Active distribution grids that contain energy sources (so-called distributed generation or DG) are nowadays a reality. Besides the many benefits DGs bring to the distribution grid, some challenges are associated with their integration. Since there are DGs now in the distribution grid, the occurrence of islanding operation is possible. Since an islanding operation can be dangerous, it is necessary to have an effective method to detect it. In the last decade, scientists have made a great effort to develop and test various islanding detection methods (IDMs). Many approaches have been tested, and the methods based on computational intelligence (CI) have shown great potential. Among them, artificial neural networks (ANNs) gained most of the research attention. This paper focuses on ANN application for islanding detection. It gives an exhaustive review of the ANN types used for islanding detection, the types of input data, and their transformation to fit the ANNs. Furthermore, various applications based on specific input data, preprocessing types, different learning algorithms, real-time implementation, and various distribution models used for ANN are reviewed. This paper investigates the potential of ANNs to enhance islanding detection accuracy, reduce non-detection zone (NDZ), and contribute to an overall efficient detection method. A Multilevel Inverter (MLI) meets the power requirements of most power electronic applications. It can provide an AC supply with better power quality. The higher number of levels in an MLI results in better power quality output. The fundamental question that comes to mind is what the optimal number of levels can be in designing an MLI for better performance. A dual-band UWB coplanar waveguide monopole antenna is presented in this paper. The antenna proposed in this paper consists of an FR4 substrate, two ground planes, and a rectangular patch. The size of the antenna proposed is 24 x 25 x 1 mm³ with a slit of length and width of 5.7 and 0.5 mm, respectively. We received two operating bands, a C- and Ku-band, with both Bi and Omni-directional radiation patterns. The bandwidth values of the first (3.65-7.49) GHz and second (11.5-13.4) GHz band of the proposed antenna are 3.9 GHz and 1.7 GHz, respectively. The proposed antenna operating at a frequency 5.8 GHz has a maximum bandwidth of 4.5 GHz and minimum bandwidth of 1.6 GHz. The characteristics of this antenna show that the antenna proposed in this paper is suitable for dual-band and UWB communication systems. We achieved a wide bandwidth by improving the ground plane. Artificial intelligence is changing and influencing our world. As one of the main algorithms in the field of artificial intelligence, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have developed rapidly in recent years. Especially after the emergence of NASNet, CNNs have gradually pushed the idea of AutoML to the public's attention, and large numbers of new structures designed by automatic searches are appearing. These networks are usually based on reinforcement learning and evolutionary learning algorithms. However, sometimes, the blocks of these networks are complex, and there is no small model for simpler tasks. Therefore, this paper proposes POSS-CNN aiming at target recognition and detection, which employs a multi-branch CNN structure with PSNC and a method of automatic parallel selection for super parameters based on a multi-branch CNN structure. Moreover, POSS-CNN can be broken up. By choosing a single branch or the combination of two branches as the "benchmark", as well as the overall POSS-CNN, we can achieve seven models with different precision and operations. The test accuracy of POSS-CNN for a recognition task tested on a CIFAR10 dataset can reach 86.4%, which is equivalent to AlexNet and VggNet, but the operation and parameters of the whole model in this paper are 45.9% and 45.8% of AlexNet, and 29.5% and 29.4% of VggNet. The mAP of POSS-CNN for a detection task tested on the LSVH dataset is 45.8, inferior to the 62.3 of YOLOv3. However, compared with YOLOv3, the operation and parameters of the model in this paper are reduced by 57.4% and 15.6%, respectively. After being accelerated by WRA, POSS-CNN for a detection task tested on an LSVH dataset can achieve 27 fps, and the energy efficiency is 0.42 J/f, which is 5 times and 96.6 times better than GPU 2080Ti in performance and energy efficiency, respectively. Sepsis, a disease caused by severe infection, has a high mortality rate. At present, there is a lack of reliable algorithmic models for biomarker mining and diagnostic model construction for sepsis. Programmed cell death (PCD) has been shown to play a vital role in disease occurrence and progression, and different PCD-related genes have the potential to be targeted for the treatment of sepsis. In this paper, we analyzed PCD-related genes in sepsis. Implicated PCD processes include apoptosis, necroptosis, ferroptosis, pyroptosis, netotic cell death, entotic cell death, lysosome-dependent cell death, parthanatos, autophagy-dependent cell death, oxeiptosis, and alkaliptosis. We screened for diagnostic-related genes and constructed models for diagnosing sepsis using multiple machine-learning models. In addition, the immune landscape of sepsis was analyzed based on the diagnosis-related genes that were obtained. In this paper, 10 diagnosis-related genes were screened for using machine learning algorithms, and diagnostic models were constructed. The diagnostic model was validated in the internal and external test sets, and the Area Under Curve (AUC) reached 0.7951 in the internal test set and 0.9627 in the external test set. Furthermore, we verified the diagnostic gene via a qPCR experiment. The diagnostic-related genes and diagnostic genes obtained in this paper can be utilized as a reference for clinical sepsis diagnosis. Skin lesions are essential for the early detection and management of a number of dermatological disorders. Learning-based methods for skin lesion analysis have drawn much attention lately because of improvements in computer vision and machine learning techniques. A review of the most-recent methods for skin lesion classification, segmentation, and detection is presented in this survey paper. The significance of skin lesion analysis in healthcare and the difficulties of physical inspection are discussed in this survey paper. The review of state-of-the-art papers targeting skin lesion classification is then covered in depth with the goal of correctly identifying the type of skin lesion from dermoscopic, macroscopic, and other lesion image formats. The contribution and limitations of various techniques used in the selected study papers, including deep learning architectures and conventional machine learning methods, are examined. The survey then looks into study papers focused on skin lesion segmentation and detection techniques that aimed to identify the precise borders of skin lesions and classify them accordingly. These techniques make it easier to conduct subsequent analyses and allow for precise measurements and quantitative evaluations. The survey paper discusses well-known segmentation algorithms, including deep-learning-based, graph-based, and region-based ones. The difficulties, datasets, and evaluation metrics particular to skin lesion segmentation are also discussed. Throughout the survey, notable datasets, benchmark challenges, and evaluation metrics relevant to skin lesion analysis are highlighted, providing a comprehensive overview of the field. A personal-computer-based and a Raspberry Pi single-board computer-based virtual force sensor with EtherCAT communication for a six-axis robotic arm are proposed in this paper. Both traditional mathematical modeling and machine learning techniques are used in the establishment of the dynamic model of the robotic arm. Thanks to the high updating rate of EtherCAT, the machine learning-based dynamic model on a personal computer achieved an average correlation coefficient between the estimated torque and the actual torque feedback from the motor driver of about 0.99. The dynamic model created using traditional mathematical modeling and the Raspberry Pi single-board computer demonstrates an approximate correlation coefficient of 0.988 between the estimated torque and the actual torque. The external torque observer is established by calculating the difference between the actual torque and the estimated torque, and the virtual force sensor converts the externally applied torques calculated for each axis to the end effector of the robotic arm. When detecting external forces applied to the end effector, the virtual force sensor demonstrates a correlation coefficient of 0.75 and a Root Mean Square Error of 12.93 N, proving its fundamental competence for force measurement. In this paper, both the external torque observer and the virtual force control are applied to applications related to sensing external forces of the robotic arm. The external torque observer is utilized in the safety collision detection mechanism. Based on experimental results, the system can halt the motion of the robotic arm using the minimum external force that the human body can endure, thereby ensuring the operator's safety. The virtual force control is utilized to implement a position and force hybrid controller. The experimental results demonstrate that, under identical control conditions, the position and force hybrid controller established by the Raspberry Pi single-board computer achieves superior control outcomes in a constant force control scenario with a pressure of 40 N. The average absolute error is 9.62 N, and the root mean square error is 11.16 N when compared to the target pressure. From the analysis of the results, it can be concluded that the Raspberry Pi system implemented in this paper can achieve a higher control command update rate compared to personal computers. Recently, various application fields utilizing Wi-Fi fingerprint data have been under research. However, fingerprint data collected from a specific location does not include relevant information, such as continuity. Therefore, most indoor positioning technologies predict the user's location based on location signals collected at specific points within the indoor space, without taking into account the user's movements. Hence, there is a need for technology that improves the accuracy of indoor positioning while moving. This paper proposes a technique to generate movement path data by applying the concepts of "BB" and "Grid Cell" from computer vision to Wi-Fi fingerprint data. This approach represents data points as bounding boxes (BBs), then establishes grid cells and clusters of these BBs to generate adjacency information. Subsequently, movement path data are created based on this information. We utilized the movement path information generated from the dataset as training data for machine learning and introduced an enhanced indoor positioning technology. First, the experiments in this paper assessed the performance of the proposed technology based on the number of paths in the LSTM model. Second, the performance of clustering methods was compared through experiments. Finally, we evaluated the performance of various machine learning models. The experimental results confirmed a maximum accuracy of 94.48% when determining the location based on route information. Clustering performance improved accuracy by up to 3%. Google Scholar has been a widely used platform for academic performance evaluation and citation analysis. The issue about the mis-configuration of author profiles may seriously damage the reliability of the data, and thus affect the accuracy of analysis. Therefore, it is important to detect the mis-configured author profiles. Dealing with this issue is challenging because the scale of the dataset is large and manual annotation is time-consuming and relatively subjective. In this paper, we first collect a dataset of Google Scholar's author profiles in the field of computer science and compare the mis-configured author profiles with the reliable ones. Then, we propose an integrated model that utilizes machine learning and node embedding to automatically detect mis-configured author profiles. Additionally, we conduct two application case studies based on the data of Google Scholar, i.e., outstanding scholar searching and university ranking, to demonstrate how the improved dataset after filtering out the mis-configured author profiles will change the results. Machine learning (ML) has a well-established reputation for successfully enabling automation through its scalable predictive power. Industry 4.0 encapsulates a new stage of industrial processes and value chains driven by smart connection and automation. Large-scale problems within these industrial settings are a prime example of an environment that can benefit from ML. However, a clear view of how ML currently intersects with industry 4.0 is difficult to grasp without reading an infeasible number of papers. This systematic review strives to provide such a view by gathering a collection of 45,783 relevant papers from Scopus and Web of Science and analysing it with BERTopic. We analyse the key topics to understand what industry applications receive the most attention and which ML methods are used the most. Moreover, we manually reviewed 17 white papers of consulting firms to compare the academic landscape to an industry perspective. We found that security and predictive maintenance were the most common topics, CNNs were the most used ML method and industry companies, at the moment, generally focus more on enabling successful adoption rather than building better ML models. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is generating new horizons in one of the biggest challenges in the world's society—poverty. Our goal is to investigate utilities of AI in poverty prediction via finding answers to the following research questions: (1) How many papers on utilities of AI in poverty prediction were published up until March, 2022? (2) Which approach to poverty was applied when AI was used for poverty prediction? (3) Which AI methods were applied for predicting poverty? (4) What data were used for poverty prediction via AI? (5) What are the advantages and disadvantages of the created AI models for poverty prediction? In order to answer these questions, we selected twenty-two papers using appropriate keywords and the exclusion criteria and analyzed their content. The selection process identified that, since 2016, publications on AI applications in poverty prediction began. Results of our research illustrate that, during this relatively short period, the application of AI in predicting poverty experienced a significant progress. Overall, fifty-seven AI methods were applied during the analyzed span, among which the most popular one was random forest. It was revealed that with the adoption of AI tools, the process of poverty prediction has become, from one side, quicker and more accurate and, from another side, more advanced due to the creation and possibility of using different datasets. In recent years, the increasing popularity of smart mobile devices has made the interaction between devices and users, particularly through voice interaction, more crucial. By enabling smart devices to better understand users' emotional states through voice data, it becomes possible to provide more personalized services. This paper proposes a novel machine learning model for speech emotion recognition called CLDNN, which combines convolutional neural networks (CNN), long short-term memory neural networks (LSTM), and deep neural networks (DNN). To design a system that closely resembles the human auditory system in recognizing audio signals, this article uses the Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs) of audio data as the input of the machine learning model. First, the MFCCs of the voice signal are extracted as the input of the model. Local feature learning blocks (LFLBs) composed of one-dimensional CNNs are employed to calculate the feature values of the data. As audio signals are time-series data, the resulting feature values from LFLBs are then fed into the LSTM layer to enhance learning on the time-series level. Finally, fully connected layers are used for classification and prediction. The experimental evaluation of the proposed model utilizes three databases: RAVDESS, EMO-DB, and IEMOCAP. The results demonstrate that the LSTM model effectively models the features extracted from the 1D CNN due to the time-series characteristics of speech signals. Additionally, the data augmentation method applied in this paper proves beneficial in improving the recognition accuracy and stability of the systems for different databases. One of the ideas behind vegetation monitoring is the ability to identify different vegetation units, such as species, communities, habitats, or vegetation types. Remote sensing data allow for obtaining such information remotely, which is especially valuable in areas that are difficult to explore (such as mountains or wetlands). At the same time, such techniques allow for limiting field research, which is particularly important in this context. Remote sensing has been utilized for vegetation inventories for many decades, using airborne and spaceborne platforms. Developing newer tools, algorithms and sensors is conducive to more new applications in the vegetation identification field. The Special Issue "Remote Sensing Applications in Vegetation Classification" is an overview of the applications of remote sensing data with different resolutions for the identification of vegetation at different levels of detail. In 14 research papers, the most frequent different types of crops were analysed. In three cases, the authors recognised different types of grasslands, whereas trees were the object of the studies in two papers. The most commonly used sensors were Copernicus Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2; however, to a lesser extent, MODIS, airborne hyperspectral and multispectral data, as well as LiDAR products, were also utilised. There were articles that tested and compared different combinations of datasets, different terms of data acquisition, or different classifiers in order to achieve the highest classification accuracy. These accuracies were assessed quite satisfactorily in each publication; the overall accuracy (OA) for the best result varied from 72% to 98%. In all of the research papers, at least one of the two commonly used machine learning algorithms, random forest (RF) and support vector machines (SVM), was applied. Additionally, one paper presented software ARTMO's machine-learning classification algorithms toolbox, which allows for the testing of 13 different classifiers. The studies published in this Special Issue can be used by the vegetation research teams and practitioners to conduct deeper analysis via the utilization of the proposed solutions. This manuscript presents an analysis of machine learning (ML) usage in the Frequency Symbolic Method (FSM) to enhance the diagnosis of faults in parametric circuit analysis and optimization, with a particular focus on Linear Periodically Time-Variable (LPTV) systems. We put forth a few ML-based approaches for fault diagnosis (including anomaly detection), invisible feature detection, and the prediction of FSM output. These methodologies concentrate on identifying and diagnosing faults by evaluating particular ML techniques, extracting pertinent features, and determining the desired diagnostic outputs. The use cases of ML application considered in this paper demonstrate that machine learning can enhance fault detection and diagnosis, reduce human errors and identify previously unnoticed anomalies within the FSM framework. ML has never been used in FSM before, so the key aim of this paper is to consider possible use cases of AI application in FSM. Additionally, feature extraction, required as an input stage for the ML model, is proposed based on FSM peculiarities. This work can be considered a study of ML application in FSM. This paper focuses on the relationship between decision trees, a typical machine learning method, and data anonymization. It is known that information leaked from trained decision trees can be evaluated using well-studied data anonymization techniques and that decision trees can be strengthened using k-anonymity and ℓ-diversity; unfortunately, however, this does not seem sufficient for differential privacy. In this paper, we show how one might apply k-anonymity to a (random) decision tree, which is a variant of the decision tree. This study examines the challenges related to the storage and distribution of cabin materials on board during the construction of cruise ships. The construction process of cruise ships involves the assembly of various cabin materials, which are temporarily stored and transported in a complex deck environment with multiple obstacles. These processes can be viewed as location-routing problems (LRPs). However, existing solutions for LRPs do not account for the obstacles commonly encountered in deck environments. Therefore, this paper introduces a new variant of LRPs, termed as the BE-LRP (blocking environment location-routing problem). Initially, by considering the optimization objectives of minimizing the distribution distance and the number of vehicles required, the paper develops an optimization model for the location-routing of on-board materials while taking obstacles into consideration. Subsequently, a method for estimating blocked distances is proposed. This method utilizes Gaussian process regression to predict blocked distances and enables the rapid estimation of distances obstructed by obstacles between different destinations. Lastly, a hybrid obstacle blocking distance processing HO-NSGAII algorithm is formulated to address the BE-LRP. Experimental comparisons demonstrate that the distribution scheme derived from this research method does not necessitate modifications to the delivery distance when compared to the traditional NSGAII algorithm, and better aligns with the actual deck conditions. With an equivalent number of delivery vehicles, the scheme results in shorter delivery distances. The delivery distance can be reduced by 3–17% under varying circumstances. The integrated navigation system based on the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) in conjunction with the strapdown inertial navigation system (SINS) and the Doppler Velocity Logger (DVL) is essential for accurate and long-distance navigation in maritime environments. However, the error of the integrated navigation system gradually diverges due to the inevitable velocity measurement error of DVL when GNSS outages occur. To ensure the high navigational accuracy and stability of SINS, it is necessary to dynamically adjust the damping state of SINS provided externally. In this paper, we have developed a novel method for damping state switching based on machine learning with SINS. We construct a model of the change in reference velocity error and use sliding window technology to obtain the reference velocity error for model training. Before training, the digital compass loop is designed to process and highlight the change in reference velocity change errors. In order to reduce the impact of the damping switching, a variable damping system is used to transform the traditional one-time switching of the damping coefficient into a gradual switching, effectively reducing the impact of a sudden change in the damping coefficient on the system. Simulation experiments and tests on ships show that the proposed method effectively reduces the overshoot error integrated underwater during state switching. This paper presents a comprehensive review of auto-scaling techniques, highlighting significant advancements and persisting challenges in the field. First, we overview the fundamental principles and mechanisms of auto-scaling, including its role in improving cost efficiency, performance, and energy consumption in cloud services. We then discuss various strategies employed in auto-scaling, ranging from threshold-based rules and queuing theory to sophisticated machine learning and time series analysis approaches. After that, we explore the critical issues in auto-scaling practices and review several studies that demonstrate how these challenges can be addressed. We then conclude by offering insights into several promising research directions, emphasizing the development of predictive scaling mechanisms and the integration of advanced machine learning techniques to achieve more effective and efficient auto-scaling solutions. With the expansion of wireless mobile networks into both the daily lives of individuals as well as into the widely developing market of connected devices, communication is an increasingly attractive target for attackers. As the complexity of mobile cellular systems grows and the respective countermeasures are implemented to secure data transmissions, the attacks have become increasingly sophisticated on the one hand, but at the same time the system complexity can open up expanded opportunities for security and privacy breaches. After an in-depth summary of possible entry points to attacks to mobile networks, this paper first briefly reviews the basic principles of the physical layer implementation of 4G/5G systems, then gives an overview of possible attacks from a physical layer perspective. It also provides an overview of the software frameworks and hardware tool-software defined radios currently in use for experimenting with 4G/5G mobile networks, and it discusses their basic capabilities. In the final part, the paper summarizes the currently most promising families of techniques to detect illegitimate base stations—the machine-learning-based, localization-based, and behavior-based methods. This paper proposes an advanced deep learning model that integrates the Diffusion-Transformer structure and parallel attention mechanism for the tasks of growth estimation and disease detection in jujube forests. Existing methods in forestry monitoring often fall short in meeting the practical needs of large-scale and highly complex forest areas due to limitations in data processing capabilities and feature extraction precision. In response to this challenge, this paper designs and conducts a series of benchmark tests and ablation experiments to systematically evaluate and verify the performance of the proposed model across key performance metrics such as precision, recall, accuracy, and F1-score. Experimental results demonstrate that compared to traditional machine learning models like Support Vector Machines and Random Forests, as well as common deep learning models such as AlexNet and ResNet, the model proposed in this paper achieves a precision of 95%, a recall of 92%, an accuracy of 93%, and an F1-score of 94% in the task of disease detection in jujube forests, showing similarly superior performance in growth estimation tasks as well. Furthermore, ablation experiments with different attention mechanisms and loss functions further validate the effectiveness of parallel attention and parallel loss function in enhancing the overall performance of the model. These research findings not only provide a new technical path for forestry disease monitoring and health assessment but also contribute rich theoretical and experimental foundations for related fields. This paper reviews renewable energy integration with the electrical power grid through the use of advanced solutions at the device and system level, using smart operation with better utilisation of design margins and power flow optimisation with machine learning. This paper first highlights the significance of credible temperature measurements for devices with advanced power flow management, particularly the use of advanced fibre optic sensing technology. The potential to expand renewable energy generation capacity, particularly of existing wind farms, by exploiting thermal design margins is then explored. Dynamic and adaptive optimal power flow models are subsequently reviewed for optimisation of resource utilisation and minimisation of operational risks. This paper suggests that system-level automation of these processes could improve power capacity exploitation and network stability economically and environmentally. Large-scale optimization (LSO) problems among photovoltaic (PV) and concentrated solar power (CSP) systems are attracting increasing attention as they help improve the energy dispatch efficiency of PV and CSP systems to minimize power costs. Therefore, it is necessary and urgent to systematically analyze and summarize various LSO methods to showcase their advantages and disadvantages, ensuring the efficient operation of hybrid energy systems comprising different PV and CSP systems. Snow detection is imperative in remote sensing for various applications, including climate change monitoring, water resources management, and disaster warning. Recognizing the limitations of current deep learning algorithms in cloud and snow boundary segmentation, as well as issues like detail snow information loss and mountainous snow omission, this paper presents a novel snow detection network based on Swin-Transformer and U-shaped dual-branch encoder structure with geographic information (SD-GeoSTUNet), aiming to address the above issues. Initially, the SD-GeoSTUNet incorporates the CNN branch and Swin-Transformer branch to extract features in parallel and the Feature Aggregation Module (FAM) is designed to facilitate the detail feature aggregation via two branches. Simultaneously, an Edge-enhanced Convolution (EeConv) is introduced to promote snow boundary contour extraction in the CNN branch. In particular, auxiliary geographic information, including altitude, longitude, latitude, slope, and aspect, is encoded in the Swin-Transformer branch to enhance snow detection in mountainous regions. Experiments conducted on Levir_CS, a large-scale cloud and snow dataset originating from Gaofen-1, demonstrate that SD-GeoSTUNet achieves optimal performance with the values of 78.08%, 85.07%, and 92.89% for I o U _ s , F 1 _ s , and M P A , respectively, leading to superior cloud and snow boundary segmentation and thin cloud and snow detection. Further, ablation experiments reveal that integrating slope and aspect information effectively alleviates the omission of snow detection in mountainous areas and significantly exhibits the best vision under complex terrain. With the emergence and development of application requirements such as data analysis and publishing, it is particularly important to use differential privacy protection technology to provide more reliable, secure, and compliant datasets for research in the field of children's health. This paper focuses on the differential privacy protection of the ultrasound examination health dataset of adolescents in southern Texas from three aspects: differential privacy protection with output perturbation on basic statistics, publication of differential privacy marginal histogram and synthesized data, and a machine learning differential privacy learning algorithm. Firstly, differential privacy protection results with output perturbation show that Laplace and Gaussian mechanisms for numerical data, as well as the exponential mechanism for non-numerical data, can achieve the goal of protecting privacy. The exponential mechanism provides higher privacy protection. Secondly, a differential privacy marginal histogram with four attributes can be obtained with an appropriate privacy budget that approximates the marginal histogram of the original data. In order to publish synthetic data, we construct a synthetic query to obtain the corresponding differential privacy histogram for two attributes. Further, a synthetic dataset can be constructed by following the data distribution of the original dataset and the quality of the synthetic data publication can also be evaluated by the mean square error and error rate. Finally, consider a differential privacy logistic regression model under machine learning to predict whether children have fatty liver in binary classification tasks. The experimental results show that the model combined with quadratic perturbation has better accuracy and privacy protection. Rapid urbanization and climate change exacerbate the urban heat island effect, increasing the vulnerability of urban residents to extreme heat. Although many studies have assessed urban heat vulnerability, there is a significant lack of standardized criteria and references for selecting indicators, building models, and validating those models. Many existing approaches do not adequately meet urban planning needs due to insufficient spatial resolution, temporal coverage, and accuracy. To address this gap, this paper introduces the U-HEAT framework, a conceptual model for analyzing urban heat vulnerability. Fiber-optic sensors, such as fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors and fiber-optic interferometers, have excellent sensing capabilities for industrial, chemical, and biomedical engineering applications. This paper used machine learning to enhance the number of fiber-optic sensing placement points and promote the cost-effectiveness and diversity of fiber-optic sensing applications. In this paper, the framework adopted is the FBG cascading an interferometer, and a deep belief network (DBN) is used to demodulate the wavelength of the sampled complex spectrum. As the capacity of the fiber-optic sensor arrangement is optimized, the peak spectra from FBGs undergoing strain or temperature changes may overlap. In addition, overlapping FBG spectra with interferometer spectra results in periodic modulation of the spectral intensity, making the spectral intensity variation more complex as a function of different strains or temperature levels. Therefore, it may not be possible to analyze the sensed results of FBGs with the naked eye, and it would be ideal to use machine learning to demodulate the sensed results of FBGs and the interferometer. Experimental results show that DBN can successfully interpret the wavelengths of individual FBG peaks, and peaks of the interferometer spectrum, from the overlapping spectrum of peak-overlapping FBGs and the interferometer. In today's dynamic business world, organizations are increasingly relying on innovative technologies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their human resource (HR) management. Our study uses historical time and attendance data collected with the MojeUre time and attendance system to predict employee absenteeism, including sick and vacation leave, using machine learning methods. We integrate employee demographic data and the absence profiles on timesheets showing daily attendance patterns as fundamental elements for our analysis. We also convert the absence data into a feature-based format suitable for the machine learning methods used. Our primary goal in this paper is to evaluate how well we can predict sick leave and vacation leave over short- and long-term intervals using tree-based machine learning methods based on the predictive clustering paradigm. Therefore, this paper aims to analyze and discover the most important topics that affect the user experience in the super app environment by mining Arabic business sector users' reviews in Saudi Arabia using biterm topic modeling, CAMeL sentiment analyzer, and doc2vec with k-means clustering. We explore users' feelings regarding the extracted topics in order to identify the weak aspects to improve and the strong aspects to enhance, which will promote a satisfactory user experience. Hence, this paper proposes an Arabic text annotation framework to help the business sector in Saudi Arabia to determine the important topics with negative and positive impacts on users' experience. The proposed framework uses two approaches: topic modeling with sentiment analysis and topic modeling with clustering. As a result, the proposed framework reveals four important topics: delivery and payment, customer service and updates, prices, and application. The degradation of the ecosystem and the loss of natural capital have seriously threatened the sustainable development of human society and economy. Currently, most research on Gross Ecosystem Product (GEP) is based on statistical modeling methods, which face challenges such as high modeling difficulty, high costs, and inaccurate quantitative methods. However, machine learning models are characterized by high efficiency, fewer parameters, and higher accuracy. Despite these advantages, their application in GEP research is not widespread, particularly in the area of combined machine learning models. This paper includes both a GEP combination model and an explanatory analysis model. This paper is the first to propose a combined GEP prediction model called Ada-XGBoost-CatBoost (Ada-XG-CatBoost), which integrates the Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), Categorical Boosting (CatBoost) algorithms, and SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) model. This approach overcomes the limitations of single-model evaluations and aims to address the current issues of inaccurate and incomplete GEP assessments. It provides new guidance and methods for enhancing the value of ecosystem services and achieving regional sustainable development. Based on the actual ecological data of a national city, data preprocessing and feature correlation analysis are carried out using XGBoost and CatBoost algorithms, AdaGrad optimization algorithm, and the Bayesian hyperparameter optimization method. By selecting the 11 factors that predominantly influence GEP, training the model using these selected feature datasets, and optimizing the Bayesian parameters, the error gradient is then updated to adjust the weights, achieving a combination model that minimizes errors. This approach reduces the risk of overfitting in individual models and enhances the predictive accuracy and interpretability of the model. The results indicate that the mean squared error (MSE) of the Ada-XG-CatBoost model is reduced by 65% and 70% compared to the XGBoost and CatBoost, respectively. Additionally, the mean absolute error (MAE) is reduced by 4.1% and 42.6%, respectively. Overall, the Ada-XG-CatBoost combination model has a more accurate and stable predictive performance, providing a more accurate, efficient, and reliable reference for the sustainable development of the ecological industry. Assessments of stress can be performed using physiological signals, such as electroencephalograms (EEGs) and galvanic skin response (GSR). Commercialized systems that are used to detect stress with EEGs require a controlled environment with many channels, which prohibits their daily use. Fortunately, there is a rise in the utilization of wearable devices for stress monitoring, offering more flexibility. In this paper, we developed a wearable monitoring system that integrates both EEGs and GSR. The novelty of our proposed device is that it only requires one channel to acquire both physiological signals. Through sensor fusion, we achieved an improved accuracy, lower cost, and improved ease of use. We tested the proposed system experimentally on twenty human subjects. We estimated the power spectrum of the EEG signals and utilized five machine learning classifiers to differentiate between two levels of mental stress. Furthermore, we investigated the optimum electrode location on the scalp when using only one channel. Our results demonstrate the system's capability to classify two levels of mental stress with a maximum accuracy of 70.3% when using EEGs alone and 84.6% when using fused EEG and GSR data. The Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) is a classic combinatorial optimization problem commonly encountered in the fields of transportation and logistics. This paper focuses on a variant of the VRP, namely the Vehicle Routing Problem with Stochastic Travel Cost (VRP-STC). In VRP-STC, the introduction of stochastic travel costs increases the complexity of the problem, rendering traditional algorithms unsuitable for solving it. In this paper, the GAT-AM model combining Graph Attention Networks (GAT) and multi-head Attention Mechanism (AM) is employed. The GAT-AM model uses an encoder–decoder architecture and employs a deep reinforcement learning algorithm. The GAT in the encoder learns feature representations of nodes in different subspaces, while the decoder uses multi-head AM to construct policies through both greedy and sampling decoding methods. This increases solution diversity, thereby finding high-quality solutions. The REINFORCE with Rollout Baseline algorithm is used to train the learnable parameters within the neural network. Test results show that the advantages of GAT-AM become greater as problem complexity increases, with the optimal solution generally unattainable through traditional algorithms within an acceptable timeframe. The main objective of this paper is to present a repository of image databases whose features are augmented with embedded vector field (VF) features. The repository is designed to provide the user with image databases that enhance machine learning (ML) classification. Also, six VFs are provided, and the user can embed them into her/his own image database with the help of software named ELPAC. Three of the VFs generate real-shaped singular points (SPs): springing, sinking, and saddle. The other three VFs generate seven kinds of SPs, which include the real-shaped SPs and four complex-shaped SPs: repelling and attracting (out and in) spirals and clockwise and counterclockwise orbits (centers). Using the repository, this work defines the locations of the SPs according to the image objects and the mappings between the SPs' shapes if separate VFs are embedded into the same image. Next, this paper produces recommendations for the user on how to select the most appropriate VF to be embedded in an image database so that the augmented SP shapes enhance ML classification. Examples of images with embedded VFs are shown in the text to illustrate, support, and validate the theoretical conclusions. Thus, the contributions of this paper are the derivation of the SP locations in an image; mappings between the SPs of different VFs; and the definition of an imprint of an image and an image database in a VF. The advantage of classifying an image database with an embedded VF is that the new database enhances and improves the ML classification statistics, which motivates the design of the repository so that it contains image features augmented with VF features. In the context of achieving the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, the development of clean resources has become an essential strategic support for the low-carbon energy transition. This paper presents a method for the modal decomposition and reconstruction of time series to enhance the prediction accuracy and performance regarding the 70 m wind speed. The experimental results indicate that the STL-VMD-BiLSTM hybrid algorithm proposed in this paper outperforms the STL-BiLSTM and VMD-BiLSTM models in forecasting accuracy, particularly in extracting nonlinearity characteristics and effectively capturing wind speed extremes. Compared with other machine learning algorithms, including the STL-VMD-LGBM, STL-VMD-SVR and STL-VMD-RF models, the STL-VMD-BiLSTM model demonstrates superior performance. The average evaluation criteria, including the RMSE, MAE and R2, for the proposed model, from t + 15 to t + 120 show improvements to 0.582–0.753 m/s, 0.437–0.573 m/s and 0.915–0.951, respectively. Along with the rapid development of industries and the acceleration of urbanisation, the problem of air pollution is becoming more serious. Exploring the relevant factors affecting air quality and accurately predicting the air quality index are significant in improving the overall environmental quality and realising green economic development. Machine learning algorithms and statistical models have been widely used in air quality prediction and ranking assessment. In this paper, based on daily air quality data for the city of Xi'an, China, from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2023, we construct support vector regression (SVR), gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), random forests (RF), neural network (NN) and long short-term memory (LSTM) models to analyse the influence of the air quality index for Xi'an and to conduct comparative tests. The predicted values and 95% prediction intervals of the AQI for the next 15 days for Xi'an, China, are given based on the Bootstrap-XGBoost algorithm. Further, the ordinal logit regression and ordinal probit regression models are constructed to evaluate and accurately predict the AQI ranks of the data from 1 October 2023 to 15 October 2023 for Xi'an. The model performance is compared using the rankings of CASP14 (Critical Assessment of Structure Prediction) and CASP15. CASP16 is ongoing, and its results are not included in this review. Continuous Automated Model EvaluatiOn (CAMEO) complements the biennial CASP experiment. Template modeling score (TM-score), global distance test total score (GDT_TS), and Local Distance Difference Test (lDDT) score are discussed too. The integration of the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and machine learning (ML) has pioneered a transformation across several fields. Equipping electrical engineering students to remain abreast of the dynamic technological landscape is vital. This underscores the necessity for an educational tool that can be integrated into electrical engineering curricula to offer a practical way of learning the concepts and the integration of IoT, big data, and ML. Thus, this paper offers the IoT-Edu-ML-Stream open-source platform, a graphical user interface (GUI)-based emulation software tool to help electrical engineering students design and emulate IoT-based use cases with big data analytics. The tool supports the emulation or the actual connectivity of a large number of IoT devices. The emulated devices can generate realistic correlated IoT data and stream it via the message queuing telemetry transport (MQTT) protocol to a big data platform. The tool allows students to design ML models with different algorithms for their chosen use cases and train them for decision-making based on the streamed data. Moreover, the paper proposes learning outcomes to be targeted when integrating the tool into an electrical engineering curriculum. The tool is evaluated using a comprehensive survey. The survey results show that the students gained significant knowledge about IoT concepts after using the tool, even though many of them already had prior knowledge of IoT. The results also indicate that the tool noticeably improved the students' practical skills in designing real-world use cases and helped them understand fundamental machine learning analytics with an intuitive user interface. With the popularity of the Internet and the increase in the level of information technology, cyber attacks have become an increasingly serious problem. They pose a great threat to the security of individuals, enterprises, and the state. This has made network intrusion detection technology critically important. In this paper, a malicious traffic detection model is constructed based on a decision tree classifier of entropy and a proximal policy optimisation algorithm (PPO) of deep reinforcement learning. Firstly, the decision tree idea in machine learning is used to make a preliminary classification judgement on the dataset based on the information entropy. The importance score of each feature in the classification work is calculated and the features with lower contributions are removed. Then, it is handed over to the PPO algorithm model for detection. An entropy regularity term is introduced in the process of the PPO algorithm update. Finally, the deep reinforcement learning algorithm is used to continuously train and update the parameters during the detection process, and finally, the detection model with higher accuracy is obtained. Experiments show that the binary classification accuracy of the malicious traffic detection model based on the deep reinforcement learning PPO algorithm can reach 99.17% under the CIC-IDS2017 dataset used in this paper. The integration of artificial intelligence of things (AIoT) is transforming aviation health monitoring systems by combining extensive data collection with advanced analytical capabilities. This study proposes a framework that enhances predictive accuracy, operational efficiency, and safety while optimizing maintenance strategies and reducing costs. Utilizing a three-tiered cloud architecture, the AIoT system enables real-time data acquisition from sensors embedded in aircraft systems, followed by machine learning algorithms to analyze and interpret the data for proactive decision-making. This research examines the evolution from traditional to AIoT-enhanced monitoring, presenting a comprehensive architecture integrated with satellite communication and 6G technology. The mathematical models quantifying the benefits of increased diagnostic depth through AIoT, covering aspects such as predictive accuracy, cost savings, and safety improvements are introduced in this paper. Bufferbloat is one of the leading causes of high data transmission latency and jitter on the Internet, which severely impacts the performance of low-latency interactive applications such as online streaming, cloud-based gaming/applications, Internet of Things (IoT) applications, voice over IP (VoIP), real-time video conferencing, and so forth. There is currently a pressing need for developing Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) congestion control algorithms and bottleneck queue management schemes that can collaboratively control/reduce end-to-end latency, thus ensuring optimal quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) for users. This paper introduces a novel solution by experimentally integrate the low latency, low loss, and scalable throughput (L4S) architecture (specified by the IETF in RFC 9330) in FreeBSD framework with the asynchronous advantage actor-critic (A3C) reinforcement learning algorithm. The first phase involves incorporating a modified dual-queue coupled active queue management (AQM) system for L4S into the FreeBSD networking stack, enhancing queue management and mitigating latency and packet loss. The second phase employs A3C to adjust and fine-tune the system performance dynamically. Finally, we evaluate the proposed solution's effectiveness through comprehensive experiments, comparing it with traditional AQM-based systems. This paper addresses the further development and optimization of a modeling- and machine learning-based framework for early fault detection and diagnosis in induction motors. The goal behind the multi-level framework is to provide a pragmatic and practical approach for the autonomous monitoring of electrical machines in various industrial applications. The main contributions of this paper include the elimination of a fingerprint measurement in the processing of the framework and the development of a generalized model for fault detection and diagnosis. These aspects allow the training of neural networks with a simulated data set before even knowing the specific induction motor to be monitored. The pre-trained feed-forward neural networks enable the detection of several electrical and mechanical faults in a real induction motor with an overall accuracy of 99.56%. Another main contribution is the extension of the methodology to a larger operating range. As a result, various faults in a real induction motor can be detected under different load conditions with accuracies of over 92%. As a further part of the paper, a concept for a prototype is presented, which enables the autonomous and practice-friendly application of the framework. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
