Abstract

Enclosed-gate layout MOSFETs with guard rings have been fabricated in a commercial 0.18 [micro]m complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technology. The static, small signal, and noise performance of the MOSFETs were determined before and after being subjected to ionizing radiation. The transistor design could provide the basis for low-noise radiation-tolerant circuits. Abstract

We describe a radiation-tolerant controller used to control switched-capacitor arrays. The controller has been developed for the liquid argon calorimeter of the ATLAS detector. Radiation tolerance has been achieved by applying layout, circuit, and system mitigation techniques to a commercial 0.25 [micro]m complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technology. Index Terms--Complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS), deep submicrometer, front-end electronics, radiation, switched-capacitor array (SCA).
