The present study is an evaluation of published papers on machine learning as employed in mastitis research. The aim of this study was the quantitative evaluation of the scientific content and the bibliometric details of these papers. In total, 69 papers were found to combine machine learning in mastitis research and were considered in detail. There was a progressive yearly increase in published papers, which originated from 23 countries (mostly from China or the United States of America). Most original articles (n = 59) referred to work involving cattle, relevant to mastitis in individual animals. Most articles described work related to the development and diagnosis of the infection. Fewer articles described work on the antibiotic resistance of pathogens isolated from cases of mastitis and on the treatment of the infection. In most studies (98.5% of published papers), supervised machine learning models were employed. Most frequently, decision trees and support vector machines were employed in the studies described. 'Machine learning' and 'mastitis' were the most frequently used keywords. The papers were published in 39 journals, with most frequent publications in Computers and Electronics in Agriculture and Journal of Dairy Science. The median number of cited references in the papers was 39 (interquartile range: 31). There were 435 co-authors in the papers (mean: 6.2 per paper, median: 5, min.–max.: 1–93) and 356 individual authors. The median number of citations received by the papers was 4 (min.–max.: 0–70). Most papers (72.5%) were published in open-access mode. This study summarized the characteristics of papers on mastitis and artificial intelligence. Future studies could explore using these methodologies at farm level, and extending them to other animal species, while unsupervised learning techniques might also prove to be useful. The paper reports the results of a comparative assessment concerned with the effectiveness of identifying the basic forms of partial discharges (PD) measured by the acoustic emission technique (AE), carried out by application of selected machine learning methods. As part of the re-search, the identification involved AE signals registered in laboratory conditions for eight basic classes of PDs that occur in paper-oil insulation systems of high-voltage power equipment. On the basis of acoustic signals emitted by PDs and by application of the frequency descriptor that took the form of a signal power density spectrum (PSD), the assessment involved the possibility of identifying individual types of PD by the analyzed classification algorithms. As part of the research, the results obtained with the use of five independent classification mechanisms were analyzed, namely: k-Nearest Neighbors method (kNN), Naive Bayes Classification, Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forests and Probabilistic Neural Network (PNN). The best results were achieved using the SVM classification tuned with polynomial core, which obtained 100% accuracy. Similar results were achieved with the kNN classifier. Random Forests and Naïve Bayes obtained high accuracy over 97%. Throughout the study, identification algorithms with the highest effectiveness in identifying specific forms of PD were established. Coral reefs are an essential source of marine biodiversity, but they are declining at an alarming rate under the combined effects of global change and human pressure. A precise mapping of coral reef habitat with high spatial and time resolutions has become a necessary step for monitoring their health and evolution. This mapping can be achieved remotely thanks to satellite imagery coupled with machine-learning algorithms. In this paper, we review the different satellites used in recent literature, as well as the most common and efficient machine-learning methods. To account for the recent explosion of published research on coral reel mapping, we especially focus on the papers published between 2018 and 2020. Our review study indicates that object-based methods provide more accurate results than pixel-based ones, and that the most accurate methods are Support Vector Machine and Random Forest. We emphasize that the satellites with the highest spatial resolution provide the best images for benthic habitat mapping. We also highlight that preprocessing steps (water column correction, sunglint removal, etc.) and additional inputs (bathymetry data, aerial photographs, etc.) can significantly improve the mapping accuracy. Starting from the current need for the safety of energy systems, in which power transformers play a key role, the study of the health of power transformers in service is a difficult and complex task, since the assessment consists of identifying indicators that can provide accurate data on the extent of degradation of transformer components and subcomponents, in order to establish a model for predicting the remaining life of transformers. Therefore, this paper proposes a model for assessing the remaining service life by diagnosing the condition of the transformer based on the health index (HI) obtained from a multi-parameter analysis. To determine the condition of power transformers, a number of methods are presented based on the combination of the combined Duval pentagon (PDC) method and ethylene concentration (C2H4) to determine the fault condition, the combination of the degree of polymerisation (DP) and moisture to determine the condition of the cellulose insulation and the use of the oil quality index (OQIN) to determine the condition of the oil. For each of the classification methods presented, applications based on machine learning (ML), in particular support vector machine (SVM), have been implemented for automatic classification using the Matlab development environment. The global algorithmic approach presented in this paper subscribes to the idea of event-based maintenance. One of the ideas behind vegetation monitoring is the ability to identify different vegetation units, such as species, communities, habitats, or vegetation types. Remote sensing data allow for obtaining such information remotely, which is especially valuable in areas that are difficult to explore (such as mountains or wetlands). At the same time, such techniques allow for limiting field research, which is particularly important in this context. Remote sensing has been utilized for vegetation inventories for many decades, using airborne and spaceborne platforms. Developing newer tools, algorithms and sensors is conducive to more new applications in the vegetation identification field. The Special Issue "Remote Sensing Applications in Vegetation Classification" is an overview of the applications of remote sensing data with different resolutions for the identification of vegetation at different levels of detail. In 14 research papers, the most frequent different types of crops were analysed. In three cases, the authors recognised different types of grasslands, whereas trees were the object of the studies in two papers. The most commonly used sensors were Copernicus Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2; however, to a lesser extent, MODIS, airborne hyperspectral and multispectral data, as well as LiDAR products, were also utilised. There were articles that tested and compared different combinations of datasets, different terms of data acquisition, or different classifiers in order to achieve the highest classification accuracy. These accuracies were assessed quite satisfactorily in each publication; the overall accuracy (OA) for the best result varied from 72% to 98%. In all of the research papers, at least one of the two commonly used machine learning algorithms, random forest (RF) and support vector machines (SVM), was applied. Additionally, one paper presented software ARTMO's machine-learning classification algorithms toolbox, which allows for the testing of 13 different classifiers. The studies published in this Special Issue can be used by the vegetation research teams and practitioners to conduct deeper analysis via the utilization of the proposed solutions. The integrated navigation system based on the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) in conjunction with the strapdown inertial navigation system (SINS) and the Doppler Velocity Logger (DVL) is essential for accurate and long-distance navigation in maritime environments. However, the error of the integrated navigation system gradually diverges due to the inevitable velocity measurement error of DVL when GNSS outages occur. To ensure the high navigational accuracy and stability of SINS, it is necessary to dynamically adjust the damping state of SINS provided externally. In this paper, we have developed a novel method for damping state switching based on machine learning with SINS. We construct a model of the change in reference velocity error and use sliding window technology to obtain the reference velocity error for model training. Before training, the digital compass loop is designed to process and highlight the change in reference velocity change errors. In order to reduce the impact of the damping switching, a variable damping system is used to transform the traditional one-time switching of the damping coefficient into a gradual switching, effectively reducing the impact of a sudden change in the damping coefficient on the system. Simulation experiments and tests on ships show that the proposed method effectively reduces the overshoot error integrated underwater during state switching. This paper proposes an advanced deep learning model that integrates the Diffusion-Transformer structure and parallel attention mechanism for the tasks of growth estimation and disease detection in jujube forests. Existing methods in forestry monitoring often fall short in meeting the practical needs of large-scale and highly complex forest areas due to limitations in data processing capabilities and feature extraction precision. In response to this challenge, this paper designs and conducts a series of benchmark tests and ablation experiments to systematically evaluate and verify the performance of the proposed model across key performance metrics such as precision, recall, accuracy, and F1-score. Experimental results demonstrate that compared to traditional machine learning models like Support Vector Machines and Random Forests, as well as common deep learning models such as AlexNet and ResNet, the model proposed in this paper achieves a precision of 95%, a recall of 92%, an accuracy of 93%, and an F1-score of 94% in the task of disease detection in jujube forests, showing similarly superior performance in growth estimation tasks as well. Furthermore, ablation experiments with different attention mechanisms and loss functions further validate the effectiveness of parallel attention and parallel loss function in enhancing the overall performance of the model. These research findings not only provide a new technical path for forestry disease monitoring and health assessment but also contribute rich theoretical and experimental foundations for related fields. Demand response is an effective solution for balancing supply and demand in modern energy supply systems. For utility or load aggregators, it is important to accurately target potential consumers to participate in demand response programs to recruit a massive number of users. This is especially important for the invitation-based demand response mode, which is currently often used in China. In this paper, a portrait-based method is proposed to effectively identify potential consumers for different demand response tasks based on historical loads. Eight indicators are proposed to quantify the energy consumption characteristics from different aspects, and an evaluation method is introduced. Then, a selection method based on the K-means clustering algorithm and support vector machine classifiers is proposed. The method is tested under two scenarios, including load shifting and monthly peak shaving. The results show that the proposed method can identify potential users effectively, and the accuracy of the trained classification model exceeds 99.9%. The proposed portrait-based identification method provides an effective way to describe users' energy consumption characteristics and select potential users effectively, which is very useful for helping the utility or virtual plant with load management. Reservoir productivity prediction is a key component of oil and gas field development, and the rapid and accurate evaluation of reservoir productivity plays an important role in evaluating oil field development potential and improving oil field development efficiency. Fracture-vuggy reservoirs are characterized by strong heterogeneity, complex distribution, and irregular development, causing great difficulties in the efficient prediction of fracture-vuggy reservoirs' productivity. Therefore, a PSO-BP fracture-vuggy reservoir productivity prediction model optimized by feature optimization was proposed in this paper. The Chatterjee correlation coefficient was used to select the appropriate combination of seismic attributes as the input of the prediction model, and we applied the PSO-BP model to predict oil wells' production in a typical fracture-vuggy reservoir area of Tahe Oilfield, China, with the selected seismic attributes and compared the accuracy with that provided by the BP neural network, linear support vector machine, and multiple linear regression. The prediction results using the four models based on the test set showed that compared with the other three models, the MSE of the PSO-BP model increased by 23% to 62%, the RMSE increased by 12 to 38 percent, the MAE increased by 18 to 44 percent, the SSE increased by 23 to 62 percent, and the R-square value increased by 2 to 13 percent. This comparison proves that the PSO-BP neural network model proposed in this paper is suitable for the productivity prediction of fracture-vuggy reservoirs and has better performance, which is of guiding significance for the development and production of fracture-vuggy reservoirs. Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is an important analysis technique with applications in many industrial branches and fields of scientific research. Nowadays, the advantages of LIBS are impaired by the main drawback in the interpretation of obtained spectra and identification of observed spectral lines. This procedure is highly time-consuming since it is essentially based on the comparison of lines present in the spectrum with the literature database. This paper proposes the use of various computational intelligence methods to develop a reliable and fast classification of quasi-destructively acquired LIBS spectra into a set of predefined classes. We focus on a specific problem of classification of paper-ink samples into 30 separate, predefined classes. For each of 30 classes (10 pens of each of 5 ink types combined with 10 sheets of 5 paper types plus empty pages), 100 LIBS spectra are collected. Four variants of preprocessing, seven classifiers (decision trees, random forest, k-nearest neighbor, support vector machine, probabilistic neural network, multi-layer perceptron, and generalized regression neural network), 5-fold stratified cross-validation, and a test on an independent set (for methods evaluation) scenarios are employed. Our developed system yielded an accuracy of 99.08%, obtained using the random forest classifier. In the era of digital advancements, the escalation of credit card fraud necessitates the development of robust and efficient fraud detection systems. This paper delves into the application of machine learning models, specifically focusing on ensemble methods, to enhance credit card fraud detection. Through an extensive review of existing literature, we identified limitations in current fraud detection technologies, including issues like data imbalance, concept drift, false positives/negatives, limited generalisability, and challenges in real-time processing. To address some of these shortcomings, we propose a novel ensemble model that integrates a Support Vector Machine (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Random Forest (RF), Bagging, and Boosting classifiers. This ensemble model tackles the dataset imbalance problem associated with most credit card datasets by implementing under-sampling and the Synthetic Over-sampling Technique (SMOTE) on some machine learning algorithms. The evaluation of the model utilises a dataset comprising transaction records from European credit card holders, providing a realistic scenario for assessment. The methodology of the proposed model encompasses data pre-processing, feature engineering, model selection, and evaluation, with Google Colab computational capabilities facilitating efficient model training and testing. Comparative analysis between the proposed ensemble model, traditional machine learning methods, and individual classifiers reveals the superior performance of the ensemble in mitigating challenges associated with credit card fraud detection. Across accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score metrics, the ensemble outperforms existing models. This paper underscores the efficacy of ensemble methods as a valuable tool in the battle against fraudulent transactions. As an urgent international challenge, the sudden change in climate due to global warming needs to be addressed in the near future. This can be achieved through a reduction in fossil fuel utilization and through carbon sequestration, which reduces the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere. In this study, a self-sustainable impact sensor is proposed through implementing a triboelectric nanogenerator with a CaCO3 contact layer fabricated via a CO2 absorption method. The triboelectric polarity of CaCO3 with the location between the polyimide and the paper and the effects of varying the crystal structure are investigated first. The impact sensing characteristics are then confirmed at various input frequencies and under applied forces. Further, the high mechanical strength and strong adherence of CaCO3 on the surface of the device are demonstrated through enhanced durability compared to the unmodified device. For the intended application, the as-fabricated sensor is used to detect the turning state of the paper Ddakji in a slap match game using a supervised learning algorithm based on a support vector machine presenting a high classification accuracy of 95.8%. Coordinated cyber-physical attacks (CCPAs) are dangerously stealthy and have considerable destructive effects against power grids. The problem of stealthy CCPA (SCCPA) localization, specifically identifying disconnected lines in attack, is a nonlinear multi-classification problem. To the best of our knowledge, only one paper has studied the problem; nevertheless, the total number of classifications is not appropriate. In the paper, we propose several methods to solve the problem of SCCPA localization. Firstly, considering the practical constraints and abiding by one of our previous studies, we elaborately determine the total number of classifications and design an approach for generating training and testing datasets. Secondly, we develop two algorithms to solve multiple classifications via the support vector machine (SVM) and random forest (RF), respectively. Similarly, we also present a one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D-CNN) architecture. Finally, extensive simulations are carried out for IEEE 14-bus, 30-bus, and 118-bus power system, respectively, and we verify the effectiveness of our approaches in solving the problem of SCCPA localization. In shallow water, Sentinel-2 multispectral imagery has only four visible bands and limited quantization levels, which easily leads to the occurrence of the same spectral profile but different depth (SSPBDD) phenomenon, resulting in a one-to-many relationship between water depth and spectral profile. Investigating the impact of this relationship on water depth inversion models is the main objective of this paper. The Stumpf model and three machine learning models (Random Forest, Support Vector Machine, and Mixture Density Network) are employed, and the performance of these models is analysed based on the spatial distribution of the training dataset and the input information composition of these models. The results show that the root mean square errors (RMSEs) of the depth inversion of Random Forest and Support Vector Machine are significantly affected by the spatial distribution of the training dataset, while minimal effects are observed for the Stumpf model and the Mixture Density Network model. The SSPBDD phenomenon is widespread in Sentinel-2 images at all depths, particularly between 5 m and 15 m, with most of the depth maximum difference of the SSPBDD pixels ranging from 0 to 5 m. The SSPBDDs phenomenon can significantly reduce the inversion accuracy of any model. The number and the depth maximum difference of the SSPBDDs pixels are the main influencing factors. However, by increasing the visible spectral information and the spatial neighbourhood information in the input layer of machine learning models, the inversion accuracy and stability of the models can be improved to a certain extent. Simple Summary: The research of this paper can be applied in the compaction parameter prediction of soil-filling materials, which can significantly reduce the amount of laboratory work and improve the efficiency of optimizing design for soil resource utilization in engineering construction. Maximum Dry Density (MDD) and Optimum Moisture Content (OMC) are two important parameters of soil filling, which affect the soil stability and bearing capacity, and thus the reliability and durability of facilities such as highways and bridges. Therefore, it is important to make reasonable predictions of OMC and MDD. Four machine learning algorithms, namely, Support Vector Machine (SVM), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Random Forest (RF), and Extreme Gradient Boosting Tree (XGBoost), are adopted in this paper to establish MDD and OMC prediction models. After training and testing, the best models of the four algorithms are compared. The results show that, as an ensemble learning algorithm, XGBoost is the best model for predicting MDD and OMC, with an R2 of 0.9234 for OMC, and an R2 of 0.9098 for MDD. Finally, the feature importance analysis concludes that the plastic limit (PL) and the liquid limit (LL) are the two features that affect OMC and MDD the most. Sleep monitoring has become a prevalent area of research where body position and physiological data, such as heart rate and respiratory rate, are monitored. Numerous critical health problems are associated with poor sleep, such as pressure sore development, sleep disorders, and low sleep quality, which can lead to an increased risk of falls, cardiovascular diseases, and obesity. Current monitoring systems can be costly, laborious, and taxing on hospital resources. This paper reviews the most recent solutions for contactless textile technology in the form of bed sheets or mats to monitor body positions, vital signs, and sleep, both commercially and in the literature. This paper is organized into four categories: body position and movement monitoring, physiological monitoring, sleep monitoring, and commercial products. A detailed performance evaluation was carried out, considering the detection accuracy as well as the sensor types and algorithms used. Surface transportation has evolved through technology advancements using parallel knowledge areas such as machine learning (ML). However, the transportation industry has not yet taken full advantage of ML. To evaluate this gap, we utilized a literature review approach to locate, categorize, and synthesize the principal concepts of research papers regarding surface transportation systems using ML algorithms, and we then decomposed them into their fundamental elements. We explored more than 100 articles, literature review papers, and books. The results show that 74% of the papers concentrate on forecasting, while multilayer perceptions, long short-term memory, random forest, supporting vector machine, XGBoost, and deep convolutional neural networks are the most preferred ML algorithms. However, sophisticated ML algorithms have been minimally used. The root-cause analysis revealed a lack of effective collaboration between the ML and transportation experts, resulting in the most accessible transportation applications being used as a case study to test or enhance a given ML algorithm and not necessarily to enhance a mobility or safety issue. Additionally, the transportation community does not define transportation issues clearly and does not provide publicly available transportation datasets. The transportation sector must offer an open-source platform to showcase the sector's concerns and build spatiotemporal datasets for ML experts to accelerate technology advancements. Under the background of intensified human activities and global climate warming, the frequency and intensity of flood disasters have increased, causing many casualties and economic losses every year. Given the difficulty of mountain shadow removal from large-scale watershed flood monitoring based on Sentinel-1 SAR images and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud platform, this paper first adopted the Support Vector Machine (SVM) to extract the water body information during flooding. Then, a function model was proposed based on the mountain shadow samples to remove the mountain shadows from the flood maps. Finally, this paper analyzed the flood disasters in the middle and lower basin of the Yangtze River (MLB) in 2020. The main results showed that: (1) compared with the other two methods, the SVM model had the highest accuracy. The accuracy and kappa coefficients of the trained SVM model in the testing dataset were 97.77% and 0.9521, respectively. (2) The function model proposed based on the samples achieved the best effect compared with other shadow removal methods with a shadow recognition rate of 75.46%, and it alleviated the interference of mountain shadows for flood monitoring in a large basin. (3) The flood inundated area was 8526 km2, among which, cropland was severely affected (6160 km2). This study could provide effective suggestions for relevant stakeholders in policy making. Fine classification of urban nighttime lighting is a key prerequisite step for small-scale nighttime urban research. In order to fill the gap of high-resolution urban nighttime light image classification and recognition research, this paper is based on a small rotary-wing UAV platform, taking the nighttime static monocular tilted light images of communities near Meixi Lake in Changsha City as research data. Using an object-oriented classification method to fully extract the spectral, textural and geometric features of urban nighttime lights, we build four types of classification models based on random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), K-nearest neighbor (KNN) and decision tree (DT), respectively, to finely extract five types of nighttime lights: window light, neon light, road reflective light, building reflective light and background. The main conclusions are as follows: (i) The equal division of the image into three regions according to the visual direction can alleviate the variable scale problem of monocular tilted images, and the multiresolution segmentation results combined with Canny edge detection are more suitable for urban nighttime lighting images; (ii) RF has the highest classification accuracy among the four classification algorithms, with an overall classification accuracy of 95.36% and a kappa coefficient of 0.9381 in the far view region, followed by SVM, KNN and DT as the worst; (iii) Among the fine classification results of urban light types, window light and background have the highest classification accuracy, with both UA and PA above 93% in the RF classification model, while road reflective light has the lowest accuracy; (iv) Among the selected classification features, the spectral features have the highest contribution rates, which are above 59% in all three regions, followed by the textural features and the geometric features with the smallest contribution rates. This paper demonstrates the feasibility of nighttime UAV static monocular tilt image data for fine classification of urban light types based on an object-oriented classification approach, provides data and technical support for small-scale urban nighttime research such as community building identification and nighttime human activity perception. Rice is a staple food that feeds nearly half of the world's population. With the population of our planet expected to keep growing, it is crucial to carry out accurate mapping, monitoring, and assessments since these could significantly impact food security, climate change, spatial planning, and land management. Using the PRISMA systematic review protocol, this article identified and selected 122 scientific articles (journals papers and conference proceedings) addressing different remote sensing-based methodologies to map paddy croplands, published between 2010 and October 2022. This analysis includes full coverage of the mapping of rice paddies and their various stages of crop maturity. This review paper classifies the methods based on the data source: (a) multispectral (62%), (b) multisource (20%), and (c) radar (18%). Furthermore, it analyses the impact of machine learning on those methodologies and the most common algorithms used. We found that MODIS (28%), Sentinel-2 (18%), Sentinel-1 (15%), and Landsat-8 (11%) were the most used sensors. The impact of Sentinel-1 on multisource solutions is also increasing due to the potential of backscatter information to determine textures in different stages and decrease cloud cover constraints. The preferred solutions include phenology algorithms via the use of vegetation indices, setting thresholds, or applying machine learning algorithms to classify images. In terms of machine learning algorithms, random forest is the most used (17 times), followed by support vector machine (12 times) and isodata (7 times). With the continuous development of technology and computing, it is expected that solutions such as multisource solutions will emerge more frequently and cover larger areas in different locations and at a higher resolution. Many intrusion detection algorithms that use optimization have been developed and are commonly used to detect intrusions. The process of selecting features and the parameters of the classifier are essential parts of how well an intrusion detection system works. This paper provides a detailed explanation and discussion of an improved intrusion detection method for multiclass classification. The proposed solution uses a combination of the modified teaching–learning-based optimization (MTLBO) algorithm, the modified JAYA (MJAYA) algorithm, and a support vector machine (SVM). MTLBO is used with supervised machine learning (ML) to select subsets of features. Selection of the fewest features possible without impairing the accuracy of the results in feature subset selection (FSS) is a multiobjective optimization issue. This paper presents MTLBO as a mechanism and investigates its algorithm-specific, parameter-free idea. The rise of malware attacks presents a significant cyber-security challenge, with advanced techniques and offline command-and-control (C2) servers causing disruptions and financial losses. This paper proposes a methodology for dynamic malware analysis and classification using a malware Portable Executable (PE) file from the MalwareBazaar repository. It suggests effective strategies to mitigate the impact of evolving malware threats. For this purpose, a five-level approach for data management and experiments was utilised: (1) generation of a customised dataset by analysing a total of 582 malware and 438 goodware samples from Windows PE files; (2) feature extraction and feature scoring based on Chi2 and Gini importance; (3) empirical evaluation of six state-of-the-art baseline machine learning (ML) models, including Logistic Regression (LR), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Naive Bayes (NB), Random Forest (RF), XGBoost (XGB), and K-Nearest Neighbour (KNN), with the curated dataset; (4) malware family classification using VirusTotal APIs; and, finally, (5) categorisation of 23 distinct APIs from 266 malware APIs. According to the results, Gini's method takes a holistic view of feature scoring, considering a wider range of API activities. The RF achieved the highest precision of 0.99, accuracy of 0.96, area under the curve (AUC) of 0.98, and F1-score of 0.96, with a 0.93 true-positive rate (TPR) and 0.0098 false-positive rate (FPR), among all applied ML models. The results show that Trojans (27%) and ransomware (22%) are the most risky among 11 malware families. Windows-based APIs (22%), the file system (12%), and registry manipulation (8.2%) showcased their importance in detecting malicious activity in API categorisation. This paper considers a dual approach for feature reduction and scoring, resulting in an improved F1-score (2%), and the inclusion of AUC and specificity metrics distinguishes it from existing research (Section Comparative Analysis with Existing Approaches). Lithology identification is the fundamental work of oil and gas reservoir exploration and reservoir evaluation. The lithology of volcanic reservoirs is complex and changeable, the longitudinal lithology changes a great deal, and the log response characteristics are similar. The traditional lithology identification methods face difficulties. Therefore, it is necessary to use machine learning methods to deeply explore the corresponding relationship between the conventional log curve and lithology in order to establish a lithology identification model. In order to accurately identify the dominant lithology of volcanic rock, this paper takes the Carboniferous intermediate basic volcanic reservoir in the Hongche fault zone as the research object. Firstly, the Synthetic Minority Over-Sampling Technique–Edited Nearest Neighbours (SMOTEENN) algorithm is used to solve the problem of the uneven data-scale distribution of different dominant lithologies in the data set. Then, based on the extreme gradient boosting tree model (XGBoost), the honey badger optimization algorithm (HBA) is used to optimize the hyperparameters, and the HBA-XGBoost intelligent model is established to carry out volcanic rock lithology identification research. In order to verify the applicability and efficiency of the proposed model in volcanic reservoir lithology identification, the prediction results of six commonly used machine learning models, XGBoost, K-nearest neighbor (KNN), gradient boosting decision tree model (GBDT), adaptive boosting model (AdaBoost), support vector machine (SVM) and convolutional neural network (CNN), are compared and analyzed. Surgery is a common first-line treatment for many types of disease, including cancer. Mortality rates after general elective surgery have seen significant decreases whilst postoperative complications remain a frequent occurrence. Preoperative assessment tools are used to support patient risk stratification but do not always provide a precise and accessible assessment. Wearable sensors (WS) provide an accessible alternative that offers continuous monitoring in a non-clinical setting. They have shown consistent uptake across the perioperative period but there has been no review of WS as a preoperative assessment tool. This paper reviews the developments in WS research that have application to the preoperative period. Accelerometers were consistently employed as sensors in research and were frequently combined with photoplethysmography or electrocardiography sensors. Pre-processing methods were discussed and missing data was a common theme; this was dealt with in several ways, commonly by employing an extraction threshold or using imputation techniques. Research rarely processed raw data; commercial devices that employ internal proprietary algorithms with pre-calculated heart rate and step count were most commonly employed limiting further feature extraction. A range of machine learning models were used to predict outcomes including support vector machines, random forests and regression models. No individual model clearly outperformed others. Deep learning proved successful for predicting exercise testing outcomes but only within large sample-size studies. Elevators have become an integral part of modern buildings, and technological advances have enabled the monitoring of their operational status through sensor technology. In response to the development of the elevator industry and the need for practical elevator operation risk evaluation, this paper proposes an elevator risk evaluation method based on fuzzy theory and machine learning methods. The method begins by establishing an elevator operation risk evaluation index system. The traditional fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method is then employed to evaluate the risk levels of the 50 elevators studied. The collected index data and labels (fuzzy comprehensive evaluation results) are used as inputs to train the support vector machine (SVM) model. To optimize the SVM model, the maximum information coefficient method, enhanced by the correlation-based feature selection (MIC-CFS) method, is employed to select features for the index input to the SVM model. The improved gray wolf algorithm (IGWO) method optimizes the SVM. Finally, the model's performance is verified using new index data. The experimental results demonstrate that introducing machine learning methods for elevator risk evaluation saves time and effort while providing good accuracy compared to the traditional expert evaluation method. The optimization of the SVM model by IGWO and feature selection by the MIC-CFS method results in a more concise SVM model that converges faster during training, exhibits better stability, and achieves higher accuracy. In the pulp and paper industry, pulp testing is typically a labor-intensive process performed on hand-made laboratory sheets. Online quality control by automated image analysis and machine learning (ML) could provide a consistent, fast and cost-efficient alternative. In this study, four different supervised ML techniques—Lasso regression, support vector machine (SVM), feed-forward neural networks (FFNN), and recurrent neural networks (RNN)—were applied to fiber data obtained from fiber suspension micrographs analyzed by two separate image analysis software. With the built-in software of a commercial fiber analyzer optimized for speed, the maximum accuracy of 81% was achieved using the FFNN algorithm with Yeo–Johnson preprocessing. With an in-house algorithm adapted for ML by an extended set of particle attributes, a maximum accuracy of 96% was achieved with Lasso regression. A parameter capturing the average intensity of the particle in the micrograph, only available from the latter software, has a particularly strong predictive capability. This paper discusses the influencing factors of the green and high-quality development of enterprises from the perspective of ownership structure and innovation ability, aiming to clarify the impact mechanism of these influencing factors on the green development of enterprises, and combined with emerging machine learning technologies, to propose a novel and effective corporate green high-quality development using a regression prediction model for quality development. Linear regression and one-way ANOVA were used to analyze the influence of each variable on the green and high-quality development of the enterprise, and the weight proportions of each influencing factor under the linear model were obtained. Two machine learning models based on the random forest (RF) algorithm and support vector machine algorithm were established, and the random parameters in the two machine learning algorithms were optimized by a genetic algorithm (GA). The results show that the GA–RF model has superior regression performance compared with other prediction models. The problem of Power Quality analysis is becoming crucial to ensuring the proper functioning of complex systems and big plants. In this regard, it is essential to rapidly detect anomalies in voltage and current signals to ensure a prompt response and maximize the system's availability with the minimum maintenance cost. In this paper, anomaly detection algorithms based on machine learning, such as One Class Support Vector Machine (OCSVM), Isolation Forest (IF), and Angle-Based Outlier Detection (ABOD), are used as a first tool for rapid and effective clustering of the measured voltage and current signals directly on-line on the sensing unit. If the proposed anomaly detection algorithm detects an anomaly, further investigations using suitable classification algorithms are required. The main advantage of the proposed solution is the ability to rapidly and efficiently detect different types of anomalies with low computational complexity, allowing the implementation of the algorithm directly on the sensor node used for signal acquisition. A suitable experimental platform has been established to evaluate the advantages of the proposed method. All the different models were tested using a consistent set of hyperparameters and an output dataset generated from the principal component analysis technique. Demodulation and decoding are pivotal for the eLoran system's timing and information transmission capabilities. This paper proposes a novel demodulation algorithm leveraging a multiclass support vector machine (MSVM) for pulse position modulation (PPM) of eLoran signals. Firstly, the existing demodulation method based on envelope phase detection (EPD) technology is reviewed, highlighting its limitations. Secondly, a detailed exposition of the MSVM algorithm is presented, demonstrating its theoretical foundations and comparative advantages over the traditional method and several other methods proposed in this study. Subsequently, through comprehensive experiments, the algorithm parameters are optimized, and the parallel comparison of different demodulation methods is carried out in various complex environments. The test results show that the MSVM algorithm is significantly superior to traditional methods and other kinds of machine learning algorithms in demodulation accuracy and stability, particularly in high-noise and -interference scenarios. This study examines the determinants of life insurance ownership with a focus on rural areas and farming households in the United States. Utilizing data from online surveys conducted in 2019 and 2021, this paper explores how psychological factors, financial knowledge, and household characteristics influence life insurance ownership. Traditional indicators like wealth, income, and age were evaluated alongside less frequently discussed variables such as farm loans and rural residency. Machine learning techniques, including neural networks, Support Vector Machine modeling, Gradient Boosting, and logistic regression, were employed to identify the most robust predictors of life insurance demand. This paper focuses on large-scale landslide susceptibility modelling in NW Croatia. The objective of this research was to provide new insight into stable and unstable area sampling strategies on a representative inventory of small and shallow landslides mainly occurring in soil and soft rock. Four strategies were tested for stable area sampling (random points, stable area polygon, stable polygon buffering and stable area centroid) in combination with four strategies for unstable area sampling (landslide polygon, smoothing digital terrain model derived landslide conditioning factors, polygon buffering and landslide centroid), resulting in eight sampling scenarios. Using Logistic Regression, Neural Network, Random Forest and Support Vector Machine algorithm, 32 models were derived and analysed. The main conclusions reveal that polygon sampling of unstable areas is an imperative in large-scale modelling, as well as that subjective and/or biased stable area sampling leads to misleading models. Moreover, Random Forest and Neural Network proved to be more favourable methods (0.804 and 0.805 AUC, respectively), but also showed extreme sensitivity to the tested sampling strategies. In the comprehensive comparison, the advantages and disadvantages of 32 derived models were analysed through quantitative and qualitative parameters to highlight their application to large-scale landslide zonation. The results yielded by this research are beneficial to the susceptibility modelling step in large-scale landslide susceptibility assessments as they enable the derivation of more reliable zonation maps applicable to spatial and urban planning systems. Carbon dioxide corrosion is a pervasive issue in pipelines and the petroleum industry, posing substantial risks to equipment safety and longevity. Accurate prediction of corrosion rates and severity is essential for effective material selection and equipment maintenance. This paper begins by addressing the limitations of traditional corrosion prediction methods and explores the application of machine learning algorithms in C O 2 corrosion prediction. Conventional models often fail to capture the complex interactions among multiple factors, resulting in suboptimal prediction accuracy, limited adaptability, and poor generalization. To overcome these limitations, this study systematically organized and analyzed the data, performed a correlation analysis of the data features, and examined the factors influencing corrosion. Subsequently, prediction models were developed using six algorithms: Random Forest (RF), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Gradient Boosting Decision Tree (GBDT), Support Vector Machine (SVM), XGBoost, and LightGBM. The results revealed that SVM exhibited the lowest performance on both training and test sets, while RF achieved the best results with R2 values of 0.92 for the training set and 0.88 for the test set. In the classification of corrosion severity, RF, LightGBM, SVM, and KNN were utilized, with RF demonstrating superior performance, achieving an accuracy of 99% and an F1-score of 0.99. This study highlights that machine learning algorithms, particularly Random Forest, offer substantial potential for predicting and classifying C O 2 corrosion. The assessment of the cognitive workload experienced by air traffic controllers is a complex and prominent issue in the research community. This study introduces new indicators related to gamma waves to detect controllers' workload and develops experimental protocols to capture their EEG data and NASA-TXL data. Then, statistical tests, including the Shapiro–Wilk test and ANOVA, were used to verify whether there was a significant difference between the workload data of the controllers in different scenarios. Furthermore, the Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier was employed to assess the detection accuracy of these indicators across four categorizations. According to the outcomes, hypotheses suggesting a strong correlation between gamma waves and an air traffic controller's workload were put forward and subsequently verified; meanwhile, compared with traditional indicators, the indicators associated with gamma waves proposed in this paper have higher accuracy. In addition, to explore the applicability of the indicator, sensitive channels were selected based on the mRMR algorithm for the indicator with the highest accuracy, β + θ + α + γ, showcasing a recognition rate of a single channel exceeding 95% of the full channel, which meets the requirements of convenience and accuracy in practical applications. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that utilizing EEG gamma wave-associated indicators can offer valuable insights into analyzing workload levels among air traffic controllers. A wearable textile bra-tenna system based on dual-polarization sensors for breast cancer (BC) detection is presented in this paper. The core concept behind our work is to investigate which type of polarization is most effective for BC detection, using the combination of orthogonal polarization signals with machine learning (ML) techniques to enhance detection accuracy. The bra-tenna sensors have a bandwidth ranging from 2–12 GHz. To complement the proposed system, detection based on machine learning algorithms (MLAs) is developed and tested to enhance its functionality. Using scattered signals at different polarizations, the bra-tenna system uses MLAs to predict BC in its early stages. Classification techniques are highly effective for data classification, especially in the biomedical field. Two scenarios are considered: Scenario 1, where the system detects a tumor or non-tumor, and Scenario 2, where the system detects three classes of one, two, and non-tumors. This confirms that MLAs can detect tumors as small as 10 mm. ML techniques, including eight algorithms such as the Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), Gradient Boosting Methods (GBMs), Decision Tree (DT) classifier, Ada Boost (AD), CatBoost, Extreme Gradient Boosting (XG Boost), and Logistic Regression (LR), are applied to this balanced dataset. For optimal analysis of the BC, a performance evaluation is performed. Notably, SVM achieves outstanding performance in both scenarios, with metrics such as its F1 score, recall, accuracy, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, area under the ROC curve (AUC), and precision all exceeding 90%, helping doctors to effectively investigate BC. Crop identification at the field level using remote sensing data is a very important task. However, the use of multispectral data for the construction of vegetation indices is sometimes impossible or limited. For such situations, solutions based on the use of time series of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) indices are promising, eliminating the problems associated with cloudiness and providing an assessment of crop development characteristics during the growing season. We evaluated the use of time series of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) indices to characterize crop development during the growing season. The use of SAR imagery for crop identification addresses issues related to cloudiness. Therefore, it is important to choose the SAR index that is the most stable and has the lowest spatial variability throughout the growing season while being comparable to the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). The presented work is devoted to the study of these issues. In this study, the spatial variabilities of different SAR indices time series were compared for a single region for the first time to identify the most stable index for use in precision agriculture, including the in-field heterogeneity of crop sites, crop rotation control, mapping, and other tasks in various agricultural areas. Seventeen Sentinel-1B images of the southern part of the Khabarovsk Territory in the Russian Far East at a spatial resolution of 20 m and temporal resolution of 12 days for the period between 14 April 2021 and 1 November 2021 were obtained and processed to generate vertical–horizontal/vertical–vertical polarization (VH/VV), radar vegetation index (RVI), and dual polarimetric radar vegetation index (DpRVI) time series. NDVI time series were constructed from multispectral Sentinel-2 images using a cloud cover mask. The characteristics of time series maximums were calculated for different types of crops: soybean, oat, buckwheat, and timothy grass. The DpRVI index exhibited the highest stability, with coefficients of variation of the time series that were significantly lower than those for RVI and VH/VV. The main characteristics of the SAR and NDVI time series—the maximum values, the dates of the maximum values, and the variability of these indices—were compared. The variabilities of the maximum values and dates of maximum values for DpRVI were lower than for RVI and VH/VV, whereas the variabilities of the maximum values and the dates of maximum values were comparable for DpRVI and NDVI. On the basis of the DpRVI index, classifications were carried out using seven machine learning methods (fine tree, quadratic discriminant, Gaussian naïve Bayes, fine k nearest neighbors or KNN, random under-sampling boosting or RUSBoost, random forest, and support vector machine) for experimental sites covering a total area of 1009.8 ha. The quadratic discriminant method yielded the best results, with a pixel classification accuracy of approximately 82% and a kappa value of 0.67. Overall, 90% of soybean, 74.1% of oat, 68.9% of buckwheat, and 57.6% of timothy grass pixels were correctly classified. At the field level, 94% of the fields included in the test dataset were correctly classified. The paper results show that the DpRVI can be used in cases where the NDVI is limited, allowing for the monitoring of phenological development and crop mapping. Ice formation on aircraft surfaces poses significant safety risks, and current detection systems often struggle to provide accurate, real-time predictions. This paper presents the development and comprehensive evaluation of a smart ice control system using a suite of machine learning models. The system utilizes various sensors to detect temperature anomalies and signal potential ice formation. We trained and tested supervised learning models (Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine, and Random Forest), unsupervised learning models (K-Means Clustering), and neural networks (Multilayer Perceptron) to predict and identify ice formation patterns. The experimental results demonstrate that our smart system, driven by machine learning, accurately predicts ice formation in real time, optimizes deicing processes, and enhances safety while reducing power consumption. Internet of Things (IoT) devices are leading to advancements in innovation, efficiency, and sustainability across various industries. However, as the number of connected IoT devices increases, the risk of intrusion becomes a major concern in IoT security. To prevent intrusions, it is crucial to implement intrusion detection systems (IDSs) that can detect and prevent such attacks. IDSs are a critical component of cybersecurity infrastructure. They are designed to detect and respond to malicious activities within a network or system. Traditional IDS methods rely on predefined signatures or rules to identify known threats, but these techniques may struggle to detect novel or sophisticated attacks. The implementation of IDSs with machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques has been proposed to improve IDSs' ability to detect attacks. This will enhance overall cybersecurity posture and resilience. However, ML and DL techniques face several issues that may impact the models' performance and effectiveness, such as overfitting and the effects of unimportant features on finding meaningful patterns. To ensure better performance and reliability of machine learning models in IDSs when dealing with new and unseen threats, the models need to be optimized. This can be done by addressing overfitting and implementing feature selection. In this paper, we propose a scheme to optimize IoT intrusion detection by using class balancing and feature selection for preprocessing. We evaluated the experiment on the UNSW-NB15 dataset and the NSL-KD dataset by implementing two different ensemble models: one using a support vector machine (SVM) with bagging and another using long short-term memory (LSTM) with stacking. The results of the performance and the confusion matrix show that the LSTM stacking with analysis of variance (ANOVA) feature selection model is a superior model for classifying network attacks. It has remarkable accuracies of 96.92 % and 99.77 % and overfitting values of 0.33 % and 0.04 % on the two datasets, respectively. Numerical modeling is increasingly used to analyze practical rock engineering problems. The geological strength index (GSI) is a critical input for many rock engineering problems. However, no available method allows the quantification of GSI input parameters, and engineers must consider a range of values. As projects progress, these ranges can be narrowed down. Machine learning (ML) algorithms have been coupled with numerical modeling to create surrogate models. The concept of surrogate models aligns well with the deductive nature of data availability in rock engineering projects. In this paper, we demonstrated the use of surrogate models to analyze two common rock slope stability problems: (1) determining the maximum stable depth of a vertical excavation and (2) determining the allowable angle of a slope with a fixed height. Compared with support vector machines and K-nearest algorithms, the random forest model performs best on a data set of 800 numerical models for the problems discussed in the paper. For all these models, regression-type models outperform classification models. Once the surrogate model is confirmed to preform accurately, instantaneous predictions of maximum excavation depth and slope angle can be achieved according to any range of input parameters. To solve the problem that it is difficult to accurately identify the rotor eccentric fault, demagnetization fault and hybrid fault of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with a slot pole ratio of 3/2 and several times of it, this paper proposes a method to identify the rotor fault based on the combination of branch current analysis and a machine learning algorithm. First, the analysis of the electrical signal of the PMSM after various types of rotor faults shows that there are differences in the time domain of the electrical signal of the PMSM after three types of rotor faults. Considering the symmetry of the structure of the PMSM with a slot-pole ratio of 3/2 and its integer multiples, the changes in the time domain of the phase currents cancel each other after the fault, and the time domain fluctuations of the stator branch currents that do not cancel each other are chosen as the characteristics of the fault classification in this paper. Secondly, after signal preprocessing, feature factors are extracted and several fault feature factors with large differences are selected to construct feature vectors. Finally, a genetic algorithm is used to optimize the parameters of a support vector machine (SVM), and the GA-SVM model is constructed as a classifier for multifault classification of permanent magnet synchronous motors to classify these three types of faults. Within the integration and development of data-driven process models, the underlying process is digitally mapped in a model through sensory data acquisition and subsequent modelling. In this process, challenges of different types and degrees of severity arise in each modelling step, according to the Cross-Industry Standard Process for Data Mining (CRISP-DM). Particularly in the context of data acquisition and integration into the process model, it can be assumed with a sufficiently high degree of probability that the acquired data contain anomalies of various kinds. The outliers must be detected in the data preparation and processing phase and dealt with accordingly. If this is sufficiently implemented, it will positively impact the subsequent modelling in terms of accuracy and precision. Therefore, this paper shows how outliers can be identified using the unsupervised machine learning methods autoencoder, Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (DBSCAN), Isolation Forest (iForest), and One-Class Support Vector Machine (OCSVM). Following implementing these methods, we compared them by applying the Numenta Anomaly Benchmark (NAB) and sufficiently presented the individual strengths and disadvantages. Evaluating the correctness, distinctiveness and robustness criteria described in the paper showed that the One-Class Support Vector Machine was outstanding among the methods considered. This paper examines the use of manifold learning in the context of electric power system transient stability analysis. Since wide-area monitoring systems (WAMSs) introduced a big data paradigm into the power system operation, manifold learning can be seen as a means of condensing these high-dimensional data into an appropriate low-dimensional representation (i.e., embedding) which preserves as much information as possible. In this paper, we consider several embedding methods (principal component analysis (PCA) and its variants, singular value decomposition, isomap and spectral embedding, locally linear embedding (LLE) and its variants, multidimensional scaling (MDS), and others) and apply them to the dataset derived from the IEEE New England 39-bus power system transient simulations. We found that PCA with a radial basis function kernel is well suited to this type of power system data (where features are instances of three-phase phasor values). We also found that the LLE (including its variants) did not produce a good embedding with this particular kind of data. Furthermore, we found that a support vector machine, trained on top of the embedding produced by several different methods was able to detect power system disturbances from WAMS data. The paper focuses on the hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in Egypt, which has one of the highest rates of HCV in the world. The high prevalence is linked to several factors, including the use of injection drugs, poor sterilization practices in medical facilities, and low public awareness. This paper introduces a hyOPTGB model, which employs an optimized gradient boosting (GB) classifier to predict HCV disease in Egypt. The model's accuracy is enhanced by optimizing hyperparameters with the OPTUNA framework. Min-Max normalization is used as a preprocessing step for scaling the dataset values and using the forward selection (FS) wrapped method to identify essential features. The dataset used in the study contains 1385 instances and 29 features and is available at the UCI machine learning repository. The authors compare the performance of five machine learning models, including decision tree (DT), support vector machine (SVM), dummy classifier (DC), ridge classifier (RC), and bagging classifier (BC), with the hyOPTGB model. The system's efficacy is assessed using various metrics, including accuracy, recall, precision, and F1-score. The hyOPTGB model outperformed the other machine learning models, achieving a 95.3% accuracy rate. Machine learning, powered by cloud servers, has found application in medical diagnosis, enhancing the capabilities of smart healthcare services. Research literature demonstrates that the support vector machine (SVM) consistently demonstrates remarkable accuracy in medical diagnosis. Nonetheless, safeguarding patients' health data privacy and preserving the intellectual property of diagnosis models is of paramount importance. This concern arises from the common practice of outsourcing these models to third-party cloud servers that may not be entirely trustworthy. Few studies in the literature have delved into addressing these issues within SVM-based diagnosis systems. These studies, however, typically demand substantial communication and computational resources and may fail to conceal classification results and protect model intellectual property. This paper aims to tackle these limitations within a multi-class SVM medical diagnosis system. To achieve this, we have introduced modifications to an inner product encryption cryptosystem and incorporated it into our medical diagnosis framework. Notably, our cryptosystem proves to be more efficient than the Paillier and multi-party computation cryptography methods employed in previous research. Although we focus on a medical application in this paper, our approach can also be used for other applications that need the evaluation of machine learning models in a privacy-preserving way such as electricity theft detection in the smart grid, electric vehicle charging coordination, and vehicular social networks. To assess the performance and security of our approach, we conducted comprehensive analyses and experiments. Our findings demonstrate that our proposed method successfully fulfills our security and privacy objectives while maintaining high classification accuracy and minimizing communication and computational overhead. To address the problem in model computations and the limited accuracy of current bridge deterioration prediction methods, this paper proposes a novel bridge deterioration prediction meth-od using the whale optimization algorithm and extreme learning machine (WOA-ELM). First, we collected a dataset consisting of 539 sets of bridge inspection data and determined the necessary influencing factors through correlation analysis. Subsequently, the WOA-ELM algorithm was applied to establish a nonlinear mapping relationship between each influencing factor and the bridge condition indicators. Furthermore, the extreme learning machine (ELM), back-propagation neural network (BPNN), decision trees (DT), and support vector machine (SVM) were employed for comparison to validate the superiority of the proposed method. In addition, this paper provides further substantiation of the model's exceptional predictive capabilities across diverse bridge components. The results demonstrate the accurate predictive capability of the proposed method for bridge conditions. Compared with ELM, BPNN, DT, and SVM, the proposed method exhibits significant improvements in predictive accuracy, i.e., the correlation coefficient is increased by 4.1%, 11.4%, 24.5%, and 33.6%, and the root mean square error is reduced by 7.3%, 18.0%, 14.8%, and 18.1%, respectively. Moreover, the proposed method presents considerably enhanced generalization capabilities, resulting in the reduction in mean relative error by 11.6%, 15.3%, 6%, and 16.2%. In previous years, cybercriminals have utilized various strategies to evade identification, including obfuscation, confusion, and polymorphism technology, resulting in an exponential increase in the amount of malware that poses a serious threat to computer security. The use of techniques such as code reuse, automation, etc., also makes it more arduous to identify variant software in malware families. To effectively detect the families to which malware belongs, this paper proposed and discussed a new malware fusion feature set and classification system based on the BIG2015 dataset. We used a forward feature stepwise selection technique to combine plausible binary and assembly malware features to produce new and efficient fused features. A number of machine-learning techniques, including extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), random forest, support vector machine (SVM), K-nearest neighbors (KNN), and adaptive boosting (AdaBoost), are used to confirm the effectiveness of the fusion feature set and malware classification system. The experimental findings demonstrate that the XGBoost algorithm's classification accuracy on the fusion feature set suggested in this paper can reach 99.87%. In addition, we applied tree-boosting-based LightGBM and CatBoost algorithms to the domain of malware classification for the first time. In the field of underwater acoustic recognition, machine learning methods rely on a large number of datasets to achieve high accuracy, while the actual collected signal samples are often very scarce, which has a great impact on the recognition performance. This paper presents a recognition method of an underwater acoustic target by the data augmentation technique and the residual convolutional neural network (CNN) model, which is used to expand training samples to improve recognition performance. As a representative model in residual CNN, the ResNet18 model is used for recognition. The whole process mainly includes mel-frequency cepstral coefficient (MFCC) feature extraction, data augmentation processing, and ResNet18 model recognition. On the base of the traditional data augmentation, this study used the deep convolutional generative adversarial network (DCGAN) model to realize the expansion of underwater acoustic samples and compared the recognition performance of support vector machine (SVM), common CNN, VGG19, and ResNet18. The recognition results of the MFCC, constant Q transform (CQT), and low-frequency analyzer and recorder (LOFAR) spectrum were also analyzed and compared. Experimental results showed that the recognition accuracy of the MFCC feature was better than that of other features at the same method, and using the data augmentation method could obviously improve the recognition performance. Moreover, the recognition performance of ResNet18 using data enhancement technology was better than that of other models, which was due to the combination of the data expansion advantage of data augmentation technology and the deep feature extracting ability of the residual CNN model. In addition, although this method was used for ship recognition in this paper, it is not limited to this. Alzheimer's Disease (AD) poses a significant health risk globally, particularly among the elderly population. Recent studies underscore its prevalence, with over 50% of elderly Japanese facing a lifetime risk of dementia, primarily attributed to AD. As the most prevalent form of dementia, AD gradually erodes brain cells, leading to severe neurological decline. In this scenario, it is important to develop an automatic AD-detection system, and many researchers have been working to develop an AD-detection system by taking advantage of the advancement of deep learning (DL) techniques, which have shown promising results in various domains, including medical image analysis. However, existing approaches for AD detection often suffer from limited performance due to the complexities associated with training hierarchical convolutional neural networks (CNNs). In this paper, we introduce a novel multi-stage deep neural network architecture based on residual functions to address the limitations of existing AD-detection approaches. Inspired by the success of residual networks (ResNets) in image-classification tasks, our proposed system comprises five stages, each explicitly formulated to enhance feature effectiveness while maintaining model depth. Following feature extraction, a deep learning-based feature-selection module is applied to mitigate overfitting, incorporating batch normalization, dropout and fully connected layers. Subsequently, machine learning (ML)-based classification algorithms, including Support Vector Machines (SVM), Random Forest (RF) and SoftMax, are employed for classification tasks. Comprehensive evaluations conducted on three benchmark datasets, namely ADNI1: Complete 1Yr 1.5T, MIRAID and OASIS Kaggle, demonstrate the efficacy of our proposed model. Impressively, our model achieves accuracy rates of 99.47%, 99.10% and 99.70% for ADNI1: Complete 1Yr 1.5T, MIRAID and OASIS datasets, respectively, outperforming existing systems in binary class problems. Artificial bone porous titanium materials are widely used in orthopedic implants. However, the traditional constitutive model is often limited by the complexity and accuracy of the model, and it is difficult to accurately and efficiently describe the constitutive relationship of porous titanium materials. In this study, structured data were established based on experimental data from published papers, and goodness of fit ( R 2 ), mean absolute error ( M A E ) and mean absolute percentage error ( M A P E ) were used to evaluate the model. The prediction effect of random forest (RF), multi-layer perceptron (MLPR) and support vector machine (SVR) on the constitutive relationship of porous titanium materials was discussed. Through comprehensive comparison, it can be seen that the RF model with max_depth of 24 and n_estimators of 160 has the best performance in prediction, and the average absolute percentage error is less than 4.4%, which means it can accurately predict the temperature sensitivity and strain rate sensitivity of porous titanium materials. And its predictive ability is better than that of the traditional constitutive model, which provides a new idea and method for the constitutive modeling of porous titanium materials. This paper presents various machine learning methods with different text features that are explored and evaluated to determine the authorship of the texts in the example of the Azerbaijani language. We consider techniques like artificial neural network, convolutional neural network, random forest, and support vector machine. These techniques are used with different text features like word length, sentence length, combined word length and sentence length, n-grams, and word frequencies. The models were trained and tested on the works of many famous Azerbaijani writers. The results of computer experiments obtained by utilizing a comparison of various techniques and text features were analyzed.
