- Abstract
Enfermedades Oculares Frecuentes ('Common Ocular Diseases') concisely touches upon ocular pathologies that currently affect the general population. The book is divided into 13 chapters, each examining a specific condition. Firstly, the opening chapters present basic concepts of anatomy, histology, and ocular physiology. Afterward, we present different sections regarding orbital diseases, illnesses on the eyelids, tear ducts and other conditions related to the anterior segment, like cataracts and keratoconus. The book makes special emphasis in the description and course of treatment for the two most relevant causes of irreversible blindness in patients: glaucoma and retinal vascular diseases, like diabetic retinopathy. Other chapters delve into conditions like strabismus, ametropias and uveitis; and the last chapter offers a brief summary of the primary emergencies that general physicians may face, including practical advice for initial care.
