In a twenty five-year-old female patient, we observed bilateral lens dislocation into the vitreous body that occurred spontaneously as a result of Marfan's syndrome and megalocornea, when she was 8 years old. Corneal diameters were 14 mm in the right eye and 13.5 mm in the left eye. Slit-lamp examination revealed miosis and iridodonesis. Fundus examination revealed bilateral inferior lens dislocation into the vitreous body. There was no lens induced posterior uveitis in either eye. This patient demonstrated that lens dislocation into the vitreous body can be present for a long time without causing any intraocular inflammation.

Aims: This study identifies the various types of ocular injuries sustained after blunt trauma with a paintball fired from a paintball gun., Methods: We report two patients who sustained injury to an eye after being shot with a paintball and review similar cases presented in the world literature. The type of injury sustained and the final visual acuity obtained after a paintball hit to the eye are examined., Results: The two boys presented were hit in the eye with a paintball resulting in lens subluxation, hyphema formation, and angle recession. Cataract extraction was required in both cases. One boy also had an optic neuropathy and a choroidal rupture. A review of the literature reveals a variety of injuries occur after a paintball hit to the eye. In some of the cases, the damage to the eye has led to loss of vision and at times loss of the eye., Conclusions: Paintball guns can cause devastating ocular injuries. Wearing protective eye and face gear during this game is essential. We recommend that an anti-fog face mask with a one-piece polycarbonate eye shield be worn by those participating in paintball games.

The pathogenesis of lens-induced uveitis and phacolytic glaucoma is still not fully understood. The authors report a case of a 62-year-old white female, with bilateral lens dislocation into the vitreous, who presented clinical and pathological features of phacolytic glaucoma in the left eye. The ultrastructural study of aqueous and vitreous aspirates showed lenticular fragments and macrophages with lipofuscin granules and phagocytic vacuoles containing lens proteins. Immunocytochemistry revealed foamy macrophages immunoreactive for CD68 and HLA-DR. One year later the right eye disclosed a mild anterior granulomatous uveitis with corneal mutton-fat keratic precipitates that remained unchanged in the course of sixteen months follow-up without further treatment. These findings corroborate the possibility that, besides their mechanical and inflammatory roles in the impairment of the outflow system of the (exciting) left eye, phacolytic macrophages might also have been involved in the afferent phase of the mild chronic uveitis of the (fellow) right eye.

The use of the Oxford retro-illumination camera in documenting cataract is now well established. Repeatability has been shown to be good. This article describes its use in photographing the anterior segment of the eye.

Intraocular implantation of an iris-bridge or lobster-claw lens was performed on a rabbit eye. The incisions were closed with stainless steel-vanadium sutures. Two months after implantation loosening at one side of the connection between lens and iris was noted, which resulted in long-term intermittent touch of the corneal endothelium. The reaction of the endothelium to the corneal sutures and the contact area of artificial lens and corneal endothelium were studied by SEM.
