Media plays a significant role in the representation of social and cultural scenarios, highlighting discrimination based on ethnicity, social status, and sex. These media representations play an influential role in maintaining social constructs of binary identities, such as black or white, male or female, and middle or lower class. This study tends to explore the diversification of social and racial hierarchies portrayed in films with a focus on people categorized as 'other'. In contrast to the set pattern, the films examined in this study display multiple perspectives about images of the black people and white women and do not put them in stereotypical categories. The selected films have subverted the so-called established ideas about African-Americans being uncivilized, uneducated, and unworthy and show that all individuals regardless of the established stereotypes can achieve their dreams. This study of a one-novel corpus is an attempt to find out how women and men characters are described differently or similarly in relation to two body parts i.e. „eyes" and „face". The selected text is The Mirror of Beauty, a novel written by Shamsur Rahman Faruqi and published in 2014. The study follows a mixed method approach where qualitative analysis is based on Mills' (1995) feminist stylistic approach and quantitative analysis is carried on with the help of Wmatrix, a corpus linguistics tool. The study shows that women's body parts are fragmented to highlight their sexuality and physical attractiveness while men's anatomical parts are used to highlight their physical strength, skills and personality traits. The use of English as a second language and its development into different varieties throughout the world has opened new areas of exploration for the linguists and researchers. Different varieties of English have been analyzed with reference to different linguistic features. One of these less investigated features is the use of shortened forms developed from local socio-cultural, and political context. The present work is an investigation of Pakistani English i.e. a South Asian variety of English with reference to the use of such linguistic items in print media. To collect sample for the discussion, news stories of a Pakistani English newspaper, the Daily Dawn were utilized. Schneider's (2007) model of postcolonial Englishes has been integrated into the study as PakE falls in this category. The study has found that PakE of print media makes an innovative use of shortened forms deeply rooted in local context. The study concludes with the idea that PakE has evolved itself into a distinct variety and the role of media is crucial in recognition of Pakistani English as a distinct variety of South Asian English. This paper attempts to explore the ways and means that are employed by Sidhwa to reflect on the lives of Pakistani women through her heroines. Sidhwa's heroines undergo a specific patter of resistance and resilience by first surrendering to the existing norms and traditions but later on develop resistance to them and employ every possible mode of resistance and emerge as resilient women. Sidhwa's heroines are portrayed waging this struggle in a patriarchal set up of Pakistan where tradition and custom controls the body and movement of women and so undermines their socio-economic status. The struggle of women in Pakistani society is demanding and so needs to be explored as to how Pakistani women, as portrayed by Sidhwa, suffer physically and psychologically. This struggle of Pakistani women portrayed by Sidhwa aligns her with the feminist struggle all around the postcolonial world. This study critically analyses the selected passages of the text of Sidhwa's three novels titled The Pakistani Bride, Ice Candy Man and An American Bratand discovers the mode employed by Sidhwa to show resistance of women similar to those portrayed in postcolonial literature as suggested by Ashcroft.
