In this paper, we give a new characterization of M-fuzzifying span mappings defined by M-fuzzifying rank functions. Then we research the relations between M-fuzzifying span mappings and other M-fuzzifying mappings on M-fuzzifying matroid, and characterize the M-fuzzifying coindependent, nonspan and hyperplane mappings. In this paper, the concept of M-fuzzifying geodesic interval operators is introduced in M-fuzzifying metric spaces. It is a generalization of geodesic interval operators in metric spaces. And an M-fuzzifying geometric characterization of M-fuzzifying geodesic interval operators is obtained. Neural network ensemble can significantly improve the generalization ability of neural network based systems. However, its comprehensibility is even worse than that of a single neural network because it comprises a collection of individual neural networks. In this paper, an approach named REFNE is proposed to improve the comprehensibility of trained neural network ensembles that perform classification tasks. REFNE utilizes the trained ensembles to generate instances and then extracts symbolic rules from those instances. It gracefully breaks the ties made by individual neural networks in prediction. It also employs specific discretization scheme, rule form, and fidelity evaluation mechanism. Experiments show that with different configurations, REFNE can extract rules with good fidelity that well explain the function of trained neural network ensembles, or rules with strong generalization ability that are even better than the trained neural network ensembles in prediction. Abstract: The feasibility of photcatalytic degradation of X[sub 3B] azo dye by TiO[sub 2]/beads photocatalyst was studied. The effects of parameters such as the amount of TiO[sub 2]/beads, airflow, as well as the concentrations of H[sub 2]O[sub 2], Fe[sup 3+], Mg[sup 2+] and Na[sup +] on the photocatalytic degradation of X[sub 3B] azo dye were also studied. The results showed that 25 mg/dm³ X[sub 3B] azo dye can be photocatalytically degraded completely by 30 min illumination with a 375W medium pressure mercury lamp. Adding a small amount of H[sub 2]O[sub 2] or Fe[sup 3+], the efficiencies of photocatalytic degradation of X[sub 3B] azo dye were increased rapidly. The mechanisms of the reaction and the role of the additives were also investigated. After 120 hours TiO[sub 2]/beads showed no significant loss of the photocatalytic activity. Recent studies have shown that Beclin 1, a key regulator of autophagic process, is frequently downregulated and may serve as an independent prognostic biomarker for nonsmall cell lung cancer. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying its downregulation remain poorly understood. The signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (Stat3) is a transcription factor which plays a crucial role for multiple tumor growth and progression. Here, we demonstrate that Beclin 1 is a direct transcriptional target of Stat3 in lung cancer cells. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) treatment or transfection of a constitutively activated Stat3 in AGS and NCI-H1650 cells inhibited Beclin 1 expression. At the molecular level, we further revealed that Stat3 could directly bind to the promoter region of Beclin 1 and repressed its transcription through recruiting histone deacetylase 3 (HDAC3). Collectively, our results suggest that the activated Stat3 may represent an important mechanism for Beclin 1 downregulation in nonsmall cell lung cancer development.
