The ever-increasing demand for effective heat dissipation and temperature control in industrial and everyday applications highlights a critical research problem. The need for development is not only in terms of providing thermal comfort to humans but also forms the basis for the efficient operation of machines and equipment. Cooling of industrial machinery and household electronic equipment is a crucial element in any manufacturing process, and the planning and design of appropriate cooling systems continues to be an integral part of the machine design and construction process. Manufacturers aim to maximize performance while minimizing size and weight. This article reviews widely used passive methods to enhance heat transfer, focusing on their effectiveness in improving convective heat transfer. The techniques examined include surface modifications and advanced materials like foamed metals and nanostructured coatings, which influence turbulence and heat transfer coefficients. The key findings demonstrate that surface roughness, perforated fins, and twisted tapes enhance fluid mixing but may increase flow resistance. The review underscores the significance of these passive methods in optimizing cooling system efficiency across various applications. Unsteady gas-dynamic phenomena in pipelines of complex configuration are widespread in heat exchange and power equipment. Therefore, studying the heat transfer level of pulsating air flows in round and triangular pipes with different turbulence intensities is a relevant and significant task for the development of science and technology. The studies were conducted on a laboratory stand based on the thermal anemometry method and an automated system for collecting and processing experimental data. Rectilinear round and triangular pipes with identical cross-sectional areas were used in the work. Flow pulsations from 3 to 15.8 Hz were generated by means of a rotating flap. The turbulence intensity (TI) of the pulsating flows varied from 0.03 to 0.15 by installing stationary flat turbulators. The working medium was air with a temperature of 22 ± 1 °C moving at a speed from 5 to 75 m/s. It was established that the presence of gas-dynamic unsteadiness leads to an increase in the TI by 47–72% in a round pipe and by 36–86% in a triangular pipe. The presence of gas-dynamic unsteadiness causes a heat transfer intensification in a round pipe by 26–35.5% and by 24–36% in a triangular pipe. It was shown that a significant increase in the TI of pulsating flows leads to an increase in the heat transfer coefficient by 11–16% in a round pipe and a decrease in the heat transfer coefficient by 7–24% in a triangular pipe. The obtained results can be used in the design of heat exchangers and gas exchange systems in power machines, as well as in the creation of devices and apparatuses of pulse action. Thermochemical energy storage (TCES) presents a promising method for energy storage due to its high storage density and capacity for long-term storage. A combination of TCES and district heating networks exhibits an appealing alternative to natural gas boilers, particularly through the utilisation of industrial waste heat to achieve the UK government's target of Net Zero by 2050. The most pivotal aspects of TCES design are the selected materials, reactor configuration, and heat transfer efficiency. Among the array of potential reactors, the fluidised bed emerges as a novel solution due to its ability to bypass traditional design limitations; the fluidised nature of these reactors provides high heat transfer coefficients, improved mixing and uniformity, and greater fluid-particle contact. This research endeavours to assess the enhancement of thermochemical fluidised bed systems through material characterisation and development techniques, alongside the optimisation of heat transfer. The analysis underscores the appeal of calcium and magnesium hydroxides for TCES, particularly when providing a buffer between medium-grade waste heat supply and district heat demand. Enhancement techniques such as doping and nanomaterial/composite coating are also explored, which are found to improve agglomeration, flowability, and operating conditions of the hydroxide systems. Furthermore, the optimisation of heat transfer prompted an evaluation of heat exchanger configurations and heat transfer fluids. Helical coil heat exchangers are predominantly favoured over alternative configurations, while various heat transfer fluids are considered advantageous depending on TCES material selection. In this paper, a comprehensive analysis of the combined effect of major influencing parameters on heat transfer in a single U-tube BHE (sBHE) and a double U-tube BHE (dBHE) with two independent circuits was performed by using a validated numerical heat transfer model. Geometrical parameters, such as shank spacing (with maximum, average, and minimum values), borehole diameter (large, medium, and small borehole sizes), and borehole depth (shallow, average, and deep borehole depths) as well as the thermal conductivity of soil and grout, which ranges from minimum to high values, were considered. The combined impact of these parameters was included under the following four major cases: (1) the combined effect of borehole depth, borehole size, and shank spacing; (2) the combined effect of borehole depth and soil and grout thermal conductivity; (3) the combined effect of soil and grout thermal conductivity and borehole size; and (4) the combined effect of soil thermal conductivity, borehole size, and shank spacing. Each of these major cases has nine different design options for both sBHEs and dBHEs. A series of results of heat transfer per unit borehole depth were generated for all the considered various cases. This article addresses the design of a compact heat exchanger for the cooling of electronic systems. The Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method is used to identify crucial product features to improve device performance and key customer requirements. The QFD simplifies management processes, allowing modifications to device components, such as design parameters (dimensions and materials) and operating conditions (flow type and preferred temperature range). The study was applied to analyse the fundamental features of a compact heat exchanger, assessing their impact on enhancing heat transfer intensity during fluid flow through mini-channels. The thermal efficiency of the compact heat exchanger was tested experimentally. The results allow to verify the results obtained from the numerical simulations due to Simcenter STAR-CCM+. Consequently, the experimental part was reduced in favour of numerical simulations conducted using this commercial CFD software version 2020.2.1 Build 15.04.01. The numerical simulations performed with the aid of CFD showed increases in the heat transfer coefficient of up to 180% compared to the case treated as a reference. The application of the QFD matrix significantly reduces the time required to develop suitable design and material solutions and determine the operating parameters for the cooling of miniature electronic devices. The thermal conductivity of recently produced hexagonal boron nitride (hBN)-containing nanofluids is comparatively higher than their viscosity, indicating that these materials belong to a relatively novel class. In this study, hBN–water nanofluids in stable and dispersed concentrations were used in parallel and counterflow experiments at volumes of 0.01%, 0.1%, and 1%, as well as at various flow rates and Reynolds numbers. When employing hBN–water nanofluid in a counter-flow heat exchanger instead of distilled water, the results showed a 16.7% increase in the overall heat transfer coefficient. The findings also showed that, in comparison to a counter-flow heat exchanger, employing hBN nanofluid as the cold fluid in a parallel-flow heat exchanger produced superior results in terms of an increase in heat transfer. An efficient and accurate method for optimizing capsule-type plate heat exchangers is proposed in this paper. This method combines computational fluid dynamics simulation, a backpropagation algorithm and multi-objective optimization to obtain better heat transfer performance of heat exchanger structures. For plate heat exchangers, the heat transfer coefficient j and friction coefficient f are a pair of contradictory objectives. The optimization of capsule-type plate heat exchangers is a multi-objective optimization problem. In this paper, a backpropagation neural network was used to construct an approximate model. The plate shape was optimized by a multi-objective genetic algorithm. The optimized capsule-type plate heat exchanger has lower flow resistance and higher heat exchange efficiency. After optimization, the heat transfer coefficient is increased by 8.3% and the friction coefficient is decreased by 14.3%, and the heat transfer effect is obviously improved. Lattice structures such as triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) structures have gained significance due to advancements in additive manufacturing, particularly 3D printing, which enable their engineering to be tailored to specific applications, such as heat exchangers. While traditional heat exchanger designs have been extensively studied, investigations into the thermal performance of TPMS structures are limited. Considering the extensive range of the geometric design variations in TPMS structures, highly efficient structures on par with the performance of conventional heat exchanger designs can be expected. This study aims to comprehensively evaluate the thermal and flow characteristics of a specific TPMS structure (Fischer Koch S), and, in particular, the impact of various volume fractions on its heat transfer performance and on its friction factor. Another key objective of this study is to develop Nusselt and friction factor correlations as a function of the investigated volume fractions for potential use in future design tools. To this end, a broad CFD study was carried out. Additionally, this study provides insights into the procedures involved in generating Fischer Koch S geometries and the modeling methodology employed in CFD investigations. Based on the results of the CFD study, the thermal and fluid dynamic performances of Fischer Koch unit cells were evaluated, resulting in heat transfer coefficients up to 160 W/m2K for the investigated structures. A comparison between the heat transfer coefficient of the examined TPMS structure and a conventional plate heat exchanger suggested a potential increase in the heat transfer coefficient of approximately 35%. The generated CFD data were subsequently utilized to formulate fitting correlations for the Nusselt number and friction factors as a function of the volume fraction. The potential use of carbon steel in CO2-saturated brine is studied for its potential use in heat exchangers in geothermal applications. A dedicated setup, including a double-pipe heat exchanger, is developed to study the relation between corrosion and the thermohydraulic behavior inside heat exchangers. Hot brine flows inside the inner carbon steel tube, thus corroding the inner surface of this tube. The thermohydraulic behavior of the heat exchanger, i.e., the pressure drop over the pipe and the heat transfer rate through the pipe, are continuously monitored. On the other hand, weight-loss experiments and microscopic analyses are performed on samples that are periodically removed from the setup. The corrosion rate is studied as a function of temperature, i.e., the entrance vs. the exit of the heat-exchanging section, and flow. Therefore, an experiment with static brine and a uniform temperature is used as a reference. The corrosion rate is generally higher in dynamic compared to static conditions. Furthermore, the corrosion rate increases with increasing temperature in dynamic conditions, whereas it decreases with increasing temperature in static conditions. These observations might be explained by the different corrosion products that formed. The corrosion products have no significant effect on the pressure drop over the pipe, but clear fluctuations in the heat transfer coefficient are observed. At present, microchannel heat exchangers are widely applied in the fields of air-conditioning and heat pumping applications given their high heat transfer performance, compact size, and low material cost. However, designing and optimizing the channel geometries remain challenging, as they require balancing multiple competing objectives to achieve the optimal performance. This study investigates various parameters, including the channel count, wetted perimeter, cross-sectional area, and mass flow rate for each channel, to achieve the optimal efficiency. The optimization objectives include maximizing the heat transfer rate, minimizing the refrigerant convective thermal resistance, maximizing the refrigerant heat transfer coefficient, and minimizing the pressure drop. A multi-objective genetic optimization algorithm, in conjunction with artificial neural network (ANN)-based machine learning models, was used to predict the heat transfer rate to speed up the calculation process during the optimization. We identified that a gradient reduction in the wetted perimeter from the air inlet along the airflow direction could enhance the heat transfer rate. Additionally, the results indicate that an increase in the number of channels leads to an enhanced heat transfer efficiency rate. However, with the increase in the number of channels, the cross-sectional area of each channel is correspondingly reduced to maintain a consistent overall cross-sectional area. This reduction increases the fluid resistance, leading to an increased pressure drop across the system. This observation is critical for a microchannel design optimization, highlighting the importance of attaining a balance between achieving a higher heat transfer efficiency and maintaining a favorable fluid dynamic performance. The cross-wave primary surface recuperator (CW-PSR) is a dependable option as a recuperator for micro gas turbines (MGT). The micro CW-PSR studied in this paper is composed of 171 stacked curved plates, with each plate containing 33 micro heat transfer channels with equivalent diameters of less than 1 mm. In this study, the influence of bending curvature on the thermal performance of CW-PSR plates is investigated through three-dimensional numerical simulation with fluid–solid–thermal coupling. The results indicate that the variation in bending curvature studied can result in a noteworthy 8% difference in the total heat transfer coefficient of CW-PSR plates. A direct correlation between heat transfer capacity and secondary flow strength is derived mathematically, explaining the mechanism by which secondary flow enhances heat transfer. By employing this relationship, a comprehensive analysis of CW-PSR plates with diverse bending curvatures is conducted, effectively showcasing how curvature influences the secondary flow pattern and enhances the channel's heat transfer capacity. In addition, this paper considers the comprehensive influence of the size parameters of the heat transfer unit and the bending curvature of the heat transfer plate on the heat transfer and flow characteristics of the CW-PSR, and a dominant mathematical expression is obtained, which can be used for the design of similar heat exchangers of the same type. To numerically investigate the flow and heat transfer characteristics of a water/Al2O3 nanofluid in a double-pipe helical coil heat exchanger, we simulated a two-phase Eulerian model to predict the heat transfer coefficient, Nusselt number, and pressure drop at various concentrations (i.e., volume fraction) and under diverse flow rates at the steady state. In this simulation, we used the k-epsilon turbulence model with an enhanced wall treatment method. The performance factor of the nanofluid was evaluated by accounting for the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics. As a result, the heat transfer was enhanced by increasing the nanofluid concentration. The 1.0 vol.% nanofluid (i.e., the highest concentration) showed a heat transfer coefficient 1.43 times greater than water and a Nusselt number of 1.38 times greater than water. The pressure drop of nanofluids was greater than that of water due to the increased density and viscosity induced using nanoparticles. Based on the relationship between the Nusselt number and pressure drop, the 1.0 vol.% nanofluid was calculated to have a performance factor of 1.4 relative to water, indicating that the enhancement rate in heat transfer performance was greater than that in the pressure drop. Pillow-plate heat exchangers (PPHEs) represent a suitable alternative to conventional shell-and-tube and plate heat exchangers. The inherent waviness of their channels promotes fluid mixing in the boundary layers and facilitates heat transfer. The overall thermo-hydraulic performance of PPHEs can further be enhanced by applying secondary surface structuring, thus increasing their competitiveness against conventional heat exchangers. In this work, various secondary structures applied on the PPHE surface were studied numerically to explore their potential to enhance near-wall mixing. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of single-phase turbulent flow in the outer PPHE channel were performed and pressure drop, heat transfer coefficients, and overall thermo-hydraulic efficiency were determined. This paper introduces an inverse study method applied to an experimental dataset of infrared temperature acquisitions to determine the local convective heat transfer coefficient of the turbulent flow inside a duct with corrugated surfaces. The study focuses on six tubes with different corrugation profiles: helical, transversal, and cross-helical. Previous research has shown that transversal corrugation generates the highest improvement in heat transfer performance, while helical corrugations are the easiest to manufacture. Consequently, the single helix solution is the preferred one in heat exchangers adopted in the food industry. A merger solution between them is represented by the cross-helix profile. The estimation process proposed in this study employs the external surface temperature of the tube, acquired with an infrared thermal camera, as starting data for the inverse heat conduction problem inside the pipe wall region. One of the effective methods for energy conservation and emission reduction in coal mines is to utilize waste heat recovery technology to recover mine return air waste heat. The gravity heat pipe is widely used in mine return air waste heat recovery due to its sustainable and economic advantages, but its heat transfer is a complex process influenced by multiple parameters. A single-tube heat transfer resistance model and a heat transfer calculation model based on enthalpy difference were established for the heat exchange tubes. Four typical application cases of a low flow rate and a low number of tube rows were selected, and their heat transfer characteristics were tested onsite and analyzed. It was found that there were problems such as a low overall heat transfer efficiency, a low fresh air outlet temperature, and a risk of icing in the final tube section. The effects of the gravity heat pipe parameters on the heat transfer performance were studied, such as the tube outer diameter, tube spacing, and the finned tube outer diameter. It was found that the air-resistant force of the heat exchanger increased with the increase of the tube spacing and the finned tube outer diameter, the heat transfer resistance increased with the increase of the tube spacing and the decrease of the finned tube outer diameter, and the heat transfer coefficient first increased and then decreased with the increase of the tube outer diameter. A configuration improvement scheme with a high flow rate and a high number of tube rows is proposed here. Taking Case 2 as an example, the temperature distribution of the heat tube before and after improvement is compared and analyzed. The results show that the heat transfer performance of the heat exchange system significantly improved. Without increasing the air resistance of the heat tube, the temperature of the return air outlet after improvement was reduced to 1.1 °C, 4.1 °C lower than that before improvement, further recovering the waste heat of the mine return air. The temperature of the condensate water film was greater than 0.5 °C, avoiding the icing problem of the condensate tube section, the fresh air outlet temperature reached 5.2 °C, an increase of 7.8 °C compared to that before improvement, and the overall heat transfer efficiency increased from 56.7% to 66%. A Printed Circuit Heat Exchanger (PCHE) is a compact heat exchanger with high temperature and pressure resistance and is considered one of the best choices for the recuperators in the Supercritical Carbon dioxide (S-CO2) Brayton cycle. The flow and heat transfer performance of sinusoidal channel PCHE were analyzed and a second-order regression model was established based on the response surface method to improve the performance of the continuous channel PCHE. It was found that reducing the channel diameter, increasing the channel amplitude, and reducing the channel pitch can increase the average value of the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop per unit length. Moreover, sensitivity coefficient analysis was used to investigate the influence of various structural parameters on flow performance, heat transfer performance, and comprehensive performance. In addition, the structure of the sinusoidal channel PCHE was optimized using a multi-objective genetic algorithm, and three sets of Pareto optimal solutions were obtained. The corresponding optimal channel diameter D, channel amplitude A, and channel pitch Lp were in the range of 1.0–1.7 mm, 2.4–3.0 mm, and 15.1–17.0 mm, respectively, which can provide theoretical basis for the design of PCHE. Adsorption energy storage is a promising resource-saving technology that allows the rational use of alternative heat sources. One of the most important parts of the adsorption heat accumulator is the adsorber heat exchanger. The parameters of heat transfer in this unit determine how fast heat from an alternative energy source, such as the Sun, will be stored. For the design of adsorption heat accumulators, plate fin heat exchangers are mainly used. In this paper, the procedure for the estimation of the global heat transfer coefficient for the adsorber heat exchanger depending on its geometry is considered. The heat transfer coefficient for a LiCl/SiO2 sorbent flat layer under conditions of heat storage stage was measured. Based on these data, the global heat transfer coefficients for a number of industrial heat exchangers were theoretically estimated and experimentally measured for the adsorption cycle of daily heat storage. It was shown that theoretically obtained values are in good agreement with the values of the global heat transfer coefficients measured experimentally. Thus, the considered technique makes it possible to determine the most promising geometry of the plate fin heat exchanger for a given adsorption heat storage cycle without complicated experiments. Amidst the background of "double carbon", energy saving and emission reduction is a popular direction in the current refrigeration industry. Therefore, the research on the boiling heat transfer of gas–liquid two-phase flow is helpful to strengthen the heat transfer and design a more efficient heat exchanger. In this paper, a research method combining numerical simulation and experimental verification is adopted. Firstly, an experimental platform used for the subcooled flow boiling of refrigerant in casing tubes is introduced and experiments are carried out to obtain experimental data, which provides a theoretical basis for the development of numerical simulation and verifies the feasibility of numerical simulation. A numerical model of subcooled flow boiling in R22 was established and the grid independence test was carried out. Based on the simulation results, three factors affecting the boiling heat transfer of R22 are analyzed: First, the boiling heat transfer coefficient of R22 increases with the increase of the mass flow rate of R22, but the increase decreases when the mass flow rate increases from 0.018 kg/s to 0.020 kg/s. Second, the boiling heat transfer coefficient of R22 increases significantly with the increase of hot water flow rate. Third, the influence of R22 subcooling on boiling heat transfer is more complex. When the subcooling is 5 °C and 1 °C, heat transfer can be enhanced; high subcooling at 5 °C can enhance convective heat transfer and low subcooling at 1 °C can accelerate the arrival of saturated boiling. In this paper, three kinds of bubble behaviors affecting heat transfer in supercooled flow boiling, including sliding, polymerization, and bounce are also studied, which provides a basis for further research on heat transfer mechanism of supercooled flow boiling. An experimental study was performed that compared tube side condensation heat transfer characteristics of enhanced tubes (hydrophobic surface tubes (HYD), herringbone micro fin tube (HB), and a composite hydrophobic/herringbone (micro fin) tube (HYD/HB)) to the performance of a smooth tube (ST). The condensation heat transfer coefficient (HTC) was calculated from data that were recorded for smooth and enhanced tubes that had an outer diameter (OD) of 12.7 mm. Data were collected (as a function of mass flow rate) using a couple of refrigerants (R410A and R32), for saturated temperatures of 35 °C and 45 °C, with vapor qualities that ranged from 0.8 to 0.2. Several previously reported smooth tube HTC models were used to calculate values that could be compared to experimentally obtained HTC values. The correlation model that demonstrated the best accuracy (for the conditions considered) was then modified for use with the enhanced tubes from this study. Results from the modified correlation show differences with experimental values that ranged from −10% to +17%; the new modified correlation demonstrates high prediction accuracy. An accurate correlation allows the evaluation of enhanced heat transfer tubes for use in high-efficiency heat exchanger systems. Spiral wound tube heat exchanger (SWHE) was confirmed as the core equipment of natural gas liquefaction (LNG). However, there was rare experimental research on large-scale SWHE for LNG, and the theory of heat transfer is not perfect. To investigate the tube-side flow and heat transfer characteristics in spiral tubes, an experimental system was proposed. To ensure the accuracy of the experimental data, the heat transfer coefficients of liquid propane under different conditions were measured, and the data acquired through the experiment were compared with two classical heat transfer correlation (Dittus–Boelter and Geielinski) under the identical working conditions. The applicability of the existing correlation was analyzed using the experimental data, and a novel heat transfer correlation was developed. As indicated by the results, the deviation between the experimental system and the classical correlation under the identical working condition was lower than ±10%. One challenge for the design and analysis of hybrid electric aircraft configurations is an increased demand in the rejection of excess waste heat. A wing surface heat exchanger concept, which is explored as part of the IMOTHEP project, foresees transferring heat from the propulsive electrical components to the wing surface of the aircraft. Here, heat is mainly dissipated and transported by forced convection. The present study focuses on the analysis of the impact of heat rejection via the wing surface on the wing's heat transfer and aerodynamic efficiency characteristics. For this purpose, RANS CFD studies of 2D airfoils and a 3D wing propeller geometry of a regional turboprop configuration in representative flight conditions (take off, cruise, and taxi in) are carried out. For each condition, the influence of defining parameters, such as altitude, freestream velocity, angle of attack, surface temperature, and propeller thrust is explored. It is shown that, when increasing the wing surface temperature compared against the freestream temperature, the aerodynamic efficiency of the wing deteriorates for all flight conditions. In reference cruise conditions for example, the lift-to-drag ratio decreases by 4%, while the average heat transfer coefficient is reduced by almost 20% when increasing the surface temperature by 300 K. The novelty-designed adaptive heat exchanger (AHE) for heat dissipation from the hydraulic system to ambient air has been experimentally investigated. The heated hydraulic oil circulated in rubber hydraulic pipes as working fluid. The heat flow for AHE mounted in the hydraulic circuit was compared with the condition without the AHE. In addition, the contact surfaces of the AHE were coated with a copper-based thermal conductive paste for heat transfer enhancement research. The installation of the AHE in the hydraulic system caused an increase in heat flow by an average of 19.79% compared to the system without AHE, at an oil flow rate of 0.043 kg/s. The AHE with the copper-based thermal conductive paste achieved higher heat flow by an average of 24.93% and 20.49% compared to the circuit without AHE and with AHE, respectively. The installation of the AHE, and AHE with thermal conductive paste, into the hydraulic circuit caused an increase in differences of surface temperatures up to 8.1 °C and 8.3 °C compared to the hydraulic system without AHE. The hydraulic system with AHE achieved 1.3 times and 2.2 times higher the overall heat transfer coefficient compared to the AHE with thermal conductive paste and the system without AHE, respectively. The finned AHE is usable for additional cooling of working fluid (oil, coolant, fuel) in various machines and equipment without the necessity of interrupting the pipelines. The efficiency of heat transfer in air-cooled heat exchangers of various industrial facilities depends on the flow rate of the coolant, its inlet temperature and ambient temperature. These parameters are transient and depend both on the features of the technological process and on weather conditions. One option for a compact design of heat exchangers is the use of close-packed coils with a small bending radius. In this case, heat transfer in the complex geometry of the annular space cannot be described by simple one-dimensional dependencies. To solve this problem, it is necessary to consider the three-dimensional spatial structure of the heat exchange surface. Since the size of the grid elements will be several orders of magnitude less than the size of the facility, the size of the computational grids for CFD modeling full-scale heat exchangers will be billions of finite volumes, and even on powerful supercomputers, the solution time will be about a month. One way to reduce computational costs is to use reduced order models, in which the computational domain is not modeled directly; instead, simplified models, such as a porous medium model, are used to describe it. However, such models require additional closing relations and coefficients that characterize the actual channel geometry. This paper presents a technique for creating a digital twin of a heat exchanger with small bend radius coils based on a porous medium model. The values of heat transfer coefficients and hydraulic resistance depend on the speed of air movement in the space between the coils. The calculated value of the thermal power obtained using the strengthened model was 529 kW, which corresponds to the passport data of 500 kW, with less than 6% deviation for the heat exchanger under study. This confirms the correctness of the calculation with accepted simplifications. The calculation time in this case was only a few minutes when using a personal computer. The developed numerical model allows for the resolution of performance characteristics based on the temperature of the cooled medium at the inlet, air temperature, and fan speed. Analyzing the different modes of turning on the cooling fans made it possible to determine the values of the thermal power when turning off the fans or reducing the number of revolutions. The current work aims to offer a specific overview of the homogeneous dispersions of 2D nanomaterials in heat transfer base fluids—so-called 2D nanofluids. This data compilation emerged from the critical overview of the findings of the published scientific articles regarding 2D nanofluids. The applicability of such fluids as promising alternatives to the conventional heat transfer and thermal energy storage fluids is comprehensively investigated. These are fluids that simultaneously possess superior thermophysical properties and can be processed according to innovative environmentally friendly methods and techniques. Furthermore, their very reduced dimensions are suitable for the decrease in the size of thermal management systems, and the devices have attracted a lot of attention from researchers in different fields. Some examples of 2D nanofluids are those which incorporate graphene, graphene oxide, hexagonal boron nitride, molybdenum disulfide nanoparticles, and hybrid formulations. Although the published results are not always consistent, it was found that this type of nanofluid can improve the thermal conductivity of traditional base fluids by more than 150%, achieving values of approximately 6500 W·m−1·K−1 and interface thermal conductance above 50 MW·m−2·K−1. Such beneficial features permit the attainment of increments above 60% in the overall efficiency of photovoltaic/thermal solar systems, a 70% reduction in the entropy generation in parabolic trough collectors and increases of approximately 200% in the convective heat transfer coefficient in heat exchangers and heat pipes. These findings identify those fluids as suitable heat transfer and thermal storage media. The current work intends to partially suppress the literature gap by gathering detailed information on 2D nanofluids in a single study. The thermophysical properties of 2D nanofluids and not of their traditional counterparts, as it is usually encountered in the literature, and the extended detailed sections dedicated to the potential applications of 2D nanofluids are features that may set this research apart from previously published works. Additionally, a major part of the included literature references consider exclusively 2D nanomaterials and the corresponding nanofluids, which also constitutes a major gathering of specific data regarding these types of materials. The heat exchanger is the key component of an industrial drying system. The present work introduced a novel tube heat exchanger into a corn drying system. To fully understand the heat exchange process and optimize the heat exchange performance of the heat exchanger, numerical simulation, exergy analysis and economic analysis methodologies were adopted to analyze the comprehensive performance of the heat exchanger. The fluid dynamics as well as the exergy performance of the heat exchanger under different flue gas velocities (3, 5 and 7m/s) and different ambient air relative humidities (80%, 85% and 90%) were investigated. The results showed that there are two strong turbulences causing the huge pressure drop at the last two stages of the flue gas duct, while there are two insufficient heat exchange areas on both sides of the heat exchanger; thus, the corresponding improvement recommendations were proposed in the present work. The values of the Re and N u were found to vary in the range of 1256.275–2210.554 and 21.337–32.415, respectively. The average heat transfer coefficients were ascertained to be above 8.274 kW·m−2·K−1, while the pressure drop of the ambient air was ascertained to be under 16.138 Pa. Moreover, the exergy analysis revealed that the heat exchanger experiences sustainable development ( S I < 2), and the exergy efficiency is above 11.461%. The heating of oil and oil products is widely used to reduce energy losses during transportation. An approach is developed to determine the effective length of the heat exchanger and the temperature of the cold coolant (oil) at its outlet in the case of a strong dependence of oil viscosity on temperature. Oil from the Uzen field (Kazakhstan) is considered as a heated coolant, and water is considered as a heating component. The method of the log–mean temperature difference, modified for the case of variable viscosity, and the methods of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) are used for calculations. The results of the numerical calculations are compared with the data obtained on the basis of a theoretical approach at a constant viscosity. When using a theoretical approach with a constant or variable viscosity, the heat transfer coefficients to cold and hot coolants are found using criterion dependencies. The Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) and a turbulence model that takes into account the laminar–turbulent transition are applied. In the case of variable oil viscosity, a transition from the laminar flow regime to the turbulent one is manifested, which has a significant effect on the effective length of the heat exchanger. The goal of this research is to convey an outlook of heat transfer and friction factor in an exper-imental study with a double-pipe heat exchanger (DPHE). In process heat transformation (HT) and friction factor(f) in a DPHE counter-flow with a twisted tape (TT) arrangement by dimple inserts. The grooves were a kind of concavity that enhanced thermal transfer while only slightly degrading pressure. Heat transmission (HT) and friction factor(f) were investigated employing dimples with twisting tape of varying diameters along with uniform diameter (D) to the diameter-to-depth ratio (D/H). The impact of using twisted tape with various dimpled diameters D = 2, 4, and 6 mm at a uniform (D/H) = 1.5, 3 and 4.5 on heat transmission and friction factor properties were discussed. The dimple diameter (D) was directly connected to the friction coefficient (f), hence the highest value of friction factor was established at (D) = 6 mm. Furthermore, the best performance of Nusselt number (Nu) and performance evaluation criteria (PEC) was determined at a diameter of 4 mm. As a result, dimpled twisted tape additions are an excellent and cost-effective approach to improve heat transformation in heat exchangers. With fluid as a water, lower parameters, and higher Reynolds number (Re) resulted in better thermal conditions. Thermal performance and friction factor(f) correlations were developed with regard to the ge-ometry of the dimple diameter (D), its ratio (D/H), 'Re', and a good correspondence with the experimental data was achieved. The novel geometry caused a smaller pressure drop despite its higher convection heat transfer coefficient. This review study examines flow boiling heat transfer in micro-fin tubes using mixed and pure refrigerants with zero ozone-depleting potential (ODP) and minimal global warming potential (GWP). This investigation focuses on the extraordinary relationship between heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) and vapor quality. Since the introduction of micro-fin heat exchanger tubes over 30 years ago, refrigerant-based cooling has improved significantly. Air conditioning and refrigeration companies are replacing widely used refrigerants, with substantial global warming impacts. When space, weight, or efficiency are limited, micro-fin heat exchangers with improved dependability are preferred. This review article discusses flow boiling concepts. The researchers used several refrigerants under different testing conditions and with varying micro-fin tube parameters. Micro-fin tubes are promising for improved heat transfer techniques. This tube increases the heat transfer area, fluid disturbance, flow speed, and direction owing to centrifugal force and HTC. As the focus shifts to improving heat transfer, pressure drop, mean vapor quality, and practical devices, this subject will grow more intriguing. A radical shift will reduce equipment size for certain traditional heat transfer systems and bring new products using micro-scale technologies. This suggested review effort helps comprehend saturation flow boiling through micro-fin tubes and find the right correlation for a given application. In this work, four radiators with different core geometries were tested using a wind tunnel. The values of the global heat transfer coefficient (UA = 5 ÷ 65 W/K) were measured depending on the flow of air and water. The obtained UA values correlate well with the data of sorption experiments described in the literature. The found correlations between the Nusselt and Reynolds numbers made it possible to propose an algorithm for ranging commercial air radiators for the use in adsorption heat transformers. It is shown that the use of a wind tunnel can serve as an effective tool for express assessment of the prospects of using air radiators for adsorption heat conversion without destroying radiators or their direct testing in a complex adsorption installation requiring vacuum maintenance. Even though two-phase heat transfer of refrigerants in minichannel heat sinks has been studied extensively, there is still a demand for improvements in overall thermal performance of miniature heat transfer exchangers. Experimental investigation and sophisticated heat transfer calculations with respect to heat transfer devices are still needed. In this work, a time-dependent experimental study of subcooled boiling was carried out for FC-72 flow in a heat sink, comprising of five asymmetrically heated minichannels. The heater surface temperature was continuously monitored by an infrared camera. The boiling heat transfer characteristics were investigated and the effect of the mass flow rate on the heat transfer coefficient was studied. In order to solve the heat transfer problem related to time-dependent flow boiling, two numerical methods, based on the FEM were applied, and based on the Trefftz functions (FEMT) and using the ADINA program. The results achieved with these two calculation methods were explored with an emphasis on the impact of the mass flow rate (range from 5 to 55 kg/h) on the resulting heat transfer coefficient. It was found that, with increasing mass flow, the heat transfer coefficient increased. Industrial liquid/solid fluidized bed heat exchangers are commonly used with particle recycling systems to allow an increased superficial velocity and higher heat transfer rates. Here, experimental results are reported on a novel helical flow channel geometry for liquid/solid fluidized beds which allow higher heat transfer rates and reduced complexity by operating below the particle transport fluid velocity. This eliminates the complexity of particle recycle systems whilst still delivering a compact heat exchanger. The qualitative character of the fluidization was studied for a range of particle types and sizes under several inclinations of the helices and various hydraulic diameters. The best fluidization combinations were further studied to obtain heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops. Improvements over the heat exchange from a plain concentric tube in an annulus were obtained to the following degree: vertical fluidized bed, 27%; helical baffles, 34 to 54%; and fluidized bed with helical baffles, 69 to 89%. This study focuses on developing and optimizing of a microchannel gas cooler model for evaluating the performance of a transcritical CO2 mobile air-conditioning system. A simulation model is developed with the aid of MATLAB R2022a. A segment-by-segment modeling approach is utilized by applying the effectiveness-NTU method. State-of-the-art heat transfer and pressure drop correlations are used to obtain air and refrigerant side heat transfer coefficients and friction factors. The developed model is validated through a wide range of available experimental data and is able to predict a gas cooler capacity and pressure drop within an acceptable range of accuracy. The average errors for a gas cooler capacity and pressure drop are 3.79% and 10.24%, respectively. Furthermore, a parametric optimization method is applied to obtain optimal microchannel heat exchanger dimensions, including the number of tubes, microchannel ports, and passes. Different combinations were selected within the practical range to obtain optimal dimensions while keeping the total core volume constant. The simultaneous effect of the number of tubes, the number of ports in each tube, and the number of passes is determined. The objective of the current optimization technique is to minimize the pressure drop for the specific design capacity under different operating conditions without changing the overall volume of the gas cooler. The average pressure drop reduction for the optimal geometry as compared with the baseline geometry under all operating conditions is about 15%. The results from this study can be used to select an optimal geometric design for the required design capacity with a minimal pressure drop without the need for expensive prototype development and testing. Because of their compact structure, ease of processing and higher heat transfer coefficient, curved-tube heat exchangers are widely applied in various industry applications, such as nuclear power systems, solar-powered engineering, aircraft engine cooling systems and refrigeration and cryogenic systems. Accurate knowledge about the heat transfer characteristics of the supercritical fluids in the tube is critical to the design and optimization of a curved-tube heat exchanger. The available literature indicates that the flow of supercritical fluids flowing in curved tubes affected by the dual effects of the buoyancy force and centrifugal force is more complex compared to straight tubes. Therefore, to obtain insight into their unique characteristics and further research progress, this paper presents a comprehensive review of available experimental and numerical research works on fluids at supercritical pressure flowing in curved tubes. Overall, the secondary flow caused by the curvature enhances the heat transfer and delays the heat transfer deterioration, but it also causes a non-uniform heat transfer distribution along the circumferential direction, and the strengthening performance of the curved tube is damaged. Compared with the more mature theories regarding straight tubes, the flow structure, the coupling mechanism of buoyancy and centrifugal force, and the general heat transfer correlation of supercritical fluids in a curved tube still urgently need to be further studied. Most importantly, studies on the suppression of heat transfer oscillations and heat transfer inhomogeneities specific to curved tubes are scarce. Under active icing conditions, the heat transfer performance of the CPHE has a significant impact on the system's efficiency and energy consumption. Using the enthalpy-porosity method for describing the solidification process of liquids, the simulation and analysis of the effects of different parameter changes on the CPHE heat transfer performance were conducted to clarify the effects of the changes in the intermediary side inlet water temperature, intermediate water flow rate, and cold water flow rate on the heat transfer process in the CPHE. According to our results, changing the intermediary inlet water temperature has a greater impact on the heat transfer process in the cold-water phase-change heat exchangers. For every decrease of 0.5 °C in the intermediary side inlet water temperature, the average heat transfer coefficient increases by approximately 50 W/m2-K. Changes in the intermediary water flow rate affect the cold water phase-change heat exchanger's heat transfer process. By increasing the intermediary water flow rate, the average heat transfer coefficient of a cold water phase-change heat exchanger can be improved, but the growth decreases, and the maximum flow rate of the intermediary water should not exceed 0.5 m per second. A change in the cold water flow rate in the cold water phase-change heat exchanger's heat transfer process has a small impact on the cold water flow rate, increasing by 0.02 m/s each, with the average heat transfer coefficient increasing by 20 W/m2-K. This paper presents a mathematical model of heat pump exchangers and their thermal interaction with a fan for an air dryer. The calculation algorithm developed for the finned heat exchangers is based on the ε-NTU method, allowing the determination of air side and refrigerant side heat transfer coefficients, evaporator and condenser heat capacity and air parameters at the dehumidifier outlet with known exchanger geometries, initial air parameters and mass flow rate. The model was verified on an industrial dehumidifier test bench. This enabled the heat transfer coefficients for the exchanger to be calculated as a function of the speed and, therefore, the power of the fan's drive motor. An increase in fan performance on the one hand results in an increase in the heat transfer rate, but, on the other hand, it causes an increase in the total energy consumption of the motor. Thus, while it causes an increase in drying capacity, it also causes an increase in the energy consumption of the dehumidifier. In order to optimise the unit in terms of energy consumption, it is therefore necessary to determine a function that relates the amount of heat exchanged to the efficiency of the fan. In typical turbulent flow problems, detailed heat transfer coefficient (h) maps obtained through short-duration experiments are based on inverse heat transfer methods that take the wall temperatures measured via liquid crystals or infrared thermography as input, and an error minimization routine is adopted to determine the best value of h that satisfies the wall temperature temporal evolution under a certain change in fluid temperature. A common practice involves modeling the solid as a one-dimensional semi-infinite medium by selecting the solid material that has low thermal conductivity and low thermal diffusivity. However, in certain flow scenarios, the neglection of the lateral heat diffusion may lead to significant errors in the deduced h values. It is imperative to understand the reasons behind large errors that may be incurred by using the 1D heat conduction assumption in order to accurately determine high-resolution h maps for better heat exchanger designs in a wide range of thermal management applications. This paper presents a computational heat transfer study on different jet impingement scenarios to demonstrate the errors incurred in the determination of h when calculated under the assumption of one-dimensional (1-d) heat conduction into a solid. To this end, three different cases are studied: (a) single jet, (b) array jet (theoretical distribution), (c) array jet (experimental distribution), along with three different mainstream temperature evolution profiles representing step change, moderately fast transient and slow transient nature of flow driving the heat transfer in the solid. A known distribution of heat transfer coefficient ("true h") for each of the three cases is considered, and three-dimensional transient heat diffusion equations were solved to populate temperatures of each node in the solid at every time step. It is found that stagnation zones' h1d calculations were lower than the "true h" while the low heat transfer zones exhibited significantly higher h1d compared to the "true h". For the array jet (experimental distribution) case, it was observed that errors can be as high as 10% in certain low heat transfer zones. Different data reduction procedures, configurations, and conditions explored in this study indicate that a suitable balance can be achieved if shorter time durations in transient experiments are used as a reference for tracking in h1d calculations to keep the deviations from the "true h" low. The paper is concerned with water vapor condensation on vertical pipes. The vertical position of pipes in a condenser is not discussed very often. Its application has a number of particularities in terms of the numerical determination of heat transfer. In the first stage of this paper, the authors focus on the experimental identification of heat transfer during vapor condensation on vertical pipes with a diameter of 14.0 × 1.0 mm. The pipes are placed in a narrow channel and the steam flows around them in a perpendicular direction. Two channel widths were tested, i.e., 20.0 and 24.0 mm. In the second stage, numerical modelling (CFD) is used for a detailed identification of the vapor velocity fields near the pipes. In the third stage, the results of the experimental measurements and numerical modelling are compared with data published by various authors. There are studies in the literature dealing with axial flow around vertical pipes; however, the associated results are based on conditions which are distinct from those applied in our study. Plate heat exchangers (PHE) are used for a wide range of applications, thus utilizing new and unique heat sources is of crucial importance. R744 has a low critical temperature, which makes its thermophysical properties variation smoother than other supercritical fluids. As a result, it can be used as a reliable hot stream for PHE, particularly at high temperatures. The local design approach was constructed via MATLAB integrated with the NIST database for real gases. Recently produced HFOs (R1234yf, R1234ze(E), R1234ze(Z), and R1233zd(E)) were utilized as cold fluids flowing through three phases: Liquid-phase, two-phase, and gas-phase. A two-step study was performed to examine the following parameters: Heat transfer coefficients, pressure drop, and effectiveness. In the first step, these parameters were analyzed with a variable number of plates to determine a suitable number for the next step. Then, the effects of hot stream pressure and cold stream superheating difference were investigated with variable cold channel mass fluxes. For the first step, the results showed insignificant differences in the investigated parameters for the number of plates higher than 40. Meanwhile, the second step showed that increasing the hot stream pressure from 10 to 12 MPa enhanced the two-phase convection coefficients by 17%, 23%, 75%, and 50% for R1234yf, R1234ze(E), R1234ze(Z), and R1233zd(E), respectively. In contrast, increasing the cold stream superheating temperature difference from 5 K to 20 reduced the two-phase convection coefficients by 14%, 16%, 53%, and 26% for R1234yf, R1234ze(E), R1234ze(Z), and R1233zd(E), respectively. A gas cooler is one of the important parts of a carbon dioxide (CO2) heat pump water heater, and it must meet the needs of not only pressurization but also heat transfer. It is important to study gas coolers. In this paper, a heat exchanger with a spiral channel is studied. ANSYS CFX software was used to analyze the flow and heat transfer characteristics of the heat exchanger (single-plate model). The influences of the cooling pressure of CO2, the mass flux of CO2, the mass flux of water and the channel radius of CO2 are discussed. In this paper, the results show that the cooling pressure of CO2, the mass flux of CO2 and the channel radius of CO2 all have a large influence on the local heat transfer coefficient: with an increase in the cooling pressure of CO2, the peak value of the heat transfer coefficient of CO2 decreases and the average heat transfer coefficient decreases; with an increase in the mass flux of CO2, the peak value of the heat transfer coefficient of CO2 increases and the average heat transfer coefficient increases; and with a decrease in the channel radius of CO2, the peak value of the heat transfer coefficient of CO2 increases. The water mass flux has only a slight effect on heat transfer, and the lower cooling pressure of CO2 corresponds to a higher peak heat transfer coefficient, which can reach 27.5 kW∙m−2∙K−1 at 9 MPa. Heat transfer and frictional performance at the air-side is predominant for the application and optimization of finned tube heat exchangers. For aerospace engineering, the heat exchanger operates under negative pressure, whereas the general prediction models of convective heat transfer coefficient and pressure penalty for this scenario are rarely reported. In the current study, a numerical model is developed to determine the air-side heat transfer and frictional performance. The influence of air pressure (absolute pressure) is discussed in detail, and the entropy generation considering the effect of heat transfer and pressure drop are analyzed. Furthermore, prediction models of air-side thermal and frictional factors are also developed. The results indicate that both the convective heat transfer coefficient and pressure penalty decrease significantly with decreasing air pressure, and the air-side heat transfer coefficient is decreased by 64.6~73.3% at an air pressure of 25 kPa compared with normal environment pressure. The entropy generation by temperature difference accounts for the highest proportion of the total entropy generation. The prediction correlations of Colburn j-factor and friction factor f show satisfactory accuracy with the absolute mean deviations of 7.48% and 9.42%, respectively. Regenerative cooling is critical for the thermal protection of hypersonic propulsion systems, wherein the flow and heat transfer characteristics of the hydrocarbon fuel in the cooling channel are crucial. Restricted by measurement, the distribution of the fuel temperature inside the cooling channel cannot be directly detected. As a result, the measurement of the convective heat transfer coefficient is more an overall heat transfer coefficient. Furthermore, the existing overall heat transfer coefficient calculation method is derived without considering the flow state of the hydrocarbon fuel in the cooling channel, which should be taken into consideration. Therefore, a modified calculation method of the overall heat transfer coefficient is proposed in this study. The results of the characteristics of the turbulence-related parameters show that the overall heat transfer coefficient is mainly determined by the effective thermal conductivity and surface convective heat transfer coefficient, which are related to the fuel temperature and flow state. Furthermore, the existing method might overestimate the overall heat transfer coefficient. In numerous turbomachinery applications, e.g., in aero-engines with regenerators for improving specific fuel consumption (SFC), heat exchangers with low-pressure loss are required. Pil low-plate heat exchangers (PPHE) are a novel exchanger type and promising candidates for high-speed flow applications due to their smooth profiles avoiding blunt obstacles in the flow path. This work deals with the overall system behavior and gas dynamics of pillow-plate channels. A pillow-plate channel was placed in the test section of a blow-down wind tunnel working with dry air, and compressible flow phenomena were investigated utilizing conventional and focusing schlieren optics; furthermore, static and total pressure measurements were performed. The experiments supported the assumption that the system behavior can be described through a Fanno–Rayleigh flow model. Since only wavy walls with smooth profiles were involved, linearized gas dynamics was able to cover important flow features within the channel. The effects of the wavy wall structures on pressure drop and Mach number distribution within the flow path were investigated, and a good qualitative agreement with theoretical and numerical predictions was found. The present analysis demonstrates that pressure losses in pillow-plate heat exchangers are rather low, although their strong turbulent mixing enables high convective heat transfer coefficients. In some engineering applications, it is very desirable that the heat exchanger is as light as possible while maintaining the heat transfer rate at an acceptable level. In this context, the possibility of reducing the weight of the heat exchanger with the star-shaped fins by cutting off the thermally least efficient part of the fin was investigated. For this purpose, the rear part of the fins was trimmed to Ø28, Ø31 and Ø34 mm. Numerical analysis was used to determine the influence of each variant on the flow characteristics in the air–water heat exchanger and on heat transfer for the range of 2300 < Re < 16,000. The best results were obtained by trimming the rear part of the fin to Ø28 mm. With a 5.53% reduction in fin weight, heat transfer can be increased by up to 8.12% compared to the star-shaped fins without trimming. The pressure drop can be reduced by up to 0.92%. The trimmed fins were also compared with perforated star-shaped fins (perforation Ø2). At approximately the same weight, the trimmed fins increase the heat transfer coefficient by up to 5.75% with a reduction in pressure drop of up to 0.76% compared to the perforated fins. The aim of this work is to numerically analyse fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics in a crossflow air-to-water fin-and-tube heat exchanger (FTHEX) by implementing two configurations of delta-winglet type vortex generators at the air side: delta-winglet upstream (DWU) and delta-winglet downstream (DWD). The vortex generators are mounted on a fin surface and deployed in a "common flow up" orientation. The effects of attack angles of 15°, 30° and 45° on air-side heat transfer and pressure drop were examined. Since the implementation of the full-size model would involve large numerical resources, the computational domain is simplified by considering a small segment in the direction of water flow. The fully developed temperature and velocity boundary conditions were set at the water inlets. To validate the defined mathematical model and numerical procedure, measurements have been performed on a plain FTHEX. The air side Reynolds number, based on hydraulic diameter, was in the range of 176 ≤ ReDh ≤ 400 and water side Reynolds number, based on inner tube diameter, was constant Redi = 17,065. The results have shown that the highest increase in the Colburn factor j (by 11–27%) and reduction in the air-side thermal resistance fraction (from 78.2–76.9% for ReDh = 176 to 76–72.4% for ReDh = 400) is achieved by using the DWD configuration with attack angle 45°. In addition, the overall heat transfer coefficient is improved by up to 15.7%. The DWD configuration with the attack angle 30° provides the greatest improvement in the heat transfer to pressure loss ratio, 5.2–15.4% over the range of ReDhstudied. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As electrical devices become smaller, it is essential to maintain operating temperature for safety and durability. Therefore, there are efforts to improve heat transfer performance under various conditions, such as using extended surfaces and nanofluids. Among them, cooling methods using ferrofluid are drawing the attention of many researchers. This fluid can control the movement of the fluid in magnetic fields. In this study, the heat transfer performance of a fin-tube heat exchanger, using ferrofluid as a coolant, was analyzed when external magnetic fields were applied. Permanent magnets were placed outside the heat exchanger. When the magnetic fields were applied, a change in the thermal boundary layer was observed. It also formed vortexes, which affected the formation of flow patterns. The vortex causes energy exchanges in the flow field, activating thermal diffusion and improving heat transfer. A numerical analysis was used to observe the cooling performance of heat exchangers, as the strength and number of the external magnetic fields were varying. VGs (vortex generators) were also installed to create vortex fields. A convective heat transfer coefficient was calculated to determine the heat transfer rate. The wet ball milling method was used and a dispersant (gum Arabic) was added to prepare various concentrations (0.05 and 0.2 wt%) of carbon-based nanofluids (CBNFs) by a two-step synthesis method as working fluids for heat exchange. CBNFs were actually used in a tube heat exchanger (THE) for heat transfer performance experiments. The heat transfer performance of water and CBNFs was estimated under different heating powers and flow rates of working fluid. The pump power consumption (Ppe) of 0.05 wt% CBNF was found to be similar to that of water, but the Ppe of 0.2 wt% CBNF was higher than that of water. The convective heat transfer coefficient (HTC) of CBNF in the was higher than that of water, and the HTC of 0.05 wt% and 0.2 wt% CBNF was optimal at the heating power of 120 W and 80 W, respectively. The average HTC of 0.05 wt% CBNFs at 120 W heating power was about 3.33% higher than that of water, while that of 0.2 wt% CBNFs at 80 W heating power was about 4.52% higher than that of water. This paper aims to numerically investigate the thermal enhancement of a latent thermal energy storage component with mini-channels as air passages. The investigated channels in two sizes of internal air passages (channel-1 with dh = 1.6 mm and channel-2 with dh = 2.3 mm) are oriented vertically in a cuboid of 0.15 × 0.15 × 0.1 m3 with RT22 as the PCM located in the shell. The phase change is simulated with a fixed inlet temperature of air, using ANSYS Fluent 19.5, with a varying number of channels and a ranging air flow rate entering the component. The results show that the phase change power of the LTES improves with by increasing the number of channels at the cost of a decrease in the storage capacity. Given a constant air flow rate, the increase in the heat transfer surface area of the increased number of channels dominates the heat transfer coefficient, thus increasing the mean heat transfer rate (UA). A comparison of the channels shows that the thermal performance depends largely on the area to volume ratio of the channels. The channel type two (channel-2) with a slightly higher area to volume ratio has a slightly higher charging/discharging power, as compared to channel type one (channel-1), at a similar PCM packing factor. Adding fins to channel-2, doubling the surface area, improves the mean UA values by 15–31% for the studied cases. The variation in the total air flow rate from 7 to 24 L/s is found to have a considerable influence, reducing the melting time by 41–53% and increasing the mean UA values within melting by 19–52% for a packing factor range of 77.4–86.8%. With the increase in the air flow rate, channel type two is found to have considerably lower pressure drops than channel type one, which can be attributed to its higher internal hydraulic diameter, making it superior in terms of achieving a relatively similar charging/discharging power in exchange for significantly lower fan power. A ground source heat pump system is a highly efficient renewable heating, cooling, and ventilation system that utilizes the ground as a heat source or sink via ground heat exchangers. Energy pile is an energy geotechnical structure that couples a ground heat exchanger with a geotechnical structure, leading to low capital cost. The design of energy piles can be challengeable due to their complicated geometries and the requirement of mechanical load. This study focuses on the heat transfer across the concrete–soil interface of energy piles in urban areas. Case studies from two projects, the Lambeth College and Shell Centre projects, are presented and discussed. The back analysis of two energy pile cases illustrated that the heat transfer coefficient at the pile–soil interface can differ between the cooling mode and the heating mode. It can be concluded that the difference in the heat transfer coefficient is influenced by a number of factors such as soil properties, concrete (grout) properties, and the installation method. The curved geometry of a coiled flow inverter (CFI) promotes chaotic mixing through a combination of coils and bends. Besides the heat exchanger geometry, the heat transfer can be enhanced by improving the thermophysical properties of the working fluid. In this work, aqueous solutions of dispersed TiO2 nanometer-sized particles (i.e., nanofluids) were prepared and characterized, and their effects on heat transfer were experimentally investigated in a CFI heat exchanger inserted in a forced convective thermal loop. The physical and transport properties of the nanofluids were measured within the temperature and volume concentration domains. The convective heat transfer coefficients were obtained at Reynolds numbers (NRe) and TiO2 nanoparticle volume concentrations ranging from 1400 to 9500 and 0–1.5 v/v%, respectively. The Nusselt number (NNu) in the CFI containing 1.0 v/v% nanofluid was 41–52% higher than in the CFI containing pure base fluid (i.e., water), while the 1.5 v/v% nanofluid increased the NNu by 4–8% compared to water. Two new correlations to predict the NNu of TiO2–water nanofluids in the CFI at Reynolds numbers of 1400 ≤ NRe ≤ 9500 and nanoparticle volume concentrations ranges of 0.2–1.0 v/v% and 0.2–1.5 v/v% are proposed. The air-side thermal-hydraulic performance of multi-louvered aluminium fin heat exchangers is investigated. A systematic numerical study has been performed to analyze the air-sde thermal hydraulic characteristics over a wide range of Reynolds number i.e., from 30 to 500. Air-side heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop were calculated and validated over the mentioned band of Reynolds numbers. The critical Reynolds number was determined numerically; and also the variation of flow pattern along with the air-side heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop in a multi-louvered heat exchanger associated with Recri has been reported. Moreover, a parametric study of the multi-louvered aluminium fin heat exchangers was also performed for 36 heat exchanger configurations with the louver angles (19-31°); fin pitches (1.0, 1.2, 1.4 mm) and flow depths (16, 20, 24 mm); and the geometric configuration exhibiting the highest air-side heat transfer coefficient was reported.
