Abstract

An extreme workout to generate exercise induced muscle damage with low metabolic cost and low cardiovascular stress that is used in a new way and the mechanism behind the leukocytosis after high-force exercise is described. The degree of exercise-induced muscle damage is reflected by the magnitude of the subsequent delayed leukocytosis.

Abstract

Research on acute maximal exercise has determined similarities and differences between youth and the elderly in their physiological responses. Although blood leukocyte response during exercise was similar in both younger and older test subjects, older participants showed less resiliency in leukocytosis than their younger counterparts. Older subjects also had different lympho-proliferative responses.
