There has been a growing trend of using local anesthesia (LA) compared to general anesthesia (GA) over the last two decades in VR surgery. We aim to answer the following question: what is the institutional benefit of LA versus GA use in operation-room time, anesthesia duration, earlier discharge from an outpatient surgery facility, and the estimated cost savings? We conducted a retrospective analysis of 1476 eyes that underwent vitreoretinal surgery over a 6-year period from a single site; 61.8% of patients received GA and 38.2% received LA for VR surgery. Anesthesia, surgical, and recovery times were significantly shorter with LA (100.49, 66.47, 66.47 mins) vs. GA (145.53, 100.14, 75.08 mins). Anesthesia, surgical, and recovery costs were significantly lower for eyes that received LA, with an estimated adjusted cost reduction of USD 1516 per surgery using LA instead of GA. Use of LA for vitreoretinal surgery is associated with better operational efficiency, earlier patient discharge, and significant cost reduction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Electronic medical records (EMRs) are extremely private data in the medical industry. Clinicians use the patient data that the EMR stores to quickly assess a patient's status and save diagnostic information. In the conventional medical model, it is easy for duplicate exams, medical resource waste, or the loss of medical records to happen when a patient is transferred between several medical facilities due to problems with data sharing and exchange, inadequate data privacy, security, confidentiality, and difficulties with data traceability. This paper recommends a Hyperledger Fabric-based strategy to promote the exchange of EMR models. With the use of Hyperledger Fabric, EMR stakeholders can be brought into the channel to facilitate data sharing. Attribute-based access control (ABAC) allows users to design the data access control policy, and the data access control may improve security. Any record stored in the blockchain can be viewed using the Hyperledger Fabric feature and it cannot be altered or destroyed, ensuring data traceability. Through proxy re-encryption, which makes sure that the data is not leaked during data exchange, data secrecy can be ensured. A module for medical tokens has now been added. Many foreign medical institutions currently use the medical token system, and the system described in this paper can use the tokens to pay for some medical expenses. The tokens are obtained by the patient's initiative to share their EMR with the medical institution for research, which is how many foreign medical institutions currently use the medical token mechanism. Structural reliability analysis has an inherent contradiction between efficiency and accuracy. The metamodel can significantly reduce the computational cost of reliability analysis by a simpler approximation. Therefore, it is crucial to build a metamodel, which achieves the minimum simulations and accurate estimation for reliability analysis. Aiming at this, an effective adaptive metamodel based on the combination of radial basis function (RBF) model and Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) is proposed. Different shape parameters are first used to generate the weighted prediction variance, and the search for new training samples is guided by the active learning function that achieves a tradeoff of (1) being close enough to limit state function (LSF) to have a high reliability sensitivity; (2) keeping enough distance between the existing samples to avoid a clustering problem; and (3) being in the sensitive region to ensure the effectiveness of the information obtained. The performance of the proposed method for a nonlinear, non-convex, and high dimensional reliability analysis is validated by three numerical cases. In a construction project, construction cost estimation is very important, but construction costs are affected by various factors, so they are difficult to predict accurately. However, with the recent development of ANN technology, it has become possible to predict construction costs with consideration of various influencing factors. Unlike previous research cases, this study aimed to predict the total construction cost by predicting seven sub-construction costs using a multioutput regression model, not by predicting a single total construction cost. In addition, analysis of the change in construction cost prediction performance was conducted by scaling and regularization. We estimated the error rate of predicting construction costs through sub-construction cost prediction to be 16.80%, a level similar to that of the total construction cost prediction error rate of 17.67%. This study shows that the construction cost can be calculated by predicting detailed cost factors at once, and it is expected that various types of construction costs or partial construction costs can be predicted using the predicted detailed cost elements. As a result of predicting several sub-construction costs using multioutput-based ANN, it was found that the prediction error rate varies depending on the type of construction. Control cables transfer force between two separate locations by a flexible mean, and hence, they are important in the automotive industry and many others; their terminals interact with both moving and moved mechanisms, so they must be strong. Cable terminals are commonly made of ZAMAK and are created by injection molding. However, such a production method requires leaving extra material to allow the correct molding, also known as sprues, which are removed later in the process. In this case, the sprues were separating from the terminals in an uncontrolled way. In this work, the cause of sprues separating prematurely from the terminals in a production line is addressed. The whole process was analyzed, and each possible solution was evaluated using process improvement techniques and the Finite Element Method, leading to the best solutions. Molds, mold structures, and auxiliary equipment were improved, resulting in a minimally invasive intervention and remaining compatible with other equipment. Cost analyses were done, indicating an investment return in less than a year. The modification led to a reduction of 62.6% in the sprue mass, while porosity was reduced by 10.2% and 55.9%, corresponding to two terminal models. The demand for rubber gloves has significantly increased in both medical and non-medical fields due to the spread of the coronavirus in 2019. It is challenging for rubber glove manufacturing industries to balance the production and demand for the product. Additionally, they must determine techniques to decrease the production costs so as to make rubber gloves more economical for consumers. Generally, natural gas, fossil fuels, and renewable energy sources are used worldwide in the manufacturing of rubber gloves. In addition, Thailand uses biomass energy for rubber glove production, but biomass utilization is not economically friendly. This study used different biomasses as fuel in rubber glove production so as to reduce production costs and make the process more environmentally friendly. Wood chip (WC), palm kernel shells (PKS), and oil palm mesocarp fiber (OPMF) biomass were collected from local regions and used in different ratios. The samples of WC, PKS, and OPMF were prepared in four different ratios, namely, 88:12:0, 85:15:0, 85:13:2, and 85:10:5, for efficient biomass utilization. The 85:10:5 (WC: PKS: OPMF) ratio was found to be the optimal ratio as the annual production costs of rubber gloves significantly decreased to USD 1.64 per 1000 units of gloves. Furthermore, this biomass ratio also showed the best boiler efficiency of 74.87%. Therefore, WC, PKS, and OPMF biomass are recommended as fuel for rubber glove industries to make sustainable and economical production processes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article is devoted to the study of the influence of government data performance on knowledge capabilities. Knowledge capabilities play a key role in open innovation and creation of citizen-oriented products and services. However, it is necessary to assess the role of the information environment in the development of knowledge capabilities, including government data as a product and a component of the information environment. Government data performance is expressed through the statistical capacity score and its three dimensions: periodicity assessment of statistical capacity, methodology assessment of statistical capacity, and source data assessment of statistical capacity. Knowledge capabilities are expressed through economic complexity, which reflects the diversity and uniqueness of the production capabilities inherent in each country's exports. Econometric analysis is based on dynamic panel data models that quantify the effect of government data performance on economic complexity. The final dataset includes 94 countries and their indicators for the selected variables for 2004–2019. The models show that government data performance and its various dimensions influence economic complexity because government data provide a detailed and publicly available description of the economic space, including available resources and potential tasks. Based on these data, agents can produce dissimilar and unique products. This logic may be true in general for the influence of government data performance on knowledge capabilities: structured and complete government data reduces the cost of information analysis and provides information support for decisions. The results of the study contribute to the ideas of a data-oriented political economy. Government participation in value creation includes various forms of indirect influence. The provision of government data is one of these forms. The development of collective data governance and collaborative data projects makes it possible to create more complete datasets and stimulates citizen involvement and deliberation. In engineering applications, such as automobile, marine, aerospace, and railway, lightweight alloys of aluminum (Al) and magnesium (Mg) ensure design fitness for fuel economy, better efficiency, and overall cost reduction. Friction stir welding (FSW) for joining dissimilar materials has been considered better than the conventional fusion welding process because of metallurgical concerns. In this study, dissimilar joints were made between the AA6061 (A), AZ31B (B), and AZ91D (C) combinations based on the varying advancing side (AS) and retreating side (RS). The dissimilar joints prepared by the FSW process were further characterized by tensile testing, impact testing, corrosion testing, fracture, and statistical and cost analysis. The results revealed a maximum tensile strength of 192.39 MPa in AZ91 and AZ31B, maximum yield strength of 134.38 MPa in a combination of AA6061 and AZ91, maximum hardness of 114 Hv in AA6061 and AZ31B, and lowest corrosion rate of 7.03 mV/A in AA6061 and AZ31B. The results of the properties were supported by photomicrographic fracture analysis by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations. The filter feature selection algorithm is habitually used as an effective way to reduce the computational cost of data analysis by selecting and implementing only a subset of original features into the study. Mutual information (MI) is a popular measurement adopted to quantify the dependence among features. MI-based greedy forward methods (MIGFMs) have been widely applied to escape from computational complexity and exhaustion of high-dimensional data. However, most MIGFMs are parametric methods that necessitate proper preset parameters and stopping criteria. Improper parameters may lead to ignorance of better results. This paper proposes a novel nonparametric feature selection method based on mutual information and mixed-integer linear programming (MILP). By forming a mutual information network, we transform the feature selection problem into a maximum flow problem, which can be solved with the Gurobi solver in a reasonable time. The proposed method attempts to prevent negligence on obtaining a superior feature subset while keeping the computational cost in an affordable range. Analytical comparison of the proposed method with six feature selection methods reveals significantly better results compared to MIGFMs, considering classification accuracy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Korea is implementing housing support programs such as public rental housing and housing allowances to improve the housing welfare of low-income households. In this study, we empirically analyzed the effects of the public rental housing program and the housing allowance program on residential satisfaction and the housing cost burden of policy beneficiaries. In accordance with household attributes, we analyzed how the status of using these programs affected each group's residential satisfaction and housing cost burden. We used the data from the 2020 Korea Housing Survey conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. We examined the housing support programs' effects on each of the following household groups: all households, one-person households, households of newlywed couples, young adult households, and households of the elderly. The status of residing in public rental housing positively affected the residential satisfaction among all households, one-person households, and households of the elderly. It reduced the housing cost burden for all household types. The status of receiving the housing allowance negatively affected the residential satisfaction for all households and increased the housing cost burden for young adult households. Building information modeling (BIM) has opened up many possibilities for the construction industry. However, most studies focus mainly on its overall uses and management areas. By investigating real projects that could utilize BIM in the design phases for railway construction, the authors examine the possible advantages and disadvantages in BIM implementation. To do so, the authors have selected three projects that utilized BIM implementation during the design process and three other projects with a non-BIM, traditionally designed working environment. Similar-scale projects were carefully chosen, and their differences in costs, man-hours, and labor forces were analyzed quantitatively. In addition, an in-depth interview was conducted with four BIM-designing firms to provide a more comprehensive perspective on the advantages and issues in BIM implementation. The average results showed that BIM-implemented projects spent USD 65,800 less than their counterparts and could increase productivity by about 2.9%. More importantly, the primary difference between BIM and non-BIM projects are in their man-hours. Blockchain technology (BCT) can enable distributed collaboration, enhance data sharing, and automate back-end processes for digital twin (DT) decentralized applications (dApps) in the construction industry (CI) 4.0. The aim of this paper was to propose a software architecture and to develop a framework of smart contracts for blockchain-based digital twin (BCDT) dApps throughout the lifecycle of projects in CI 4.0. This paper leveraged the existing literature and action research interviews to identify and validate the critical industry problems, functional requirements (FRs), and non-functional requirements (NFRs) to be addressed by BCDT dApps in CI 4.0. Basic use cases were developed to design a framework of smart contracts for BCDT dApps throughout the lifecycle of projects. The analysis of an online survey was used to identify the key requirements and enablers to propose a software architecture for BCDT applications and to validate the requirements for developing the framework of a smart contract for BCDTs. The findings were: (1) The identification of key problems in CI 4.0 for each BIM/BCDT dimension (3D, 4D, 5D, 6D, 7D, 8D, and contractual (cD)) and the related FRs and NFRs for BCDT applications. Additionally, key use cases were designed to address the problems identified. (2) The proposed BCDT architecture permitted us to narrow gaps in the literature on blockchain-based decentralized digital twins. Moreover, the proposed BCDT architecture and smart-contract framework addressed the main requirements in the literature on BCDTs. (3) The study leveraged the non-fungible token (NFT) standard to develop a framework for smart contracts that addressed the key use cases and the related industry problems and functional requirements that were identified. The study also considered the contractual dimension (cD) as an overarching dimension in relation to the other BCDT dimensions. (4) We also compared the costs of several public blockchains for executing the proposed smart-contract framework throughout the lifecycle of a medium-sized building project. The cost analysis permitted the development of criteria to evaluate the suitability of blockchain networks for BCDT applications in CI 4.0 depending on the principal blockchain networks' properties (security, decentralization, scalability, and interoperability). Finally, this study resulted in a novel framework that included software architecture, smart-contract use cases, and selection criteria among blockchain networks for BCDT dApps in CI 4.0. The growing demand for low-carbon fuel is predicted by ultimate goals to fit the carbon neutrality by 2050 in many countries and regions including the European Union. According to the International Energy Agency, the CO2 emissions related to transportation stand for around 30% of total annual emissions, and so, the decarbonization of the mobility sector has the highest priority. In this work, we attempt to evaluate the expected demand for low-carbon fuels, including blue and green hydrogen, and low-carbon electricity in order to compare the available and required capacities of low-carbon fuels and electricity. According to our calculations based on the figures from 2020, the transition toward H2 mobility would require an amount of hydrogen equal to 366 million tons/annum, and by 2035, this requirement will increase up to 422 million tons/annum, which is several times larger than the existing H2 production capacities. We have estimated the volume of the carbon capture and storage facilities required for full decarbonization of the mobility sector globally, and in the case of hydrogen mobility driven by blue hydrogen, it exceeds 4.0 billions tons of CO2 per annum, while the decarbonization of coal-fired plants will require more than 10.0 billions tons of CO2 per annum. In addition to the calculation of required resources, we have estimated the cost of the fuel and required capital investments and have compared different possible solutions from different points of view: economic viability, technical readiness, and social perception. Finally, it can be concluded that the decarbonization of the mobility sector would require a complex solution involving both low-carbon hydrogen and electrification, and the capacities of low-carbon fuel must be significantly increased in the following decade to fulfill the climate goals. The analysis of chemical oxygen demand (COD) plays an important role in measuring water pollution, but it normally has a high ecological price. Advances in image acquisition and processing techniques enable the use of mobile devices for analytical purposes. Here, the PhotoMetrix PRO application was used for image acquisition and multivariate analysis. Statistical analysis showed no significant difference in the results compared to the standard method, with no adverse effect of the volume reduction. The cost of analysis and waste generation were reduced by one third, while the analysis time was reduced by one fifth. The miniaturized method was successfully employed in the analysis of several matrices and for the evaluation of advanced oxidation processes. The AGREE score was improved by 25% due to miniaturization. For these reasons, the miniaturized PhotoMetrix PRO method is a suitable option for COD analysis, being less hazardous to the environment due to reductions in the chemicals used and in waste generation. There is an increasing demand to simulate and optimize the performance and profit of comminution circuits, especially in low-grade ore processing, as is the case with critical metals minerals. Recent research has shown that the optimization result is greatly influenced by quality aspects of the products, such as cost, profit, and capacity. This paper presents a novel approach to performing a multi-objective technical and economic analysis of tantalum ore processing to increase the production of critical metals minerals. The article starts with mineral composition analysis to highlight the potential of strategies for balancing the process layout for maximized production. The introduction of a combined technical and economic analysis presents the possibility of improving the profit by rearranging the mass flow given the rock's mineral composition. The return of rural migrant workers through increasing agricultural income by expanding farming scale is significant for rural sustainable development without rural population loss. This paper selected six representative counties in Henan Province, China's major grain-producing province, to conduct a questionnaire survey, investigated the incomes of farmers from farming and migrant workers, calculated moderate farming scale under different opportunity costs, and also estimated the agricultural population that can be supported by arable land resources. Results are as follows: (1) Under the traditional planting mode, annual per capita income of farmers in farming was USD 342.18, which was substantially lower than USD 5255.63 in migrant workers. This huge income gap has led to continuous rural population loss. (2) Under the opportunity cost of farming income equal to migrant workers income, moderate farming scales of the six selected counties were 1.39, 1.17, 1.22, 1.08, 1.34, and 1.01 ha, respectively. Under the 0.8x and 0.6x opportunity cost, corresponding moderate farming scales were 1.11, 0.94, 1.11, 0.86, 1.07, and 1.34 ha; and 0.84, 0.70, 0.73, 0.65, 0.80 and 1.01 ha, respectively. (3) On the basis of the three moderate farming scales and status quo of arable land resources, agricultural populations that can be supported by rural Henan Province were 8.0386 million, 10.0479 million and 13.3942 million, respectively. In this paper, the self-curing process was considered and found to be a better alternative to the conventional curing process for concrete structures in Ethiopia. It is well known that water plays a significant role in the curing process of preparing concrete in the construction industry. A good quality water is required for the conventional curing process, but that is scarce in Ethiopia. Curing concrete for bridges and roads is difficult in Ethiopia due to the poor quality and scarcity of water. In this study, Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) 600, a self-curing process, is considered as an alternative. Using the M40 Grade mix, four different percentages of PEG-600, 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 of cement weight, were studied, and the specimens were tested. Here, M40 grade stands for "a concrete mix with a characteristic compressive strength of 40 N/mm2, i.e., 40 Newton per square millimeter". Additionally, the mechanical strengths and properties of both conventional and self-cured processed concretes were calculated and compared. The present investigation concludes that PEG 600 offers significant results for self-curing concrete. The study procedure, results, and recommendations are presented in the text of the paper. Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare genetic disorder associated with low bone density and increased bone fragility. OI can lead to a variety of supportive and medical care needs; yet financial impacts for families and individuals living with OI remain understudied and largely invisible. Efforts by families to recover costs through GoFundMe®, the most important crowdfunding web platform worldwide, offer an unprecedented opportunity to gain insight into OI costs. The purpose of this study was to describe GoFundMe® profiles and determine what factors may contribute to funding goal achievement. A netnographic approach was used to investigate a publicly available dataset from GoFundMe®, with 1206 webpages extracted and 401 included for analysis. Most webpages originated from the United States and were created by family members. Nineteen cost categories were identified. Thirty-seven web profiles met their funding goal. Funding increases or goal achievements created for children were associated with increased social-media exposure (i.e., Facebook). This study helped to describe and showcase the financial impacts of OI and effectiveness of a crowdfunding website to alleviate costs. Cotton, as an important cash crop and strategic material, is widely planted in Xinjiang, China. In the traditional way, the management of the cotton field is extensive and the cost is huge. This paper analyzed the economic benefits and the related influence factors of cotton field management digitalization by collecting costs from 2020 of four major tasks in field management in Xinjiang, China. These four main tasks included field scouting, plant protection, topping and irrigation. By analyzing the intersection of the average cost curves of each major task in field management, we obtained the critical size of digital agriculture replacing traditional agriculture. Then, we used sensitivity analysis to find the main factors affecting the promotion and application of digital agricultural equipment. The results show: (1) at a certain critical size, the use of digital agricultural equipment can reduce the cost of production compared to traditional agriculture. However, the critical size varies for different management segments. (2) Fixed equipment costs, labor costs, water costs and energy costs have a large impact on the critical size. On large-scale cotton farms, digital agriculture tends to be more economical than traditional agriculture. In the future, as the cost of fixed equipment decreases, and labor costs and water costs rise, the critical size of digital agriculture replacing traditional agriculture will get smaller, and the scope of the economic benefits of digital cotton field management will increase further. To improve the air quality in urban areas, diesel buses are getting replaced by battery electric buses (BEBs). This conversion introduces several challenges, such as the proper control of the charging process and a reduction in the operational costs, which can be addressed by introducing smart charging concepts for BEB fleets. Therefore, this paper proposes a real-time scheduling and optimization (RTSO) algorithm for the charging of multiple BEBs in a depot. The algorithm assigns a variable charging current to the different time slots the charging process of each BEB is divided to provide an optimal charging schedule that minimizes the charging cost, while satisfying the power limitations of the distribution network and maintaining the operation schedule of the BEBs. A genetic algorithm is used to solve the formulated cost function in real time. Several charging scenarios are tested in simulation, which show that a reduction in the charging cost up to 10% can be obtained under a dynamic electricity price scheme. Furthermore, the RTSO is implemented in a high-level charging management system, a new feature required to enable smart charging in practice, to test the developed algorithm with existing charging infrastructure. The main subject of this paper is an optimization of steel roof framing used as a load-bearing structure in commercial pavilions. The authors wanted to draw attention to the necessity to take into account the uncertainty in the description of design parameters during optimization. In the first step, using geometrically nonlinear relationships, a static-strength analysis is performed. The decisive form of loss of stability in this steel roof framing is the jump of the node (snap-through), and not the buckling of the most stressed structure bars. Therefore, when creating the limit function, it was decided to make a condition limiting the permissible displacement. Values of the implicit limit function were calculated with Abaqus software based on the finite element method. Reliability analysis, and robust and deterministic optimization were performed using Numpress Explore software. Numpress Explore software communicates with the Abaqus software to perform analysis. The task ended with the generation of information that contained the failure probability, reliability index and the values of optimized areas of the bars' cross-sections. Foodservices in residential aged-care homes (RACHs) play a vital role in providing meals and maintaining residents' health through good nutrition. However, foodservices are often required to work within a budget, and the costs involved in foodservices are often misunderstood and underestimated. The aim of this work was to design a costing tool that included all relevant costs of a foodservice. A systems approach was used to inform the development of the Foodservice Costing Tool (FCT). Eight domains were identified, including costs that are both directly and indirectly associated with foodservices. The tool was piloted and trialled in the Australian aged-care setting and compared to currently available national estimates of costs. Through four pilots and subsequent trials, the FCT was able to capture the costs of a foodservice system in a small sample of RACHs, although the low response rate may have biased the sample toward those homes that had fewer problems with the FCT. The results highlighted the limitations of currently reported estimates, which underestimate total costs, as they fail to encompass the complexity of foodservices and to recognise that costs extend beyond the kitchen. The FCT is a useful tool and has the potential to be used by RACHs to both measure and understand their costs at a more granular level to ensure cost effectiveness and accountability. Next-generation networks focus on scale and scope at the price of increasing complexity, leading to difficulties in network design and planning. As a result, anticipating all hardware- and software-related factors of network performance requires time-consuming and expensive benchmarking. This work presents a framework and software tool for automatically inferring the performance of P4 programmable network switches based on the P4 source code and probabilistic models of the execution environment with the hope of eliminating the requirement of the costly set-up of networked hardware and conducting benchmarks. We designed the framework using a top-down approach. First, we transform high-level P4 programs into a representation that can be refined incrementally by adding probabilistic environment models of increasing levels of complexity in order to improve the estimation precision. Then, we use the PRISM probabilistic model checker to perform the heavy weight calculations involved in static performance prediction. We present a formalization of the performance estimation problem, detail our solution, and illustrate its usage and validation through a case study conducted using a small P4 program and the P4C-BM reference switch. Background: Undiagnosed human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection remains a public health challenge. We explore Facebook (FB) advertisement (Ads) cost per new HIV diagnosis using non-targeted Ads, a routine testing model against targeted Ads, and a focused testing model in Texas. Methods: On 14 October 2021, we created (without launching) Texas-based, USD 10 targeted (using criteria matching HIV populations at risk) and non-targeted FB Ads for 10 days. In the process of creating the Ads, we collected estimated audience size, daily reach, and daily clicks. We estimated Ad cost for each new HIV diagnosis for targeted and non-targeted Ads using new HIV diagnosis rates from focused and routine testing campaigns. Results: The Ad costs per new HIV diagnosis from the targeted model were 4.74, 2.86, 5.28, and 2.88 times lower for men, Black, Hispanic, and all age groups, respectively, when compared to the non-targeted model. The wider the gap was between new HIV diagnosis rates in a population for focused and routine testing, the more cost-effective targeted Ads became. Conclusions: Among HIV populations at risk, targeted FB Ads are more cost-effective for detecting new HIV infections than non-targeted Ads. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is the most common bacterial infection worldwide, is usually acquired during childhood and is related to gastric carcinogenesis during adulthood. Therefore, its early proper diagnosis and subsequent successful eradication represent the cornerstones of gastric cancer prevention. The aim of this narrative review was to assess traditional and modern diagnostic methods in terms of H. pylori diagnosis. Several invasive and non-invasive methods were described, each with its pros and cons. The invasive diagnostic methods comprise endoscopy with biopsy, rapid urease tests, histopathological exams, cultures and biopsy-based molecular tests. Among these, probably the most available, accurate and cost-effective test remains histology, albeit molecular tests definitely remain the most accurate despite their high costs. The non-invasive tests consist of urea breath tests, serology, stool antigens and non-invasive molecular tests. Urea breath tests and stool antigens are the most useful in clinical practice both for the diagnosis of H. pylori infection and for monitoring the eradication of this infection after therapy. (2) Methods: A retrospective comparative study was carried out in the Oral and Maxillofacial Department of La Paz University Hospital, Madrid, Spain. The study compared 18 patients in the CAD/CAM group with 19 patients in the conventional freehand group. A comparison was made between the total surgical time, the comorbidities, and the hospital stay. The resource consumption was estimated using a cost analysis. (3) Results: Although CAD/CAM was a statistically more expensive procedure in the perioperative phase, no significant differences were observed in total health care costs between the two groups. There was a non-significant trend towards an increase in complications with conventional reconstruction plates compared to patient-specific plates (PSI). The increasing popularity of ride-hailing applications has given rise to a new channel in which ride-hailing platforms are bundled into aggregation platforms to earn additional orders by charging commissions and slotting fees. Such bundled channels, unlike traditional reseller electronic ones, may flutter prices, service levels, market demands, and then further affect their profits. These divergent attitudes raise an interesting and key question about whether and under what conditions bundled channels should be introduced to ride-hailing platforms. In this paper, we provide an analytical framework for ride-hailing and aggregation platforms in unbundled and bundled scenarios, respectively. We build a Stackelberg game model in which ride-hailing and aggregation platforms as leaders obtain prices by constructing Nash equilibria, while drivers as followers determine service levels given to two platforms. Drivers' best responses in terms of service levels for two platforms, as well as platforms' optimal pricing strategies and profits are achieved. To capture access conditions of the ride-hailing platform and the profit contention between two platforms, we further conduct sensitivity analysis on cost coefficients of service levels, price and cross-price substitutions, service level and cross-service level substitutions, revenue-sharing ratio, cost, as well as commission and slotting fee. A series of distributed flexural cracks develop in reinforced concrete flexural elements under the working load. The control of cracking in reinforced concrete is an important issue that must be considered in the design of reinforced concrete structures. Crack width and spacing are influenced by several factors, including the steel percentage, its distribution in the concrete cross-section, the concrete cover, and the concrete properties. In practice, however, a compromise must be made between cracking, durability, and ease of construction and cost. This study presents the optimal design of a reinforced concrete cross-section, using the optimization method of mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) and the Eurocode standard. The MINLP optimization model OPTCON was developed for this purpose. The model contains the objective function of the material cost considering the crack width requirements. The crack width requirements can be satisfied by direct calculation or by limiting the bar spacing. Due to the different crack width requirements, two different economic designs of reinforced concrete sections were proposed. The case study presented in this study demonstrates the value of the presented optimization approach. The concept of improving the quality and safety of healthcare is well known. However, a follow-up question is often asked about whether these improvements are cost-effective. The prevalence of nosocomial infections (NIs) in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is approximately 30% in developing countries. Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is the second most common NI in the NICU. Reducing the incidence of NIs can offer patients better and safer treatment and at the same time can provide cost savings for hospitals and payers. The aim of the study is to assess the direct costs of VAP in the NICU. This is a prospective study, conducted between January 2017 and June 2018 in the NICU of University Hospital "St. George" Plovdiv, Bulgaria. During this period, 107 neonates were ventilated for more than 48 h and included in the study. The costs for the hospital stay are based on the records from the Accounting Database of the setting. The differences directly attributable to VAP are presented both as an absolute value and percentage, based on the difference between the values of the analyzed variables. There are no statistically significant differences between patients with and without VAP in terms of age, sex, APGAR score, time of admission after birth and survival. We confirmed differences between the median birth weight (U = 924, p = 0.045) and average gestational age (t = 2.14, p = 0.035) of the patients in the two study groups. The median length of stay (patient-days) for patients with VAP is 32 days, compared to 18 days for non-VAP patients (U = 1752, p < 0.001). The attributive hospital stay due to VAP is 14 days. The median hospital costs for patients with VAP are estimated at €3675.77, compared to the lower expenses of €2327.78 for non-VAP patients (U = 1791.5, p < 0.001). The median cost for antibiotic therapy for patients with VAP is €432.79, compared to €351.61 for patients without VAP (U = 1556, p = 0.024). Our analysis confirms the results of other studies that the increased length of hospital stays due to VAP results in an increase in hospital costs. With the growing importance of the principle of sustainability, there is an increasing interest in the use of timber–concrete composite for floors, especially for medium and large span buildings. Timber–concrete composite combines the better properties of both materials and reduces their disadvantages. The most common choice is to use a cross-laminated timber panel as a base for a timber–concrete composite. But a timber–concrete composite solution with plywood rib panels with an adhesive connection between the timber base and fibre reinforced concrete layer is offered as the more cost-effective constructive solution. An algorithm for determining the rational parameters of the panel cross-section has been developed. The software was written based on the proposed algorithm to compare timber–concrete composite panels with cross-laminated timber and plywood rib panel bases. The developed algorithm includes recommendations of forthcoming Eurocode 5 for timber–concrete composite design and an innovative approach to vibration calculations. The obtained data conclude that the proposed structural solution has up to 73% lower cost and up to 71% smaller self-weight. Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the clinical effectiveness and costs of using the Caterpillar Arterial Embolization Device (Caterpillar) and fibered coils in arterial embolization cases. Methods: In this multicenter retrospective study, demographic, laboratory, and procedural data were collected on a total of 48 patients between February 2020 and September 2020. Data were collected on 16 Caterpillar placements and matched with 32 controls who underwent coil embolization of the same vessel with a similar size. Clinical and procedural outcomes including type and size of vessels, time to vessel occlusion, fluoroscopy time, total procedure time, and costs were analyzed and compared. Results: Relative time to occlusion was significantly decreased in the Caterpillar group compared to the controls (57 ± 34 s vs. 11 min 44 s ± 8 min 13 s, p = 0.00001611). Fluoroscopy time (6.9 ± 15 min vs. 19.2 ± 14, p = 0.017) and total procedure time (81.0 ± 36 min vs. 111.5 ± 49 min, p = 0.015) were significantly reduced compared to the coil group. Lastly, overall cost of embolic materials was 1050 ± 0 USD for the Caterpillar group compared to 2312.75 ± 1382.84 USD in the coil group (p = 0.000532). Conclusion: The Caterpillar embolic devices appear safe and effective in arterial occlusion. Compared to fibered coils, the Caterpillar device results in decreased time to vessel occlusion, decreased fluoroscopy and procedural time, and decreased costs, making the Caterpillar an appealing choice for arterial embolization. Concrete pavement proportions are increasing in Korean expressways, resulting in increased maintenance cost. The length of degenerate concrete pavements that have exceeded the design life (20 years) was 1150 km in 2015 and 2605 km in 2020 and is expected to rapidly increase. To extend the service life of concrete pavements, life-cycle cost (LCC) analysis was conducted on asphalt and concrete overlays, based on the different maintenance methods. LCC analysis was performed when the shoulder was used and when it was not used between 6000 and 35,000 AADT traffic according to the two-lane and four-lane traffic. During overlay, one lane was completely blocked, and the value per vehicle was converted into the user cost using the Construction Analysis for Pavement Rehabilitation Strategies software, according to whether the shoulder was used to maintain the number of lanes. In addition, LCC analysis was conducted by examining the construction cost and life-cycle according to each overlay method. When the shoulder was used, the total construction cost decreased, owing to the reduction in user cost, indicating that the implementation of the traffic measure of using the road shoulder improves user satisfaction and cost. The asphalt overlay was observed to be more favorable than concrete overlay in terms of the initial total construction cost. However, under a 20-year cycle, the economic efficiency of concrete overlay was higher than that of asphalt overlay. After repairing the deteriorated target sections of concrete pavements, the overlay method (asphalt or concrete) ought to be selected according to the target service life for beneficial economic effect. Dust pollution arising out of building demolition has serious health implications on workers, as well as the neighboring communities. Existing research has shown that regulatory and engineering control methods are the most popular for dust pollution control on demolition sites. Though engineering control methods are effective in suppressing dust pollution, they have enormous cost implications for demolition companies. Therefore, accurate prediction of dust treatment costs is an important element of the demolition planning process. However, very little information is available in the existing research about treatment costs. In addition, there has not been any attempt to develop a model which can accurately predict the cost of dust treatment during building demolition. To overcome this knowledge gap, a grey prediction model is built according to the information obtained from twenty previous demolition projects. The historical trend of demolition project cost is combined to establish the prediction model based on GM (1, 1), which can be used to obtain the dust treatment cost of a project with very high accuracy. To further improve the prediction accuracy, this paper also builds a Single Function Residual Identifiability (SFRI) model. The relative error between the actual and predicted dust treatment costs from 2013 to 2021 ranges from 0.003% to 0.077%. Through detailed assessment of various treatment measures using a case study, it was found that the results obtained by the prediction model are very close to the actual costs incurred, which verifies the accuracy of the proposed model. Our proposed scheme includes the authentication cost of an intra-domain handover for evaluating the total packet delivery cost of handover for next-generation mobility management protocols, which is PMIPv6 for the vehicular network. We have considered the vital parameters such as the number of MAGs, setup cost, binding update cost, unit transmission cost for analyzing the total packet delivery cost. Furthermore, a comparative study with authentication and without authentication cost for the considered parameters shows that our proposed scheme secures the handover process with slight variation in cost. Background: Health economic evaluations are needed to assess the impact on the healthcare system of emerging treatment patterns for advanced prostate cancer. The objective of this study is to review the scientific literature identifying cost-effectiveness and cost analyses that are assessing treatments for metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC) and nonmetastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC). Methods: On 29 June 2021, we searched the scientific (MEDLINE, Embase, and EBSCO) and grey literature for health economic studies targeting mHSPC and nmCRPC. We used the CHEC-extended checklist and the Welte checklist for risk-of-bias assessment and transferability analysis, respectively. Results: We retained 20 cost-effectiveness and 4 cost analyses in the mHSPC setting, and 14 cost-effectiveness and 6 cost analyses in the nmCRPC setting. Docetaxel in combination with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) was the most cost-effective treatment in the mHSPC setting. Apalutamide, darolutamide, and enzalutamide presented similar results vs. ADT alone and were identified as cost-effective treatments for nmCRPC. An increase in costs as patients transitioned from nmCRPC to mCRPC was noted. Conclusions: We concluded that there is an important unmet need for health economic evaluations in the mHSPC and nmCRPC setting incorporating real-world data to support healthcare decision making. With the advantages of high strength, light weight, high corrosion and fatigue resistance, and low relaxation, carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) is an excellent cable material for cable-stayed bridges. However, the relatively high unit price of CFRP compared to that of steel may hinder the large-scale application of CFRP stay cables. This paper presents the economic comparison between long-span cable-stayed bridges using CFRP cables and the corresponding steel cable-stayed bridges through life-cycle cost analysis (LCCA). Three CFRP cable-stayed bridges with a main span of 600 m, 1200 m, and 1800 m, respectively, along with their steel counterparts, were designed, and their life-cycle costs (LCCs) were calculated. The comparison of LCCs was not only between the CFRP and steel cable-stayed bridges with the same span, but also between the cable-stayed bridges with different spans. Furthermore, the different unit prices of CFRP cables and different replacement frequencies of steel cables were also investigated. The results show that the initial design and construction cost of the long-span CFRP cable-stayed bridge is higher than that of the corresponding steel cable-stayed bridge, although using CFRP cables can reduce the materials used, primarily due to the higher unit price of the CFRP cable. Despite the higher initial cost, the long-span CFRP cable-stayed bridge can still achieve lower LCC than the steel cable-stayed bridge, because it has significantly lower rehabilitation cost and user cost, as well as slightly lower vulnerability cost. Furthermore, with the increase in the main span and the decrease in the unit price of CFRP cables, the LCC advantage of the long-span CFRP cable-stayed bridge becomes more obvious. A well-designed institutional arrangement for urban village redevelopment projects (UVRPs) must consider transaction costs, but academic papers discussing it from the perspective of transaction cost economics are lacking. This paper applies theory of transaction cost economics to analyse the types and sizes of transaction costs and who bears these costs during redevelopment when implementing UVRPs in China. This paper finds that transactions in UVRPs have high asset specificity, high uncertainty and low frequency, which easily results in high levels of transaction costs. Based on 439 UVRPs collected from seven cities, this paper finds that UVRPs implemented with top–down institutional arrangements remain prevalent in China. Based on semi-structured interviews with participating parties, this paper proves that the sizes and types of transaction costs and the distribution of these costs borne by different participating parties vary with the change of stage under dissimilar institutional arrangements. This implies that a high level of transaction costs at one stage does not necessarily mean the costs stay high at another stage. Transaction costs have essential implications for process efficiency, so policymakers need to consider transaction costs and use hybrid institutional arrangements to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of policies. Rock-filled concrete (RFC) has good performance in terms of energy savings, cost reduction, and CO2 emissions as a novel massive concrete construction technology. There have been studies into replacing natural rocks in RFC with large blocks of solid waste, and this method has been used on several construction sites. However, the granular and powdery solid waste utilized in RFC is limited, as a consequence of the special requirement of self-compacting concrete (SCC) in RFC. The goal of this paper is to increase the amount of granular and powdery solid waste in RFC. Iron ore tailing (IOT) and phosphogypsum (PG) were used separately as granular and powdery solid waste. The modified PG, ground blast-furnace slag (GBFS), steel slag, and cement clinker are combined to form parathion gypsum slag cement in a specific proportion, with the ratio of PG, GBFS, steel slag, and cement being 47:47:2:2. To replace the natural rocks in RFC, artificial rockfills made of IOT and parathion gypsum slag cement are used to increase the dosage of solid waste. The artificial rockfills were formed using three methods: compressing, roller compacting, and normal vibrating. When the compressive strength and material costs of the three types of artificial rockfills are compared, the compressing method is the best for maximizing the IOT. The superior mechanical characteristics of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) have attracted the interest of many researchers worldwide. Researchers have attempted to perform comparative analyses on the behavior of UHPC versus conventional and high-strength concrete, with their aim being to gain more insights into the difference between different types of concrete. However, the current state-of-the-art revealed no direct comprehensive comparisons between their behaviors in ductile coupled shear walls under seismic loading. This paper explores a comprehensive side-by-side comparison in terms of seismic behavior and cost analysis for four 60-story archetype buildings. The reference building was designed using high-strength concrete with a strength of 60 MPa. The other three archetype variations incorporated three different UHPC grades: 150 MPa, 185 MPa, and 220 MPa. The plan configuration and the lateral force-resisting system (LFRS) were chosen according to the most common practice in the UAE. The main objective is to report the effect of UHPC on the LFRS (ductile coupled shear walls). Moreover, a simplified initial cost analysis (materials and labor) design was performed. The findings of this paper indicate that the use of UHPC is capable of improving the seismic performance behavior of the lateral system as well as reducing the total initial costs. In vertical federated learning (FL), the features of a data sample are distributed across multiple agents. As such, inter-agent collaboration can be beneficial not only during the learning phase, as is the case for standard horizontal FL, but also during the inference phase. A fundamental theoretical question in this setting is how to quantify the cost, or performance loss, of decentralization for learning and/or inference. In this paper, we study general supervised learning problems with any number of agents, and provide a novel information-theoretic quantification of the cost of decentralization in the presence of privacy constraints on inter-agent communication within a Bayesian framework. A standard CO2 capture process is implemented in Aspen HYSYS, simulated, and evaluated based on available data from Fortum's waste burning facility at Klemetsrud in Norway. Since amine-based CO2 removal has high costs, the main aim is cost-optimizing. A simplified carbon-capture unit with a 20-m absorber packing height, 90% CO2 removal efficiency, and a minimum approach temperature for the lean/rich amine heat exchanger (ΔTmin) of 10 °C was considered the base case simulation model. A sensitivity analysis was performed to optimize these parameters. For the base case study, CO2 captured cost was calculated as 37.5 EUR/t. When the sensitivity analysis changes the size, the Power Law method adjusts the equipment cost. A comparison of the Enhanced Detailed Factor (EDF) and the Power Law approach was performed for all simulations to evaluate the uncertainties in the findings from the Power Law method. The optimums calculated for ΔTmin and CO2 capture rate were 15 °C and 87% for both methods, with CO2 removal costs of 37 EUR/t CO2 and 36.7 EUR/t CO2, respectively. With 19 m of packing height to absorber, the minimum CO2 capture cost was calculated as 37.3 EUR/t and 37.1 EUR/t for the EDF and Power Law methods, respectively. Since there was a difference between the Power Law method and the EDF method, a size factor exponent derivation was performed. The derivation resulted in the following exponents: for the lean heat exchanger 0.74, for the lean/rich heat exchanger 1.03, for the condenser 0.68, for the reboiler 0.92, for the pump 0.88, and for the fan 0.23. Mexico is home to 40% of the pine species in the world. By the year 2050, 20% of the Mexican forests could be lost because of climate change and other human-related activities. In this paper, we determine the potential areas for seed collecting of four species of the genus Pinus and its ex situ economic value under different future Climate Change Scenarios (CCS). The species analyzed were Pinus oocarpa Schiede ex Schltdl, P. rudis Endl., P. culminícola Andresen et Beaman and P. leiophylla Schiede ex Schltdl. and Cham which together accounts for 19% of the timber production in Mexico. Potential areas of distribution of populations in habitats with Annual Mean Maximum Temperatures (AMMT) for seed collection were modelled through a Geographic Information System and climate database. The seed storage economic value was determined by using the Collection Cost Method. The AMMT of P. oocarpa, P. rudis, P. culminícola and P. leiophylla were 28 °C, 20 °C, 18.3 °C and 27.4 °C, respectively. The economic losses from shortages of these species due to CCS in 2050, were estimated of 88.5 million (USD) and 67.16 million (USD) with severe and conservative future CCS, respectively. The nominal investment rate would be 8.84% or more, for storing seeds of the four species and withstanding climate change. An ex situ seed bank is a medium and long-term investment; among its benefits are establishing a market price for the use and conservation of species in the face of possible adverse scenarios. The pollution caused by gas flaring is hazardous to the health of flora, fauna, and humans settled around the flaring site. Gas flaring also incurs economic loss as natural gas, an energy source, is wasted in flares. Furthermore, the unreliable electrical infrastructure is a roadblock for oil and gas companies attempting to achieve their production targets. This paper presents a framework to design hybrid energy systems (HES) which utilize the gas flare waste along with the locally available renewable energy sources to generate electricity. A novel dispatch strategy to suit the requirements of the oil and gas fields has been used for real-time simulations and optimization of the HES. As a test case, six different hybrid energy configurations, modelled for two gas flaring sites, Lakwa and Geleky in Assam—India, were analyzed and compared on the basis of economic and environmental factors. The best suitable configuration comprised 2000 kW solar photovoltaic (PV) panel sets, one 200 kW gas microturbine, two 30 kW gas microturbines, and grid connection. The proposed system economically outperformed the existing power system in the area by 35.52% in terms of the net present cost. Moreover, it could save 850 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, and it has a renewable fraction of 93.7% in the total energy generation. This work focuses on the mathematical analysis of the controlled release of a standardized extract of A. chica from chitosan/alginate (C/A) membranes, which can be used for the treatment of skin lesions. Four different types of C/A membranes were tested: a dense membrane (CA), a dense and flexible membrane (CAS), a porous membrane (CAP) and a porous and flexible membrane (CAPS). The Arrabidae chica extract release profiles were obtained experimentally in vitro using PBS at 37 °C and pH 7. Experimental data of release kinetics were analyzed using five classical models from the literature: Zero Order, First Order, Higuchi, Korsmeyer–Peppas and Weibull functions. Results for the Korsmeyer–Peppas model showed that the release of A. chica extract from four membrane formulations was by a diffusion through a partially swollen matrix and through a water filled network mesh; however, the Weibull model suggested that non-porous membranes (CA and CAS) had fractal geometry and that porous membranes (CAP and CAPS) have highly disorganized structures. Nevertheless, by applying an explicit optimization method that employs a cost function to determine the model parameters that best fit to experimental data, the results indicated that the Weibull model showed the best simulation for the release profiles from the four membranes: CA, CAS and CAP presented Fickian diffusion through a polymeric matrix of fractal geometry, and only the CAPS membrane showed a highly disordered matrix. With the increasing complexity of aircraft development programs, the development processes of aircraft and their subsystems are continuously becoming complicated, leading to the growing risks of development cost across the entire life cycle. In this study, we proposed a model-based systems engineering approach to support process modeling of aircraft development using a multi-architecture modeling language KARMA. Simultaneously, property verification and hybrid automata simulation were used to implement the static cost analysis of each work task and dynamic cost analysis of the entire development process. Finally, a development process model of aircraft avionics system was created using a case study, in which cost analysis is implemented by the KARMA language. From the result, we found that the KARMA language enables the integration of the process modeling with static and dynamic analyses of the development process in a multi-architecture modeling tool MetaGraph 2.0. The availability of clinical decision support systems (CDSS) and other methods for personalizing medicine now allows evaluation of their real-world impact on healthcare delivery. For example, addressing issues associated with polypharmacy in older patients using pharmacogenomics (PGx) and comprehensive medication management (CMM) is thought to hold great promise for meaningful improvements across the goals of the Quadruple Aim. However, few studies testing these tools at scale, using relevant system-wide metrics, and under real-world conditions, have been published to date. Here, we document a reduction of ~$7000 per patient in direct medical charges (a total of $37 million over 5288 enrollees compared to 22,357 non-enrolled) in Medicare Advantage patients (≥65 years) receiving benefits through a state retirement system over the first 32 months of a voluntary PGx-enriched CMM program. We also observe a positive shift in healthcare resource utilization (HRU) away from acute care services and toward more sustainable and cost-effective primary care options. Together with improvements in medication risk assessment, patient/provider communication via pharmacist-mediated medication action plans (MAP), and the sustained positive trends in HRU, we suggest these results validate the use of a CDSS to unify PGx and CMM to optimize care for this and similar patient populations. Forest mechanisation plays an important role in increasing labour productivity and reducing production costs. This work aims at evaluating various logging scenarios in Calabrian pine high forests, considering technical, economic and environmental aspects. The cut-to-length system was adopted and structured as follows: felling and processing operations were carried out using a medium-sized chainsaw while extraction of the processed material was carried out using three different vehicles for timber extraction: (i) by cable skidder, (ii) by grapple skidder and (iii) by a forwarder. The methodology was based on productivity analysis and production cost analysis, while for environmental performance, the life cycle assessment (LCA) approach was adopted. The selected functional unit (FU) was referred to as 1 h of logging operations. However, to assess the resulting usefulness, further analyses were performed using an alternative FU consisting of 1 m3 of round wood. This work presents the Water Energy Point Absorber (WEPA), which is a heaving single-buoy point absorber optimized for a specific site off the west coast of Sardinia Island. The aim of the study is to present the optimization process undertaken to identify the best configuration in terms of performance and cost. The optimization is carried out thanks to a simulation tool developed in Matlab-Simulink environment and verified through to the commercial software Orcaflex. Simulations are performed in the time domain with the installation site's waves as input. The hydrodynamics parameters are computed thanks to the commercial software Ansys Aqwa and given to the model as input. The yearly energy production is computed as output for each configuration. Several parametric analyses are performed to identify the optimal Power Take Off (PTO) and buoy size. Among the main findings, it shall be mentioned that the PTO-rated torque has a strong influence on the energy production, higher PTO-rated torque proved to have better performance. The optimal hull size is strictly related to the incoming waves, and for the given site the smaller hulls are performing better than larger ones. The hull height, hull mass and hull draft have little impact on productivity. Finally, a comprehensive techno–economic analysis is performed, showing that the best configuration can be identified only after a detailed feasibility study and rigorous cost analysis.
