In the European Union, buildings account for 42% of the energy consumption and 36% of the direct and indirect energy-related greenhouse gas emissions. Reducing thermal power for heating purposes is crucial to achieve climate neutrality. The main purpose of this article is to identify the places in the building where it is possible to significantly improve energy efficiency through the use of appropriate construction and material solutions. This article contains a multi-aspect approach to the heat balance of a building. Solutions that have a direct impact on building energy consumption were analysed, taking into account architectural, technological, and material aspects. Particular attention was paid to energy-efficient design and material solutions for non-transparent and transparent external walls and thermal storage walls (Trombe walls). An analysis of heat transfer through building elements was carried out, along with the optimisation of energy-efficient solutions for non-transparent and transparent barriers. Two methods for determining the equivalent heat transfer coefficient Ue for solar active partitions are presented. The analysis presented in the work using the original method of the balanced heat transfer coefficient Ue is a testing ground for identifying unfavourable features of the building structure, as well as the most energy-efficient solutions that can be used in establishing standards for the construction and modernisation of buildings. The value of the Ue coefficient illustrates the actual heat transfer through the partition. Having Ue values for various structural solutions of building envelopes, the designer can easily select the most effective ones. In this paper, a comprehensive analysis of the combined effect of major influencing parameters on heat transfer in a single U-tube BHE (sBHE) and a double U-tube BHE (dBHE) with two independent circuits was performed by using a validated numerical heat transfer model. Geometrical parameters, such as shank spacing (with maximum, average, and minimum values), borehole diameter (large, medium, and small borehole sizes), and borehole depth (shallow, average, and deep borehole depths) as well as the thermal conductivity of soil and grout, which ranges from minimum to high values, were considered. The combined impact of these parameters was included under the following four major cases: (1) the combined effect of borehole depth, borehole size, and shank spacing; (2) the combined effect of borehole depth and soil and grout thermal conductivity; (3) the combined effect of soil and grout thermal conductivity and borehole size; and (4) the combined effect of soil thermal conductivity, borehole size, and shank spacing. Each of these major cases has nine different design options for both sBHEs and dBHEs. A series of results of heat transfer per unit borehole depth were generated for all the considered various cases. The velocity field and temperature field are crucial for metal foams to be used as a heat exchanger, but they are difficult to obtain through physical experiments. In this work, the fluid flow behavior and heat transfer performance in open-cell metal foam were numerically studied. Porous 3D models with different porosities (55–75%) and pore sizes (250 μm, 550 μm, and 1000 μm) were created based on the porous structure manufactured by the Lost Carbonate Sintering method. A wide flow velocity range from 0.0001 m/s to 0.3 m/s, covering both laminar and turbulent flow regimes, is fully studied for the first time. Pressure drop, heat transfer coefficient, permeability, form drag coefficient, temperature and velocity distributions were calculated. The calculated results agree well with our previous experimental results, indicating that the model works well. The results showed that pressure drop increased with decreasing porosity and increasing pore size. Permeability increased and the form drag coefficient decreased with increasing porosity, and both increased with increasing pore size. The heat transfer coefficient increased with increasing velocity and porosity, whereas it slightly decreased with increasing pore size. The results also showed that at high velocity, only the metal foam close to the heat source contributes to heat dissipation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article addresses the design of a compact heat exchanger for the cooling of electronic systems. The Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method is used to identify crucial product features to improve device performance and key customer requirements. The QFD simplifies management processes, allowing modifications to device components, such as design parameters (dimensions and materials) and operating conditions (flow type and preferred temperature range). The study was applied to analyse the fundamental features of a compact heat exchanger, assessing their impact on enhancing heat transfer intensity during fluid flow through mini-channels. The thermal efficiency of the compact heat exchanger was tested experimentally. The results allow to verify the results obtained from the numerical simulations due to Simcenter STAR-CCM+. Consequently, the experimental part was reduced in favour of numerical simulations conducted using this commercial CFD software version 2020.2.1 Build 15.04.01. The numerical simulations performed with the aid of CFD showed increases in the heat transfer coefficient of up to 180% compared to the case treated as a reference. The application of the QFD matrix significantly reduces the time required to develop suitable design and material solutions and determine the operating parameters for the cooling of miniature electronic devices. The performance of lithium-ion batteries is greatly influenced by various factors within their operating environment, which can significantly impact their overall efficiency and effectiveness. In this paper, a multi-physics field electrochemical thermal model is established to measure the physical parameters of a battery module during the charge/discharge process. The effects of working temperature, current rate, and convective heat transfer coefficient are investigated by establishing an electrochemical and thermal model. The results are obtained by conducting numerous parameterized scans to analyze the system's state across various operating conditions, enabling the determination of its temperature and the selection of appropriate cooling measures accordingly. Based on the internal and external conditions of battery operation, parameter selection corresponding to the operating range is divided into several stages, with thermal management strategies provided for each stage. The existing framework facilitates the design of battery packs equipped with efficient thermal management strategies, thereby enhancing the battery systems' reliability and performance. The performance of the Plate Indirect Evaporative Cooler (PIEC) can be effectively improved by incorporating baffles in the dry channel. However, in the dimensional influence of the baffles on PIEC performance there remains a research gap. In order to investigate the impact of baffle dimensions on the wet bulb efficiency, namely the average heat transfer coefficient and the cooling capacity of the PIEC, this paper proposed and verified a three-dimensional numerical model and method based on the species transport model and the Euler wall film model. At the same time, in order to obtain the equilibrium point between the enhanced heat transfer performance and the additional resistance induced by baffles, a comprehensive performance evaluation index is introduced. The results indicate that, under the same conditions, (1) the baffle effect on PIEC performance is significant at a lower inlet air velocity, and the wet bulb efficiency of the PIEC with baffles can be improved by 22.8%; (2) the baffle effect on PIEC performance is negative if its relative length exceeds 60% or the primary air inlet velocity surpasses 4 m/s under the conditions specified in this paper; and (3) the baffle effect on PIEC performance is significant when its channel height is lower and its channel width is larger, and the wet bulb efficiency of the PIEC with baffles can be improved by 29.3%. In this study, three randomly packed beds with varying tube-to-particle diameter ratios (D/d) are constructed using the discrete element method (DEM) and simulated via CFD under low pore Reynolds numbers (Rep < 100). An innovation of this research lies in the application of hydrogen in randomly packed beds, coupled with the consideration of its temperature-dependent thermal properties. The axial analysis of the heat transfer characteristics shows that PB−5 and PB−6 achieve thermal equilibrium 44% and 58% faster than PB−4, respectively, demonstrating enhanced heat transfer efficiency. However, at higher flow rates (0.8 m/s), the large-sized fluid channels in PB−6 severely impact the heat transfer efficiency, slightly reducing it compared to PB−5. Additionally, this study introduces a localized segmentation method for calculating the axial local Nusselt number, showing that the axial local Nusselt number (Nu) not only exhibits an inverse relationship with the axial porosity distribution, but also matches its amplitude fluctuations. The wall effect significantly impacts the flow and temperature distribution in the packed bed, causing notable velocity and temperature oscillations in the near-wall region. In the near-wall region, the average temperature is lower than in the core region, and the axial temperature profile exhibits more intense oscillations. These findings may provide insights into the use of hydrogen in randomly packed beds, which are vital for enhancing industrial applications such as hydrogen storage and utilization. Interconnected microchannels (IMCs) in flow boiling have the advantages of optimized heat transfer performance, energy savings and high efficiency, compact size, and strong customizability. They provide new solutions for thermal management and heat transfer at the microscale and have broad application prospects. To further investigate the effect of microchannels with different numbers of transverse sections on the flow boiling heat transfer, we performed numerical simulations on a rectangular microchannel (RMC) and IMCs with 3, 5, and 7 transverse microchannels at high and low mass flux. It was found that fluid experiences similar bubble and slug flow in different numbers of IMCs and the RMC at low mass flux. At a heat flux of q = 90 W/cm2, the downstream regions of the IMCs produce vapor films that span the channels, obstructing the cross-section and weakening the flow exchange between the channels, which lead the heat transfer performance factor of IMC-3, reaching 148.43%, 110.04%, and 116.92% of the RMC, IMC-5, and IMC-7. Under high-quality flux, as the heat flux increases, the heat transfer coefficient increases and the pressure drop decreases due to the existence of lateral microchannels introduced in the interconnected microchannels. Whether at high or low mass flux, structural reasons pertaining to the RMC can easily lead to the accumulation of bubbles and the occurrence of slugs, and the flow boiling instability increases with the increase of heat flux, which leads to a pressure drop and heat transfer performance generally lower than that of IMCs under the same conditions. At q = 120 W/cm2, IMC-7 showed the best heat transfer enhancement. Its heat transfer performance factor was 129.37%, 120.594% and 107.98% of the RMC, IMC-3, and IMC-5, respectively. A CFD simulation of the condensation flow of R600a and R290 within microchannels was conducted to explore the effect of mass flux, hydraulic diameter, and vapour quality on heat transfer rate and pressure drop. Data obtained from CFD simulations were used to develop new heat transfer and pressure drop correlations for the condensation flows of R600a and R290, which are climate-friendly refrigerants. Steady-state numerical simulations of condensation flow of refrigerants were carried out inside a single circular microchannel with diameters varying between 0.2 and 0.6 mm. The volume of fluid approach was used in the proposed model, calculating the interface phase change using the Lee model. The CFD simulation model was validated via a comparison of the simulation results with the experimental data available in the literature. It is found that the newly developed Nu number correlation shows a deviation, with an Ave-MAE of 11.16%, compared to those obtained by CFD simulation. Similarly, the deviation between friction factors obtained by the newly proposed correlation and those obtained by CFD simulation is 20.81% Ave-MAE. Widely recognized correlations that are applicable to the condensation of refrigerants within small-scale channels were also evaluated by comparing newly developed correlations. It is concluded that the newly proposed correlation has a higher accuracy in predicting the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop. The flow and heat transfer of a steady, viscous biomagnetic fluid containing magnetic particles caused by the swirling and stretching motion of a three-dimensional cylinder has been investigated numerically in this study. Because fluid and particle rotation are different, a magnetic field is applied in both radial and tangential directions to counteract the effects of rotational viscosity in the flow domain. Partial differential equations are used to represent the governing three-dimensional modeled equations. With the aid of customary similarity transformations, this system of partial differential equations is transformed into a set of ordinary differential equations. They are then numerically resolved utilizing a common finite differences technique that includes iterative processing and the manipulation of tridiagonal matrices. Graphs are used to depict the physical effects of imperative parameters on the swirling velocity, temperature distributions, skin friction coefficient, and the rate of heat transfer. For higher values of the ferromagnetic interaction parameter, it is discovered that the axial velocity increases, whereas temperature and tangential velocity drop. With rising levels of the ferromagnetic interaction parameter, the size of the axial skin friction coefficient and the rate of heat transfer are both accelerated. Due to environmental concerns, natural refrigerants and their use in refrigeration and air conditioning systems are receiving more attention from manufacturers, end users and the scientific community. The study of heat transfer and pressure drop is essential for accurate design and more energy efficient cycles using natural refrigerants. The aim of this work is to provide an overview of the latest outcomes related to heat transfer and pressure drop correlations for ammonia, propane, isobutane and propylene and to investigate the current state of the art in terms of operating conditions. Available data on the existing correlations between heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops for natural refrigerants have been collected through a systematic search. Whenever possible, validity intervals are given for each correlation, and the error is quantified. It is the intention of the authors that this paper be a valuable support for researchers and an aid to design, with particular reference to heat pumps. A procedure based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement was adopted, and the Scopus database was used to query the relevant literature. A total of 135 publications qualified for inclusion in the survey; 34 articles report experimental investigations for unusual geometric conditions. Of the 101 selected papers related to usual geometric conditions, N = 50 deal only with HTC, N = 16 deal only with pressure drop and the remainder (N = 35) analyse both HTC and pressure drop. Among the 85 HTC papers, N = 53 deal with the evaporating condition, N = 30 with condensation and only N = 2 with the heat transfer correlations under both conditions. The two-phase ejector is a simple and compact pressure boosting device and widely used in ejector steam-generator water feeding systems and core emergency cooling systems. The direct contact condensation of water and steam is the key process of a two-phase ejector. Usually, the high-temperature and high-pressure steam will inevitably induce non-condensable gases. The existence of non-condensable gases will reduce the condensation heat transfer rate between steam and water, and harm the equipment. This study carried out 3D numerical simulations of a two-phase ejector based on an inhomogeneous multiphase model. The steam inlet pressure and the non-condensable gas mass fraction rang in 0.6–2.9 MPa and 1–10%, respectively. The heat and mass transfer characteristics were analyzed under different conditions. The results show that the heat transfer coefficient and plume penetration length increased with the steam inlet pressure. Non-condensable gas prevents direct contact condensation between the steam and water. The non-condensable gas mass fraction rises from 1% to 10%, the heat transfer between steam and water deteriorates, and leads to a lower heat transfer coefficient. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An open-cell metal foam has excellent characteristics such as low density, high porosity, high specific surface area, high thermal conductivity, and low mass due to its unique internal three-dimensional network structure. It has gradually become a new material for enhanced heat transfer in industrial equipment, new compact heat exchangers, microelectronic device cooling, etc. This research established a comprehensive three-dimensional structural model of open-cell metal foams utilizing Laguerre–Voronoi tessellations and employed computational fluid dynamics to investigate its flow dynamics and coupled heat transfer performance. By exploring the impact of foam microstructure on flow resistance and heat transfer characteristics, the study provided insights into the overall convective heat transfer performance across a range of foam configurations with varying pore densities and porosities. The findings revealed a direct correlation between convective heat transfer coefficient (h) and pressure drop (ΔP) with increasing Reynolds number (Re), accompanied by notable changes in fluid turbulence kinetic energy (e) and temperature (T), ultimately influencing heat transfer efficiency. Furthermore, the analysis demonstrated that alterations in porosity (ε) and pore density significantly affected unit pressure drop (ΔP/L) and convective heat transfer coefficient (h). This study identified an optimal configuration, highlighting a metal foam with a pore density of 20 PPI and a porosity of 95% as exhibiting superior overall convective heat transfer performance. The thermal conductivity of recently produced hexagonal boron nitride (hBN)-containing nanofluids is comparatively higher than their viscosity, indicating that these materials belong to a relatively novel class. In this study, hBN–water nanofluids in stable and dispersed concentrations were used in parallel and counterflow experiments at volumes of 0.01%, 0.1%, and 1%, as well as at various flow rates and Reynolds numbers. When employing hBN–water nanofluid in a counter-flow heat exchanger instead of distilled water, the results showed a 16.7% increase in the overall heat transfer coefficient. The findings also showed that, in comparison to a counter-flow heat exchanger, employing hBN nanofluid as the cold fluid in a parallel-flow heat exchanger produced superior results in terms of an increase in heat transfer. Microscale electronics have become increasingly more powerful, requiring more efficient cooling systems to manage the higher thermal loads. To meet this need, current research has been focused on overcoming the inefficiencies present in typical thermal management systems due to low Reynolds numbers within microchannels and poor physical properties of the working fluids. For the first time, this research investigated the effects of a connector with helical geometry on the heat transfer coefficient at low Reynolds numbers. The introduction of a helical connector at the inlet of a microchannel has been experimentally tested and results have shown that this approach to flow augmentation has a great potential to increase the heat transfer capabilities of the working fluid, even at low Reynolds numbers. In general, a helical connector can act as a stabilizer or a mixer, based on the characteristics of the connector for the given conditions. When the helical connector acts as a mixer, secondary flows develop that increase the random motion of molecules and possible nanoparticles, leading to an enhancement in the heat transfer coefficient in the microchannel. Otherwise, the heat transfer coefficient decreases. It is widely known that introducing nanoparticles into the working fluids has the potential to increase the thermal conductivity of the base fluid, positively impacting the heat transfer coefficient; however, viscosity also tends to increase, reducing the random motion of molecules and ultimately reducing the heat transfer capabilities of the working fluid. Therefore, optimizing the effects of nanoparticles characteristics while reducing viscous effects is essential. In this study, deionized water and deionized water–diamond nanofluid at 0.1 wt% were tested in a two-microchannel system fitted with a helical connector in between. It was found that the helical connector can make a great heat transfer coefficient enhancement in low Reynolds numbers when characteristics of geometry are optimized for given conditions. The continuously increasing energy density of electric motors to match the performance of electric vehicles with internal-combustion-engine vehicles demands an advanced cooling strategy. Direct dripping/spray cooling is one of such potential cooling strategies to replace the conventional cooling method for achieving the desired thermal management of next-generation electric motors. In the present work, the heat transfer characteristics of an electric motor with oil-dripping cooling were experimentally investigated considering overload operating conditions. An experimental set-up comprising a 15 kW electric motor and an oil-dripping cooling system was developed. The experimental data were used to evaluate the maximum temperature, heat transfer coefficient and power consumption under the influence of a dripping hole diameter (2 mm, 3 mm, 4 mm), oil flow rate (8 LPM, 12 LPM, 16 LPM) and overload operating power (8.28 kW, 12.05 kW, 14.21 kW). The symmetrical oil distribution over the electric motor and the superior heat transfer from the electric motor to the oil was achieved when the oil-dripping cooling system was designed with the combination of a 4 mm dripping hole diameter and a 12 LPM oil flow rate. The combination of the 4 mm dripping hole diameter and 12 LPM oil flow rate showed the lowest maximum temperatures of 31.9 °C and 46.3 °C for electric motor under overload operating powers of 8.28 kW and 14.21 kW, respectively. In addition, the highest heat transfer coefficient of 7528.61 W/m2-K and lowest power consumption of 18.07 W were achieved for the oil-dripping cooling system with the combination of a 4 mm dripping hole diameter and 12 LPM oil flow rate. The best combination of the operating parameters is proposed for developing the oil-dripping cooling system that enables superior heat transfer characteristics and, thus, an enhanced thermal management of electric motors under overload conditions. The article aims to explore boiling heat transfer in mini-channels with a rectangular cross-section using various fluids (HFE-649, HFE-7000, HFE-7100, and HFE-7200). Temperature measurements were conducted using infrared thermography for the heated wall and K-type thermocouples for the working fluid. The 2D mathematical model for heat transfer in the test section was proposed. Local heat transfer coefficients between the heated wall and the working fluid were determined from the Robin condition. The problem was solved by means of the finite element method (FEM) with Trefftz functions. The values of the heat transfer coefficient that were obtained were compared with the results calculated from Newton's law of cooling. The average relative differences between the obtained results did not exceed 4%. The study included uncertainty analyses for temperature measurements with K- and T-type thermocouples. Expanded uncertainties were calculated using the uncertainty propagation and Monte Carlo methods. Precisely determining the uncertainties in contact temperature measurements is crucial to ensure accurate temperature data for subsequent heat transfer calculations. The results of the heat transfer investigations were compared in terms of fluid temperature, heat transfer coefficients, and boiling curves. HFE-7200 consistently exhibited the highest fluid temperature and temperature differences at boiling incipience, while HFE-7000 demonstrated the highest heat transfer coefficients. HFE-649 showed the lowest heat transfer coefficients. The boiling curves exhibited a typical shape, with a notable occurrence of 'nucleation hysteresis phenomena'. This paper presents the results of numerical simulations of heat transfer in a tube with a protective chromium layer on the inner surface made of steel, with different shrinkage temperatures. Shrinkage in the steel is an unfavorable phenomenon because it causes cracks in the chrome coating. The cracks contribute to the peeling of the protective material on the inner surface of the tube. Wear and damage to the chrome layer significantly shortens the tube's service life. The influence of the type of steel with medium carbon content on heat transfer for a sequence of ten, thirty, and sixty heat impulses was examined. Simulations were carried out for two selected steels with clearly different shrinkage temperatures, i.e., 30HN2MFA and X37CrMoV5-1 (1.2343). In 30HN2MFA steel, the shrinkage effect occurred at a temperature of approx. 750 °C, while in X37CrMoV5-1 steel it occurred at a temperature of approx. 870 °C. In the computational model, 30 cross-sections of the three-meter-long tube were analyzed. A time-dependent heat transfer coefficient was calculated in each zone. Heat transfer simulations were carried out using COMSOL version 6.1 software. This paper shows that for X37CrMoV5-1 steel, the shrinkage temperature on the inner surface of the tube was reached after approx. 60 heat impulses, while for 30HN2MFA steel, it was reached after approx. 30. Lattice structures such as triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) structures have gained significance due to advancements in additive manufacturing, particularly 3D printing, which enable their engineering to be tailored to specific applications, such as heat exchangers. While traditional heat exchanger designs have been extensively studied, investigations into the thermal performance of TPMS structures are limited. Considering the extensive range of the geometric design variations in TPMS structures, highly efficient structures on par with the performance of conventional heat exchanger designs can be expected. This study aims to comprehensively evaluate the thermal and flow characteristics of a specific TPMS structure (Fischer Koch S), and, in particular, the impact of various volume fractions on its heat transfer performance and on its friction factor. Another key objective of this study is to develop Nusselt and friction factor correlations as a function of the investigated volume fractions for potential use in future design tools. To this end, a broad CFD study was carried out. Additionally, this study provides insights into the procedures involved in generating Fischer Koch S geometries and the modeling methodology employed in CFD investigations. Based on the results of the CFD study, the thermal and fluid dynamic performances of Fischer Koch unit cells were evaluated, resulting in heat transfer coefficients up to 160 W/m2K for the investigated structures. A comparison between the heat transfer coefficient of the examined TPMS structure and a conventional plate heat exchanger suggested a potential increase in the heat transfer coefficient of approximately 35%. The generated CFD data were subsequently utilized to formulate fitting correlations for the Nusselt number and friction factors as a function of the volume fraction. It is widely established that flow boiling, being a direct cooling technique also employing the latent heat of the fluid, has the potential to be more efficient than being useful in single-phase conventional cooling methods. This results in considerable potential for thermal management in many fields like microelectronics, space technology, thermal power plants, etc. The increasing demand for heat dissipation, consequent to component miniaturization, has pushed the development of new strategies for enhancing heat transfer efficiency, such as employment of functionalized surfaces. This review aims to describe in detail the current status of technology related to flow boiling heat transfer enhancement via micro/nanoscale surface functionalization. Key objectives are an increased nucleation site density and enhanced bubble dynamics. The vast majority of findings show favorable heat transfer performance, evidenced by an earlier onset of boiling (ONB), an improved flow boiling heat transfer coefficient (HTC), and an ameliorated critical heat flux (CHF). Increased pressure drop is a serious concern in certain application cases. Nanoscale textures mainly enhance capillary wicking to nucleation sites, thus being more effective in combination with microscale textures that define fixed nucleation sites. Degradation effects need to be more thoroughly and systematically characterized for application cases. Extra effects related to the manufacturing process can be easily overlooked, but one should be aware of their possible existence when drawing conclusions. Finally, the implementation of enhanced surfaces in mainstream applications is hindered by the absence of general predictive design tools for different channel configurations/materials, fluids, and operating conditions. Sustainable development policy focuses on reducing the carbon footprint generated by the global industry and energy sector. Replacing conventional energy sources with environmentally friendly ones requires advanced research to increase energy efficiency and reduce the instability and intermittence of renewable sources. Moreover, adsorption chillers are an opportunity to introduce net-zero emission technologies to the refrigeration, air-conditioning, and desalination industries. Adsorption devices could be popularized if a method of effective heat transfer in the volume of the adsorption bed is developed. The innovative concept of introducing fluidized beds into the adsorption system can achieve the most promising results in improving energy efficiency. To confirm the adopted assumption, heat transfer coefficient calculations for the packed and fluidized bed were carried out in this paper based on experimental tests and literature data. The empirical research aims to extend the fundamental knowledge in the implementation of fluidization under low-pressure conditions, characteristic of the adsorption systems' working cycle. Experiments were conducted on a unique test stand equipped with the Intensified Heat Transfer Adsorption Bed (IHTAB) reactor prototype. Five adsorption bed samples were analyzed. The reference sample consisted only of silica gel, and the subsequent ones contained aluminum or carbon nanotubes with 5 and 10% additions. In the case of samples with admixtures, the fluidized state increased the heat transfer coefficient on average from approx. 36.9 W/m2 K to approx. 245.4 W/m2 K. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Thermoelectricity can assist in creating comfortable thermal environments through wearable solutions and local applications that keep the temperature comfortable around individuals. In the analysis of an indoor environment, thermal comfort depends on the global characteristics of the indoor volume and on the local thermal environment where the individuals develop their activity. This paper addresses the heat transfer mechanisms that refer to individuals, which operate in their working ambient when wearable thermoelectric solutions are used for enhancing heating or cooling within the local environment. After recalling the characteristics of the thermoelectric generators and illustrating the heat transfer mechanisms between the human body and the environment, the interactions between wearable thermoelectric generators and the human skin are discussed, considering the analytical representations of the thermal phenomena. The wearable solutions with thermoelectric generators for personal thermal management are then categorized by considering active and passive thermal management methods, natural and assisted heat exchange, autonomous and nonautonomous devices, and direct or indirect contact with the human body. The issue of maintaining low-gradient combustion in the conditions of high heat extraction has been investigated numerically in this work. The analyses include the application of a convective boundary condition at the wall (with estimated boiling heat transfer coefficient); analysis of the Internal Recirculation Device's impact on combustion products and heat transfer under low-gradient conditions; and comparison of both traditional and low-gradient combustion modes. It was shown that the Internal Recirculation Device material and geometry has a significant impact on the nitrogen oxide (NO x ) formation mechanism, as NO 2 emission becomes predominant and can rise up to several hundreds ppm. What is more, along with decrease in thermal resistance of the IRD, CO emissions also increase rapidly, even achieving over 2000 ppm. Additionally, the convective heat transfer rate decreased by about 25% after switching from traditional to low-gradient combustion, whereas the radiative mechanism increased by ≈40% compared to traditional mode. Mortise and tenon are very important parts of gas turbine dealing operation safety. Additionally, the temperature distribution of the turbine blade and disk is affected by the heat transfer characteristics in its gap. Then, the S-shaped mortise and tenon gap were numerically studied under rotating conditions, and the flow and heat transfer characteristics were analyzed. First, the heat transfer coefficient (HTC) of the mortise and tenon surfaces was measured with thermochromic liquid crystal. Then, the numerical method was verified using the test results, and the grid independence analysis was conducted. Finally, the flow and heat transfer characteristics of the gap under static and rotating conditions were numerically studied, five different Reynolds numbers (Re = 15,000, 20,000, 25,000, 30,000, 35,000) and five gap widths (d = 1 mm, 1.5 mm, 2 mm, 2.5 mm, 3 mm) were conducted and analyzed in detail. The results show that, under the rotating condition, the pressure distribution in the gap is different from that of the static condition; the pressure increases along the radial direction due to the action of centrifugal force and reaches its maximum value at the corner of the "S" shaped structure. With the increase in Re, the heat transfer intensity of the gap increases gradually. Additionally, the heat transfer intensity of the gap increases with an increase in its width. At present, microchannel heat exchangers are widely applied in the fields of air-conditioning and heat pumping applications given their high heat transfer performance, compact size, and low material cost. However, designing and optimizing the channel geometries remain challenging, as they require balancing multiple competing objectives to achieve the optimal performance. This study investigates various parameters, including the channel count, wetted perimeter, cross-sectional area, and mass flow rate for each channel, to achieve the optimal efficiency. The optimization objectives include maximizing the heat transfer rate, minimizing the refrigerant convective thermal resistance, maximizing the refrigerant heat transfer coefficient, and minimizing the pressure drop. A multi-objective genetic optimization algorithm, in conjunction with artificial neural network (ANN)-based machine learning models, was used to predict the heat transfer rate to speed up the calculation process during the optimization. We identified that a gradient reduction in the wetted perimeter from the air inlet along the airflow direction could enhance the heat transfer rate. Additionally, the results indicate that an increase in the number of channels leads to an enhanced heat transfer efficiency rate. However, with the increase in the number of channels, the cross-sectional area of each channel is correspondingly reduced to maintain a consistent overall cross-sectional area. This reduction increases the fluid resistance, leading to an increased pressure drop across the system. This observation is critical for a microchannel design optimization, highlighting the importance of attaining a balance between achieving a higher heat transfer efficiency and maintaining a favorable fluid dynamic performance. Transformers are the most important elements of electric power systems. Many conditions must be met for power transformers to work properly. One of them is a low operating temperature. This condition will be met if the transformer cooling system is properly designed. One of the components of a cooling system is insulating liquid. The heat transfer coefficient α of liquid determines its ability to cool the transformer. The higher its value, the more effectively the liquid transfers heat to the environment. This article describes the influence of the position of the heat source, which is usually in the windings of the transformer, on the coefficient α value of the insulating liquid. The vertical and horizontal positions of the heat source were analyzed. The coefficient α was analyzed at different points of the heat source. The tests were carried out for mineral oil and various esters. Heat transfer coefficient measurements were carried out for various surface heat loads of the heat source. It has been proven that, in the case of a horizontal heat source, the coefficient α has a value several dozen percent higher than in the case of a vertical source. It has been proven that the coefficient α has different values in different places of the heat source. The continuous solar collector is a promising heater and reactor for the hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of microalgae biomass. To enhance the heat transfer and hydrothermal conversion of microalgae slurry in solar-driven reactors, a static mixer is inserted in the flow channel of the solar collector. A numerical model combining CFD and HTL reactions of microalgae biomass is proposed. Six composition equations of protein, carbohydrates, lipids, biocrude, aqueous phase and biogas were proposed, while corresponding HTL kinetics were utilized to simulate the conversion rate of the reactants and products. The effects of the twist ratio of the static mixer (3–10), flow rate (30–80 L/h) and solar intensity (650, 750, 850 W/m2) on the flow resistance, heat transfer and organics formation of microalgae slurry were investigated. The swirl flow caused by the static mixer with a twist ratio of three increased the convective heat transfer coefficient (97 W·m−2·K−1) by 2.06 times, while the production rate of biocrude (0.074 g·L−1·s−1) increased by 2.05 times at 50 L/h and 750 W/m2. This investigation gives guidance for utilizing static mixers in solar-driven reactors to optimize the heat transfer and HTL of microalgae biomass with solar heat sources. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The cross-wave primary surface recuperator (CW-PSR) is a dependable option as a recuperator for micro gas turbines (MGT). The micro CW-PSR studied in this paper is composed of 171 stacked curved plates, with each plate containing 33 micro heat transfer channels with equivalent diameters of less than 1 mm. In this study, the influence of bending curvature on the thermal performance of CW-PSR plates is investigated through three-dimensional numerical simulation with fluid–solid–thermal coupling. The results indicate that the variation in bending curvature studied can result in a noteworthy 8% difference in the total heat transfer coefficient of CW-PSR plates. A direct correlation between heat transfer capacity and secondary flow strength is derived mathematically, explaining the mechanism by which secondary flow enhances heat transfer. By employing this relationship, a comprehensive analysis of CW-PSR plates with diverse bending curvatures is conducted, effectively showcasing how curvature influences the secondary flow pattern and enhances the channel's heat transfer capacity. In addition, this paper considers the comprehensive influence of the size parameters of the heat transfer unit and the bending curvature of the heat transfer plate on the heat transfer and flow characteristics of the CW-PSR, and a dominant mathematical expression is obtained, which can be used for the design of similar heat exchangers of the same type. In this paper, pool boiling of ethanol at atmospheric pressure was analyzed. The enhanced surfaces were made of copper, on which grooves with a depth ranging from 0.2 to 0.5 mm were milled in parallel. The widths of the microchannels and the distances between them were 0.2 mm, 0.3 mm and 0.4 mm, respectively. The highest heat transfer coefficient, 90.3 kW/m2K, was obtained for the surface with a microchannel depth of 0.5 mm and a width of 0.2 mm. The maximum heat flux was 1035 kW/m2. For the analyzed surfaces, the maximum heat flux increase of two and a half times was obtained, while the heat transfer coefficient increased three-fold in relation to the smooth surface. In the given range of heat flux 21.2–1035 kW/m2, the impact of geometric parameters on the heat transfer process was presented. The diameters of the departing bubbles were determined experimentally with the use of a high-speed camera. The freeze-drying of biopharmaceuticals is a common strategy to extend their shelf-life and facilitate the distribution of therapeutics. The drying phase is the most demanding one in terms of energy consumption and determines the overall process time. Our previous work showed how the loading configuration can impact freezing. This paper focuses on primary drying by comparing the thermal behaviour of vials loaded in direct contact with the shelf or nested in a rack system. The overall heat transfer coefficient from the apparatus to the product was evaluated at different chamber pressures (5–30 Pa) and shelf temperatures (from −10 °C to +30 °C), and in the case of various vial positions (central, semi-border, and border vials). Because of the suspended configuration, the heat transfer coefficient was less affected by chamber pressure in vials nested in a rack system. The two loading configurations displayed comparable heat transfer efficiency below 10 Pa. For higher chamber pressure, the heat transfer coefficients of nested vials were lower than those of vials in direct contact with the shelf. Nevertheless, the rack system was beneficial for reducing the inter-vial variability as it promoted higher uniformity in the heat transfer coefficients of central vials. To study the heat and mass transfer characteristics of an evaporative cooler for cooling high-temperature working fluids, an experimental device of the evaporative cooler was built, and a corresponding test system was constructed. Then, the experimental study was carried out based on an orthogonal experimental design, and the law and extent of the influence of water flow in the tube, the spray water flow rate, the inlet water temperature in the tube, and the air flow rate on the heat dissipation, cooling efficiency, and heat and mass transfer coefficients were obtained. Pillow-plate heat exchangers (PPHEs) represent a suitable alternative to conventional shell-and-tube and plate heat exchangers. The inherent waviness of their channels promotes fluid mixing in the boundary layers and facilitates heat transfer. The overall thermo-hydraulic performance of PPHEs can further be enhanced by applying secondary surface structuring, thus increasing their competitiveness against conventional heat exchangers. In this work, various secondary structures applied on the PPHE surface were studied numerically to explore their potential to enhance near-wall mixing. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of single-phase turbulent flow in the outer PPHE channel were performed and pressure drop, heat transfer coefficients, and overall thermo-hydraulic efficiency were determined. The use of a micro heat sink is an effective means of solving the problem of high-power chip heat dissipation. Diamond/Cu composites exhibit high thermal conductivity and a linear thermal expansion coefficient that is compatible with semiconductor materials, rendering them ideal micro heat sink materials. The aim of this study was to fabricate diamond/Cu and Cu separately as heat sinks and subject them to flow boiling heat transfer experiments. The results indicate that the diamond/Cu heat sink displayed a decrease in wall superheat of 10.2–14.5 °C and an improvement in heat transfer coefficient of 38–51% compared with the Cu heat sink under identical heat fluxes. The heat sink also exhibits enhanced thermal uniformity. Secondary diamond particles are incorporated into the gaps of the main diamonds, thereby constructing a three-dimensional heat conduction network within the composite material. The diamond network enhances the internal heat flux of the material while also creating more nucleation sites on the surface. These increase the boiling intensity of the diamond/Cu heat sink, leading to better heat transfer performance. By combining the transient thermal model with computational fluid dynamics, a heat transfer model based on the diamond/Cu heat sink is proposed. The efficient heat dissipation capability of diamond/Cu heat sinks can lower the working temperature of microelectronic devices, thereby improving device performance and reliability during operation. This paper introduces an inverse study method applied to an experimental dataset of infrared temperature acquisitions to determine the local convective heat transfer coefficient of the turbulent flow inside a duct with corrugated surfaces. The study focuses on six tubes with different corrugation profiles: helical, transversal, and cross-helical. Previous research has shown that transversal corrugation generates the highest improvement in heat transfer performance, while helical corrugations are the easiest to manufacture. Consequently, the single helix solution is the preferred one in heat exchangers adopted in the food industry. A merger solution between them is represented by the cross-helix profile. The estimation process proposed in this study employs the external surface temperature of the tube, acquired with an infrared thermal camera, as starting data for the inverse heat conduction problem inside the pipe wall region. Surface porosity is an important means of enhancing boiling heat transfer. In this paper, two kinds of composite porous structures of surface micropore + square channel and framework micropore + square channel were prepared by selective laser melting technology using AlSi10Mg as the powder material. The effect of composites with different pore forms on boiling heat transfer was investigated in pool boiling experiments. It was found that controlling the thickness of the powder layer manufactured by selective laser melting can change the surface roughness of the sample, and the sandblasting treatment reduced the surface roughness of the samples. The average heat transfer coefficient of the rough surface composite porous structure sample was increased by 40% compared to the sandblasted sample. The micropores on the surface of the sample and inside the framework significantly enhanced the heat transfer coefficient of the composite porous structure. The presence of surface micropores increased the heat transfer area and the vaporization core density of the composite porous structure and exhibited excellent heat transfer coefficient improvement in the low heat flux region. The framework microporous composite porous structure can form effective gas–liquid diversion at high heat flux and obtain higher heat transfer performance. Building thermal insulation and energy conservation have become urgent problems in the field of civil engineering because they are important for achieving the goal of carbon neutralization. Thermal conductivity is an important index for evaluating the thermal insulation of materials. To study the influence of different porosity levels on the thermal conductivity of materials, this paper established a random distribution model using MATLAB and conducted a comparative analysis using COMSOL finite element software and classical theoretical numerical calculation formulas. The thermal conductivity of composite materials was determined based on a theoretical calculation formula and COMSOL software simulations, and the theoretical calculation results and simulation results were compared with the measured thermal conductivity of the composites. Furthermore, the influence of the width of the gaps between the materials on the heat transfer process was simulated in the fabricated roof structure. The results showed the following: (1) The thermal conductivity values calculated using the Zimmerman model were quite different from those calculated using the Campbell-Allen model and those calculated using the COMSOL software; (2) The thermal conductivity values calculated using the theoretical calculation formula were lower than the measured data, and the maximum relative error was more than 29%. The COMSOL simulation results were in good agreement with the measured data, and the relative error was less than 5%; (3) When the gap width was less than 60 mm, it increased linearly with the heat transfer coefficient. The heat transfer coefficient increased slowly when the gap width was greater than 60 mm. This was mainly due to the thermal bridge effect inside the insulation system. This study investigates the heat and mass transfer characteristics of a binary mixture (R134a/R245fa) evaporated in a porous medium. The Eulerian model coupled with the multiphase VOF model and species transport equations is employed to establish a multi-component evaporation model. The effects of heat flux ranging from 200 kW/m2 to 500 kW/m2, porosity ranging from 0.4 to 0.6, and mass fraction ratios (R134a/R245fa) of 3:7, 5:5, and 7:3 are explored. The results indicate that an increase in heat flux contributes to an increase in the evaporation rate. For the overall evaporation rate, the evaporation rates of R134a and R245fa improve by 11.3%, 6.9%, and 16.3%, respectively, while the maximum improvement in heat transfer coefficient is only 1.4%. The maximum evaporation rate is achieved at intermediate porosity in the porous medium, and the highest heat transfer coefficient is obtained at a porosity of 0.4. With the increase in mass fraction, the evaporation rate of the corresponding species also increases, while the overall evaporation rate and heat transfer coefficient remain almost unchanged. Using supercritical CO2 as a heat transfer fluid in microchannel receivers is a promising alternative for tower concentrating solar power plants. In this paper, the heat transfer and flow characteristics of supercritical CO2 in microchannels at high temperature are investigated by numerical simulations. The effects of microchannel structure, mass flow rate, heat flux, pressure, inlet temperature and radiation are analyzed and discussed. The results show that higher mass flow rate obtains poorer heat transfer performance with larger flow resistance of supercritical CO2 in microchannels at high temperature. The fluid and wall temperatures, average heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop all increase nearly linearly with the increases in heat flux and inlet temperature in the high-temperature region. Moreover, high pressure contributes to great hydraulic performance with approximate thermal performance. The effect of radiation on thermal performance is more pronounced than that on hydraulic performance. Furthermore, the optimized structures of inlet and outlet headers, as well as those of the multichannel in the microchannels, are proposed to obtain good temperature uniformity in the microchannels with relatively low pressure drop. The results given in the current study can be conducive to the design and application of microchannel receivers with supercritical CO2 as a heat transfer fluid in the third generation of concentrating solar power plants. The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the heat transfer mechanism of a new type of regenerator with a low temperature difference and low current resistance under oscillatory flow at room temperature. Taking the single tube of the regenerator as the research object, the exact analytical solution of the radial heat transfer characteristics of the regenerator is obtained by studying its analytical model. The factors affecting the heat transfer characteristics are analyzed, and then the regenerator is optimized to improve the performance and efficiency of the regenerator system. In this study, we systematically analyzed the radial heat transfer characteristics of a regenerator under isochoric process conditions. A closed-system physical model of the incompressible isochoric process under oscillating flow was established. Then, the radial analytical solutions of pressure fluctuation, fluid velocity, fluid-solid temperature, and heat were derived in the complex number field. Furthermore, the fluid velocity, fluid-solid coupling wall temperature, heat, and equivalent heat transfer coefficient were assessed. Furthermore, the influences of frequency, inner diameter R1 of the regenerator, and different working medium and materials on the above parameters were discussed. It was found that the analysis and evaluation of fluid velocity, fluid-structure coupling wall temperature, heat, and equivalent heat transfer coefficient are helpful in understanding the dynamic characteristics of radial heat transfer in a regenerator system. Through the study of radial heat transfer under oscillating flow, it was found that the working medium, frequency, inner diameter of the regenerator, and material quality of the regenerator are helpful for the design optimization of the regenerator. Furthermore, our investigations established that the variation law of wall fluid-solid coupling temperature amplitude could be divided into three parts: the unidirectional flow part; the low-frequency part, where the temperature amplitude falls rapidly with increasing frequency; and the high-frequency part, where the temperature amplitude increases with the frequency. In addition, the variation of radial heat transfer of the fluid-solid coupling surface is similar to the changes in the temperature amplitude. We also discovered that the equivalent heat transfer coefficient of the fluid-solid surface is related to thermal conductivity of the material. Specifically, larger thermal conductivity values result in greater equivalent heat transfer coefficients. In this paper, the effect of solar intensity on the heat pipe tip temperature in a heat pipe type—evacuated-tube solar collector (HP-ETSC) was investigated. A simple relation was proposed, relating the solar intensity to the heat pipe tip temperature generated from the experimental data. This simple empirical relation was applied in a set of heat transfer equations derived to predict the heating medium temperature at the manifold outlet of the evacuated-tube solar collector. The calculated results corresponding to two types of heating medium, i.e., palm oil and water, were compared with experimental results from the literature. The results show that the average error was 6.41% for the case of palm oil and 4.66% for the case of water. Based on the case of water as a heating medium fluid, it was found that the flow rate of the heating medium fluid affected the accuracy of prediction, as the percentage error increased with the heating medium flow rate. The maximum percentage error increased from only 1.83% for a water inlet flowing at a Reynolds number of about 2.4 × 103 to 15.23% for a water flow rate at a Reynolds number of about 2.6 × 104. The correction factor was added into the correlation to predict the heat transfer coefficients of heating medium fluids. With this correction factor, the maximum error could be reduced from 11.78% to 7.29% for the palm oil case and from 15.23% to 5.57% for the water case. One of the effective methods for energy conservation and emission reduction in coal mines is to utilize waste heat recovery technology to recover mine return air waste heat. The gravity heat pipe is widely used in mine return air waste heat recovery due to its sustainable and economic advantages, but its heat transfer is a complex process influenced by multiple parameters. A single-tube heat transfer resistance model and a heat transfer calculation model based on enthalpy difference were established for the heat exchange tubes. Four typical application cases of a low flow rate and a low number of tube rows were selected, and their heat transfer characteristics were tested onsite and analyzed. It was found that there were problems such as a low overall heat transfer efficiency, a low fresh air outlet temperature, and a risk of icing in the final tube section. The effects of the gravity heat pipe parameters on the heat transfer performance were studied, such as the tube outer diameter, tube spacing, and the finned tube outer diameter. It was found that the air-resistant force of the heat exchanger increased with the increase of the tube spacing and the finned tube outer diameter, the heat transfer resistance increased with the increase of the tube spacing and the decrease of the finned tube outer diameter, and the heat transfer coefficient first increased and then decreased with the increase of the tube outer diameter. A configuration improvement scheme with a high flow rate and a high number of tube rows is proposed here. Taking Case 2 as an example, the temperature distribution of the heat tube before and after improvement is compared and analyzed. The results show that the heat transfer performance of the heat exchange system significantly improved. Without increasing the air resistance of the heat tube, the temperature of the return air outlet after improvement was reduced to 1.1 °C, 4.1 °C lower than that before improvement, further recovering the waste heat of the mine return air. The temperature of the condensate water film was greater than 0.5 °C, avoiding the icing problem of the condensate tube section, the fresh air outlet temperature reached 5.2 °C, an increase of 7.8 °C compared to that before improvement, and the overall heat transfer efficiency increased from 56.7% to 66%. This experimental work presents the results of measurements of thermal conductivity λ and convection heat transfer coefficient h on regular structure PLA and aluminium foams with low density ratio (~0.15), carried out with a TCP (thermal conductivity probe), built by the authors' laboratory. Measurements were performed with two fluids, water and air: pure fluids, and samples with the PLA and aluminium foams immersed in both fluids have been tested. Four temperatures (10, 20, 30, 40 °C) and various temperature differences during the tests ΔT (between 0.35 and 9 °C) were applied. Also, tests in water mixed with 0.5% of a gel (agar agar) have been run in order to increase the water viscosity and to avoid convection starting. For these tests, at the end of the heating, the temperature of the probe reaches steady-state values, when all the thermal power supplied by the probe is transferred to the cooled cell wall; thermal conductivity was also evaluated through the guarded hot ring (GHR) method. A difference was found between the results of λ in steady-state and transient regimes, likely due to the difference of the sample volume interested by heating during the tests. Also, the effect of the temperature difference ΔT on the behaviour of the pure fluid and foams was outlined. The mutual effect of thermal conductivity and free convection heat transfer results in being extremely important to describe the behaviour of such kinds of composites when they are used to increase or to reduce the heat transfer, as heat conductors or insulators. Therefore, heat transfer during flow with a change of phase in mini-channels turned out to be a necessary solution to achieve high heat fluxes with reasonably miniature geometrical dimensions and a temperature at a not very high level within the heat exchanger device. The thermal and mechanical perfection of the processes in the gas exchange system during the filling and emptying of the cylinder makes it possible to increase the productivity and efficiency of reciprocating machines for various purposes. The study was designed to obtain experimental data on the local heat transfer of pulsating flows in the intake and outlet pipelines of a piston engine model, their analysis, and mathematical description. The scientific novelty of the study is as follows: (1) the patterns of change in the local heat transfer coefficients of pulsating gas flows in the inlet and outlet pipelines for the piston engine model were obtained for the first time; (2) a mathematical description of the experimental data on local and average heat transfer in the inlet and outlet pipelines is proposed. The physical features of the change in the rate of heat transfer in the intake and exhaust systems for a full engine cycle are discussed. A spectral analysis of the harmonic functions of the change in the local heat-transfer coefficient in gas exchange systems is performed. A set of mathematical dependencies of changes in the local and average heat-transfer coefficients of flows in the inlet and outlet pipelines on operation factors are presented. These data can be used to assess the quality of filling and cleaning the cylinder, determining thermal stresses in the details of gas exchange systems, developing devices for using exhaust gas energy, creating engine control systems, and so on. Flow boiling is a complex process but very efficient for thermal management in different sectors; enhancing flow boiling heat transfer properties is a research field of great interest. This study proposes the use of various nanomaterials, carbon-based materials, and metal oxides; in n-pentane as a hydrocarbon-based refrigerant to enhance the flow boiling heat transfer coefficient. This thermal property has been experimentally evaluated using a vertical evaporation device of glass with an internal diameter of 20 mm. The results have shown that proposed nanomaterials dispersion in n-pentane has a limited effect on the thermophysical properties and is conditioned by their dispersibility but promotes a significant increment of pentane heat transfer coefficient (h), increasing the overall heat transfer coefficient (U) of the evaporator. The enhanced heat transfer performance is attributed to the behavior of nanoparticles under working conditions and their interaction with the working surface, promoting a higher generation of nucleation sites. Fog-harvesting performance is influenced by surface wettability, patterned structure and the heat transfer coefficient. In this work, we have prepared different surfaces with a stripe array of superhydrophilic, superslippery and superslippery/superhydrophilic surfaces for fog harvesting on silicon substrates using photolithography and silver-assisted chemical etching. The surface wettability and heat transfer coefficients of the above samples have been investigated. We analyzed the contact angle, sliding angle and transport state of droplets on these surfaces. The fog-harvesting rate of all samples under different voltages of the cooling pad (V = 0, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5 V) was measured. Results showed that the superslippery/superhydrophilic striped surface could achieve rapid droplet nucleation, directional transport and efficient collection due to its superhydrophilic striated channels and the Laplace pressure difference between different wettability regions. At a condensation voltage of 3.5 V, the fog-harvesting rate efficiencies of the uniformly striped superhydrophilic and superslippery surface were 1351 mg·cm−2·h−1 and 1265 mg·cm−2·h−1, respectively, while the fog-harvesting rate of the superslippery/superhydrophilic striped surface was 1748 mg·cm−2·h−1. Compared with the original silicon surface, the maximum fog-harvesting rate of the superslippery/superhydrophilic striped surface was improved by 86.9%. A Printed Circuit Heat Exchanger (PCHE) is a compact heat exchanger with high temperature and pressure resistance and is considered one of the best choices for the recuperators in the Supercritical Carbon dioxide (S-CO2) Brayton cycle. The flow and heat transfer performance of sinusoidal channel PCHE were analyzed and a second-order regression model was established based on the response surface method to improve the performance of the continuous channel PCHE. It was found that reducing the channel diameter, increasing the channel amplitude, and reducing the channel pitch can increase the average value of the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop per unit length. Moreover, sensitivity coefficient analysis was used to investigate the influence of various structural parameters on flow performance, heat transfer performance, and comprehensive performance. In addition, the structure of the sinusoidal channel PCHE was optimized using a multi-objective genetic algorithm, and three sets of Pareto optimal solutions were obtained. The corresponding optimal channel diameter D, channel amplitude A, and channel pitch Lp were in the range of 1.0–1.7 mm, 2.4–3.0 mm, and 15.1–17.0 mm, respectively, which can provide theoretical basis for the design of PCHE. Three-dimensional subcooled flow boiling of R134a in a threaded tube was numerically simulated at the conditions of 200~400 kW/m2 heat flux, 3~20 K inlet subcooling, and 0.2~0.6 m/s inlet velocity. The bubble behavior in the horizontal threaded tube with 0.581 mm thread tooth height was observed. The effect of heat flux, inlet subcooling, and inlet velocity on bubble departure diameter and heat transfer coefficient were explored. The results presented the whole growth process of five kinds of bubbles. It was found that the bubbles either collapsed in cold liquid after leaving the heating wall or grew along the axial direction and contacted the heating wall. And there was no bubble sliding during the growth. In addition, the most important and special characteristic of bubble behavior in threaded tubes was the phenomenon of the bubble passing through the cavity. The coalescence and breakup behavior occurred after the bubble passed through the cavity. According to the discussions of the departure diameter and heat transfer coefficient, it was inferred that the bubble departure diameter increased with the increase of heat flux from 200~400 kW/m2 and subcooling from 3~20 K while decreasing with the increase of inlet velocity from 0.2~0.6 m/s. And due to the influence of the threaded tube structure, there are special points in the change of bubble departure diameter. The heat transfer coefficient of the bubbles in the threaded tube was higher than the smooth tube, which was increased by 1.5~12.5%. Such energy loss can result in sudden death, severe hypothermia, anemia, high or low blood pressure, and heart surgery. Gold and iron oxide nanoparticles are significant in cancer treatment. Thus, there is a growing interest among biomedical engineers and clinicians in the study of entropy production as a means of quantifying energy dissipation in biological systems. The present study provides a novel implementation of an intelligent numerical computing solver based on an MLP feed-forward backpropagation ANN with the Levenberg–Marquard algorithm to interpret the Cattaneo–Christov heat flux model and demonstrate the effect of entropy production and melting heat transfer on the ferrohydrodynamic flow of the Fe3O4-Au/blood Powell–Eyring hybrid nanofluid. Similarity transformation studies symmetry and simplifies PDEs to ODEs. The MATLAB program bvp4c is used to solve the nonlinear coupled ordinary differential equations. Graphs illustrate the impact of a wide range of physical factors on variables, including velocity, temperature, entropy generation, local skin friction coefficient, and heat transfer rate. The artificial neural network model engages in a process of data selection, network construction, training, and evaluation through the use of mean square error. The ferromagnetic parameter, porosity parameter, distance from origin to magnetic dipole, inertia coefficient, dimensionless Curie temperature ratio, fluid parameters, Eckert number, thermal radiation, heat source, thermal relaxation parameter, and latent heat of the fluid parameter are taken as input data, and the skin friction coefficient and heat transfer rate are taken as output data. A total of sixty data collections were used for the purpose of testing, certifying, and training the ANN model. From the results, it is found that the fluid temperature declines when the thermal relaxation parameter is improved. The latent heat of the fluid parameter impacts the entropy generation and Bejan number. This paper studies the evaporative heat transfer characteristics of R744 at low temperatures in a horizontal smooth tube as a cascade refrigeration system (CRS) among hybrid cascade refrigeration systems (HCRSs). There is a lack of research on the low-temperature evaporative heat transfer characteristics of R744 under the operating conditions of evaporators used in actual CRSs used in supermarkets. Therefore, this study aims to provide basic data on the evaporative heat transfer characteristics of R744 in the evaporators of refrigerators used in supermarkets. The tube used in the evaporation experiment conducted herein was a smooth horizontal copper tube with an inner diameter and length of 11.46 mm and 8000 mm, respectively. The experimental parameters were as follows: heat fluxes of 11.8–21.3 kW/m2, mass fluxes of 76.3–175.1 kg/(m2·s), and saturation temperatures of −49.8–−30.2 °C. The main results are summarized as follows: the evaporative heat transfer coefficient of R744 can be predicted well by using the correlation formula of Chen at the evaporation temperature of −40 °C in the CRS.
