This article compares the results of estimating the buckling capacity of steel spherical shells using simple engineering formulas with the results of selected experimental studies that have been conducted over the past 70 years. It is worth noting that these studies were conducted by research centers from all over the world, and the tested coatings differed in material, manufacturing method, radius R, and thickness t. The test methods, procedures, and measurement tools were also different. The convergence of the results obtained between the proposed simple engineering approach, which is based on the provisions of EN-1993-1-6 and the recommendations in EDR5th, and the experimental studies is satisfactory, and in many cases the results obtained are almost identical. Therefore, it is possible to practically apply the developed algorithms for estimating the buckling capacity of steel spherical shells without worrying too much about the capacity reserve. This study presents a numerical investigation into the adhesion strength of micro fibrillar structures, incorporating statistical analysis and the effects of excessive pre–load leading to fibril buckling. Fibrils are modeled as soft cylinders using the Euler–Bernoulli beam theory, with buckling conditions described across three distinct states, each affecting the adhesive properties of the fibrils. Iterative simulations analyze how adhesion strength varies with pre–load, roughness, number of fibrils, and the work of adhesion. Roughness is modeled both in fibril heights and in the texture of a rigid counter surface, following a normal distribution with a single variance parameter. Results indicate that roughness and pre–load significantly influence adhesion strength, with excessive pre–load causing substantial buckling and a dramatic reduction in adhesion. This study also finds that adhesion strength decreases exponentially with increasing roughness, in line with theoretical expectations. The findings highlight the importance of buckling and roughness parameters in determining adhesion strength. This study offers valuable insights into the complex adhesive interactions of fibrillar structures, offering a scalable solution for rapid assessment of adhesion in various rough surface and loading scenarios. Plates and curved plates are essential components in ship construction. In the design stage, the methods used to evaluate the ultimate strength required to confirm the structural safety of plates include prediction through analytical methods, finite-element analysis (FEA), and empirical formulas. However, with nonlinear buckling, the results of the empirical formula and the FEA differ for small flank angles (1~9). As a result, the prediction of the nonlinear ultimate strength of flank angle (1~9) plates still requires significant computation time and cost. To compensate for this, this study performed an ultimate strength prediction method utilizing a deep neural network together with the 4050 curved plate analysis. In addition, this paper presents the analysis results of the nonlinear finite-element method and the geometric shape and ratio of curved plates as training data. A parametric investigation of several unbraced steel frames with regular and irregular geometry subjected to elevated temperatures is carried out in this study to determine the most accurate procedure and buckling lengths to be considered during the structural design under a fire situation. In such conditions, the stiffness and strength of steel decrease considerably due to high temperatures, and uncertainty remains in the application of the fire design rules of Eurocode 3 Part 1-2 (EN 1993-1-2) for unbraced frames as no information is given regarding the treatment of the deformed geometry (the so-called second-order effects). More precisely, it is unclear in the norm whether the verification based on the buckling length concept could be used or if a second-order analysis to calculate the internal forces is sufficient to ensure the stability of the frame in case of fire. Based on the linear buckling analysis of the steel frames accounting for the temperature development during a fire, recommendations for the appropriate buckling lengths to be used are given. Finally, it is demonstrated that using the recommended buckling lengths together with the design rules of EN 1993-1-2 leads to results in favor of safety when compared to the results obtained with the finite element method. On the other hand, it is concluded that using second-order internal forces and the real length of the columns as the buckling length, as suggested for room temperature design, yielded results outside safety when compared with the finite element method, and this analysis and verification procedure should not be used for the case of fire. The paper presents a static analysis of the buckling and post-buckling state of thin-walled cold-formed steel (TWCFS) lipped channel section beam-columns subjected to eccentric compression. Eccentricity is taken into consideration relative to both major and minor principal axes. An analytical–numerical solution to the buckling and post-buckling problems is described. The solution is based on the theory of thin plates. Equations of equilibrium of section walls are derived from the principle of stationary energy. Then, to solve the problem, the finite difference (FDM) and Newton–Raphson methods are applied. Linear (buckling) and nonlinear (post-buckling) analyses are performed. As a result, pre- and post-buckling equilibrium paths are determined. Comparisons of the obtained numerical results, FE simulation results, and experimental test results are carried out and presented in comparative load-shortening diagrams. The effects of initial small-scale material nonlinearity on the pre-yield and pre-buckling response of externally pressurized metallic (plane strain) perfect rings (very long cylindrical shells) is investigated. The cylindrically curved 16-node element, based on an assumed quadratic displacement field (in surface-parallel coordinates) and the assumption of linear distribution of displacements through thickness (LDT), is employed to obtain the discretized system equations. The effect of initial small-scale material nonlinearity (assumed hypo-elastic) on the deformation and stress in the pre-yield and pre-buckling regime of a very long relatively thin metallic cylindrical shell (plane strain ring) is numerically investigated. These numerical results demonstrate that the enhanced responses for metallic rings due to initial small-scale nonlinearity are significant enough to not miss attentions from designers and operators of submersibles alike. Additive manufacturing enables the production of lattice structures, which have been proven to be a superior class of lightweight mechanical metamaterials whose specific stiffness can reach the theoretical limit of the upper Hashin–Shtrikman bound for isotropic cellular materials. To achieve isotropy, complex structures are required, which can be challenging in powder bed additive manufacturing, especially with regard to subsequent powder removal. The present study focuses on the Finite Element Method simulation of 2.5D anisotropic plate lattice metamaterials and the investigation of their lightweight potential. The intentional use of anisotropic structures allows the production of a cell architecture that is easily manufacturable via Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) while also enabling straightforward optimization for specific load cases. The work demonstrates that the considered anisotropic plate lattices exhibit high weight-specific stiffnesses, superior to those of honeycomb structures, and, simultaneously, a good de-powdering capability. A significant increase in stiffness and the associated surpassing of the upper Hashin–Shtrikman bound due to anisotropy is achievable by optimizing wall thicknesses depending on specific load cases. A stability analysis reveals that, in all lattice structures, plastic deformation is initiated before linear buckling occurs. An analysis of stress concentrations indicates that the introduction of radii at the plate intersections reduces stress peaks and simultaneously increases the weight-specific stiffnesses and thus the lightweight potential. Previous investigations have found a correlation between abnormal curvatures and a variety of patient complaints such as cervical pain and disability. However, no study has shown that loss of the cervical curve is a direct result of exposure to a motor vehicle collision (MVC). This investigation presents a retrospective consecutive case series of patients with both a pre-injury cervical lateral radiograph (CLR) and a post-injury CLR after exposure to an MVC. Computer analysis of digitized vertebral body corners on CLRs was performed to investigate the possible alterations in the geometric alignment of the sagittal cervical curve. Methods: Three spine clinic records were reviewed over a 2-year period, looking for patients where both an initial lateral cervical X-ray and an examination were performed prior to the patient being exposed to a MVC; afterwards, an additional exam and radiographic analysis were obtained. A total of 41 patients met the inclusion criteria. Examination records of pain intensity on numerical pain rating scores (NPRS) and neck disability index (NDI), if available, were analyzed. The CLRs were digitized and modeled in the sagittal plane using curve fitting and the least squares error approach. Radiographic variables included total cervical curve (ARA C2–C7), Chamberlain's line to horizontal (skull flexion), horizontal translation of C2 relative to C7, segmental translations (retrolisthesis and anterolisthesis), and circular modelling radii. Results: There were 15 males and 26 females with an age range of 8–65 years. Most participants were drivers (28) involved in rear-end impacts (30). The pre-injury NPRS was 2.7 while the post injury was 5.0; p < 0.001. The NDI was available on 24/41 (58.5%) patients and increased after the MVC from 15.7% to 32.8%, p < 0.001. An altered cervical curvature was identified following exposure to MVC, characterized by an increase in the mean radius of curvature (265.5 vs. 555.5, p < 0.001) and an approximate 8° reduction of lordosis from C2–C7; p < 0.001. The mid-cervical spine (C3–C5) showed the greatest curve reduction with an averaged localized mild kyphosis at these levels. Four participants (10%) developed segmental translations that were just below the threshold of instability, segmental translations < 3.5 mm. Conclusions: The post-exposure MVC cervical curvature was characterized by an increase in radius of curvature, an approximate 8° reduction in C2–C7 lordosis, a mild kyphosis of the mid-cervical spine, and a slight increase in anterior translation of C2–C7 sagittal balance. The modelling result indicates that the post-MVC cervical sagittal alignment approximates a second-order buckling alignment, indicating a significant alteration in curve geometry. Additive manufacturing (AM) by using direct metal deposition (DMD) often causes erratic distortion patterns, especially on large parts. This study presents a systematic distortion analysis by employing numerical approaches using transient–thermal and structural simulations, experimental approaches using tomography, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and an analytical approach calculating the buckling distortion of a piston. The most essential geometrical features are thin walls situated between massive rings. An eigenvalue buckling analysis, a DMD process, and heat treatment simulation are presented. The eigenvalue buckling simulation shows that it is highly dependent on the mesh size. The computational effort of the DMD and heat treatment simulation was reduced through simplifications. Moreover, artificial imperfections were imposed in the heat treatment simulation, which moved the part into the buckling state inspired by the experiment. Although the numerical results of both simulations are successful, the eigenvalue and DMD simulation cannot be validated through tomography and XRD. This is because tomography is unable to measure small elastic strain fields, the simulated residual stresses were overestimated, and the part removal disturbed the residual stress equilibrium. Nevertheless, the heat treatment simulation can predict the distortion pattern caused by an inhomogeneous temperature field during ambient cooling in an oven. The massive piston skirt cools down and shrinks faster than the massive core. This study conducts buckling and free vibration analyses of multi-directional functionally graded sandwich plates subjected to various boundary conditions. Two scenarios are considered: a functionally graded (FG) skin with a homogeneous hard core, and an FG skin with a homogeneous soft core. Utilizing refined plate models, which incorporate a parabolic distribution of transverse shear stresses while ensuring zero shear stresses on both the upper and lower surfaces, equations of motion are derived using Hamilton's principle. Analytical solutions for the buckling and free vibration analyses of multi-directional FG sandwich plates under diverse boundary conditions are developed and presented. The obtained results are validated against the existing literature for both the buckling and free vibration analyses. The composition of metal–ceramic-based FG materials varies longitudinally and transversely, following a power law. Various types of sandwich plates are considered, accounting for plate symmetry and layer thicknesses. This paper presents a direct 3D numerical simulation of biaxial surface wrinkling of thin metal film on a compliant substrate. The selected compliant substrate is a commercial Scotch tape on which a gold metal thin film has been transferred by using low adhesion between the thin metal film and polyimide substrate. Compared with the previous fabrication of a cylindrical thin-film wrinkling pattern, an undulated wrinkling pattern has been implemented by increasing the width of the thin metal film in order to create biaxial straining in the thin film. To understand the wrinkling behavior due to biaxial loading, a simple direct numerical simulation based on material imperfections defined in the compliant substrate has been conducted. Through modeling and simulation, it was found that the wrinkling mode is determined by the biaxiality ratio (BR), the ratio between transversal strain and longitudinal strain. Depending on the BR, the wrinkling mode belongs to one of the cylindrical, undulated (or herringbone), checkerboard, or labyrinth modes as a function of applied strain. The cylindrical wrinkling is dominant at the input of BR less than 0.5, while the undulated (or herringbone) ones become dominant just after the onset of the wrinkling pattern at BR greater than 0.9. Small-sized stainless steel hand files are conventionally employed in root canal treatment procedures for canal scouting and for glide path establishment, owing to their superior flexibility and proficiency in navigating confined spaces. Given the diversity of brands available in the market, there exists potential variability in their physical characteristics, thereby influencing clinical performance. Consequently, this study aims to conduct a comparative analysis of the design, metallurgy, and mechanical characteristics among seven stainless steel hand file brands across ISO sizes 06, 08, and 10. A total of 315 new 25 mm length stainless steel hand files with apical sizes of 0.06, 0.08, and 0.10 from seven distinct brands were included in the study. A meticulous inspection of all instruments was undertaken to identify any structural deformations that might render them ineligible for the study. The design inspection involved the random selection of instruments from each group, which were examined under various microscopes, including a dental operating microscope, optical microscope, and scanning electron microscope. Furthermore, two instruments from each group underwent energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis for elemental composition documentation. Mechanical tests were conducted to evaluate the instruments' resistance to lateral deformation (buckling) and their microhardness. Statistical analysis was executed using the nonparametric Mood's median test, with a predetermined significance level of 0.05. Regarding the instruments design, all files exhibited an active blade length ranging from 16 to 17 mm. However, variations were observed in the number of spirals, tip designs, and sizes, with the API K-File notably larger in sizes 0.06 and 0.08 compared to the other instruments. Despite uniform elements composition, differences in geometric features and mechanical properties were evident. Concerning buckling strength, the API K-File demonstrated superior performance across all tested sizes, while the Dentsply ReadySteel, SybronEndo, and Mani K-Files exhibited lower results (p < 0.05). In microhardness assessments, both the API and Oro K-Files displayed the lowest outcomes, with medians of 531 HVN and 532 HVN, respectively, whereas the SybronEndo K-File exhibited the highest microhardness (657 HVN). Despite similar metallurgical composition, the observed distinctions in geometric features and mechanical properties underscore the impact of the manufacturing process on the characteristics of glide path stainless steel endodontic files. Experimental and theoretical solutions have shown that imperfections in wide-flanged structural columns may reduce the failure load of the column by as much as 30% with respect to that of a perfect column. Therefore, the early detection and prevention of such imperfections, which would likely reduce the load capacity of a structure, are critical for avoiding catastrophic failure. In the present article, we show how machine learning may be used to detect imperfection sensitivity in pultruded columns using observable column deformations occurring at loads as low as 30% of the design load. Abaqus simulations were used to capture the behavior of such columns of various lengths under service load. The deformations found from the simulations were used to train the machine learning algorithm. Similar deformations could be easily collected from in-service columns using inexpensive instrumentation. With over 3000 test cases, 95% accuracy in the correct detection of imperfection sensitivity was found. This paper focuses on the size-dependent free vibration and buckling behaviors of the axially functionally graded (AFG) graphene platelets (GPLs) reinforced nanocomposite microbeams subjected to axially varying loads (AVLs). With various axial grading patterns, the GPL nano-reinforcements are distributed throughout the polymer matrix against microbeam length, and the improved Halpin–Tsai micromechanics model and the rule of mixture are adopted to evaluate the effective material properties. Eigenvalue equations of the microbeams governing the static stability and vibration are derived based on the modified couple stress Euler–Bernoulli beam theory via the state-space method, and are analytically solved with the discrete equilong segment model. The effects of axial distribution patterns, weight fraction, and geometric parameters of GPLs, as well as different types of AVLs, on the size-dependent buckling load and natural frequency are scrutinized in detail. This paper investigates the effect of an open hole on the stability of a compressed laminated composite plate. The study was carried out in two ways: using experimental tests and numerical analysis. As a result of the experiment, the buckling form and path of the plate were recorded. The form of buckling was determined using the ARAMIS non-contact measurement system. The critical load value was determined from the working path using the approximation method. The experimental results were verified by numerical analysis based on the finite element method. FEM investigations were carried out in terms of a linear eigenproblem analysis. This allowed the bifurcation load and the corresponding buckling form of the numerical model of the plate to be determined. Investigating the effect of the hole in the compressed plate at a critical state showed high agreement between the proposed test methods. No clear effect of the hole size on the buckling of the plate was observed. In contrast, a clear effect of the hole on the critical load value was determined. The maximum decrease in the critical load value was 14%. The same decrease was observed for the stiffness of the post-critical characteristics. It was shown that the [45|−45|90|0]s composite plate had more than three times lower strength compared to [0|−45|45|90]s and [0|90|0|90]s. The novelty of this article is the development of a research methodology based on new interdisciplinary research methods for describing the influence of the central hole on the stability of compressed composite plates. Cold-formed steel (CFS) sections constructed with high-strength steel have gained prominence in construction owing to their advantages, including a high strength-to-weight ratio, shape flexibility, availability in long spans, portability, cost-effectiveness, and design versatility. However, the thin thickness of CFS members makes them susceptible to various forms of buckling. This study focuses on addressing and mitigating different types of buckling in columns and beams by manipulating the lip length (d) and the ratio of inside radius to thickness (Ri/t) in CFS C-sections. To achieve this objective, a comprehensive analysis involving 176 models was conducted through the Finite Element Method (FEM). The findings reveal that an increase in lip length leads to a corresponding increase in critical elastic buckling load and moment ( P c r l , P c r d , P c r e , M c r l , M c r d , and M c r e ). It is recommended to utilize a lip length greater than or equal to 15 mm for both columns and beams to mitigate various buckling types effectively. Conversely, an increase in the ratio of inside radius to thickness (Ri/t) results in an increase in critical elastic local buckling load ( P c r l ) and moment ( M c r l ). Thus, lip length (d) significantly influences column and beam buckling, whereas Ri/t exhibits a relatively impactful effect. Subsequently, the experimental test results were used to verify finite element models. No theoretical model effectively explains the blistering process, which provokes functional distress in asphalt pavements worldwide. This study focuses on the possible causes of blistering, the physical processes that drive blistering, the role of asphalt properties, and the uncertainties and gaps in the current knowledge. This paper analyzes peer-reviewed studies on pavement blistering published between 1959 and 2022 retrieved in a systematic literature review to justify and model this distress observed on sidewalks, airports, and bridges. According to the scientific literature, high surface temperatures due to solar radiation are the common factor responsible for uplifting, but several causal mechanisms have been investigated. Indeed, chemical reactions, evolutionary materials, thermal buckling, and physical reactions are the generally recognized causes. Their effects on pavement smoothness vary according to the various interdependent geometrical, physical, and mechanical properties of asphalt mixtures and the boundary conditions. Both the mix design and construction processes can hinder the blistering process that occurs during daytime hours of the hot season, right after the work is finished or a few years later. New or in-service truss bridges, with or without upper bracing systems, may display instability phenomena such as general lateral torsional buckling of the upper chord. The buckling of structural elements, particularly in the case of steel bridges, can be associated with the risk of collapse or temporary/permanent withdrawal from service. Such incidents have occurred in the case of several bridges in different countries: the collapse of the Dee bridge with truss girders in 1847 in Cheshire, England; the collapse of the semi-parabolic truss girder bridge near Ljubičevo over the Morava River in Serbia in 1892; the collapse of the Dysart bridge in Cambria County, Pennsylvania in 2007; the collapse of the Chauras bridge in Uttarakhand, India in 2012; and the collapse of a bridge in Nova Scotia, Canada (2020), and such examples may continue. Buckling poses a significant danger as it often occurs at lower load values compared to those considered during the design phase. Additionally, this phenomenon can manifest suddenly, without prior warning, rendering intervention for its prevention impossible or futile. In contemporary times, most research and design calculation software offer the capability to establish preliminary values for buckling loads, even for highly intricate structures. This is typically achieved through linear eigenvalue buckling analyses, often followed by significantly more complex large displacement nonlinear analyses. However, interpreting the results for complex bridge structures can be challenging, and their accuracy is difficult to ascertain. Consequently, this paper aims to introduce an original method for a more straightforward estimation of the buckling load of the upper chord in steel truss bridges. This method utilizes the theory of beams on discrete elastic supports. This study introduces multi-objective genetic algorithms for optimizing the stacking sequence of lightweight composite structures. Notably, significant emphasis is placed on adhering to engineering design guidelines specific to stacking sequence design. These guidelines are effectively integrated into the optimization problem formulation as either constraints or additional objectives. To enhance the initialization process, a novel strategy is proposed based on mechanical considerations. The method is then applied to optimize a composite laminate in terms of weight, inverse reserve factor, and buckling load factor. Three laminates were considered, and the influence of the design and the material composition on their mechanical properties were studied. This research demonstrated that a new stacking sequence [906/454/06] resulted in improved optimum designs compared to the traditional stacking sequence comprising plies at 0°, 45°, and 90° angles. To maximize the capabilities of nano- and micro-class satellites, which are limited by their size, weight, and power, advancements in deployable mechanisms with a high deployable surface area to packaging volume ratio are necessary. Without progress in understanding the mechanics of high-strain materials and structures, the development of compact deployable mechanisms for this class of satellites would be difficult. This paper presents fabrication, experimental testing, and progressive failure modeling to study the deformation of an ultra-thin composite beam. The research study examines the deformation modes of a post-deployed boom under repetitive pure bending loads using a four-point bending setup and bending collapse failure under eccentric buckling. The material and fabrication challenges for ultra-thin, high-stiffness (UTHS) composite boom are discussed in detail. The continuum damage mechanics (CDM) model for the beam is calibrated using experimental coupon testing and was used for a finite element explicit analysis of the boom. It is shown that UTHS can sustain a bending radius of 14 mm without significant fiber and matrix damage. The finite element model accurately predicts the localized transverse fiber damage under eccentric buckling and buckling stiffness of 15.6 N/mm. The results of the bending simulation were found to closely match the experimental results, indicating that the simulation accurately shows deformation stages and predicts damage to the material. The findings of this research provide a better understanding of the structure characteristics with the progressive damage model of the UTHS boom, which can be used for designing a complex deployable payload for nano-micro-class satellites. To establish a glide path, smaller files (up to size 0.15) with tapers of 2% are commonly used as pathfinding files. They pre-shape the root canal space before transitioning to larger taper endodontic instruments, aiming to prevent procedural errors. This study aimed to compare the design, metal wire composition, and mechanical characteristics of seven different ISO size 15 stainless-steel hand files (K-File and C-File+). Ninety-one new stainless-steel ISO 15 K-files were mechanically tested. All files were inspected for deformations before the assessment. Dental operating microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and optical microscope analyses were conducted on four randomly selected instruments from each group, and two instruments per group underwent an energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis. Buckling mechanical tests were performed using an Instron universal testing machine, and microhardness was assessed using a Vickers hardness tester. The statistical analysis employed the nonparametric Mood's median test, with a significance level set at 0.05. The instrument design analysis unveiled variations in the active blade area length and the number of spirals, while maintaining consistent cross-sections and symmetrical blades. Distinct tip geometries and surface irregularities were observed. While the energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy confirmed similar compositions, the buckling strength and microhardness values exhibited variability across for all tested files. Notably, the Dentsply ReadySteel C-File+ recorded the highest buckling value (2.10 N), and the Dentsply ReadySteel K-File exhibited the lowest (1.00 N) (p < 0.05). The Double-Double (DD) laminate family allows for simplification in the context of buckling analysis. Stacking-sequence discussions, known from conventional-laminate optimization, made from 0 ∘ , ± 45 ∘ , 90 ∘ plies, omit for DD. The recently presented DD-specific buckling relation is applied in this article to the 18-panel, 'horse-shoe' laminate blending reference case. The use case addresses the challenge of identifying a compatible group of laminates for differently loaded, adjacent regions, as it is a common scenario in wing covers and fuselage skins. To meet the complex and diverse demands for low-stress mechanical measurements of fabrics and other flexible materials, two integrated multidimensional force sensors with the same structure but different ranges were explored. They can support both rapid and precise low-noise, high-precision, low-cost, easy-to-use, reliable, and intelligent solutions for the complex measurement of fabric mechanics. Having analysed the mechanical relationship of the parallel beam theory, and considering the specific requirements of fabric measurement, a novel multi-dimensional force sensor is designed, capable of measuring tensile, shear, and buckling properties. Finite element analysis is used to simulate the mechanical performance of this sensor for fabric-loading/unloading measurement, and the sensitivity of the mechanical quantity transfer, the amount of sensor deformation, the stress distribution, and the degree of inter-dimensional coupling have been investigated and verified. The basis for subsequent digital processing is achieved by a low-offset, low-temperature-drift, low-power-consumption analogue front end, 24-bit ADC circuit, and signal conditioning electronics, suitable for the measurement of fabric mechanics under low stress, which is like the end-user requirements. The sensor information channel is supported by a host microcontroller with a DSP and a floating-point processing instruction set. Information processing is performed in time-sharing with the support of a multitasking real-time operating system. The purpose of designing this sensor is to facilitate the development of a new testing instrument, which will adopt the advances of current instruments whilst eliminating their shortcomings. The buckling behavior of rectangular thin plates, which are supported at their four corner points with four edges free, is a matter of great concern in the field of plate and shell mechanics. Nevertheless, the complexities arising from the boundary conditions and governing equations present a formidable obstacle to the attainment of analytical solutions for these problems. Despite the availability of various approximate/numerical methods for addressing these challenges, the literature lacks accurate analytic solutions. In this study, we employ the symplectic superposition method, a recently developed method, to effectively analyze the buckling problem of rectangular thin plates analytically. These plates have four supported corners and four free edges. To achieve this, the problem is divided into two sub-problems and solve them separately using variable separation and symplectic eigen expansion, leading to analytical solutions. Finally, we obtain the resolution to the initial issue by superposing the sub-problems. The current solution method can be regarded as a logical, analytical, and rational approach as it begins with the basic governing equation and is systematically derived without assuming the forms of the solutions. This paper studies the dynamic response of corner-supported modular steel buildings with a core wall system, under progressive collapse scenarios, associated with corner module removals. Since using secondary systems such as concrete core in mid- to high-rise buildings is currently unavoidable, understanding their impact on load transfer between modules during collapse scenarios becomes essential. The designated four-, eight-, and twelve-story buildings were modelled using the macro-model-based finite element method in Abaqus. In addition, three different locations are considered for the concrete shear core within the building plan, leading to nine various case scenarios. Each vertical and horizontal inter-module connection was modelled by one axial and two shear springs with predefined nonlinear force-displacement behavior. The local and global buckling, which plays an essential role in the building's stability, was considered to obtain accurate results. Finally, parametric studies on the building response were carried out, including the intra-module connection rigidity and inter-module connection stiffness. The results demonstrated that the core wall could maintain the robustness of a modular steel building through two mechanisms dependent on its location within the plan. Although a crane is exposed to a wide range of loads, there is a growing need for a lighter, more slender design. As a result, double girder cranes are becoming single girder cranes, aiming to make the steel structure as light as possible. The optimization potential of the classic design as a hollow-box girder is approaching its end. In order to meet today's requirements, a new design was developed, which combines beams with curved panels into a new cross-section to be used as the crane's main girder. Compound cross-sections pose a challenge for the mechanical engineer as there are usually no comparative data available and designing using numerical methods is complex. For this reason, a scaled model was abstracted for which a load determination will be carried out in 2024. This article deals with the finite element calculations for the design of the test specimen. A global numerical analysis was used to determine the buckling load, and several imperfection patterns were investigated. The results revealed that the buckling loads are similar to each other. Composite laminated structural panels are widely used in various industries such as aerospace and machinery because of their light weight, large specific stiffness, and strong fatigue resistance. As a typical engineering structure, the composite stiffened plate is designed to enhance the bearing capacity of the laminated plate. In this study, composite stiffened panels reinforced by carbon and/or E-glass fibres are modelled by finite element analysis (FEA) using Ansys. Nonlinear structural analysis is employed to find the critical buckling load. Three different skin layups, i.e., [45°/−45°/90°/0°]S, [90°/0°/90°/0°]S, and [60°/−30°/90°/0°]S, are studied. For each ply angle combination, different ply material combinations are studied. The cost and weight of each combination formed by applying different ply materials to the skin and stiffeners are studied. The results show that hybrid reinforcement in the stiffened panels reduces costs and maintains high buckling loads. Carbon/epoxy composites as the outer layers also reduce costs and maintain acceptable buckling loads without compromising the overall performance. In this study, we investigated toroidal shell wrinkling in free hydroforming. We specifically focused on toroidal shells with a regular hexagonal cross-section. Membrane theory was used to examine the distribution of stress and yield load in both preform and toroidal shells. The wrinkling moment was then predicted using an empirical formula of shell buckling. In addition, the wrinkling state was investigated using a general statics method, and the free hydroforming of toroidal shells was simulated using the Riks method. Subsequently, nonlinear buckling and equilibrium paths were analyzed. A toroidal preform was manufactured, and free hydroforming experiments were conducted. Overall, the experimental results confirmed the accuracy of the theoretical predictions and numerical simulations. This indicates that the prediction method used in the study was effective. We also found that wrinkling occurs during hydroforming in the inner region of toroidal shells due to compressive stress. Consequently, we improved the structure of the toroidal shells and performed analytical calculations and numerical simulations for the analysis. Our results indicate that wrinkling can be eliminated by increasing the number of segments on the inner side of toroidal preforms, thereby improving the quality of toroidal shells. Cargo ships with wide hatches usually have thin walls and limited torsional rigidity. Consequently, conducting a comprehensive torsional analysis is important because these loads can exert a significant impact. In this paper, the structural response of a multipurpose cargo ship to combined bending and torsional loads is studied using finite element analysis. The bending and torsional moments are calculated following the rules and standard regulations followed by the classification society. The ship's 3D finite element model was verified using beam theory and direct calculations. In contrast, the accuracy of torsional stress was confirmed by comparing thin wall girder theory with direct calculation results. This study thoroughly examined the impacts of the still water bending moment, the vertical wave bending moment, and the wave-induced torsional moment on the structural response of ships. Furthermore, it scrutinised the impact of torsion on both open-deck and closed-deck ships. Hull girder normal stresses at midship due to still water and the vertical wave bending moment are shown to contribute to almost 70% of total stress in an inclined condition; stresses resulting from the horizontal wave bending moment contribute nearly 10%, while warping stresses contribute approximately 20% in open-deck ships. It is also shown that torsion has little impact on closed-deck ships. The fused deposition modeling (FDM) process, an extrusion-based 3D printing technology, enables the manufacture of complex geometrical elements. This technology employs diverse materials, including thermoplastic polymers and composites as well as recycled resins to encourage sustainable growth. FDM is used in a variety of industrial fields, including automotive, biomedical, and textiles, as a rapid prototyping method to reduce costs and shorten production time, or to develop items with detailed designs and high precision. The main phases of this technology include the feeding of solid filament into a molten chamber, capillary flow of a non-Newtonian fluid through a nozzle, layer deposition on the support base, and layer-to-layer adhesion. The viscoelastic properties of processed materials are essential in each of the FDM steps: (i) predicting the printability of the melted material during FDM extrusion and ensuring a continuous flow across the nozzle; (ii) controlling the deposition process of the molten filament on the print bed and avoiding fast material leakage and loss of precision in the molded part; and (iii) ensuring layer adhesion in the subsequent consolidation phase. A new utilization of entropy in the context of buckling is presented. The novel concept of connecting the strain energy and entropy for a pin-ended strut is derived. The entropy of the buckling mode is extracted through a surrogate model by decomposing the strain energy into entropy and virtual temperature. This concept rationalizes the ranking of buckling modes based on their strain energy under the assumption of given entropy. By assigning identical entropy to all buckling modes, they can be ranked according to their deformation energy. Conversely, with identical strain energy assigned to all the modes, ranking according to entropy is possible. Decreasing entropy was found to represent the scaling factors of the buckling modes that coincide with the measurement of the initial out-of-straightness imperfections in IPE160 beams. Applied to steel plane frames, scaled buckling modes can be used to model initial imperfections. It is demonstrated that the entropy (scale factor) for a given energy roughly decreases with the inverse square of the mode index. For practical engineering, this study presents the possibility of using scaled buckling modes of steel plane frames to model initial geometric imperfections. Testing shear-resisting plates in steel connections is one of the most challenging laboratory undertakings in steel construction, as the most common experimental layout design includes simulating the connection with its adjoining members. This significant hindrance gained particular magnitude as the need to test prototypes of topologically optimised shear cover plates became more pressing. Indeed, new code-compliant topology optimisation approaches for steel construction have recently been offered, and physically non-linear analyses have been demonstrated to be vital for assessing these elements. Hence, a rapid and reliable experimental process has become a fundamental necessity. To answer this need, a novel layout is herein proposed, in which topologically optimised and previously numerically examined bolted shear plates of a well-known steel joint were tested. The results allowed for the definition of the material trilinear model for use in subsequent numerical analysis, as well as the validation of the numerical simulation results. The fully transparent cabin used in a manned submersible is typically made of the viscoelastic material polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). The pressure-bearing capacity of a PMMA-manned cabin was investigated considering the effects of initial geometrical imperfections and large openings. Three types of cabins were studied within the failure mode of nonlinear buckling, including an intact spherical cabin, a spherical cabin with a single opening, and a spherical cabin with double openings. The initial geometrical imperfection ranges from 0.1% to 0.5% of the inner diameter. The ultimate strength decreasing tendency for the different types of cabins with increasing initial imperfection was obtained and the thickness of the hatch cover determined based on the principle of equivalence differed its effects on the strength of the cabin. The influence of the hatch cover stiffness was not linear and indicated the necessity of exploring the coordinated design between the PMMA shell and the metal hatch cover for the transparent cabin. The purpose of this research was the analysis of the stability of compressed thin-walled composite columns with closed rectangular cross-sections, subjected to axial load. The test specimens (made of carbon–epoxy composite) were characterized by different lay-ups of the composite material. Experimental tests were carried out using a universal testing machine and other interdisciplinary testing techniques, such as an optical strain measurement system. Simultaneously with the experimental studies, numerical simulations were carried out using the finite element method. In the case of FEA simulations, original numerical models were derived. In the case of both experimental research and FEM simulations, an in-depth investigation of buckling states was carried out. The measurable effect of the research was to determine both the influence of the cross-sectional shape and the lay-up of the composite layers on the stability of the structure. The novelty of the present paper is the use of interdisciplinary research techniques in order to determine the critical state of compressed thin-walled composite structures with closed sections. Although elliptical tubes are stronger and more stable than circular tubes, few studies have fully considered the behavior of elliptical tubes under cyclic bending loads. This study experimentally investigated the response and failure of SUS304 stainless steel elliptical tubes with four different ratios of long and short axes (1.5, 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0) under cyclic bending along four different orientation angles (0°, 30°, 60°, and 90°). The wall thickness was 0.7 mm, and cyclic bending was applied until buckling failure occurred. The moment–curvature curves exhibited cyclic hardening, and stable loops were formed for all long–short axis ratios and orientation angles. Increasing the long–short axis ratio slightly decreased the peak bending moment while increasing the orientation angle increased the peak bending moment. For a given orientation angle, the curves relating the short-axis variation (i.e., change in length divided by the original length of the short axis) and curvature demonstrated symmetry, serrations, and a growth pattern as the number of cycles increased regardless of the long–short axis ratio. At long–short axis ratios of 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0, these curves even exhibited a butterfly-like trend. Increasing the long–short axis ratio increased the short-axis variation, while increasing the orientation angle decreased the short-axis variation. Regarding the curves relating the curvature and number of cycles required to initiate buckling, for each orientation angle, the four long–short axis ratios corresponded to four straight lines when plotted on double-logarithmic co-ordinates. Based on the experimental results, empirical equations are proposed to describe the above relationships. This study introduces an approach for modeling an arm of a Stewart platform to analyze the location of sections with a high deflection among the arms. Given the dynamic nature of the Stewart platform, its arms experience static and dynamic loads. The static loads originate from the platform's own weight components, while the dynamic loads arise from the movement or holding of equipment in a specific position using the end-effector. These loads are distributed among the platform arms. The arm encompasses various design categories, including spring-mass, spring-mass-damper, mass-actuator, and spring-mass-actuator. In accordance with these designs, joint points should be strategically placed away from critical sections where maximum buckling or deformation is prominent. The current study presents a novel model employing Euler's formula, a fundamental concept in buckling analysis, to propose this approach. The results align with experimental and numerical reports in the literature that prove the internal force of the platform arm is affecting the arm stiffness. The equal stiffness of an arm is related to its internal force and its deflection. The study demonstrates how higher levels of dynamic loading influence the dynamic platform, causing variations in the maximum arm's buckling deflection, its precise location, and the associated deflection slope. Notably, in platform arms capable of adjusting their tilt angles relative to the vertical axis, the angle of inclination directly correlates with deflection and its gradient. This article presents the fire Smith method, which integrates the plate model and the Smith method, to analyze the impact of fire temperature and extent on the buckling strength of frigates. This investigation focused on the frigate's buckling strength and how it is affected by a fire, achieved by modifying both deck temperature and area. Leveraging the principle of oxygen consumption, a coefficient "D" was introduced to account for fire temperature and region variations. This enabled the characterization of buckling strength under varying temperature and regional conditions through 64 simulations conducted on a frigate model. The outcomes revealed that the disparity between simulation results and the fire Smith method remained below 10%, establishing a solid basis for engineering assessment. As the high-temperature area decreased and necessitated less oxygen, the ultimate strength initiated a decline. However, upon reaching a certain threshold temperature, the ultimate strength stabilized. Conversely, expansive high-temperature zones caused a decline in ultimate strength, coupled with an increased oxygen requirement. Under consistent oxygen consumption conditions, the rate of ultimate strength reduction intensified. Consequently, these divergent characteristics of ultimate strength in various high-temperature areas underscored that minimizing the expansive fire high-temperature zones can significantly enhance the ship's fire resistance, safeguarding its structural integrity. The present paper investigates the mechanical behavior of buried steel pipelines crossing an active fault. Permanent ground deformation induced by an earthquake will cause serious damage to buried steel pipelines, resulting in buckling failure or even cracking damage to pipelines. Based on ABAQUS software, version 6.13., the model of an interacting soil–pipeline system is established, accounting for large strains and displacements and nonlinear material behavior, as well as contact and friction at the soil–pipeline interface. Numerical analysis is conducted through the incremental application of fault displacement. Combined with the force and deformation characteristics of buried pipelines, a strain-based design criterion is chosen to study the vertical displacement, axial compressive, and tensile strain of buried pipelines, etc. This paper focuses on the effects of horizontal fault displacement, fault type, and fault angle on the structural response of the pipe. The failure of the pipeline, such as wall wrinkling, local buckling, or rupture is identified. Furthermore, the effects of the pipeline internal pressure and pipe wall thickness are investigated. The results show that, when the pipeline depth is 1.5 m under the action of the fault, the buried pipeline will not be subject to beam buckling damage, and both tensile damage and shell buckling damage will occur. In this case, the critical displacement of the tensile failure is more than three times that of the shell buckling failure, which indicates that shell buckling damage is a greater threat to the pipeline. The pipeline is most susceptible to damage under the action of a strike-slip reverse fault. When the fault angle is equal to 45 degrees, the pipeline is more likely to be damaged, while it is relatively safe at a fault angle with 90 degrees. In the field of engineering materials, lightweight and ultra-lightweight composites are used in real time to a greater extent, with high-performance targeting for tailor-made systems in aerospace, automotive, and biomedical applications. Sandwich composites are among the most popular lightweight materials used in structural and vehicle-building applications. In the present investigation, one such sandwich composite laminate composed of aluminum face sheets and a high-density polyethylene core was considered to analyze sandwich composites' flexural and buckling behavior experimentally and numerically. The influence of aspect ratios, such as length to thickness and width to thickness, on the flexural and buckling performance of sandwich composite laminates was explored in the study. Laminates with different widths, namely, 10, 12, and 15 mm, and a uniform thickness and length of 3 mm and 150 mm, respectively, were used for flexural analysis, whereas laminates with widths of 10, 12, and 15 mm and a uniform thickness and length of 3 mm and 350 mm, respectively, were used for buckling analysis. The geometrical influence of the laminates on mechanical performance was studied through performance measures such as critical bending load, flexural stiffness, inter-laminar shear stress, and critical buckling load. A significant influence of aspect ratio on the mechanical behavior of the laminates was observed using both experimental and numerical approaches. Flexural behavior was observed to be better at greater widths, namely, 15 mm, and with a minimum support span of 90 mm due to reduced spring back effects and increased bending resistance. A maximum width of 15 mm allowed for a higher buckling load capacity similar to that of bending resistance. A critical buckling load of 655.8 N seemed to be the maximum and was obtained for the highest aspect ratio, b/t = 5. The soft core and ductile metal face sheets offered combined resistance to both bending and buckling. The use of nonmetallic reinforcement in concrete aims at the decrease in material consumption by reducing the component sizes when compared to conventional reinforced concrete structures, which inherently results in very filigree structures. Although intensive basic research has been carried out on textile-reinforced concrete for about 30 years, the subject of stability behavior has hardly been investigated so far. This study focuses the fundamental understanding of the structural behavior of slender carbon-reinforced concrete (CRC) structures subjected to axial compression. Therefore, buckling experiments have been carried out in order to quantify the influence of two parameters: the slenderness ratio of the specimens (varying between 60 and 130) and the load eccentricity (0, 2, and 4 mm). The results of the specimens that were tested with the initial load eccentricities revealed a good overall agreement with those obtained by a second-order theory approach throughout all of the investigated slenderness ratios. For the centrally pressed samples that featured high slenderness ratios, the failure stresses could successfully be predicted with Euler's buckling formula, whereas this theory overestimated the results of the specimens with intermediate to low slenderness ratios due to the plastic buckling phenomenon. This article investigates the impact of temperature regimes, corresponding to various climatic zones, on the manufacturing process and operation of beverage can ends made of aluminum alloy AA5182. The production process of aluminum beverage can ends involves multiple steps, including melting, rolling, and stamping, where different temperatures can influence both the production process and the properties of the final product. Furthermore, the mechanical behavior of the final product is affected by the aging process of alloy AA5182, which progresses at varying rates depending on the temperature conditions during storage. The objective of this study is to simulate the production process under various climatic conditions using the finite element method (FEM) and experimentally investigate the dependence of the strength of alloy AA5182 can ends on storage time and temperature. The findings of the study reveal that, under temperature conditions corresponding to warmer climates, the punching force can be reduced by approximately 15% compared to production in colder climates. Additionally, the strength of the finished can exhibits a decrease of about 10% during a month of storage in a warm climate, while no significant decrease was observed in colder climates. Given their considerable specific surface area and amorphous characteristics, nanoparticles exhibit excellent pozzolanic activity, and when undergoing a reaction with calcium hydroxide, this leads to the generation of a denser matrix by promoting the formation of a greater amount of C-S-H gel, thereby enhancing the strength and durability of the concrete and fortifying the overall structure. Indeed, the present study investigates a comparative study of the buckling and free vibration analyses of concrete beams reinforced with various types of nanoparticles. For its simplicity and accuracy, a higher-order shear deformation theory will be used to analytically model the reinforced concrete beam. Furthermore, the powerful Eshelby's model is used to derive the equivalent nanocomposite properties. The soil medium is simulated with Pasternak elastic foundation, including a shear layer, and Winkler's spring, interlinked with a Kerr foundation. The motion equations are derived using Hamilton's principle. Moreover, based on Navier's analytical methods, the closed-form solutions of simply supported beams have been obtained. Different parameters, such as type and volume percent of nanoparticles, geometrical parameters, choice of theory and soil medium, on the buckling and dynamic behavior of the beam, are exercised and shown. The major findings of this work indicate that the use of nanoparticles in concretes increases better mechanical resistance and amplifies the natural frequencies. Periodic elastic metamaterials (EMMs) display the capability to forbid the transmission of elastic waves for certain frequency ranges, leading to band gaps. If topology optimization strategies are exploited to tune the band gaps of EMMs, the said band gaps cannot be modified in real-time. This limitation can be overcome by allowing for active materials in the design of EMMs. In this work, a hyperelastic piezoelectric composite was considered to assess the coupled effects of material and geometric nonlinearities on the behavior of sculptured microstructures featuring a three-dimensional periodicity. Specifically, it was assumed that the composite material is obtained by embedding piezo nanoparticles into a soft polymeric matrix. In this way, piezoelectricity and instability-induced pattern transformation could be fully exploited to actively tune the band gaps. A thermodynamically consistent multi-physics model for the active composite material is discussed and implemented in a general-purpose finite-element code. A thin-walled steel cylindrical shell is a common engineering structure that has an efficient load-carrying capacity. This structure is more easily subjected to partial axial compression loads in application, and buckling is the main failure mode. However, there are few available design methods for partial axially compressed steel cylindrical shells. Motivated by this, a design method called the localized perturbation load approach (LPLA) is proposed in this paper. The finite element framework for the application of LPLA is established. The location and number of perturbation loads are determined by considering the imperfection sensitivity and the buckling failure mode of partial axial compressed cylinders. A series of buckling experiments are carried out to validate the LPLA method. In addition, the reliability of LPLA for the design of cylindrical shells with different imperfection locations and dimensions is also verified. The results show that LPLA can give conservative and reliable lower-bound buckling loads. The high strength and stiffness-to-weight ratios of structural steel often result in relatively slender members and systems, which are governed to a great extent by stability limit states. However, predicting the stability of slender structures is difficult due to various inherent uncertainties in material and geometry. Generally, structural and member stabilities are nonlinear problems that cannot be directly evaluated based on the section strength using conventional analysis method. Nonlinear behaviors are basically categorized as materially and geometrically nonlinear, which can be observed at the cross-sectional, member, and frame levels. To provide a comprehensive understanding of the current state-of-the-art non-linear behavior and design of steel structures and to identify key areas for future research and development, this paper presents a review on the materially and geometrically nonlinear effects of steel structures. A discussion of the effects of material yielding accentuated by the presence of residual stresses, initial imperfections, and end conditions will be conducted. The stiffness reduction due to second-order effects and material yielding will be illustrated. Moreover, current and emerging design approaches that consider nonlinear responses will also be reviewed and evaluated. Lastly, with the development of modern flexible and complex steel structures, which sometimes violate fundamental assumptions of the current stability design method, the application of advanced analysis and design methods will be explored. This paper presents a 3D direct numerical simulation of buckled thin-film packaging based on transferred elastic thin-film wrinkling bonded on a compliant polymer ring. The mode change of the fabricated thin-film cap is found by measuring the thin-film cap shape at different times after Si substrate debonding. The conventional linear and nonlinear buckling simulations are not adequate to understand the behavior of the thin-film buckling mechanism creating such packaging cap mode change. Direct buckling simulation is recently reported as an easy and useful numerical wrinkling simulation method. A novel 3D FEM model of a thin-film package suitable for direct 3D buckling simulation is built to reduce the mode mixture between different buckling modes. Buckling modes of the packaging cap are investigated in terms of elastic moduli of package materials and applied strain due to thermal expansion coefficient difference. Based on the simulation results, it is found that there are two main modes in the fabricated thin-film buckling package determining the shape of the transferred thin-film packaging cover depending on the elasticity ratio between the cap and sealing ring materials. This paper investigates experimentally the structural performance of substandard reinforced concrete (RC) short columns confined with steel-reinforced grout (SRG) jackets under monotonically increasing uniaxial compression. The study comprised 24 square cross section short RC columns having alternative arrangements of shear reinforcement (ratio of stirrup spacing to longitudinal bar diameter ranging from 4.2 to 12.5). The short columns were retrofitted with externally applied SRG jacketing differing by the density of the fabric (4 cords/in and 12 cords/in) and the number of fabric layers (1 and 2). The test results showed that retrofitting significantly changed the behaviour of the specimens compared to the unconfined counterparts. For columns at risk of premature failure due to insufficient support of compression bars provided by the sparse stirrups, the SRG jackets delayed bar buckling, enabling the members to achieve greater strength and deformation capacity. An energy-based solution for calculating the buckling loads of partially anisotropic stiffened plates is presented, such as antisymmetric cross-ply and angle-ply laminations. A discrete approach, for the mathematical modelling and formulations of the stiffened plates, is followed. The developed formulations extend the Rayleigh–Ritz method and explore the available anisotropic unstiffened plate buckling solutions to the interesting cases of stiffened plates with some degree of material anisotropy. The examined cases consider simply supported unstiffened and stiffened plates under uniform and linearly varying compressive loading. Additionally, a reference finite element (FE) model is developed to compare the calculated buckling loads and validate the modelling approach for its accuracy. The results of the developed method are also compared with the respective experimental results for the cases where they were available in the literature. Finally, an extended discussion regarding the assumptions and restrictions of the applied Rayleigh–Ritz method is made, so that the limitations of the developed method are identified and documented. The buckling enhancement of the negative Poisson's ratio (NPR) effect on a laminated plate under uniaxial compression with an in-plane translational restraint is investigated in this paper. According to the buckling equation of an orthotropic plate under biaxial compression, the critical buckling load of an NPR-laminated composite under uniaxial compression can be increased due to the induced tension force on the unloaded direction. Instead of layer angles and stacking sequence, the NPR envelope and buckling load enhancement are studied using lamination parameters in this paper. The Poisson's ratio contours are given in the feasible region of membrane lamination parameters. The results show that the negative Poisson's ratios are more sensitive to V 3 A , which represents the unbalance degree of the laminate. Furthermore, the buckling loads for various Poisson's ratio layups are investigated, and it is concluded that the buckling load increases with a decrease in Poisson's ratio for the laminated rectangular plate considering in-plane translational restraint. The present paper aims to investigate the buckling load of functionally graded carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (FG-CFRP) composite laminated plates under in-plane loads in a thermal environment. The effective material properties of the CFRP composite are calculated by the Mori–Tanaka homogenization method. The theoretical formulations are based on classical laminate plate theory (CLPT) and the von Kármán equations for large deflections. The governing equations are derived based on the principle of virtual work and then solved through the Navier solution. Results are obtained for the critical buckling load and temperature effect of a simply supported plate subjected to in-plane loading. A detailed numerical study is conducted to provide important insights into the effects of the functionally graded carbon fiber (CF) distribution pattern and volume fraction, total number of layers, temperature, geometrical dimension and lamination angle on the buckling load of functionally carbon-fiber-reinforced composite plates.
