The high-performance liquid-chromatographic retentions of red-wine pesticide residues are modeled by structure-property relationships. The effect of different types of features is analyzed: geometric, lipophilic, etc. The properties are fractal dimensions, partition coefficient, etc., in linear and nonlinear correlation models. Biological plastic evolution is an evolutionary perspective conjugating the effect of acquired characters and relations that emerge among the principles of evolutionary indeterminacy, morphological determination and natural selection. It is applied to design the co-ordination index that is used to characterize pesticide retentions. The parameters used to calculate the co-ordination index are the molar formation enthalpy, molecular weight and surface area. The morphological and co-ordination indices barely improve the correlations. The fractal dimension averaged for non‑buried atoms, partition coefficient, etc. distinguishes the pesticide molecular structures. The structural and constituent classification is based on nonplanarity, and the number of cycles, and O, S, N and Cl atoms. Different behavior depends on the number of cycles.

The computation of reliability characteristics of a system that consists of dependent components sometimes becomes difficult, especially when a specific type of dependence is not identified. In this paper, some systems with arbitrary dependent components are studied using copula. In the system, the components are dependent on each other and the dependent relations may be either linear or nonlinear correlation. The efficient formulas are presented to compute the reliability characteristics, such as reliability function, failure rate and meantime to failure of series, parallel and k-out-of-n systems. The reliability functions of dependant systems are compared with independent system. At last, the numerical examples are presented to illustrate the results obtained in this paper.

Supply chain management has received considerable attention in the literature and it is meaningful and important to be able to measure the reliability of supply chains. In the article, the suppliers in the supply chain systems are not independent of each other and the dependency relation may be either linear or nonlinear correlation. From the view of the distribution service process, a copula-based method is proposed for analyzing the reliability of supply chains. In this article, by introducing the model of k-out-of-n: G system into the studies of supply chains, an evaluation method is suggested and the reliability indexes are obtained. Finally, a numerical example is presented to illustrate the results obtained in this article.

A set of novel correlation tests using omni-directional cross-correlation functions (ODCCFs), which are based on the first order cross-correlation functions (CCF), are proposed in the present study to comprehensively detect nonlinear relationships between variables. Then the ODCCFs are combined into a set of concise formulations to provide better illustration of detected correlations and reduce the number of correlation plots. Compared to the other approaches, the new methodology brings much more power in detection of nonlinear correlations. The efficiency and effectiveness of the new algorithm are demonstrated through simulation studies and comparisons with other linear and nonlinear correlation tests. The results can be widely applied in many relevant fields.

The objectives of this research were to identify the surface chemical features of activated carbons made of peat, bituminous coal and coconut shell, as well as examine the specific relationship of these properties by using statistical analyses. The results showed that the peat carbons contained much more amounts of Ca, S, P and Mg; however, the bituminous carbons possessed higher contents of Si, Al and Fe. In addition, the content ratios of Al to Si exhibited the Al enrichment phenomenon occurred after the heat treatment. A nonlinear correlation between the pH value and the difference in the amounts of basic and acidic groups was developed. Unfortunately, there were no specific mass ratios found among the acidic functional groups. Summary Studies which have previously examined the relationship between ego and moral development have found substantial correlations. However, they have used both child and adult Ss, thereby focusing on maturational aspects of development. Also, they have employed linear parametric correlations, which may have been inappropriate for the scaling level of the data. The present study employed only adult Ss, and a nonlinear, nonparametric measure of correlation was developed to examine the relationship between ego and moral development scores. Nonparametric analysis of the variance revealed a significant relationship between scores on the two measures and yielded a moderately high nonlinear correlation coefficient (η2 = .42).

SummaryTotal P monitor data were analysed by mathematical spectral analysis in order to obtain more information on the transient behaviour of P time series at different depths and the correlations between these adjacent sampling points. It was observed, that the monitor data prove annual oscillations as well as strong oscillations of shorter periods. There is a linear correlation between the various monitor depths during the annual cycle. The shorter cycles correlate differently. There was further evidence for the assumption, that there is a nonlinear correlation between soluble and particulate P in the same depths, both for epilimnic and hypolimnic water.

Different methods for calculating the renal clearance of 131I-hippuric acid with the single injection technique are evaluated. A previous procedure assumed a two-compartment model for the distribution of 131I-hippuric acid, and the renal clearance was determined from the externally measured blood curve and two blood samples. The authors have simplified this system by using a single-compartment approximation for the distribution of 131I-hippuric acid. The values calculated from the single-compartment model were shown to be too high. However, a nonlinear correlation was shown to exist between these values and the values obtained with the two-compartment model, and the clearance may be calculated from a correlation curve or a formula. The one blood sample procedure has been used in conjunction with isotope renography.
