Abstract

The article investigates the impact of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) on the 1988 Agreement on Trade and Commercial and Economic Cooperation between the European Economic Community (EEC) and Hungary. The particularities of the Hungarian economic system and its level of economic development played a major role in the drawing up of the terms of the agreement. The bilateral agreement between the EEC and Hungary would not have been as far-reaching had there not been the GATT link between the two.
