This paper undertakes a reading of the UK government’s recent white paper, Secure Borders, Safe Havens. The aim is to investigate the politics of in/security by comparing it not with the geopolitics of the Cold War but with the politics and discourse of social security. The paper concludes by proposing a concept of ‘domopolitics’ to make sense of the identities and practices present in British immigration debates, but also in the US experience of ‘homeland’ security.
