Increased air pollution in the areas where large mining complexes are located poses a risk to public health. The article examines harmful substances atmosphere emissions’ impact on the population health living near an industrial mining enterprise of the Kopanishchensky natural chalk deposit in the Ostrogozhsky district of the Voronezh region. Environmental risks calculations showed that out of 36 chemical substances that pollute the atmosphere, 5 substances have a carcinogenic effect. The maximum values of the total carcinogenic risk do not exceed the dangerous threshold, however, they need to be carefully monitored. The main contributor to the total risk is carbon soot – 99.9%. Calculations results of non-carcinogenic risks due to inhalation exposure showed that the respiratory organs which are negatively affected by 8 out of 10 priority chemicals, are most potentially affected.

The aim of research was to identify health damage probability when traffic noise exposed. Instrumental noise measurements were carried out at 4 control points on the street highways of Voronezh city. The equivalent level of day, evening and night noise was determined. MR 2.1.10.0059-12 “Public health risk assessment from the traffic noise impact” was used as a methodological basis. It was found that the equivalent level of daytime noise varied from 45 to 65 dB, evening – from 40 to 49 dB, night – from 34 to 46 dB. According to the level of diseases reduced risk the cardiovascular system from noise load exposure for time exposure of 70-85 years the risk indicators (0.6861-1.0) refer to the level of “extreme risk”, 60-67 years (0.3551-0, 5594) – to the “high risk” level. The diseases reduced risk of the nervous system and hearing organs from traffic noise exposure is classified as “low”.

Based on the Voronezh hydrometeorological service official statistics analysis, the pollutants (formaldehyde and carbon black) dynamics regularities depending on the various meteorological parameters combination - air temperature, wind speed, relative humidity. A positive relationship was established between atmospheric pollution growth with formaldehyde and air temperature. As the wind speed and the air relative humidity increase, the formaldehyde and soot concentration in the urban atmosphere, as a rule, decreases. The carcinogenic risk maximum permissible level to public health, causing concern, has been established. The obtained patterns can be used to predict the city’s atmosphere technogenic pollution level depending on meteorological conditions. A statistical analysis of the incidence rate of various types of diseases in a population for different age groups was carried out: children (up to 14 years old inclusive), adolescents (15-17 years old), adults (18 years old and older), depending on environmental factors such as concentration of atmospheric impurities, as well as drinking water quality indicators. A dynamic autoregressive model for panel data was used to determine the quantitative dependence of the incidence rate in a population on environmental pollution factors. Panel data on population morbidity indicators, air pollution and the drinking water quality were built on the basis of official statistics for the districts of the Voronezh region and the city of Voronezh over a multi-year period. Considering that the incidence levels in the districts of the Voronezh region and in the city of Voronezh linearly depend on determining factors, linear dynamic models were constructed to describe the level of the disease classes recorded for the year, depending on the level of the corresponding disease classes for the previous year, as well as those registered for the analyzed year of concentrations of chemical impurities in the atmosphere or, accordingly, the values of drinking water quality indicators. As a result of the analysis, statistically significant quantitative dependences on the recorded factors of technogenic environmental pollution were obtained for certain classes of morbidity.

Studied the regularity of formation of socio-environmental conditions that affect the environmental safety of cities on the example of the city of Voronezh. The results obtained in the course of many years of monitoring studies are summarized in the GIS “Environmental and socio-economic conditions of the city of Voronezh”. GIS consists of a system of hierarchically subdivided sections of databases and thematic mapping tools, reflecting the natural resource potential, socio-economic and environmental-hygienic situation of urbanized territories. The basis is Earth remote sensing data, and official statistics from environmental agencies. For mathematical cartographic modeling, an array of official statistical information was selected for a 20-year period, from 1998 to 2018.

The paper deals with the thermal remote sensing data application in verification of Voronezh urban heat island model. We computed surface temperature layer and temperature variation layer for the warm season of 2015 on the basis of Landsat 8 TIRS scenes set. The values from those layers and the urban heat island layer at 234 ground control areas were compared. It validated the urban heat island model for built-up areas and showed the thermal differences for water and forests surfaces. To convert the real surface temperatures to urban heat island scores a regression model was computed. The study reveals that the thermal remote sensing data and the urban heat island model are complimenting each other in case of microclimatic studies in Voronezh.
