In recent years, with the development of geological prospecting from shallow ore to deep and hidden ore, the difficulty of prospecting is increasing day by day, so the application of computer technology and new methods of geological and mineral exploration is paid more and more attention. The mining and prediction of geological prospecting information based on deep learning have become the frontier field of earth science. However, as a deep artificial intelligence algorithm, deep learning still has many problems to be solved in the big data mining and prediction of geological prospecting, such as the small number of training samples of geological and mineral images, the difficulty of building deep learning network models, and the universal applicability of deep learning models. In this paper, the training samples and convolutional neural network models suitable for geochemical element data mining are constructed to solve the above problems, and the model is successfully applied to the prediction research of gold, silver, lead and zinc polymetallic metallogenic areas in South China. Taking the Pangxidong research area in the west of Guangdong Province as an example, this paper carries out prospecting target prediction research based on a 1:50000 stream sediment survey original data. Firstly, the support vector machine (SVM) model and statistical method were used to determine the ore-related geochemical element assemblage. Secondly, the experimental data of geochemical elements were augmented and a dataset was established. Finally, ResNet-50 neural network model is used for data training and prediction research. The experimental results show that the areas numbered 9, 29, 38, 40, 95, 111, 114, 124, 144 have great metallogenic potential, and this method would be a promising tool for metallogenic prediction. By applying the ResNet-50 neural network in metallogenic prediction, it can provide a new idea for the future exploration of mineral resources. In order to verify the generality of the research method in this paper, we conducted experimental tests on the geochemical dataset of B area, another deposit research area in South China. The results show that 100% of the prediction area obtained by using the proposed method covers the known ore deposit area. Landslides pose a constant threat to the lives and property of mountain people and may also cause geomorphological destruction such as soil and water loss, vegetation destruction, and land cover change. Landslide susceptibility assessment (LSA) is a key component of landslide risk evaluation. There are many related studies, but few analyses and comparisons of models for optimization. This paper aims to introduce the Tree-structured Parzen Estimator (TPE) algorithm for hyperparameter optimization of three typical neural network models for LSA in Shuicheng County, China, as an example, and to compare the differences of predictive ability among the models in order to achieve higher application performance. First, 17 influencing factors of landslide multiple data sources were selected for spatial prediction, hybrid ensemble oversampling and undersampling techniques were used to address the imbalanced sample and small sample size problem, and the samples were randomly divided into a training set and validation set. Second, deep neural network (DNN), recurrent neural network (RNN), and convolutional neural network (CNN) models were adopted to predict the regional landslides susceptibility, and the TPE algorithm was used to optimize the hyperparameters respectively to improve the assessment capacity. Finally, to compare the differences and optimization effects of these models, several objective measures were applied for validation. The results show that the high-susceptibility regions mostly distributed in bands along fault zones, where the lithology is mostly claystone, sandstone, and basalt. The DNN, RNN, and CNN models all perform well in LSA, especially the RNN model. The TPE optimization significantly improves the accuracy of the DNN and CNN (3.92% and 1.52%, respectively), but does not improve the performance of the RNN. In summary, our proposed RNN model and TPE-optimized DNN and CNN model have robust predictive capability for landslide susceptibility in the study area and can also be applied to other areas containing similar geological conditions. Simple Summary: Spinal metastases are a common occurrence, and many patients do not have a clear history of primary tumors when diagnosed with spinal metastases. Patients with cancer of unknown primary often undergo comprehensive and invasive diagnostic work-ups, which can be expensive and time-consuming. To narrow down the search for primary tumor sites in spinal metastases patients with cancer of unknown primary, an artificial intelligence model that can assess tumor origin on MRI may be beneficial. Our work builds upon the considerable interest in investigating the feasibility of using a ResNet-50 convolutional neural network model based on MRI in predicting primary tumor sites in spinal metastases. In this preliminary study, for the 5-class classification of spinal metastases originating from the lung, kidney, prostate, and mammary or thyroid glands, the AUC-ROC and top-1 accuracy of the ResNet-50 model were 0.77 and 52.97%, respectively. Therefore, we believe that the ResNet-50 CNN model for predicting primary tumor sites in spinal metastases using MRI has the potential to help prioritize examinations and treatments in cases of unknown primary for radiologists and oncologists. We aim to investigate the feasibility and evaluate the performance of a ResNet-50 convolutional neural network (CNN) based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in predicting primary tumor sites in spinal metastases. Conventional sequences (T1-weighted, T2-weighted, and fat-suppressed T2-weighted sequences) MRIs of spinal metastases patients confirmed by pathology from August 2006 to August 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were partitioned into non-overlapping sets of 90% for training and 10% for testing. A deep learning model using ResNet-50 CNN was trained to classify primary tumor sites. Top-1 accuracy, precision, sensitivity, area under the curve for the receiver-operating characteristic (AUC-ROC), and F1 score were considered as the evaluation metrics. A total of 295 spinal metastases patients (mean age ± standard deviation, 59.9 years ± 10.9; 154 men) were evaluated. Included metastases originated from lung cancer (n = 142), kidney cancer (n = 50), mammary cancer (n = 41), thyroid cancer (n = 34), and prostate cancer (n = 28). For 5-class classification, AUC-ROC and top-1 accuracy were 0.77 and 52.97%, respectively. Additionally, AUC-ROC for different sequence subsets ranged between 0.70 (for T2-weighted) and 0.74 (for fat-suppressed T2-weighted). How to acquire landslide disaster information quickly and accurately has become the focus and difficulty of disaster prevention and relief by remote sensing. Landslide disasters are generally featured by sudden occurrence, proposing high demand for emergency data acquisition. The low-altitude Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) remote sensing technology is widely applied to acquire landslide disaster data, due to its convenience, high efficiency, and ability to fly at low altitude under cloud. However, the spectrum information of UAV images is generally deficient and manual interpretation is difficult for meeting the need of quick acquisition of emergency data. Based on this, UAV images of high-occurrence areas of landslide disaster in Wenchuan County and Baoxing County in Sichuan Province, China were selected for research in the paper. Firstly, the acquired UAV images were pre-processed to generate orthoimages. Subsequently, multi-resolution segmentation was carried out to obtain image objects, and the barycenter of each object was calculated to generate a landslide sample database (including positive and negative samples) for deep learning. Next, four landslide feature models of deep learning and transfer learning, namely Histograms of Oriented Gradients (HOG), Bag of Visual Word (BOVW), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), and Transfer Learning (TL) were compared, and it was found that the TL model possesses the best feature extraction effect, so a landslide extraction method based on the TL model and object-oriented image analysis (TLOEL) was proposed; finally, the TLOEL method was compared with the object-oriented nearest neighbor classification (NNC) method. The research results show that the accuracy of the TLOEL method is higher than the NNC method, which can not only achieve the edge extraction of large landslides, but also detect and extract middle and small landslides accurately that are scatteredly distributed. Tobacco is an essential economic crop in China. The detection of tobacco plants in aerial images plays an important role in the management of tobacco plants and, in particular, in yield estimations. Traditional yield estimation is based on site inspections, which can be inefficient, time-consuming, and laborious. In this paper, we proposed an algorithm to detect tobacco plants in RGB aerial images automatically. The proposed algorithm is comprised of two stages: (1) A candidate selecting algorithm extracts possible tobacco plant regions from the input, (2) a trained CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) classifies a candidate as either a tobacco-plant region or a nontobacco-plant one. This proposed algorithm is trained and evaluated on different datasets. It demonstrates good performance on tobacco plant detection in aerial images and obtains a significant improvement on AP (Average Precision) compared to faster R-CNN (Regions with CNN features) and YOLOv3 (You Only Look Once v3). As a traditional edible and medicinal fungus in China, Oudemansiella raphanipes has high economic benefits. In order to achieve the automatic classification of Oudemansiella raphanipes into four quality levels using their image dataset, a quality grading algorithm based on neural network models was proposed. At first, the transfer learning strategy and six typical convolution neural network models, e.g., VGG16, ResNet50, InceptionV3, NasNet-Mobile, EfficientNet, and MobileNetV2, were used to train the datasets. Experiments show that MobileNetV2 has good performance considering both testing accuracy and detection time. MobileNetV2 only needs 37.5 ms to classify an image, which is shorter by 11.76%, 28.57%, 46.42%, 59.45%, and 79.73%, respectively, compared with the classification times of InceptionV3, EfficientNetB0, ResNet50, NasNet-Mobile, and VGG16. Based on the original MobileNetV2 model, four optimization methods, including data augmentation, hyperparameter selecting, an overfitting control strategy, and a dynamic learning rate strategy, were adopted to improve the accuracy. The final classification accuracy can reach as high as 98.75%, while the detection time for one image is only 22.5 ms and the model size is only 16.48 MB. For Case-II water bodies with relatively complex water qualities, it is challenging to establish a chlorophyll-a concentration (Chl-a concentration) inversion model with strong applicability and high accuracy. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) shows excellent performance in image target recognition and natural language processing. However, there little research exists on the inversion of Chl-a concentration in water using convolutional neural networks. Taking China's Dongting Lake as an example, 90 water samples and their spectra were collected in this study. Using eight combinations as independent variables and Chl-a concentration as the dependent variable, a CNN model was constructed to invert Chl-a concentration. The results showed that: (1) The CNN model of the original spectrum has a worse inversion effect than the CNN model of the preprocessed spectrum. The determination coefficient (RP2) of the predicted sample is increased from 0.79 to 0.88, and the root mean square error (RMSEP) of the predicted sample is reduced from 0.61 to 0.49, indicating that preprocessing can significantly improve the inversion effect of the model.; (2) among the combined models, the CNN model with Baseline1_SC (strong correlation factor of 500–750 nm baseline) has the best effect, with RP2 reaching 0.90 and RMSEP only 0.45. The average inversion effect of the eight CNN models is better. The average RP2 reaches 0.86 and the RMSEP is only 0.52, indicating the feasibility of applying CNN to Chl-a concentration inversion modeling; (3) the performance of the CNN model (Baseline1_SC (RP2 = 0.90, RMSEP = 0.45)) was far better than the traditional model of the same combination, i.e., the linear regression model (RP2 = 0.61, RMSEP = 0.72) and partial least squares regression model (Baseline1_SC (RP2 = 0.58. Improving the accuracy of edge pixel classification is crucial for extracting the winter wheat spatial distribution from remote sensing imagery using convolutional neural networks (CNNs). In this study, we proposed an approach using a partly connected conditional random field model (PCCRF) to refine the classification results of RefineNet, named RefineNet-PCCRF. First, we used an improved RefineNet model to initially segment remote sensing images, followed by obtaining the category probability vectors for each pixel and initial pixel-by-pixel classification result. Second, using manual labels as references, we performed a statistical analysis on the results to select pixels that required optimization. Third, based on prior knowledge, we redefined the pairwise potential energy, used a linear model to connect different levels of potential energies, and used only pixel pairs associated with the selected pixels to build the PCCRF. The trained PCCRF was then used to refine the initial pixel-by-pixel classification result. We used 37 Gaofen-2 images obtained from 2018 to 2019 of a representative Chinese winter wheat region (Tai'an City, China) to create the dataset, employed SegNet and RefineNet as the standard CNNs, and a fully connected conditional random field as the refinement methods to conduct comparison experiments. The RefineNet-PCCRF's accuracy (94.51%), precision (92.39%), recall (90.98%), and F1-Score (91.68%) were clearly superior than the methods used for comparison. Predictive modelling of mineral prospectivity, a critical, but challenging procedure for delineation of undiscovered prospective targets in mineral exploration, has been spurred by recent advancements of spatial modelling techniques and machine learning algorithms. In this study, a set of machine learning methods, including random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), artificial neural network (ANN), and a deep learning convolutional neural network (CNN), were employed to conduct a data-driven W prospectivity modelling of the southern Jiangxi Province, China. A total of 118 known W occurrences derived from long-term exploration of this brownfield area and eight evidential layers of multi-source geoscience information related to W mineralization constituted the input datasets. This provided a data-rich foundation for training machine learning models. The optimal configuration of model parameters was trained by a grid search procedure and validated by 10-fold cross-validation. The resulting predictive models were comprehensively assessed by a confusion matrix, receiver operating characteristic curve, and success-rate curve. The modelling results indicate that the CNN model achieves the best classification performance with an accuracy of 92.38%, followed by the RF model (87.62%). In contrast, the RF model outperforms the rest of ML models in overall predictive performance and predictive efficiency. This is characterized by the highest value of area under the curve and the steepest slope of success-rate curve. The RF model was chosen as the optimal model for mineral prospectivity in this region as it is the best predictor. The prospective zones delineated by the prospectivity map occupy 9% of the study area and capture 66.95% of the known mineral occurrences. The geological interpretation of the model reveals that previously neglected Mn anomalies are significant indicators. This implies that enrichment of ore-forming material in the host rocks may play an important role in the formation process of wolframite and can represent an innovative exploration criterion for further exploration in this area.
