Military Children who have experienced multiple deployments of one or both parents are more likely to have emotional and behavioral difficulties compared with their civilian peers (e.g., Chandra et al., 2010 ). The U.S. Army Medical Command has tasked the Child, Adolescent and Family Behavioral Health Office (CAF-BHO) to develop programs to address the behavioral health (BH) needs of Army Children and Families. This article will describe the efforts of the CAF-BHO Training Section to disseminate and implement an evidence based practice training curriculum for Army Child and Family Behavioral Health Providers. Specifically, this article will detail: (a) the decision making strategy used to identify the training protocol for dissemination, (b) adaptations to the training program and treatment protocol to fit a Military context, and (c) efforts to implement, maximize and sustain utilization of evidence-based practices by Military BH providers over a large geographical area with limited resources.

To explore the impact of childhood limb loss on families in terms of healthcare utilisation, schooling and parental labour supply.Data were obtained from a cross-sectional, retrospective pilot survey of 123 parents or caregivers of children with limb loss selected randomly after stratification by aetiology (i.e. trauma, malignancy and congenital limb deficiency) from among eligible families identified by the Amputee Coalition of America. Healthcare utilisation, school (child) and labour market (parents) participation were examined.Children with limb loss use health services frequently and miss school for limb loss-related concerns. Over half of all parents adjusted their work participation in response to their child's limb loss. The use of prostheses may increase direct and indirect costs of limb loss. Children with acquired limb loss (amputation following trauma or cancer) were more likely than those with a congenital limb deficiency to use a prosthesis.Our data suggest that the impact of limb loss on families of affected children may include substantial costs, particularly when school and work effects are taken into account. Further research is needed to identify the full household- and societal-level costs of childhood limb loss and suggest interventions to reduce the burden experienced by families.

There are few studies that have directly examined teachers’ perceptions of children with ADHD, particularly children in the adolescent age range. The purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions of general‐education ninth through twelfth grade teachers regarding working with adolescent students with ADHD. Sorted responses from a sample of 100 general‐education high school teachers were analysed and then represented visually using a concept‐mapping technique. The final concept map suggests that teachers perceive adolescents with ADHD along two dichotomies of thematic clusters on an orthogonal axis. Clusters at the top area of the concept map suggest perceptions related to high confidence and willingness, while clusters at the bottom suggest perceptions related to uneasiness and frustration. Dialogue and debate between gifted education advocates and proponents of the middle school philosophy prompted this research which examines the basic constructs and ideas inherent to both fields. This study analyzes gifted education models and middle school models to identify specific areas of commonality and/or conflict. Through the use of content analysis, many common and compatible areas between gifted education and middle school education are identified. The results of this study offer very positive implications for appropriately meeting the needs of all students, including gifted children, within the middle school context.

This study compared the relative ability of several techniques to measure shrimp quality. Fresh raw white shrimp (Penaeus setiferis) were stored whole at −20, 5, 25, and 35°C, sampled periodically, and measured for sensory odor score, psychro-trophic microbial numbers, pH, and Bactometer impedance values. Impedance, odor, and microbial numbers were highly correlated and predictive of quality, while pH was not an appropriate gauge of quality. Correlation of impedance with odor was 0.89, with a Bactometer I-value of 2175 or greater indicative of spoiled shrimp. This study provides continuing evidence that an impedimetric method can be used as a rapid, easy, and objective tool to measure shrimp quality.

This article concludes that there is a tremendous need for gifted programs at the kindergarten and first grade levels. A review of the literature suggests that it is difficult to identify young gifted children through traditional screening techniques. The author concludes that Renzulli's Enrichment Triad Model may prove useful for identifying young gifted children.

The use of individual intelligence tests for gifted assessment is widespread and when used appropriately, intelligence tests can provide valuable information for making decisions about placement and educational programs for the gifted. The purpose of this article is to discuss the many positive aspects of using intelligence tests in gifted assessment. These include the ability of intelligence tests to accurately predict academic and everyday success, the outstanding psychometric properties of intelligence tests, and the utility of intelligence tests in identifying giftedness in handicapped children, underachievers, and others who don't fit the typical pattern of giftedness. The article concludes with recommendations for the intelligent use of intelligence tests with gifted individuals.
