulic structures. The classification of rock mass structure plays an important role in the safety of all kinds of large buildings, especially underground engineering buildings. As a quantitative classification index of rock mass, the rock block index is very common in the classification of borehole and dam foundation rock mass structures. However, there are few studies on the classification of underground engineering rock masses. Moreover, their classification criteria have disadvantages in spatial dimension. Therefore, this paper takes the long exploratory cave CPD1 in the water transmission and power generation system of the Qingtian pumped storage power station in Zhejiang Province as the research object and launches a study on the structural classification of the rock mass of a flat cave based on the 3D rock block index. According to the group distribution of joints, the sections are statistically homogeneous. Additionally, the Monte Carlo method is used to carry out random simulations to generate a three-dimensional joint network model. The virtual survey lines are arranged along the center of the shape of the three different orthogonal planes of the 3D joint network model to represent the boreholes, and the RBI values of the virtual survey lines on each orthogonal plane are counted to classify the rock mass structure of the flat cave in a refined manner using the rock block index of the rock mass in 3D. The above method realizes the application of the 3D rock block index in underground engineering and overcomes the limitations of traditional rock mass classification methods in terms of classification index and dimension. The results show that: (1) Three-dimensional joint network simulations built on statistical and probabilistic foundations can visualize the structure of the rock mass and more accurately reflect the structural characteristics of the actual rock mass. (2) Based on the 3D rock block index, the rock mass structure of the long-tunnel CPD1 is classified, from that of a continuous structure to a blocky structure, corresponding to the integrity of the rock mass from complete to relatively complete. The classification results are consistent with the evaluation results of horizontal tunnel seismic wave geophysical exploration. (3) Based on the 3D joint network model, it is reasonable and feasible to use the 3D rock block index as a quantitative evaluation index to determine the structure type of flat cave rock masses. The heart valve is crucial for the human body, which directly affects the efficiency of blood transport and the normal functioning of all organs. Generally, decellularization is one method of tissue-engineered heart valve (TEHV), which can deteriorate the mechanical properties and eliminate allograft immunogenicity. In this study, removable polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is used to encapsulate decellularized porcine heart valves (DHVs) as a dynamic template to improve the processability of DHVs, such as suturing. Mechanical tests show that the strength and elastic modulus of DHVs treated with different concentrations of PVA significantly improve. Without the PVA layer, the valve would shift during suture puncture and not achieve the desired suture result. The in vitro results indicate that decellularized valves treated with PVA can sustain the adhesion and growth of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). All results above show that the DHVs treated with water-soluble PVA have good mechanical properties and cytocompatibility to ensure post-treatment. The incidence of ulcerative colitis (UC) is increasing annually. There are few treatments for UC patients, and some drugs have serious side effects. Sea cucumber peptide (SCP) has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and other biological activities, and various sea cucumber species are in pharmaceutical development. However, relevant studies on the effects of SCP on UC progression are still lacking. In this study, a mouse model of acute colitis was induced by 3% dextran sulfate (DSS), and the effect of 500 mg/kg SCP on colitis was investigated. The results showed that SCP can alleviate DSS-induced colon damage and intestinal barrier damage. SCP significantly inhibited the expression of inflammatory factors and oxidative stress in UC mice. SCP reversed the intestinal microbiota dysregulation induced by DSS, inhibited the growth of Sutterella, Prevotella_9 and Escherichia-Shigella harmful bacteria, and increased the abundance of Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136_group. At the same time, SCP treatment significantly inhibited the LPS-induced polarization of M1 macrophages, which may be mediated by two monopeptides, IPGAPGVP and TGPIGPPGSP, via FPR2. In conclusion, SCP can protect against colitis by modulating the intestinal microbiota composition and the intestinal barrier and inhibiting the polarization of M1 macrophages. In this study, Si3N4/BN fibrous monolithic ceramics were successfully prepared by wet spinning extrusion and hot pressing, and the effects on its ablation performance and microstructure were studied. The samples were burned in an oxyacetylene flame for 60 s × 30 to evaluate the ablation resistance. With the increase in ablation time, the fibrous monolithic ceramics exhibited specific mass and linear ablation rates, which show a trend of first increasing, then decreasing, and then increasing again. When the ablation time is 60 s × 10, 60 s × 20, and 60 s × 30, the mass ablation rates of the fibrous monolithic ceramics are 1 × 10−5 mg/s, −8.3 × 10−6 mg/s, −6.7 × 10−7 mg/s, respectively; the linear ablation rates are 4.7 × 10−5 μg/s, −1.2 × 10−5 μg/s and 1.7 × 10−6 μg/s. After 60 s × 30 of ablation, the surface oxides of the species are washed away by the oxyacetylene flame, revealing a porous coral-like structure with many cracks. A glass phase layer, predominantly constituted by sintering aids, envelops the Si3N4 ceramic surface on the ablated sample, serving as an effective barrier against additional ablation. To develop materials suitable for aerospace applications, silicon nitride/boron nitride (Si 3 N 4 /BN) fibrous monolithic ceramics with varying BN contents were prepared. Employing analytical techniques such as XRD and SEM, coupled with mechanical testing equipment, the influence of BN concentration on the thermal shock resistance of Si 3 N 4 /BN fibrous monolithic ceramics was assessed. When the thermal shock differential is less than 800 °C, its residual flexural strength gradually decreases as the thermal shock differential increases. Conversely, when the differential exceeds 1000 °C, the residual flexural strength of the material increases. The residual strength of all samples reached its peak after undergoing a thermal shock assessment at a 1500 °C differential. When the BN mass fraction is 5 wt.%, the residual strength after a thermal shock at a temperature difference of 1500 °C is 387 ± 19 MPa, which is 124% higher than the original strength of the sample that did not undergo thermal shock (25 °C, 311 ± 18 MPa). Large-area soil moisture (SM) data with high resolution and precision are the foundation for the research and application of hydrological and meteorological models, water resource evaluation, agricultural management, and warning of geological disasters. It is still challenging to downscale SM products in complex terrains that require fine spatial details. In this study, SM data from the Soil Moisture Active and Passive (SMAP) satellite were downscaled from 36 to 1 km in the summer and autumn of 2017 in Sichuan Province, China. Genetic-algorithm-optimized backpropagation (GABP) neural network, random forest, and convolutional neural network were applied. A fusion model between SM and longitude, latitude, elevation, slope, aspect, land-cover type, land surface temperature, normalized difference vegetation index, enhanced vegetation index, evapotranspiration, day sequence, and AM/PM was established. After downscaling, the in situ information was fused through a geographical analysis combined with a spatial interpolation to improve the quality of the downscaled SM. The comparative results show that in complex terrains, the GABP neural network better captures the soil moisture variations in both time and space domains. The GDA_Kriging method is able to merge in situ information in the downscaled SM while simultaneously maintaining the dynamic range and spatial details. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Silicon nitride ceramics are regarded as a promising material for high-temperature structural applications due to their remarkable characteristics, including high strength, hardness, thermal conductivity, low dielectric properties, and resistance to creep at elevated temperatures. However, their susceptibility to catastrophic fracture at high temperatures remains a concern. Herein, Si3N4/BN fibrous monolithic ceramics have been successfully prepared by employing wet-spinning and hot-pressing techniques. We delved into the design and optimization of the spinning slurry and examined how the Si3N4/BN fiber diameter affects the ceramics' microstructure and mechanical properties. The spinning slurry exhibited exceptional stability and spinnability. Decreasing the fiber diameter contributed to material densification and improved mechanical properties. Notably, when the fiber diameter is 0.9 mm, the fabricated Si3N4/BN fibrous monolithic ceramics demonstrate a carbon content of 0.82%, a three-point bending strength of 357 ± 24 MPa, and a fracture toughness of 8.8 ± 0.36 MPa·m1/2. This study focuses on the topic of "Urban Village Renovation Design" under the complex and diversified social needs in the third year of the architecture undergraduate program at Zhejiang University, China. Based on the theory and method of "situational teaching," this study proposes a teaching framework integrating the investigation and cognition of nonmorphological elements, such as historical background, economic structure, social structure, public service, and human needs. The study aims to reveal the analysis and response of site investigation and architectural programming to social needs in the realistic context, and take nonmorphological elements as one of the important factors to promote the rationality and authenticity of architectural design, standardize the teaching process in the form of the teaching framework, and realize the teaching goal of solving social needs by design. Qualitative analyses are used to evaluate whether the proposed teaching framework achieves the expected teaching effects according to Bloom's Taxonomy. We then use the Kirkpatrick model to quantitatively evaluate the specific effects of the framework, and the differences in the positive effects of nonmorphological elements on teaching are explored. In addition, regression analysis is used to discuss ways of obtaining nonmorphological elements. The results show that the teaching framework is a feasible method to improve students' understanding of social problems and implement reasonable architectural programming that integrates nonmorphological elements in the architectural design course. To some extent, this teaching framework addresses the neglect of nonmorphological elements in traditional Chinese architectural design teaching, and forms an experience-based teaching methodology that can be used to guide architectural design teaching on other topics. The vertical structure of radar echo is crucial for understanding complex microphysical processes of clouds and precipitation, and for providing essential data support for the study of low-level wind shear and turbulence formation, evolution, and dissipation. Therefore, finding methods to improve the vertical data resolution of the existing radar network is crucial. Existing algorithms for improving image resolution usually focus on increasing the width and height of images. However, improving the vertical data resolution of weather radar requires a focus on improving the elevation angle resolution while maintaining distance resolution. To address this challenge, we propose a network for super-resolution reconstruction of weather radar echo vertical structures. The network is based on a multi-scale residual feedback network (MR-FBN) and uses new multi-scale feature residual blocks (MSRB) to effectively extract and utilize data features at different scales. The feedback network gradually generates the final high-resolution vertical structure data. In addition, we propose an elevation upsampling layer (EUL) specifically for this task, replacing the traditional image subpixel convolution layer. Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively improve the elevation angle resolution of weather radar echo vertical structure data, providing valuable help for atmospheric detection. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been utilized extensively to improve the resolution of weather radar. Most existing CNN-based super-resolution algorithms using PPI (Plan position indicator, which provides a maplike presentation in polar coordinates of range and angle) images plotted by radar data lead to the loss of some valid information by using image processing methods for super-resolution reconstruction. To solve this problem, a weather radar that echoes the super-resolution reconstruction algorithm—based on residual attention back-projection network (RABPN)—is proposed to improve the the radar base data resolution. RABPN consists of multiple Residual Attention Groups (RAGs) connected with long skip connections to form a deep network; each RAG is composed of some residual attention blocks (RABs) connected with short skip connections. The residual attention block mined the mutual relationship between low-resolution radar echoes and high-resolution radar echoes by adding a channel attention mechanism to the deep back-projection network (DBPN). Experimental results demonstrate that RABPN outperforms the algorithms compared in this paper in visual evaluation aspects and quantitative analysis, allowing a more refined radar echo structure, especially in terms of echo details and edge structure features. Background: Cornelia de Lange syndrome (CdLS) is a genetic syndrome characterized by intellectual disability, special facial features, growth retardation, feeding difficulties, and multiple organ system abnormalities. NIPBL variants occur in approximately 80% of CdLS cases. Aims: We report a novel de novo heterozygous pathogenic variant in the NIPBL and its association with CdLS. We also examined the key regulatory sequences of the 5′ untranslated region in NIPBL mRNA. Few studies have reported mutation sites in the 5′ untranslated region (UTR) of the NIPBL that result in CdLS. Methods: The patient's medical history, clinical manifestations, physical examination, laboratory examination, Griffiths development assessment scale—Chinese version, and cardiac B-ultrasound were examined. Mutation screening was conducted using trio whole exome sequencing (trio-WES) and Sanger sequencing. Quantitative PCR was performed to measure the NIPBL expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells. A Dual-Luciferase reporter assay was conducted to evaluate the transcription of truncated mutants. Results: The proband showed characteristics of CdLS including thick eyebrows, a concave nasal ridge, long and smooth philtrum, downturned corners of the mouth, intellectual disability, postnatal growth retardation, and a short fifth toe. A novel de novo heterozygous pathogenic variant in the NIPBL (c.-467C > T) was identified. A Dual-Luciferase reporter gene assay showed that SPO1 (-490 bp to -360 bp) and SPO3 (-490 bp to -401 bp) induced the highest activity. Conclusions: We found a novel de novo heterozygous pathogenic variant (c.-467C > T) in the NIPBL resulting in CdLS. Our findings expand the spectrum of pathogenic mutations for CdLS. Folate is a B-vitamin required for DNA synthesis, methylation, and cellular division, whose deficiencies are associated with various disorders and diseases. Currently, most folic acid used for fortification is synthesized chemically, causing undesirable side effects. However, using folate-producing probiotics is a viable option, which fortify folate in situ and regulate intestinal microbiota. In this study, the folate production potential of newly isolated strains from raw milk was analyzed by microbiological assay. Latilactobacillus sakei LZ217 showed the highest folate production in Folic Acid Assay Broth, 239.70 ± 0.03 ng/μL. The folate produced by LZ217 was identified as 5-methyltetrahydrofolate. LZ217 was tolerant to environmental stresses (temperature, pH, NaCl, and ethanol), and was resistant to gastrointestinal juices. Additionally, the in vitro effects of LZ217 on human gut microbiota were investigated by fecal slurry cultures. 16S rDNA gene sequencing indicated that fermented samples containing LZ217 significantly increased the abundance of phylum Firmicutes and genus Lactobacillus, Faecalibacterium, Ruminococcus 2, Butyricicoccus compared to not containing. Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) analysis revealed that LZ217 also increased the production of butyric acid by fermentation. The mechanical properties and fracture behaviour of concretes under different triaxial stress states were investigated based on a 3D mesoscale model. The quasistatic triaxial loadings, namely, compression–compression–compression (C–C–C), compression–tension–tension (C–T–T) and compression–compression–tension (C–C–T), were simulated using an implicit solver. The mesoscopic modelling with good robustness gave reliable and detailed damage evolution processes under different triaxial stress states. The lateral tensile stress significantly influenced the multiaxial mechanical behaviour of the concretes, accelerating the concrete failure. With low lateral pressures or tensile stress, axial cleavage was the main failure mode of the specimens. Furthermore, the concretes presented shear failures under medium lateral pressures. The concretes experienced a transition from brittle fracture to plastic failure under high lateral pressures. The Ottosen parameters were modified by the gradient descent method and then the failure criterion of the concretes in the principal stress space was given. The failure criterion could describe the strength characteristics of concrete materials well by being fitted with experimental data under different triaxial stress states. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Based on the up-regulation of the proviral integration site of the Moloney murine leukemia virus (Pim) kinase family (Pim1, 2, and 3) observed in several types of leukemias and lymphomas, the development of pan-Pim inhibitors is an attractive therapeutic strategy. While only PIM447 and AZD1208 have entered the clinical stages. To elucidate the interaction mechanisms of three Pim kinases with PIM447 and AZD1208, six Pim/ligand systems were studied by homology modeling, molecular docking, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation and molecular mechanics/generalized Born surface area (MM/GBSA) binding free energy calculation. The residues of the top group (Leu44, Val52, Ala65, Lys67, and Leu120 in Pim1) dominated the pan-Pim inhibitors binding to Pim kinases. The residues of the bottom group (Gln127, Asp128, and Leu174 in Pim1) were crucial for Pims/PIM447 systems, while the contributions of these residues were decreased sharply for Pims/AZD1208 systems. It is likely that the more potent pan-Pim inhibitors should be bound strongly to the top and bottom groups. The residues of the left, right and loop groups were located in the loop regions of the binding pocket, however, the flexibility of these regions triggered the protein interacting with diverse pan-Pim inhibitors efficiently. A white light non-scanning correlation interrogation system was proposed and built to interrogate absolute length of the air cavity of fiber-optic compound Fabry–Perot pressure sensors for the extraction of pressure value. By carefully choosing thickness range and tilt angle of the optical wedge used for cavity length matching, correlation interferometric signal of the basal cavity can be naturally filtered out. Based on peak positioning by Fourier transform, bandpass filtering in frequency domain, inverse Fourier transform back to time domain, envelope fitting and zero fringe finding through a gravity center method, cavity length can be determined with an accuracy of 0.04%. The system was used for the interrogation of a fiber-optic compound Fabry–Perot pressure sensor under different pressures. For a pressure range of 0.1~2.9 Mpa, the linear relationship between the air cavity length and the gas pressure imposed was successfully extracted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The heart valve is crucial for the human body, which directly affects the efficiency of blood transport and the normal functioning of all organs. Generally, decellularization is one method of tissue-engineered heart valve (TEHV), which can deteriorate the mechanical properties and eliminate allograft immunogenicity. In this study, removable polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is used to encapsulate decellularized porcine heart valves (DHVs) as a dynamic template to improve the processability of DHVs, such as suturing. Mechanical tests show that the strength and elastic modulus of DHVs treated with different concentrations of PVA significantly improve. Without the PVA layer, the valve would shift during suture puncture and not achieve the desired suture result. The in vitro results indicate that decellularized valves treated with PVA can sustain the adhesion and growth of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). All results above show that the DHVs treated with water-soluble PVA have good mechanical properties and cytocompatibility to ensure post-treatment. On this basis, the improved processability of DHV treated with PVA enables a new paradigm for the manufacturing of scaffolds, making it easy to apply.

Emission in the nanostructured materials is important in micro/nanoelectronic devices. We report here a strategy for the processing of micron and submicron fibers from a cobalt-containing hyperbranched polysilazane by electrospinning. The electrospun nanofibers have uniform average diameters of ~600 nm and lengths of ~10 μm. The photophysical properties of polycobaltsilazane (PCSN) are studied using UV-VIS and photoluminescence spectroscopies. PCSN fibers display a series of emission peaks between 490 and 615 nm. The Co(II) doping into polysilazane leads to the emission from 465 to 415 nm. The emission wavelength shift of Co(III)-containing polysilazane is specific under 340 and 470 nm excitation wavelengths, respectively, while it is not observed with metal-free polysilazane. Thermogravimetric analysis-Differentical thermal analysis (TGA-DTA) profiles also show good thermostability of the PCSN fibers at 800 °C under Ar atmosphere. The use of PCSN offers both enhanced ceramic yields against ~5 wt % starting material and the fluorescence intensity of polymeric fibers.

In this study, two polysaccharides (Elaeagnus angustifolia L. polysaccharide-1 (PEA-1) and PEA-2) were prepared from Elaeagnus angustifolia L. Then, the preliminary structure and antioxidant activities of all the samples were investigated. The results showed that the average molecular weights for PEA-1 and PEA-2 were 9113 and 5020 Da, respectively. And, PEA-1 was mainly composed of rhamnose, xylose, mannose, glucose, and galactose, respectively. The components of PEA-2 were rhamnose, mannose, glucose, and galactose, respectively. Moreover, the Antioxidant assays demonstrated that PEA-1 possessed of strong free radicals scavenging activity and hydroxyl radicals scavenging activities, suggesting that PEA-1 could potentially be used as natural antioxidant.
