Artificial optoelectronic synapses have the advantages of large bandwidth, low power consumption and low crosstalk, and are considered to be the basic building blocks of neuromorphic computing. In this paper, a two-terminal optoelectronic synaptic device with ITO-MoO x -Pt structure is prepared by magnetron sputtering. The performance of resistive switching (RS) and the photo plastic properties of the device are analyzed and demonstrated. Electrical characterization tests show that the device has a resistive HRS/LRS ratio of about 90, stable endurance, and retention characteristics of more than 104 s (85 °C). The physical mechanism of the device is elucidated by a conducting filament composed of oxygen vacancies. Furthermore, the function of various synaptic neural morphologies is successfully mimicked using UV light as the stimulation source. Including short-term/long-term memory, paired-pulse facilitation, the transition from short-term to long-term memory, and ‘learning-experience’ behavior. Integrated optical sensing and electronic data storage devices have great potential for future artificial intelligence, which will facilitate the rapid development of retina-like visual sensors and low-power neuromorphic systems.

A particle-in-cell Monte Carlo collision model of a discharge chamber is established to investigate the start-up process of a miniature ion thruster. We present the discharge characteristics at different stages (the initial stage, development stage, and stable stage) according to the trend of the discharge current with time. The discharge current is the sum of the sidewall current and the backplate current. During the start-up process, the sidewall current lags behind the backplate current. The variation and distribution characteristics of the discharge current over time are determined by the electron density distribution and electric potential distribution.

The Muskingum model is an effective flood routing technology in hydrology and water resources Engineering. With the development of optimization technology, more and more variable-parameter Muskingum models were presented to improve effectiveness of the Muskingum model in recent decades. A variable-parameter nonlinear Muskingum model (NVPNLMM) was proposed in this paper. According to the results of two real and frequently-used case studies by various models, the NVPNLMM could obtain better values of evaluation criteria, which are used to describe the superiority of the estimated outflows and compare the accuracies of flood routing using various models, and the optimal estimated outflows by the NVPNLMM were closer to the observed outflows than the ones by other models.

We proposed a metamaterial absorber which is aimed to achieve a multiple broadband absorption and tunable absorption peak in the near-infrared region. The absorber is based on VO2 semi-shell coated on the top of silica nano-particle array supported on the gold-reflective layer. Measured results show that the absorber has the multiple broadband with the absorption magnitudes more than 95% in the near infrared region. The absorption peaks can be tuned through the VO2 phase transition from metallic phase to insulator phase in the short wavelength (before λ = 1500 nm), when VO2 is at the metallic state, an absorption band appears in the long wavelength (after λ = 1500 nm). The simulation results closely match those of measured. The absorption intensity becomes stronger and absorption peaks have red shift with the increase of thickness of VO2 semi-shell. Thus, this designed tunable absorption intensity and position absorber based on VO2 can be a good choice for enhancing the performance of multiple band, this would be beneficial to the field of photo detectors, sensor and solar cell.
