Many automobile components and machine parts can be fabricated using the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) process with materials such as Polylactic Acid (PLA), Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (PET-G), and polymeric composite materials (e.g., PLA with carbon fiber, PLA with glass fiber). In this study, a new polymeric composite material was fabricated using Polylactic Acid and natural flax fiber was analysed for tensile stress, elongation, and impact load resistance using Taguchi Analysis. This analysis optimized the printing parameters, including layer thickness (0.15, 0.25, 0.35 mm), nozzle movement speed (80, 100, 120 mm s ^−1 ), filling structure (Lines - a, Triangular - b, and Octet - c), and occupancy rate (20%, 40%, 60%). The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards for tensile strength (ASTM D638) and impact strength (ASTM D256) were used for evaluation. As a result, layer thickness was found to be the most effective variable for improving tensile characteristics, compared to extruder temperature, occupancy rate, or filling structure pattern. Mechanical properties including a layer thickness of 0.25 mm, an occupancy ratio of 20% for the bottom of the 2nd layer and 40% for the top of the 4th layer, triangular and octet filling structures, a nozzle speed of 100 mm s ^−1 , and an extruder temperature of 200 °C are considered the most appropriate parameters for producing automotive parts in Three Dimensional (3D) Printing. Due to its tensile properties and impact strength resistance, these settings can be utilized in potential application in a wide variety of machine parts and vehicle components.

Zinc oxide nanostructures (ZnO NSs) are one of the most versatile and promising metal oxides having significant importance in biomedical fields, especially for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. ZnO possesses unique physio-chemical and biological properties such as photo-chemical stability, corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, biocompatibility, higher targeting capability, and ROS-triggered cytotoxicity. These ZnO NSs have enhanced potential for various biomedical applications such as cancer therapy, drug delivery, bioimaging, tissue engineering, etc. Furthermore, ZnO possesses excellent luminescent properties that make it useful for bioimaging and image-guided targeted drug delivery, thereby reducing the unwanted side effects of chemotherapeutic agents. Besides, these characteristics, enhanced permeability and retention effect, electrostatic interaction, ROS production, and pH-dependent dissolution of ZnO also make it potential aspirant as therapeutic that are suggested as key parameters for cytotoxic and cell death mechanisms via apoptosis, autophagy, and mitophagy mechanisms. Here, the recent progress and advances of ZnO NSs in bioimaging, drug delivery, and tissue engineering are discussed along with the advantages, limitations, and future advancement for biological applications. Positioning of colloidal quantum dots (QDs) by nanoholes is applicable to fabricating quantum devices such as quantum circuits. A silica coating technique that facilitates the positioning manages the effective size of QDs while preserving the quantum state inside. In the reverse micelle method, which is commonly used for the silica coating, optical properties deteriorate due to the exposure of QD surface to moisture within the reverse micelle. We studied a thin silica coating on the surface of PbS QDs by pyrolyzing tetraethyl orthosilicate in an organic solvent before forming a thick silica shell by the reverse micelle method. A salient effect of strong confinement, especially when quasi one-dimensional, is to drastically alter the phase behavior and concomitantly the physico-chemical properties of a substance encountered in the bulk. The ground state phase diagram of dipolar hard spheres of diameter d as a function of the pore opening , with D being the cylinder diameter of the confining pore, is investigated theoretically. Whereas finding the densest configurations with hard spheres would be a purely geometrical problem, the situation becomes much more intricate with long-ranged anisotropic interactions. As a major finding, long pores prohibit chain undulation (helicity) and wall-contact–free (floating) linear chain bundles emerge. Objective. A significant challenge in surface electromyography (EMG) is the accurate identification of onset and offset of muscle activation while maintaining high real-time performance. Teagerâ€"Kaiser energy operator (TKEO) is widely used in muscle activity monitoring systems because of its computational simplicity and strong real-time performance. However, in contrast to TKEO ontology, few studies have examined how well the energy operator variants from multiple fields perform in conditioning EMG signals. This paper aims to investigate the role of the energy operator and its variants in EMG change point detection by a threshold detector. Approach. To compare the stability and accuracy of TKEO and its variants for EMG change point detection, the EMG data of extensor carpi radialis longus and flexor carpi radialis were acquired from twenty participants operating a controller under normal and disturbed conditions, and EMG change point detection was performed by four energy operators and their rectified versions. Main results. Based on the ‘standard’ change points collected by the controller, the detection results were evaluated by three evaluation indexes: detection rate, F 1 Score, and accuracy. The experimental results show that the multiresolution energy operator and the TKEO with rectified (abs-TKEO) are more suitable for EMG change point detection. Significance. This paper compared the effect of the energy operator and its variants on a threshold-based EMG change point detector. The experimental results in this paper can provide a reference for the selection of EMG signal conditioning methods to improve the detection performance of the EMG change point detector. Carbon dots (CDs) endowed with outstanding physico-chemical characteristics expeditiously garnered tremendous popularity in the scientific community. CDs can be synthesized from a variety of natural resources and can replace metal semiconductor quantum dots in the range of applications such as bio-imaging, sensing and catalysis. Herein, CDs are green synthesized from Beta vulgaris via a single step hydrothermal approach (b-CDs). The synthesized carbon dots are characterized using UVâ€"visible spectrophotometry, Fluorescence spectroscopy, High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), x-ray diffraction technique (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. The b-CDs hence developed exhibited the signature ‘excitation-dependent fluorescence emission’ with its most intense emission in the green region. The quantum yield for the b-CDs obtained by this synthetic approach evinced an appreciable value of 11.6%. The antioxidant property of b-CDs are evaluated using 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay to obtain a maximum scavenging activity of 94.5% at a concentration of 1000 ÎĽ g mlâˆ'1 and its underlying mechanisms are illustrated. The blood compatibility of b-CDs are assessed using haemolysis assay and the cytotoxicity evaluated using MTT assay shows significant cell growth-inhibition against the human breast cancer (MCF-7) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) cell lines. In this work we adapt rare-earth-ion-doped NaYF4 nanoparticles coated with a silicon oxide shell (NaYF4:20%Yb,0.2%Tm@SiO2) for biological and medical applications (for example, imaging of cancer cells and therapy at the nano level). The wide upconversion emission range under 980 nm excitation allows one to use the nanoparticles for cancer cell (4T1) photodynamic therapy (PDT) without a photosensitizer. The reactive oxygen species (ROS) are generated by Tm/Yb ion upconversion emission (blue and UV light). The in vitro PDT was tested on 4T1 cells incubated with NaYF4:20%Yb,0.2%Tm@SiO2 nanoparticles and irradiated with NIR light. After 24 h, cell viability decreased to below 10%, demonstrating very good treatment efficiency. High modification susceptibility of the SiO2 shell allows for attachment of biological molecules (specific antibodies). In this work we attached the anti-human IgG antibody to silane-PEG-NHS-modified NaYF4:20%Yb,0.2%Tm@SiO2 nanoparticles and a specifically marked membrane model by bio-conjugation. Thus, it was possible to perform a selective search (a high-quality optical method with a very low-level organic background) and eventually damage the targeted cancer cells. A facile synthesis method is introduced how to prepare magnetically active ultraviolet emitting manganese ions incorporated into ZnSxSe1−x colloidal quantum dot (nanoalloy) at 110 °C in aqueous solutions. The reaction time is the main factor to control the hydrodynamic size from 3 to 10 nm and the precursor ratio is significant to tune the alloy composition. ZnS shell layer on the ZnSxSe1−x core was grown to passivate environmental effects. The nanoalloy has ultraviolet emission at 380 nm having a lifetime of 80 ns and 7% quantum yield. The incorporation of Mn2+ ions into the nanoalloys induced magnetic activity but did not modify the structure and photophysical properties of the nanoalloys. Colloidal and powdery samples were prepared and analyzed by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. In the colloidal dispersions, EPR spectra showed hyperfine line splitting regardless of the Mn2+ ion fractions, up to 6%, indicating that Mn2+ ions incorporated into the nanoalloys were isolated. EPR signals of the powdery samples were broadened when the fraction of Mn2+ ions was higher than 0.1%. The EPR spectra were simulated to reveal the locations and interactions of Mn2+ ions. The simulations suggest that the Mn2+ ions are located on the nanoalloy surfaces. These findings infer that the magnetic dipolar interactions are regulated by the initial mole ratio of Mn/Zn and the physical state of the nanoalloys adjusted by preparation methods. The design and development of drug-delivery nanocarriers with high loading capacity, excellent biocompatibility, targeting ability and controllability have been the ultimate goal of the biomedical research community. In this work, we have reported the synthesis and characterization of novel and smart thermoresponsive polymer coated and Fe3O4 embedded hollow mesoporous silica (HmSiO2) based multifunctional superparamagnetic nanocarriers for the delivery of doxorubicin (Dox) for cancer treatment. P(NIPAM-MAm) coated and Fe3O4 nanoparticle (NP) embedded hollow mesoporous silica nanocomposite (HmSiO2-F-P(NIPAM-MAm)) was prepared by the in situ polymerization of NIPAM and MAm monomers on the surface of hollow mesoporous silica NPs (HmSiO2) in the presence of Fe3O4 NPs, oxidizer and crosslinker. TEM analysis showed nearly spherical morphology of HmSiO2-F-P(NIPAM-MAm) nanocarrier with a diameter in the range of 100–300 nm. The coating of P(NIPAM-MAm) layer and embedding of Fe3O4 NPs on the surface of the HmSiO2 NPs was revealed by HRTEM analysis. XRD and FTIR analysis also confirmed the presence of P(NIPAM-MAm) shells and Fe3O4 NPs on hollow mesoporous silica NPs. VSM analysis suggested the superparamagnetic nature of HmSiO2-F-P(NIPAM-MAm) nanocarrier. DSC analysis of HmSiO2-F-P(NIPAM-MAm) nanocarrier showed a phase transition at the temperature of ∼38 °C. The prepared HmSiO2-F-P(NIPAM-MAm) nanocarrier was investigated for its suitability for drug-delivery application using doxorubicin as the model drug by an in vitro method. The encapsulation efficiency and encapsulation capacity were found to be 95% and 6.8%, respectively. HmSiO2-F-P(NIPAM-MAm)-Dox has shown a pH and temperature-dependent Dox release profile. A relatively faster release of Dox from the nanocarrier was observed at temperature above the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) than below the LCST. HmSiO2-F-P(NIPAM-MAm) nanocarrier was found to be biocompatible in nature. In vitro cytotoxicity studies against Hela cells suggested that the HmSiO2-F-P(NIPAM-MAm)-Dox nanocomposite nanocarrier has good anticancer activity. In vitro cellular uptake study of HmSiO2-F-P(NIPAM-MAm)-Dox nanocomposite nanocarrier demonstrated its good internalisation ability into Hela cells. This study, for the first time, reports the synthesis of CuO- and Cu2O nanoparticles (NPs) using the Salvia hispanica extract by a high-gravity technique. The original green synthesis procedure led to the formation of nanoparticles with promising catalytic and biological properties. The synthesized nanoparticles were fully characterized and their catalytic activity was evaluated through a typical Azide-Alkyne Cycloaddition (AAC) reaction. The potential antibacterial activity against gram positive (S. aureus) and gram negative (E. coli) bacteria were investigated. It was shown that the antibacterial properties were independent of the NP morphology as well as of the texture of the synthesis media. As a result, the presently synthesized nanoparticles showed very good photocatalytic and catalytic activities in comparison with the literature. From a biological perspective, they showed lower cytotoxicity in comparison with the literature, and also showed higher antioxidant and antibacterial activities. The present article demonstrates the synthesis of the nanocomposite of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) with CdSe and CdSe/V2O5 core/shell quantum dots by a two-step facile synthesis approach and subsequently studies their relative biocompatibility in different cells. Various characterization techniques have been applied including transmission electron microscopy (TEM), an x-ray diffractometer (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy to confirm the successful formation of CdSe-rGO and CdSe/V2O5-rGO nanocomposites. The average sizes of CdSe and CdSe/V2O5 QDs have found to be ∼3 and 5.5 nm, respectively with a good dispersion over the surface of rGO nanosheets. A crystal phase change has occurred during the formation of the V2O5 shell over the surface of CdSe QDs and confirmed through XRD. Raman spectroscopy has shown some useful insight of the surface state of CdSe and consequent changes in the surface with V2O5 shell growth. Further, MTT and cell growth assays have been performed to analyze their biocompatibility in A549 and Hela cells with various concentrations of as-synthesized materials. Our results demonstrate the toxicity of CdSe-rGO nanocomposite to be substantially reduced by the growth of the V2O5 shell. The in vivo studies in Drosophila show a remarkable decrease in the reactive oxygen species (ROS) and apoptosis levels for a CdSe/V2O5-rGO composite as compared to a CdSe-rGO nanocomposite, which paves a promising pathway for the CdSe/V2O5-rGO nanocomposite to be used as an efficient biocompatible material. Multifunctional Fe3O4@Gd2O3:Tb3+@SiOx nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by co-precipitation and polyol methods. The synthesized nanoparticles were composed by cubic phase as core of Fe3O4 and Gd2O3:Tb3+ and the shell of amorphous SiOx. The composites exhibited a spherical shape with a diameter of 10–15 nm and highly uniform dispersion. They showed not only excellent fluorescence under excitation at a wavelength of 278 nm, but also strong magnetic responsiveness (MS = 24.040 emu g−1). The results of magnetic resonance imaging in vitro (r1 = 6.00 mm−1 s−1, r2 = 63.95 mm−1 s−1) showed that the samples could be used as T1-positive and T2-negative contrast agents. In addition, it was found that Fe3O4@Gd2O3:Tb3+@SiOx attains hyperthermia temperature (43 °C) in 90 s under the alternating current magnetic field, and their specific absorption rate (229.9 w g−1) was higher than that of Fe3O4 (183.92 w g−1). Iron oxide nanoparticles are the most popular magnetic nanoparticles used in biomedical applications due to their low cost, low toxicity, and unique magnetic property. Magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles, including magnetite (Fe3O4) and maghemite (γ-Fe2O3), usually exhibit a superparamagnetic property as their size goes smaller than 20 nm, which are often denoted as superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) and utilized for drug delivery, diagnosis, therapy, and etc. This review article gives a brief introduction on magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles in terms of their fundamentals of magnetism, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and drug delivery, as well as the synthesis approaches, surface coating, and application examples from recent key literatures. Because the quality and surface chemistry play important roles in biomedical applications, our review focuses on the synthesis approaches and surface modifications of iron oxide nanoparticles. We aim to provide a detailed introduction to readers who are new to this field, helping them to choose suitable synthesis methods and to optimize the surface chemistry of iron oxide nanoparticles for their interests. Ultrathin silica coating (UTSC) has emerged as an effective way to improve the compatibility and stability of nanoparticles without attenuating their intrinsic optical properties. Exploration strategies to probe the growth process of ultrathin silica shells on the surface of nanoparticles would represent a valuable innovation that would benefit the development of ultrathin silica coated nanoparticles and their relevant applications. In this work, we report a unique, very effective and straightforward strategy for probing the growth of ultrathin silica shells on the surface of gold nanorods (Au NRs), which exploits the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) as a reporting signal. The thickness of the ultrathin silica shells on the surface of Au NRs can be quantitatively measured and predicted in the range of 0.5–3.5 nm. It is demonstrated that the LSPR shift accurately reflects the real-time change in the thickness of the ultrathin silica shells on Au NRs during the growth process. By using the developed strategy, we further analyze the growth of UTSC on the surface of Au NRs via feeding of Na2SiO3 in a stepwise manner. The responsiveness analysis of LSPR also provides important insight into the shielding effect of UTSC on the surface of Au NRs that is not accessible with conventional strategies. The long-term stability of quantum dot (QD)-based devices under harsh environmental conditions has been a critical bottleneck to be resolved for commercial use. Here, we demonstrate an extremely stable QD/alumina/polymer hybrid structure by combining internal atomic layer deposition (ALD) infilling with polymer encapsulation. ALD infilling and polymer encapsulation of QDs synergistically prohibit the degradation of QDs in terms of optical, thermal and humid attacks. Our hybrid QD/alumina/polymer film structure showed no noticeable reduction in photoluminescence even in a commercial grade test (85% humidity at 85 ° C) over 28 days. In addition, we successfully fabricated a QD-based light-emitting device with excellent long-term stability by incorporating hybrid QD/alumina/polymer film as a color conversion material on light-emitting diode chips. There is increasing interest in the use of nanoparticles (NPs) for biomedical applications. In particular, nanobiophotonic approaches using fluorescence offers the potential of high sensitivity and selectivity in applications such as cell imaging and intracellular sensing. In this review, we focus primarily on the use of fluorescent silica NPs for these applications and, in so doing, aim to enhance and complement the key recent review articles on these topics. We summarize the main synthetic approaches, namely the Stöber and microemulsion processes, and, in this context, we deal with issues in relation to both covalent and physical incorporation of different types of dyes in the particles. The important issue of NP functionalization for conjugation to biomolecules is discussed and strategies published in the recent literature are highlighted and evaluated. We cite recent examples of the use of fluorescent silica NPs for cell imaging in the areas of cancer, stem cell and infectious disease research, and we review the current literature on the use of silica NPs for intracellular sensing of oxygen, pH and ionic species. We include a short final section which seeks to identify the main challenges and obstacles in relation to the potential widespread use of these particles for in vivo diagnostics and therapeutics. Colloidal chemical synthesis of various types of magnetic nanocrystals is discussed with regard to recent discoveries. We first outline the chemical preparation of single-component magnetic nanocrystals with controlled size, shape, and uniformity based on several solution-phase methods, especially thermal decomposition and/or reduction method. Then we discuss the synthetic strategies of multi-component nanocrystals incorporating at least one magnetic component by manipulating heterogeneous nucleation and growth process. Toward the end, approaches for preparing hollow/porous magnetic nanocrystals are highlighted. Contrast-enhanced digital mammography (CEDM) can provide improved breast cancer detection and characterization compared to conventional mammography by imaging the effects of tumour angiogenesis. Current smallmolecule contrast agents used for CEDM are limited by a short plasma halflife and rapid extravasation into tissue interstitial space. To address these limitations, nanoscale agents that can remain intravascular except at sites of tumour angiogenesis can be used. For CEDM, this agent must be both biocompatible and strongly attenuatemammographic energy x-rays.Nanoscale perfluorooctylbromide (PFOB) droplets have good x-ray attenuation and have been used in patients for other applications. However, the macroscopic scale of x-ray imaging (50-100 μm) is inadequate for direct verification that PFOB droplets localize at sites of breast tumour angiogenesis. For efficient pre-clinical optimization for CEDM, we integrated an optical marker into PFOB droplets for microscopic assessment (⪡50 μm). To develop PFOB droplets as a new nanoscale mammographic contrast agent, PFOB droplets were labelled with fluorescent quantum dots (QDs). The droplets had mean diameters of 160 nm, fluoresced at 635 nm and attenuated x-ray spectra at 30.5 keV mean energy with a relative attenuation of 5.6 ± 0.3 Hounsfield units (HU) mg-1 mL-1 QDPFOB. With the agent loaded into tissue phantoms, good correlation between x-ray attenuation and optical fluorescence was found (R2 = 0.96), confirming co-localization of the QDs withPFOBfor quantitative assessment using x-ray or optical methods. Furthermore, the QDs can be removed from the PFOB agent without affecting its x-ray attenuation or structural properties for expedited translation of optimized PFOB droplet formulations into patients. Diagnosis facilitates the discovery of an impending disease. A complete and accurate treatment of cancer depends heavily on its early medical diagnosis. Cancer, one of the most fatal diseases world-wide, consistently affects a larger number of patients each year. Magnetism, a physical property arising from the motion of electrical charges, which causes attraction and repulsion between objects and does not involve radiation, has been under intense investigation for several years. Magnetic materials show great promise in the application of image contrast enhancement to accurately image and diagnose cancer. Chelating gadolinium (Gd III) and magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) have the prospect to pave the way for diagnosis, operative management, and adjuvant therapy of different kinds of cancers. The potential of MNP-based magnetic resonance (MR) contrast agents (CAs) now makes it possible to image portions of a tumor in parts of the body that would be unclear with the conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Multiple functionalities like variety of targeting ligands and image contrast enhancement have recently been added to the MNPs. Keeping aside the additional complexities in synthetic steps, costs, more convoluted behavior, and effects in-vivo, multifunctional MNPs still face great regulatory hurdles before clinical availability for cancer patients. The trade-off between additional functionality and complexity is a subject of ongoing debate. The recent progress regarding the types, design, synthesis, morphology, characterization, modification, and the in-vivo and in-vitro uses of different MRI contrast agents, including MNPs, to diagnose cancer will be the focus of this review. As our knowledge of MNPs' characteristics and applications expands, their role in the future management of cancer patients will become very important. The second near-infrared window (NIR-II, wavelength of 1.0-1:4 μm) is optimal for the bioimaging of live animals due to their low albedo and endogenous autofluorescence. Herein, we report a facile and one-pot biomimetic synthesis approach to prepare water-dispersible NIR-II-emitting ultrasmall Ag2S quantum dots (QDs). Photoluminescence spectra showed that the emission peaks could be tuned from 1294 to 1050 nm as the size of the Ag2S QDs varied from 6.8 to 1.6 nm. The x-ray diffraction patterns and x-ray photoelectron spectra confirmed that the products were monoclinic α-Ag2S. Fourier transform infrared spectrograph analysis indicated that the products were protein-conjugated Ag2S QDs. Examination of cytotoxicity and the hemolysis test showed that the obtained Ag2S QDs had good biocompatibility, indicating that such a nanomaterial could be a new kind of fluorescent label for in vivo imaging.
