Analyzing and investigating the impact of implementing an environmental policy mix on carbon emission from private cars and social welfare holds significant reference value. Firstly, based on vehicle trajectory big data, this paper employs reverse geocoding and artificial neural network models to predict carbon emissions from private cars in various provinces and cities in China. Secondly, by simulating different scenarios of carbon tax, carbon trading, and their policy mix, the propensity score matching model is constructed to explore the effects of the policy mix on carbon emission reduction from private cars and social welfare while conducting regional heterogeneity analysis. Finally, policy proposals are proposed to promote carbon emission reduction from private cars and enhance social welfare in China. The results indicate that the environmental policy mix has a significant positive impact on carbon emission reduction from private cars and social welfare. Furthermore, in the regional heterogeneity analysis, the implementation of the policy mix in eastern regions has a significant positive effect on both carbon emission reduction from private cars and social welfare, while in central and western regions, it shows a significant positive impact on social welfare but has no significant effect on carbon emission reduction in the private car sector. CO2 is one of the primary greenhouse gases impacting global climate change, making it crucial to understand the spatiotemporal variations of CO2. Currently, commonly used satellites serve as the primary means of CO2 observation, but they often suffer from striping issues and fail to achieve complete coverage. This paper proposes a method for constructing a comprehensive high-spatiotemporal-resolution XCO2 dataset based on multiple auxiliary data sources and satellite observations, utilizing multiple simple deep neural network (DNN) models. Global validation results against ground-based TCCON data demonstrate the excellent accuracy of the constructed XCO2 dataset (R is 0.94, RMSE is 0.98 ppm). Using this method, we analyze the spatiotemporal variations of CO2 in China and its surroundings (region: 0°–60° N, 70°–140° E) from 2019 to 2020. Early warning and focused regulation of veterinary drug residues in freshwater products can protect human health and stabilize social development. To improve the prediction accuracy, this paper constructs a Transformer-based model for predicting the safety risk level of veterinary drug residues in freshwater products in China to conduct a comprehensive assessment and prediction of the three veterinary drug residues with the maximum detection rate in freshwater products, including florfenicol, enrofloxacin and sulfonamides. Using the national sampling data and consumption data of freshwater products from 2019 to 2021, this paper constructs a self-built dataset, combined with the k-means algorithm, to establish the risk-level space. Finally, based on a Transformer neural network model, the safety risk assessment index is predicted on a self-built dataset, with the corresponding risk level for prediction. In this paper, comparison experiments are conducted on the self-built dataset. The experimental results show that the prediction model proposed in this paper achieves a recall rate of 94.14%, which is significantly better than other neural network models. In recent years, with the development of geological prospecting from shallow ore to deep and hidden ore, the difficulty of prospecting is increasing day by day, so the application of computer technology and new methods of geological and mineral exploration is paid more and more attention. The mining and prediction of geological prospecting information based on deep learning have become the frontier field of earth science. However, as a deep artificial intelligence algorithm, deep learning still has many problems to be solved in the big data mining and prediction of geological prospecting, such as the small number of training samples of geological and mineral images, the difficulty of building deep learning network models, and the universal applicability of deep learning models. In this paper, the training samples and convolutional neural network models suitable for geochemical element data mining are constructed to solve the above problems, and the model is successfully applied to the prediction research of gold, silver, lead and zinc polymetallic metallogenic areas in South China. Taking the Pangxidong research area in the west of Guangdong Province as an example, this paper carries out prospecting target prediction research based on a 1:50000 stream sediment survey original data. Firstly, the support vector machine (SVM) model and statistical method were used to determine the ore-related geochemical element assemblage. Secondly, the experimental data of geochemical elements were augmented and a dataset was established. Finally, ResNet-50 neural network model is used for data training and prediction research. The experimental results show that the areas numbered 9, 29, 38, 40, 95, 111, 114, 124, 144 have great metallogenic potential, and this method would be a promising tool for metallogenic prediction. By applying the ResNet-50 neural network in metallogenic prediction, it can provide a new idea for the future exploration of mineral resources. In order to verify the generality of the research method in this paper, we conducted experimental tests on the geochemical dataset of B area, another deposit research area in South China. The results show that 100% of the prediction area obtained by using the proposed method covers the known ore deposit area. At present, in the vast majority of coal mine production processes in China, the degree of hydrogeological exploration often lags behind geological exploration. The main difficulty in evaluating the water richness of coal seam top and bottom water-bearing beds is that the existing evaluation methods often rely on less hydrogeological investigation data. How to utilize the abundant geological exploration data in the mining area to appraise the water-rich distribution of sandstone aquifers is a feasible and challenging methodology. At present, some experts and scholars have tried to use multivariate factor analysis to solve the problem of water-richness evaluation, and they have achieved certain results, but there are some shortcomings: (1) The prediction results are mostly qualitative estimations of the water-richness grade, and there is a lack of quantitative analysis of the units-inflow; and (2) at present, the more advanced prediction methods, such as the back propagation (BP) neural network model, have the disadvantages of low accuracy, requiring many iterations, and slow convergence speed. Therefore, with geological exploration data of the 1503E working face of the Yili No.1 coal mine as the basis., this paper uses grey correlation analysis to screen out the factor indexes suitable for the evaluation of the water richness of a weakly cemented sandstone aquifer, and it combines principal component analysis (PCA) with a BP neural network. Based on the selected factor indexes, a prediction model of the water richness of a weakly cemented sandstone aquifer is established. Satellite-based precipitation products (SPPs) provide valuable precipitation information for various applications. Their performance, however, varies significantly from region to region due to various data sources and production processes. This paper aims to evaluate four selected SPPs (Precipitation Estimation from Remotely Sensed Information using Artificial Neural Networks Climate Data Record (PERSIANN-CDR), Multi-Source Weighted-Ensemble Precipitation (MSWEP), Gauge-adjusted Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMAP-gauge), and Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM)) over mainland China from 2016 to 2019. Both conventional statistical indicators (e.g., correlation coefficients (CC), root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), relative bias (RB), and Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE)) and categorical indicators (probability of detection (POD), probability of true detection (POTD), false-alarm rate (FAR), and critical success index (CSI)) are used for quantitative analysis. The results show that: (1) GSMAP-gauge and GPM perform best in reproducing the spatial distribution pattern of precipitation over mainland China, whereas SPPs generally underestimate summer precipitation with a high frequency of no-rain cases. (2) MSWEP has the best capability for recording precipitation events, although some parts of northern China exhibit abnormal overestimations for winter precipitation. (3) All SPPs, especially the PERSIANN-CDR, significantly underestimate the precipitation in the mountainous areas of southwestern China. (4) The GSMAP-gauge and GPM outperformed the other two of the four SPPs, in terms of the probability density function of daily precipitation for cases (PDFc) and the probability density function of daily precipitation for volume (PDFv). Generally, PERSIANN-CDR shows the poorest performance when compared to the other three products. The goal of reaching the peak of carbon in the construction industry is urgent. However, the research on the feasibility of realizing this goal and the implementation of relevant policies in China is relatively superficial. In view of the historical data of energy consumption and building CO2 emission from 1995 to 2019, this paper establishes a BP neural network model for predicting building CO2 emissions. Moreover, the influencing factors, such as population, GDP, and total construction output, are introduced as the parameters in the model. Through the scenario analysis method explores the practical path to accomplish the peak of building CO2 emissions. When using traditional prediction methods to predict building carbon emissions, the long prediction cycle will increase the possibility of significant errors. Therefore, this paper constructs the calculation model of building carbon emission and forecasts the future carbon emission value through the BP neural network to avoid the error caused by the nonlinear relationship between influencing factors and predicted value. It will effectively predict the feasibility of the carbon peak and the carbon-neutral target set by government, and provide a useful predictive tool for adjusting the new energy structure and formulating related emission reduction policies. In recent years, urban communities in China have been continuously affected by extreme weather and emergencies, among which the rainstorm and waterlogging disasters pose a great threat to infrastructure and personnel safety. Chinese governments issue a series of waterlogging prevention and control policies, but the waterlogging prevention and mitigation of urban communities still needs to be optimized. The concept of "resilience" has unique advantages in the field of community disaster management, and building resilient communities can effectively make up for the limitations of the traditional top-down disaster management. Therefore, this paper focuses on the pre-disaster prevention and control of waterlogging in urban communities of China, following the idea of "concept analysis–influencing factor identification–evaluation indicators selection–impact mechanism analysis–resilience simulation prediction–empirical research–disaster adaptation strategy formulation". The structural equation model and BP neural network are used by investigating the existing anti-waterlogging capitals of the target community to predict the future waterlogging resilience. To assess and predict the food safety risk of benzopyrene (BaP) in edible oils in China, this study collected national sampling data of edible oils from 20 Chinese provinces and their prefectures in 2019, and constructed a risk assessment model of BaP in edible oils with consumption data. Initially, the k-means algorithm was used for risk classification; then the data were pre-processed and trained to predict the data using the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and the eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) models, respectively, and finally, the two models were combined using the inverse error method. To test the effectiveness of the prediction model, this study experimentally validated the model according to five evaluation metrics: root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), precision, recall, and F1 score. The variable-weight combined LSTM-XGBoost prediction model proposed in this paper achieved a precision of 94.62%, and the F1 score value reached 95.16%, which is significantly better than other neural network models; the results demonstrate that the prediction model has certain stability and feasibility. To enhance the precision of fault diagnosis for high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) systems by effectively extracting various types of fault characteristics, a fault diagnosis method based on the long short-term memory network (LSTM) is proposed in this paper. The method relies on a knowledge graph platform and is developed using measured data from four fault types in an HVDC substation located in southwest China. Firstly, a knowledge graph for the HVDC systems is constructed, then the fault waveform data is preprocessed and divided into a training set and a test set. Various optimizers are employed to train and test the LSTM. The proposed strategy's accuracy is calculated and compared with recurrent neural network (RNN), eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), support vector machine (SVM), Naive Bayes classifier, probabilistic neural networks (PNN), and classification learner (CL), which are commonly used in fault diagnosis. Results indicate that the proposed method achieves an accuracy of over 95%, which is 30% higher than RNN, 8% higher than XGBoost, 4% higher than SVM, 7% higher than Naive Bayes, 40% higher than PNN, and 42% higher than classification learner (CL), respectively; the method also has the minimum time cost, fully demonstrating its superiority and effectiveness compared to other methods. The classification that distinguishes whether machines are driving on roads or working in fields based on their global navigation satellite system (GNSS) trajectories is essential for effective management of cross-regional agricultural machinery services in China. In this paper, a novel field–road classification method utilizing multiple deep neural networks (MultiDNN) is proposed to enhance the accuracy of field and road point classification. The MultiDNN model incorporates a bi-directional long short-term memory network (BiLSTM), a topology adaptive graph convolution network (TAG), and a self-attention network (ATT) to effectively extract spatio-temporal features for field–road classification. The BiLSTM is used to capture temporal relationships along the time axis of a trajectory, providing global contextual information for each point. Then, the TAG network is used to obtain the spatio-temporal relationships between adjacent points in a trajectory, offering local contextual information for each point. Finally, the ATT network assigns varying weights to features to emphasize important characteristics. The performance of the MultiDNN model was evaluated using a wheat harvesting trajectory dataset, and the results showed that it achieved a high degree of accuracy, up to 89.75%, outperforming the best baseline method (GCN) by 2.79%. The analysis and modeling of spatial and temporal changes in land use can reveal changing urban spatial patterns and trends. In this paper, we introduce a linear transformation optimization Markov (LTOM) model that can be exploited to estimate the state transition probability matrix of land use, building a loosely coupled ANN-CA-LTOM model for simulating and predicting land use changes. The advantages of this model are that it is flexible and high expansibility; it can maintain semantic coupling between the Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Cellular Automata (CA), and LTOM model and enhance their functions; and it can break the limitation of requiring two periods of land use data when calculating the transition probability matrix. We also construct a suitability atlas of land use as the transition rules into the CA-LTOM model, taking into account the regional natural and socioeconomic driver factors, by exploiting the ANN model. The ANN-CA-LTOM model is employed to simulate the distribution of the three major types of land use, i.e., construction land, agricultural land, and unused land, in the Nansha District, China, in 2018 and 2020. The results show that the model performs well and the overall accuracy of the land use simulation was 97.72%, with a kappa coefficient of 0.962761. Furthermore, the simulated and predicted results of land use changes from 2021 to 2023 in Nansha District show changing trends in construction, agricultural, and unused land use. Soil salinization has become one of the major environmental problems threatening food security. The identification and knowledge of the spatial distributions of soil salinization are key in addressing this problem. This study assumes that a good saline land identification effect can be obtained with the help of deep learning methods. Therefore, this study used the OLI sensor data from the Landsat-8, based on the U2-Network, and proposes a method to extract saline land from remote sensing images. The study also adds different salinity indices (SI, SI1, and SI2) to explore its impact on classification accuracy. Through our method, accurate saline soil distribution information were obtained, and several verification indicators (the Intersection-over-Union (IoU), recall, precision, and F1-score) were all measured above 0.8. In addition, compared with the multi-spectral training results, the classification accuracy increased after adding a specific salinity index, and most of the accuracy indices increased by about 2% (the IoU increased by 3.70%, recall increased by 1.50%, precision increased by 2.81%, and F1-score increased by 2.13%). In addition, we also included a case study based on our methodology to analyze the distribution characteristics and changes of saline soil in the Zhenlai area of Northeast China from 2016 to 2020. We found that the area of saline land in the Zhenlai area has reduced, which shows that the extraction method proposed in this study is feasible. Overall, this paper indicates that deep learning-based methods can efficiently extract the salinity of soil and enhance the mapping of its spatial distribution. The study has the broad impact of supplementing satellite imagery for salinity modeling and helping to guide agricultural land management practices for northeastern China and other salinized regions. Northern China is vigorously promoting cogeneration and clean heating technologies. The accurate prediction of building energy consumption is the basis for heating regulation. In this paper, the daily, weekly, and annual periods of building energy consumption are determined by Fourier transformation. Accordingly, a period-based neural network (PBNN) is proposed to predict building energy consumption. The main innovation of PBNN is the introduction of a new data structure, which is a time-discontinuous sliding window. The sliding window consists of the past 24 h, 24 h for the same period last week, and 24 h for the same period the previous year. When predicting the building energy consumption for the next 1 h, 12 h, and 24 h, the prediction errors of the PBNN are 2.30%, 3.47%, and 3.66% lower than those of the traditional sliding window PBNN (TSW-PBNN), respectively. The training time of PBNN is approximately half that of TSW-PBNN. The time-discontinuous sliding window reduces the energy consumption prediction error and neural network model training time. The unidirectional consolidation theory of soils is widely used in certain conditions and approximate calculations. The multidirectional theory of soil consolidation is more reasonable than the unidirectional theory in practical applications but is much more complicated in terms of index determination and solution. To address the above problem, in this paper, we propose a deep learning method using physics-informed neural networks (PINN) to predict the excess pore water pressure of two-dimensional soil consolidation. In the proposed method, (1) a fully connected neural network is constructed; (2) the computational domain, partial differential equation (PDE), and constraints are defined to generate data for model training; and (3) the PDE of two-dimensional soil consolidation and the model of the neural network are connected to reduce the loss of the model. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by comparison with the numerical solution of PDE for two-dimensional consolidation. Moreover, the FEM and the proposed PINN-based method are applied to predict the consolidation of foundation soils in a real case of Sichuan Railway in China, and the results are quite consistent. Extraterrestrial solar radiation (ESR) is the essential basic background for solar radiation, which determines the occurrence of the weather and atmospheric phenomena. Since the influence of ESR variation on actual rugged terrain is a diverse, complex, and dynamic process, simulating ESR over a large spatial-temporal span, especially with a high-resolution digital elevation model (DEM), is a significant challenge. In this paper, we developed a new scheme for simulating ESR over the entirety of China using a DEM with a resolution of 30 m. To fully consider regional terrain status, the feature variables used were elevation, slope, and aspects of the located grid and the surrounding four grids to reveal the topography. In addition, latitude was used as a feature variable to consider the geographical location, and the month number was used to consider the duration. On the basis of different geographical locations, the training dataset was established from 20,000 grids. With the feature variable composition and training dataset, a backpropagation artificial neural network (BP ANN) was found to have the best performance compared with the other three machine learning methods in simulating ESR for a DEM. In terms of the proposed scheme and BP ANN, we drew an ESR map of China with a resolution of 30 m. The determination coefficient of the simulation result achieved 0.99 and the root-mean-square error was less than 50 MJ/m2 in all sample areas, confirming its remarkable accuracy. In terms of efficiency, the time consumption of ESR simulated using the proposed scheme shrinks over 150 times in all sample areas compared to that simulated via the theoretical model. Simultaneously, the developed scheme was also used to simulate an ESR for a DEM with a resolution of 90 m to verify the universality and robustness of the developed scheme. In addition, we used the proposed scheme to derive the direct solar radiation and global solar radiation, thereby further proving the reliability and applicability of our study. Overall, our work convincingly proved that the proposed scheme is a potential and effective approach for quickly simulating ESR with high accuracy. This study provides the basis for different solar radiation inversions of long time series and large spatial scales, offering additional insights for simulating ESR on a large spatial-temporal span. The energy performance of buildings especially public buildings needs to be optimized together with environmental, social and cost performance, which can be achieved by the multiobjective optimization method. The traditional building performance simulation (BPS) based multiobjective optimization is time-consuming and inefficient. Practical projects of complex public building design usually involve many-objective optimization problems in which more than three objectives are considered. Using BPS based multiobjective optimization is not sufficient to solve this kind of design problem. This paper aims to propose an artificial neural network (ANN) based many-objective optimization design method, an architect-friendly integrated workflow has been implemented. The proposed method has been applied on a public library building in Changchun city of China to optimize its Energy Use Intensity (EUI), Spatial Daylight Autonomy (sDA), Useful Daylight Illuminance (UDI) and Building Envelope Cost (BEC). The optimization process has obtained 176 non-dominated solutions. By adopting the selected relative optimal solutions, 1.6×105–2.1×105 kWh energy can be saved per year; sDA value and UDI value can be increased by 8.1%–11.0% and 4.3%–4.7% respectively; BEC can be reduced by ¥1.2×105–2.1×105 ($1.7×104–3.0×104). Urban particulate matter forecasting is regarded as an essential issue for early warning and control management of air pollution, especially fine particulate matter (PM2.5). However, existing methods for PM2.5 concentration prediction neglect the effects of featured states at different times in the past on future PM2.5 concentration, and most fail to effectively simulate the temporal and spatial dependencies of PM2.5 concentration at the same time. With this consideration, we propose a deep learning-based method, AC-LSTM, which comprises a one-dimensional convolutional neural network (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM) network, and attention-based network, for urban PM2.5 concentration prediction. Instead of only using air pollutant concentrations, we also add meteorological data and the PM2.5 concentrations of adjacent air quality monitoring stations as the input to our AC-LSTM. Hence, the spatiotemporal correlation and interdependence of multivariate air quality-related time-series data are learned by the CNN–LSTM network in AC-LSTM. The attention mechanism is applied to capture the importance degrees of the effects of featured states at different times in the past on future PM2.5 concentration. The attention-based layer can automatically weigh the past feature states to improve prediction accuracy. In addition, we predict the PM2.5 concentrations over the next 24 h by using air quality data in Taiyuan city, China, and compare it with six baseline methods. To compare the overall performance of each method, the mean absolute error (MAE), root-mean-square error (RMSE), and coefficient of determination (R2) are applied to the experiments in this paper. This paper mainly improves the visual geometry group network-16 (VGG-16), which is a classic convolutional neural network (CNN), to classify the surface defects on cement concrete bridges in an accurate manner. Specifically, the number of fully connected layers was reduced by one, and the Softmax classifier was replaced with a Softmax classification layer with seven defect tags. The weight parameters of convolutional and pooling layers were shared in the pre-trained model, and the rectified linear unit (ReLU) function was taken as the activation function. The original images were collected by a road inspection vehicle driving across bridges on national and provincial highways in Jiangxi Province, China. The images on surface defects of cement concrete bridges were selected, and divided into a training set and a test set, and preprocessed through morphology-based weight adaptive denoising. To verify its performance, the improved VGG-16 was compared with traditional shallow neural networks (NNs) like the backpropagation neural network (BPNN), support vector machine (SVM), and deep CNNs like AlexNet, GoogLeNet, and ResNet on the same sample dataset of surface defects on cement concrete bridges. Judging by mean detection accuracy and top-5 accuracy, our model outperformed all the contrastive methods, and accurately differentiated between images with seven classes of defects such as normal, cracks, fracturing, plate fracturing, corner rupturing, edge/corner exfoliation, skeleton exposure, and repairs. The results indicate that our model can effectively extract the multi-layer features from surface defect images, which highlights the edges and textures. Considering the nonlinear and non-stationary characteristics of sea-level-change time series, this study focuses on enhancing the predictive accuracy of sea level change. The adjacent seas of China are selected as the research area, and the study integrates singular spectrum analysis (SSA) with long short-term memory (LSTM) neural networks to establish an SSA-LSTM hybrid model for predicting sea level change based on sea level anomaly datasets from 1993 to 2021. Comparative analyses are conducted between the SSA-LSTM hybrid model and singular LSTM neural network model, as well as (empirical mode decomposition) EMD-LSTM and (Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition with Adaptive Noise) CEEMDAN-LSTM hybrid models. Evaluation metrics, including the root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and the coefficient of determination (R2), are employed for the accuracy assessment. The results demonstrate a significant improvement in prediction accuracy using the SSA-LSTM hybrid model, with an RMSE of 5.26 mm, MAE of 4.27 mm, and R2 of 0.98, all surpassing those of the other models. The objective of this paper is to develop an approach to forecast the outdoor atmospheric corrosion rate of low alloy steels and do corrosion-knowledge mining by using a Random Forests algorithm as a mining tool. We collected the corrosion data of 17 low alloy steels under 6 atmospheric corrosion test stations in China over 16 years as the experimental datasets. Based on the datasets, a Random Forests model is established to implement the purpose of the corrosion rate prediction and data-mining. The results showed that the random forests can achieve the best generalization results compared to the commonly used machine learning methods such as the artificial neural network, support vector regression, and logistic regression. In addition, the results also showed that regarding the effect to the corrosion rate, environmental factors contributed more than chemical compositions in the low alloy steels, but as exposure time increases, the effect of the environmental factors will gradually become less. Furthermore, we give the effect changes of six environmental factors (Cl− concentration, SO2 concentration, relative humidity, temperature, rainfall, and pH) on corrosion with exposure time increasing, and the results illustrated that pH had a significant contribution to the corrosion of the entire process. The air traffic control sector (ATCS) is the basic unit of the airspace system. If we can identify the congestion of an ATCS, it will help provide decision support for planning and daily operations. However, current methods mainly characterize congestion from the static structure and the dynamic operational features, resulting in poor generalization and operability. To this end, we propose a deep learning method from the perspective of complex networks. It takes aircraft as nodes to construct an aircraft network and utilizes the complexity indices to characterize it. So, the problem of identifying congestion becomes the complexity of the aircraft network. Inspired by active learning methods, we construct a deep active learning (DAL) model for congestion recognition. It adopts an iterative semi-supervised approach to reduce the number of labeled samples while ensuring recognition performance. To make full use of a large number of unlabeled samples, the sparse autoencoder is employed to characterize all labeled samples and unlabeled samples. The hidden layer of the deep neural network is constructed by stacking. In the process of active learning iteration, minimum confidence, marginal sampling, and information entropy are introduced as measures to select samples from the unlabeled sample set with significantly different features from the labeled sample set. The model is applied to three representative sectors in China's airspace as cases. Results suggest that DAL can reduce the labeled sample set's redundancy and achieve the desired performance with the smallest number of samples. The outbreak of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in various countries at the end of last year has transferred traditional face-to-face teaching to online education platforms, which directly affects the quality of education. Taking user satisfaction on online education platforms in China as the research object, this paper uses a questionnaire survey and web crawler to collect experience data of online and offline users, constructs a customer satisfaction index system by analyzing emotion and the existing literature for quantitative analysis, and builds aback propagation (BP) neural network model to forecast user satisfaction. The conclusion shows that users' personal factors have no direct influence on user satisfaction, while platform availability has the greatest influence on user satisfaction. Finally, suggestions on improving the online education platform are given to escalate the level of online education during the COVID-19 pandemic, so as to promote the reform of information-based education. The extraction and evaluation of crop production units are important foundations for agricultural production and management in modern smallholder regions, which are very significant to the regulation and sustainable development of agriculture. Crop areas have been recognized efficiently and accurately via remote sensing (RS) and machine learning (ML), especially deep learning (DL), which are too rough for modern smallholder production. In this paper, a delimitation-grading method for actual crop production units (ACPUs) based on RS images was explored using a combination of a mask region-based convolutional neural network (Mask R-CNN), spatial analysis, comprehensive index evaluation, and cluster analysis. Da'an City, Jilin province, China, was chosen as the study region to satisfy the agro-production demands in modern smallholder areas. Firstly, the ACPUs were interpreted from perspectives such as production mode, spatial form, and actual productivity. Secondly, cultivated land plots (C-plots) were extracted by Mask R-CNN with high-resolution RS images, which were used to delineate contiguous cultivated land plots (CC-plots) on the basis of auxiliary data correction. Then, the refined delimitation-grading results of the ACPUs were obtained through comprehensive evaluation of spatial characteristics and real productivity clustering. For the conclusion, the effectiveness of the Mask R-CNN model in C-plot recognition (loss = 0.16, mean average precision (mAP) = 82.29%) and a reasonable distance threshold (20 m) for CC-plot delimiting were verified. The spatial features were evaluated with the scale-shape dimensions of nine specific indicators. Real productivities were clustered by the incorporation of two-step cluster and K-Means cluster. Furthermore, most of the ACPUs in the study area were of a reasonable scale and an appropriate shape, holding real productivities at a medium level or above. The UN 2030 Agenda sets poverty eradication as the primary goal of sustainable development. An accurate measurement of poverty is a critical input to the quality and efficiency of poverty alleviation in rural areas. However, poverty, as a geographical phenomenon, inevitably has a spatial correlation. Neglecting the spatial correlation between areas in poverty measurements will hamper efforts to improve the accuracy of poverty identification and to design policies in truly poor areas. To capture this spatial correlation, this paper proposes a new poverty measurement model based on a neural network, namely, the spatial vector deep neural network (SVDNN), which combines the spatial vector neural network model (SVNN) and the deep neural network (DNN). The SVNN was applied to measure spatial correlation, while the DNN used the SVNN output vector and explanatory variables dataset to measure the multidimensional poverty index (MPI). To determine the optimal spatial correlation structure of SVDNN, this paper compares the model performance of the spatial distance matrix, spatial adjacent matrix and spatial weighted adjacent matrix, selecting the optimal performing spatial distance matrix as the input data set of SVNN. Then, the SVDNN model was used for the MPI measurement of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, after which the results were compared with three baseline models of DNN, the back propagation neural network (BPNN), and artificial neural network (ANN). Experiments demonstrate that the SVDNN model can obtain spatial correlation from the spatial distance dataset between counties and its poverty identification accuracy is better than other baseline models. The spatio-temporal characteristics of MPI measured by SVDNN were also highly consistent with the distribution of urban aggregations and national-level poverty counties in the Yangtze River Economic Belt. The SVDNN model proposed in this paper could effectively improve the accuracy of poverty identification, thus reducing the misallocation of resources in tracking and targeting poverty in developing countries. With the economic growth and increasing urbanization in the last three decades, the air quality over China has continuously degraded, which poses a great threat to human health. The concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) directly affects the mortality of people living in the polluted areas where air quality is poor. The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (BTH) region, one of the well organized urban regions in northern China, has suffered with poor air quality and atmospheric pollution due to recent growth of the industrial sector and vehicle emissions. In the present study, we used the back propagation neural network model approach to estimate the spatial distribution of PM2.5 concentration in the BTH region for the period January 2014-December 2016, combining the satellite-derived aerosol optical depth (S-DAOD) and meteorological data. The results were validated using the ground PM2.5 data. The general method including all PM2.5 training data and 10-fold cross-method have been used for validation for PM2.5 estimation (R2 = 0.68, RMSE = 20.99 for general validation; R2 = 0.54, RMSE = 24.13 for cross-method validation). The study provides a new approach to monitoring the distribution of PM2.5 concentration. Residential energy retrofitting projects in the hot summer and cold winter (HSCW) zone of China face various risks related to project activities, which incur transaction costs (TCs), such as search, negotiation, and monitoring costs. As the leader in project implementation, the Chinese government is responsible for project planning, organisation, and coordination. However, TCs impede the government's ability to execute risk-related project activities effectively, subsequently increasing the probability of the occurrence of risk. Drawing on transaction cost economics (TCE), this study proposes a theoretical framework to understand the barriers—such as asset specificity, uncertainty, and frequency—that prevent the government from performing project activities and mitigating risks effectively. An artificial neural network (ANN) is applied to verify the hypotheses. The results underscore experience and operational maturity in project activities, cost and time constraints, and the immature retrofitting market as significant impediments to the government's execution of risk-related activities. Considering the varying roles of the government in reducing different risks, this study concludes by offering policy recommendations to alleviate these activity barriers and mitigate risks. Land use and land cover change (LUCC) prediction of cities in Western China requires higher accuracy in quantitative demand and spatial layout because of complex challenges in balancing relationships between urban constructions and ecological developments. Considering city-level areas and various types of land use and land cover, existing LUCC models without constraint or with only loose demand constraints were impractical in providing evidence of high accuracy and high-resolution predictions in areas facing fierce land competition. In this study, we proposed a two-layer SD-ANN-CA model to simulate and explore the LUCC trend and layout predictions for 2018, 2028, and 2038 in Ya'an City, Western China. The two-layer structure with an upper layer of the SD model and a lower layer of the ANN-CA model, as well as the advantages of all three methods of system dynamics (SD), artificial neural network (ANN), and cellular automata (CA), have allowed us to consider the macro-level demand constraints, meso-level driving factors constraints, and the micro-level spatial constraints into a unified model framework. The simulation results of the year 2018 have shown significant improvement in the accuracy of the ANN-CA model constructed in our earlier work, especially in types of forest land (error-accuracy: 0.08%), grassland (error-accuracy: 0.23%), and construction land (error-accuracy: 0.18%). The layout predictions of all six types of land use in 2028 and 2038 are then carried out to provide visual evidence support, which may improve the efficiency of planning and policy-making processes. Our work may also provide insights into new ways to combine quantitative methods into spatial methods in constructing city-level or even regional-level LUCC models with high resolution. Cyclic air braking is a key element for ensuring safe train operation when running on a long and steep downhill railway section. In reality, the cyclic braking performance of a train is affected by its operating environment, speed and air-refilling time. Existing optimization algorithms have the problem of low learning efficiency. To solve this problem, an intelligent control method based on the deep Q-network (DQN) algorithm for heavy-haul trains running on long and steep downhill railway sections is proposed. Firstly, the environment of heavy-haul train operation is designed by considering the line characteristics, speed limits and constraints of the train pipe's air-refilling time. Secondly, the control process of heavy-haul trains running on long and steep downhill sections is described as the reinforcement learning (RL) of a Markov decision process. By designing the critical elements of RL, a cyclic braking strategy for heavy-haul trains is established based on the reinforcement learning algorithm. Thirdly, the deep neural network and Q-learning are combined to design a neural network for approximating the action value function so that the algorithm can achieve the optimal action value function faster. Finally, simulation experiments are conducted on the actual track data pertaining to the Shuozhou–Huanghua line in China to compare the performance of the Q-learning algorithm against the DQN algorithm. Our findings revealed that the DQN-based intelligent control strategy decreased the air braking distance by 2.1% and enhanced the overall average speed by more than 7%. China is a major player in the marine fish trade. The price prediction of marine fish is of great significance to socio-economic development and the fisheries industry. However, due to the complexity and uncertainty of the marine fish market, traditional forecasting methods often struggle to accurately predict price fluctuations. Therefore, this study adopts an intelligent combination model to enhance the accuracy of food product price prediction. Firstly, three decomposition methods, namely empirical wavelet transform, singular spectrum analysis, and variational mode decomposition, are applied to decompose complex original price series. Secondly, a combination of bidirectional long short-term memory artificial neural network, extreme learning machine, and exponential smoothing prediction methods are applied to the decomposed results for cross-prediction. Subsequently, the predicted results are input into the PSO–CS intelligence algorithm for weight allocation and to generate combined prediction results. Empirical analysis is conducted using data illustrating the daily sea purchase price of larimichthys crocea in Ningde City, Fujian Province, China. The combination prediction accuracy with PSO–CS weight allocation is found to be higher than that of single model predictions, yielding superior results. With the implementation of weight allocation intelligent combinatorial modelling, the prediction of marine fish prices demonstrates higher accuracy and stability, enabling better adaptation to market changes and price fluctuations. To fully leverage the spatiotemporal dynamic correlations in air traffic flow and enhance the accuracy of traffic flow prediction models, thereby providing a more precise basis for perceiving congestion situations in the air route network, a study was conducted on a traffic flow prediction method based on deep learning considering spatiotemporal factors. A waypoint network topology graph was constructed, and a neural network model called graph convolution and self-attention-based long short-term memory neural network (GC-SALSTM) was proposed. This model utilized waypoint flow and network efficiency loss rate as input features, with graph convolution extracting spatial features from the waypoint network. Additionally, a long short-term memory network based on a self-attention mechanism was used to extract temporal features, achieving accurate prediction of waypoint traffic. An example analysis was performed on a typical busy sector of airports in the Central and Southern China region. The effectiveness of adding the network efficiency loss rate as an input feature to improve the accuracy of critical waypoint traffic prediction was validated. The performance of the proposed model was compared with various typical prediction models. The results indicated that, with the addition of the network efficiency loss rate, the root mean square error (RMSE) for eight waypoints decreased by more than 10%. Compared to the historical average (HA), autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA), support vector regression (SVR), long short-term memory (LSTM), and graph convolution network and long short-term memory network (GCN-LSTM) models, the RMSE of the proposed model decreased by 11.78%, 5.55%, 0.29%, 2.53%, and 1.09%, respectively. This suggests that the adopted network efficiency loss rate indicator effectively enhances prediction accuracy, and the constructed model exhibits superior predictive performance in short-term waypoint traffic forecasting compared to other prediction models. It contributes to optimizing flight paths and high-altitude air routes, minimizing flight delays and airborne congestion to the greatest extent, thus enhancing the overall efficiency of the entire aviation system. In order to estimate the energy consumption demand of residential buildings, this paper first discusses the status and shortcomings of current domestic energy consumption models. Then it proposes and develops a residential building energy consumption demand model based on a back propagation (BP) neural network model. After that, taking residential buildings in Chongqing (P.R. China) as an example, 16 energy consumption indicators are introduced as characteristics of the residential buildings in Chongqing. The index system of the BP neutral network prediction model is established and the multi-factorial BP neural network prediction model of Chongqing residential building energy consumption is developed using the Cshap language, based on the SQL server 2005 platform. The results obtained by applying the model in Chongqing are in good agreement with actual ones. For the power systems, for which few data are available for mid-term electricity market clearing price (MCP) forecasting at the early stage of market reform, a novel grey prediction model (defined as interval GM(0, N) model) is proposed in this paper. Over the traditional GM(0, N) model, three major improvements of the proposed model are: (i) the lower and upper bounds are firstly identified to give an interval estimation of the forecasting value; (ii) a novel whitenization method is then established to determine the definite forecasting value from the forecasting interval; and (iii) the model parameters are identified by an improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) instead of the least square method (LSM) for the limitation of LSM. Finally, a newly-reformed electricity market in Yunnan province of China is studied, and input variables are contrapuntally selected. The accuracy of the proposed model is validated by observed data. Compared with the multiple linear regression (MLR) model, the traditional GM(0, N) model and the artificial neural network (ANN) model, the proposed model gives a better performance and its superiority is further ensured by the use of the modified Diebold-Mariano (MDM) test, suggesting that it is suitable for mid-term electricity MCP forecasting in a data-sparse electricity market. The identification of overpass structures in road networks has great significance for multi-scale modeling of roads, congestion analysis, and vehicle navigation. The traditional vector-based methods identify overpasses by the methodologies coming from computational geometry and graph theory, and they overly rely on the artificially designed features and have poor adaptability to complex scenes. This paper presents a novel method of identifying overpasses based on a target detection model (Faster-RCNN). This method utilizes raster representation of vector data and convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to learn task adaptive features from raster data, then identifies the location of an overpass by a Region Proposal network (RPN). The contribution of this paper is: (1) An overpass labelling geodatabase (OLGDB) for the OpenStreetMap (OSM) road network data of six typical cities in China is established; (2) Three different CNNs (ZF-net, VGG-16, Inception-ResNet V2) are integrated into Faster-RCNN and evaluated by accuracy performance; (3) The optimal combination of learning rate and batchsize is determined by fine-tuning; and (4) Five geometric metrics (perimeter, area, squareness, circularity, and W/L) are synthetized into image bands to enhance the training data, and their contribution to the overpass identification task is determined. The experimental results have shown that the proposed method has good accuracy performance (around 90%), and could be improved with the expansion of OLGDB and switching to more sophisticated target detection models. The deep learning target detection model has great application potential in large-scale road network pattern recognition, it can task-adaptively learn road structure features and easily extend to other road network patterns. The energy consumption pattern dominated by traditional fossil energy has led to global energy resource constraints and the deterioration of the ecological environment. These challenges have become a major issue all over the world. At present, the Chinese government aims to significantly reduce the fossil energy consumption contribution in the terminal energy consumption. The development of renewable energy in the terminal energy and energy conversion links has significantly increased the proportion of clean low-carbon energy. In order to accurately get the proportion of renewable energy terminal power consumption, firstly, this paper selects a primary influencing-factors set including the gross GDP, fixed investment in renewable energy industry, total length of cross-provincial and cross-regional high-voltage transmission lines, etc. as influencing factors of China's electricity consumption fraction produced by renewable energy based on a multitude of papers. Secondly, from the perspective of signal decomposition, the data inevitably has a lot of interference and noise. This paper uses the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) algorithm to reduce the degree of signal distortion and decomposes the signal into natural modes including several intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) and a residual term (Res); afterwards, a new extreme learning machine (ELM) forecasting model optimized by an Inverse Square Root Linear Units (ISRLU) activation function is proposed, and the ISRLU function is used to replace the implicit layer activation function in the original ELM algorithm. Then, a new bacterial foraging algorithm (BFOA) is applied to optimize the parameters of the optimized ELM forecasting model. After multiple learning and training operations, the optimal parameters are obtained. Finally, we superimpose the output of each IMF and Res training task to get the amount of China's power consumption produced by renewable energy. Some statistical indicators including root mean squard error (RMSE) are applied to compare the accuracy of several intelligent machine forecasting algorithms. We prove that the proposed forecasting model has higher prediction accuracy and achieves faster training speed by an empirical analysis. Finally, the proposed combined forecasting algorithm is applied to predict China's renewable energy terminal power consumption from 2018 to 2030. According to the forecasting results, it is found that China's renewable energy terminal power consumption shows a gradual growth trend, and will exceeded 3300 billion kWh in 2030, which will represent a renewable energy terminal power ratio of about 38% in 2030. Dissolved gas analysis (DGA) based in insulating oil has become a more mature method in the field of transformer fault diagnosis. However, due to the complexity and diversity of fault types, the traditional modeling method based on oil sample analysis is struggling to meet the industrial demand for diagnostic accuracy. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a probabilistic neural network (PNN)-based fault diagnosis model for power transformers and optimizes the smoothing factor of the pattern layer of PNN by the improved gray wolf optimizer (IGWO) to improve the classification accuracy and robustness of PNN. The standard GWO easily falls into the local optimum because the update mechanism is too single. The update strategy proposed in this paper enhances the convergence ability and exploration ability of the algorithm, which greatly alleviates the dilemma that GWO is prone to fall into local optimum when dealing with complex data. In this paper, a reliability analysis of thirteen diagnostic methods is conducted using 555 transformer fault samples collected from Jiangxi Power Supply Company, China. The results show that the diagnostic accuracy of the IGWO-PNN model reaches 99.71%, which is much higher than that of the traditional IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) three-ratio method. Precise regional ionospheric total electron content (TEC) models play a crucial role in correcting ionospheric delays for single-frequency receivers and studying variations in the Earth's space environment. A particle swarm optimization neural network (PSO-NN)-based model for ionospheric TEC over China has been developed using a long-term (2008–2021) ground-based global positioning system (GPS), COSMIC, and Fengyun data under geomagnetic quiet conditions. In this study, a spatial gridding approach is utilized to propose an improved version of the PSO-NN model, named the PSO-NN-GRID. The root-mean-square error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE) of the TECs estimated from the PSO-NN-GRID model on the test data set are 3.614 and 2.257 TECU, respectively, which are 7.5% and 5.5% smaller than those of the PSO-NN model. The improvements of the PSO-NN-GRID model over the PSO-NN model during the equinox, summer, and winter of 2015 are 0.4–22.1%, 0.1–12.8%, and 0.2–26.2%, respectively. Similarly, in 2019, the corresponding improvements are 0.5–13.6%, 0–10.1%, and 0–16.1%, respectively. The performance of the PSO-NN-GRID model is also verified under different solar activity conditions. The results reveal that the RMSEs for the TECs estimated by the PSO-NN-GRID model, with F10.7 values ranging within [0, 80), [80, 100), [100, 130), [130, 160), [160, 190), [190, 220), and [220, +), are, respectively, 1.0%, 2.8%, 4.7%, 5.5%, 10.1%, 9.1%, and 28.4% smaller than those calculated by the PSO-NN model. The accurate measurement of soil moisture content emerges as a critical parameter within the ambit of agricultural irrigation management, wherein the precise prediction of this variable plays an instrumental role in enhancing the efficiency and conservation of agricultural water resources. This study introduces an innovative, cutting-edge hybrid model that ingeniously integrates Gated Recirculation Unit (GRU) and Transformer technologies, meticulously crafted to amplify the precision and reliability of soil moisture content forecasts. Leveraging meteorological and soil moisture datasets amassed from eight monitoring stations in Hebei Province, China, over the period from 2011 to 2018, this investigation thoroughly assesses the model's efficacy against a diverse array of input variables and forecast durations. This assessment is concurrently contrasted with a range of conventional machine learning and deep learning frameworks. The results demonstrate that (1) the GRU–Transformer model exhibits remarkable superiority across various aspects, particularly in short-term projections (1- to 2-day latency). The model's mean square error (MSE) for a 1-day forecast is notably low at 5.22%, reducing further to a significant 2.71%, while the mean coefficient of determination (R2) reaches a high of 89.92%. Despite a gradual increase in predictive error over extended forecast periods, the model consistently maintains robust performance. Moreover, the model shows exceptional versatility in managing different soil depths, notably excelling in predicting moisture levels at greater depths, thereby surpassing its performance in shallower soils. (2) The model's predictive error inversely correlates with the reduction in parameters. Remarkably, with a streamlined set of just six soil moisture content parameters, the model predicts an average MSE of 0.59% and an R2 of 98.86% for a three-day forecast, highlighting its resilience to varied parameter configurations. (3) In juxtaposition with prevalent models such as Support Vector Regression (SVR), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Gradient Boosting Decision Tree (GBDT), XGBoost, Random Forest, and deep learning models like Deep Neural Network (DNN), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), and standalone GRU-branch and Transformer-branch models, the GRU–Transformer framework demonstrates a significant advantage in predicting soil moisture content with enhanced precision for a five-day forecast. Context: YOLO (You Look Only Once) is an algorithm based on deep neural networks with real-time object detection capabilities. This state-of-the-art technology is widely available, mainly due to its speed and precision. Since its conception, YOLO has been applied to detect and recognize traffic signs, pedestrians, traffic lights, vehicles, and so on. Objective: The goal of this research is to systematically analyze the YOLO object detection algorithm, applied to traffic sign detection and recognition systems, from five relevant aspects of this technology: applications, datasets, metrics, hardware, and challenges. Method: This study performs a systematic literature review (SLR) of studies on traffic sign detection and recognition using YOLO published in the years 2016–2022. Results: The search found 115 primary studies relevant to the goal of this research. After analyzing these investigations, the following relevant results were obtained. The most common applications of YOLO in this field are vehicular security and intelligent and autonomous vehicles. The majority of the sign datasets used to train, test, and validate YOLO-based systems are publicly available, with an emphasis on datasets from Germany and China. It has also been discovered that most works present sophisticated detection, classification, and processing speed metrics for traffic sign detection and recognition systems by using the different versions of YOLO. In addition, the most popular desktop data processing hardwares are Nvidia RTX 2080 and Titan Tesla V100 and, in the case of embedded or mobile GPU platforms, Jetson Xavier NX. Finally, seven relevant challenges that these systems face when operating in real road conditions have been identified. With this in mind, research has been reclassified to address these challenges in each case. Conclusions: This SLR is the most relevant and current work in the field of technology development applied to the detection and recognition of traffic signs using YOLO. Effective supply-chain risk assessment is the basis for developing sustainable supply policies, and it has received growing attention in global oil supply system management. Dynamical modeling and data-driven modeling are two main risk assessment technologies that have been applied in crude oil supply networks. Dynamical risk modeling and data-driven risk modeling offer distinct advantages in capturing the complexities and dynamics of the system. Considering their complementary strengths, a hybrid modeling framework combining system dynamics and data-driven neural networks is proposed for risk assessment of crude oil transportation network. Specifically, the system dynamics module is to capture and interpret the underlying dynamics and mechanisms of the transportation network, while the deep neural networks module is to discover the nonlinear patterns and dependencies of risk factors from various inputs. Based on joint training, the hybrid model can ultimately develop the capability of risk prediction with a small amount of data. In addition, it can consider the dynamic nature of crude oil transportation networks to interpret the predicted results of the risk level for decision-makers to make specific risk-mitigating policies. Extensive experiments based on China's scenario have been conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid model, and the results show that our model achieves higher accuracy in risk prediction compared to the current state of the art. Debris flows are a major geological disaster that can seriously threaten human life and physical infrastructures. The main contribution of this paper is the establishment of two–dimensional convolutional neural networks (2D–CNN) models by using SAME padding (S–CNN) and VALID padding (V–CNN) and comparing them with support vector machine (SVM) and artificial neural network (ANN) models, respectively, to predict the spatial probability of debris flows in Jilin Province, China. First, the dataset is randomly divided into a training set (70%) and a validation set (30%), and thirteen influencing factors are selected to build the models. Then, multicollinearity analysis and gain ratio methods are used to quantify the predictive ability of factors. Finally, the area under the receiver operatic characteristic curve (AUC) and statistical methods are utilized to measure the accuracy of the models. The results show that the S–CNN model gets the highest AUC value of 0.901 in the validation set, followed by the SVM model, the V–CNN model, and the ANN model. Three statistical methods also show that the S–CNN model produces minimum errors compared with other models. The S–CNN model is hailed as an important means to improve the accuracy of debris–flow susceptibility mapping and provides a reasonable scientific basis for critical decisions. Sustainability study of the standard wastewater treatment system is the pivotal procedure in the water protection field. In order to better study the sustainability of sewage treatment systems, wastewater treatment system of straw pulp papermaking (WTSPP) and wastewater treatment system of printing and dyeing and papermaking (WTPDP) have been selected to assess the sustainable level in China. Based on the hybrid neural network and emergy framework, WTSPP and WTPDP were considered and analyzed in this paper. Therein, three types of indicators were used to evaluate these two systems, including basic structure emergy indicators (BEI), functional emergy indicators (FEI), and eco-efficiency emergy indicators (EEI). Through the basic neural network model and detailed neural network model design, the iteration paths and algorithm operation diagram of WTSPP and WTPDP were designed and realized in this article. Primary contents include: (1) For WTSPP and WTPDP, nonrenewable resources emergy are both the primary contributor and account for roughly 62.5% and 53.7%, respectively. (2) As the important indicator group, the environmental loading ratio (ELR) is 176 in the WTSPP and 323 in the WTPDP, respectively. Emergy sustainability indicators (ESIs) in the WTSPP and WTPDP, are 0.015 and 0.014, respectively. (3) Depending on fluctuation degrees, WTSPP is better than WTPDP. The maximum fluctuation ranges of WTSPP and WTPDP are (3%, −27%) and (28%, 61%), respectively. (4) All neural network analysis results manifest that the emergy sustainability indicators (ESIs) of WTSPP and WTPDP are [0.0151, 0.011] and [0.0179, 0.0055] in view of a long-term predictive view, respectively. Accurate and timely landslide susceptibility mapping (LSM) is essential to effectively reduce the risk of landslide. In recent years, deep learning has been successfully applied to landslide susceptibility assessment due to the strong ability of fitting. However, in actual applications, the number of labeled samples is usually not sufficient for the training component. In this paper, a deep neural network model based on semi-supervised learning (SSL-DNN) for landslide susceptibility is proposed, which makes full use of a large number of spatial information (unlabeled data) with limited labeled data in the region to train the mode. Taking Jiaohe County in Jilin Province, China as an example, the landslide inventory from 2000 to 2017 was collected and 12 metrological, geographical, and human explanatory factors were compiled. Meanwhile, supervised models such as deep neural network (DNN), support vector machine (SVM), and logistic regression (LR) were implemented for comparison. Then, the landslide susceptibility was plotted and a series of evaluation tools such as class accuracy, predictive rate curves (AUC), and information gain ratio (IGR) were calculated to compare the prediction of models and factors. Experimental results indicate that the proposed SSL-DNN model (AUC = 0.898) outperformed all the comparison models. The application of machine learning (ML) techniques stands as a reliable method for aiding in the diagnosis of complex diseases. Recent studies have related the composition of the gut microbiota to the presence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), but until now, the results have been mostly contradictory. This work proposes using machine learning to study the gut microbiome composition and its role in the early diagnosis of ASD. We applied support vector machines (SVMs), artificial neural networks (ANNs), and random forest (RF) algorithms to classify subjects as neurotypical (NT) or having ASD, using published data on gut microbiome composition. Naive Bayes, k-nearest neighbors, ensemble learning, logistic regression, linear regression, and decision trees were also trained and validated; however, the ones presented showed the best performance and interpretability. All the ML methods were developed using the SAS Viya software platform. The microbiome's composition was determined using 16S rRNA sequencing technology. The application of ML yielded a classification accuracy as high as 90%, with a sensitivity of 96.97% and specificity reaching 85.29%. In the case of the ANN model, no errors occurred when classifying NT subjects from the first dataset, indicating a significant classification outcome compared to traditional tests and data-based approaches. This approach was repeated with two datasets, one from the USA and the other from China, resulting in similar findings. The main predictors in the obtained models differ between the analyzed datasets. The most important predictors identified from the analyzed datasets are Bacteroides, Lachnospira, Anaerobutyricum, and Ruminococcus torques. Notably, among the predictors in each model, there is the presence of bacteria that are usually considered insignificant in the microbiome's composition due to their low relative abundance. This outcome reinforces the conventional understanding of the microbiome's influence on ASD development, where an imbalance in the composition of the microbiota can lead to disrupted host–microbiota homeostasis. Considering that several previous studies focused on the most abundant genera and neglected smaller (and frequently not statistically significant) microbial communities, the impact of such communities has been poorly analyzed. The ML-based models suggest that more research should focus on these less abundant microbes. A novel hypothesis explains the contradictory results in this field and advocates for more in-depth research to be conducted on variables that may not exhibit statistical significance. The obtained results seem to contribute to an explanation of the contradictory findings regarding ASD and its relation with gut microbiota composition. While some research correlates higher ratios of Bacillota/Bacteroidota, others find the opposite. These discrepancies are closely linked to the minority organisms in the microbiome's composition, which may differ between populations but share similar metabolic functions. Cloud recognition is a basic task in ground meteorological observation. It is of great significance to accurately identify cloud types from long-time-series satellite cloud images for improving the reliability and accuracy of weather forecasting. However, different from ground-based cloud images with a small observation range and easy operation, satellite cloud images have a wider cloud coverage area and contain more surface features. Hence, it is difficult to effectively extract the structural shape, area size, contour shape, hue, shadow and texture of clouds through traditional deep learning methods. In order to analyze the regional cloud type characteristics effectively, we construct a China region meteorological satellite cloud image dataset named CRMSCD, which consists of nine cloud types and the clear sky (cloudless). In this paper, we propose a novel neural network model, UATNet, which can realize the pixel-level classification of meteorological satellite cloud images. Our model efficiently integrates the spatial and multi-channel information of clouds. Specifically, several transformer blocks with modified self-attention computation (swin transformer blocks) and patch merging operations are used to build a hierarchical transformer, and spatial displacement is introduced to construct long-distance cross-window connections. In addition, we introduce a Channel Cross fusion with Transformer (CCT) to guide the multi-scale channel fusion, and design an Attention-based Squeeze and Excitation (ASE) to effectively connect the fused multi-scale channel information to the decoder features. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model achieved 82.33% PA, 67.79% MPA, 54.51% MIoU and 70.96% FWIoU on CRMSCD. Compared with the existing models, our method produces more precise segmentation performance, which demonstrates its superiority on meteorological satellite cloud recognition tasks. It is an objective demand for sustainable agricultural development to realize fast and accurate cultivated land quality assessment. In this paper, Tengzhou city (county-scale hilly area: scale A), Shanghe county (county-scale plain area: scale B), and Huang-Huai-Hai region (including large-scale hilly and plain area: scale C and D) were taken as research areas. Through the conversion of evaluation systems, the inversion models at the county-scale were constructed. Then, the image scale conversion was carried out based on the numerical regression method, and the upscaling inversion was realized. The results showed that: (1) the conversion models of evaluation systems (CMES) are Y = 1.021x − 4.989 (CMESA−B), Y = 0.801x + 16.925 (CMESA−C), and Y = 0.959x + 3.458 (CMESC−D); (2) the booting stage is the best inversion phase; (3) the back propagation neural network model based on the combination index group (CI-BPNN) is the best inversion model, with the R2 are 0.723 (modeling set) and 0.722 (verification set). CI-BPNN and CI-BPNN-CMESA−B models are suitable for the hilly and plain areas at the county-scale, and the level area ratio difference is less than 4.87%. Furthermore, (4) the reflectance conversion model of short-wave infrared 2 is cubic, and the rest are quadratic. CI-BPNN-CMESA−C and CI-BPNN-CMESA−C-CMESC−D models realized upscaling inversion in the hilly and plain areas, with the maximum level area ratio difference being 1.60%. Additionally, (5) the wheat field quality has improved steadily since 2001 in the Huang-Huai-Hai region. Landslides pose a constant threat to the lives and property of mountain people and may also cause geomorphological destruction such as soil and water loss, vegetation destruction, and land cover change. Landslide susceptibility assessment (LSA) is a key component of landslide risk evaluation. There are many related studies, but few analyses and comparisons of models for optimization. This paper aims to introduce the Tree-structured Parzen Estimator (TPE) algorithm for hyperparameter optimization of three typical neural network models for LSA in Shuicheng County, China, as an example, and to compare the differences of predictive ability among the models in order to achieve higher application performance. First, 17 influencing factors of landslide multiple data sources were selected for spatial prediction, hybrid ensemble oversampling and undersampling techniques were used to address the imbalanced sample and small sample size problem, and the samples were randomly divided into a training set and validation set. Second, deep neural network (DNN), recurrent neural network (RNN), and convolutional neural network (CNN) models were adopted to predict the regional landslides susceptibility, and the TPE algorithm was used to optimize the hyperparameters respectively to improve the assessment capacity. Finally, to compare the differences and optimization effects of these models, several objective measures were applied for validation. The results show that the high-susceptibility regions mostly distributed in bands along fault zones, where the lithology is mostly claystone, sandstone, and basalt. The DNN, RNN, and CNN models all perform well in LSA, especially the RNN model. The TPE optimization significantly improves the accuracy of the DNN and CNN (3.92% and 1.52%, respectively), but does not improve the performance of the RNN. In summary, our proposed RNN model and TPE-optimized DNN and CNN model have robust predictive capability for landslide susceptibility in the study area and can also be applied to other areas containing similar geological conditions. The number of precipitation products at the global scale has increased rapidly, and the accuracy of these products directly affects the accuracy of hydro-meteorological simulation and forecast. Therefore, the applicability of these precipitation products should be comprehensively evaluated to improve their application in hydrometeorology. This paper evaluated the performances of six widely used precipitation products in southwest China by quantitative assessment and contingency assessment. The precipitation products were Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission Multi-satellite Precipitation Analysis 3B42 version 7 (TRMM 3B42 V7), Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP MVK), Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for GPM final run (GPM IMERG Final), Precipitation Estimation from Remotely Sensed Information using Artificial Neural Network—Climate Data Record (PERSIANN-CDR), Climate Hazards Infrared Precipitation with Stations version 2.0 (CHIRPS V2.0), and the Global Land Data Assimilation System version 2.0 (GLDAS V2.0). From the above six products, the daily-scale precipitation data from 2001 to 2019 were chosen to compare with the measured data of the rain gauge, and the data from the gauges were classified by river basin and elevation. All precipitation products and measured data were evaluated by statistical indicators. Results showed that (1) GPM IMERG Final and CHIRPS V2.0 performed well in the Yarlung Zangbo River (YZ) basin, while GPM IMERG Final and GLDAS V2.0 performed well in the Lantsang River (LS), Nujiang River (NJ), Yangtze River (YT), and Yellow River (YL) basins; (2) in the upper and middle reaches of the YZ basin, GPM IMERG Final and CHIRPS V2.0 were outstanding in all evaluated products; downstream of the YZ basin, all six products performed well; and upstream of the LS and NJ, GPM IMERG Final, TRMM 3B42 V7, CHIRPS V2.0, and GLDAS V2.0 can be recommended as a substitute for measured data; and (3) GPM IMERG Final and GLDAS V2.0 can be seen as substitutes for measured data when elevation is below 4000 m. As one of the most devastating disasters to pine forests, pine wilt disease (PWD) has caused tremendous ecological and economic losses in China. An effective way to prevent large-scale PWD outbreaks is to detect and remove the damaged pine trees at the early stage of PWD infection. However, early infected pine trees do not show obvious changes in morphology or color in the visible wavelength range, making early detection of PWD tricky. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based hyperspectral imagery (HI) has great potential for early detection of PWD. However, the commonly used methods, such as the two-dimensional convolutional neural network (2D-CNN), fail to simultaneously extract and fully utilize the spatial and spectral information, whereas the three-dimensional convolutional neural network (3D-CNN) is able to collect this information from raw hyperspectral data. In this paper, we applied the residual block to 3D-CNN and constructed a 3D-Res CNN model, the performance of which was then compared with that of 3D-CNN, 2D-CNN, and 2D-Res CNN in identifying PWD-infected pine trees from the hyperspectral images. The 3D-Res CNN model outperformed the other models, achieving an overall accuracy (OA) of 88.11% and an accuracy of 72.86% for detecting early infected pine trees (EIPs). Using only 20% of the training samples, the OA and EIP accuracy of 3D-Res CNN can still achieve 81.06% and 51.97%, which is superior to the state-of-the-art method in the early detection of PWD based on hyperspectral images. Collectively, 3D-Res CNN was more accurate and effective in early detection of PWD. In conclusion, 3D-Res CNN is proposed for early detection of PWD in this paper, making the prediction and control of PWD more accurate and effective. In this paper, a deep learning long-short-term memory (LSTM) method is applied to the forecasting of the critical frequency of the ionosphere F2 layer (foF2). Hourly values of foF2 from 10 ionospheric stations in China and Australia (based on availability) from 2006 to 2019 are used for training and verifying. While 2015 and 2019 are exclusive for verifying the forecasting accuracy. The inputs of the LSTM model are sequential data for the previous values, which include local time (LT), day number, solar zenith angle, the sunspot number (SSN), the daily F10.7 solar flux, geomagnetic the Ap and Kp indices, geographic coordinates, neutral winds, and the observed value of foF2 at the previous moment. To evaluate the forecasting ability of the deep learning LSTM model, two different neural network forecasting models: a back-propagation neural network (BPNN) and a genetic algorithm optimized backpropagation neural network (GABP) were established for comparative analysis. The foF2 parameters were forecasted under geomagnetic quiet and geomagnetic disturbed conditions during solar activity maximum (2015) and minimum (2019), respectively. The forecasting results of these models are compared with those of the international reference ionosphere model (IRI2016) and the measurements. The diurnal and seasonal variations of foF2 for the 4 models were compared and analyzed from 8 selected verification stations. The forecasting results reveal that the deep learning LSTM model presents the optimal performance of all models in forecasting the time series of foF2, while the IRI2016 model has the poorest forecasting performance, and the BPNN model and GABP model are between two of them.
