Abstract

Here, Sabrina Ebbersmeyer draws on various historical evidence, including Elisabeth's correspondence with Constantijn Huygens, to support this interpretation of Elisabeth as a philosopher and polymath. The first section, on Elisabeth's intellectual context, begins in chapter 2 with a reconstruction of Elisabeth's academic and political training at Prinsenhof in Leiden.
