Objectives: The primary aim of this article is to share the outcomes of the project titled "Historical Development of Psychiatric Nursing in Türkiye: A Documentary Film Project", executed between 2018 and 2021, and the experiences encountered throughout its duration. Methods: The significance of understanding the historical development of a profession immensely benefits its members and the profession as a whole. Prevailing knowledge about nursing primarily revolves around events tailored for educational entities aimed at achieving professional recognition. Recognizing the necessity, this project sought to capture firsthand accounts detailing the evolution of psychiatric nursing in Türkiye. For this project, the progression of psychiatric nursing was detailed through participants' experiences. The participants were chosen using the purpose sampling method, culminating in a cohort of 25 academic psychiatric nurses. Data collection methods included face-to-face interviews and online video recordings. Results: The obtained recordings were meticulously analyzed by the research team and subsequently utilized in various mediums, including a documentary film, a booklet, an article, and presentations. These products provide viewers and readers with a direct glimpse into the foundational values, philosophies, principles, and practices introduced by the trailblazers of psychiatric nursing in Türkiye. Conclusion: It is emphasized that similar research endeavors be undertaken across different nursing domains. Objective: It has been shown that the presence of fragmented QRS (fQRS) is associated with poor prognosis in many cardiovascular diseases and in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). However, no study has shown an association with the absolute risk score of sudden cardiac death. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between QRS and the predicted risk score of sudden cardiac death at 5 years (HCM Risk-SCD) in HCM patients. Methods: In total, 115 consecutive HCM patients were included in this prospective observational study. The patients were divided into two groups according to the presence [fQRS(+) group (n=65)] or absence [fQRS(-) group (n=50)] of fQRS on a 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG). Results: The HCM Risk-SCD (%) HCM Risk-SCD (>6%) values and some echocardiographic parameters, including ventricular extrasystole, ventricular tachycardia, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, implantable cardioverter defibrillator implantation, appropriate shock, and heart failure at the time of admission, were significantly higher in the fQRS(+) group than in the fQRS(-) group (all p<0.05). Both univariate and multivariate analyses revealed fQRS and New York Heart Association (NYHA) class as independent predictors of HCM Risk-SCD. In a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, an HCM Risk-SCD value of >4 was identified as an effective cut-off point in fQRS for HCM. An HCM Risk-SCD value of >4 yielded a sensitivity of 77% and a specificity of 76%. Conclusion: fQRS is determined to be an independent high-risk indicator of HCM Risk-SCD. Objective: We evaluated autonomic behavior by examining heart rate variability (HRV) in the time domain and frequency domain in pediatric patients who underwent transcatheter closure of atrial septal defect (ASD). Methods: A prospective study design was used. Holter ECG was performed in a control group of 30 healthy subjects and a group of 47 patients who underwent transcatheter ASD closure. ECG was taken one day before, one day after, and six months after the procedure to evaluate changes in the time domain [SDNN, rMSSD, NN, pNN50(%), and SDANN] and frequency domain (VLF, LF, HF, VHF, and LF/HF) in the patient group. Student's t-test was used to evaluate changes prior to and after the procedure. Results: There were 28 females (60%) in the patient group and 21 females (70%) in the control group. The mean age and weight of the participants in the patient group were 9.61±4.72 years and 32.40±19.60 kg, respectively; the mean age and weight of the control subjects were 10.43±5.31 years and 32.83±13.00 kg, respectively. In both the time domain and frequency domain analyses, the patient group values were found to be lower than those in the control group prior to the procedure; the values in the patient group were found to approach the values in the control group following the procedure. By the sixth month, the values in the patient group reached the control levels with no statistically significant difference (SDNN: 145±0.84, 137.50±42.50; rMSSD: 72.18±48.22, 58.14±28.49; SDANN: 125.13±13.50, 122.40±41.06; VLF: 112.85±29.07, 114.41±98.39; LF: 50.40±24.09, 45.69±15.13; HF: 39.28±19.86, 44.29±13.14; VHF: 10.29±4.24, 9.99±6.47; LF/HF: 1.90±1.44, 1.24±0.81; p>0.05). Conclusion: The transcatheter closure of secundum ASDs was found to have a positive effect on HRV. Consequently, it may contribute to reduced mortality and morbidity. We can conclude that in children, HRV recovers approximately six months after transcatheter ASD closure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of zoledronic acid (ZA), as a matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor, on neointimal hyperplasia in rabbit carotid anastomosis model. Methods: New Zealand male rabbits were divided into two groups as placebo and treatment groups in this experimental study. After anesthesia, the right carotid artery of each rabbit was end-to-end anastomosed with an 8/0 polypropylene suture. Left carotid artery was kept as control without any operation. Placebo group (n=6) received phosphate buffered saline (PBS) (0.5mL/kg/day/s.c.) for 28 days postoperatively, whereas ZA group (n=6) received ZA (100 μg/kg/day/s.c.) for the same period. After sacrification, the anastomosed and control arteries were isolated. Morphometric and immunohistochemical examinations were performed. Statistical analyses of morphometric and immunohistochemical data were performed using two-way ANOVA and Chi-square test respectively. Results: In PBS group, vascular injury in the anastomosed artery significantly increased the intimal area (anastomosed: 112.51±61.18 μm2*1000 vs. control: 22.62±4.26μm2*1000, p<0.01) and intima/media index (anastomosed: 0.347±0.29 vs. control: 0.075±0.01, p<0.05) compared to control artery. ZA significantly reduced the intimal area (39.29±18.21 μm2*1000 , p<0.01) and intima/media index (0.112±0.07, p<0.05) compared to PBS group. Additionally, α-smooth muscle actin immunopositivity was found significantly decreased in anastomosed arteries from ZA group (ZA: 2.33±0.52 vs. PBS: 3.50±0.5, p<0.05). Moreover, intensive gelatinase (MMP-2 and MMP-9) immunoreactivities were clearly seen in anastomosed arteries compared to control arteries from PBS group. ZA apparently decreased immunopositivities for gelatinases in anastomosed arteries. Conclusion: ZA might be a promising agent for prevention of neointimal hyperplasia, which is the most significant cause of graft failures in late postoperative period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents a case study of a 75-year-old female patient with a history of hypertension and coronary artery disease (CAD). He was given valve placement where a stent was implanted in his left anterior descending artery. The article discusses transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) as a therapeutic option for patients with symptomatic, degenerative aortic stenosis (AS).

The article discusses a study which assessed the effect of high altitude, low atmospheric pressure, acceleration, duration of flight and differences of flight conditions on the electrocardiograms (ECG) of jet and helicopter pilots. It was found that jet pilots had the lowest basal heart rate and the helicopter pilots had the second lowest levels. It was also found that the echocardiographic parameters of pilots.

The article presents the case a 70-year-old female with history of hypertension who was admitted after complaining of chest pain that related with exercise. Coronary angiography showed the patient have multiple septal coronary cameral fistulas that may cause myocardial ischemia. Patient outcome is clearly stated in the article.

The article presents the case of a 57-year-old male patient with pulmonary embolism and biatrial thrombus who was successfully treated with intravenous thrombolytic therapy.

The article provides information on cure of patients affected with artery occlusive disease such as stenosis. External iliac arteries, percutaneous balloon dilatation of the left common arteries and implantation of transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve helps in cure of this disease. General anesthesia has been considered as safe and comfortable management of disease as it reduces the risk of hemodynamic instability.

The article presents a case study of an 86 year old female with medical history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension and coronary artery disease. Echocardiography performed revealed aortic stenosis. Computed tomography was used to measure the distance between annulus and coronary artery ostia. After the deployment of valve, he developed ventricular fibrillation. Finally angiography was performed.

A letter to the editor is presented related to the use of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) as an alternative therapy to surgical aortic valve replacement (AVR) in patients with severe aortic stenosis.

The article offers information on a study on acceleration forces such as + Gz during flight of jet pilots in military aviation. it informs that the G force in jet pilots make their respiratory rate and heart rate susceptible to increases in changes in the atmospheric pressure since they are exposed to conditions such as high altitude, low atmospheric pressure and acceleration. It was found in the study that anatomic structure is not affected by the long-term severe + Gz exposure.
