Electricity consumption in buildings is one of the major causes of energy usage and knowledge of this can help building owners and users increase energy efficiency and conservation efforts. For Pacific Island countries, building electricity demand data is not readily accessible or available for constructing models to predict electricity demand. This paper starts to fill this gap by studying the case of schools in Fiji. The aim of the paper is to assess the factors affecting electricity demand for grid-connected Fijian schools and use this assessment to build mathematical models (multiple linear regression (MLR) and artificial neural network (ANN)) to predict electricity consumption. The average grid-connected electricity demand in kWh/year was 1411 for early childhood education schools, 5403 for primary schools, and 23,895 for secondary schools. For predicting electricity demand (ED) for all grid-connected schools, the stepwise MLR model shows that taking logarithm transformations on both the dependent variable and independent variables (number of students, lights, and air conditioning systems) yields statistically significant independent variables with an R2 value of 73.3% and RMSE of 0.2248. To improve the predicting performance, ANN models were constructed on both the natural form of variables and transformed variables. The optimum ANN model had an R2 value of 95.3% and an RMSE of 59.4 kWh/year. The findings of this study can assist schools in putting measures in place to reduce their electricity demand, associated costs, and carbon footprint, as well as help government ministries make better-informed policies. The life expectancy of power transformers is primarily determined by the integrity of the insulating oil and cellulose paper between the conductor turns, phases and phase to earth. During the course of their in-service lifetime, the solid insulating system of windings is contingent on long-standing ageing and decomposition. The decomposition of the cellulose paper insulation is strikingly grievous, as it reduces the tensile strength of the cellulose paper and can trigger premature failure. The latter can trigger premature failure, and to realize at which point during the operational life this may occur is a daunting task. Various methods of estimating the DP have been proposed in the literature; however, these methods yield different results, making it difficult to accurately estimate a reliable DP. In this work, a novel approach based on the Feedforward Backpropagation Artificial Neural Network has been proposed to predict the amount of DP in transformer cellulose insulation. Presently, no ANN model has been proposed to predict the remaining DP using 2FAL concentration. A databank comprising 100 data sets—70 for training and 30 for testing—is used to develop the proposed ANN using 2-furaldehyde (2FAL) as an input and DP as an output. Patient-specific 3D models of the human mandible are finding increasing utility in medical fields such as oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, dentistry, and forensic sciences. The efficient creation of personalized 3D bone models poses a key challenge in these applications. Existing solutions often rely on 3D statistical models of human bone, offering advantages in rapid bone geometry adaptation and flexibility by capturing a range of anatomical variations, but also a disadvantage in terms of reduced precision in representing specific shapes. Considering this, the proposed parametric model allows for precise manipulation using morphometric parameters acquired from medical images. This paper highlights the significance of employing the parametric model in the creation of a personalized bone model, exemplified through a case study targeting mandibular prognathism reconstruction. A personalized model is described as 3D point cloud determined through the utilization of series of parametric functions, determined by the application of geometrical morphometrics, morphology properties, and artificial neural networks in the input dataset of human mandible samples. With 95.05% of the personalized model's surface area displaying deviations within −1.00–1.00 mm relative to the input polygonal model, and a maximum deviation of 2.52 mm, this research accentuates the benefits of the parametric approach, particularly in the preoperative planning of mandibular deformity surgeries. This paper presents a new approach for the online estimation of stator and rotor resistance of induction motors for speed sensorless vector-controlled drives, using feed-forward artificial neural networks with advanced adaptive learning rates. For the rotor resistance estimation, a neural network model based on rotor speed and stator currents is developed. The rotor flux linkages acquired from the voltage model are compared with the neural network model. The feed-forward neural network employs an adaptive learning rate as the function of the obtained error during training for quick convergence with minimal estimation error. A two-layered neural network model based on the stator voltage and current equations is developed for the stator resistance estimation. The d-q axes stator currents obtained from the developed model are compared with the acquired d-q axes stator currents. For the fast convergence with minimal estimation error, an adaptive learning rate as the function of error is adopted during training. Furthermore, the neural network estimates the induction motor's speed. The simulation and experimental results justify that the developed algorithms track variation in the resistances quickly and precisely along with the speed as compared with the conventional constant learning rate algorithm, leading to reliable operation of the drive. This paper presents a novel approach to estimating short-term production of wind farms, which are made up of numerous turbine generators. It harnesses the power of big data through a blend of data-driven and model-based methods. Specifically, it combines an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for immediate future predictions of wind turbine power output with a stochastic model for dependability, using Hybrid Reliability Block Diagrams. A thorough state-of-the-art review has been conducted in order to demonstrate the applicability of an ANN for non-linear stochastic problems of energy or power forecast estimation. The study leverages an innovative cluster analysis to group wind turbines and reduce the computational effort of the ANN, with a dependability model that improves the accuracy of the data-driven output estimation. Therefore, the main novelty is the employment of a hybrid model that combines an ANN with a dependability stochastic model that accounts for the realistic operational scenarios of wind turbines, including their susceptibility to random shutdowns This approach marks a significant advancement in the field, introducing a methodology which can aid the design and the power production forecast. The research has been applied to a case study of a 24 MW wind farm located in the south of Italy, characterized by 28 turbines. Optimal power flow (OPF) is a crucial tool in the operation and planning of modern power systems. However, as power system optimization shifts towards larger-scale frameworks, and with the growing integration of distributed generations, the computational time and memory requirements of solving the alternating current (AC) OPF problems can increase exponentially with system size, posing computational challenges. In recent years, machine learning (ML) has demonstrated notable advantages in efficient computation and has been extensively applied to tackle OPF challenges. This paper presents five commonly employed OPF transformation techniques that leverage ML, offering a critical overview of the latest applications of advanced ML in solving OPF problems. Organizations managing high-performance computing systems face a multitude of challenges, including overarching concerns such as overall energy consumption, microprocessor clock frequency limitations, and the escalating costs associated with chip production. Evidently, processor speeds have plateaued over the last decade, persisting within the range of 2 GHz to 5 GHz. Scholars assert that brain-inspired computing holds substantial promise for mitigating these challenges. The spiking neural network (SNN) particularly stands out for its commendable power efficiency when juxtaposed with conventional design paradigms. Nevertheless, our scrutiny has brought to light several pivotal challenges impeding the seamless implementation of large-scale neural networks (NNs) on silicon. These challenges encompass the absence of automated tools, the need for multifaceted domain expertise, and the inadequacy of existing algorithms to efficiently partition and place extensive SNN computations onto hardware infrastructure. In this paper, we posit the development of an automated tool flow capable of transmuting any NN into an SNN. This undertaking involves the creation of a novel graph-partitioning algorithm designed to strategically place SNNs on a network-on-chip (NoC), thereby paving the way for future energy-efficient and high-performance computing paradigms. The presented methodology showcases its effectiveness by successfully transforming ANN architectures into SNNs with a marginal average error penalty of merely 2.65%. The proposed graph-partitioning algorithm enables a 14.22% decrease in inter-synaptic communication and an 87.58% reduction in intra-synaptic communication, on average, underscoring the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in optimizing NN communication pathways. Compared to a baseline graph-partitioning algorithm, the proposed approach exhibits an average decrease of 79.74% in latency and a 14.67% reduction in energy consumption. The manufacturing processes and design of metal and alloy products can be performed over a wide range of strain rates and temperatures. To design and optimize these processes using computational mechanics tools, the selection and calibration of the constitutive models is critical. In the case of hazardous and explosive impact loads, it is not always possible to test material properties. For this purpose, this paper assesses the efficiency and the accuracy of different architectures of ANNs for the identification of the Johnson–Cook material model parameters. The implemented computational tool of an ANN-based parameter identification strategy provides adequate results in a range of strain rates required for general manufacturing and product design applications. Four ANN architectures are studied to find the most suitable configuration for a reduced amount of experimental data, particularly for cases where high-impact testing is constrained. The different ANN structures are evaluated based on the model's predictive capability, revealing that the perceptron-based network of 66 inputs and one hidden layer of 30 neurons provides the highest prediction accuracy of the effective flow stress–strain behavior of Ti64 alloy and three virtual materials. Atmospheric drag stands out as the predominant non-gravitational force acting on satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), with altitudes below 2000 km. This drag exhibits a strong dependence on the thermospheric mass density (TMD), a parameter of vital significance in the realms of orbit determination, prediction, collision avoidance, and re-entry forecasting. A multitude of empirical TMD models have been developed, incorporating contemporary data sources, including TMD measurements obtained through onboard accelerometers on LEO satellites. This paper delves into three different TMD modelling techniques, specifically, Fourier series, spherical harmonics, and artificial neural networks (ANNs), during periods of geomagnetic quiescence. The TMD data utilised for modelling and evaluation are derived from three distinct LEO satellites: GOCE (at an altitude of approximately 250 km), CHAMP (around 400 km), and GRACE (around 500 km), spanning the years 2002 to 2013. The consistent utilisation of these TMD data sets allows for a clear performance assessment of the different modelling approaches. Subsequent research will shift its focus to TMD modelling during geomagnetic disturbances, while the present work can serve as a foundation for disentangling TMD variations stemming from geomagnetic activity. Furthermore, this study undertakes precise TMD modelling during geomagnetic quiescence using data obtained from the GRACE (at an altitude of approximately 500 km), CHAMP (around 400 km), and GOCE (roughly 250 km) satellites, covering the period from 2002 to 2013. It employs three distinct methods, namely Fourier analysis, spherical harmonics (SH) analysis, and the artificial neural network (ANN) technique, which are subsequently compared to identify the most suitable methodology for TMD modelling. Additionally, various combinations of time and coordinate representations are scrutinised within the context of TMD modelling. Our results show that the precision of low-order Fourier-based models can be enhanced by up to 10 % through the utilisation of geocentric solar magnetic coordinates. Both the Fourier- and SH-based models exhibit limitations in approximating the vertical gradient of TMD. Structures made of heterogeneous materials, such as composites, often require a multiscale approach when their behavior is simulated using the finite element method. By solving the boundary value problem of the macroscale model, for previously homogenized material properties, the resulting stress maps can be obtained. However, such stress results do not describe the actual behavior of the material and are often significantly different from the actual stresses in the heterogeneous microstructure. Finding high-accuracy stress results for such materials leads to time-consuming analyses in both scales. This paper focuses on the application of machine learning to multiscale analysis of structures made of composite materials, to substantially decrease the time of computations of such localization problems. The presented methodology was validated by a numerical example where a structure made of resin epoxy with randomly distributed short glass fibers was analyzed using a computational multiscale approach. The automotive production sector plays a significant role in the energy consumption of all the industrial sphere, which currently represents approximately 38% of the total global energy use. Especially in production sites with several manufacturing lines working in parallel, the occurrence of failures and anomalies or sudden changes in the production volume may require a re-scheduling of the entire production process. In this regard, a digital twin of each phase of the process would give several indications about the new re-scheduled manufacture in terms of energy consumption and the control strategy to adopt. Therefore, the main goal of this paper is to propose different modeling approaches to a degreasing tank process, which is a preliminary phase at automotive production sites before the application of paint to car bodies. In detail, two different approaches have been developed: the first is a physics-based thermodynamic approach, which relies on the mass and energy balances of the system analyzed, and the second is machine learning-based, with the calibration of several artificial neural networks (ANNs). All the investigated approaches were assessed and compared, and it was determined that, for this application and with the data at our disposal, the thermodynamic approach has better prediction accuracy, with an overall mean absolute error (MAE) of 1.30 °C. Moreover, the model can be used to optimize the heat source policy of the tank, for which it has demonstrated, with historical data, an energy saving potentiality of up to 30%, and to simulate future scenarios in which, due to company constraints, a re-scheduling of the production of more work shifts is required. The lack of intuitive controllability remains a primary challenge in enabling transhumeral amputees to control a prosthesis for arm reaching with residual limb kinematics. Recent advancements in prosthetic arm control have focused on leveraging the predictive capabilities of artificial neural networks (ANNs) to automate elbow joint motion and wrist pronation–supination during target reaching tasks. However, large quantities of human motion data collected from different subjects for various activities of daily living (ADL) tasks are required to train these ANNs. For example, the reaching motion can be altered when the height of the desk is changed; however, it is cumbersome to conduct human experiments for all conditions. This paper proposes a framework for cloning motion datasets using deep reinforcement learning (DRL) to cater to training data requirements. DRL algorithms have been demonstrated to create human-like synergistic motion in humanoid agents to handle redundancy and optimize movements. In our study, we collected real motion data from six individuals performing multi-directional arm reaching tasks in the horizontal plane. We generated synthetic motion data that mimicked similar arm reaching tasks by utilizing a physics simulation and DRL-based arm manipulation. We then trained a CNN-LSTM network with different configurations of training motion data, including DRL, real, and hybrid datasets, to test the efficacy of the cloned motion data. The results of our evaluation showcase the effectiveness of the cloned motion data in training the ANN to predict natural elbow motion accurately across multiple subjects. Furthermore, motion data augmentation through combining real and cloned motion datasets has demonstrated the enhanced robustness of the ANN by supplementing and diversifying the limited training data. These findings have significant implications for creating synthetic dataset resources for various arm movements and fostering strategies for automatized prosthetic elbow motion. A fault section in Korean distribution networks is generally determined as a section between a switch with a fault indicator (FI) and a switch without an FI. However, the existing method cannot be applied to distribution networks with distributed generations (DGs) due to false FIs that are generated by fault currents flowing from the load side of a fault location. To identify the false FIs and make the existing method applicable, this paper proposes a method to determine the fault section by utilizing an artificial neural network (ANN) model for validating FIs, which is difficult to determine using mathematical equations. The proposed ANN model is built by training the relationship between the measured A, B, C, and N phase fault currents acquired by numerous simulations on a sample distribution system, and guarantees 100% FI validations for the test data. The proposed method can accurately distinguish genuine and false Fis by utilizing the ability of the ANN model, thereby enabling the conventional FI-based method to be applied to DG-connected distribution networks without any changes to the equipment and communication infrastructure. Dealing with the islanded operation of a microgrid (MG), the micro sources must cooperate autonomously to regulate the voltage and frequency of the local power grid. Droop controller-based primary control is a method typically used to self-regulate voltage and frequency. The first problem of the droop method is that in a steady state, the microgrid's frequency and voltage deviate from their nominal values. The second concerns the power-sharing issue related to mismatched power line impedances between Distribution Generators (DGs) and MGs. A Secondary Control Unit (SCU) must be used as a high-level controller for droop-based primary control to address the first problem. This paper proposed a decentralized SCU scheme to deal with this issue using optimized PI controllers based on a Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). The GA provides the appropriate adjustment parameters for all adopted PI controllers in the primary control-based voltage and current control loops and SCU-based voltage and frequency loops. ANNs are additionally activated in SCUs to provide precise online control parameter modification. In the proposed control structure, a virtual impedance method is adopted in the primary control scheme to address the power-sharing problem of parallel DGs. Further, in this paper, one of the main objectives includes electricity transmission over long distances using Low-Voltage DC Transmission (LVDCT) systems to reduce power losses and eradicate reactive power problems. Voltage Source Inverters (VSIs) are adopted to convert the DC electrical energy into AC near the consumer loads. The simulation results illustrated the feasibility of the proposed solutions in restoring voltage and frequency deviations, reducing line losses, as well as achieving active and reactive power sharing among the DGs connected to the MG. Miscanthus is a perennial energy crop that produces high yields and has the potential to be converted into energy. The ultimate analysis determines the composition of the biomass and the energy value in terms of the higher heating value (HHV), which is the most important parameter in determining the quality of the fuel. In this study, an artificial neural network (ANN) model based on the principle of supervised learning was developed to predict the HHV of miscanthus biomass. The developed ANN model was compared with the models of predictive regression models (suggested from the literature) and the accuracy of the developed model was determined by the coefficient of determination. The paper presents data from 192 miscanthus biomass samples based on ultimate analysis and HHV. The developed model showed good properties and the possibility of prediction with high accuracy (R2 = 0.77). The paper proves the possibility of using ANN models in practical application in determining fuel properties of biomass energy crops and greater accuracy in predicting HHV than the regression models offered in the literature. Fingerprinting localization is a promising indoor positioning methods thanks to its advantage of using preinstalled infrastructure. For example, WiFi signal strength can be measured by pre-existing WiFi routers. In the offline phase, the fingerprinting localization method first stores of position and RSSI measurement pairs in a dataset. Second, it predicts a target's location by comparing the stored fingerprint database to the current measurement. The database size is normally huge, and data patterns are complicated; thus, an artificial neural network is used to model the relationship of fingerprints and locations. The existing fingerprinting locations, however, have been developed to predict only single locations. In practice, many users may require positioning services, and as such, the core algorithm should be capable of multiple localizations, which is the main contribution of this paper. Time-space four-dimensional motion target localization is a fundamental and challenging task in the field of intelligent driving, and an important part of achieving the upgrade in existing target localization technologies. In order to solve the problem of the lack of localization of moving targets in a spatio-temporal four-dimensional environment in the existing spatio-temporal data model, this paper proposes an optical imaging model in the four-dimensional time-space system and a mathematical model of the object-image point mapping relationship in the four-dimensional time-space system based on the central perspective projection model, combined with the one-dimensional "time" and three-dimensional "space". After adding the temporal dimension, the imaging system parameters are extended. In order to solve the nonlinear mapping problem of complex systems, this paper proposes to construct a time-space four-dimensional object-image mapping relationship model based on a BP artificial neural network and demonstrates the feasibility of the joint time-space four-dimensional imaging model theory. In addition, indoor time-space four-dimensional localization prediction experiments verify the performance of the model in this paper. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease that affects the neural, behavioral, and physiological systems of the brain. This disease is also known as tremor. The common symptoms of this disease are a slowness of movement known as 'bradykinesia', loss of automatic movements, speech/writing changes, and difficulty with walking at early stages. To solve these issues and to enhance the diagnostic process of PD, machine learning (ML) algorithms have been implemented for the categorization of subjective disease and healthy controls (HC) with comparable medical appearances. To provide a far-reaching outline of data modalities and artificial intelligence techniques that have been utilized in the analysis and diagnosis of PD, we conducted a literature analysis of research papers published up until 2022. A total of 112 research papers were included in this study, with an examination of their targets, data sources and different types of datasets, ML algorithms, and associated outcomes. The results showed that ML approaches and new biomarkers have a lot of promise for being used in clinical decision-making, resulting in a more systematic and informed diagnosis of PD. Despite advancements in smart grid (SG) technology, effective load forecasting utilizing big data or large-scale datasets remains a complex task for energy management, planning, and control. The Saudi SGs, in alignment with the Saudi Vision 2030, have been envisioned as future electrical grids with a bidirectional flow of power and data. To that end, data analysis and predictive models can enhance Saudi SG planning and control via artificial intelligence (AI). Recently, many AI methods including deep learning (DL) algorithms for SG applications have been published in the literature and have shown superior time series predictions compared with conventional prediction models. Current load-prediction research for the Saudi grid focuses on identifying anticipated loads and consumptions, on utilizing limited historical data and the behavior of the load's consumption, and on conducting shallow forecasting models. However, little scientific proof on complex DL models or real-life application has been conducted by researchers; few articles have studied sophisticated large-scale prediction models for Saudi grids. This paper proposes hybrid DL methods to enhance the outcomes in Saudi SG load forecasting, to improve problem-relevant features, and to accurately predict complicated power consumption, with the goal of developing reliable forecasting models and of obtaining knowledge of the relationships between the various features and attributes in the Saudi SGs. The model in this paper utilizes a real dataset from the Jeddah and Medinah grids in Saudi Arabia for a full year, 2021, with a one-hour time resolution. A benchmark strategy using different conventional DL methods including artificial neural network, recurrent neural network (RNN), conventional neural networks (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM), gated recurrent unit (GRU), and different real datasets is used to verify the proposed models. The prediction results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid DL models, with CNN–GRU and CNN–RNN with NRMSE obtaining 1.4673% and 1.222% improvements, respectively, in load forecasting accuracy. Conservation through voltage reduction (CVR) aims to reduce the peak load and energy savings in electric power systems and is being deployed at various utilities. The effectiveness of the CVR program depends on the load characteristics, i.e., the sensitivity of the load to voltage variation, and voltage regulation device settings. In the current literature, there is a lack of discussion on the CVR factor calculation using different measurements, and there is a lack of method for active power loss estimation using substation measurements. This paper provides insights into CVR factor calculation based on the measurements captured at the substation and those at the load location. This paper also proposes a new method based on curve fitting and artificial neural network to estimate the active power loss using input active power, input reactive power and input voltage at the substation. The CVR comparison study conducted in this paper helps in understanding the factors affecting CVR factor and may provide guidance in CVR implementation and impact assessment. The proposed loss estimation method sheds light on the impacts of CVR in terms of load and loss reduction. The results based on simulation studies using the IEEE 13-bus and 34-bus systems are reported in this paper, noting that the proposed methods are applicable to larger systems, as long as the required measurements at the substation are available. Future research includes testing and refining the methods using large IEEE and utility distribution systems and considering the stochastic nature of the CVR factor with changing load and voltage regulator control schemes. No study has been reported to use machine learning methods to predict the full-range test curves of circular CFST columns. In this paper, the long short-term memory (LSTM) network was introduced to calculate the axially compressive load–strain curves of the circular CFST columns according to an experiment database of limited scale. To improve the feasibility of input data for the recurrent neural network algorithm, data preprocessing methods and data configurations were discussed. The prediction results indicate that the LSTM network provides more accurate estimations compared with the artificial neural networks, random forest and support vector regression. Meanwhile, this method can be used to calculate the mechanical properties including the elastic modulus, ultimate bearing capacity, and the ductility of the columns with acceptable accuracy for engineering practice (the prediction error within 20%). Artificial neural networks (ANNs) have been an important approach for predicting the value of flow stress, which is dependent on temperature, strain, and strain rate. However, there is still a lack of sufficient knowledge regarding what structure of ANN should be used for predicting metal flow stress. In this paper, we train an ANN for predicting flow stress of In718 alloys at high temperatures using our experimental data, and the structure of the ANN is optimized by comparing the performance of four ANNs in predicting the flow stress of In718 alloy. It is found that, as the size of the ANN increases, the ability of the ANN to retrieve the flow stress results from a training dataset is significantly enhanced; however, the ability to predict the flow stress results absent from the training does not monotonically increase with the size of the ANN. It is concluded that the ANN with one hidden layer and four nodes possesses optimized performance for predicting the flow stress of In718 alloys in this study. The reason why there exists an optimized ANN size is discussed. When the ANN size is less than the optimized size, the prediction, especially the strain dependency, falls into underfitting and fails to predict the curve. When the ANN size is less than the optimized size, the predicted flow stress curves with the temperature, strain, and strain rate will contain non-physical fluctuations, thus reducing their prediction accuracy of extrapolation. For metals similar to the In718 alloy, ANNs with very few nodes in the hidden layer are preferred rather than the large ANNs with tens or hundreds of nodes in the hidden layers. There is no reliable failure pressure assessment method for pipe elbows, specifically those subjected to internal pressure and axial compressive stress, other than time-consuming numerical methods, which are impractical in time-critical situations. This paper proposes a set of empirical equations, based on Artificial Neural Networks, for the failure pressure prediction of pipe elbows subjected to combined loadings. The neural network was trained with data generated using the Finite Element Method. A parametric analysis was then carried out to study the failure behaviour of corroded high-strength steel subjected to combined loadings. It was found that defect depth, length, spacing (longitudinal), and axial compressive stress greatly influenced the failure pressure of a corroded pipe elbow, especially for defects located at the intrados, with reductions in failure pressure ranging from 12.56–78.3%. On the contrary, the effects of circumferential defect spacing were insignificant, with a maximum of 6.78% reduction in the failure pressure of the pipe elbow. This study enables the failure pressure prediction of corroded pipe elbows subjected to combined loadings using empirical equations. However, its application is limited to single, longitudinally interacting, and circumferentially interacting defects with the specified range of parameters mentioned in this study. Load forecasting (LF) is an essential factor in power system management. LF helps the utility maximize the utilization of power-generating plants and schedule them both reliably and economically. In this paper, a novel and hybrid forecasting method is proposed, combining a long short-term memory network (LSTM) and neural prophet (NP) through an artificial neural network. The paper aims to predict electric load for different time horizons with improved accuracy as well as consistency. The proposed model uses historical load data, weather data, and statistical features obtained from the historical data. Multiple case studies have been conducted with two different real-time data sets on three different types of load forecasting. The hybrid model is later compared with a few established methods of load forecasting found in the literature with different performance metrics: mean average percentage error (MAPE), root mean square error (RMSE), sum of square error (SSE), and regression coefficient (R). Moreover, a guideline with various attributes is provided for different types of load forecasting considering the applications of the proposed model. The results and comparisons from our test cases showed that the proposed hybrid model improved the forecasting accuracy for three different types of load forecasting over other forecasting techniques. Renewable energy penetration increases Smart Grid (SG) instability. A power balance between consumption and production can mitigate this instability. For this, intelligent and optimizing techniques can be used to properly combine and manage storage devices like Electric Vehicle Batteries (EVBs) with Demand-Side Management (DSM) strategies. The EVB helps distribution networks with auxiliary services, backup power, reliability, demand response, peak shaving, lower renewable power production's climate unpredictability, etc. In this paper, a new energy management system based on Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) is developed to maximize the performance of islanded SG-connected EVBs. The proposed ANN controller can operate at specified periods based on the demand curve and EVB charge level to implement a peak load shaving (PLS) DSM strategy. The intelligent controller's inputs include the time of day and the EVB's State of Charge (SOC). After the controller detects a peak demand, it alerts the EVB to start delivering power. This decrease in peak demand enhances the load factor and benefits both SG investors and end users. In this study, the adopted SG includes five parallel Distribution Generators (DGs) powered by renewable resources, which are three solar Photovoltaics (PVs) and two Wind Turbines (WTs). Sharing power among these DGs ensures the SG's stability and efficiency. To fulfill demand problem-free, this study dynamically alters the power flow toward equity in power sharing using virtual impedance-based adaptive primary control level. This study proposes a decentralized robust hierarchical secondary control system employing Genetic Algorithm (GA)-optimized Proportional-Integral (PI) controller parameters with fine-grained online tuning using ANNs to restore frequency and voltage deviations. The proposed system is evidenced to be effective through MATLAB simulations and real-time data analysis on the ThingSpeak platform using internet energy technology. Our presented model not only benefits users by enhancing their utility but also reduces energy costs with robust implementation of a control structure by restoring any frequency and voltage deviations by distributing power equally among DGs regardless of demand condition variations. Daily electricity peak load forecasting is important for electricity generation capacity planning. Accurate forecasting leads to saving on excessive electricity generating capacity, while maintaining the stability of the power system. The main challenging tasks in this research field include improving forecasting accuracy and reducing computational time. This paper proposes a hybrid model involving variational mode decomposition (VMD), empirical mode decomposition (EMD), fast Fourier transform (FFT), stepwise regression, similar days selection (SD) method, and artificial neural network (ANN) for daily electricity peak load forecasting. Stepwise regression and similar days selection method are used for input variable selection. VMD and FFT are applied for data decomposition and seasonality capturing, while EMD is employed for determining an appropriate decomposition level for VMD. The hybrid model is constructed to effectively forecast special holidays, which have different patterns from other normal weekdays and weekends. The performance of the hybrid model is tested with real electricity peak load data provided by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, the leading power utility state enterprise under the Ministry of Energy. In grid-connected operations, a microgrid can solve the problem of surplus power through regeneration; however, in the case of standalone operations, the only method to solve the surplus power problem is charging the energy storage system (ESS). However, because there is a limit to the capacity that can be charged in an ESS, a separate energy management strategy (EMS) is required for stable microgrid operation. This paper proposes an EMS for a hybrid AC/DC microgrid based on an artificial neural network (ANN). The ANN is composed of a two-step process that operates the microgrid by outputting the operation mode and charging and discharging the ESS. The microgrid consists of an interlinking converter to link with the AC distributed system, a photovoltaic converter, a wind turbine converter, and an ESS. The control method of each converter was determined according to the mode selection of the ANN. The proposed ANN-based EMS was verified using a laboratory-scale hybrid AC/DC microgrid. The experimental results reveal that the microgrid operation performed stably through control of individual converters via mode selection and reference to ESS power, which is the result of ANN integration. Developing accurate and interpretable models to forecast concrete's self-healing behavior is of interest to material engineers, scientists, and civil engineering contractors. Machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence are powerful tools that allow constructing high-precision predictions, yet often considered "black box" methods due to their complexity. Those approaches are commonly used for the modeling of mechanical properties of concrete with exceptional accuracy; however, there are few studies dealing with the application of ML for the self-healing of cementitious materials. This paper proposes a pioneering study on the utilization of ML for predicting post-fire self-healing of concrete. A large database is constructed based on the literature studies. Twelve input variables are analyzed: w/c, age of concrete, amount of cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, peak loading temperature, duration of peak loading temperature, cooling regime, duration of cooling, curing regime, duration of curing, and specimen volume. The output of the model is the compressive strength recovery, being one of the self-healing efficiency indicators. Four ML methods are optimized and compared based on their performance error: Support Vector Machines (SVM), Regression Trees (RT), Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), and Ensemble of Regression Trees (ET). Monte Carlo analysis is conducted to verify the stability of the selected model. All ML approaches demonstrate satisfying precision, twice as good as linear regression. The ET model is found to be the most optimal with the highest prediction accuracy and sufficient robustness. Model interpretation is performed using Partial Dependence Plots and Individual Conditional Expectation Plots. The fly ash-slag geopolymer is regarded as one of the new green cementitious materials that can replace cement, but it is difficult to predict its mechanical properties by conventional methods. Therefore, in the present study, the back propagation (BP) artificial neural network technique is used to predict the compressive strength of the fly ash-slag geopolymer. In this paper, data from the published literature were collected as the training set and the experimental results from laboratory experiments were used as the test set. Eight input parameters were determined, as follows: the percentage of fly ash, the percentage of slag, the water–cement ratio, the curing age, the modulus of alkali activator, the mass ratio of NaOH to Na2SiO3 and the moles of Na2O and SiO2 in the alkali activator. Three multilayer artificial neural network models were constructed using the Levenberg–Marquardt (LM), Bayesian regularization (BR) and scaled conjugate gradient (SCG) algorithms to compare the prediction accuracy of the compressive strength of the fly ash-slag geopolymer paste at different ages (3, 7, and 28 d). It was concluded that the training set error of the BR–BP neural network was the smallest. Ultimately, the hyperparameter optimization of the BR–BP neural network was carried out to compare the training set and the test set errors before and after the optimization, and the results show that the BR–BP neural network model with hyperparameter optimization had the highest prediction accuracy. This paper presents the development and validation of five different soft computing methods for flotation performance prediction: (1) two models based on fuzzy logic (Mamdani and Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy inference system) and (2) three models based on artificial neural networks. Copper content in the ore feed, collector dosage in the rougher and the scavenger flotation circuits, slurry pH in the rougher flotation circuit and frother consumption were selected as input parameters to estimate the copper grade and recovery of final concentrate, as well as the copper content in the final tailings of the flotation plant. The training and evaluation of the proposed models were performed on the basis of real process data collected by the multiannual monitoring of industrial flotation plant operation in "Veliki Krivelj Mine". The results showed that the proposed soft computing-based models well describe the behavior of the industrial flotation plant in a wide range of circumstances. Among the proposed algorithms, artificial neural networks gave the most accurate predictions for the final copper concentrate grade and recovery (R2 = 0.98 and R2 = 0.99, respectively) and copper content in final tailings (R2 = 0.87). The reliability of capacitors is one of the most important issues in power electronics. The health status of capacitors can be evaluated through the comparison of estimated C/ESR values with their original values. In this paper, a two-input artificial neural network (ANN) is proposed for C and ESR estimation of DC-link capacitors in Maglev choppers; combined with the existing voltage and current sensors that are used for protection and control, it provides a promising solution for the health condition monitoring of the Maglev chopper in the Maglev train. Compared with prior-art research, the actual capacitor degradation progress where both C and ESR degrade is considered in training. Moreover, ANN's advantage of fitting nonlinear and complex relationships is explored by building an aggressive mapping between the voltage ripple at 5 kHz to C/ESR at 120 Hz, which cannot be described or analyzed by linear circuit equations. Thus, cross validation must be implemented to avoid an occasional poor fitting, and ensure the stability of ANN. Experimental results show that the proposed ANN outperforms the support vector regression in both ESR and C estimation. While C estimation suffered from over-fitting and instability, ESR estimation by the ANN is accurate and stable with a low average prediction error within 1%, showing great potential for condition monitoring of DC-link capacitors in Maglev choppers. One of the most challenging tasks in project management is estimating the duration of a project. The unknowns that accompany projects, the different risks, the uniqueness of each project, and the differences between organizations' culture and management techniques, hinder the ability to build one project duration prediction tool that can fit all types of projects and organizations. When machine learning (ML) techniques are used for project duration prediction, the challenge is even greater, as each organization has a different dataset structure, different features, and different quality of data. This hinders the ability to create one ML model that fits all types of organizations. This paper presents a new dynamic ML tool for improving the prediction accuracy of project duration. The tool is based on an artificial neural network (ANN) which is automatically adapted and optimized to different types of prediction methods and different datasets. The tool trains the ANN model multiple times with different architectures and uses a genetic algorithm to eventually choose the architecture which gives the most accurate prediction results. The validation process of the prediction accuracy is performed by using real-life project datasets supplied by two different organizations which have different project management approaches, different project types, and different project features. The results show that the proposed tool significantly improved the prediction accuracy for both organizations despite the major differences in the size, type, and structure of their datasets. It is well known that biomedical imaging analysis plays a crucial role in the healthcare sector and produces a huge quantity of data. These data can be exploited to study diseases and their evolution in a deeper way or to predict their onsets. In particular, image classification represents one of the main problems in the biomedical imaging context. Due to the data complexity, biomedical image classification can be carried out by trainable mathematical models, such as artificial neural networks. When employing a neural network, one of the main challenges is to determine the optimal duration of the training phase to achieve the best performance. This paper introduces a new adaptive early stopping technique to set the optimal training time based on dynamic selection strategies to fix the learning rate and the mini-batch size of the stochastic gradient method exploited as the optimizer. The numerical experiments, carried out on different artificial neural networks for image classification, show that the developed adaptive early stopping procedure leads to the same literature performance while finalizing the training in fewer epochs. The numerical examples have been performed on the CIFAR100 dataset and on two distinct MedMNIST2D datasets which are the large-scale lightweight benchmark for biomedical image classification. It is generally observed that aquatic organisms have symmetric abilities to produce oxygen (O 2) and fix carbon dioxide (C O 2) . A simulation model with time-dependent parameters was recently proposed to better understand the symmetric effects of accelerated climate change on coastal ecosystems. Changes in environmental elements and marine life are two examples of variables that are expected to change over time symmetrically. The sustainability of each equilibrium point is examined in addition to proving the existence and accuracy of the proposed model. To support the conclusions of this research compared to other studies, numerical simulations of the proposed model and a case study are investigated. This paper proposes an integrated bibliographical analysis of artificial neural networks (ANNs) using the Reverse-Propagation with Levenberg–Marquaradt Scheme (RP-LMS) to evaluate the main properties and applications of ANNs. The results obtained by RP-LMS show how to prevent global warming by improving the management of marine fish resources. The reference dataset for greenhouse gas emissions, environmental temperature, aquatic population, and fisheries population (GAPF) is obtained by varying parameters in the numerical Adam approach for different scenarios. The accuracy of the proposed RP-LMS neural network is demonstrated using mean square error (MSE), regression plots, and best-fit output. The analysis of influential machine parameters can be useful to plan and design a plastic injection molding process. However, current research in parameter analysis is mostly based on computer-aided engineering (CAE) or simulation which have been demonstrated to be inadequate for analyzing complex behavioral changes in the real injection molding process. More advanced approaches using machine learning technology specifically with artificial neural networks (ANNs) brought promising results in terms of prediction accuracy. Nevertheless, the black box and distributed representation of ANN prevent humans from gaining an insight into which process parameters give a significant influence on the final prediction output. Therefore, in this paper, we develop a simpler ANN model by using structural learning with forgetting (SLF) as the algorithm for the training process. Instead of typical backpropagation which generated a fully connected layer of the ANN model, SLF only reveals the important neurons and connections. Hence, the training process of SLF leaves only influential connections and neurons. Since each of the neurons specifically on the input layer represent each of the injection molding parameters, the ANN-SLF model can be further investigated to determine the influential process parameters. A load frequency controller (LFC) is a crucial part in the distribution of a power system network (PSN) to restore its frequency response when the load demand is changed rapidly. In this paper, an artificial neural network (ANN) technique is utilised to design the optimal LFC. However, the training of the optimal ANN model for a multi-area PSN is a major challenge due to its variations in the load demand. To address this challenge, a particle swarm optimization is used to distribute the nodes of a hidden layer and to optimise the initial neurons of the ANN model, resulting in obtaining the lower mean square error of the ANN model. Hence, the mean square error and the number of epochs of the ANN model are minimised to about 9.3886 × 10−8 and 25, respectively. To assess this proposal, a MATLAB/Simulink model of the PSN is developed for the single-area PSN and multi-area PSN. The results show that the LFC based on the optimal ANN is more effective for adjusting the frequency level and improves the power delivery of the multi-area PSN comparison with the single-area PSN. Moreover, it is the most reliable for avoiding the fault condition whilst achieving the lowest time multiplied absolute error about 3.45 s when compared with the conventional ANN and PID methods. A considerable amount of discarded building materials are produced each year worldwide, resulting in ecosystem degradation. Self-compacting concrete (SCC) has 60–70% coarse and fine particles in its composition, so replacing this material with another waste material, such as recycled aggregate (RA), reduces the cost of SCC. This study compares novel Artificial Neural Network algorithm techniques—Levenberg–Marquardt (LM), Bayesian regularization (BR), and Scaled Conjugate Gradient Backpropagation (SCGB)—to estimate the 28-day compressive strength (f'c) of SCC with RA. A total of 515 samples were collected from various published papers, randomly splitting into training, validation, and testing with percentages of 70, 10 and 20. Two statistical indicators, correlation coefficient (R) and mean squared error (MSE), were used to assess the models; the greater the R and lower the MSE, the more accurate the algorithm. The findings demonstrate the higher accuracy of the three models. The best result is achieved by BR (R = 0.91 and MSE = 43.755), while the accuracy of LM is nearly the same (R = 0.90 and MSE = 48.14). LM processes the network in a much shorter time than BR. As a result, LM and BR are the best models in forecasting the 28 days f'c of SCC having RA. The sensitivity analysis showed that cement (28.39%) and water (23.47%) are the most critical variables for predicting the 28-day compressive strength of SCC with RA, while coarse aggregate contributes the least (9.23%). Bridge strikes by over-height vehicles or ships are critical sudden events. Due to their unpredictable nature, many events go unnoticed or unreported, but they can induce structural failures or hidden damage that accelerates the bridge's long-term degradation. Therefore, always-on monitoring is essential for deployed systems to enhance bridge safety through the reliable detection of such events and the rapid assessment of bridge conditions. Traditional bridge monitoring systems using wired sensors are too expensive for widespread implementation, mainly due to their significant installation cost. In this paper, an intelligent wireless monitoring system is developed as a cost-effective solution. It employs ultralow-power, event-triggered wireless sensor prototypes, which enables on-demand, high-fidelity sensing without missing unpredictable impact events. Furthermore, the proposed system adopts a smart artificial intelligence (AI)-based framework for rapid bridge assessment by utilizing artificial neural networks. Specifically, it can identify the impact location and estimate the peak force and impulse of impacts. The obtained impact information is used to provide early estimation of bridge conditions, allowing the bridge engineers to prioritize resource allocation for the timely inspection of the more severe impacts. The performance of the proposed monitoring system is demonstrated through a full-scale field test. The test results show that the developed system can capture the onset of bridge impacts, provide high-quality synchronized data, and offer a rapid damage assessment of bridges under impact events, achieving the error of around 2 m in impact localization, 1 kN for peak force estimation, and 0.01 kN·s for impulse estimation. In this paper, we study a new model that represents the symmetric connection between capacitance–voltage and Schottky diode. This model has a symmetrical shape towards the horizontal direction. In recent times, works conducted on artificial neural network structure, which is one of the greatest actual artificial intelligence apparatuses used in various fields, stated that artificial neural networks are apparatuses that proposal very high forecast performance by the side of conventional structures. In the current investigation, an artificial neural network structure has been generated to guess the capacitance voltage productions of the Schottky diode with organic polymer edge, contingent on the frequency with a symmetrical shape. Of the dataset, 130 were grouped for training, 28 for validation, and 28 for testing. In order to evaluate the effect of the number of neurons on the prediction accuracy, three different models with different neuron numbers have been developed. This study, in which an artificial neural network model, although well-trained, could not predict the output values correctly, is a first in the literature. Thermoforming is a process where the laminated sheet is pre-heated to the desired forming temperature before being pressed and cooled between the molds to give the final formed part. Defects such as wrinkles, matrix-smear or ply-splitting could occur if the process is not optimized. Traditionally, for thermoforming of fiber-reinforced composites, engineers would either have to perform numerous physical trial and error experiments or to run a large number of high-fidelity simulations in order to determine satisfactory combinations of process parameters that would yield a defect-free part. Such methods are expensive in terms of equipment and raw material usage, mold fabrication cost and man-hours. In the last decade, there has been an ongoing trend of applying machine learning methods to engineering problems, but none for woven composite thermoforming. In this paper, two applications of artificial neural networks (ANN) are presented. The first is the use of ANN to analyze full-field contour results from simulation so as to predict the process parameters resulting in the quality of the formed product. Results show that the developed ANN can predict some input parameters reasonably well from just inspecting the images of the thermoformed laminate. The second application is to optimize the process parameters that would result in a quality part through the objectives of minimizing the maximum slip-path length and maximizing the regions of the laminate with a predesignated shear angle range. Our results show that the ANN can provide reasonable optimization of the process parameters to yield improved product quality. Overall, the results from the ANNs are encouraging when compared against experimental data. The image analysis method proposed here for machine learning is novel for composite manufacturing as it can potentially be combined with machine vision in the actual manufacturing operation to provide active feedback to ensure quality products. Stencil printing is the most crucial process in reflow soldering for the mass assembly of electronic circuits. This paper investigates different machine learning-based methods to predict the essential process characteristics of stencil printing: the area, thickness, and volume of deposited solder paste. The training dataset was obtained experimentally by varying the printing speed (from 20 to 120 mm/s), the size (area ratio from 0.35 to 1.7) of stencil apertures, and the particle size (characterized by a log-normal distribution) in the solder paste. Various machine learning-based methods were assessed; ANFIS–adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems; ANN artificial neural networks (with different learning methods); boosted trees, regression trees, SVM–support vector machines. Each method was optimized and fine-tuned with hyperparameter optimization, and the overfitting phenomenon was also prevented with cross-validation. The regression tree was the best performing approach for modelling the stencil printing, while ANN with the Bayesian regularization learning method was only slightly worse. The presented methodology for fine-tuning, parameter optimization, and the comparison of different machine learning-based methods can easily be adapted to any application field in electronics manufacturing. In the oil and gas industries, predicting and classifying oil and gas production for hydrocarbon wells is difficult. Most oil and gas companies use reservoir simulation software to predict future oil and gas production and devise optimum field development plans. However, this process costs an immense number of resources and is time consuming. Each reservoir prediction experiment needs tens or hundreds of simulation runs, taking several hours or days to finish. In this paper, we attempt to overcome these issues by creating machine learning and deep learning models to expedite the process of forecasting oil and gas production. The dataset was provided by the leading oil producer, Saudi Aramco. Our approach reduced the time costs to a worst-case of a few minutes. Our study covered eight different ML and DL experiments and achieved its most outstanding R2 scores of 0.96 for XGBoost, 0.97 for ANN, and 0.98 for RNN over the other experiments. The 5G deployment brings forth the usage of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) to assist wireless networks by providing improved signal coverage, acting as relays or base-stations. Another technology that could help achieve 5G massive machine-type communications (mMtc) goals is the Long Range Wide-Area Network (LoRaWAN) communication protocol. This paper studied these complementary technologies, LoRa and UAV, through measurement campaigns in suburban, densely forested environments. Downlink and uplink communication at different heights and spreading factors (SF) demonstrate distinct behavior through our analysis. Moreover, a neural network was trained to predict the measured signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) behavior and results compared with SNR regression models. For the downlink scenario, the neural network results show a root mean square error (RMSE) variation between 1.2322–1.6623 dB, with an error standard deviation (SD) less than 1.6730 dB. Concrete is an economical and efficient material for attenuating radiation. The potential of concrete in attenuating radiation is attributed to its density, which in turn depends on the mix design of concrete. This paper presents the findings of a study conducted to evaluate the radiation attenuation with varying water-cement ratio (w/c), thickness, density, and compressive strength of concrete. Three different types of concrete, i.e., normal concrete, barite, and magnetite containing concrete, were prepared to investigate this study. The radiation attenuation was calculated by studying the dose absorbed by the concrete and the linear attenuation coefficient. Additionally, artificial neural network (ANN) and gene expression programming (GEP) models were developed for predicting the radiation shielding capacity of concrete. A correlation coefficient (R), mean absolute error (MAE), and root mean square error (RMSE) were calculated as 0.999, 1.474 mGy, 2.154 mGy and 0.994, 5.07 mGy, 5.772 mGy for the training and validation sets of the ANN model, respectively. Similarly, for the GEP model, these values were recorded as 0.981, 13.17 mGy, and 20.20 mGy for the training set, whereas the validation data yielded R = 0.985, MAE = 12.2 mGy, and RMSE = 14.96 mGy. The statistical evaluation reflects that the developed models manifested close agreement between experimental and predicted results. In comparison, the ANN model surpassed the accuracy of the GEP models, yielding the highest R and the lowest MAE and RMSE. The parametric and sensitivity analysis revealed the thickness and density of concrete as the most influential parameters in contributing towards radiation shielding. The mathematical equation derived from the GEP models signifies its importance such that the equation can be easily used for future prediction of radiation shielding of high-density concrete. In view of the flow instability problem caused by the strong shock wave and secondary flow in the channel of the high-load counter-rotating compressor, this paper adopts the design method of coupling aerodynamic optimization technology and CFD and establishes a three-dimensional aerodynamic optimization design platform for the blade channel based on an artificial neural network and genetic algorithm. The aerodynamic optimization design and internal flow-field diagnosis of a high-load counter-rotating compressor with a 1/2 + 1 aerodynamic configuration are carried out. The research indicates that the optimized blade channel can drive and adjust the flow better, and the expected supercharging purpose and efficient energy conversion process are achieved by controlling the intensity of the shock wave and secondary flow in the channel. The total pressure ratio at the design point of the compressor exceeds 2.9, the adiabatic efficiency reaches 87%, and the aerodynamic performance is excellent at the off-design condition, which is on the advanced design level of the same type of axial compressor. The established aerodynamic optimization design platform has important practical engineering applications for the development of high thrust-to-weight ratio aero-engine compression systems. The composition of self-compacting concrete (SCC) contains 60–70% coarse and fine aggregates, which are replaced by construction waste, such as recycled aggregates (RA). However, the complexity of its structure requires a time-consuming mixed design. Currently, many researchers are studying the prediction of concrete properties using soft computing techniques, which will eventually reduce environmental degradation and other material waste. There have been very limited and contradicting studies regarding prediction using different ANN algorithms. This paper aimed to predict the 28-day splitting tensile strength of SCC with RA using the artificial neural network technique by comparing the following algorithms: Levenberg–Marquardt (LM), Bayesian regularization (BR), and Scaled Conjugate Gradient Backpropagation (SCGB). There have been very limited and contradicting studies regarding prediction by using and comparing different ANN algorithms, so a total of 381 samples were collected from various published journals. The input variables were cement, admixture, water, fine and coarse aggregates, and superplasticizer; the data were randomly divided into three sets—training (60%), validation (10%), and testing (30%)—with 10 neurons in the hidden layer. The models were evaluated by the mean squared error (MSE) and correlation coefficient (R). The results indicated that all three models have optimal accuracy; still, BR gave the best performance (R = 0.91 and MSE = 0.2087) compared with LM and SCG. BR was the best model for predicting TS at 28 days for SCC with RA. The sensitivity analysis indicated that cement (30.07%) was the variable that contributed the most to the prediction of TS at 28 days for SCC with RA, and water (2.39%) contributed the least. Light rail transit (LRT) systems are vital aspects of the worldwide endeavor to achieve transport sustainability and have been essential in enhancing the economies of urban areas. Issues such as pollution, the risk of road accidents, and traffic congestion could be resolved using this progressive alternative. The statistics showed that only 20% of the commuters in Malaysia use public transport, including LRT, and 80% use private transportation. It is relatively low compared to other Asian countries. High-quality service is essential to improve users' perceived satisfaction with the provided services and increase LRT ridership. The objective of the present study is to acquire an understanding of which factors are crucially influential on users' perceptions of satisfaction. In-person questionnaires were utilized to obtain the information for this paper, with a total of 417 LRT riders in Malaysia's Klang Valley surveyed. This study adopted the factor analysis, correlation test, and artificial neural network (ANN) model. Eight elements related to the quality of service were extracted to ascertain how they influenced the perceived satisfaction of users: information signs, ticket-based services, amenities, safety, employee performance, speed, comfort, and the service details available to riders. Each factor was significantly related to the perceptions of satisfaction, according to the correlation test. Finally, the ANN model shows that the dominant factors determining the LRT users' perceived satisfaction are the signage, amenities, and provision of information. The findings of this research should benefit the providers of services, policy makers, and planning departments by enabling them to formulate successful approaches that ensure user satisfaction is enhanced and the number of riders on the LRT increases. Structural anomaly diagnosis, such as damage identification, is a continuously interesting issue. Artificial neural networks have an excellent ability to model complex structure dynamics. In this paper, an artificial neural network model is used to describe the relationship between structural responses and anomalies such as stiffness reduction due to damages. Random acceleration and displacement responses as generally measured data are used as the input to the artificial neural network, and the output of the artificial neural network is the anomaly severity. The artificial neural network model is set up by training and then validated using random vibration responses with different structural anomalies. The structural anomaly diagnosis method based on the artificial neural network model using random acceleration and displacement responses is applied to a five-story building structure under random base excitations (seismic loading). Anomalies in the structure are denoted by stiffness reduction. Structural anomaly diagnosis using random acceleration responses is compared with that using random displacement responses. The numerical results show the effects of different random vibration responses used on the accuracy of predicting stiffness reduction. The actual incomplete measurements include intensive noise, finite sampling time length, and limited measurement points. One of the main problems in representing information in the form of nonsystematic logic is the lack of flexibility, which leads to potential overfitting. Although nonsystematic logic improves the representation of the conventional k Satisfiability, the formulations of the first, second, and third-order logical structures are very predictable. This paper proposed a novel higher-order logical structure, named G-Type Random k Satisfiability, by capitalizing the new random feature of the first, second, and third-order clauses. The proposed logic was implemented into the Discrete Hopfield Neural Network as a symbolic logical rule. The proposed logic in Discrete Hopfield Neural Networks was evaluated using different parameter settings, such as different orders of clauses, different proportions between positive and negative literals, relaxation, and differing numbers of learning trials. Each evaluation utilized various performance metrics, such as learning error, testing error, weight error, energy analysis, and similarity analysis. In addition, the flexibility of the proposed logic was compared with current state-of-the-art logic rules.
