The article examines a study on complication rates after left- versus right-sided carotid endarterectomy (CE). According to studies, the rate of postoperative complications may be affected by the side on which CE is performed. The link between side of surgery and outcomes are explored though an analysis of individual-level data from 3 large studies and systematic review and meta-analysis of additional published descriptions of outcomes by side. The research suggests that left-sided procedure is a risk factor for stroke and death in CE.
