France is participating as one of the European vol-untary contributors to the joint Europe-Japan so-calledBroaderApproach(BA)activitiesinsupportofITERandDEMO activities, consisting of three projects: the engi-neering design and validation of a 14-MeV-neutron ir-radiation facility (IFMIF-EVEDA), the building of theInternational Fusion Energy Research Centre (IFERC),and the ITER Satellite Tokamak Programme (STP–JT-60SA). This paper gives an overview of the French con-tributions to the BA projects and reports on the presentstatus of these projects since 2007.

The Katholieke Universiteit Leuven uses two different CAD/CAM systems. We first give an explanation why the introduction of CAD/CAM was necessary, looking at the task of our university in engineering education, looking at the basic requirement in teaching design, and looking also at the already existing programs in computer sciences. Next we give the basic principles followed by the investigation and the final choice of the system. Finally the initial results are given with a description of the various pitfalls to look out for.

SUMMARY Engineering education should be relevant to the needs of our industry as industry absorbs the large majority of our engineering students, either directly or indirectly. The contact between industry and engineering students has therefore to be stimulated. As no legal obligation exists in Belgium, this is left entirely to the initiative of the professors and the engineers in industry. We will explain how at our university those contacts are developed for the mechanical engineering students. We will explain our aims, our working conditions and circumstances, our results and the role of the research. The art however is to stimulate the students, and to convince the industry of the importance of those contacts in the education of our and their future engineers.
