None of the currently available parameters allow for a direct and objective measurement of vaginal moisture. We used a calibrated filter paper strip as a measurement tool for the quantification of vaginal fluid, in a similar manner as the ophthalmic "Schirmer test" (used for eye moisture measurement). The study aimed to evaluate the validity of this new, objective tool, to measure vaginal moisture. We compared vaginal moisture measurements using the "modified Schirmer test" in symptomatic women with genitourinary syndrome of menopause to those of women without vaginal dryness. The mean "modified Schirmer test" measurement in the control group was 21.7 mm compared to 3.3 mm in the study group, yielding a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). Strong correlations were found between "modified Schirmer test" measurements and pH (correlation coefficient −0.714), Vaginal Health Index [VHI (0.775)], and Visual Analogue Score (VAS) of dryness during intercourse (−0.821). Our findings suggest that the "modified Schirmer test" can be used as an objective measurement for the assessment of vaginal fluid level. The types of obstacles encountered in the road environment are complex and diverse, and accurate and reliable detection of obstacles is the key to improving traffic safety. Traditional obstacle detection methods are limited by the type of samples and therefore cannot detect others comprehensively. Therefore, this paper proposes an obstacle detection method based on longitudinal active vision. The obstacles are recognized according to the height difference characteristics between the obstacle imaging points and the ground points in the image, and the obstacle detection in the target area is realized without accurately distinguishing the obstacle categories, which reduces the spatial and temporal complexity of the road environment perception. The method of this paper is compared and analyzed with the obstacle detection methods based on VIDAR (vision-IMU based detection and range method), VIDAR + MSER, and YOLOv8s. The experimental results show that the method in this paper has high detection accuracy and verifies the feasibility of obstacle detection in road environments where unknown obstacles exist. Background: The gold standard treatment for periprosthetic joint infections is the two-stage revision that includes the spacer placement before definitive reimplantation. The management of PJI affects patients' joint function and, subsequently, their mental health. Even though significant advances have been achieved, little to no attention has been paid to the psychological implications. So, based on standardized patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), this study aimed to clarify the effect of spacer treatment of infected hip and knee arthroplasties on patients' mental health. Methods: We performed research on the literature on PJIs in the English language using the MEDLINE database with the search strings "spacer" OR "spacers" AND "hip" OR "knee" AND "SF-12" OR "SF-36" OR "EQ-5" OR "mental" OR "depression" OR "anxiety." The reference lists of selected articles were also hand-searched for any additional articles. Results: A total of 973 published papers were extracted, and 9 papers were finally included. A total of 384 patients who underwent spacer placement for PJI were identified. Of these 384 patients, 54% were female. The mean age ranged from 62 to 78.2 years. Of the11 papers identified for this review, 4 analyzed only hip spacers, including 119 patients; 4 only knee spacers, evaluating 153 patients; while a single study included 112 patients for both joints. Conclusions: Patients with the spacer are living in a state of mental upset, albeit better than the preoperative state. Clinical improvement with the review is not assured. Loneliness is increasingly common, especially among older adults. Technology like mobile telepresence robots can help people feel less lonely. However, such technology has challenges, and even if people use it in the short term, they may not accept it in the long term. Prior work shows that it can take up to six months for people to fully accept technology. This study focuses on exploring the nuances and fluidity of acceptance phases. This paper reports a case study of four older adult participants living with a mobile telepresence robot for seven months. In monthly interviews, we explore their progress through the acceptance phases. Results reveal the complexity and fluidity of the acceptance phases. We discuss what this means for technology acceptance. In this paper, we also make coding guidelines for interviews on acceptance phases more concrete. We take early steps in moving toward a more standard interview and coding method to improve our understanding of acceptance phases and how to help potential users progress through them. Background: The rising diffusion of vascular resections during complex pancreatectomy for malignancy, for both oncological and technical matters, brought with it the use of vascular shunts, either temporary or definitive, to prevent bowel congestion and liver ischemia. This study aimed to systematically review the literature on the technical feasibility of vascular shunts during advanced pancreatic surgery, analyzing intraoperative and postoperative outcomes. Methods: A systematic literature search was performed on PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library Central, according to PRISMA guidelines. Studies published before 2006 were excluded, considering the lack of a standardized definition of locally advanced pancreatic cancer. The main outcomes evaluated were the overall complication rate and shunt patency. Results: Among 789 papers retrieved from the database search, only five fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were included in the review, amounting to a total of 145 patients undergoing a shunt creation at the time of pancreatectomy. Pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC) was found to be the most common diagnosis and pancreaticoduodenectomy was the main surgical procedure, accounting for 88% and 83% of the overall cohort, respectively. The distal splenorenal shunt was the most performed. Overall, 44 out of 145 patients (30%) experienced postoperative complications; the long-term patency of definitive shunts was 83% (110 out of 120 patients). Conclusions: An increasing number of patients with borderline resectable or locally advanced PDAC are becoming amenable to resection and shunt creation may facilitate vascular resection with clear margins, becoming a valid tool of modern pancreatic surgery. The vehicle longitudinal control algorithm is the core function of the adaptive cruise control system, whose main task is to convert vehicle acceleration and deceleration requirements into vehicle driving and braking commands so that the vehicle can quickly and accurately track the desired acceleration. Traditional longitudinal control algorithms rely on accurate vehicle dynamic modeling or complex controller parameter calibrations. To overcome those difficulties, a longitudinal control algorithm based on RBF-PID is proposed in this paper. The algorithm uses the RBFNN (radial basis function neural network), which can simply and quickly approximate any complex nonlinear system, to identify the Jacobian information of the vehicle and perform parameter tuning for PID control and achieve vehicle longitudinal control with self-tuning capability. Finally, the algorithm of this paper is verified by the joint simulation of Matlab/Simulink and Carsim. The results show that this algorithm has a better response rate and anti-jamming capability than the traditional PID control and can achieve accurate and rapid tracking of the desired acceleration. Past historical research on Iranian educational architecture has highlighted three socio-spatial characteristics: (i) the topological variance of spatial properties, (ii) the flexibility of spatial configuration, and (ii) the centrality of outdoor spaces, which remain under scrutiny. This paper aims to quantitatively examine the topological changes in the spatial configurations of Yazd schools over time. The study entails the application of a Justified Plan Graph (JPG) method to quantify and compare the morphological properties of three historical sets of 20 Yazd schools (traditional, transitional and modern, and contemporary). The results confirm the historical changes in the Yazd schools' flexibility and their outdoor spaces' centrality, although the variance of spatial properties over time is not clearly observed. In particular, due to the relatively higher centrality values of outdoor spaces, the traditional schools, regardless of their rigid spatial logics, developed more integrated and interactive spatial configurations. Developing high-precision vehicle longitudinal control technology guided by ecological driving represents a highly promising yet challenging endeavor. It necessitates the fulfillment of the driver's operational intentions, precise speed control, and reduced fuel consumption. In light of this challenge, this study presents a novel vehicle longitudinal control model that integrates real-time driving style analysis and road slope prediction. First, it utilizes spectral clustering based on Bi-LSTM automatic encoders to identify driver driving styles. Next, it examines the driving environment and predicts the current slope of the vehicle. Additionally, a fuzzy controller is designed to optimize control performance, adapt to various driving styles and slopes, and achieve better fuel efficiency. The research results indicate that the DS-MPC control model developed in this paper can effectively distinguish various driving modes and has high speed control accuracy while saving 3.27% of fuel. A vehicle's longitudinal acceleration is a parameter often used for determining vehicle motion dynamics. This parameter can also be used to evaluate driver behavior and passenger comfort analysis. The paper presents the results of longitudinal acceleration tests of city buses and coaches recorded during rapid acceleration and braking maneuvers. The presented test results demonstrate that longitudinal acceleration is significantly affected by road conditions and surface type. In addition, the paper presents the values of longitudinal accelerations of city buses and coaches during their regular operation. These results were obtained on the basis of registration of vehicle traffic parameters in a continuous and long-term manner. The test results showed that the maximum deceleration values recorded during the tests of city buses and coaches in real traffic conditions were much lower than the maximum deceleration values found during sudden braking maneuvers. This proves that the tested drivers in real conditions did not have to use sudden braking. The maximum positive acceleration values recorded in acceleration maneuvers were slightly higher than the acceleration values logged during the rapid acceleration tests on the track. Background: Previous research suggests that there is a link between perfectionism and symptoms of depression. This study aimed to see if different types of perfectionism are linked differently to symptoms of depression in mood disorders and if there is a relationship between perfectionism and symptoms of mania in bipolar disorder. Methods: A systematic search was conducted in the databases PsycINFO, EMBASE, Web of Science, and PubMed to find papers which examined the relationship in clinical depression and bipolar disorder. A meta-analysis pooled the correlation effect sizes for mood symptoms severity and the severity of the perfectionism subtype. Results: Twelve papers were included in the review, with five of these being included in the meta-analysis. The meta-analysis found statistically significant positive correlations between greater severity of depression symptoms and more severe perfectionism for the following subtypes: concern over mistakes, doubts about actions, other-oriented perfectionism, parental criticism, self-oriented perfectionism, and socially prescribed perfectionism. There was no significant relationship between depression symptoms and perfectionism subtypes of organisation and personal standards. There were not enough studies reporting data for manic symptoms for the meta-analysis or for any firm conclusions to be drawn. Conclusions: The relationship between depression and perfectionism differs depending on the particular type of perfectionism examined. In the context of the deepening of population aging and the trial implementation of a progressive retirement delay policy in China, understanding the relationship between the labor force participation and health status of the elderly will not only enrich relevant research but also help the elderly better achieve their goals of active aging and aging. Using the 2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, this paper first established multiple linear regression models to analyze the impact of labor force participation on the health status of elderly people in China and then established simultaneous equation models using households living on minimum living allowances and the community average of labor participation as instrumental variables to deal with the endogeneity caused by two-way causality. The findings confirmed significant positive correlations between labor force participation and physical and mental health, while caring for grandchildren and participating in social activities were found to be negatively moderated the relationship between labor force participation and the physical and mental health of older adults. The impact of labor force participation on the physical health status of older men and the mental health status of older women may be greater. In addition, labor force participation may have a greater impact on the physical health of the rural elderly, and its impact on mental health was not found to be statistically significant between urban and rural areas. The increasing prominence of the problem of censored data in various fields has made studying how to perform parameter estimation and variable selection in censored mixed-effects models one of the hotspots of current research. In this paper, considering the situation that the response variable is restricted by the bilateral limit, a double-penalty Bayesian Tobit quantile regression model was constructed to carry out parameter estimation and variable selection in the interval-censored mixed-effects model, and at the same time, the fixed-effects and random effects coefficients are compressed in Tobit's mixed-effects model, so as to reduce the estimation error of the model at the same time as the variable selection of the model is carried out. The posterior distribution of each unknown parameter was derived using the conditional Laplace prior and the mixed truncated normal distribution of interval-censored data, and then the Gibbs sampling algorithm for unknown parameter estimation was constructed. Through Monte Carlo simulation, it was found that the new method is more advantageous than the classical method in terms of variable selection and parameter estimation accuracy in various situations, such as different model sparsity, different data censoring ratios and different random error distributions, and the model is able to realize automatic variable selection. The dynamic behaviors of articulated buses during braking and steering processes are exceedingly complex due to the transmission of various forces and torques by the articulated device. The coupling of forces between the front and rear carriages often renders the bus prone to yaw instability under extreme operating conditions. In this paper, according to the characteristics of the structure and parameter matching of an electrically driven articulated bus, a dynamic model of longitudinal and transverse coupling applied on an articulated bus is established, and the influence of the articulated structure on the yaw stability of the drive vehicle is analyzed. Combined with the relationship between the driving motor, the hinge device, and the vehicle motion, a cruise simulation model of the bus is developed, enabling a comparative analysis and verification of vehicle stability under typical road conditions. Simple Summary: The current approach to breast cancer screening, which is based on a person's age, overlooks individual-level differences in breast cancer risk. As a result, many people are over- or under-screened according to their actual risk of breast cancer. Risk-stratified breast screening may overcome the limitations of age-based screening, but there are still many knowledge gaps regarding how best to implement it in the population setting. This study will generate the first Canadian evidence on the adoption of breast cancer risk assessment in the population setting, to support the future implementation of risk-stratified breast cancer screening. This study demonstrated that, while risk assessment for risk-stratified screening at the population level is feasible, an equity lens must be considered in implementation to ensure cancer-screening disparities are not widened. Risk-stratified breast screening has been proposed as a strategy to overcome the limitations of age-based screening. A prospective cohort study was undertaken within the PERSPECTIVE I&I project, which will generate the first Canadian evidence on multifactorial breast cancer risk assessment in the population setting to inform the implementation of risk-stratified screening. Recruited females aged 40–69 unaffected by breast cancer, with a previous mammogram, underwent multifactorial breast cancer risk assessment. The adoption of multifactorial risk assessment, the effectiveness of methods for collecting risk factor information and the costs of risk assessment were examined. Associations between participant characteristics and study sites, as well as data collection methods, were assessed using logistic regression; all p-values are two-sided. Of the 4246 participants recruited, 88.4% completed a risk assessment, with 79.8%, 15.7% and 4.4% estimated at average, higher than average and high risk, respectively. The total per-participant cost for risk assessment was CAD 315. Participants who chose to provide risk factor information on paper/telephone (27.2%) vs. online were more likely to be older (p = 0.021), not born in Canada (p = 0.043), visible minorities (p = 0.01) and have a lower attained education (p < 0.0001) and perceived fair/poor health (p < 0.001). The 34.4% of participants requiring risk factor verification for missing/unusual values were more likely to be visible minorities (p = 0.009) and have a lower attained education (p ≤ 0.006). This study demonstrates the feasibility of risk assessment for risk-stratified screening at the population level. Aim: To offer an overall picture of the research published regarding the different aspects of death and dying during the COVID-19 pandemic in journals covering the field of nursing in the Scopus database. Design: bibliometric analysis. Methods: The metadata obtained were exported from Scopus for subsequent analysis through Bibliometrix. Using the VOSviewer co-word analysis function, the conceptual and thematic structure of the publications was identified. Results: A total of 119 papers were retrieved, with the participation of 527 authors. The publications were found in 71 journals covering the nursing area. The main lines of research revolved around the keywords "palliative care" and "end-of-life care" in regard to the ethical, psychological, and organizational challenges faced by the health professionals who cared for these patients. Conclusion: The results obtained offer a range of data and images that characterize the scientific production published on this topic, coming to the conclusion that, due to the multifaceted and multidisciplinary approach to the experience of death, care, and accompaniment in the dying process, bibliometric maps improve the comprehensive understanding of the semantic and conceptual structure of this field of research. The effects of preterm birth, neonatal morbidities and environmental influences on infant sleep development is an important yet under-researched topic, with little known about normative sleep for infants born sick or preterm. The aim of this prospective, observational longitudinal study was to evaluate maternal perceptions and degree of bother with infant sleep behaviours and feeding outcomes across the first 9 months after discharge for sick/preterm infants cared for in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and for healthy term-born infants. This paper reports outcomes for the sick/preterm cohort (I = 94) that were recruited from two NICUs in Perth, Western Australia. Total bother scores were on average 20.2% higher at 9 months than at two weeks post-discharge (p < 0.001). Increased night waking frequency, evening settling duration and crying duration were all positively associated with total bother scores. Maternal confidence scores were negatively associated with maternal bother scores; with each unit increase in confidence, maternal bother decreased by 8.5% (p < 0.001). Covariates such as birth gestation, breastfeeding status and multiple births were not associated with maternal bother. Families may benefit from additional support when experiencing increased night waking frequency and crying and settling durations in the first 9 months after discharge from NICU. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has emerged as the primary global health challenge of the new millennium. Understanding its impact on health systems and learning from these experiences are crucial for improving system resilience against future health crises. This paper examines hospitalizations related to COVID-19 in Italy from 2020 to 2021, with a specific focus on the costs associated with these admissions. Design and methods: This is a retrospective, population-based study of Italian hospitalizations of patients diagnosed with COVID-19 during the 2020–2021 period, using data extracted from the National Hospital Discharge Registry. The outcome variables considered include hospital admissions, costs, and length of stay. Results: In Italy, hospitalizations for COVID-19 totaled 357,354 in 2020 and 399,043 in 2021, with the transfer rate being three times higher than that of other patients. Hospitalizations were predominantly concentrated in the northern regions, especially during the first year. Mortality rates increased with age, while hospitalization rates peaked in the youngest and oldest age groups. The financial impact of COVID-19 hospitalizations was approximately €3.1 billion in 2020 and €3.6 billion in 2021. The cost per admission was around €8000 for standard care and €24,000 for intensive therapy in both years. Conclusion: Conducting a cost-benefit analysis of implementing a protective pad around the entire health system, which leverages networks of family doctors and nurses connected in real-time, could be an important step in strengthening health system resilience. This paper investigates the effect of spatial variability of soil elastic modulus on the longitudinal responses of the existing shield tunnel to the new tunnel undercrossing using a random two-stage analysis method (RTSAM). The Timoshenko–Winkler-based deterministic method considering longitudinal variation in the subgrade reaction coefficient and the random field of the soil elastic modulus discretized by the Karhunen–Loeve expansion method are combined to establish the RTSAM. Then, the proposed RTSAM is applied to carry out a random analysis based on an actual engineering case. Results show that the increases in the scale of fluctuation and the coefficient of variation of the soil elastic modulus lead to higher variabilities of tunnel responses. A decreasing pillar depth and mean value of the soil elastic modulus and an increasing skew angle strengthen the effect of the spatial variability of the soil elastic modulus on tunnel responses. The variabilities of tunnel responses under the random field of the soil elastic modulus are overestimated by the Euler–Bernoulli beam model. The results of this study provide references for the uncertainty analysis of the new tunneling-induced responses of the existing tunnel under the random field of soil properties. Background: Low back pain is considered a public health problem internationally. Low back pain is a cause of disability that occurs in adolescents and causes negative effects in adults as well. The work environment and physical and psychosocial factors can influence the occurrence and evolution of low back pain. Methods: The purpose of this paper is to highlight the physiological and functional changes in young adults with painful conditions of the lumbar spine, after using exercise therapy. The study was of the longitudinal type and was carried out over a period 6 months in an outpatient setting. The rehabilitation treatment included electrotherapeutic modalities and kinesitherapy. Results: The results obtained when evaluating each parameter, for all moments, show statistically significant values in both groups. The results obtained regarding the relationship between the therapeutic modalities specific to rehabilitation medicine and low back pain are consistent with those reported in studies. Conclusions: Depending on the clinical-functional status of each patient, kinesitherapy can accelerate the heart rate and increase the blood pressure and oxygen saturation of the arterial blood, values that can later return to their initial levels, especially through training. When integrating data from multiple sources, a common challenge is block-wise missing. Most existing methods address this issue only in cross-sectional studies. In this paper, we propose a method for variable selection when combining datasets from multiple sources in longitudinal studies. To account for block-wise missing in covariates, we impute the missing values multiple times based on combinations of samples from different missing pattern and predictors from different data sources. We then use these imputed data to construct estimating equations, and aggregate the information across subjects and sources with the generalized method of moments. We employ the smoothly clipped absolute deviation penalty in variable selection and use the extended Bayesian Information Criterion criteria for tuning parameter selection. We establish the asymptotic properties of the proposed estimator, and demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed method through numerical experiments. Furthermore, we apply the proposed method in the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative study to identify sensitive early-stage biomarkers of Alzheimer's Disease, which is crucial for early disease detection and personalized treatment. Background: The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) established the Hospital Quality Initiative in 2010 to enhance patient safety, reduce hospital readmissions, improve quality, and minimize healthcare costs. In response, this study aims to systematically review the literature and conduct a meta-analysis to estimate the average cost of procedure-specific 30-day risk-standardized unplanned readmissions for Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI), Heart Failure (HF), Pneumonia, Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG), and Total Hip Arthroplasty and/or Total Knee Arthroplasty (THA/TKA). Methods: Eligibility Criteria: This study included English language original research papers from the USA, encompassing various study designs. Exclusion criteria comprise studies lacking empirical evidence on hospital financial performance. Information Sources: A comprehensive search using relevant keywords was conducted across databases from January 1990 to December 2019 (updated in March 2021), covering peer-reviewed articles and gray literature. Risk of Bias: Bias in the included studies was assessed considering study design, adjustment for confounding factors, and potential effect modifiers. Synthesis of Results: The review adhered to PRISMA guidelines. Employing Monte Carlo simulations, a meta-analysis was conducted with 100,000 simulated samples. Results indicated mean 30-day readmission costs: USD 16,037.08 (95% CI, USD 15,196.01–16,870.06) overall, USD 6852.97 (95% CI, USD 6684.44–7021.08) for AMI, USD 9817.42 (95% CI, USD 9575.82–10,060.43) for HF, and USD 21,346.50 (95% CI, USD 20,818.14–21,871.85) for THA/TKA. Simple Summary: Currently, contrast-enhancing gliomas FLAIRectomies or supramarginal gliresections are gaining momentum. This paper presents a semiquantitative analysis of FET uptake in biopsy targets inside and outside glioma masses based on PET/MR images. An exact threshold to differentiate glioma and astrogliosis within FLAIR using dual-timepoint PET acquisition and referring to various anatomical structures is a major strength of this study. Doing so paves the way for an optimized PET protocol to enable precise and reproducible FET-PET quantification for glioma mapping in clinical trials and practice. Accurately defining glioma infiltration is crucial for optimizing radiotherapy and surgery, but glioma infiltration is heterogeneous and MRI imperfectly defines the tumor extent. Currently, it is impossible to determine the tumor infiltration gradient within a FLAIR signal. O-(2-[18F]fluoroethyl)-L-tyrosine (FET)-PET often reveals high-grade glioma infiltration beyond contrast-enhancing areas on MRI. Here, we studied FET uptake dynamics in tumor and normal brain structures by dual-timepoint (10 min and 40–60 min post-injection) acquisition to optimize analysis protocols for defining glioma infiltration. Over 300 serial stereotactic biopsies from 23 patients (mean age 47, 12 female/11 male) of diffuse contrast-enhancing gliomas were taken from areas inside and outside contrast enhancement or outside the FET hotspot but inside FLAIR. The final diagnosis was G4 in 11, grade 3 in 10, and grade 2 in 2 patients. The target-to-background (TBRs) ratios and standardized uptake values (SUVs) were calculated in areas used for biopsy planning and in background structures. The optimal method and threshold values were determined to find a preferred strategy for defining glioma infiltration. Standard thresholding (1.6× uptake in the contralateral brain) in standard acquisition PET images differentiated a tumor of any grade from astrogliosis, although the uptake in astrogliosis and grade 2 glioma was similar. Analyzing an optimal strategy for infiltration volume definition astrogliosis could be accurately differentiated from tumor samples using a choroid plexus as a background. Early acquisition improved the AUC in many cases, especially within FLAIR, from 56% to 90% sensitivity and 41% to 61% specificity (standard TBR 1.6 vs. early TBR plexus). The current FET-PET evaluation protocols for contrast-enhancing gliomas are limited, especially at the tumor border where grade 2 tumor and astrogliosis have similar uptake, but using choroid plexus uptake in early acquisitions as a background, we can precisely define a tumor within FLAIR that was outside of the scope of current FET-PET protocols. Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDPs) represent a significant source of severe maternal and fetal morbidity. Screening strategies relying on traditional medical history and clinical risk factors have traditionally shown relatively modest performance, mainly in the prediction of preeclampsia, displaying a sensitivity of 37% for the early-onset form and 29% for the late-onset form. The development of more accurate predictive and diagnostic models of preeclampsia in the early stages of pregnancy represents a matter of high priority. The aim of the present paper is to create an effective second trimester prediction algorithm of early-onset HDP occurrence and severity, by combining the following two biochemical markers: a soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 (sFlt-1)/placental growth factor (PlGF) ratio and uterine artery Doppler ultrasound parameters, namely the pulsatility index (PI) and the resistivity index (RI), in a population of high-risk pregnant women, initially assessed through traditional risk factors. A prospective single-center observational longitudinal study was conducted, in which 100 women with singleton pregnancy and traditional clinical and medical history risk factors for preeclampsia were enrolled at 24 weeks of gestation. Shortly after study enrollment, all women had their sFlt-1 and PlGF levels and mean uterine artery PI and RI determined. All pregnancies were followed up until delivery. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis established algorithms based on cutoffs for the prediction of the later development of preeclampsia: PI 1.25 (96.15% sensitivity, 86.49% specificity), RI 0.62 (84.6% sensitivity, 89.2% specificity) and sFlt-1/PlGF ratio 59.55 (100% sensitivity, 89.2% specificity). The purpose of this paper was to describe and to evaluate the accuracy of a protocol that involves CAD/CAM-generated cutting guides and customized titanium plates for waferless orthognathic surgery. Twenty-one patients consecutively treated between January 2021 and January 2023 were included. The preoperative virtual surgical plan (VSP) was compared with the final position determined from the postoperative CT scan and STL files. An alignment algorithm was employed to adjust the skull position in areas unaffected by the surgery. Absolute and signed deviations were calculated across all three dimensions for each maxilla, mandible and chin landmark. The accuracy analysis revealed an overall deviation of 0.93 mm (95% confidence interval [95%CI]: 0.86 to 0.99), which was < 2 mm for all assessed landmarks (p < 0.05; one-sample t-test). The mandibular landmarks showed greater deviation than the maxillary ones (p < 0.001; independent-samples t-test). Considering the deviations along the three axes, statistically significant differences were identified (p < 0.001; one-way analysis of variance). The reported protocol provides evidence on the benefit of guided orthognathic surgery when performed using a defined VSP protocol, improving accuracy in the maxilla, mandible and chin position, considered both globally and as isolated variables. Simple Summary: This study compared two brain imaging methods, 7T magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI), which can image metabolic processes, and 3T magnetic resonance fingerprinting (MRF), which can image magnetic relaxation times, in 12 people with brain tumors called gliomas. Our goal was to understand how well these two approaches corresponded to each other, and which metabolite or relaxation time map was closest to the clinical standard, a neuroradiologist's tumor segmentation. In order to do this, we defined hotspots for each method and compared their overlaps. Additionally, we investigated the region around the tumor to look for evidence of possible tumor infiltration. The results of this study could improve how we use magnetic resonance imaging to monitor gliomas in patients. This paper investigated the correlation between magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) and magnetic resonance fingerprinting (MRF) in glioma patients by comparing neuro-oncological markers obtained from MRSI to T1/T2 maps from MRF. Data from 12 consenting patients with gliomas were analyzed by defining hotspots for T1, T2, and various metabolic ratios, and comparing them using Sørensen–Dice similarity coefficients (DSCs) and the distances between their centers of intensity (COIDs). The median DSCs between MRF and the tumor segmentation were 0.73 (T1) and 0.79 (T2). The DSCs between MRSI and MRF were the highest for Gln/tNAA (T1: 0.75, T2: 0.80, tumor: 0.78), followed by Gly/tNAA (T1: 0.57, T2: 0.62, tumor: 0.54) and tCho/tNAA (T1: 0.61, T2: 0.58, tumor: 0.45). This study investigates the impact of digital textbooks, which play an important role in post-COVID-19 digitalized education, on the development of elementary school students' affective and social competencies. The study quantitatively analyzed three years of student panel data collected from 1,418 students in the third and fourth grades of a digital textbook pilot elementary school in South Korea. This study examined differences in the development of affective and social competencies between the treatment group (n = 708), who used digital textbooks for three years, and the control group (n = 710), who used digital textbooks for two years and returned to paper textbooks. Results showed that the affective competencies of self-efficacy, learning motivation, and learning attitudes were higher in the treatment group than in the control group, and the social competencies of communication, collaboration, and sociability were also higher. Objective: The aim of this paper was to evaluate the quality of life of adult patients with onco-hematological disease treated with hematopoietic stem cell transplantation up to two years post-transplantation. Method: A quantitative, observational, longitudinal, and analytical study was conducted with 121 participants diagnosed with onco-hematological cancer who underwent hematopoietic stem cell transplantation between October 2017 and September 2019, with a 2-year post-transplantation follow-up, of whom only 39 completed the study. The Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy—Bone Marrow Transplantation (FACT-BMT) questionnaire and its subscales, Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy—General (FACT-BMT) and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy Trial Outcome Index (FACT-TOI), developed by the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy (FACIT) and validated for Spain, were used to assess quality of life. Result: The average age for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation was 54 years, with a majority of male participants. The evaluation of quality of life showed a decrease at the time of hospital discharge, followed by a progressive improvement up to one year after the transplantation. There was a significant difference in the quality of life questionnaire scores between both sexes during all stages of the research, with higher scores in male participants. The length of hospital stay significantly affected patients' physical and functional well-being, and marital status was related to differences in the perception of quality of life. Conclusions: Despite the initial decrease in quality of life for patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, levels of quality of life similar to baseline are regained one year after the transplantation. Sociodemographic variables are related to how these patients perceive their quality of life. However, further studies with a larger sample size are needed for more precise results. The rising prevalence of paediatric type 2 diabetes (T2D) is concerning, particularly with limited medical intervention despite evidence of accelerated disease progression. This study of a Barts Health NHS Trust cohort from 2008 to 2022 aims to elucidate the incidence, clinical outcomes, and complications associated with paediatric T2D. A retrospective analysis utilising electronic and paper records identified 40 patients with T2D. The incidence doubled from 2.6/year in 2008–2013 to 5.4/year in 2014–2018. Sixty-eight percent exhibited co-morbidities, notably learning disabilities. At diagnosis, the mean BMI was 32.4 ± 6.71 kg/m2, with no gender-based disparity and no significant change over a two-year follow-up. The initial HbA1c was 75.2 ± 21.0 mmol/mol, decreasing to 55.0 ± 17.4 mmol/mol after three months (p = 0.001) and then rising to 63.0 ± 25.5 mmol/mol at one year (p = 0.07). While 22/37 patients achieved HbA1c < 48 mmol/mol, only 9 maintained this for a year. Several metabolic and cardiovascular complications were observed at diagnosis and follow-up, with no significant change in frequency. In 2022, 15 patients transitioned to adult services. HbA1c at transition was 74.7 ± 27.6 mmol/mol, showing no change one year post-transition (71.9 ± 26.9 mmol/mol, p = 0.34). This study highlights substantial therapeutic failure, with current management falling short in achieving a sustained reduction in BMI or HbA1c. Background: Falling on stairs is a major health hazard for older people. Risk factors for stair falls have been identified, but these are mostly examined in controlled biomechanics/gait laboratory environments, on experimental stairs with a given set of step dimensions. It remains unknown whether the conclusions drawn from these controlled environments would apply to the negotiation of other domestic staircases with different dimensions in real houses where people live. Objectives: The aim of this paper is to investigate whether selected biomechanical stepping behavior determined through stair gait parameters such as foot clearance, foot contact length and cadence are maintained when the staircase dimensions are different in real houses. Methods: Twenty-five older adults (>65 years) walked on a custom-made seven-step laboratory staircase. Older adults were classified into two groups (fallers and non-fallers) based on recent fall history. Among the 25 participants, 13 people had at least one fall, trip, or slip in the last six months and they were assigned to the fallers group; 12 people did not experience any fall in the last six months, so they were assigned to the non-fallers group. In addition, these participants walked on the stairs in three different real exemplar houses wearing a novel instrumented shoe sensor system that could measure the above stair gait parameters. MATLAB was used to extract fall risk parameters from the collected data. One-way ANOVA was used to compare fall risk parameters on the different staircases. In addition, the laboratory-based fall risk parameters were compared to those derived from the real house stairs. Results: There was a significant difference in selected stair-fall biomechanical risk factors among the house and laboratory staircases. The fall risk group comparisons suggest that high-risk fallers implemented a biomechanically riskier strategy that could increase overall falling risk. Conclusions: The significant differences due to the main effects of the fallers and non-fallers groups were obtained. For example, when ascending, the fallers group had less foot clearance on the entry (p = 0.016) and middle steps (p = 0.003); in addition, they had more foot clearance variability on the entry steps (p = 0.003). This suggests that the fallers group in this present study did not adopt more conservative stepping strategies during stair ascent compared to low-risk older adults. Introduction: There are scarce papers about the use of fluorescence-guided surgery (FGS) in the open surgical field. This study aimed to assess the usefulness of FGS in an open setting in the pediatric population and to report our preliminary experience using the Rubina® Lens system. Methods: All patients undergoing ICG fluorescence-assisted open surgery over the period September 2022–September 2023 were enrolled. Each surgical procedure was performed using the Rubina® Lens for ICG fluorescence visualization. Results: A total of 25 patients, 14 boys and 11 girls with a median age at surgery of 5.8 years-old (range 0–15), were enrolled. Surgical indications were dermoid/epidermoid cysts of the head (n = 7), lymphangiomas of the head/neck (n = 2), thyroglossal duct cysts (n = 7), gynecomastia (n = 3), preauricular fistula (n = 2), second branchial cleft fistula (n = 1), fibrolipoma of the shoulder (n = 1) and myofibroma of the gluteal/perineal region (n = 2). In all procedures, an intralesional injection of 2.5 mg/mL ICG solution using a 30-gauge needle was administered. No adverse reactions to ICG occurred. Median operative time was 68.6 min (range 35–189). The visualization of ICG-NIRF with the Rubina® Lens was achieved in all cases. No intraoperative complications were reported. Postoperative complications occurred in 3/25 patients (12%), with gynecomastia (n = 1), thyroglossal duct cyst (n = 1) and neck lymphangioma (n = 1), who developed a fluid collection in the surgical site, requiring needle aspiration in outpatient care (Clavien–Dindo 2). Complete mass excision was confirmed with pathology reports. Conclusions: Based on this initial experience, FGS using the Rubina® Lens was very helpful in open surgery, providing enhanced visualization of anatomy and identification of margins, real-time reliability and low complication rate. It was easy to use, time saving, feasible and clinically safe. Previous experience in MIS is necessary to adopt this technology. The implementation of usability in mobile augmented reality (MAR) learning applications has been utilized in a myriad of standards, methodologies, and techniques. The usage and combination of techniques within research approaches are important in determining the quality of usability data collection. The purpose of this study is to identify, study, and analyze existing usability metrics, methods, techniques, and areas in MAR learning. This study adapts systematic literature review techniques by utilizing research questions and Boolean search strings to identify prospective studies from six established databases that are related to the research context area. Seventy-two articles, consisting of 45 journals, 25 conference proceedings, and two book chapters, were selected through a systematic process. All articles underwent a rigorous selection protocol to ensure content quality according to formulated research questions. Post-synthesis and analysis, the output of this article discusses significant factors in usability-based MAR learning applications. This paper presents five identified gaps in the domain of study, modes of contributions, issues within usability metrics, technique approaches, and hybrid technique combinations. This paper concludes five recommendations based on identified gaps concealing potential of usability-based MAR learning research domains, varieties of unexplored research types, validation of emerging usability metrics, potential of performance metrics, and untapped correlational areas to be discovered. Simple Summary: In radiotherapy treatment, organs at risk and target volumes are contoured by the clinicians to prepare a dosimetry plan. In retrospective data, these structures are not often standardised to universal names across the patients plans, which is required to enable data mining and analysis. In this paper, a new method was proposed and evaluated to automatically standardise radiotherapy structures names using machine learning algorithms. The proposed approach was deployed over a dataset with 1613 patients collected from Liverpool & Macarthur Cancer Therapy Centres, New South Wales, Australia. It was concluded that machine learning techniques can standardise the dosimetry plan structures, taking into consideration the integration of multiple modalities representing each structure during the training process. In progressing the use of big data in health systems, standardised nomenclature is required to enable data pooling and analyses. In many radiotherapy planning systems and their data archives, target volumes (TV) and organ-at-risk (OAR) structure nomenclature has not been standardised. Machine learning (ML) has been utilised to standardise volumes nomenclature in retrospective datasets. However, only subsets of the structures have been targeted. Within this paper, we proposed a new approach for standardising all the structures nomenclature by using multi-modal artificial neural networks. A cohort consisting of 1613 breast cancer patients treated with radiotherapy was identified from Liverpool & Macarthur Cancer Therapy Centres, NSW, Australia. Four types of volume characteristics were generated to represent each target and OAR volume: textual features, geometric features, dosimetry features, and imaging data. Five datasets were created from the original cohort, the first four represented different subsets of volumes and the last one represented the whole list of volumes. For each dataset, 15 sets of combinations of features were generated to investigate the effect of using different characteristics on the standardisation performance. The best model reported 99.416% classification accuracy over the hold-out sample when used to standardise all the nomenclatures in a breast cancer radiotherapy plan into 21 classes. Our results showed that ML based automation methods can be used for standardising naming conventions in a radiotherapy plan taking into consideration the inclusion of multiple modalities to better represent each volume. The present paper extends a previous publication on a field study of subclinical mastitis in sheep and focuses on the following laboratory characteristics of the staphylococcal isolates: antibiotic resistance and association with biofilm formation. The specific objectives of the present study were (a) to describe the incidence of isolation of antibiotic-resistant staphylococci from cases of mastitis throughout the milking period in dairy sheep flocks and (b) to identify relevant risk factors, which would contribute to the sustainable control of the infection. Staphylococcal isolates from subclinical mastitis were evaluated for antibiotic resistance to 18 antibiotics. Antibiotic resistance was detected in 57 of the 179 staphylococcal isolates from subclinical mastitis (31.8%). Resistance was recorded against 11 antibiotics, most often against ampicillin (63.2% of resistant isolates), penicillin (63.2%) and tetracycline (47.4%). Isolates resistant to ampicillin and penicillin were recovered in all 12 farms. Twenty-one multidrug-resistant isolates (11.7%) were also recovered. The incidence risk of isolation of staphylococci resistant to at least one (any) antibiotic throughout the study period was 23.8%. The incidence risk of isolation of staphylococci resistant to oxacillin was 5.0%; that of isolation of multidrug-resistant staphylococci was 8.8%. With regard to increased incidence risk of isolation of staphylococci resistant to at least one (any) antibiotic and increased incidence risk of isolation of staphylococci resistant to oxacillin, the omission of anti-staphylococcal mastitis vaccination of ewes emerged as a risk factor. With regard to increased incidence risk of isolation of multidrug-resistant staphylococci, the following variables emerged as risk factors: (a) higher number of antibiotics used on the farm for the treatment of mastitis and (b) younger age of lambs taken away from their dam. Most biofilm-forming antibiotic-resistant staphylococci were recovered from farms where anti-staphylococcal mastitis vaccination was not applied (55.9% versus 44.1% from farms where anti-staphylococcal mastitis vaccination was applied). The acquisition of handwriting skills is a crucial goal in early primary school. Yet our comprehension of handwriting development, encompassing graphomotor skills and spelling, remains fragmented. The identification of predictors for handwriting skills is essential for providing early support. This longitudinal study aimed to explore the predictive roles of gender, working memory, and motivation to handwrite for graphomotor skills six months later and spelling skills one year later. Paper-and-pencil tasks (graphomotor skills, spelling), a tablet task (working memory), and a questionnaire (teachers' ratings of children's handwriting motivation) were employed. This study included 363 first-grade children (49.8% girls) aged 6–9 years. Results from a structural equation model, controlling for age and socioeconomic background, revealed that girls exhibited superior performance in graphomotor skills, while boys tended to spell more accurately. Furthermore, working memory predicted graphomotor skills but not spelling. Additionally, motivation to handwrite predicted both first-grade graphomotor skills and second-grade spelling. This study extends contemporary evidence, demonstrating that graphomotor skills predict spelling while considering gender and motivation. Bronchial asthma is characterized by variable airflow obstruction, airway inflammation, and bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR) to non-specific stimuli. The role of underlying airway inflammation and of related long-lasting BHR has been suboptimally investigated in teenagers with mild-to-moderate asthma, as has the corresponding economic impact over time. The aim of the present study was to calculate the cost of mild-to-moderate atopic asthma in teenagers arising from their degree of persisting BHR over a twelve-month period. Methods: Patients aged 12–18 years with mild-to-moderate symptoms treated with fluticasone fumarate/vilanterol 92/22 mcg daily were retrospectively followed for 12 months. Usual spirometric parameters, BHR to methacholine (MCh), and resource consumption (visits, hospitalizations, systemic steroids and/or antibiotics courses, school days off) were assessed at recruitment (the index date) and after 6 and 12 months. Adherence to treatment was also calculated. The cost of asthma was calculated based on Italian tariffs and published papers. The trend over time in BHR and the association between response to MCh and total cost were investigated by using regression models adjusted for repeated measures. Results: 106 teenagers (53 males, age 15.9 ± 1.6 years) were investigated. The annual cost of asthma proved significantly related to the BHR trend: every increment of a factor 10 in the response to MCh was associated with a saving of EUR 184.90 (95% CI −305.89 to −63.90). BHR was progressively optimized after 6 and 12 months in relation to the patients' compliance to treatment (≥70% of prescribed inhalation doses). Conclusions: the usual spirometric parameters are largely insufficient to reflect the effects of underlying persistent inflammation in milder forms of asthma in teenagers. In terms of clinical governance, the periodic assessment of non-specific BHR is the appropriate procedure from this point of view. Empathy is a key skill in the daily life of preschoolers, and it is important to understand how it evolves during this crucial period of development. This paper includes two studies. The first study, which had a cross-sectional design, examined affective, cognitive, and behavioral empathy in 354 children (aged from 3 to 6 years) through a performance-based measure and questionnaires completed by their mothers. Although girls tended to have better affective empathy than boys on the performance-based task, no difference was noted in the mothers' perceptions of their children's empathy. Empathy dimensions varied depending on the age of the children. The hierarchical cluster analyses of the cases identified differentiated subgroups of children, according to their empathic skills in the three dimensions. The second study, which was longitudinal, used the same measures and investigated the developmental trajectory of empathy in 69 preschoolers over one year. The results showed that each empathic dimension predicted itself one year later, but did not predict the two others. The implications for potential interventions are emphasized in this study. Background: The transition from hospital to community settings for most mental health service users is often hindered by challenges that affect community adjustment and continuity of care. The first few weeks and days after discharge from mental health inpatient units represent a critical phase for many service users. This paper aims to evaluate the changes in the resilience, personal recovery, and quality of life status of individuals with mental health challenges recently discharged from acute mental health care into the community. Methods: Data for this study were collected as part of a pragmatic stepped-wedge cluster-randomized, longitudinal approach in Alberta. A paired sample t-test and Chi-squared/Fisher test were deployed to assess changes from baseline to six weeks in the recovery assessment scale (RAS), brief resilience scale (BRS), and EuroQol-5d (EQ-5D), using an online questionnaire. Results: A total of 306 service users were recruited and 88 completed both baseline and six weeks, giving a response rate of 28.8%. There was no statistically significant change in the level of resilience, recovery and quality of life as measured with the brief resilience scale, recovery assessment scale and EQ-5D from baseline to six weeks (p > 0.05). Conclusions: The study showed that there was neither an improvement nor deterioration in resilience, recovery, or quality of life status of service users six weeks post-discharge from inpatient mental health care. The lack of further progress calls into question whether the support available in the community when patient's leave inpatient care is adequate to promote full recovery. The results justify investigations into the effectiveness of innovative and cost-effective programs such as peer and text-based supportive interventions for service users discharged from inpatient psychiatric care. This paper conducts a comprehensive analysis of the varying thickness rolling process, grounded in the principle of pre-displacement. Within the rolling deformation zone, the subject is divided into three distinct areas: the backward slip zone, sticking zone, and forward slip zone. We propose a model that delineates the sticking-sliding motion between the rolled piece and the roller, all within the context of the rolling deformation zone, and derive a calculation method for determining the longitudinal lengths of both the sliding and sticking zones within this area. Unlike existing full sliding and full sticking models, our sticking-sliding model offers a novel perspective, overcoming inherent limitations when analyzing the rolling process. The definition of Early Cholecystectomy (EC) is still debatable. This paper aims to find whether the timing of EC affects outcomes. The article reports a multicentric prospective observational study including patients with acute calculous cholecystitis (ACC) who had cholecystectomy within ten days from the onset of symptoms. Kruskall-Wallis test, Fisher's Exact test, and Spearman rank correlation were used for statistical analysis. The patients were divided into three groups depending on the timing of the operation: 0–3 days, 4–7 days, or 8–10 days from the onset of symptoms. 1117 patients were studied over a year. The time from the onset of symptoms to EC did not affect the post-operative complications and mortality, the conversion, and the reintervention rate. The time represented a significant risk factor for intraoperative complications (0–3 days, 2.8%; 4–7 days, 5.6%; 8–10 days, 7.9%; p = 0.01) and subtotal cholecystectomies (0–3 days, 2.7%; 4–7 days, 5.6%; 8–10 days, 10.9%; p < 0.001). ACC is an evolutive inflammatory process and, as the days go by, the local and systemic inflammation increases, making surgery more complex and difficult with a higher risk of intraoperative complications. Simple Summary: Measurable residual disease monitoring is an important prognostic tool in haematological malignancies commonly performed by two modalities: flow cytometry and molecular methods. In this paper, we studied consecutive adult participants requiring flow cytometric measurable residual disease monitoring. This is one of the largest prospective Australian studies to date, providing a unique insight into the Australian context. We described five distinctive patterns associated with disease relapse and survival and also investigated correlation with molecular methods. Our results provide additional evidence that the correlation between molecular and flow cytometric methods is moderate in B-lymphoblastic leukaemia and poor in acute myeloid leukaemia. There was a strong association between flow cytometry results and relapse in acute myeloid leukaemia but less so for B-lymphoblastic leukaemia. Our novel data indicate that the pattern of change in measurable residual disease over time was associated with the risk of relapse, particularly in acute myeloid leukaemia and highlight the divergent ways measurable residual disease testing can be employed across different leukaemias. Measurable residual disease (MRD) detected by flow cytometry (FC) is well established in paediatric B- lymphoblastic leukaemia (B-ALL) and adult chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), but its utility in adult B-ALL and adult acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) is less clear. In this prospective MRD study, one of the largest in Australia to date, we examined consecutive bone marrow aspirates from adult participants with B-ALL (n = 47) and AML (n = 87) sent for FC-MRD testing at a quaternary referral hospital in Sydney. FC-MRD results were correlated to corresponding Mol-MRD testing where available and clinical outcomes at three-month intervals over 1 year. B-ALL showed a moderate positive correlation (rs = 0.401, p < 0.001), while there was no correlation between FC-MRD and Mol-MRD for AML (rs = 0.13, p = 0.237). Five FC-MRD patterns were identified which had significant associations with relapse (X2(4) = 31.17(4), p > 0.001) and survival (X2(4) = 13.67, p = 0.008) in AML, but not in B-ALL. The three-month MRD results were also strongly associated with survival in AML, while the association in B-ALL was less evident. There was a moderate correlation between FC-MRD and Mol-MRD in B-ALL but not AML. The association of FC-MRD with relapse and survival was stronger in AML than in B-ALL. Modern science is frequently based on the exploitation of large volumes of information storage in datasets and involving complex computational architectures. The statistical analyses of these datasets have to cope with specific challenges and frequently involve making informed but arbitrary decisions. Epidemiological papers have to be concise and focused on the underlying clinical or epidemiological results, not reporting the details behind relevant methodological decisions. In this work, we used an analysis of the cardiovascular-related measures tracked in 4–8-year-old children, using data from the INMA-Asturias cohort for illustrating how the decision-making process was performed and its potential impact on the obtained results. We focused on two particular aspects of the problem: how to deal with missing data and which regression model to use to evaluate tracking when there are no defined thresholds to categorize variables into risk groups. In this paper, we provide useful lessons from a quantitative analysis across several nonprofit organisations undergoing generational change due to the implementation of the Australian government's National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This paper contributes to the field in demonstrating the usefulness of the approach in revealing how change has to occur at both the micro and macro levels of the organisations involved, affecting both followers and transforming leadership, whilst simultaneously reinforcing the need to address the strategic and operational risks inherent in such transformational change. It represents a follow-up to an earlier published longitudinal qualitative research and provides further evidence on the key findings associated with the development of the NDIS Implementation Framework. The current paper considers the importance of the risk and opportunity conundrum associated with the implementation of the NDIS among Australian nonprofit service providers. This paper recognises that, as entities operating ostensibly outside the purely commercial realms of service design and delivery, nonprofit service providers are potentially handicapped by an historic lack of relevant and necessary market-based skills. The risks necessitate an accelerated programme of skill development and skill acquisition to enable the full range of opportunities to be realised. The change management processes, identified using the conceptual framework of readiness → implementation commitment → sustainability, as discussed in this paper, highlight the potential financial consequences which have substantial impacts on such nonprofit service providers. Organisations in these settings are challenged by ongoing financial sustainability issues where very small financial margins, resulting directly from the generational business model shift from a supply-driven system to a demand-driven system, may prove the difference between organisational survival and failure. Simple Summary: This study aims to investigate the potential use of the red blood cell distribution width (RDW) as a biomarker for predicting prognosis and recurrence in patients with endometrial cancer. We believe that our study makes a significant contribution to the literature because it presents a retrospective analysis of clinical data from 431 patients diagnosed with endometrial cancer, which was conducted to investigate the association between RDW and survival outcomes. The study found that patients with high RDW values had significantly worse overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) compared to those with low RDW values. RDW was also found to be an independent prognostic factor for OS and DFS. Further, we believe that this paper will be of interest to the readership of this journal because the study identifies a simple and cost-effective biomarker that can aid in the prognostic evaluation of patients with endometrial cancer. Background: Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) is a standard parameter of complete blood count and indicates the variability in red blood cell size. This study aimed to determine whether preoperative RDW can be used to predict the recurrence and prognosis of endometrial carcinoma. Methods: The medical records of 431 patients diagnosed with endometrial carcinoma were retrospectively reviewed between May 2006 and June 2018. In addition to RDW, the clinicopathological factors, survival curves, and prognoses of the patients with endometrial carcinoma were compared between the high (n = 213) and low (n = 218) groups according to the median RDW value (12.8%). Results: The patients with high RDW had significantly advanced-stage (p = 0.00) pelvic lymph node metastasis (p = 0.01) and recurrence (p = 0.01) compared to those in the low-RDW group. In univariate analysis with DFS as the endpoint, surgical stage, type II histology, grade, RDW, and lymph node metastasis were independently associated with survival. Patients with high RDW values had significantly shorter disease-free survival and overall survival than those with low RDW values (log-rank p = 0.03, log-rank p = 0.04, respectively). Conclusion: Our results demonstrate that RDW is a simple and convenient indicator of endometrial carcinoma recurrence. Prospective studies are needed to validate the findings of the current study. Simple Summary: In addition to millions of normal red and white blood cells, the blood of cancer patients contains a variety of very rare cell types associated with the tumor. A simple blood draw or 'liquid biopsy' can, thus, provide important information about the state of the disease no matter where it exists in the body. In this paper, we describe a method for imaging all rare cells in a blood draw and the means to define each cell type using a combination of genomic, proteomic, and morphological measurements to distinguish tumor cells from mesenchymal and endothelial cells that are present in the tumor microenvironment. We compare the results of this assay among multiple prostate and breast cancer patients and show that this cellular profiling method is valid across patients and cancer types and may provide important biomarkers for assessing disease in real time. Bi-directional crosstalk between the tumor and the tumor microenvironment (TME) has been shown to increase the rate of tumor evolution and to play a key role in neoplastic progression, therapeutic resistance, and a patient's overall survival. Here, we set out to use a comprehensive liquid-biopsy analysis to study cancer and specific TME cells in circulation and their association with disease status. Cytokeratin+, CD45- circulating rare cells (CRCs) from nine breast and four prostate cancer patients were characterized through morphometrics, single-cell copy number analysis, and targeted multiplexed proteomics to delineate cancer cell lineage from other rare cells originating in the TME. We show that we can detect epithelial circulating tumor cells (EPI.CTC), CTCs undergoing epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT.CTC) and circulating endothelial cells (CECs) using a universal rare event detection platform (HDSCA). Longitudinal analysis of an index patient finds that CTCs are present at the time of disease progression, while CECs are predominately present at the time of stable disease. In a small cohort of prostate and breast cancer patients, we find high inter-patient and temporal intra-patient variability in the expression of tissue specific markers such as ER, HER2, AR, PSA and PSMA and EpCAM. Our study stresses the importance of the multi-omic characterization of circulating rare cells in patients with breast and prostate carcinomas, specifically highlighting overlapping and cell type defining proteo-genomic characteristics of CTCs and CECs. Simple Summary: In this study, we investigated how frequently and how early circulating tumor cells (CTCs) were identified prior to the surveillance imaging detection of melanoma progression. This paper reports the results from 325 stage III melanoma patients from a prospective, IRB-approved study at our institution. These patients had blood drawn at baseline and then every 6–12 months to identify CTCs up to 3.5 years from diagnosis. Imaging (CT, PET/CT, MRI, and/or ultrasound) was conducted at baseline and then every 3 months as standard follow-up. We found that CTCs were detected in 76% of stage III melanoma patients who eventually had radiologically detected disease recurrence/metastasis and were identified at a median time of 9 months before imaging confirmation of disease progression. We believe that this finding is important as it provides the basis for future studies using CTCs to risk stratifying melanoma patients. Stage III melanoma includes nodal metastasis or in-transit disease. Five-year survival rates vary between 32% and 93%. The identification of high-risk patients is important for clinical decision making. We demonstrated previously that ≥1 circulating tumor cells (CTCs) at baseline was associated with recurrence. In this study, we investigated how frequently CTCs were identified prior to radiologically detected recurrence. Stage III patients (n = 325) had imaging at baseline and q 3 months. Baseline and q 6–12 months blood draws (7.5 mL) were performed to identify CTCs up to 3.5 years from diagnosis. CTC assessment was performed using the immunomagnetic capture of CD146-positive cells and anti-MEL-PE. The presence of one or more CTCs was considered positive. We analyzed the cohort of patients with relapse confirmed by radiologic imaging. CTC collection dates were assessed to determine the lead time for CTC detection. CTC-negative patients were significantly less likely to relapse compared to patients positive for CTCs (p-value < 0.001). Within the 325-patient cohort, 143 patients (44%) had recurrence, with a median follow-up of 52 months from diagnosis. The cohort (n = 143) with positive imaging and CTC results revealed 76% of patients (108/143) had CTC+ results before the radiological identification of relapse. The median time between positive CTC and positive imaging was 9 months. CTCs were positive in >75% of patients prior to relapse at a median of 9 months before radiologic detection. Concerns about the moral hazards and usage of universal health insurance require examination. This study aimed to analyze changes in lifestyle, metabolic syndrome-related health status, and individuals' tendency to use healthcare services according to changes in the eligibility status of medical aid recipients. This paper reports a retrospective cohort study that involved analyzing data from 2366 medical aid recipients aged 40 years or older who underwent national health screenings in 2012 and 2014. Of the recipients, 1606 participants continued to be eligible for medical aid (the "maintained" group) and 760 changed from being medical aid recipients to National Health Insurance (NHI) enrollees (the "changed" group). Compared to the "changed" group, the "maintained" group was less likely to quit smoking, more likely to begin smoking, less likely to reduce binge drinking to moderate drinking, and had a significant increase in blood glucose and waist circumference. Annual total medical expenses also increased significantly in the "maintained" group. Since the mere strengthening of healthcare coverage may lead to moral hazards and the failure to link individuals' tendency to use healthcare services and outcomes, establishing mechanisms is necessary to educate people about the health-related outcomes of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and ensure the appropriate use of healthcare services. This paper addresses the grammatical challenges associated with the development of clause complexity, focusing on the performance of a group of monolingual Spanish-speaking schoolchildren with Specific Language Impairment/Developmental Language Disorder (SLI/DLD) in a longitudinal corpus of oral narrative samples. The study examines the presence of interclause relations of subordination and equivalence (hypotaxis and parataxis) in language samples of two groups: an experimental group made up of 24 schoolchildren with SLI/DLD and a control group made up of 24 schoolchildren with typical development (TD). The results show that while both groups use parataxis as the most common relation between clauses in all school grades, there is a significant decrease in paratactic relations and a significant increase in hypotactic relations from first to fourth grade of primary education. Although the development patterns are highly similar, the SLI/DLD group shows greater difficulties in mastering more complex (hypotactic) relations in fourth grade compared to the control group, indicating that it is less sophisticated in the use of these types of complex relations. These findings suggest that focused support on the most complex structures is needed towards the fourth grade of primary education, given the demands of the school academic register from 6 and 7 years of age and the potential problems that the development of clause complexity can cause in school-age children. Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability and death worldwide, a severe medical condition for which new solutions for prevention, monitoring, and adequate treatment are needed. This paper proposes a SDM framework for the development of innovative and effective solutions based on artificial intelligence in the rehabilitation of stroke patients by empowering patients to make decisions about the use of devices and applications developed in the European project ALAMEDA. To develop a predictive tool for improving disability in stroke patients, key aspects of stroke patient data collection journeys, monitored health parameters, and specific variables covering motor, physical, emotional, cognitive, and sleep status are presented. The proposed SDM model involved the training and consultation of patients, medical staff, carers, and representatives under the name of the Local Community Group. Consultation with LCG members, consists of 11 representative people, physicians, nurses, patients and caregivers, which led to the definition of a methodological framework to investigate the key aspects of monitoring the patient data collection journey for the stroke pilot, and a specific questionnaire to collect stroke patient requirements and preferences. A set of general and specific guidelines specifying the principles by which patients decide to use wearable sensing devices and specific applications resulted from the analysis of the data collected using the questionnaire. Simple Summary: Childhood cancer survivors are often prone to experiencing late effects due to treatment complications. Valvular Heart Disease is a known iatrogenic effect of radiation leakage to the heart during radiotherapy and is often linked with the occurrence of other cardiac diseases like heart failure. Early identification and treatment of survivors prone to develop valvular heart disease is an important public health issue that remains challenging. In the FCCSS, a voxel-scaled reconstruction of radiation dose to the heart is available for patients that had been treated with radiotherapy. This type of uncommon data allows us to take into consideration information on the dose level that was absorbed by the cardiac tissues, as well as on the spatial characteristics of radiation dose distribution to the heart. With the help of machine learning algorithms, we attempted to train models capable of accurately predicting survivors high at risk of experiencing a late valvular heart disease after radiotherapy for childhood cancer. We suggest that there is an underlying association of the radiation dose with the occurrence of a valvular heart disease that goes beyond the mean dose to the heart and can be explained by the combination of spatial and descriptive features of the dose. Valvular Heart Disease (VHD) is a known late complication of radiotherapy for childhood cancer (CC), and identifying high-risk survivors correctly remains a challenge. This paper focuses on the distribution of the radiation dose absorbed by heart tissues. We propose that a dosiomics signature could provide insight into the spatial characteristics of the heart dose associated with a VHD, beyond the already-established risk induced by high doses. We analyzed data from the 7670 survivors of the French Childhood Cancer Survivors' Study (FCCSS), 3902 of whom were treated with radiotherapy. In all, 63 (1.6%) survivors that had been treated with radiotherapy experienced a VHD, and 57 of them had heterogeneous heart doses. From the heart–dose distribution of each survivor, we extracted 93 first-order and spatial dosiomics features. We trained random forest algorithms adapted for imbalanced classification and evaluated their predictive performance compared to the performance of standard mean heart dose (MHD)-based models. Sensitivity analyses were also conducted for sub-populations of survivors with spatially heterogeneous heart doses. Our results suggest that MHD and dosiomics-based models performed equally well globally in our cohort and that, when considering the sub-population having received a spatially heterogeneous dose distribution, the predictive capability of the models is significantly improved by the use of the dosiomics features. If these findings are further validated, the dosiomics signature may be incorporated into machine learning algorithms for radiation-induced VHD risk assessment and, in turn, into the personalized refinement of follow-up guidelines.
