Summary. Berkeley's twenty agaric records for Zanzibar are revised and two new combinations Leucoagaricus rhodocephalus and Galerina periniana are proposed. In 1885, Berkeley, at the age of eighty-four, published a brief account of a collection of fungi sent to him from Zanzibar by his daughter, Miss Ruth Berkeley. These were mostly species of Agaricales which were collected one year earlier, probably in and around Zanzibar township. Twenty agaric species were listed of which ten were described as new and the rest assigned to European taxa. Although this was one of the very few papers dealing with East African fungi, the list has been largely overlooked, except for the description of Agaricus trisulphuratus Berk., which is now known to be common and widespread throughout tropical Africa. The very brief diagnoses provided by Berkeley have made a revision based on modern taxonomic criteria necessary. Most of the specimens were accompanied by a watercolour sketch so that it is sometimes possible to supply additional information about the appearance of the fruitbodies as well as the micro-characters. In a few cases no material is preserved and the record is represented only by a sketch. As the short account by Berkeley is little known and not readily available, in the present work each individual revision is prefaced with the original description. The species are arranged in the order of original publication. I. Agaricus missionis Berk. in Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist. V, 15: 384 (1885). Lepiota missionis (Berk.) Sacc., Syll. Fung. 5: 55 (1887).
