As a key guarantee and cornerstone of building quality, the importance of deformation prediction for deep foundation pits cannot be ignored. However, the deformation data of deep foundation pits have the characteristics of nonlinearity and instability, which will increase the difficulty of deformation prediction. In response to this characteristic and the difficulty of traditional deformation prediction methods to excavate the correlation between data of different time spans, the advantages of variational mode decomposition (VMD) in processing non-stationary series and a gated cycle unit (GRU) in processing complex time series data are considered. A predictive model combining particle swarm optimization (PSO), variational mode decomposition, and a gated cyclic unit is proposed. Firstly, the VMD optimized by the PSO algorithm was used to decompose the original data and obtain the Internet Message Format (IMF). Secondly, the GRU model optimized by PSO was used to predict each IMF. Finally, the predicted value of each component was summed with equal weight to obtain the final predicted value. The case study results show that the average absolute errors of the PSO-GRU prediction model on the original sequence, EMD decomposition, and VMD decomposition data are 0.502 mm, 0.462 mm, and 0.127 mm, respectively. Compared with the prediction mean square errors of the LSTM, GRU, and PSO-LSTM prediction models, the PSO-GRU on the PTB0 data of VMD decomposition decreased by 62.76%, 75.99%, and 53.14%, respectively. The PTB04 data decreased by 70%, 85.17%, and 69.36%, respectively. In addition, compared to the PSO-LSTM model, it decreased by 8.57% in terms of the model time. When the prediction step size increased from three stages to five stages, the mean errors of the four prediction models on the original data, EMD decomposed data, and VMD decomposed data increased by 28.17%, 3.44%, and 14.24%, respectively. The data decomposed by VMD are more conducive to model prediction and can effectively improve the accuracy of model prediction. An increase in the prediction step size will reduce the accuracy of the deformation prediction. The PSO-VMD-GRU model constructed has the advantages of reliable accuracy and a wide application range, and can effectively guide the construction of foundation pit engineering. It is demonstrated that the application of piezoelectric sensors to metallic bars and strands can enable determining the status of the integrity of these elements through the spectrum of their acoustic excitations. The voltage output of the piezo, secured to metal bars or strands, is fed to the input of a Fast Fourier Transform analyzer, which allows displaying the spectrum of the excitations from which information on the length, overall quality of the metal, and the presence of defects can be obtained. We show that the analysis, performed on several materials and strands of different lengths, could be useful for cases in which visible inspection and/or direct access to the entire body of the metallic elements is not possible. This paper assesses trending AI foundation models, especially emerging computer vision foundation models and their performance in natural landscape feature segmentation. While the term foundation model has quickly garnered interest from the geospatial domain, its definition remains vague. Hence, this paper will first introduce AI foundation models and their defining characteristics. Built upon the tremendous success achieved by Large Language Models (LLMs) as the foundation models for language tasks, this paper discusses the challenges of building foundation models for geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI) vision tasks. To evaluate the performance of large AI vision models, especially Meta's Segment Anything Model (SAM), we implemented different instance segmentation pipelines that minimize the changes to SAM to leverage its power as a foundation model. A series of prompt strategies were developed to test SAM's performance regarding its theoretical upper bound of predictive accuracy, zero-shot performance, and domain adaptability through fine-tuning. The analysis used two permafrost feature datasets, ice-wedge polygons and retrogressive thaw slumps because (1) these landform features are more challenging to segment than man-made features due to their complicated formation mechanisms, diverse forms, and vague boundaries; (2) their presence and changes are important indicators for Arctic warming and climate change. The results show that although promising, SAM still has room for improvement to support AI-augmented terrain mapping. The spatial and domain generalizability of this finding is further validated using a more general dataset EuroCrops for agricultural field mapping. To study the applicability of the new geopolymer grouting material for super-long and large-diameter post-grouting bored piles in silty fine sand geology, this paper compares the bearing capacity of two grouting materials, geopolymer and normal Portland cement, and different grouting volume pile side-distributed grouting piles in silty fine sand based on field model tests are analyzed through the diffusion forms of the two materials in silty fine sand through the morphology of the grouted body after excavation. The results show that the ultimate bearing capacities of P0 (ungrouted pile), P1 (8 kg cement grouted pile), P2 (6 kg geopolymer-grouted pile), P3 (8 kg geopolymer-grouted pile) and P4 (10 kg geopolymer-grouted pile) are 5400 N, 8820 N, 9450 N, 11,700 N and 12,600 N, respectively, and that the ultimate bearing capacity of the grouted pile is improved compared with that of the ungrouted pile since, under the same grouting amount, the maximum bearing capacity of the pile using geopolymer grouting is increased by 133% compared with that of the pile with cement grouting. This further verifies the applicability of the geopolymer grouting material for the post-grouting of the pile foundation in silty fine sand. Under the action of the ultimate load, the pile side friction resistance of P1, P2, P3 and P4 is increased by 200%, 218%, 284% and 319% compared with that of P0. In addition, the excavation results show that the geopolymer post-grouting pile forms the ellipsoidal consolidation body at the pile side grouting location, which mainly comprises extrusion diffusion with a small amount of infiltration diffusion, and the cement grouting pile forms a sheet-like consolidation body at the lower grouting location, which primarily comprises split diffusion. In view of the complexity of the pile foundation underpinning structure system and the stringent requirements of the construction process, this paper briefly describes the necessity of introducing epoxy resin reinforcing adhesive of planting rebar in the design of pile foundation underpinning beam structure to improve the mechanical properties of the reinforced beam new and old concrete joint surfaces and proposes a new type of pile foundation replacement beam system construction method by "chiseling + prestressed reinforcement + epoxy resin reinforcing adhesive". This paper uses an actual pile foundation underpinning project of an urban overpass as a prototype, designs and creates a model structure with a similarity ratio of 1/6, and performs repeated progressive static loading tests to study the load carrying capacity, displacement change, and other properties of the strengthened replacement structure, as well as analyses and distorts the overall working performance and failure mode of them. On this basis, the prototype structure's finite element analysis model was built, and the finite element analysis results were compared with the test results to obtain the mechanical properties and deformation characters of the actual pile foundation underpinning structure system corresponding to the actual underpinning beam load. On 6 February 2023, East Anatolia was devastated by two major earthquakes resulting in hundreds of thousands of collapses and tens of thousands of human casualties. This paper investigates the factors related to building properties and earthquake environmental effects (EEEs) that contributed to the building damage grade and distribution in southeastern Turkey. In regards to the building construction properties, the loose enforcement of the building code, the random urban planning solutions and the poor construction standards are the main construction deficiencies that led to one of the largest disasters in Turkey's recent history. Regarding geological factors, the triggering of primary and secondary EEEs largely shaped the grade and distribution of damage. Where coseismic surface ruptures intersected with the built environment, heavy to very heavy structural damage was observed. This was evident in many cases along the ruptured segments of the East Anatolian Fault Zone (EAFZ). Liquefaction observed close to waterbodies caused damage typical of building foundation load-bearing capacity loss. The earthquake-triggered landslides affected mainly mountainous and semi-mountainous settlements characterized with pre-earthquake high related susceptibility. The high susceptibility to generation of EEEs was extensively confirmed in many cases resulting in extensive damage. There were reported increases in negative emotions such as boredom and loneliness during lockdown; simultaneously, there was a notable increase in new users and activity on online dating platforms (ODPs). While motivations for using ODPs vary widely, there is limited understanding for users' motivations to engage with ODPs in a time when restrictions were in place. To explore users' motivations and the impact COVID-19 had on their online dating experiences during the pandemic semi-structured interviews (N = 12) were conducted in the UK during December 2020–July 2021. Data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Motivations for using ODPs during the pandemic included addressing negative emotions such as loneliness, but, crucially, they became a necessity for meeting new people and making romantic and non-romantic connections in a time of social isolation. Lockdowns had negative effects on creating and sustaining online connections; however, where online connections were made, lockdowns restricted contact through social distancing and tier systems, limiting the ability to progress a relationship by moving it offline. Online interactions provided a relationship building foundation; however, there was ultimately a need to move the interaction offline in order for the relationship to develop. Findings related to motivations fit with prior literature; however, there was a shift in priorities, with importance being placed on online spaces to meet social needs that were limited due to the pandemic. Low-density reef limestone is widely distributed in tropical oceans; exploring its mechanical properties is of significance to practices in marine foundation engineering. In this research, laboratory experiments on low-density reef limestones with two different types of porous structures were conducted using image recognition methods to study the special mechanical properties of low-reef limestone. S ¯ was defined as the parameter quantifying the pore geometry, and the calculation method of S ¯ was optimized based on image recognition data. Finally, the influencing factors of uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of low-density reef limestone were analyzed, and a modified formula considering pore structure was proposed. The results indicate the following: Image recognition methods were used to determine feasibility and convenience of capturing 2D pore geometric information of specimens. The optimization method of S ¯ is conducive to improving automatic image recognition accuracy. Low-density reef limestones with different porous structures show small difference in porosity and density, while they exhibit large differences in pore sizes and UCS. The UCS of low-density reef limestone is found to be jointly influenced by pore structure and density (it increases with the decrease in parameter S ¯ and increase in density). This study presents a comparison of the protective properties of three concretes of similar composition on the effect of chloride ions. To determine these properties, the values of the diffusion and migration coefficients of chloride ions in concrete were determined using both standard methods and the thermodynamic ion migration model. We tested a comprehensive method for checking the protective properties of concrete against chlorides. This method can not only be used in various concretes, even those with only small differences in composition, but also in concretes with various types of admixtures and additives, such as PVA fibers. The research was carried out to address the needs of a manufacturer of prefabricated concrete foundations. The aim was to find a cheap and effective method of sealing the concrete produced by the manufacturer in order to carry out projects in coastal areas. Earlier diffusion studies showed good performance when replacing ordinary CEM I cement with metallurgical cement. The corrosion rates of the reinforcing steel in these concretes were also compared using the following electrochemical methods: linear polarization and impedance spectroscopy. The porosities of these concretes, determined using X-ray computed tomography for pore-related characterization, were also compared. Changes in the phase composition of corrosion products occurring in the steel–concrete contact zone were compared using scanning electron microscopy with a micro-area chemical analysis capability, in addition to X-ray microdiffraction, to study the microstructure changes. Concrete with CEM III cement was the most resistant to chloride ingress and therefore provided the longest period of protection against chloride-initiated corrosion. The least resistant was concrete with CEM I, for which, after two 7-day cycles of chloride migration in the electric field, steel corrosion started. The additional use of a sealing admixture can cause a local increase in the volume of pores in the concrete, and at the same time, a local weakening of the concrete structure. Concrete with CEM I was characterized as having the highest porosity at 140.537 pores, whereas concrete with CEM III (characterized by lower porosity) had 123.015 pores. Concrete with sealing admixture, with the same open porosity, had the highest number of pores, at 174.880. According to the findings of this study, and using a computed tomography method, concrete with CEM III showed the most uniform distribution of pores of different volumes, and had the lowest total number of pores. The application of aseismic materials in foundation engineering structures is an inevitable trend and research hotspot of earthquake resistance, especially in tunnel engineering. In this study, the pelican optimization algorithm (POA) is improved using the Latin hypercube sampling (LHS) method and the Chaotic mapping (CM) method to optimize the random forest (RF) model for predicting the aseismic performance of a novel aseismic rubber-concrete material. Seventy uniaxial compression tests and seventy impact tests were conducted to quantify this aseismic material performance, i.e., strength and energy absorption properties and four other artificial intelligence models were generated to compare the predictive performance with the proposed hybrid RF models. The performance evaluation results showed that the LHSPOA-RF model has the best prediction performance among all the models for predicting the strength and energy absorption property of this novel aseismic concrete material in both the training and testing phases (R2: 0.9800 and 0.9108, VAF: 98.0005% and 91.0880%, RMSE: 0.7057 and 1.9128, MAE: 0.4461 and 0.7364; R2: 0.9857 and 0.9065, VAF: 98.5909% and 91.3652%, RMSE: 0.5781 and 1.8814, MAE: 0.4233 and 0.9913). In addition, the sensitive analysis results indicated that the rubber and cement are the most important parameters for predicting the strength and energy absorption properties, respectively. Accordingly, the improved POA-RF model not only is proven as an effective method to predict the strength and energy absorption properties of aseismic materials, but also this hybrid model provides a new idea for assessing other aseismic performances in the field of tunnel engineering. The seismic sensors used for automatic seismic trip systems (ASTS) of nuclear power plants (NPPs) are mainly arranged on the raft foundation of reactor buildings; however, the arrangement principle of seismic sensors is not clear. In order to analyze the seismic response sensitivity of the raft foundation of reactor building in NPPs, this paper carried out the seismic response sensitivity research at seven positions on the raft foundation of a reactor building under three site conditions, with two sets of time histories as input. The results show that (1) the peak acceleration of the outer ring point of the raft foundation was the largest, and the peak acceleration of the center point was the smallest; (2) the peak value of the floor response spectrum at the outer ring point of the raft foundation was the largest, and the peak value at the center point was the smallest. In an earthquake, the outer ring point of the raft foundation of the reactor building was the most sensitive. It was suggested that the seismic sensors used for ASTS should be arranged at the outer ring of the raft foundation NPP reactor building, and the shutdown threshold shall be calculated according to site conditions and structural characteristics. Vibrating technological equipment for the introduction of piles and columns into the ground of construction foundations (named vibratory piling machines) is crucial in the process of building stable and resilient foundations for civil engineering, hydrotechnical construction, special construction (e.g., military constructions), bridges, roads and industrial platforms. During the works carried out by the construction companies in various geographical areas of Romania, particularities of the dynamic technological regimes influenced by the nature of the land were identified at the deep introduction of the construction elements in the form of piles or circular (tubular) columns. The results of applied research, rheological modeling and optimization of vibrating equipment, highlight the need for an analytical approach that takes into account the parametric variations of the elastic and damping characteristics of some categories of soils on the depth of piles or foundation columns. In this context, the paper presents the calculation model with the dynamic response for the vibrating equipment of insertion with disturbing forces of 200–1250 kN for piles or columns with lengths of 10–30 m. The novelty of the research study consists in the linear rheological model, which was adopted in the form of a Maxwell–Voigt–Kelvin schematic of the type (E-V)–(E|V), with a discrete variation in four values for stiffness and damping of the soil, as the piles or columns vibrate and advance in the ground foundation. Practical experience of the authors in the field of using vibrogenerators for the introduction of piles in various types of ground foundations led to the adoption of the rheological model with variable damping coefficients depending on the depth of penetration into the soil. Onshore wind turbine foundations are generally over-engineered as their internal stress states are challenging to directly monitor during operation. While there are industry drivers to shift towards more economical foundation designs, making this transition safely will require new monitoring techniques, so that the uncertainties around structural health can be reduced. This paper presents the initial results of a real-time strain monitoring campaign for an operating wind turbine foundation. Selected reinforcement bars were instrumented with metal packaged optical fibre strain sensors prior to concrete casting. In this paper, we outline the sensors' design, characterisation and installation, and present 67 days of operational data. During this time, measured foundation strains did not exceed 95 μϵ, and showed a strong correlation with both measured tower displacements and the results of a foundation finite element model. The work demonstrates that real-time foundation monitoring is not only achievable, but that it has the potential to help operators and policymakers quantify the conservatism of their existing design codes. This paper presents a study on the load carrying capacity of reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened with externally bonded (EB) carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) strips prestressed up to 0.6% in strain. At the strip ends, the innovative gradient anchorage is used instead of conventional mechanical fasteners. This method, based on the epoxy resin's ability to rapidly cure under high temperatures, foresees a sector-wise heating followed by a gradual decrease of the initial prestress force towards the strip ends. The experimental investigation shows a promising structural behavior, resulting in high strip tensile strains, eventually almost reaching tensile failure of the composite strip. Additionally, ductility when considering deflection at steel yielding and at ultimate load is satisfying, too. From a practical point of view, it is demonstrated that premature strip grinding in the anchorage zone is not beneficial. In addition, a non-commercial 1D finite element code has been enlarged to an EB reinforcement with prestressed composite strips. A bilinear bond stress-slip relation obtained in earlier investigations is introduced as an additional failure criterion to the code. The numerical code is able to almost perfectly predict the overall structural behavior. Furthermore, the calculations are used for comparison purposes between an initially unstressed and a prestressed externally bonded composite reinforcement. A Passive House (PH) system is not only an opportunity but also a necessity for the further development of sustainable eco-buildings. Construction of the foundation in energy-efficient houses is the key to maintaining low energy losses. The appropriate selection of building materials requires considering the thermal conditions of the environment, including its location and the zero isotherms in the ground. The main objective of this work is to analyze the possibilities of designing foundations for PHs in Poland, according to the current methodological data. In order to realize the basic aims, the work was divided into the following materials and methods: (I) literature review; (II) database of PH in Central Europe; (III) method of depth of ground freezing determination; (IV) selection of the joint of slab-on-ground foundation and external wall to analysis; (V) description and validation of the heat-transfer model. The result of the research work is: (i) analysis of the foundation under the conditions of freezing of the ground in Poland; (ii) description and validation of the heat-transfer model. The research has revealed that in the Polish climate zone, the most efficient solution for passive buildings is to build them on a foundation slab. The foundation of a building below the latest specified ground frost depths in Poland is inefficient in terms of, for example, thermal insulation, economics, and the idea of PH. The aim of the article is to compare two classifications systems of engineering-geological environment sustainability in terms of its permeability evaluated on the basis of permeability coefficient. The first evaluated classification assumes a permeable environment to be a positive characteristic in the engineering-geological assessment, while the other considers an impermeable environment as favourable. The four fine-grained soil materials were selected, as they had very similar, almost identical grains-size distribution, but different microstructure characterized by grains sphericity, angularity, and roughness. At the same time, the influence of changes in the density of soil materials (density index 10%, 30%, 60%, 90%) was analysed. Permeability coefficient was determined using six methods (empirical formulae, laboratory and microscopic analysis). The laboratory method falling head test (FHT) was taken as a reference test that reflected the actual water flow through the soil. It was found that with an increase in grain angularity and roughness (and a decrease in sphericity), the permeability coefficient was decreasing and this trend culminated along with gradual compaction. Moreover, the research shows that unsuitable methods may classify soil materials into wrong engineering-geological permeability classes, which may have negative consequences during engineering-geological or geotechnical assessment and cause subsequent problems in foundation engineering. Piles provide a convenient solution for heavy structures, where the foundation soil bearing capacity, or the tolerable settlement may be exceeded due to the applied loads. In cohesionless soils, the two frequently used pile installation methods are driving and drilling (or boring). This paper reviews the results of a large database of pile load tests of driven and drilled piles in cohesionless soils at various locations worldwide. The load test results are compared with the static analysis design method for single piles recommended in the Canadian Foundation Engineering Manual (CFEM) and other codes and standards such as the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, Federal Highway Administration, American Petroleum Institute, Eurocode, and the Naval Facilities Engineering Command. An improved pile design procedure is proposed linking the pile design coefficients (β) and (N t) to the friction angle of the soil, rather than employing the generalized soil type grouping scheme previously used in the CFEM. This improvement included in the new version of the CFEM 2021 produces a more unified value of the pile capacity calculated by different designers, reducing the obtained design capacity discrepancies. Gymnasium are typically large-span buildings with abundant solar energy resources due to their extensive roof surface. However, relevant research on this topic has not been thoroughly conducted to investigate the effect of the geometric shape of gymnasium buildings on their solar potential. In this paper, an investigation of the geometric shape effect on the solar potential of gymnasium buildings is presented. A three-dimensional radiation transfer model coupled with historical meteorological data was established to estimate the real-time solar potential of the roof of a gymnasium building. The rooftop solar potential of three typical building foundation shapes and different types of roof shapes that have evolved was systematically analyzed. An annual solar potential cloud map of each gymnasium building is generated. The monthly and annual average solar radiation intensities of the different types of roof shapes are investigated. Compared to the optimal tilt angle, the maximum decrease in the average radiation intensity reached −20.42%, while the minimum decline was −8.64% for all types of building shapes. The solar energy potential fluctuated by up to 11% across the various roof shapes, which indicate that shape selection is of vital importance for integrated photovoltaic gymnasium buildings. The results presented in this work are essential for clarifying the effects of the geometric shape of gymnasium buildings on the solar potential of their roofs, which provide an important reference for building design. Shallow Geothermal Energy Systems (SGESs) constitute Renewable Energy Systems (RES), which find application in the residential sector through the use of Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPs). GSHPs are associated with Ground Heat Exchangers (GHEs), whereby heat is gained/lost through a network of tubes into the ground. GSHPs have failed to flourish in the RES market due to their high initial costs and long payback periods. In this study, the use of Energy Geo-Structure (EGS) systems, namely, the foundation (or energy) piles and the foundation bed of a residential building in Cyprus, was computationally modeled in the COMSOL Multiphysics software. First, the single-houses' trend in number of units and area in Cyprus was examined and a theoretically typical house with nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB) characteristics was considered. The heating and cooling loads were estimated in the TRNSYS software environment and used as inputs to investigate the performance of the GSHP/GHE systems. Both systems were shown to exhibit steady performance and high Coefficient of Performance (COP) values, making them an alternative RES solution for residential building integration. Next, the systems were economically evaluated through a comparison with a convectional Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) system. The economic analysis showed that the cost of the suggested conversions of the foundation elements into GHEs had short payback periods. Underfloor heating systems provide comfort due to the natural heat flow distribution by a network of pipes, conventionally connected to a heat pump operating at low temperatures. To this extent, a renewable energy source could be an alternative solution. Acting as a case to investigate such systems, the Mediterranean island of Cyprus with a plethora of sunny days points to solar energy as the obvious solution. In this study, solar collector systems are recruited to supply the required heat for a typical Cypriot house, with the building's foundation acting as a thermal energy system (TES) unit. The heat supply to the building can then be distributed with natural convection from the TES. The solar collectors and the building's foundation system are studied with the aid of two software programs, namely TRNSYS and COMSOL Multiphysics. The former is used for the calculation of the heating and cooling load of the house as well as to estimate the energy provided by the flat plate solar collectors at specific conditions. The latter is then used to examine the TES unit with the heat gain/loss of the building. The obtained results, including analyses on the solar collectors' area and the foundation thickness indicate that the suggested system would be able to sufficiently cover, partially or fully, the building's heating load. Under the effect of initial stress and excavation disturbance, there exists interaction between rock mass and rockbolt in deeply buried tunnels. In order to fully explore the mechanism of rock mass supported with rockbolts, this article studied the time-dependent behavior of the rock mass supported with discretely mechanically or frictionally coupled (DMFC) rockbolts. The interaction model elastic solutions under distributed force model were analyzed, then the viscoelastic analytical solutions were conducted to describe the rheological properties of the coupling model, and the solutions were acquired by setting the constitutive models of the rockbolt and rock mass in terms of a one-dimensional Kelvin model and a three-dimensional Burgers model based on material properties and dimension. Several examples were performed and the influence of initial stress σ0, the viscosity parameters η1 and η2 of the three-dimensional Burgers model as well as the pre-tension T0 on reinforcement effect were analyzed. According to the proposed model, the smaller η2 is or the larger the pre-tension T0 is, the more effective the support effect. However, when the pre-tension is too large, the support effect is no longer significantly enhanced. In addition, the early reinforcement effect is controlled by the first creep stage in the Burgers model while the ultimate support effect is mainly influenced by the viscosity coefficient of the second creep stage in the Burgers model. In this paper, the exact analytical solutions are developed for the thermodynamic behavior of an Euler-Bernoulli beam resting on an elastic foundation and exposed to a time decaying laser pulse that scans over the beam with a uniform velocity. The governing equations, namely the heat conduction equation and the vibration equation are solved using the Green’s function approach. The temporal and special distributions of temperature, deflection, strain, and the energy absorbed by the elastic foundation are calculated. This paper focuses on the application of Advanced Satellite Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry (A-DInSAR) to subsidence-related issues, with particular reference to ground settlements due to external loads. Beyond the stratigraphic setting and the geotechnical properties of the subsoil, other relevant boundary conditions strongly influence the reliability of remotely sensed data for quantitative analyses and risk mitigation purposes. Because most of the Persistent Scatterer Interferometry (PSI) measurement points (Persistent Scatterers, PSs) lie on structures and infrastructures, the foundation type and the age of a construction are key factors for a proper interpretation of the time series of ground displacements. To exemplify a methodological approach to evaluate these issues, this paper refers to an analysis carried out in the coastal/deltaic plain west of Rome (Rome and Fiumicino municipalities) affected by subsidence and related damages to structures. This region is characterized by a complex geological setting (alternation of recent deposits with low and high compressibilities) and has been subjected to different urbanisation phases starting in the late 1800s, with a strong acceleration in the last few decades. The results of A-DInSAR analyses conducted from 1992 to 2015 have been interpreted in light of high-resolution geological/geotechnical models, the age of the construction, and the types of foundations of the buildings on which the PSs are located. Collection, interpretation, and processing of geo-thematic data were fundamental to obtain high-resolution models; change detection analyses of the land cover allowed us to classify structures/infrastructures in terms of the construction period. Additional information was collected to define the types of foundations, i.e., shallow versus deep foundations. As a result, we found that only by filtering and partitioning the A-DInSAR datasets on the basis of the above-mentioned boundary conditions can the related time series be considered a proxy of the consolidation process governing the subsidence related to external loads as confirmed by a comparison with results from a physically based back analysis based on Terzaghi's theory. Therefore, if properly managed, the A-DInSAR data represents a powerful tool for capturing the evolutionary stage of the process for a single building and has potential for forecasting the behaviour of the terrain–foundation–structure combination.
