This paper presents a study on the effects of graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) on the mechanical behavior of 3D-printed burnt clay, the most sustainable and green construction material, under constant printing parameters. Mixes with different nanofilament contents—0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.3% by clay weight—were printed and tested under compression and bending loadings. The results obtained on the printed samples were compared with those fabricated using the molding method. The samples' microstructures were then analyzed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis was employed to obtain the elemental distributions. The testing results were then statistically analyzed using a t-statistical method to investigate the impact of using GNPs on the properties of 3D-printed clay. Strength test results showed that mixes containing a low GNP content, i.e., 0.1 wt.%, attained higher compressive and flexural strengths than those containing higher contents, i.e., 0.2 and 0.3wt.%. The results additionally highlighted that the efficiency of GNPs was better observed in the printed samples rather than the molded ones, indicating that the printing process contributed to a better and more uniform dispersion of GNPs in the clay matrix. The t-statistical analysis confirmed that a significant improvement in compressive strength could be obtained using a GNP content of 0.1 wt.%, regardless of the fabrication method. On the other hand, significant flexural strength improvements were observed in the printed samples at all GNP dosages. Micrographs of GNP-modified clay supported the strength results obtained in this study. To design more environmentally friendly, economical, and efficient demulsifiers for oily wastewater treatment, hydrophobic octadecylphosphonic acid (ODPA)-modified Fe3O4 nanoparticles (referred to as Fe3O4@ODPA) were prepared by condensation of hydroxyl groups between ODPA and Fe3O4 nanoparticles using the co-precipitation method. The prepared magnetite nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric/differential thermogravimetric (TG/DTG) analysis. The water contact angles (θW) of Fe3O4@ODPA nanoparticles were more than 120°, indicating hydrophobic nature, and the diameter of the obtained spherical-shaped magnetite nanoparticles was 12–15 nm. The ODPA coating amount (AO) (coating weight per gram Fe3O4) and specific surface area (SO) of Fe3O4@ODPA were 0.124–0.144 g·g−1 and 78.65–91.01 m2·g−1, respectively. To evaluate the demulsification ability, stability, and reusability, the magnetite nanoparticles were used to demulsify an n-hexane-in-water nanoemulsion. The effects of the magnetite nanoparticle dosage (CS), pH value of nanoemulsion, and NaCl or CaCl2 electrolytes on the demulsification efficiency (RO) were investigated. The RO of Fe3O4@ODPA samples was found to be higher than that of bare Fe3O4 samples (S0, ST, and SN) under all CS values. With the increase in CS, the RO of Fe3O4@ODPA samples initially increased and then approached equilibrium value at Cs = 80.0 g·L−1. A maximum RO of ~93% was achieved at CS = 100.0 g·L−1 for the Fe3O4@ODPA sample S2. The pH and two electrolytes had a minor effect on RO. The Fe3O4@ODPA nanoparticles maintained high RO even after being reused for demulsification 11 times. This indicates that the hydrophobic Fe3O4@ODPA samples can be used as an effective magnetite demulsifer for oil-in-water nanoemulsions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to examine the impact of the direct and indirect mixing techniques on the dispersion and homogeneity of magnesium oxide (MgO) and silver (Ag) nanoparticles (NPs) mixed with polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). NPs were mixed with PMMA powder directly (non-ethanol-assisted) and indirectly (ethanol-assisted) with the aid of ethanol as solvent. X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to evaluate the dispersion and homogeneity of MgO and Ag NPs within the PMMA-NPs nanocomposite matrix. Prepared discs of PMMA-MgO and PMMA-Ag nanocomposite were analyzed for dispersion and agglomeration by Stereo microscope. XRD showed that the average crystallite size of NPs within PMMA-NP nanocomposite powder was smaller in the case of ethanol-assisted mixing compared to non-ethanol-assisted mixing. Furthermore, EDX and SEM revealed good dispersion and homogeneity of both NPs on PMMA particles with ethanol-assisted mixing compared to the non-ethanol-assisted one. Again, the PMMA-MgO and PMMA-Ag nanocomposite discs were found to have better dispersion and no agglomeration with ethanol-assisted mixing when compared to the non-ethanol-assisted mixing technique. The development of 3D-printed crown resin materials with improved mechanical and physical properties is an area of growing interest in dentistry. This study aimed to develop a 3D-printed crown resin material modified with zirconia glass (ZG) and glass silica (GS) microfillers to enhance overall mechanical and physical properties. A total of 125 specimens were created and divided into five groups: control unmodified resin, 5% either ZG or GS reinforced 3D-printed resin, and 10% either ZG or GS reinforced 3D-printed resin. The fracture resistance, surface roughness, and translucency parameter were measured, and fractured crowns were studied under a scanning electron microscope. The results showed that 3D-printed parts that were strengthened with ZG and GS microfillers demonstrated comparable mechanical performance to unmodified crown resin but resulted in greater surface roughness, and only the group that contained 5% ZG showed an increase in translucency. However, it should be noted that increased surface roughness may impact the aesthetics of the crowns, and further optimisation of microfillers concentrations may be necessary. These findings suggest that the newly developed dental-based resins that incorporate microfillers could be suitable for clinical applications, but further studies are necessary to optimise the nanoparticle concentrations and investigate their long-term clinical outcomes. The aeronautical industry constantly strives for efficient technologies to facilitate hole-making in CFRP/Ti6Al4V structural components. The prime challenge in this direction is excessive tool wear because of the different engineering properties of both materials. Nanofluid minimum quantity lubrication (NF-MQL) is the latest technology to provide synergistic improvement in tool tribological properties and lubrication function during machining. In the current study, an MoS2-based NF-MQL system was applied during helical milling using a FIREX-coated tool. In-depth analysis of wear, a scanning electron microscope (SEM), and electron deposition spectroscopy (EDS) were used to evaluate workpiece elemental transfer and tool wear mechanisms. Experimental findings showed that 1% nanoparticles concentration in lubricant resulted in low tool wear of 13 µm after 10 holes. The SEM and EDS analyses depicted formation of tribo-film on the surface, resulting less severe wear and a reduced degree of adhesion. However, a low nanoparticle concentration of 0.5% resulted in 106 µm tool wear after 10 holes with slight evidence of tribo-film. Parametric analysis based on eccentricity, spindle speeds (individual for CFRP and Ti6Al4V), axial pitch, and tangential feed showed correlations with mechanical damage. An extended study of up to 200 holes showed diffusion of C element at a high rate as compared to metal elements such as W and Co. The lowest tool wear was observed using eccentricity level 1, spindle speed Ti6Al4V 1000 rpm, spindle speed CFRP 7500 rpm, tangential feed 0.01 mm/tooth, axial pitch 1.5 mm, and 1% of MoS2 nanoparticles. In recent years, many researchers have focused on the preparation of carbon and basalt fiber-reinforced composites. As a result, the composites have gained popularity as an alternative to traditional materials such as wood, steel, and aluminum. Carbon and basalt fibers were used in a bidirectional woven mat, with particulates varying from 0 to 15 wt% nanoparticle SiC. The hybrid laminates were fabricated through vacuum bag infusion methods. The novelty of the research work lies in studying the influence of nanoparticle SiC-combined carbon and basalt fibers arranged in six stacking sequences, with LY556 used as polyester matrix. Specimens were prepared and tested as per ASTM standards. Tensile, flexural, impact, and hardness tests were performed on the obtained specimens and average values were obtained. It was found that 15% SiC filler addition enhanced (20%) the mechanical properties. Scanning electron microscope photos revealed the bonding between the fiber mat and the matrix of thecrystal structure. The obtained tensile strength was 346 MPa and the flexural strength was 388 MPa. Dynamic mechanical analysis showed that mechanical properties were improved with the addition of 15% SiCnanoparticles. In this paper, we discuss the preparation of Li-doped ZnO nanostructures through combustion and report on their structural, morphological, optical, and electrocatalysis properties. X-ray diffraction analyses show that the samples have a structure crystallized into the usual hexagonal wurtzite ZnO structure according to the P63mc space group. The scanning electron microscope images conceal all samples' nanosphere bundles and aggregates. The reflectance spectra analysis showed that the direct bandgap values varied from 3.273 eV (for pure ZnO, i.e., ZnL1) to 3.256 eV (for high Li-doped ZnO). The measured capacitance concerning frequency has estimated the variation of dielectric constant, dielectric loss, and AC conductivity against AC electric field frequency. The dielectric constant variations and AC conductivity are analyzed and discussed by well-known models such as Koop's phenomenological theory and Jonscher's law. The Raman spectra have been recorded and examined for the prepared samples. Rhodamine B was electro-catalytically degraded in all prepared samples, with the fastest time for ZnL5 being 3 min. This work was aimed to assess the antidiabetic effect of orally administered Prosochit®-based nanoparticles of insulin in an animal model. Five batches of insulin-loaded nanoparticles were prepared as dry water-in-oil-in-water emulsions using different emulsifiers (prosopis gum, Prosochit® 201, Prosochit® 101, Prosochit® 102, and chitosan) for the outer emulsion. Unloaded Prosochit® 101-based nanoparticles were also formulated. The morphology and size distribution of the nanoparticles were studied using a scanning electron microscope and Zetasizer. Forty alloxan-induced diabetic Wistar rats were divided into eight groups. The different groups were administered daily with different formulations (unloaded nanoparticles, the 5 loaded nanoparticles equivalent to 50 IU insulin per kg, purified water, and Actrapid) for 14 days. Blood glucose level was monitored and determined over 24 h. Fasting blood sugar was also taken on days 3, 5, 7, and 14. A graph of the percent blood glucose level relative to time 0 h was plotted against time. The particles showed a water-in-oil-in-water constitution. Both the drug-loaded and the unloaded Prosochit®-based nanoparticles were of nano dimension. There was a significant difference (p < 0.0001) in the antidiabetic effects of all insulin-loaded nanoparticles compared with the negative control. There was no significant difference across the insulin-loaded nanoparticles of prosopis gum, Prosochit® 201, Prosochit® 102, and chitosan while the insulin-loaded Prosochit® 101 nanoparticles showed the best activity, which is comparable to subcutaneous insulin, reducing blood glucose levels to 32.20 ± 3.79%. All the oral Prosochit®-based insulin nanoparticles are characterized by appreciable antidiabetic activity with the activity of Prosochit® 101-based nanoformulation being comparable to that of the subcutaneous insulin. An innovative polymer-based electro-sensor decorated with Tb nanoparticles has been developed for the first time. The fabricated sensor was utilized for trace determination of favipiravir (FAV), a recently US FDA-approved antiviral drug for the treatment of COVID-19. Different techniques, including ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry (UV-VIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), were applied for the characterization of the developed electrode TbNPs@ poly m-THB/PGE. Various experimental variables, including pH, potential range, polymer concentration, number of cycles, scan rate and deposition time, were optimized. Moreover, different voltammetric parameters were examined and optimized. The presented SWV method showed linearity over the range of 10–150 × 10−9 M with a good correlation coefficient (R = 0.9994), and the detection limit (LOD) reached 3.1 × 10−9 M. The proposed method was applied for the quantification of FAV in tablet dosage forms and in human plasma without any interference from complex matrices, obtaining good % recovery results (98.58–101.93%). In the current world of coatings and nanomaterials, specifically bearings, zinc, chromium, nickel, diamond-like coatings, and molybdenum disulfide are being used, to name but a few. Boron nitride in various forms has been used to enhance the surface properties, such as hardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance of dies, tools, etc. In this paper, a significant focus is being given to the improvement of the surface properties of bearing-steel materials by the impregnation of cubic and hexagonal boron nitride nanoparticles. The vacuum heat treatment method is used for treating the sample pins of material equivalents to EN31. In the design of the experiments, the Taguchi method with L27 orthogonal array is used for the optimization of various parameters, such as the weight % of c-BN and h-BN nanoparticles and the temperature of the vacuum treatment. With the help of preliminary experimentation, the three levels of three parameters are decided. The microhardness analysis shows an improvement from 321 HV0.1 to 766 HV0.1 for a 50 µm case depth of nanoparticle impregnation. The evaluation of the influence of selected factors is also performed using ANOVA and the S/N ratio, and it was revealed that hex boron nitride (h-BN) affects the microhardness value more than the other two factors. The friction and wear testing reveal that the wear properties are improved by approximately 1.6 times, and the frictional force also decreases by approx. 1.4 times. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis shows that the nanoparticles are penetrated by 21.09% and 46.99% atomic weight. In this paper, inorganic oxide MgO nanoparticles-doped polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) films were made from a mixture of the prepolymer, SLC1717 liquid crystal, and MgO nanoparticles by the polymerization induced phase separation (PIPS) process. To observe the effect of MgO concentration, PDLC was dispersed with 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8 wt.% MgO. Electro-optical properties of the films have been investigated using LCD parameter meter and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) at room temperature. It is established that MgO nanoparticles affect the microstructure of PDLC films significantly because of the formed agglomerates of MgO nanoparticles. Results show an improvement in the electro-optical properties and a decrease in the driving voltage for doped systems with MgO nanoparticles. When the doping amount of MgO is 0.8 wt.%, the threshold voltage (Vth) is reduced to about 7.5 V. Therefore, MgO-doped PDLC is expected to become an excellent choice in the field of energy-saving. Soft reliner and glaze are materials used over full or partial dental prosthesis to prevent excessive pressure on the supporting tissues. They are also indicated as supportive treatment for dental stomatitis, especially when modified by the addition of medications. The objective of the work was to evaluate the antimicrobial effect of silver-coated silica nanoparticles in a glaze and a soft reliner. The nanoparticles were synthesized, characterized, and tested by minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for C. albicans SC5314. Then, the nanoparticles were incorporated to a glaze and a soft reliner, which were called nanocomposites. Then, the nanocomposites were divided into six groups (n = 12): CG: glaze/reliner; CR: reliner; G1: glaze + 1% nanoparticles/reliner; G2: glaze + 2.5% nanoparticles/reliner; R1: reliner + 1%; R2: reliner + 2.5%. The nanocomposites were characterized by a goniometer and by a scanning electron microscope. The antibiofilm test was performed against C. albicans SC5314. According to the MIC results, the non-functionalized nanoparticles reduced fungal growth at 1000 μg/mL and the functionalized nanoparticles at 2000 μg/mL. The functionalized nanoparticle had a superior dispersion being selected for the antibiofilm test. There was a reduction of 64% in CFU/specimen count for the glaze, not statistically significant (p = 0.244). For the soft reliner, there was an increase in CFU/specimen with the presence of nanoparticles, still not statistically significant (p = 0.264). Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a Gram-positive bacteria considered one of the leading causes of community and hospital-acquired illnesses or public health concerns. Antibiotic resistance in this microorganism is one of the greatest issues in global health care. The use of metal nanoparticles and their oxides is one of the potential approaches to combating bacteria resistance to antibiotics. The antibacterial properties of ZnO NPs against enterotoxigenic S. aureus were studied. ZnO NPs were tested in vitro by agar diffusion test. They resulted in 26 and 22 mm zones of inhibition for a size of 20 nm and a concentration of 20 mM against 105 and 107 CFU/mL S. aureus, respectively. The MIC of ZnO NPs of various sizes, 20 and 50 nm, with 105 CFU/mL was 2.5 and 5 mM, respectively. MIC with 107 CFU/mL was five mM for 20 and 50 nm ZnO NPs. Further, the highest growth reduction percentage, 98.99% in the counts of S. aureus was achieved by ZnO NPs of size 20 nm and concentration of 10 mM. Moreover, the obtained ELISA results indicated a significantly decreased concentration of enterotoxin A with all concentrations and sizes of ZnO NPs. PCR analysis showed a significant effect on sea gene in response to ZnO NPs treatments leading to loss of the gene, unlike the unaffected nuc gene. Biofilms are matrix-enclosed communities of bacteria that are highly resistant to antibiotics. Adding nanomaterials with antibacterial activity to the implant surfaces may be a great solution against biofilm formation. Due to its potent and widespread antibacterial effect, silver nanoparticles were considered the most potent agent with different biological activities. In the present investigation, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were newly synthesized as antibiofilm agents using sugarcane process byproduct (molasses) and named Mo-capped AgNPs. The synthesized nanoparticles showed promising antimicrobial activity against S. aureus ATCC 6538 and C. albicans DAY185. Statistically designed optimization through response surface methodology was evaluated for maximum activity and better physical characteristics, namely the nanoparticles' size and polydispersity index (PDI), and it was revealed that molasses concentration was the main effective factor. Minimal biofilm eradication concentration (MBEC) of Mo-capped AgNPs against S. aureus ATCC 6538 and C. albicans DAY185 was 16 and 32 µg/mL, respectively. Scanning electron microscope study of Mo-capped AgNP-treated biofilm revealed that AgNPs penetrated the preformed biofilm and eradicated the microbial cells. The optimally synthesized Mo-capped AgNPs were spherically shaped, and the average size diameter ranged between 29 and 88 nm with high proportions of Ag+ element (78.0%) recorded. This study aims at the characterisation of red and orange glass tesserae from the 4th-century Roman villa of Noheda (Spain). Due to the limited number of analyses available for such ancient materials, many questions remain unanswered about the production processes in the Roman period. Six samples were chosen for their hue variations, including two samples showing banded patterns of red and orange. Differences in copper speciation were investigated by X-ray absorption spectroscopy and compared with colour and compositional variations obtained by EPMA. The shapes and sizes of colouring crystals could be investigated using scanning and transmission electron microscope imaging. The brown-red colour is due to metallic copper nano-particles and corresponds to a low-copper and low-lead group usually described in the literature. The orange samples and bands are coloured by copper oxide C u 2 O nanoparticles with remaining Cu+ in the glass and have greater contents of Cu. Compositional analyses reveal that the same base glass is used in the red and orange bands with additions of Cu, Sn, Pb and probable Fe. Furthermore, based on our results and on the literature review, a high-copper low-lead group of glasses highlights the variability of compositions observed in cuprite colours. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article attempts to highlight a phenomenon that more or less permanently damages emulsion paint layers, the surfaces of which remain sufficiently permeable for dust particles to become permanently anchored there; when the particles are nanometric, this can cause a permanent change in appearance. Based on scientific documents, empirical observations, laboratory analyses, case studies, and reconstructions of characteristic pictorial layers, this paper aims to highlight the medium- and long-term risks that alter these surfaces, in order to realize strategies for better prevention. The physico-chemical nature of these vulnerable materials will be discussed first, followed by the dust's involvement; finally, the topic will be illustrated through concrete examples, with photos taken using digital, 4 K optical, and Scanning Electron Microscope equipment (SEM), in order to show how the problem of dust particle accumulation impacts even the most contemporary works of art. Iron oxide nanoparticles are produced using simple auto combustion methods with honey as a metal-stabilizing and -reducing agent. Herein, α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles are produced using an iron nitrate precursor. These prepared samples are analyzed by an X-ray diffractometer (XRD), FTIR spectroscopy, UV-DRS, and a field-emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) combined with energy-dispersive spectroscopy and a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The XRD results confirm a rhombohedral structure with an R3 c ¯ space group single-phase formation of α-Fe2O3 in all samples. FESEM images reveal the different morphologies for the entire three samples. TEM analysis exhibits spherical shapes and their distribution on the surfaces. XPS spectroscopy confirms the Fe-2p and O-1s state and their valency. The VSM study shows strong ferromagnetic behavior. The prepared α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles exhibit exceptional charge carriers and radical production. The prepared sample retains excellent photocatalytic, antifungal and antibacterial activity. The gas sensitivity of semiconductor metal oxides, such as γ-Fe2O3 and SnO2, is investigated together with the synergistic effects in conjunction with grapheme. Nanoparticles of γ-Fe2O3, γ-Fe2O3/SnO2, and γ-Fe2O3/SnO2/RGO, prepared by two-step fabrication, were assembled in gas-sensing devices to assess their sensitivities; response and recovery times for the detection of ethanol, methanol, isopropanol, formaldehyde, H2S, CO, and NO gases at different temperatures but constant concentrations of 100 particles per million (ppm); and H2S, which underwent the dynamic gas sensitivity test in different concentrations. Each sample's crystallinity and microscopic morphology was investigated with X-ray diffraction and a scanning electron microscope. In comparative gas sensitivity measurements, the ternary composite of γ-Fe2O3/SnO2/RGO was identified as an ideal candidate, as it responds to all four tested liquids in the gas phase as well as H2S with a response value equal to 162.6. Further, only the ternary composite γ-Fe2O3/SnO2/RGO hybrid nanoparticles responded to NO gas with a sensor response value equal to 4.09 in 12 s. However, only the binary composite γ-Fe2O3/SnO2 responded to CO with a corresponding sensitivity of 1.59 units in 7 s. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nano-technology has played a vital role in upgrading the durability and sustainability of asphalt pavements during the last decade. Conventional bitumen does not provide adequate performance against permanent deformation in severe weather conditions. Quartz nano-size particles (QNPs) (1, 3, and 5% by weight of the bitumen) were employed in this research to modify the conventional base bitumen PG 58–16. Conventional physical (penetration, softening, ductility, and flash and fire point), rheological, frequency sweep, high-performance grading, and moisture susceptibility tests were performed to investigate the enhancement of the base bitumen performance. Marshall mix design was conducted on each asphalt mixture to determine the optimum bitumen content (OBC) percentage for the preparation of wheel tracker samples to evaluate the effect of QNPs on asphalt mixtures. Laboratory test findings showed that the optimum concentration of QNPs is 5% by weight of base bitumen. The homogeneity and proper stable dispersion of QNPs in the bitumen were validated via scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and storage stability tests. At higher temperatures, the QNP-modified asphalt mixtures exhibited higher stiffness, stripping resistance, and rutting potential. The metabolites of the fungal strain Rhizopus oryaze were used as a biocatalyst for the green-synthesis of magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO-NPs). The production methodology was optimized to attain the maximum productivity as follows: 4 mM of precursor, at pH 8, incubation temperature of 35 °C, and reaction time of 36 h between metabolites and precursor. The as-formed MgO-NPs were characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, TEM, SEM-EDX, XRD, DLS, FT-IR, and XPS analyses. These analytical techniques proved to gain crystalline, homogenous, and well-dispersed spherical MgO-NPs with an average size of 20.38 ± 9.9 nm. The potentiality of MgO-NPs was dose- and time-dependent. The biogenic MgO-NPs was found to be a promising antimicrobial agent against the pathogens including Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans with inhibition zones of 10.6 ± 0.4, 11.5 ± 0.5, 13.7 ± 0.5, 14.3 ± 0.7, and 14.7 ± 0.6 mm, respectively, at 200 μg mL–1. Moreover, MgO-NPs manifested larvicidal and adult repellence activity against Culex pipiens at very low concentrations. The highest decolorization percentages of tanning effluents were 95.6 ± 1.6% at 100 µg/ 100 mL after 180 min. At this condition, the physicochemical parameters of tannery effluents, including TSS, TDS, BOD, COD, and conductivity were reduced with percentages of 97.9%, 98.2%, 87.8%, 95.9%, and 97.3%, respectively. The preparation of copper manganite (hopcalite, Cu1.5Mn1.5O4), as a single phase, was achieved by using a sustainable method of green synthesis. This method is based on the replacement of the conventional "brute force" ceramic preparation by the recent "soft force" green synthesis via the egg white assisted one-step method. In other words, we present a facile and rapid methodology to prepare the nanocrystalline Cu1.5Mn1.5O4 spinel as a single phase, compared to our previous work using ceramic and glycine-assisted combustion methods. The as-synthesized copper manganite was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). We used a vibrating sample magnetometer to determine the magnetic properties of the prepared sample (VSM). XRD, FTIR, SEM, EDS and transmittance electron micrograph (TEM) resulted in synthesis of a successful cubic spinel Cu1.5Mn1.5O4 system with a sponge crystal structure. The particles of the prepared materials are polycrystalline in their nature and the sizes ranged between 50 and 100 nm. The magnetic measurement demonstrated that the generated nanostructure has been found to exhibit ferromagnetism at room temperature with an optimum saturation magnetization value (0.2944 emu/g). The presence of the polycationic macromolecule poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (poly-DADMAC) has a strong effect on the shape and size of colloidal gold nanoparticles formed by the reduction of tetrachloroauric acid with ascorbic acid in aqueous solution. It slows down nanoparticle growth and supports the formation of nonspherical, partially highly fractal and hierarchical nanoparticle shapes. Four structural levels have been recognized from the near-spherical gold nanoparticles in the lower nanometer range over compact aggregates in the midnanometer range and flower and star-like particles in the submicron range up to larger filamentous aggregates. High-contrast scanning electron microscope (SEM) images show that single gold nanoparticles and clusters of them are connected by bundles of macromolecules in large aggregates. The investigation showed that a large spectrum of different nanoparticle shapes and sizes can be accessed by tuning the poly-DADMAC concentrations and their ratio to other reactants. Ceria nanoparticles (CeO2 NPs) are generally considered in various functional applications, such as catalysts in fuel cells, sensors, and antioxidant and oxidase-like enzymes in the biological environment. The CeO2 NPs were synthesized using the E. globulus leaf extract-mediated hydrothermal technique. The synthesized NPs were characterized by various analytical instruments including powder X-ray diffractometer (PXRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) analysis. The XRD results showed an average NPs sizes of 13.7 nm. Cytotoxic study results showed an IC50 value of 45.5 µg/L for A549 and 58.2 µg/L for HCT 116, indicating that CeO2 NPs are more toxic to A549 compared to HCT116 cell lines. The generation of ROS was responsible for its cytotoxic activity against cancer cell lines. Specific surface area (40.96 m2/g) and pore diameter (7.8 nm) were measured using Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms. CeO2 NPs with a high surface area were used as photocatalyst in degrading sunset yellow (SY) dye under UV-irradiation and 97.3% of the dye was degraded within 90 min. In this study, structural colors were fabricated by producing an amorphous array with atypical silica particles. The colors were controlled by an array of silica particles with different sizes. In previous research, the process required inducement of the amorphous array, which was complex. Meanwhile, in this paper, we proposed a simple one-step process. First, spherical silica nanoparticles were synthesized using the sol-gel process of the Stöber method. Atypical silica particles that induced an amorphous array were produced by adding a small amount of phenol-formaldehyde resin. Subsequently, the colloidal silica was converted to a powder using a convection oven. The characteristics of the synthesized silica particles were confirmed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). All the synthesized silica powders obtained structural colors. Finally, the silica powders were dispersed in deionized (DI) water and coated on a glass slide. We confirmed that the silica particles showed different structural colors depending on the size of the particles. We also found that the color was highly independent of the viewing angle. The current study examines the potential of using calcium and magnesium hydroxide nanoparticles synthetized through a quick precipitation method as soil stabilizers for improving the engineering properties of tropical residual soil. The engineering properties of untreated and nanoparticles-treated soil were studied by carrying out a series of geotechnical tests including compaction, Atterberg limits, falling head permeability, and unconfined compressive strength (UCS). The stabilization mechanisms associated with soil–chemical reactions were further explored by performing microstructural analyses such as x-ray diffraction (XRD), variable-pressure scanning electron microscope (VP-SEM), and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The findings revealed that the calcium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide nanoparticles improved the geotechnical properties of residual soils in terms of reduced hydraulic conductivity and increased UCS. The percentage reduction of the hydraulic conductivity of magnesium and calcium hydroxide nanoparticles-treated soils compared to untreated soil after seven weeks of permeation were 85.14% and 98.70%, respectively. The magnesium and calcium hydroxide nanoparticles-treated soils subjected to 14 days of curing recorded a percentage increase in the UCS of 148.05% and 180.17%, respectively compared to untreated soil. Skin loss is one of the oldest and still not totally resolved problems in the medical field. Since spontaneous healing of the dermal defects would not occur, the regeneration of full thickness of skin requires skin substitutes. Tissue engineering constructs would provide a three dimensional matrix for the reconstruction of skin tissue and the repair of damage. The aim of the present work is to develop a chitin based scaffold, by blending it with poly(butylene succinate) (PBS), an aliphatic, biodegradable and biocompatible synthetic polymer with excellent mechanical properties. The presence of chondroitin sulfate nanoparticles (CSnp) in the scaffold would favor cell adhesion. A chitin/PBS/CSnp composite hydrogel scaffold was developed and characterized by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope), FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy), and swelling ratio of scaffolds were analyzed. The scaffolds were evaluated for the suitability for skin tissue engineering application by cytotoxicity, cell attachment, and cell proliferation studies using human dermal fibroblasts (HDF). The cytotoxicity and cell proliferation studies using HDF confirm the suitability of the scaffold for skin regeneration. Enhancement of the production yield of boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) with high purity was achieved using an amorphous boron-based precursor and a nozzle-type reactor. Use of a mixture of amorphous boron and Fe decreases the milling time for the preparation of the precursor for BNNTs synthesis, as well as the Fe impurity contained in the B/Fe interdiffused precursor nanoparticles by using a simple purification process. We also explored a nozzle-type reactor that increased the production yield of BNNTs compared to a conventional flow-through reactor. By using a nozzle-type reactor with amorphous boron-based precursor, the weight of the BNNTs sample after annealing was increased as much as 2.5-times with much less impurities compared to the case for the flow-through reactor with the crystalline boron-based precursor. Under the same experimental conditions, the yield and quantity of BNNTs were estimated as much as ~70% and ~1.15 g/batch for the former, while they are ~54% and 0.78 g/batch for the latter. Magnesium alloys are attractive for the production of lightweight parts in modern automobile and aerospace industries due to their advanced properties. Their mechanical properties are usually enhanced by the incorporation with reinforcement particles. In the current study, reinforced AZ31 magnesium alloy was fabricated through the addition of bulk Al and the incorporation of SiC nanoparticles using a stir casting process to obtain AZ31-SiC nanocomposites. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) investigations revealed the formation of Mg17Al12 lamellar intermetallic structures and SiC clusters in the nanocomposites. Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) detected the uniform distribution of SiC nanoparticles in the AZ31-SiC nanocomposites. Enhancements in hardness and yield strength (YS) were detected in the fabricated nanocomposites. This behavior was referred to a joint strengthening mechanisms which showed matrix-reinforcement coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and elastic modulus mismatches, Orowan strengthening, and load transfer mechanism. The mechanical properties and wear resistance were gradually increased with an increase in SiC content in the nanocomposite. The maximum values were obtained from nanocomposites containing 1 wt% of SiC (AZ31-1SiC). AZ31-1SiC nanocomposite YS and hardness were improved by 27% and 30%, respectively, compared to AZ31 alloy. Electrocatalytic water splitting is a promising solution to resolve the global energy crisis. Tuning the morphology and particle size is a crucial aspect in designing a highly efficient nanomaterials-based electrocatalyst for water splitting. Herein, green synthesis of nickel oxide nanoparticles using phytochemicals from three different sources was employed to synthesize nickel oxide nanoparticles (NiOx NPs). Nickel (II) acetate tetrahydrate was reacted in presence of aloe vera leaves extract, papaya peel extract and dragon fruit peel extract, respectively, and the physicochemical properties of the biosynthesized NPs were compared to sodium hydroxide (NaOH)-mediated NiOx. Based on the average particle size calculation from Scherrer's equation, using X-ray diffractograms and field-emission scanning electron microscope analysis revealed that all three biosynthesized NiOx NPs have smaller particle size than that synthesized using the base. Aloe-vera-mediated NiOx NPs exhibited the best electrocatalytic performance with an overpotential of 413 mV at 10 mA cm−2 and a Tafel slope of 95 mV dec−1. Electrochemical surface area (ECSA) measurement and electrochemical impedance spectroscopic analysis verified that the high surface area, efficient charge-transfer kinetics and higher conductivity of aloe-vera-mediated NiOx NPs contribute to its low overpotential values. In Fe-Mn-Al-Ni shape memory alloys, the stabilization of superelasticity would be affected by the undesired precipitation of B2 nano-particles during natural aging. In order to solve this problem, the effect of Mo alloying on the precipitation behavior of B2 nano-particles during the cooling and natural aging processes was performed by scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope and Vickers microhardness test in two Fe-Mn-Al-Ni-Mo shape memory alloys. The results showed that the formation of γ phase was completely suppressed after 15 °C and 80 °C water quenching as well as air cooling. However, B2 nano-particles were still precipitated after the three cooling processes, and their sizes and misfits increased with decreasing the cooling rates. In addition, the Vickers hardness increased after natural aging for 338 days, which indicated that it is not viable to inhibit the precipitation of B2 nano-particles during natural aging by Mo alloying in the Fe-Mn-Al-Ni shape memory alloys. Control over both dispersion and the particle size distribution of supported metal particles is of paramount importance for the catalytic activity of composite materials. We describe the synthesis of materials with Cu nanoparticles well-dispersed on different amine-functionalized supports, using the extract of Wallich Spurge as a green, reducing agent. Graphene oxide (GO), mesoporous silica (MCM-41), mesoporous zirconia, and reduced graphene oxide-mesoporous silica (RGO-MCM-41) were explored as supports. Cu nanoparticles were better stabilized on RGO-MCM-41 compared to other supports. The novel composite materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectra, Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Transmission electron microscopy analysis and HR-TEM. SEM and EDX techniques. High angle XRD confirmed the conversion of graphene oxide to reduced graphene oxide (RGO) with plant extract as a reducing agent. The catalytic activity of all the prepared materials for the Ullmann coupling reactions of carbon-, oxygen-, and nitrogen-containing nucleophiles with iodobenzene was evaluated. From the results, 5 wt% Cu on amine-functionalized reduced graphene oxide/mesoporous silica nanocomposite (5 wt%Cu(0)-AAPTMS@RGO-MCM-41) exhibited excellent efficiency with 97% yield of the C-C coupling product in water at 80 °C in 5 h. The effect of copper oxide and zinc oxide nanoparticles (NPs) on the mechanical and thermal properties of ground waste concrete inorganic polymers (GWC IPs) has been investigated. NPs are added to GWC IPs at loadings of 0.1, 0.5, 1, and 2% w/w. The phase composition and microstructure of NPs GWC IPs have also been examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope (SEM/EDS) techniques. Results show that the mechanical properties of GWC IPs are improved (23 MPa) due to addition of NPs (1% ZnO). In particular, GWC IPs embedded with 0.5% CuO and 1% ZnO NPs exhibited relatively improved compressive strength. The addition of NPs decreases the macroporosity and increases the mesoporosity of IPs matrix and decreases relatively the ability of IPs matrix to water absorption. To improve the water solubility of ursolic acid (UA), UA-loaded chitosan nanoparticles were firstly prepared by the ionotropic gelation method and dried by freeze drying (FD), microwave freeze drying (MFD) and spray drying (SD). The characterization of UA-loaded chitosan nanoparticles was performed with particle size, drug loading (DL), scanning electron microscope (SEM), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dissolution studies and antioxidant activity. The results demonstrated that UA was successfully encapsulated into chitosan nanoparticles using sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) as a cross-linker, with a 79% encapsulation efficiency. The spray-dried, UA-loaded chitosan nanoparticles had the lowest drug loading (11.8%) and the highest particle size (496.9 ± 11.20 nm). The particle size of UA-loaded chitosan nanoparticles dried by MFD and FD was lower, at 240.8 ± 12.10 nm and 184.4 ± 10.62 nm, respectively, and their antioxidant activity was higher than those nanoparticles dried by SD. Moreover, the drying time and energy consumption of UA-loaded chitosan nanoparticles dried by MFD and SD were lower than that of FD. The dissolution rates of UA-loaded chitosan nanoparticles prepared by FD and MFD were 60.6% and 57.1%, respectively, in a simulated gastric fluid, which was a greater value than SD (55.9%). Development of gas sensors displaying improved sensing characteristics including sensitivity, selectivity, and stability is now possible owing to tunable surface chemistry of the sensitive layers as well as favorable transport properties. Herein, zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4) nanoparticles (NPs) were produced using a microwave-assisted hydrothermal method. ZnFe2O4 NP sensing layer films with different thicknesses deposited on interdigitated alumina substrates were fabricated at volumes of 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 µL using a simple and inexpensive drop-casting technique. Successful deposition of ZnFe2O4 NP-based active sensing layer films onto alumina substrates was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and atomic force microscope analysis. Top view and cross-section observations from the scanning electron microscope revealed inter-agglomerate pores within the sensing layers. The ZnFe2O4 NP sensing layer produced at a volume of 2 μL exhibited a high response of 33 towards 40 ppm of propanol, as well as rapid response and recovery times of 11 and 59 s, respectively, at an operating temperature of 120 °C. Furthermore, all sensors demonstrated a good response towards propanol and the highest response against ethanol, methanol, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and methane. The results indicate that the developed fabrication strategy is an inexpensive way to enhance sensing response without sacrificing other sensing characteristics. Nanocomposite film of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) incorporated with bacterial cellulose nanocrystals (BCNCs) and magnetite nanoparticles (Fe3O4) is reported in this study. The BCNC-Fe3O4 nanoparticles and PVA film was prepared by in situ synthesis technique using chemical co-precipitation. Different concentrations of BCNC-Fe3O4 (20%, 40% and 60% w/w) were mechanically dispersed in PVA solution to form the nanocomposite film. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis of BCNC-Fe3O4 nanoparticles showed irregular particle sizes ranging from 4.93 to 30.44 nm with an average size distribution of 22.94 nm. The presence of characteristic functional groups of PVA, BCNC and Fe3O4 were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) attached energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) analysis revealed that, the iron content and magnetic property increased with increasing BCNC-Fe3O4 content. The saturation magnetizations (MS) value increased from 5.14 to 11.56 emu/g. The PVA/ BCNC-Fe3O4 at 60% showed the highest Young's modulus value of 2.35 ± 0.16 GPa. A series of copper-based systems containing two different nanocomposites (Cu2O/CuO and Cu2O/Cu) was synthesized by the egg white assisted auto-combustion route. This method was distinguished by the simplicity of its steps, low cost, one-pot synthesis process at low temperature and, short time. The characterization of the as prepared nanocomposites was carried out by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron micrograph (TEM), Energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) techniques. Surface and magnetic properties of the obtained systems were determined by using N2 adsorption/desorption isotherms at 77 K and the vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) technique. XRD results confirmed the formation of Cu2O/CuO and Cu2O/Cu nanocomposites with different ratios of well crystalline CuO, Cu2O, and Cu phases. FTIR results of the combusted product displays the presence of both CuO and Cu2O, respectively. SEM/EDS and TEM results confirm the formation of a porous nanocomposite containing Cu, O, and C elements. The change in concentration of the oxygen vacancies at the surface or interface of both Cu2O/CuO and Cu2O/Cu nanoparticles resulted in different changes in their magnetization. Based on this study, it is possible to obtain nanocomposite-based copper with multiple valances by a simple and inexpensive route which can be suitable for the fabrication of different transition metal composites. The droplet evaporation effect on the preparation of polyetherimide (PEI) nanoparticles by thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) was studied. PEI nanoparticles were prepared in two routes. In route I, the droplet evaporation process was carried out after TIPS. In route II, the droplet evaporation and TIPS processes were carried out simultaneously. The surface tension and shape parameters of samples were measured via a drop shape analyzer. The Z-average particle diameter of PEI nanoparticles in the PEI/dimethyl sulfoxide solution (DMSO) suspension at different time points was tested by dynamic light scattering, the data from which was used to determine the TIPS time of the PEI/DMSO solution. The natural properties of the products from both routes were studied by optical microscope, scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope. The results show that PEI nanoparticles prepared from route II are much smaller and more uniform than that prepared from route I. Circulation flows in the droplet evaporation were indirectly proved to suppress the growth of particles. At 30 °C, PEI solid nanoparticles with 193 nm average particle size, good uniformity, good separation and good roundness were obtained. Route I is less sensitive to temperature than route II. Samples in route I were still the accumulations of micro and nanoparticles until 40 °C instead of 30 °C in route II, although the particle size distribution was not uniform. In addition, a film structure would appear instead of particles when the evaporation temperature exceeds a certain value in both routes. In the present study, biocompatible manganese nanoparticles have been linked with zinc and iron molecules to prepare different derivatives of Mn0.5Zn0.5ErxYxFe2−2xO4 NPs (x = 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08, 0.10), using an ultrasonication approach. The structure, surface morphology, and chemical compositions of Mn0.5Zn0.5ErxYxFe2−2xO4 NPs were elucidated by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis (EDX) techniques. The bioactivity of Mn0.5Zn0.5ErxYxFe2−2xO4 NPs on normal (HEK-293) and (HCT-116) colon cancer cell line was evaluated. The Mn0.5Zn0.5ErxYxFe2−2xO4 NPs treatment post 48 h resulted in a significant reduction in cells (via MTT assay, having an IC50 value between 0.88 µg/mL and 2.40 µg/mL). The specificity of Mn0.5Zn0.5ErxYxFe2−2xO4 NPs were studied by treating them on normal cells line (HEK-293). The results showed that Mn0.5Zn0.5ErxYxFe2−2xO4 NPs did not incur any effect on HEK-293, which suggests that Mn0.5Zn0.5ErxYxFe2−2xO4 NPs selectively targeted the colon cancerous cells. Using Candida albicans, antifungal activity was also studied by evaluating minimum inhibitory/fungicidal concentration (MIC/MFC) and the effect of nanomaterial on the germ tube formation, which exhibited that NPs significantly inhibited the growth and germ tube formation. This paper studied the effect of additives of 0.5–20 wt.% synthetic CaSiO3 wollastonite on the thermodynamic, mechanical, and tribological characteristics and structure of polymer composite materials (PCM) based on ultra-high-molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). Using thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray fluorescence, scanning electron microscope, and laser light diffraction methods, it was shown that autoclave synthesis in the multicomponent system CaSO4·2H2O–SiO2·nH2O–KOH–H2O allows one to obtain neeindle-shaped nanosized CaSiO3 particles. It was shown that synthetic wollastonite is an effective filler of UHMWPE, which can significantly increase the deformation-strength and tribological characteristics of PCM. The active participation of wollastonite in tribochemical reactions occurring during friction of PCM by infrared spectroscopy was detected: new peaks related to oxygen-containing functional groups (hydroxyl and carbonyl) appeared. The effect of various combinations of filler materials on the performance of polypropylene (PP)-based composites was investigated. PP in particulate form was used as the matrix. Milled short carbon fiber (SCF) micro-size, graphite nano-platelet (GNP), and titanium dioxide nanoparticles (nTiO2) were used as fillers. These fillers were incorporated in the polymer matrix to produce mono-filler (PP/SCF and PP/nanofiller) and hybrid composites. Hybrid composites consist of PP/10SCF/GNP, PP/10SCF/nTiO2, and PP/10SCF/GNP/nTiO2. The effect of the addition of SCF, GNP, and nTiO2 on PP-based composites was investigated by analyzing their morphological, mechanical, and physical properties. The addition of mono-filler to the PP matrix improved the mechanical properties of the composites when compared to the neat PP. The ultimate tensile strength (UTS), flexural modulus, flexural strength, and impact toughness of the hybrid composites with 15 wt % total loading of fillers, were higher than that of mono-filler composites with 15 wt % SCF (PP/15SCF). A maximum increase of 20% in the flexural modulus was observed in the hybrid composite with 10 wt % of SCF with the additional of 2.5 wt % GNP and 2.5 wt % nTiO2 when compared to PP/15SCF composite. The addition of 2.5 wt % nTiO2 to the 10 wt % SCF reinforced PP, resulted in increasing the strain at break by 15% when compared to the PP/10SCF composite. A scanning electron microscope image of the PP/10SCF composite with the addition of GNP improved the interfacial bonding between PP and SCF compared with PP/SCF alone. Novel reduced graphene oxide-supported palladium nanoparticles (RGO-PN) were synthesized under ultrasonication, a method that utilizes Coleus amboinicus as a bio-reduction agent. Green synthesized RGO-PN nanoparticles with a crystallite size in the range of 40–50 nm were confirmed in X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra. RGO-PN show an absorption peak at 220 nm while reduced graphene oxide (RGO) shows its maximal absorbance at 210 nm. The scanning electron microscope image revealed that 40-nm-sized spherical-shaped palladium nanoparticles stick well to reduced graphene oxide sheets, which is consistent and correlated well with the XRD pattern. Moreover, a high-resolution morphological image of RGO-PN100 was obtained by TEM analysis, which shows the anchoring of palladium nanoparticles (PN) on RGO nanosheets. Green synthesized RGO-PN100 nanoparticles from Coleus amboinicus show better reduction kinetics for 4-nitrophenol at 40 min, suggesting that RGO-PN prepared from Coleus amboinicus serve as an excellent catalytic reducing agent. Furthermore, they show remarkable antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922). Thus, green synthesized RGO-supported palladium nanoparticles demonstrated that enhanced catalytic activity and antibacterial activity both play an important role in the environmental and medical disciplines. In the present work, we have reported a facile and large-scale synthesis of TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) through urea-assisted thermal decomposition of titanium oxysulphate. We have successfully synthesized TiO2 NPs by using this effective route with different weight ratios of titanium oxysulphate: urea. The structures and properties of TiO2 NPs were confirmed by scanning electron microscope) (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultra violet–visible spectroscopy (UV-vis), and photoluminescence (Pl) techniques. XRD demonstrated that TiO2 NPs holds of anatase crystal phase with crystallizing size 14–19 nm even after heating at 600 °C. TGA, SEM, and TEM images reveal urea's role, which controls the size, morphology, and aggregation of TiO2 NPs during the thermal decomposition. These TiO2 NPs were employed for photodegradation of Methyl Orange (MO) in the presence of ultraviolet (UV) radiation. An interesting find was that the TiO2 NPs exhibited better photocatalytic activity and excellent recycling stability over several photodegradation cycles. A binary carbonate salt eutectic (Li2CO3-K2CO3)-based nanofluid was in situ synthesized by mixing with a precursor material, aluminum nitrate nonahydrate (Al(NO3)3·9H2O). Thermal decomposition of the precursor was successfully carried out to synthesize alumina (Al2O3) nanoparticles at 1 wt.% concentration. A thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) confirmed a complete thermal decomposition of aluminum nitrate nonahydrate to alumina nanoparticles. A transmission electron microscope (TEM) was employed to confirm the size and shape of the in situ formed nanoparticles; the result showed that they are spherical in shape and the average size was 28.7 nm with a standard deviation of 11.7 nm. Electron dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) confirmed the observed nanoparticles are alumina nanoparticles. A scanning electron microscope (SEM) was employed to study microstructural changes in the salt. A differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) was employed to study the heat capacity of the in situ synthesized nanofluid. The result showed that the heat capacity was enhanced by 21% at 550 °C in comparison with pure carbonate salt eutectic. This study assessed the antimicrobial efficacy of synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles produced using aqueous extracts of pomegranate leaves and flowers designated ZnO-NPs-PL, ZnO-NPs-PF. In the study, oxides of zinc were successfully employed to fabricate nanoparticles using extracts from leaves and flowers of pomegranate (Punica granatum). The nanoparticles obtained were characterized spectroscopically. X-ray diffractive analysis (XRD) revealed the elemental components and nature of the synthesized particles. The fabricated zinc oxide nanoparticle (ZnO-NPs) showed a crystalline structure. The morphology of the nanoparticles as shown by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was unevenly spherical and the functional groups involved in stabilization, reduction and capping were confirmed using Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FT-IR) Spectroscopy. Confirmation of the nanoparticles by UV–Vis analysis showed absorption bands of 284 and 357 nm for pomegranate leaf and flower extract, respectively, mediated ZnO-NPs. Evaluation of the antimicrobial efficacy of the fabricated nanoparticles showed that ZnO-NPs were effective against all selected pathogenic strains, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Salmonella diarizonae, Salmonella typhi, Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecium, Escherichia coli, Moraxella catarrhalis, Aeromonas hydrophila and Listeria monocytogenes, used in the analysis. The effectiveness of these nanoparticles could be linked to their sizes and shapes as obtained using a transmission electron microscope (TEM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Our reports revealed that increasing the concentration of the nanoparticles resulted in an increase in the antibacterial activity exerted by the nanoparticles, thus suggesting that both ZnO-NPs can effectively be used as alternative antibacterial agents. Nanotechnology addresses numerous environmental problems such as wastewater treatment. Ground water, surface water and wastewater that is contaminated by toxic organic, inorganic solutes and pathogenic microorganisms can now be treated through the application of nanotechnology. The study reports iron@copper (Fe@Cu) nanoparticles, iron nanoparticles (FeNPs) and copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) synthesized using a bioflocculant in a green approach technique. Characterization of the as-synthesized materials was achieved using analytical techniques such as Fourier transform-Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), UV-Vis spectroscopy (UV-Vis) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The presence of hydroxyl (–OH) and amine (–NH2) groups was shown by FT-IR spectroscopy studies and the as-synthesized material was shown to be thermostable. Elements such as oxygen, carbon, iron and copper were found to be abundant in Wt%. Absorption peaks were found between 200 and 390 nm wavelength and diffraction peaks at 2θ –29°, 33° and 35° for FeNPs, CuNPs and Fe@Cu, respectively. In their application, the effect of various parameters on the flocculation activity were evaluated. Both the CuNPs and (Fe@Cu) nanoparticles have shown the best flocculation activity at a concentration of 0.2 mg/mL with over 90% activity, while the dosage size with a concentration of 0.4 mg/mL was optimal for FeNPs. The FeNPs were found to be cation dependent, while CuNPs and Fe@Cu nanoparticles flocculate in the absence of a cation and flocculate both in acidic and alkaline pH. All the synthesized nanoparticles are thermostable and maintain flocculation activity above 80% at 100 °C. Both the Fe@Cu and CuNPs were found to be effective in removing dyes with the removal efficiency above 89% and were found to be effective in removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) in Mzingazi river water and coal mine wastewater with over 80% removal efficiency. Moreover, the synthesized nanoparticles showed some remarkable antimicrobial properties when evaluated against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The as-synthesized material was found to be safe to use at low concentration when verified against human embryonic cells (HEK293) and breast cancer cells (MCF7) and biodegradable. The article discusses a study on the synthesis of tri-n-octylphosphine oxide (TOPO)-coated CdSe/ZnS microparticles. The study used an optical microscope and a scanning electron microscope in characterizing the microparticles. It found more than 100 particles to ensure a statistically representative size. Parkinson's disease (rp) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder. Ropinirole (RP) is a newer generation dopamine agonist used for the treatment of PD. It is prescribed as oral dosage form. However, limited oral bioavailability and frequent dosing limits the RP usage. The objective of the current investigation was to develop, optimize, evaluate pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PCD) activity of RP loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (RP-SLNs) and nanostructured lipid carriers (RP-NLCs) and containing hydrogel (RP-SLN-C and RP-NLC-C) formulations for improved oral and topical delivery. RP loaded lipid nanoparticles were optimized and converted to hydrogel using carbopol 934 as the gelling polymer. PK and PCD studies in haloperidol-induced PD were conducted in male Wistar rats. In vitro and ex vivo permeation studies showed sustained release profile and enhanced permeation compared with control formulations. Differential scanning calorimeter and X-ray diffraction studies revealed amorphous transformation; scanning electron microscope showed the spherical shape of RP in lipid nanoparticles. PK studies showed 2.1 and 2.7-folds enhancement from RP-SLN and RP-NLC from oral administration, 3.0 and 3.3-folds enhancement from RP-SLN-C and RP-NLC-C topical administration, compared with control formulations, respectively. RP-SLN-C and RP-NLC-C showed 1.4 and 1.2-folds topical bioavailability enhancement compared with RP-SLN and RP-NLC oral administration, respectively. PCD studies showed enhanced dopamine, glutathione, catalase levels and reduced lipid peroxidation levels, compared with the haloperidol-induced PD model. Overall, the results demonstrated that lipid nanoparticles and corresponding hydrogel formulations can be considered as an alternative delivery approach for the improved oral and topical delivery of RP for the effective treatment of PD. Antimicrobial medicine and food packages based on bio-based film containing essential oils have attracted great attention worldwide. However, the controlled release of essential oils from these film nanocomposites is still a big challenge. In this study, a long-term antibacterial film nanocomposite composed of zein film and cinnamon essential oil (CEO) loaded MCM-41 silica nanoparticles was prepared. The CEO was loaded into MCM-41 particles via modified supercritical impregnation efficiently with a high drug load (>40 wt%). The morphologies of the prepared nanoparticles and film nanocomposite were characterized by a scanning electron microscope. The release behaviors of CEO under different temperatures, high humidity, continuous illumination and in phosphate buffer solution (PBS) solution were investigated. The results showed that the film nanocomposite had an outstanding release-control effect. The addition of MCM-41 nanoparticles also improved the mechanical properties of zein films. The antibacterial effect of CEO was significantly prolonged by the film nanocomposite; indicating the CEO film nanocomposite fabricated via modified supercritical CO2 impregnation was a potential long-term antibacterial medicine or food package material. In order to study the effect of nano-CeO2 particles doping on the electrochemical corrosion behavior of pure Ni-Fe-Co-P alloy coating, Ni-Fe-Co-P-CeO2 composite coating is prepared on the surface of 45 steel by scanning electrodeposition. The morphology, composition, and phase structure of the composite coating are analyzed by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The corrosion behavior of the coatings with different concentrations of nano-CeO2 particles in 50 g/L NaCl solution is studied by Tafel polarization curve and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The corrosion mechanism is discussed. The experimental results show that the obtained Ni-Fe-Co-P-CeO2 composite coating is amorphous, and the addition of nano-CeO2 particles increases the mass fraction of P. With the increase of the concentration of nano-CeO2 particles in the plating solution, the surface flatness of the coating increases. The surface of Ni-Fe-Co-P-1 g/L CeO2 composite coating is uniform and dense, and its self-corrosion potential is the most positive; the corrosion current and corrosion rate are the smallest, and the charge transfer resistance is the largest, showing the best corrosion resistance.
