A case study of a 25-year women with history of relapsing fever and dyspnea is presented.

A 64-year-old male was seen as an outpatient in the hematology division of a hospital because of anemia and a low serum level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. Anatomical diagnosis suggests lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma with Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia and biclonal gammopathy, while the falsely low serum HDL cholesterol result was due to the presence of a paraprotein.

A case study of a 22-year-old woman, suffering from low back and leg pain who was diagnosed with sick cell anemia at six years of age, is presented. The woman had fallen backwards while ice-skating, six days before she was admitted in the hospital and was declared dead 23 hours later.

A 60-year-old man who developed fever, tremors, and sweating was diagnosed with both Lyme disease and babesiosis. These two parasitic infections are transmitted by the same tick. He lived in a wooded area north of Boston and had received several tick bites a month or two before his symptoms began. He was successfully treated with antibiotics.

A 50-year-old man with fever and joint pain was diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus. This case is unusual because only 10% of people with SLE are men and this patient did not take any medications that usually cause SLE in middle-aged men.
