In HL-2A tokamaks, the behavior of heat flux deposited on the divertor targets has been studied during deuterium gas fuelling. The heat flux is reduced significantly after supersonic molecular beam injection (SMBI) fuelling during Ohmic and electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) divertor discharges. The SMBI fuelling causes an increase in the plasma density and this change results in the experienced change of the edge properties. Most of this reduction in divertor target heat flux occurs together with a high plasma radiation region located at near the X-point. The largest reduction in heat flux profiles is observed at the outboard divertor separatrix strike point, while the heat flux far from the strike point remains almost unchanged. In particular, with SMBI multi-pulses gas fuelling, a partially detached divertor regime is observed with a highly radiating region at the X-point. With the onset of the partially detached divertor regime, a sudden drop in both heat flux and power flow on the divertor target is observed. The reduction in power load on the divertor targets is roughly equal to the increase in plasma radiation loss.

Two plasma reactors have been developed and used to degrade dye wastewater agents. The configuration of one plasma reactor is a comb-like extendable unit module consisting of 5 electrodes covered with a quartz tube and the other one is an array reactor which is extended from the unit module. The decomposition of wastewater by ns pulse dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma have been carried out by atomizing the dyeing solutions into the reactors. During experiments, the indigo carmine has been treated as the waste agent. The measurements of UV-VIS absorption spectroscopy and the chemical oxygen demand (COD) are carried out to demonstrate the decomposition effect on the wastewater. It shows that the decoloration rate of 99% and the COD degradation rate of 65% are achieved with 15 min treatment in the unit reactor. The effect of electrical parameters on degradation has been studied in detail. Results from the array reactor indicate that it has a better degradation effect than the unit one. It can not only totally remove the chromogenic bond of the indigo carmine solution, but also effectively degrade unsaturated bonds. The decoloration rate reaches 99% after 10 min treatment, the decomposition rate of the unsaturated bond reaches 83% after 60 min treatment, and the COD degradation rate is nearly 74%.

On HL-2A, the ion temperature profile can be roughly estimated by analyzing the energy spectrum of the neutral particles that escape from core plasma through 11 different spatial channels. However, this profile deviates from the real radial distribution because of the averaging and attenuation effects. The DEGAS code is used to estimate these effects and reconstruct a more reasonable ion temperature profile by simulating these neutral spectra and making them conform to the measurements. In this paper, critical parameters that affect the escaped neutral spectra are enumerated, and an example of a reconstruction of the ion temperature profile is presented based on experimental data.

This paper describes a novel method for the degradation of eosin by using glow discharge electrolysis (GDE). The effects of various parameters on the removal efficiency were studied. It was found that the eosin degradation could be raised considerably by increasing the applied voltage and the initial concentration, or by decreasing pH of the aqueous solution. Fe2+ ion had an evident accelerating effect on the eosin degradation. The degradation process of eosin obeyed a pseudo-first-order reaction. The relationship between the degradation rate constant k and the reaction temperature T could be expressed by Arrhenius equation with which the apparent activation energy Ea of 14.110 kJ. mol−1 and the pre-exponential factor ko of 2.065×10−1 min−1 were obtained, too. The determination of hydroxyl radical was carried out by using N,N-dimethyl-p-nitrosoaniline (RNO) as a scavenger. The results showed that the hydroxyl radical plays an important role in the degradation process.

The oxidative degradation of aqueous carbofuran, a heavily used toxic carbamate insecticide by low temperature plasma, was investigated. The results show that the treatment efficiency increases with the increase in initial concentration. Raising the treatment temperature and changing the pH value can result in enhanced degradation of carbofuran in solution. The results also show that low temperature plasma treatment can effectively remove chemical oxygen demand (COD) of carbofuran in the solution.

Contact glow discharge electrolysis is a non-Faradaic electrochemical process with an abnormal relationship between the current and voltage. Hydroxyl radicals, hydrogen radicals and hydrogen peroxide can be produced under the glow discharge, which are often used to degrade organic contaminants in aqueous solution. In this study, with 4-nitrophenol taken as an example of contaminants and tert-butanol as a scavenger of hydroxyl radicals, the role of energetic species in degrading organic compounds was examined in detail. Moreover, the effects of the applied voltage, solution conductivity and pH on the formation of three energetic species were also observed. The formation rate constants of the three energetic species were calculated based on the experimental data.

In this paper, we use methyl violet as a model organic substrate in wastewater to study the effect of Fe(II) ion on the contact glow discharge electrolysis (CGDE). The decoloration rate and the COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) value have been examined. It is found that the presence of Fe(II) ion can accelerate obviously the degradation of methyl violet, because it reacts with H2O2 in the CGDE process to yield hydroxyl radical, just acting as a Fenton-like reagent. Moreover, the optimal conditions for decoloring methyl violet were obtained, by means of an orthogonal experiment, to be [Fe2+] =1× 10−3 mol/L, applied voltage of 700 V of and pH = 9.0.

This paper presents a novel set-up to be used in the degradation of dye. Various influencing factors, such as the voltage, the number of the anodes, and the catalytic action of Fe2+, were examined. Chemical oxygen demand (COD), ultraviolet (UV), FTIR absorption spectra, and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were used to monitor the degradation process. The results showed that the efficiency of degradation is raised by increasing the applied voltage, and is further improved when two or three anodes are used. Moreover, the use of Fe2+ ion can promote the degradation reaction and shorten the degradation time. So the multi-electrode instrument is more efficient in degrading the dye and should be further studied.

We investigate the influence of Doppler broadening on absorption-dispersion properties in a four-level atomic system that can evolve from a normal dispersion to an anomalous dispersion. Our results show that the absorption-dispersion properties become strongly dependent on the propagation directions of the applied fields if Doppler broadening is taken into account. Especially, the switchover in the sign of the dispersion is still achievable even in the presence of Doppler broadening if properly arranging the propagation directions of the applied fields, which is in contrast with the otherwise behaviours in some other configurations.

Transparent low-resistance SnO2:F films, suitable as a low-emissivity and conducting coating, have been deposited on silica-coated soda lime glass substrates by pyrosol process. SnCl4.5H2O and NH4F dissolved in solvent of 50% C2H5OH/50% H2O served as the starting solution. With the parameters such as substrate temperature of 450 degrees C, distance between the nozzle and substrate of 60mm, carrier gas flow rate of 8L/min and deposition time of 5min, the optimized SnO2:F films having a sheet resistance of about 2Ω/, were deposited repeatedly. The relationship between sheet resistances and infrared transmission spectra of SnO2:F films is shown schematically.

In an aqueous solution, normal electrolysis at high voltages switches over spontaneously to glow discharge electrolysis and gives rise to hydroxyl radical, hydrogen peroxide, and aqueous electron, as well as several other active species. Hydroxyl radical directly attacks organic contaminants to make them oxidized. In the present paper, 2-naphthylamine is eventually degraded into hydrogen carbonate and carbon dioxide. The degradation process is analyzed by using an Ultraviolet (UV) absorption spectrum, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and chemical oxygen demand (COD). It is demonstrated that 2-naphthylamine (c0 =30 mgl-1) is completely converted within 2h at 30°C and 600 V by glow discharge electrolysis, and the degradation is strongly dependent upon the presence of ferrous ions. COD is ascended in the absence of ferrous ions and descended in the presence of them.

We propose a scheme for light amplification in an asymmetric double quantum well, where two excited states are coupled by resonant tunnelling through a thin barrier in a three-level system of electronic subbands. By applying a single driving laser, the steady state gain can be obtained. The calculated gain spectrum for an asymmetric GaAs/AlGaAs double quantum well structure was presented.

Between source/drain and gate of SiC Schottky barrier source/drain MOSFET (SiC SBSD-MOSFET), there must be a sidewall as isolation. The width of sidewall strongly affects on the device performance. In this paper the effect of sidewall on the performance of 6H-SiC SBSD-NMOSFET is simulated with the 2D simulator MEDICI. The simulated results show that a sidewall with width less than 0.1μm slightly affects the device performance. However, when the width of sidewall exceeds 0.1μm, the conduction does not occur until the drain voltage is high enough and saturation current sharply decreases. The effect of the sidewall on device performance can be reduced by decreasing the doping concentration in the epitaxial layer.

We investigate the transient behaviour of a weak probe in asymmetric double quantum well structures, where two excited states are coupled by resonant tunnelling through a thin barrier in a three-level system of electronic subbands. There is no external coherent coupling field applied, and we find that probe gain can be achieved during the transient process, which is induced by the coherent coupling of the upper states via the resonant tunnelling. We show that the transient behaviour of the probe depends on the coupling strength and the dephasing rate and can be tuned by changing the width of the tunnelling barrier.

A four-level system is proposed to produce large index of refraction accompanied by vanishing absorption in the Er3+-doped yttrium aluminium garnet (YAG) crystal. It is found that the high index of refraction with zero absorption can be provided by adjusting the incoherent pumping, the coherent field, as well as the concentration of Er3+ ions in the crystal. Furthermore, the value of the incoherent pump to achieve the high index of refraction with zero absorption is greatly changed with increasing the concentration of Er3+ ions in the crystal. This indicates that the effect of concentration on the high index of refraction with zero absorption cannot be neglected.

We report on a theoretical analysis of the effects of a converging pump field of Gaussian transverse profile on second harmonic generation in a periodic nonlinear material with quasi-phase-matching. The outputs of the centre intensity and the intensity flux for second harmonic generation are derived by simulation, based on the parameters of quasi-phase-mismatch, the waist and focus positions of the input pump beam. The results show that when the transverse profile of the pump field is taken into account, the quasi-phase-match value and focus position of input beam for maximal second harmonic generation follow new criteria.

Contact glow discharge electrolysis of some chloroanilines in sodium sulfate was investigated in different initial concentrations. Each of them underwent the dechlorination, deamination through oxidative degradation, and were eventually decomposed into hydrogen carbonate and carbon dioxide. It was testified that the chlorine atom and amidogen could be transformed into chloride ion and nitrite ion, respectively. Fe2+ has a remarkable catalytic effect on the degradation of them. On the basis of the detailed analysis of the intermediate products and kinetic behaviors, the reaction pathway was proposed, in which the attack of hydroxyl radical on the benzene ring of starting material might be a key step.

Contact glow discharge electrolysis (CGDE) of o-chlorophenol (2-CP) was investigated under different pH, voltages and initial concentrations. And the mechanism of the oxidation was explored. The results suggested that the degradation followed the first order kinetic law; Fe2+ had a remarkable catalytic effect on the removal rate of o-chloropenol. In the presence of Fe2+, 2-CP underwent an exhaustive degradation, from which the major intermediates included o-dihydroxybenze, p-hydroxybenze, p-benzoquione and carboxlic acids.

We proposed a four-level system to explore the quantum interference effects on optical amplification. We found that the gain of the probe, including positions and values of gain peaks, can be adjusted by changing the coherent field and the incoherent pumping. At the same time, we can also modify the absorption profile of electromagnetically induced transparency by the incoherent pump. The results provide a method to flatten the gain of Erbium-doped fibre amplifiers.

We propose a new four-level atomic model for achieving light amplification at a short wavelength, where direct incoherent pumping into the top level is avoided by the advantage of coherent pumping. In this model, the lower level of the probe transition is an excited state but not the usual ground state. By analytical as well as numerical calculations, we find that the probe gain, either with or without population inversion, which depends on the relation between spontaneous decay rates γ42 and γ21, can be achieved with proper parameters. We note that the Raman scattering gain always plays an important role in achieving the probe amplification.

We have studied the absorption spectrum of a Doppler-broadened ladder system, where the highest level is coupled into two middle hyperfine sublevels by a strong coherent field. We find that, when the system is considered as homogeneous, either two or three spectral components are observed, depending on the detuning of the coherent field. But when the velocity distribution of atoms is considered, we can always observe one electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) window with high dispersion. So the atomic hyperfine structure cannot be an impediment for obtaining EIT.

In this paper, the degradation of aniline by plasma which was generated in a localized zone between an electrolytic solution and an anode was reported. The influence of the initial concentration, temperature, pH and different mediums of aniline on the reaction kinetic was investigated. The results showed that temperature had a remarkable effect on the degradation of aniline, but the concentration had no appreciable effect on the degradation. There is a maximum elimination rate on the degradation of aniline in neutral condition. Iron (II) and other cations had a remarkable catalytic action on it. On the basis of the detailed analysis of the kinetical consideration, it was demonstrated that the oxidative degradation would be a first-order reaction. Some of the intermediate products of the degradatio process in the solution were detected by HPLC.

Oxidative degradation of eight kinds of dyes induced by plasma in aqueous solution was investigated with contact glow discharge electrolysis (CGDE). It has been demonstrated that these eight dyes underwent degradation in CGDE, where Fe2+ could be utilised to raise the efficiency of degradation of dyes.

Chemical effects in different aqueous solutions induced by plasma with glow discharge electrolysis (GDE) and contact glow discharge electrolysis (CGDE) are described in this paper. The experimental and discharge characteristics are also reviewed. These are followed by a discussion of their mechanisms of both anodic and cathodic CGDE..

This paper deals with the absorption spectra of a weak probe in a four-level Doppler-broadened system driven by three coherent fields. The main aim is to extend earlier studies of the spontaneous emission spectrum and to present a comprehensive survey of the spectral features of this system. In addition to a derivation of exact formulae for the spectra, we give an explanation with the help of an appropriate set of dressed atomic states. We also get a deeper insight into the physical origin of gain in view of the existence of a population inversion between the levels of the lasing transition. Finally, we explore the effect of Doppler broadening on the absorption profile of the weak probe.

Degradation of α-naphthol induced by plasma in aqueous solution was investigated in different initial concentration with contact glow discharge electrolysis (CGDE). The results showed that the degradation of α-naphthol obeyed the first-rate law. Some of predominant products were analyzed by a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). A path of α-naphthol disappearance caused by plasma was proposed according to the detected intermediate products.

We have studied the steady spontaneous emission spectrum of a four-level Doppler-broadened system driven by three coherent fields. It is found that the fluorescence spectrum is composed of nine contributions. The spectral components have quite different widths and peak heights compared with the case of the standard driven two-level or three-level resonance fluorescence. We provide numerical results in support of our arguments for arbitrary values of the atomic and field parameters.

A new scheme of electromagnetically induced two-photon transparency in a four-level V-type Doppler-broadened medium is presented in this paper. Under a proper condition, the two-photon absorption can be greatly reduced by applying a control laser field with relatively lower intensity compared with that needed in other field-induced multi-photon absorption reduction.

A general response system control method for synchronization of continuous scalar chaotic signal is presented. The proposed canonical general response system can cover most of the well-known chaotic systems. Conversely, each of these chaotic systems can also be used to construct the general response system. Furthermore, a novel controller of the proposed response system is designed based on backstepping technique, with which the output of the general response system and the given continuous chaotic signal can synchronize perfectly. Two numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

The oxidative degradation of 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) in aqueous solution induced by plasma with submersed glow discharge has been investigated. The concentration of 4-CP and the reaction intermediates were determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Various influencing factors such as the initial pH, the concentration of 4-CP and the catalytic action of Fe2+ were examined. The results indicate that 4-CP is eventually degraded into inorganic ion, dioxide carbon and water. The attack of hydroxyl radicals on the benzene rings of 4-CP in the initial stage of oxidative reactions is presumed to be a key step. They also suggest that the reaction is of a pseudo-first order kinetic reaction and the proposed method is an efficient way for the 4-CP degradation.

A novel SiC Schottky barrier source/drain NMOSFET (SiC SBSD-NMOSFET) with field-induced source/drain (FISD) extension is proposed and demonstrated by numerical simulation for the first time. In the new device the FISD extension is induced by a metal field-plate lying on top of the passivation oxide and the width of Schottky barrier is controlled by the metal field-plate. The new structure not only eliminates the effect of the sidewalls but also significantly improves the on-state current. Moreover, the performance of the present device exhibits very weak dependence on the widths of sidewalls.

Absolute generalized oscillator strengths (GOSs) for the C 1 s preionization-edge transitions at 295.4 eV and 297.7 eV in perfluoroethane have been determined as functions of energy loss and momentum transfer (K) at impact energy of 2.5 keV for the first time. The corresponding GOS profiles have been found to have the characteristic dipole-dominated shapes with a strong maximum at K = 0. The spectral features can be interpreted in terms of transitions terminating at the σ* (C–F) molecular orbital.

Due to interaction with the vacuum of the radiation field, near-degenerate lower levels in a Λ system have an additional coherence term, the spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) term. For such a system, we investigate the effect of the relative phase between two coherent fields on the inversionless gain in the presence of the SGC. We find that the inversionless gain, which stems from both SGC and dynamically induced coherence, can be modulated by the relative phase.
