As an important fat-soluble vitamin, vitamin A is often stored in animal tissues such as liver and intestine in the form of retinol. Vitamin A has a wide range of biological functions, such as regulating body proliferation and development, regulating immune expression and promoting mucosal health growth. In this paper, we reviewed the progress of vitamin A absorption and metabolism, cell proliferation and differentiation, intestinal barrier function and immune response, as well as its application in livestock and poultry production, in order to provide theoretical basis for further understanding the regulation mechanism of vitamin A on animal growth and health.
